It is so frustrating that the LA Times does not have a gift article option, because this article is an incredible snapshot of the U.S. immigration system from the immigrants' perspective. Everyone should read this.

We live in a country where so many people are living half-lives, lives of deep uncertainty, instability, and fear. Their lives are paralyzed. Every story told in this article is a story I have encountered time and time again.

In the (too) many years I have been working in immigration law, it always stuns me how little American citizens understand about the process and what it takes to become a legal resident here. A friend once said to me, totally sincerely, that before he had met me he thought that the only thing keeping undocumented immigrants from becoming legal was that they didn't want to fill out the paperwork and pay a fee.

In reality, the U.S. immigration system is a sprawling network of laws that have been built one on top of the other to create a labyrinthine process that takes years to navigate and is impossible without expensive legal assistance.

Here is a snapshot of the process from the article:

The U.S. caps the number of permanent employment-based immigrants at 140,000 annually, with no more than 7% allowed from any one country. As a result, people in countries with large numbers of applicants could wait a lifetime. The wait for an employment-based green card for residents of India is 134 years, according to Cato’s estimate, based on government data. A U.S. citizen who wants legal permission for their married adult child to immigrate to the U.S. from Mexico would have to wait 160 years at the current rate of approval.

One of the more recent developments I have observed since the Trump administration is a growing fear among people who have already successfully navigated the process that their status--even among naturalized citizens--continues to be perilous and liable to be snatched away at any given moment.

And this has a real impact on our communities - on our ability to enforce the laws that are supposed to make all of us safe and successful.

How to get a binder

There are lots of ways to get a binder like getting a job, saving up $40 or more, all just to buy one online. However, this is mostly meant for those who can' just buy one for whatever reason, whether it be financial struggles, transphobic family members, or even just disabilities that make it hard to work.

As a closeted Trans teenager with multiple disabilities, getting a job and buying a binder online wasn't an option for me.

One option is finding free binder programs. Currently PointofPride is backed up by about a year but there are a ton of other ones. Most of them are for Americans so the hardest part will be finding one for a different country that isn't backed up by at least a year.

In my city we have one where you sign up online and you go to the place in person and get stuff like Binders, STP's Packers, Trans tape, ect.

Another option is asking a friend for one. I had to do this one because i didn't have a way to make it to the event to get any gender affirming items. This might be a bit harder though 'cause your friend either has to have money or have an old binder they don't use anymore.

Something else you can try is saving up money and purchasing a visa gift card. How i'd personally go about it is every once in a while asking your parents for money for lunch and then stashing it somewhere until you have enough, however, don't do that if your parents are strict to the point they randomly look through your stuff.

another way to save up money is using apps like mistplay or just play. You can get paid for playing shitty mobile games. It will take a long ass time to make up the money but it's an easy way to make some money to buy a binder from amazon, just be careful when buying one off of Amazon as some of them can be dangerous (binders with the clasps/zipper on the side)

Make sure to size yourself correctly, don't buy a size too small, and make sure not to wear your binder for more than 8 hours.

Hey kiddo, thanks for the ask. I totally understand wanting kid stuffs to play with! If you think it is going to be very shamed or punished in your household, maybe avoid buying things until you’re older, but here are some tips if you are really wanting to access these things.

1. Buy something in store: you can find pacifiers that are 36 months plus that are decently big enough o be comfortable. They are harder to find but try drug stores and places with extensive baby isles.

2. Consider what your buying: Sippy cups are actually the easier to keep, even right under other people’s noses. They are easy to find at stores, and if you are not picky, there are a lot of toddler cups that pass quite easily as a “childish water bottle” outside of its packaging. Anything with flip up straws and drinking bits can often pass. If you want proper sturdy sippy cups, its as simple as keeping the lids separated. Those solid coloured sippy cups are great because with out the lid it just passes as a plastic cup.

3. Buying adult sized pacifiers online: If you are dead set on getting an adult pacifier, Absolutely Do NOT use your parents card’s and do not buy one if you think that your parents will not be understanding about it and that you could get in serious trouble. If you don’t have a visa debit, go to the store to buy a visa gift card to use online, and order from a third party seller. Like people who sell them decorated on Instagram, this way you can ask for discreet shipping. Make sure the shop is for agere. You don’t want your family concerned that what you are doing is nsfw, and obviously it’s important you don’t enter those spaces as a minor.

4. Be honesty about as much as possible: Don’t hide things that aren’t absolutely necessary. If your family is understanding, no need to hide things like you love for kids movies, or your stuffies or colouring pages, it fosters trust, and it can help them be more understand of your childish side if they already know about it!

5. Be prepared to have an honest conversation about your gear: there is always a chance people will find things. Be prepared to explain how and why you use them, to try and bargain and at least get out of trouble. For pacifiers, try things like “I know it’s odd but it was recommended to me because it prevents teeth grinding (or insert other harmful thing here) while you sleep, and I was having trouble with that”. For kids cups try something like “I know it’s childish but the tip was so much more comfortable and I thought it was cute”.

