been experimenting with fl studio for the past couple days, this ended up being my first completely original composition... gave me the vibes of a point-and-click adventure game from the early/mid-2000s made for tween girls.

since i left you by the avalanches is such an album for everyone to listen to. like, if you’re only familiar with plunderphonics through the most memetic of mashups, or not even that much, you should really listen to this to get a great idea of just what can be done with sampling, the value of old samples, the skill involved in good plunderphonics/turntabilism. for people who are more in the mashup scene, listened to the mouth albums or follow some tourneys, this album is still really good to listen to because of its more experimental/house sound, like in live at dominoes, electricity, and stay another season. and some of the tracks are just plain good times- i have to mention the funky turntabilism of frontier psychiatrist & radio. if you don’t have in you a big love for Music with a capital m, maybe this is the album that’ll do it for you; if you already do, listen to something thoroughly unique to maybe awaken something more in you

The music instrument samples used by Koji Kondo when he composed the Super Mario World soundtrack were all taken from commercially available sources, and simply reduced in quality to be playable on a SNES.
After many years of searching, video game music enthusiasts were able to track down all original samples in their source quality, allowing the tracks to be restored to the form they could have had if the SNES were able to use high-quality samples. In this post, the restored version of the Castle/Fortress music can be heard.

Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank 1998
"The Rockafeller Skank" is a song by English big beat musician and DJ Fatboy Slim. It was released as the lead single from his second studio album, You've Come a Long Way, Baby, on 8 June 1998. The single peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart and topped the Icelandic Singles Chart.
The song features the repeated line "Right about now, the funk soul brother / Check it out now, the funk soul brother", which is a truncated vocal sample of rapper Lord Finesse on the track "Vinyl Dogs Vibe" by Vinyl Dogs. The original line, a spoken-word introduction to the instrumental track, was "Check it out right about now, it's no other than the funk soul brother, the Lord Finesse. And you're welcome to the world of the Vinyl Dogs right about now".
The song also features eight other samples, including a sample of the song "Sliced Tomatoes" by the band Just Brothers, The Bobby Fuller Four's "I Fought the Law" (featuring DeWayne Quirico's drum intro), "Join the Gang" by David Bowie, "Who You Wit II" by Jay-Z (pitched down vocals saying "Rockafeller"), and a sample of "Beat Girl" by John Barry and his Orchestra. Guitar lines were also sampled from "Twistin' 'N' Twangin'" by Duane Eddy and "Why Can't You Love Me" by Brian Poole & The Tremeloes, along with a shout from the song "Soup" by the J.J. All-Stars. Fatboy Slim has stated that to clear the samples and release the song he had to release 100% of the track's royalties, 25% to each artist, meaning he receives no royalties himself.
There was a total of 71,5% funk soul brothers. Previous Fatboy Slim polls: #12 "Weapon of Choice", #237 "Praise You".

