Okay, but the fact that Gaheris is probably a misspelling of Gareth. The fact that. You're created from your brother's imprint and no matter what you do, you can never be separated. Legends grow up around you but in the end you’re just the same. You’re some kind of reflection forever, even when anyone else would say that you’re completely separate. You’ll even die the same.

Merlin traveling back in time to save Arthur AU but with a twist!!
Merlin makes it to the sidhes, bringing a barely breathing Arthur with him. As expected, they ask for a price and Merlin offers his life, ignoring Arthur's protests.
Sidhe1: You're inmortal you can't die
Sidhe2: And even if you could, killing you would mean killing magic itself, therefore killing the earth itself.
Merlin: (crying desperate) I don't care! Take what you need! My blood, my magic, anything! Just save him!
Sidhe1: (smiling evily) I might know just the thing.
They never tell him what are they going to take from him, but he agrees. The sidhes start the ritual, while Arthur just keeps pleading weakely
Merlin: (smiling) If I somehow don't come back-
Arthur: (crying) Stop! Merlin don't do this. Please!
Merlin: I just want you to know that I love you.
Before Arthur can answer the ritual ends and Merlin blacks out.
When he wakes up he is in his way to Camelot in his old clothes and 10 years younger. He soon discovers he's been brought back to the very first day he met Arthur. He's confused. Have the Sidhes taken from him years of his life as a price? It doesn't make sense to him, but he decides to take advantage of this to prevent some things from happening.
Time goes by and while, in general, all events are repeating, not everything is happening as he remembers. Some people arrive in his live early, like Lancelot or Gawain. And Arthur treats him better? Like he says thank you to him more often and listens to him more. Merlin thinks it’s weird, but brushes it off thinking it’s due to the changes he's been making that some things are not quite the same.
Then the day comes when he finally reveals his magic to Arthur. He cries and Arthur hugs him telling everything its okey. Nothing its going to happen to him. Shortly after however Arthur also has a confession.
Arthur: I already knew.
Merlin: What?! Since when?
Arthur: the very start.
Merlin: How? I've been careful! More careful than before!
Arthur: Because you told me before. Well, not really before, but in the future. It’s complicated.
Merlin: Wait... you are from the future too?!
They are both surprised. They thought they were alone in this and it turns out they never were. Merlin cries all over again, apologazing for everything, for failing him, for not being able to save him, but-
Arthur: You did.
Merlin: ... What?
Arthur: You did save me.
Merlin: No, the sidhes tricked me. They sent us back in time-
Arthur: It was not them who did that. It was me.
Merlin: What... what are you saying?
Turns out what the ritual really did was turn Merlin into a small tree in exchange for saving Arthur’s life. A magic tree that would grow taller and taller and never die and whose ruts would expand making magic florish in the earth forever. Arthur of course was really upset after that. He demanded the sidhes to turn Merlin back but they only told him "what's done it's done" and that all he could do was pick the tree up before the roots growed if he wanted to move it elsewhere.
Arthur put the tree in a pot and brought it back to Camelot. Everyone was devasted with the news but they were also glad their king was alive and safe. No one blamed him, but Arthur always blamed himself. He repealed the ban as soon as he could and made sure everyone knew Merlin's involvement in the battle and later the other things he find out Merlin did for Camelot through Gaius. He made an anual event and a statue in Merlin's honor. Camelot slowly but surely welcomed magic again and became the most prosperous kingdom in the land.
Merlin: Oh...I don't remember being a tree.
Arthur: Yeah, I figured.
Merlin: But you repealed the ban! That's great! Magic was free again in the-wait... so why did you do all this if everything was fine? And how did you do it?
Arthur: Everything was NOT fine Merlin. You weren't there!
Merlin: (utterly confused) I was. As a tree.
Arthur: You know what I mean! You were there but you weren't. We mourned you but you were still alive. I kept you in that pot for longer that I should have because I wanted to keep you close all the time, yet looking at you was so painful... Gwen had to scold me into finally plant you in the garden so you could grow properly. I was broken inside, while trying to rule a kingdom. I kingdom we should have ruled together from the start!
Merlin: ...
Merlin: You're telling me you somehow traveled us back in time and throw away the golden age, your dream of uniting all Albion and all you worked hard for... just because you missed me?
Arthur: And because I couldn't say it back.
Merlin: What?
Arthur: That I love you too.