Sorry this was super long winded but I’ve got lots of thoughts about this. I totally understand not wanting to share this hobby with your family, and as long as you are confident that you’re in a situation where it is safe to have some little gear, I don’t see much harm if you’re thoughtful about it. To be honest, the double wedding is going to be such a logistical nightmare to coordinate. It will take a minimum of an year and a half to two to fully plan and carry this out and I am not even counting in the wedding design planning, magical guests accommodating, multiple bridal dresses designing by Tomoyo, fixing up auspicious dates, the traditional jewellery design consultations at Hong Kong, the two betrothals - yuino and Gua Da Li - their associated logistics including the bride price, diaper money, the betrothal gifts, and tens of other stuff including the Li Clan and its dynamics. Not to mention, there is household registration in Japan and Hong Kong, changing of family names, creating new family seals, renovating/redecorating and moving into the summer house, figuring out new visa statuses, balancing out high school/entrance exams/college and employment, not to mention Syaoran would possibly stress himself out over the bride price (my headcanon is that he earned that entire amount himself and was possibly thinking of buying Sakura and himself a new apartment as a part of her bride price before Gramps handed Sakura that summer house as a yuino or an early wedding gift) and now he does not know what else to use the money for so that it could constitute a "proper" and "respectable" bride price and would probably be stressing himself out. On Sakura's end, she would probably be stressed out more regarding the entrance exams as well as being worried for Syaoran than anything but ultimately everything turns out to be alright. Hopefully. Thoughts on my visa run to Tokyo: not to be a complainer (I'm gonna complain), but taking into consideration that it was a last-minute decision with minimal planning, I was a bit underwhelmed. I have fond memories of walking around Naha, Okinawa some years ago with great delight at simply being there, but perhaps a certain percentage of that was "first time in Japan" thrill (or I was so fed up with my circumstances at home that the break was particularly welcome). It could also be that enduring life with recently sprained ribs took my focus off the sights somewhat (there was a hefty price to be paid for forgetting to hold in sneezes). As such I didn't press myself to go to too many places: I stayed at a hostel in a traditional house in Asakusa, and spent the most time walking around Yanaka and Koenji with a brief foray into Shinjuku (albeit late enough that my feet hurt and it was very crowded on the streets, so this did not last long). There were so many foreign tourists in Asakusa that I felt rather as if I were in that Japan-themed part of Disney World, and I found myself gravitating inevitably to the riverside (pictured above).

If anything I felt self-conscious that said tourist contingent appeared to be having the time of their lives, whereas I had come here somewhat on a whim and kept being told "wrong ticket!" by the metro staff almost every time I made at attempt at transferring

(In addition to not buying a SIM card I also didn't bother with a metro card because I figured individual tickets couldn't be that hard, could they? Ahahaha.)

But for all these woes, I do love looking at Japanese buildings (a treat for my niche interest in external fire escape stairs), the bakery offerings were excellent, and I decided eventually to forgive myself for my restaurant anxiety and just eat onigiri in the cemetery such that I was at least ingesting something. I'd go back to Japan (to other cities), but I'd like to do it with company, and more planning.

Coming back was in fact the real adventure, with the flight diversion to Macao, the jaunt in the wee hours of the morning with my hotel roommate, and eventual return to Taipei. The immigration process has really been streamlined, there's an online arrival card now, and the line moved so fast I just managed to fill it out before it was my turn. The agent barely glanced at me before stamping me in (I had actually been practicing my speech justifying flying in and out of the country every 90 days, and even printed out a bank statement, but the online form required one to list an exit flight, which evidently preempted any interrogation).

In the moment I was extremely relieved! But now I find myself bereft of my regular activities either on account of my ribs (watching shibari is not half as fun as being on the receiving end, and I really miss biking) or because I've become disillusioned with a couple of my former sources of regular socialisation. I feel increasingly like I don't actually have much in common with the people at the trans group beyond us all being trans, and my presence (or lack thereof, last time I had a bit of a panic episode and ran away without saying anything) at their events is pretty meaningless as far as 'volunteering' goes. I also abruptly lost interest in a friend I'd spent a lot of time with in the past year, which bothered me quite a bit (how could I feel so heartless towards someone who had bought me a thoughtful birthday gift) until I did enough writing and figured it out, but that still hasn't rekindled any desire to hang out again, except perhaps out of guilt (not the best motivation). In the face of these things (amongst others), and the fact that I've done my 3rd visa run this year with no apparent plan to stop living in 3 month increments, I think it's time...time to go back to therapy.

Last week I made the decision, at the urging of friends and family, to give some of the online dating sites a try. Not the hookup crap like Tinder, but the ones for a more traditional, grown-up relationship. Holy hell, what a cesspool. Obviously since I’m a guy, I’m only looking at the female profiles, but I’m guessing the male profiles are just as bad.  Some of the pics are so laughable bad (and I don’t mean the actual looks of the person, we’re all stuck with what we were born with) I’m talking more about crappy backgrounds, out of focus, extreme close ups, ultra messy rooms, etc.  And then there’s the bio’s;  You say you’re not a smoker, but there’s 3 pics of you smoking. It’s great if you quit, but maybe pick other pics? And you say you’re a devout Christian, but maybe re-think the pic of you in just panties, covering your boobs with your hands?  Oh and hell to the no, don’t post pics of your kids in your profile. On and on it goes, and don’t even get me started on the scammers. With the first site I joined, within the first 20 mins, I was asked three times to send gift-cards or pre-paid Visa cards because...”I’m waiting on my check and I’m out of gas”. Bullshit.  And of course there’s the profiles that use pics of porn stars as their own. For the over 45 crowd, the porn star Dee Williams is a popular choice.  Eh....at least it’s somewhat entertaining.

Holiday Market - All shops downtown will be hosting a holiday market where you can come and get last minute gifts or just shop to your hearts delight. Swing by the Daily Drip for a peppermint latte or Bubbl for homemade latkes.

(Sexy) Santa Con- Rather than a Santa convention, Lunar Cove will be hosting a Sexy Santa Contest (Con for short cause Eclipse is punny like that). The winner will take to the stage where they will sit in a decked out Sleigh as partygoers come up one after one to take photos with the winner.

Summary:
