My Skyrim Dragonborn, Vakna True-Thunder shortly after turning an unlucky band of highwaymen into a three-course meal. Wanted to make an illustration alluding to her history with lycanthropy and the Daedric Prince of Prey over the course of a decade. After all, where is the sport in hunting an unarmed prisoner on the run--a young messenger for the Jarl of Windhelm himself who had yet to see even her sixteenth winter? The pursuing Dominion jailers and hounds never had any intention of playing fair, blood moon or not, so Hircine offered the desperate girl the power to even these odds and make his forest a proper hunting ground once more. And in years since, she has certainly never let this power go to waste.

the idea that Miraak keeps his mask on out of insecurity or uncertainty until he begins to form a strong bond between the LDB is awesome, i love it. but i ALSO love the idea of him leaving it behind in Apocrypha against his own will.

in my fic, Miraak's mask still remains as a mental "safety net" between him and my LDB. but during an intense fight between the two at the Summit, his mask is knocked clean off from a rather heavy blow from the Dragonborn. it skims across the clearing out of reach before Bend Will is used to subdue him.

after a should-have-been-fatal-but-wasn't injury the LDB sustains from one of Mora's minions, Miraak is forced to haul the two of them out of Apocrypha after an agreement of a truce, his mask left behind. he doesn't have the comfort of concealing his blemished features, or the eerie marks of Hermaeus Mora's influence left on his skin. his mask is abandoned at the Summit.

only for it to be found decades later by Mora's next eager Champion.

Don't imagine trying to practice magic on your off time. How you can't seem to figure it out and how frustrating it is. How you keep trying and trying but can only manage to keep a few bullets summoned at once.

Don't imagine glancing up and realizing that Reven has been quietly watching the entire time. How your cheeks flush from embarrassment as he narrows his eye sockets. How he doesn't mock you like you thought he would and instead just sighs.

Don't imagine him approaching you and how he quietly asks if you'd like some pointers. How you get the sense that he's not asking. How he sounds annoyed but how you know he could've just walked away.

Don't imagine how effortlessly he demonstrates his own magic. How the air seems to become charged. How a shiver runs down your spine when you realize how powerful he is. How this isn't even a fraction of his true strength.

Don't imagine how he creates a few basic bullet patterns. How he looks at you expectantly until you realize he wants you to try. How you try your best to copy him but how you can't seem to get it right.

Don't imagine how he sighs and moves behind you. How his body presses against yours as he adjusts your posture. How he speaks so softly that you feel the hair on the back of your neck stand up. How he's so close that you can feel the warmth of his breath.

Don't imagine how hard it is to focus on summoning magic now. How he quietly gives you pointers and how he adjusts your hands as needed. Definitely don't imagine how he chuckles when you have to give up. How he doesn't move out of your space immediately.

Don't imagine realizing that he decided to fluster you on purpose. How you've never seen this side of him before. How you thought that he hated you all this time.

Don't imagine how he presses his face against your neck. How he compliments your desire to keep trying even when you're clearly struggling. How he offers to keep teaching you. How his words seem to hang in the air and how you get the sense that he's referencing something else.

@hircines-hunter's fault that I've drawn this after sending pictures of statues which they saved, because I saw this one statue (Adoration by Stephan Sinding) and it absolutely screamed Balgruuf and Elyse and their dynamics.

See it's not that I don't think Mora and Miraak couldn't have like fluffy love filled moments, it's that I don't think Miraak wants that. Hermaeus Mora would definitely though. Look at that guy, he'd totally love to go on a date or something. He'd absolutely lose his mind if Miraak was soft with him. While Miraak... I imagine that dude is like toxic yaoi personified. Dude wants it violent and messy.
