I just want to say- this is insane. Videogames have been a huge part of my life, and they're how my family bond. If we have a weekend, we'll speedrun chores, and then binge games like Bendy and the Ink Machine, or we'll take turns playing Hollow Knight. Unit's crap is going to kill that.

Not everyone can afford to PAY FOR EVERY PERSON TO INSTALL THEIR GAME, so those indie games I love so much are going to struggle. And we all KNOW there's going to be someone who uninstalls and reinstalls the game over and over. They're bleeding money from people who barely get any. From people who have to juggle jobs and daily life, and their passion projects.

And you know what, I'm done. I've spent years trying to learn unity and working to make someone cool I can share, but if this is how it's going to be, I'm taking my projects elsewhere. I'm uninstalling the game maker today. Maybe I'll take the advice I've been given, and make my own game engine, so I don't have to deal with this again.

Unless you only play tRIpLE A titles this will most likely affect a game you like. Hell, it can even affect really big games like Pokemon Go.

For a long time, starting years and years back, a lot of people have been talking about the preservation of games and being against moving to digital only games for reasons like this, and how the greed of various big companies in the game industry will negatively impact access to games and their preservation. It's happening. This will impact games that are already out. This will impact games being made. This will impact games made in the future. So if you care even a teensy tiny bit about a single game made in unity, or you care about the future of game development period, I suggest you pay very close attention.

Folks talking about Game Devs dropping Unity or how it won't hurt small indie devs with under 200,000. Are missing the point.

Some of these Unity games can't change to another engine because they have years of code piled on top of each other at this point. aka POKEMON GO. They'd basically have to rebuild the game from scratch.

Not to mention Unity is mostly used by phone app games or Indie's that are lucky enough to get picked up by console. Indie games on Mobile easily pass 200,000 downloads. Temple Run 1 and 2 are in Unity, Crossy Road, Angry birds 1 and 2, and Hearthstone. All of these past 200,000 downloads years ago but aren't bringing in money now except hearthstone.

The Developers will do what happened to the first Angry birds app. They'll take it down, build it in a new engine for "HD", and add a shit ton of micro transactions. We are about to lose countless original versions of the OG pre lootbox mobile games.

We are also about to lose some of the biggest Indie games of the last decade. Among Us, Plague Inc., 7 Days to die, the original Slenderman game and it's sequel, I am Bread, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dream Daddy, Overcooked 1 & 2, Pathfinder online, Cup Head, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Oxygen Not Included, Bloons Tower Defense 6, Beat Saber, Subnautica, The Stanley Parable, Untitled Goose Game, Power Washing Simulator, Fall Guys, Inscryption, Phasmophobia

And the big one FUCKING HOLLOW KNIGHT. Silk song has already been pushed back out of this year specifically because it's being made by a team of like 3 people. It is so close to being finished and now they are being told they have to start over from scratch basically. Hollow Knight got over 200,000 downloads from being on playstation and was eventually put on Playstations subscription service. Every cent they made from hollow knight has gone back into making silk song. Which might now be delayed by multiple years and oh they are going to have to use some of that funds to pay unity now. Or find a way to get out of a contract with playstation. Because folks will keep downloading Hollow Knight for free and Unity will send the Hollow Knight team the bill.

oh and there's one more teeny tiny game made in Unity that you guys might not want to suddenly disappear. One with almost 3 years of monthly code updates, one with 139 million downloads to date, and 4.8 million monthly users.

Genshin. Guys Genshin Impact is made completely in Unity and that's not a game that can have it's code just copy and pasted to another engine.

Since we're on the topic, how would she react meeting GENO?? a version of Sans, yet also not sans yet also in terrible pain?? I think she'd try and heal him, which wouldn't really...work. not entirely. It'd probably put his HP back up (I read aftertale so I get the jist of his situation), but not be able to......save him. He still can't leave.

Most likely she'd meet him through reaper, too, so. TEA PARTIES IN THE VOID YIPPEEEE ahem. But i digress.

i can wait for the day some poor sap breaks her bubbly exterior and gets freaking REKKED from how pissed she'd get. But who would it be? Shes compassionate---maybe it's not a specific person and more a situation, then. Even goddesses can get overstimulated, overwhelmed. But whenever it is, I'll be happy to see her let loose.

