Submitted Prompts #144
*shakes a bag of bird skulls I found in the woodsI and places it on your desk like it's a bag of gold*
I had an idea:
What if the Fenton parents are, in fact very competent Hunters, but they love their children more than their work?
Say the first shot Maddie ever fired at Phanton actually lands, and the scream he makes sounds too much like Danny's voice, to a point even with any ghostly distortion, his own still recognizes the voice.
I can see her pulling Jack to the side, making a ruckus about how the "darn ghost got away just as her blaster ran out of juice". Mostly as a way to get Danny her darling son to leave and go somewhere safe, while his parents have a whole breakdown in the GAV about their dead son.
And so begins the stealthy studies on how Phantom's "human disguise" works, the Revelation of Horrible Truth, keeping tabs on Danny's growth and revising their whole attitude on Ghosts to account for the fact that Danny himself is, at least in some part, a Ghost himself, but all he's done is live his life (and be the little hero Mom always said he'd grow up to be).
Jazz stumbles across his secret and is immediately pulled aside to join the secret "Protect the Baby Ghost" family group chat.
"And what about all the times they shot at him in canon" I hear you ask?
They're damn good shots, but while Maddie can train herself to aim just so that the shot misses just enough it looks like Phantom dodged it, Jack has the Fenton Bazooka outfitted with a tracking HUD that purposely fails to hit everyone's favorite Ghost Boy.
Danny picks up on that, but not on the fact that They Know.
And so begins the single most convoluted training arc ever.
Next time Skulker's in town, Phantom has become untouchable. Not a single shot or electrified net reaches it's target.
(The electrified weapons in particular send the Fentons into a rage when Sam and Tucker finally can't keep hiding it, and come clean about what happened, since the Fentons have proven themselves to be trustworthy)
When Red Huntress comes about, and Valerie Grey becomes barely a distant acquaintance after having only just now started becoming more than a friend, and with the GIW sniffing about, Maddie and Jack pull Danny to sit between them and finally tell him they know, and they want to prove that they'll love him just as much as before, whether Human or Ghost.
Danny breaks down in the safety of his family's love, and takes some time off as Phantom to help his parents establish a proper line of communication with the Ancients, considering they've kinda adopted themselves into the roles of Aunts and Uncles towards their little Ghostling.
Which is a good thing, because in Phantom's absence the GIW make a giant spectacle of destroying several houses while chasing some blob ghosts. They're chased out of town by brick, stone and metal bat.
Next time Red Huntress actually manages to hurt Danny, the Fentons pack up and leave. The Portal can be transported somewhere else. It can be rebuilt.
Their baby boy can't be rebuilt, no matter how much he likes to be a little shit and ignore Reality to quote Shakespeare at his own head (thank you Mr Lancer, for not giving up on him) or "give them a hand".
As Fenton takes the last tour of Amity, Phantom disappears. The Protal has been left seemingly unguarded.
The Ghosts decide to have one last hurrah in Anity Park before Danny closes the Portal, as per their deal. They won't hurt anyone, just cause chaos, but in return Phantom won't stop them. It's not like poor Red has the energy to chase them down, now that she's been "upgraded" into Amity's sole defender (the one time Lancer compares her new lack of sleep to Danny's, horrifying pieces start lining up too well in her mind)
The Fentons move out. Into a quiet farm neighbouring the land that belongs to the delightful couple that are the Kents, and their darling son, little Clark, who stares at Danny mildly horrified whenever he comes by to babysit, or help out with fixing the stubborn tractor. One day under Danny's clever hands, and Jonathan Kent's eagle-eyed gaze, and that damned tractor has never worked so well before. The boy's alright in the old man's eyes, and he makes sure they kid knows it.
After quiet rooftop admissions of one small boy's growing powers (I know Adult Clark is a brick house of a man, but what if he was a little twig while young) and the reveal of Something More Than Human from his honorary older brother, the course of Time sets into it's best version, and an Old Clock smiles, as Superman rises, only to be scolded by Spectre for recklessness.
