The origin of the SARS-COV-2 virus has been widely debated, but most scientific evidence suggests that it likely originated from natural transmission, possibly from a seafood market in Wuhan, China.
While some theories propose a laboratory leak, there's currently no conclusive evidence to support this claim.
Here's an opinion why #
COVID-19 was likely caused by a lab accident by Dr. Alina Chan, a molecular biologist at the Broad Institute of M.I.T. and Harvard, published in the New York Times, June 3, 2024.

I have had more free time than I’m used to lately, so I drew this slightly silly stream of consciousness comic about how changes in taste and smell as after effects of getting COVID in 2021 have impacted me. Mostly it’s a love letter to food. It was also an attempt from me to try to make a comic without planning it for 5 years and see where the mood takes me, so naturally there are a lot of detailed food illustrations (they’re the best).

What to do with 10 trillion dollars
I spent way too much time actually answering a reddit question of "How would you spend 10 trillion dollars if you needed to in 20 years. You will die after 20 years." So, I figured I'd share it here.
With only $10 trillion dollars you can't stabilize greenhouse gases or get rid of fossil fuels, which are 13t and 44t respectively. I'm using a variety of sources, so don't expect citations.
I did slightly overpay for things, strategically, partially because I can only imagine doing the things I would do would make it more expensive than it would otherwise be. You'll see.
I'm presuming I don't get assassinated.
What you can do (I did the math) figures are in Billions:
Personal (2.44/10000):
1.44 on remaking 8 games as mid-line AAA games (I chose Legend of Dragoon, FF8, Witcher 1, and the Legacy of Kain series).
.214 on 50 years of housing and buying yourself a $130,000,000 home in NYC. Includes taxes, maintenance, and furniture.
.15 on household staff for 50 years, with at double the normal pay
.000327 to put 3 kids through the best pre-k and best college in the country
.664 setting up each of those 3 kids with their own equivalent home and staff setup
Public Service (4303/10000):
Big one out of the way. 2500bn in lobbying/buying up American politicians to enact structural reforms I want to see. You would think this would be way too much, since the presidential election in 2020 only had 14.4 in it. This amounts to averaging 250 in spending every election cycle, even off-year. I counter with the global commercial banking market having a market cap of 2800 in 2023. The defense industry is almost 480. Health insurance in the US is 1600. This is an expensive, long-drawn fight. This is likely the single most important thing on the list. Anti-corruption measures, labor rights, pro-democracy reforms, including ultimately making it illegal for other people to buy more elections.
a cumulative total of 1803 spent on:
curing the most common cause of blindness worldwide
eradicating polio, rabies, elephantitis, malaria, world hunger, COVID19 issues, Water + Sanitation access, extreme poverty, homelessness in USA, Canada, and UK (I looked for China, Indonesia, Nigeria, Egypt, and Pakistan but couldn't find real numbers),
protecting the Amazon rainforest
Corporate Fixing (5692/10000):
Buying up and changing (converting to Co-Ops, converting to non-profits, dissolving, or something in line with those:
Meta
Amazon
Disney
JP Morgan Chase
Lockheed Martin
Delta
Alphabet
Asda
Tesco
Nike
The Weinstein Company
United Airlines
Shein
EA
BP
Bayer (side-note: they own/are Monsanto now)
De Beers
Vonovia Real Estate Developers
DLE
Ubisoft
Ikea
Shueisha
and Viz Media
It leaves me with 1.4bn left over. I'm comfortable with saying an additional billion would likely be used up administratively as things get a bit more expensive than I thought they would.
Honestly, I could likely blow it on close friends and family who need it. If you have an issue with the house spending being for 50 years instead of 30, that can just be shuffled around a bit to include more people in my personal life to meet the same number.
Leaving me with 470 million to spend elsewhere in the next 20 years. Expensive vacations, nice cars, donating to "smaller" issues as I see worthwhile, giving family and friends money for their ventures/dreams, etc. make me think it wouldn't actually be hard to lose track of that much money in those many years.
Hell, if I want to I can probably spend a million bucks on food a year just for my family. Probably more, if I actively try to do so.