I'm honestly kinda disgusted by the way a lot of authors just seeped their misogyny onto Guinevere to make her so horrible, lol. effectively destroyed a lot of people's view of her and she gets blamed for everything?? people keep shitting on her, saying Lancelot should be shipped with "someone better" and I'm just really annoyed because.. Guinevere is horribly characterized by these weirdos authors 💀. It does not take much to portray her as a complex character while also not making her shitty on purpose because you don't like her for her affair, lol.
I love her so much and it's disappointing how she's been treated :(( which is why I'll never be able to hate Guinevere or her ship with Lancelot
My friend it’s honestly so exhausting at this point. It’s not even limited to writing Guinevere herself as insufferable, but writing other characters behaving worse toward her than they ever were in medlit. Arthur hitting and degrading her when he cheats on her? (Warrior of the West by M. K. Hume) Lancelot using her for political gain and never loving her at all? (Enemy of God by Bernard Cornwell) Owain blocking her passage as she flees danger? (Legend in Autumn by Persia Woolley) Agravaine threatening to rape her? (The Road to Avalon by Joan Wolf) Gawain threatening to rape her? (Guinevere by Lavinia Collins) WHO are these characters bro you got me fucked up!!! The subtext here is that the authors hate Guinevere (read: women) so much they’re willing to warp everyone around her to treat her like garbage!!!
“Guinevere is bad because she has sex outside marriage.” Yeah so does Arthur. He fucked his own sister. In the dark. Leading her to believe he was her husband. So there’s Mordred, but there’s also Loholt and Arthur the Less etc. Arthur has many bastards from his extramarital affairs. (Vulgate and Post-Vulgate) Yet he isn’t canceled. Hm. Wonder what the difference could be? Let’s investigate. Seems authors treat Morgause and Morgan similarly to Guinevere. Gee, what is the common denominator here? Meanwhile in medlit, Morgause didn’t commit any crimes—she didn’t rape Arthur to have Mordred, she never neglected her children, she never cheated on Lot, and she didn’t prey on young men, she had ONE consistent lover who was younger than her AFTER her husband died. And she was murdered for it. (Post-Vulgate) Yet every other author writes her as a rapist (The Once and Future King by T. H. White), child grooming (The Wicked Day by Mary Stewart), pedophile (The Book of Gaheris by Kari Sperring), trying to put one of her sons on the throne (many examples). Now, Morgan is evil. But not for lewdness, for trying to murder people. In literally every source. Hello. It’s very simple. These authors are ridiculous. They care more about highlighting their opinion that fictional women having sex is BAD than writing a good story. When there are plenty of actually bad things happening in medlit they could condemn instead. You know, like the misogyny? Burning Guinevere at the stake??? You couldn’t make this up. It’s the utter disdain for the material for me. Assuming these dumbasses are even reading the material. Write something else where I can’t see it. (To be clear, I don’t even hate all the books I listed as examples, but they are unfortunately examples.)
Thankfully I haven’t encountered the blogger discourse regarding this. At least not lately. My advice to anyone who sees people shitting on something you like is to block them. Just do it. Fuck that noise. It’s not worth it.
Also I have to laugh at ship discourse about Guinevere/Lancelot. Of all pairs! It’s so unserious. They’re not some random comphet duo from the newest tumblr trending fandom. They’re mythological characters from a medieval literary tradition. Lancelot was created for her. In the 12th century. That was 900 years ago. It feels juvenile to reduce them to ship discourse. Especially because the story is fluid, it can be reshaped to fit the author’s narrative. So if Guinevere sucks, it’s because they made her that way. This is the epitome of making up a girl to be mad at.
“Oh but in Knight of the Cart—” Shh stop talking. If you’re pulling out KotC like some “gotcha” about Guinevere’s treatment of Lancelot, then you’re lost, buddy. You may be seeking entertainment in the wrong place! Guinevere and Lancelot aren’t real. Nobody was “abused” because they’re characters, narrative tools, to tell a story. Guinevere is flawed. Nobody ever said she wasn’t. If that’s too much complexity for you then I don’t know what else there is to say.
Honestly? Nobody is obligated to like Guinevere. I think it’s stupid to dislike her but the real take away is—if you dislike Guinevere so much, hate her even, why the are you writing so poorly about her? She’s as old a character as Arthur himself. Show some fucking respect or get out.
Anyway I’m going to end this with a recommendation! Today I started the third book of Sharan Newman’s Guinevere trilogy. The first two, Guinevere and The Chessboard Queen were utterly AWESOME!! Lots and lots of named women, like Guinevere’s mother Guenlain, Cador’s wife Sidna and daughter Lydia, Guinevere’s handmaiden Risa, and so on. The one downside is Morgause and Morgan are your typical modern retelling baddies, but overall it’s two thumbs up from me. Many points of view, but Guinevere is fascinating and complex and most importantly she is beloved!!!!!! Really hoping it stays enjoyable through to the end. Miss Newman is still in print, so I encourage everyone to seek these books out at your local library or from your favorite bookseller. Here’s a quote from book 2, The Chessboard Queen.

what are some arthuriana characters' ages? like arthur, kay or lancelot and guin.. maybe I'm stupid but I don't have a damn clue
In general, the stories never firmly put a number on when things happen and how old the characters are at any given story.
But thankfully, Lancelot-Grail/Vulgate Cycle do give us numbers to work with:
In nearly all traditions, Arthur was 15 years old when he pulls the Sword in the Stone during Christmas, just a month after Uther Pendragon dies.
Vulgate Merlin says Arthur was around 28 years old when he does battle with King Ryons, right after having just married Guinevere
Sometime later, Hector de Maris is concieved by King Bans. Afterwards, a war with the Romans and King Claudas breaks out. Lancelot, Bors and Lionel are born after this.
Lancelot joins Camelot and becomes a knight at age 15-18 years old (vulgate is a bit inconsistent with this). But nevertheless, Lancelot is meant to be atleast a generation younger than Arthur or Guinevere.
The first time Morgan imprisons Lancelot - the Val Sans Retour arc - Guinevere mentions it had seven years since he had been made a knight
Onwards, it gets murky as ages are never mentioned again until Mort Artu.
One eyebrow raising mention is that Mordred is introduced fairly late and is said to have been just recently knighted and his age is 20 years old. The kicker is that Mordred is much younger than Lancelot at this point. I hope you realize the general implications of this.
Fast Forwarding to Mort Artu, we do get solid mentions of ages here at last: During the war with Lancelot in the aftermath of the Affair debacle, Arthur is 92 years old while Gawain is 76 years old with Lancelot being stated to be 21 years younger than Gawain (55 years old).
Guinevere is stated to be ~50 years old at the start of Mort Artu. But given Arthur's stated age during the fight with Ryons and Lancelot's Birth being set after her marriage, her actual age may be much higher (anywhere in her 70s-80s)

So a 60 year reign + 15 years old when he pulled the sword in the stone = 75 years old grandpa. The next generation after Arthur (Mordred, Lancelot, Gawain* etc) would be 15-25 years younger than him.
So Lancelot and Arthur are different generations? How old are some of the other characters in comparison? Like Guinevere, Morgana, Morgause, Elaine of Corbenic, Galahad, etc.
Tumblr media
Yes, it usually gets ignored in modern reinterpretations (except for things like First Knight) but Lancelot is part of Mordred's generation (who was of course young enough to be Arthur's kid in many versions).
Arthur had been aligned with King Ban (Lancelot's father) for many years with them fighting off the the rebelling kings, Saxons & co, King Rience etc before Benoic fell and Lancelot gets yoinked as a baby by the Lady of the Lake (Ninianne in OKS).
I've got a detailed timeline for major events (reigns of rulers, famous battles & invasions, deaths of major players) but I haven't bothered to nail down the exact birth dates of the Camelot characters since that's not really something that's going to come up.
It's more important what generation they belong to than anything else.
Mordred - 15 years younger than Arthur born the same year that he pulled the Sword in the Stone (460 AD - yes, it's plot relevant)
Guinevere - She was betrothed to Arthur as a kid (to secure Leodegrance's troops against the Saxons/rebelling kings/all the clusterfucks at the start of Arthur's reign) so she straddles the line between Arthur & Lancelot's generations. 10-ish years younger than Arthur.
Morgana - She's a fae, so she's old as balls. There are stories where she had a kid with Julius Caesar (who lived 100 BC – 44 BC) to give you an idea how long she's been around.
Morgause - A couple years older than Arthur. Of all the kids of Gorlois & Igraine (Morgause, Elaine, Cador), she's the only one old enough to even remember her biological father. Would've been around 18-20-ish when she met 15-year old Arthur.