(Dunno how well it came across, but I'm envisioning Valerie's feelings towards Danny to go from bitter resignation because she " had to" push him away, to horrified despair when the truth starts falling into place. He's her "the one that got away". And it's not like she gave him much of a reason to trust her with his secrets.
Maybe older and wiser Red Huntress gets invited to the Justice League, and has to deal with not just Fenton, but also Phantom flirting with her, after a good long conversation on how dumb they both were as kids, and a mutual vow of "I think I can do better now, and I want to prove it to you")

Thinking of cryptid Batfam and them like, pretending to be straight up feral. Like never speaking human language or anything and building up their vigilante outfits to look as natural and Creachur as possible. You know what, give 'em wings and such too. Mechanical ones that started more like gliders but developed more and more into proper ones as they tested things.
But I just want justice league or other Outsiders (Potential crossovers perhaps?) to venture into Gotham to investigate the really high crime-rate, or maybe it's after No Man's Land where they're trying to figure out what happened. Only to start hearing whispers about these beasts that appear each night.

Do what you will with this, but I finally watched Transformers One in VO with french subtitles and for "Zeta Prime has fallen" they wrote "Zeta Prime est tombée" (when Orion, D and Bee find the map on the -50 level).
Now french has that insane habit of gendering every word. "Tombé" means a dude fell, but "tombée" means it was a gal who fell. Zeta sounded and looked very masc to me in VO, but I guess they're a woman in french.

It might be a little weird but I am absolutely fascinated with IDW Prowl and Sentinel's relationship. Like Prowl is a Cold Constructed which we know some people genuinely thought weren't real people who grew up in Petrex which was apparently fucking awful managed to get out to Iacon as a forensic scientist who'd never been in a fire fight and jump to Sentinel's right hand man. Who would argue with him to his face and was basically his Jiminy Cricket keeping him from just destroying everything by the skin o fhis teeth.
The thing was Sentinel was super conservative and god-king who was working with the Senate and absolutely did NOT have to listen to Prowl or keep him around to complain about morals and ethics. There was absolutely no reason he couldn't have chucked this friendless weirdo most Cybertronians thought had a knockoff soul in the trash. But he kept him? And actually listened to him sometimes enough to complain about Prowl always putting a damper on his plans by talking about "please do not kill civilians" and "maybe we could do a little less police brutality" like Sentinel. You can just kill him.
But no, that was Sentinel's Annoying SIC.
In his own weird messed up way Sentinel kinda respected Prowl and listened and acknowledged him. Let him argue with him and argue him out of the extremes he wanted. Which given what can be assumed of Prowl's upbringing was probably pretty significant of a gesture even if there's no way Sentinel wasn't an equally shitty boss.
What was going on in his head?
I personally say he wanted to bang him, but sex/romance was a sin, so he just hung around in unfulfilled lust that he had to pray away while Prowl just did paperwork and was incredibly boring and unhinged at the same time because he ARGUED with Sentinel despite his own position and Sentinel's entire personality.
This is rambly, but I think Sentinel should be included in IDW Prowl’s terrible exes list.

Is Thorn able to spray? He is a skunk, after all.
Tumblr media
Zeta: "Like you said, he's a skunk. Skunks spray."
Thorn: "DON'T GO TELLING PEOPLE!!!"
While Thorn does in fact spray, he doesn't do it often. Much like skunks in real life, there's a chance he'll spray if he's frightened enough, but even then he tries not to because it's embarrassing as all hell.
But it's mostly because, as someone who tends to plants regularly, he doesn't wanna ruin the smell of the flowers he works his tail off for. Zeta already does enough damage whenever they pass out on top of his bushes, for crying out loud!!

