instead of being a funny situation that you'll be telling your friends about for years to come, nicotine-induced impotence!higuruma is one big downer unfortunately. his smoking is definitely tied to the stress of his job and how burnt out he feels by it and the system, all of which bleeds into his personal life and it's hard to know if he can't get it up bc of the smoking or bc of his depression (or some larger medical condition that he's too unmotivated to see a doctor about).

he's tried to give up smoking, but all it takes is one long 14-hour day (of which there are many) to have him crawling into bed beside you in the early hours of the morning smelling like stale cigarettes. you don't ever press him about it, knowing that ultimately the decision to quit needs to be his and his alone.

but no matter how much you assure him that you understand how hard it is to give up an addiction, he can't help but let the cynicism that's begun to fester inside of him lash out.

"you want me to quit, don't you?" he asks unprompted over dinner. it's the first night in a while that he's been off work early enough that you can actually share dinner together and you suggested going out to the restaurant around the corner -- one that has an ashtray at every table.

"yes, I wish you would quit," you answer, glancing at the cigarette perched between his index and middle fingers. "but I wish for a lot of things that are out of my control. I wish it would stop raining so much. I wish we could win the lottery. you'll quit when you're ready and I'll be there to help you."

the sincerity in your eyes is too much for him and he takes a long drag from his cigarette. your sincerity is wasted on a world as corrupt and unjust as this one.

it's wasted on a man like him.

"really? you don't miss getting fucked?" he continues, unable to quell the urge to keep pushing you.

"hiromi!" you snap, looking around to make sure that no one heard him. thankfully the restaurant is busy enough that no one is paying you any attention.

"are you embarrassed that your partner can't get it up? you keep saying it doesn't bother you." in fact, you've said it on many occasions, but always in soft reassurances whispered into his ear as you hold him close from behind. you've never said it with as much derision as he says it now.

"I'm embarrassed about discussing our sex life in public," you hiss angrily. you then close your eyes and take a deep breath, paying no mind to higuruma's secondhand smoke that fills the space between you.

when you meet his gaze again, he can see the slight sheen to your eyes. it seems like he's finally pushed you far enough.

"I can't keep having this same fight over and over again, hiromi," you tell him, your shoulders sagging under the weight of your resignation. "I tell you that I don't mind the long hours or the smoking or the intimacy issues or this self-destructive spiral that you're in and you continue to doubt me at every turn."

you pause to let out a heavy sigh, and when you next speak, your voice breaks.

"I love you. why can't you just let me?"

it's a question he doesn't know the answer to. it's one that he refuses to have the answer to.

all he can do is bring his cigarette to his lips and take another long inhale.

I feel like I've hallucinated a fanfic. It was a giyuushino one, modern-au. Kanae and Shinobu owned a clinic for kids. Giyuu was the estranged son of a rich, crime family. Giyuushino had kids together, and they were slowly getting back together. I can't even remember what website it was on lol. If you have any idea what it is, I'd appreciate it!

Hi, it's not hate, it is constructive criticism. Your OCs lack nuance and complexity. They have hardly any flaws. They are like paper cut outs. They just exist as fix its to the plot. They have inner knowledge of the supernatural nobody else does, they punch people who deserve it, they are brave when everyone else isn't, they stand up for others etc. This sounds wonderful at first but when you mix them with other characters who are flawed and realistic, who make mistakes and are scared, your character just becomes annoying because they don't have depth. They look like pick me Mary Sues. Yes, make them have visions, be kind, brave etc but make them make mistakes and show fear sometimes. It's about balance. Having them apologise for being briefly mean to another character is not character development if they just go back to being the Joan of Arc of From. All your OCs follow the same pattern of being perfect and special, the Chosen Ones. It's boring and you refuse to make them better.

Bug doesn't have any visions. They see ghosts, that's it. They've had since they were a kid.

They're not scared as a result of pissing themselves the first night they got in Fromville, hiding in a hole while their friends, who tried to kill them in a ritual, scream in agony at night. It's a trauma response - they do stupid shit, and they almost die not once or twice, because their brain gets all muddled (you'd know that if you actually read the pieces I've written for them, and if you were in the server, which I'm pretty sure you're not).

And yeah, Ben is a Mary Sue, for all I care. He's a great guy, kind, helpful, and very dumb. Fuck me for having fun and creating some silly dude, right? Even though he has no special powers or anything, huh.

I plan on having some kind of established relationship there. Maybe she is Mary’s old teacher, or she used to be friends with Franks sister/childhood best friends, etc. just because I cannnot leave the established relationship trope alone lol I love it sm!

Frank will definitely be teaching philosophy again!

Frank will definitely also be a tortured soul. I’m thinking that it may still have to do with the throes of raising Mary, maybe as Mary grows up to be Diane’s age around when she passed— or some sense of Mary’s development causing friction btwn Reader and Frank (just not too sure yet)!

Franks mom will also have something to say about it.

Overall though, it’s a story about reader and Frank, reader who has gone through her own sense of trauma— and how these two people learn to love again or be vulnerable with other people again!

Not so rigid or logical, but genuinely emotional and connecting with each other.

That’s all I have so far but I’m thinking I need something else to pizazz or thicken the plot!! I’d love to talk more about it if you have anything in particular that you would love to read about these two :)

I got so emotional listening to Sam gush about Sonnett. Said she thinks Sonnett is often misunderstood, and people don't know or realize how much she's scrapped and fought for every roster she's made and every minute she's played, and how even when she doesn't play (which up until recently was often) she sets a good example to the younger players on how to be a perfect teammate. She's willing to do anything for the team and gives it her all no matter what. She's such a special player and person.

sam talking about any of her friends will GET ME. they went through the trenches together, and i wish sam was there to enjoy the same success our girls are now.

one thing i also want to highlight is what emma said when tierna came back for the olympic semi's. sonnett had been doing well, but tierna was going to start. (i don't remember the exact quote but they discussed it on the broadcast) emma said that sonnett basically told her she'd do whatever would help the team and was just ready and there and so helpful to the team even when she wasn't on the field.

she's one of one, and we are so lucky to see her shine.

omg okay, i think it's an all-day extravaganza. ian will be makin treats for his husband all day long babeeyyyy!