Elaine of Corbenic - About five years younger than Lancelot, so that'd be around 25-30 years younger than Arthur.
Galahad - Two generations removed from Arthur. He'd be 37-45 years younger... depending where I end up putting the conclusion of the Grail Quest (sometime between 500-510 AD).

friendly reminder that, per the Vulgate, the last wars with Lancelot and Rome and Mordred is fought among oLD OLD MEN, to be clear,
Thus did the people of Gaunes speak of the battle, marveling at the way Sir Gawain had held out so long against Lancelot, for they all knew that Lancelot was the best knight in the world and was some twenty-one years younger than Sir Gawain. At that time, Sir Gawain could well have been seventy-six years old, and King Arthur was ninety-two.
— The Death of Arthur, Chapter 20, Norris J. Lacy translation
like we’ve got fifty-something Lancelot who could plausibly at least be in his DILF era, up against AGED Gawain, with crypt-keeper Arthur who on the next couple of pages will throw himself into battle like a feral cat and kill the emperor of Rome. the mental images truly boggle the mind

Currently reading The Silmarillion, and I don't know enough about the fandom to know if this point has been made before, but I'm fascinated by how much Maedhros comes across as a darker version of Gawain.*
Like, the Chronic Older Brother Syndrome? The constantly trying to keep a handle on a crowd of younger brothers who range from stabby to downright evil? The parent with a raging hate-on for their half-brother? Turning around and swearing fealty and acknowledging the kingship of said half-uncle anyway because it's the right thing to do? Just the general constantly getting caught in the middle of family drama with a literal body count despite actively trying to be on good terms with everyone involved? The blood feuds? The oath of vengeance which was objectively a terrible move but it was motivated by family loyalty and it's too late to turn back now? The courtesy and diplomatic skills? Even the close relationship with his cousin that's a li'l bit Sailor Moon, arguably?
These are all extremely #Gawaincore things, and given Tolkien's love of Arthurian mythology I have to think it was either intentional, or at least a subconscious influence. Tolkien even started writing his own retelling of the downfall of Camelot (sadly unfinished), as well as doing his own translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which suggests to me that Gawain was a character he had particular interest in. (I haven't read Tolkien's Fall of Arthur, but I'd be really interested to check it out now and see how much these parallels are apparent in his Gawain portrayal.)
Anyway, I like to think if these two somehow met, they'd find a lot of common ground to commiserate/bond over that next to no one else would relate to. And I may or may not be tempted to write a fic where they do exactly that.
*Depending on the version of Gawain we're talking about, obviously, as some of his portrayals can be downright despicable. But I personally lean towards a Gawain that's more straightforwardly heroic than any of the Feanorians, though still flawed - and from Tolkien's own work with Arthuriana, it seems he did too.

Sibylla, Caled, Sue Pea aka Piko’s step mom and half-siblings and Gawain’s current wife and children. Here’s a bit about them.
Sibylla
Piko’s step mom and Gawain’s current wife.
She’s a noblewoman and a writer.
She does a lot of paperwork for royalty and writes for the local newspaper.
She is serious, a bit uptight, caring towards her family, and supportive.
She always talks to Gawain about how he’s doing since he tends to be stressed all the time due to being the head of the knights.
She also talks to Gawain about problems that may arise when she’s dealing with Piko because at times she feels it’s not her place as she’s not his birth mother.
She was the only person who Gawain dated that didn’t run in fear of Piko’s powers when Gawain would invite them over.
Caled
Piko’s younger half-brother.
He’s sorta sensitive and a little bit of a brat. His brattiness is more due to his noble upbringing rather than a more lax upbringing Piko had.
He tends to cry a lot when Piko deals with him since Piko teases him and tells him horror stories.
He really looks up to Piko, despite the teasing.
Sue Pea
Piko’s younger half-sister.
She is a wee Anisonian nymph.
She’s very cheerful and chill. She doesn’t cry much.
Since she’s just a toddler she just likes playing and being held.

(In truth, he's a little mix of both, but who is the dominant half... :3)
Before you guys pick, I base this on the essence of the character, not their story exactly.
Keep reading if you wanna hear the explanation & lore!
If not, feel free to vote!
How would the knights react if they were thrown into this universe...