#CovidPoetry
One fucking trip to the emergency vet Was avoiding going outside but I'd do it for my pet One December outing turned a whole life around You'll be fine, just a virus, just rest up and you'll be sound.
"You look so well though" but I can't climb stairs Been in pain my whole life but this tips past what I can bear Male doctors give me sideeye like I'm tryna misbehave Body flaring in reactions, can't eat anything I crave.
I think I had a brain once, can't remember where I put it Had confidence before but these experiences have shook it I'm not sure if I can meet you, not sure how long I can stay Dunno what energy I'll bring until it all gets snatched away
But we're four years beyond it, so it's over now, right? Tubes are rammed, buses jampacked, bars are full up every night Yes I'd love to come and see you, love to party, now you ask, But I still can't go outside cuz you won't WEAR A FUCKING MASK.

"Good Time"
So I was going through my old account (RIP) and I was delighted to see this comic after about 2 years. Ngl, sometimes I feel like I have changed so much from what I was yesterday, and other times I feel like I haven't one inch since the day I was born. This comic is a solid proof of this, keep in mind it was before I turned into a "philosophy-shitting-ass" and yet...that's exactly what I was 2 years ago!
The original post had the caption : " Sorry for a serious comic this time, but, in these dark times, i just wanted to remind everyone that: No matter how bad these times get, no matter how much cry, when you will be close to death, you will realize that your tears were worthless, You will realize that you could have spent more time with that one person before they died. So guys, I just wanted to say, don't cry, always face every problem you face with a smile, and do your best!!! "
Damn, this dude made his future self giggle 😭. Anyways, hope you like this! And keep your strength up even in dark times!

🦠 The Origin of the COVID-19 Pandemic
SARS-CoV-2 viruses circulate in the wild all over China. Viruses naturally jump species. It's part of the biological evolution.
Scientists released a pair of extensive studies Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market as the origin of the coronavirus pandemic, published in the New York Times on February 27, 2022.

Roflmao! Chinese liars never once thought anyone could find forensic evidence in covid19 and demand the original strain. Guess what, they don’t have to turn over!
There’s a place full of original strain-wuhan lab! And I bet that raccoon dogs didn’t even become a host organically. Wuhan lab did something artificially to achieve something else.

"6 out of 10 people who died from Covid between March and July 2020 were disabled"
As part of the UK covid inquiry, evidence has now been brought to light which shows that "Do Not Attempt Resuscitation" notices, were put on the files of patients with Down's Syndrome, Autism & other learning disabilities.
These people were healthy, before contracting Covid19.
The NHS watchdog we know as NICE, (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), issued guidance for trusts and hospitals advising them to apply a “clinical frailty scale” to decide whether patients should be admitted to intensive care.
Older and more frail patients were viewed as being less likely to survive even with critical care treatment.
The original NICE guidance also suggested that those who could not do everyday tasks like cooking, managing money and personal care independently, would be considered frail & not receive intensive care treatment.
This original guidance has since been removed....
Which leads us to the Do not attempt Resuscitation notices...
The DNAR notices were often placed on the files of the patients without their consent, or with limited understanding of its meaning.
Patients with learning disabilities were classed as 'clinically frail'
NHS England have of course denied this, yet the evidence shows they let them die, as to not overwhelm the NHS in the early days of a pandemic.
Yet many specialist nurses have come forward to say that they were constantly put in place for people with learning disabilities and often "inappropriately."
_____
I feel utterly sick. I remember at the start of the pandemic, talking about how disabled people will become a target, that we will be killed off, and people looked at me like I was purple.
4 years later we're here. In case you need to read it again, 6 in 10 people with covid that died during March to June 2020, were disabled. 6 in 10. I can't stop repeating that number.

or the pencil transfer !!! i just realized i kinda worded it weird but the pencil transfer method is also great. it’s suggested that you use a soft graphite pencil for the best results and also please don’t use a freshly sharpened pencil directly on the mask ! after sharpening, run it over a piece of paper a few times to dull the tip and prevent accidentally ripping any of the fabric of the mask :)
Does anyone make any actually good masks with patterns and graphics on them? I know its in vogue now to dump on the pictures or whatever but it really did make it easier for me to remember and keep my own momentum up.Still staying safe, just wish my mask could be cute :(
Nadi’s note: I’m so mad that I can’t find them now, but I saw some reccs on twitter today as well as someone fit/efficacy testing masks after drawing on them with pencils and markers. Their tests saw no significant change in protection.

Free Masks
People in Maine were very cool about masks. I saw plenty of places distributing free ones. I saw masks only establishments handing then out to people who had forgotten theirs.