sooo I noticed something
There are these obvious parallels between Wednesday and Enid on the one hand and Morticia and Weems on the other hand in terms of being roommates in Ophelia Hall, being captain and co-pilot at the Poe Cup, their general aesthetics (Morticia + Wednesday = dark hair, dark clothes, dark everything / Weems + Enid = blonde hair, bright clothes) etc.
I think these parallels are also emphasized by scenery:
Tumblr media
so at first you would think: there is supposed to be a parallel between Wednesday and Morticia and then Enid could be compared to Weems in some ways
BUT if you think about it and analyze the characters more deeply you could say that in some ways Wednesday has more in common with Weems than with Morticia, whereas Enid has more in common with Morticia than with Weems.
Here are some things I noticed while thinking about this:
#1 their roles at the Poe Cup
This is what initially made me think more closely about the parallels between the four of them: Weems tells Wednesday that the last time Ophelia Hall won the Poe Cup, Morticia Addams captained the team - just like Enid captains the team now. Weems was Morticia’s co-pilot - just like Wednesday is Enid’s co-pilot. This made me wonder: Why didn’t they make the parallels between Wednesday and Morticia more obvious by just having Wednesday be the captain and Enid the co-pilot? The reason for Wednesday being the co-pilot is Yoko not being able to participate in the Poe Cup but instead of making Yoko the original captain and Enid the co-pilot, having Yoko be unable to participate and then making Wednesday the captain and Enid the co-pilot, the writers decided to have it the other way around. Enid now has the position that Morticia used to have and Wednesday has the position that Weems used to have. Which doesn’t put Wednesday in her mother’s position - but in Weems’s position. And Enid in Morticia’s position.
#2 their character traits
Like Wednesday Morticia has a dark aesthetic and is drawn to dark and morbid things. There are obvious parallels. But if you look at their personalities more closely you see a lot of differences. While Wednesday never expresses emotions, doesn’t show any interest in romance and is very aloof in general, Morticia is very likable, very passionate and romantic (in her own unique dark and morbid way of course) and also sentimental and kind of soft. Wednesday doesn’t care about others at all and is a loner whereas Morticia’s love for her husband is unmatched and her family is very important to her. Enid, though not matching the Addams’ aesthetic at all, seems to have more in common with Morticia personality-wise than Wednesday has in common with her mother. Enid is engaging and passionate, enthusiastic and has a high interest in romance. She is also likable and dedicated and emotional, in a way like Morticia. I have always thought, even before Tim Burton’s “Wednesday”, that Morticia Addams could in some ways be described as having a “bright” personality as opposed to her dark appearance. She draws others in, she’s devoted and dedicated, happy and positive. Enid is like that too while Wednesday is completely different. Morticia herself talks about Wednesday’s and her opposing dispositions when talking to Wednesday about her psychic abilities - Morticia's disposition being positive (which causes her visions to be more positive and which makes her a Dove) while Wednesday’s disposition being darker on the other hand (which causes her visions to be more potent and powerful and which makes her a Raven). I think it is very obvious that Enid’s disposition is positive too, just like Morticia’s.
And then there’s Weems. Obviously, Weems and Wednesday don’t have the exact same personality. On the outside, Weems is always nice and friendly, she’s polite and civil. But there is also a different side to her. She doesn’t show it to others but she does have a rather dark and angry side that she is hiding. She is very bitter about her past and seems to hold on to a lot of jealousy towards Morticia. She can also get very angry and harsh. And she is serious, unlike Morticia, who is soft and angelic. Because of her bitterness and her seriousness and the fact that she hides these negative feelings from others (when she confesses to Thornhill that her own Rave’N was only disappointing she then quickly changes the topic and doesn’t want the conversation to get more personal) and especially the throwing-a-yearbook-page-into-the-fire-scene with that evil and hateful expression on her face, I would describe her disposition as rather dark as well. Weems is nice and a good person but she is not light-hearted and carefree, there is a certain severeness to her. Therefore a dark disposition - just like Wednesday. And when you think about it, she is a loner, too. She is surrounded by people but no one is even remotely close to her - just like Wednesday.