Examples: Sir Falspar - (Sir Percival)
Sir Percival is known to be foolish & naive but overall the kindest knight in the nights of the roundtable. Being the heart of the roundtable...
So, how do I work this into the story...
During Sir Uther's cruel reign as leader of the GSA, Sir Falspar was named "The Fool" as punishment for his failure to protect the Fisher King. Why, you may ask because the Fisher King (in this story) was a d*ck! He was one of Uther's backers and was a corrupt king... long story short, he chose to save his men and the people of the kingdom rather than the Fisher King himself.
With Sir Nonsurat being his mentor...
Sir Nonsurat saw too much of his (younger self) in Falspar, and he tried to have him adopt a more serious attitude. He was never cruel to him (like Uther was to him) but tried to have him act a certain way... so he wouldn't get in trouble.
"Never ask to question your superiors" or "always do what you're are told"... that is how you survive here...
Despite that, Falspar's gentle heart, carefree attitude, and nature shined, which always made Sir Nonsurat constantly remind him to be professional. (Especially when Sir Uther was around...)
He always wanted to try to be friends with MK, but Nonsurat did not allow it due to Meta Knight's status as "the cursed star" and the fact that Arthur was his mentor. Nonsurat still held a bit of Arthur due to the past...
Meta Knight didn't want Falspar to get in trouble, so he avoided him... but never forgot his kindness. Years later, he's assigned an official position.... to guard and protect the planet of the Fisher King...
Who at the time had control of more than half of the trade routes in the galaxy. And a seat in the galactic council (head of treasury)... one of Sir Uther's backers at the time... He shared the same ideals as Sir Uther... he too, was an elitist scumbag.
The Fisher King presented himself as this kind ruler but, in reality, was two-faced... he'd smuggle and hoard goods for himself while other lesser planets would be on the brink of starvation. (He got away with it as long as he'd continued his support for the GSA.)
When Falspar witnessed all this... he didn't know what to think. "Were noble knights... aren't we supposed to serve the public?" Sir Nonsurat would remind him ", Don't question it... keep your head low, and you'll do fine,"...
Sir Nonsurat, even though a bit distant at times, truly cared for his student and wanted him to succeed. Not only that but since Falspar was knighted he was no longer under his care anymore...
Which meant if he slipped up... he'd be at Uther's mercy... and this man had none.
One day, Nightmare's demon came to attack the planet, and Falspar had to evacuate the whole planet. So... basically; what happened was that scene from "Attack on Titian," in The Battle of Trost.
youtube
Falspar chooses to protect his soldiers and the people first... but the Fisher King runs back for all his ill-gotten loot. He makes a dive back for his stuff but Nightmare's monsters decide to snatch it for themselves... the greedy king foolishly tries to protect it for himself and gets caught in the cross-fire.
While Falspar was able to save the Fisher King, he received a wound that left him impotent. (Reference to the Arthurian Legend)
After this, the Fisher King drops all his support for the GSA and is no longer backing Uther's endeavors... and made sure to blame Falspar. Needless to say, Sir Uther was livid when this happened... this man was out for blood!
After losing his strongest supporter, he publicly stripped him of his title as general, his unit, and branded him "The Fool." "THIS IS WHAT YOUR SOFT HEART GETS YOU!" then proceeds to burn his arm. Falspar looks to his mentor for help but does not step in to save him.
Sir Nonsurat could only look away in shame... and this hurt Falspar even more than his burning arm.
But someone does step in to aid him... It's none other than Meta Knight & Jecra. Basically, the boys hacked the place and caused a power outage... which caused Sir Uther to stop the burning.
He's distracted long enough for Sir Arthur to pull him off on Falaspar... Uther was about to reprimand Arthur for this, but the power outage was far more concerning that he had to leave it at that and storm out of there... in frustration.
Sir Arthur proceeds to heal and make sure Falspar is okay before following after Uther.
He knew that it was Meta Knight's doing (he'd done something like this before)... he had to make sure it couldn't be traced back to Team Halbred (MK's crew).
At this point, Sir Arthur & MK are still a little shaken up after the incident, but still have a deep care & bond. They were just a little awkward; they both never had an argument like that... which meant they never knew how to apologize to each other.
Arthur has been secretly looking after MK and his crew (covering up their tracks and aiding them when he could). And every time Meta Knight succeeded in a mission he made sure everyone knew he was Sir Arthur's pupil. (they still love each other very much)
Meta Knight & Jecra rushed over to make sure that Falspar was okay, and at that moment Falspar was able to put two and two together: they caused the power outage!
He has been grateful to MK & Jecra ever since.
Nonsurat tried to go over to Falspar as well but was turned away; Falspar had always tried so hard to receive love & praise from his mentor all this time but no longer wanted it.
In truth, Sir Nonsurat had the most sensitive heart out of all of them but was forced to lock away due to Uther's influence. Which is why he could never give Falspar the affection he always craved.
Ever since the Fisher King incident...their relationship has been rocky ever since.
I'm done planning out Falspar's part in the story... but Dragato's not just yet. Dame Morgan is Sir Dragato's mentor... I originally wanted to do Sir Dragato being under Sir Nonsurat but Dragato's perfectionism just jived so well with Morgan's character.
Morgan's relationship with Dragato is my favorite plot line in the story... can't wait to explore it! :3

👪 FAMILY - what is their family like?
Guinevere-
Her family is pretty small. Her mother died when she was young and she was an only child (as far as she knows. Jury’s still out on if I can sneak a False Guinevere reference in) so it’s just been her and her father for most of her life.
That has made them really close though and Guinevere adores her father and he’s always spoiled her and tries to give her the best of everything.
The one thing that did damage their relationship slight was that he agreed to the marraige without even telling Guinevere first which caused some issues between them for awhile.
Arthur-
He of course never knew his birth parents, Uther and Igraine, though Arthur isn’t too put out in not knowing Arthur.
He was adopted by Ector and his son Kay who he considers his real family. He loves his brother and father more than anything and immediately gave them high positions at court and at the Round Table once he was king.
Ector is a very kind and respectful guy, and while Kay is kind of a jerk, he’s deeply loyal and loving to his brother and friends, like Bedievere and Guinevere.
And he does wish he knew Igraine, and part of why he’s so forgiving of Morgan is that he wants to have a real familial relationship with one of his half-sisters.
Gawain-
Eldest child of Morgause and Lot, Gawain has 4 siblings: Agravaine, Gaheris, Gareth, and Mordred. With his father killed by Pellinore, he took an oath to avenge him.
He loves his mother, but isn’t as close with her. She tends to be closer with Gareth and Mordred
He is close to all his siblings though and adores them. He’s especially protective of the youngest two, Gareth and Mordred and has taken a kind of parent role with them since Lot died when they were really young.
He’s also close with his cousin Ywain and aunt Morgan.
Morgan-
The youngest daughter of Igraine and Gorlois, she was the closest to Igraine after her marriage to Arthur and misses her mother dearly.
She also makes a point of visiting Morgause as often as she can and loves to spoil her niblings. She wants to make sure Uther didn’t succeed in trying to keep them all apart.
And while her relationship with Arthur is complicated, she does consider him her brother and does care about him. He may be Uther’s son, but he’s Igraine’s son too.
She married Uriens but he was much older than her and she had no love for him. They had one child, Ywain.
She loves her son but when she left for Avalon, she couldn’t take him with her, so there’s a lot of distance between them. They both want to fix it but aren’t really sure how.
Galehaut-
He’s the son a a human man and giantess mother which causes some issues in his family since his father’s kin didn’t like this marriage and didn’t like him.
After his parents’ deaths, his paternal cousins have been trying to undermine and usurp his rule.
He is close with his maternal kin though. He has one aunt and uncle who helped raise him and advise him in his rule.
His parents wanted to have other children but never could and Galehaut dearly wishes he has siblings. He treats his cousins as alarms of siblings in turn.
Agravaine-
The younger sibling of Gawain but next oldest Orkney.
They had a bad relationship with Lot who always criticized and demeaned them. And they adore their mother but aren’t as close as they wish they were to her.
They’re closest to Mordred no question. Taking a part in raising Mordred. They adore Mordred and will do almost anything for them. Mordred admires and looks up to them in turn and will be mostly following them around at Camelot.
They love Gawain and but there’s some jealousy and resentment there in how much their father favored Gawain and how much everyone else loves Gawain.
They have a fine relationship with Gareth but their relationship with Gaheris is rather tense, partially due to Gaheris’ almost fanatical deviation to Lot’s memory.
Sybil-
Sybil was abandoned by their parents as a child to be raised by someone else in their community. It isn’t uncommon for fairies to let their kids be raised communally but it less common to abandon them completely.
