thank you for asking minty bc this is something I was born to answer. there are still a couple of "oscary" movies that are still on my list to see but that won't stop me from giving my oscar opinions! and here they are in lovely bulleted format:

when getting upset about the oscars, it's always important to remember: it's very rare that they truly reward the best movies of the year. for every parasite year there's a million green book/bohemian rhapsody years. but also I think this year's noms are basically fine with a couple of minor exceptions and that in itself is a win.

why does the academy hate todd haynes? it's like they go out of their way not to recognize him. justice for may december and even more justice for charles melton!!! he was sending ppl his mom's kimchi as part of his campaign 😭 (but congrats to sterling k brown on slipping in. wouldn't trade that but would def kick out ryan gosling for charles melton in a heartbeat. I think he's the weakest link honestly)

I already gave my barbie thoughts but I actually think it got overrewarded in some places at the expense of margot robbie in actress. like what is america ferrera doing there? lol they could easily have swapped in like 5 better options.

as for the killers of the flower moon of it all: lily gladstone better win. swap out bradley cooper for leo (why was the academy so hard for maestro lol). sucks it missed out on screenplay but it's a competitive year!

I wish the academy had the balls to nominate an animated movie for best picture bc it would have been nice for boy and the heron to make the cut. so annoying it went overlooked in score!

even if they were never gonna go for him, zac efron deserved to at least be in the conversation for best actor!

congrats to academy award nominated film: godzilla minus one!!! 🎉 the budget was so low but it looked so amazing! a well-deserved nomination!