I only realised how many games I've played after writing the full list... list. Huh. I have a lot of reviews to write. There are still a lot of games not a part of the list that I just haven't played through yet, don't remember my play-through well enough, or haven't done a long enough play-through to warrant a review.

Honourable mention goes to Shadow of the Colossus, which I completed in a 16-hour playthrough in one sitting and never touched again because I was borrowing someone else's PS4. I don't remember enough to review it but that was the fastest I've speedran a game ever.

(To Chiaki) Your thoughts on the situation with Unity?

Honestly...Not only is it super unfair, but it concerns me. I'm not even a game designer, but with a lot of games I play being made in the Unity Engine, it really makes me worry about the future of gaming.

From an outside perspective, it's definitely problematic for the likes of indie developers or upstarting game designers...What they fail to realize is just how many titles have been using Unity for years now.

Genshin Impact, Pokemon, Fate, Among Us, Fall Guys, ReCore, Wasteland, Ori, Oddworld, Outer Wilds, Elder Scrolls, Gwent, Cult of the Lamb, Marvel Snap, Ultrakill, Dusk, Cuphead, Beat Saber, Rust, Subnautica, My Friend Pedro, Tunic, Classic DOOM, Hearthstone, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Dream Daddy, Life is Strange, Night in the Woods, Hiveswap, VR Chat, Stanley Parable...Too many to list.

Unity didn't shoot themselves in the foot. They dropped a Nuclear Bomb on their toe.

I have submissions for characters from: Fate/Grand Order, Final Fantasy IX*, Pokemon Go*, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse*, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Subnautica, Outer Wilds, Call of Duty: Mobile*, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and all of those games are on this list! Just signal boosting.

*I don’t know if Sephiroth or Emet-Selch are in IX, but it’s the same franchise. Same goes for Ingo, Penny, Pyrrha, and Simon/Ghost.

PSA: if you've ever wanted to play an indie game made with unity, download it before january 1st 2024 or risk losing your chance! (for a list of unity games, i found this. can't say if it's completely comprehensive but it's a start)

if you're a game dev or aspiring game dev, i would check out unreal engine. it's widely documented, pretty easy to jump into, and free until you make over $1 million and then they take 5% above that- so if you made $1,000,001, epic games takes 5 cents. epic is a big corporation so they could pull some bullshit but it's less likely. and they have protection from future bullshittery if you stay with the current or older versions. beyond that, there are a ton of other free game engines out there or engines that are on the cheaper side (game maker for ex, only requires payment on export and is the game engine used for undertale/deltarune). so if you can help it, don't waste your time on unity!

and above all: fuck unity. indie games are so important and don't deserve to be fucked over by corporate greed

I am not sure what creative processes were behind this redesign. Why would they give him Ori hooves?

I understood that the whole game had its overall design overhauled. It has become more realistic with slightly more muted coloured pallets, and it is a practical choice to redesign all the pre-existing characters, even if it has no in-universe reasons for the changes.

I really don’t like the head/horns redesign, because the whole franchise has Bendy’s head as a symbol. The first thing which clue the player that this horrible monster is supposed to be a little demon Bendy was because it has the recognizable head shape. Why would they change that, while his “small” form still retain the same head shape?

While I don’t dislike the legs, they still came out of nowhere. I have been experimenting with giving Bendy a cloven hoof foot (with the other foot chopped off) with human-liked knees to reference how a lot of old cartoon design anthropomorphic cows like so. So, this decision really caught me off-guard, and I don’t think it went well with his upper body.

I can see that old design is if small Bendy becomes more and more humanoid and monstrous, as he consumes more ink creatures (which is a long-time hypothesis which is confirmed in Dark Revival). It has a coherent design of a twisted, corrupted classic toon, while the new design is just taking “Ink Demon” word-by-word and create a character out of it.

Well, to say something nice about The new Ink demon, I do love the skeleton theme. The feeling of an ink covered skeleton which growled like something with water in its lungs is fascinating. The detailed teeth look great too.

My, I think, I am really going to put my comic on hold so can voice my opinion about this whole thing.