They were ultimately taken to Vivian to be raised in her Lake and stayed there for the rest of their childhood.
They then left to become a student of Morgan on Avalon where they’ve been since.
They consider Vivian and Morgan to closest thing they have to family.

Augusnippets Day 26
Path of Comfort Prompt; "Snuggling" + "Flashbacks"
Day 26 of @augusnippets August 2024 Whump writing challenge! (Augusnippets Masterlist)
Characters;
- POV; Gawain - The Green Knight
- Lancelot - The Weeping Monk
(Character Masterlist)
(Ao3 Link)
Wordcount; 599
TWs; PTSD, cPTSD, flashbacks, trauma, abuse, panic attacks
Gawain silently wished he could guard Lancelot against the world and never let anyone harm him again, heart shattering at the sight of him curled up on the floor, hyperventilating, scared, alone.
Lancelot looked up as Gawain stepped into the tent, eyes like a deer caught by torchlight. Something about the utter vulnerability within his gaze, the way he'd shrunk upon himself like a scared child... He looked younger than Gawain had ever seen him.
If only Gawain could dive into his mind and battle his demons for him.
"Do you... want to talk about it?" Gawain softened his voice as best he could. Perhaps he couldn't slay Lancelot's demons, but he'd at least try to be there for him.
"I... I don't know," came the small, terrified whisper.
"You don't have to. I'm here regardless." Gawain told him. Cautiously as if trying not to spook a wild animal he slowly moved past to perch on the bed, patting the furs beside him.
The scared stray tentatively unfurled from where he hid, creeping closer, hesitating, before clambering on the bed, laying his head in Gawain's lap. Gawain began stroking his hair and cheek softly, a touch Lancelot flinched away from at first but leaned into after a moment.
Gawain didn't dare to speak, waiting with baited breath. He watched Lancelot slowly yet surely begin to relax in his lap, saw the moment he drew himself out of whatever memory he'd lost himself in and became more alert.
"It's funny, you know," Lancelot said almost out of nowhere, voice monotonous and with certainly no hint of humour about it, "I've spoken over and over how the Paladins tortured and brainwashed me...
"But 'till now... it was like I was talking about someone else. Like it didn't... didn't even happen to me... these flashes in my head were from someone else's life and I was just... watching it all from the side."
"And now?" Gawain asked, gently. A flicker of... something like grief flashed across Lancelot's face.
"Now it's real."
Lancelot began to shake, breaking down, his shoulders shook with sobs.
"It's all real..." he choked out, horrified amongst gasps, almost hyperventilating again. Gawain pulled him up properly onto his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around the Weeping Fey who gripped his shirt and cried into his chest.
"I'm here... You are safe" Gawain murmured. It physically pained him to feel the Fey he loved shattering into pieces in his arms. He couldn't help the tears that leaked from his own eyes at the sound of Lancelot's desperate whimpers and cries, more wounded animal than Fey, and Gawain just whispered over and over that Lancelot was safe, that he's not alone... Silently Gawain vowed to the Hidden that he'd collect every single shard that made Lancelot who he was and put them back together, piece by bloody piece if he had to.
After some time Lancelot began to calm, still breathing fast and hard but the sobs had subsided. He took several measured breaths, forcing it to slow, and Gawain matched it so that they breathed in tandem.
"I'm not going to ask if you're ok- I know you're not." Gawain said, slowly unwrapping his arms.
Lancelot gave a weak, wry smile, shuffling away to sit beside him.
"I am going to ask if you need anything of me."
Lancelot snorted at that, glancing at him with a glimmer of amusement as if a few choice ideas crossed his mind, before he looked away, mirth slipping from his face as quickly as it had come.
"You're already doing all I need."
Another sorta fluffy one today. Apt, since I've been feeling really shitty, this one was just what I needed tbh!
As always thanks for reading, onto the next!

I continue my unhinged theory for the potter children:
- Delphini Andromeda Potter: Adopted obviously. She is a metamorphmagus that prefers looking like Ginny's and Nymphy's love child but with green hair honoring Harry.
- James Sirius Potter: Same as the other timeline, looking like a black haired Ron with brown eyes and glasses.
- Albus Fleamont Potter: Same as the other timeline, looking like a healthy Harry with perfect vision.
- Lily Luna Potter: Same as other timeline, looking like a fem Harry with Lily's hair, Ginny's eyes and glasses.