Moon and Pebbles!! Yippee
oh the woes of being a flesh creature surrounded by supercomputer gods,, I got sad drawing him hhh
more about them under the line :>
Moon! She, like Suns, was one of the first successful projects and were both more of test models/therapeutic companions than anything else. They were both restructured to fit their new functions but Suns has obviously undergone more significant changes... Moon is kept inside to assist with research and computational stuff. She's a lab cat. She's generally looks more like a normal creature, and has a friendly appearance because her creators (i guess it would be the ancients) would be seeing her frequently and would rather a friendly face, something that is easily perceived as nonthreatening, as opposed to Suns weaponry and NSH's extra limbs and spikes. She doesn't have the screen face like NSH, so expressing emotions comes mostly from body language. Moon is not outside at all so there is no need for solar panel components like Suns or NSH. She has internal stored power that can last for quite a while but still needs to be recharged? I imagine the neuron fly drones would also assist in that department. The drones still function somewhat like her portable processing servers/braincells. She has also programed a defensive protocol into them, they can create small bits of electricity to use in dire moments. Initially programmed to keep track of NSH's samples that sometimes escapes him.
Pebbles is a purposed organism. He is a whole entire organic cat. He was born in the lab, in a chaotic time when resources were low. He has a mark of communication. He also has a brain chip where he can access (basically) the cloud where the others upload information. He is also a lab cat so this is crucial to his role. He did try and remove it once when he was younger and it backfired horribly and now he has a mechanical ear and eye. He still feels out of place for obvious reasons, being the only creature of organic origin amongst his peers.
He is closest to Moon who had a role in caring for and raising him. She did not know a thing about caring for a living being but did her best. Pebbles does not like being confined to the facility. The suggestion and influence the brain chip has on him sometimes clashes with his thoughts. He is very aware of the limitations it puts on him to not leave. He envies NSH and Suns a lot for being able to do what he can't. He often downloads the maps they create and read NSH's sample studies in his spare time. He also likes seeing the lizards NSH brings back, from a distance.
I think in the time that Pebbles exists, NSH is not very active. Due to the low resources and chaotic season, NSH is often in low power mode. Which means less expeditions outside and more time just, half asleep. And when the weather becomes more sustainable, NSH would be sent on long outings to gather as much as possible before being powered down again. So instead of hearing stories from NSH, he sought out Suns and UI instead. (Actually I think everyone is kind of low power mode here, Suns does not wander as far).
erhm i think he tries to leave the place and then gets sick or something,,,im still thinking..

"[...]Trying to replace those songs feels like breaking into somebody's house and pasting your face into their family photo album. But, Mortis asked me if I was interested, and, given that his game really inspired me, and he's a super nice guy... I decided I would try my best to help. To ensure that new players, even if they didn't get the exact same experience, would get a pretty cool one. I ended up handling a lot of boss tracks. I attempted to match the game's "style" by aiming for idiosyncrasy and atmosphere over everything else. I think the results are pretty cool. I also was assigned... the normal battle theme. I'm gonna be honest, just feels like I got assigned to take a bullet in the back for everybody else. I looked up almost every jazz song from the 1920s, I commissioned Carlos to make an entire fake jazz song for me so I could cut it up into samples, I tried making like 6 entirely different songs, but nothing I could come up with on my own felt quite right. In the end, I summoned Camellia to help me out by re-remixing my first track into multiple versions, and so ultimately I think it will feel pretty cool as you go through the game. (But, I'll be the first to say that I can't replace your memories...) By the way, I did the music for free, and I'll upload my tracks for free after the game comes out. Personally, I don't think the original music is replaceable, so I want to treat what I made like "fanmusic", made just out of love and respect for the original." -Toby Fox

apparently "I'm in the house like carpet" wasn't originally written for persona, it was actually a sample from a german royalty-free stock sound library that also includes vocal samples. to quote genius.com
The song’s lyrics are lifted from the track “Swiny House” by the German sample CD company Masterbits. Masterbits provides musical and vocal samples and is heavily used by Japanese video game soundtracks
this has led me to a startling discovery

According to official artwork, quirrel and hornet have black eyes, vessels have sunken eyes (potentially empty eyeholes) and the king has a third, more fucked up thing going on
A friend had already made an image like this some years ago, but I wanted to make my own version with more examples
From top to bottom:
- Pure Vessel in the Gods and Glory trailer, Hornet in one of silksong posters and the knight in one of godmaster posters
- The Hollow Knight, Quirrel and Hornet in the Quirrel prequel comic
- Pure Vessel, Quirrel, Hornet and the knight from the collector's edition card set
- my summary diagram depicting the three different types of eye, the Pale King as depicted in the Pale Court track poster (the official track from Gods and Nightmares soundtrack, not to confuse with the mod "pale court" (fanmade dlc)), Hornet in the cover for silksong soundtrack samples and the knight as depicted in the cover for the original game's soundtrack
