listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

toji coming home from work late at night and finding you and the kids sleeping in your shared bed. you've got little megumi to your left and tsumiki to your right, their bodies curling into you as they use you as their pillow. drool dribbles from the corner of gumi's lips as he lets out the faintest snores and miki's hair is all over her face and you look awfully stiff under them, your arms probably dead and numb from the position. but he knows you would never really complain, you'd never push the kids away.

toji takes a moment to stare at the three of you. safe and sound. he burns the image into his head so he can cherish it forever before rushing to brush is teeth and to change into something more comfortable – he can't wait to see megumi scrunch his nose as toji wishes him goodnight with a little boop and he can't wait to see the small pout tsumiki will wear when he adjusts her body into a better position. he can't wait to hear the hushed call of his name when you realize he's back home, he can't wait for you to reach for him in the dark.

The fact that if you smile more in life, your corpse is more likely to hold a slight smile constantly grips my mind whenever I remember Scar “You never know if you’ll wake up in the morning” Goodtimes is constantly smiling. Even before the vex stuff, which could explain it.

Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe he just wants to cut on funeral costs that little bit. Maybe he’s already dead and that’s just how his muscles tightened.

Maybe in the beginning of the infection in the crafting dead he didn’t miraculously survive, maybe all he did was come back.

A smile permanently on his face, a reminder of a life he lost.