- Euphemia Marlene Potter: Looks like a black haired Ginny with green eyes.
- Gawain Cepheus Potter: First redhaired male Potter since the Potter curse started. Has green eyes.
- Elizabeth Gwenog Potter: Tall black haired amazon, with brown eyes. Fraternal twin of Gawain.
Gawain and Elizabeth are 10 years younger than Euphemia and were conceived in a party celebrating Albus' graduation.
😂😂😂😂😂
Well the number of kids looks right at least!
Gawain. Gosh. I’ve made him so unlikable this time around. Homeboy doesn’t deal well with stress.

This is a weird question and I totally understand if you can’t answer it but do you know or have a post explaining the ages of the knights of the round table in comparison to Arthur? It just gets confusing with some implied to be significantly younger like his son Mordred or who’s his age or who’s been there since the beginning or his brother or his (Ector) father’s age. I just found out Lancelot and Arthur are actually not around the same age? Sorry, if this question doesn’t make sense. 😅 I want to know the ages of the knights in comparison to Arthur like what characters are implied to be around his age, or much older, or significantly younger (ofc I know the legends vary) and whose ages are completely freely interpretable/can be anything. I hope this makes sense, sorry for bothering ya 😭
Not a bother at all! and the question makes perfect sense!
Unfortunately I do not think anyone's age is fixed, as far as I know! Pretty much it is a free for all, especially given that in some stories even Gawain is older than Arthur. By the fact that Mordred does not have to necessary be Arthur's son, he can also be older or of the same age.
I think the only things that are kinda stable in post-Malory canon is Ector, Pellinore, Merlin, Lot, Morgause, Morgana, Kay being older than Arthur, but a part from that, everything else is a personal choice!

The flip side is making Gawain tall. It’s illegal. There are very few concepts I can’t be sold on for someone’s personal version of the story, but that man is the shortest brother, and he’s fine with it.
RIP to other Arthurian retellings but I’m simply not going to make a character short and then give them a complex about it.

reading the death of arthur
"I tell you truly that I myself killed eighteen, not because I was a better knight than any other, but because misfortune afflicted me more than any of my companions. And you may be assured that it was not a feat of prowess, but rather the consequence of my sin" my dude, what kind of "misfortune" did it have to be for you to kill eighteen of your coworkers
a thing I certainly love about Arthuriana is how older ladies (Guinevere, Morgause, Morgan) remain considered gorgeous as they age and continue having (younger) lovers
"But Lancelot, who wanted to be there without being recognized by anyone, said to those around him that he was so ill that there was no way he could go" ohhh I can't go to the tournament... cough cough... I'm sick... he's so funny
"and I tell you truly that if I were a woman, I would want the sleeve to be mine, provided that he who wore it really loved me" yeah, yeah, Gawain, you wish you were Lancelot's girlfriend, we've heard this before
"And moreover, we know that with all his heart he loved King Pelles’s daughter, who bore Galahad" the knowledge of how it all really went makes this line quite painful
noooo Arthur is so happy to have found Morgan again and wants to take her to Camelot to live with him 💔
really curious as to at what point between this and Malory the roles of Gaheris and Gareth in the story (as in which one of them is Gawain's favourite brother whose death becomes the breaking point) were reversed, as well as at what point Gareth became the sweet boy he is in Le Morte instead of the boring asshole he is in the Vulgate
"In his sorrow he said that he had lived too long when he saw that those whom he had nurtured had died a terrible death" not to detract from this certainly tragic moment, but aren't Arthur's nephews in the Vulgate more or less the same age as he is
wait, how does Guinevere know that Mordred is Arthur's son?
"For he began it, and afterwards so did I; and when it came to a halt, I made my uncle King Arthur start it up again. Thus, it is only right that the first joy or sorrow should be mine" I am feeling Unwell
oh god oh fuck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh, so that's where the Lancelot/Gawain ship name comes from. Oh.
I'm ignoring everyone's ages because come on. "At that time, Sir Gawain could well have been seventy-six years old, and King Arthur was ninety-two" are you kidding me
"The king came to Sir Gawain, whose injuries were healing well, except for the head wound, from which he was to die" once again the funniest phrasing possible of something that shouldn't be funny at all
actually fuck this, not gonna try to be witty anymore, the ending of this story has always devastated me and always will