#3 their lives at Nevermore
Enid is very passionate about Nevermore and the whole school spirit thing, participates in a lot of school activities, is captain of the Ophelia Hall team at the Poe Cup etc. Morticia was like that too. She was captain of the fencing team, Queen of the Dark Prom and President of the Séance Society (what a legend) and Wednesday says that Nevermore “was the perfect school” for her mother. Just like Nevermore is the perfect school for Enid! Both Enid and Morticia are popular and successful and show a high level of identification with the school.
By the end of the first season Wednesday seems to enjoy being at Nevermore. But she did NOT (and I like that fact and love that the writers did it that way) and will probably never follow her mother’s footsteps. Wednesday has no interest in networking and being popular and taking part in group activities. And while it is nice that she found people she cares about (mostly Enid and Eugene), she will not be like her captain-and-queen-and-president-of-everything mother and prefers to be an outsider, even at a school for outsiders.
I think it is very likely that Weems was an outsider when she was a student at Nevermore too, just like Wednesday. We know that she was always jealous of Morticia because Morticia was popular. When Morticia says that they had good times at Nevermore, Weems basically says “speak for yourself”, implying that her time at Nevermore wasn’t that great, and at the Rave’N she tells Thornhill that all she remembers about her own Rave’N is “disappointment”. The negative feelings she has about her time as a student at Nevermore go as far as to RIP OUT a page of her old yearbook and dramatically throw it into the fire. So like Wednesday she probably didn’t take part in many school acitivities that she was excited about, she wasn’t very popular and maybe even an outsider. I think this is a parallel between Wednesday and Weems - though, of course, Wednesday WANTS it that way while Weems was and still is bitter about it...
#4 Wednesday and Weems being in Morticia’s shadow
There is this huge parallel between Wednesday and Weems about being in Morticia’s shadow and trying to find their own path without Morticia’s ‘legacy’ overshadowing their every move. Wednesday says multiple times that she has no interest in following in Morticia’s footsteps because she couldn’t live up to the expectations based on her mother's legacy anyway. Just like Weems could never compete with Morticia. I especially noticed one scene where Wednesday expresses very strongly that she doesn’t want to be compared to her mother all the time and that she has the need to be her own person. In this scene Weems compares Wednesday to Morticia and when Wednesday tells her that she and her mother are two different people, Weems seems to think about Wednesday’s words for a moment. I don’t know whether I interpret too much into this but I think that Weems’s face shows that she realizes that she is very familiar with the need to be “independent” from Morticia Addams. She knows very well how it is to be in Morticia’s shadow and I think it is in that moment that she realizes that Wednesday feels the same way about Morticia as she does. It was not easy for Weems and it is not easy for Wednesday to be “linked” to Morticia’s legacy at Nevermore because she was perfect - she was popular, well-liked, happy, successful, dedicated and beautiful. So in a way, Wednesday’s experience at Nevermore is similar to Weems’s experience: always being in Morticia’s shadow. And I think that’s what Weems realizes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Wednesday tells her mother: “I’m not you, mother. I will never fall in love or be a housewife or have a family.” So... she’ll be like Weems then? She’ll choose a whole different path than her mother just like Weems chose a whole different path than Morticia did.
To sum it all up: there is a lot to unpack. Which makes the show so great. And I think about the Wednesday-Weems and Morticia-Enid parallels constantly.

List of Why The Fuck Didn't I Realise I Was Into Women Sooner #2: Catherine Zeta Jones's sword fight with Antonio Banderas in Mask of Zorro.
That part where her hair was hanging loose and wild and he'd cut the shoulder off her nightdress and she disarmed and advanced on him like an avenging Fury, eyes ablaze and breathing hard— fundamentally altered my brain chemistry. Haven't been the same person since.
