I learned today that I do qualify for new knees now. I was shown my knee xrays by both the P.A. and the doctor and told they are osteo arthritic moderate to severe category 😒
Funny thing is, over the weekend I was at a farmers market & the topic of knee replacements came up and the guy selling strawberries said "hey, look!" and he jumped up then squatted, stood up and said "no pain!" I teared up 🥹 The thought of no knee pain is just so emotional for me. It would be so wonderful- gives me a bit of hope that I could get robo-knees and not have so much pain, maybe?

Im 7 weeks post partial knee replacement. Honestly this journey has been more mentally taxing than i ever expected. This was my third knee surgery so physically and mentally (my ocd is MAD) i knew what to expect. What i never expected was the sense of doom and rawness i feel about it. Its the finality of it, there is no more false hope of it “getting better”, this is it for my knee, half of it is gone, eventually all of it will be. The surgery worked, dont get me wrong, my knee feels the best its felt in like 10 years. But boy shes messy, and my patellafemoral joint is also now down to bone, and my ACL graft is stretched AND BRO Im 34 in 6 days, like this is my knee for a looonngg time.

Anyone got tips on fixing pain in ankles and knees? I pace as a stim but I may have arthritis and over time it's become painful if I do it for more than 20 minutes (used to be able to go for up to 3 hours before I got bored). Can't invest in a mobility aid because that shits expensive. So if anyone has like.. stretches or whatever that can help with mobility/pain they're greatly appreciated.
If it helps, I've been doing a little research on the different types and if it turns out to be arthritis it's most likely osteoarthritis from what I've read, and it's what my mom has so I'm at higher risk (sucks but apparently Genetics play a role)

hi hello i have recently diagnosed osteoarthritis & I'm about to have meniscus repair surgery & have been told to 'expect a knee replacement inside of ten years'
how do you manage the social expectations tied up with it? so many people have told me I'm too young for surgery and should get a second opinion. how do you convince people that surgery is necessary and vital, even at a young age? how do you convince yourself?
Oh my gosh I have no idea how long this has been in my inbox; I'm so sorry!
Osteoarthritis sucks. The social bias against young people having an invisible but crippling illness is a lot to deal with. Usually when people say "you're too young!" in a pitying way I respond with something like, "haha tell that to my bones!"
If it's a doctor saying so, I asked what tests I needed done and what my alternative route of treatment would be. It ended up being replacements after all.
But it sounds like you're most often getting genuine disbelief that you would need a replacement. I would tell them all the alternate routes I took, and show them proof of how much better a replacement will be for you. You could always get a second opinion if you want. I genuinely had photos of my x-rays on my phone to show people at one point.
Once it was officially scheduled, I had several pre-op appointments that were extensive Q&A sessions between myself and several different surgeons and orthopedists asking, "Are you sure? Are you SURE?" and talking about every single step of the process. That definitely helped with the self-conviction and assuring others that everyone was on the same page.
That being said, convincing myself wasn't too hard because I was in and out of a wheelchair by the time I got my knee replacements lined up. I knew I had to go through with it after exhausting all other paths. And I was right. And it was worth it.
Best of luck with everything. I'm sorry you have to go through this, but you'll come out the other side!

can anyone with arthritis recommend any mobility aids that would help low to moderate joint pain when exerted (mainly hips and knees that hurt at like a 5 when walking, possibly some quality knee sleeves for more strenuous exercise) alternatively some remedies for my less commonly pained joints (wrists and elbows at a 6 when they bear the weight of my body or head). tdy my doctor said a rheumatoid panel probably wouldn't bring back anything bcs i have little swelling/stiffness and said nothing about osteo (even tho i was born with hip displaysia....have done high impact on my joints sports since i was 8....and until recently had a full time job where i had to stand the whole time...) so my doctor was unhelpful
#arthritis#joint pain#tagging both rheumatoid and osteo for advice :>#rheumatoid arthritis#osteoarthritis#chronic illness#additionally i have issues with tachycardia and will get results for a thyroid panel i took today#and i most likely have low iron and some form of anemia#the doctor floated some sort of hypermobility shit but only my back has ever been hypermobile and she was like yeah no its normal#one of my knees hyperextends and the other doesnt#and my joints pop on their own a lot#so#that was unhelpful
