Wof AU Burn
I have wrote several posts about the sisters, the war and my AU daughter of Burn, Oasis, but I never wrote something that consolidated what this Burn was in the context of my AU.
I have had Burn written differently along the years, from as close to canon as possible, to so bizarrely different you might have called her Bubbles, for she was so harmless, she would probably be an old grandma of the DoD, not a general.
I have seem over the years some incredibly cringy Burn apologists, which I do not understand, by trying to justify her actions, they don't make you see where she was coming from, but actually worse by the fact she felt threatened, judged or outright offended by some dragonets, like BRUH.
Even if I believe Burn was the best choice, purely because a leader matters only by their capacity to keep the state together, not how caring, good or kind they are, and Burn simply was the perfect choice between Blister's self-fighting followers and Blaze's harmless incompetence.
So... After a long tangent, what would my version of Burn be?
Well, for starters, she is not a villain, but an antagonist, as for book 1, the villainy was already Scarlet's role. Another one would be Blister, which would be the main villain of the arc, not just almost a side character of book 2 and an unbelievably stupid genius of book 5.
Before Oasis' death, Burn was a general, it was her thing, as her mother's before her and a tradition her brothers and father followed, with the only exception being Blister, which Oasis denied any training fearful of her schemes and Blaze for well... simply not being up to the task.
After Oasis' death, Burn grew more paranoid and aggressive, resembling slightly her canon self as her emotional control went out of the window. But above that, she wanted to present herself as a fitting queen for the sandwings, a noble warrior, the queen not afraid of making the hard decisions when the time came, and the SandWings simply respected that, for the common folk, a strong leader who protects them is far more worthy than a harmless one or a manipulative schemer.
So Burn has nearly total SandWing support in the war, in contrast to Blaze's large supporter numbers in canon.
Advancing forward to the brightest night, Burn doesn't kill Hvitur, she doesn't even meet him, because:
1º- She doesn't believe in the prophecy and is very dismissive, so she won't waste her time solving a problem that was Scarlet's (that will become far more evident later)
2º- The SkyWings were far quicker to find and pursue Hvitur than she would ever be, so they capture him and end up dropping the egg, because at a night of frivolous festivities, they were drunk and completely careless.
3º- Those SkyWing soldiers were executed later, because by the principles set by the first queens, killing an egg is an unforgivable crime, a crime not even Scarlet can simply commit without an immediate call for her head to be off her neck, and even if Hvitur was captured and would later die at her arena, he would have made sure those soldiers were punished.
4º- Scarlet's killing of the eggs in the wingery is reasoned by her with the mystical idea that somehow the moons had cursed those eggs, which she had them painted secretly to look like animus and firescale eggs, thus justifying her actions of destroyed all of them. Her subjects were scared, but understood such course of action following the SkyWing laws. However, Scarlet would save one large egg, which would hatch to Peril and Sky (never found by Wren, his name is Meteor).
Skipping time forward, the DoD would escape after their guardians tried to kill Glory and would be immediately captured by Scarlet (who would always fly with guards, because she leaving alone out in the wild was so unbelievable stupid, an assassin would quickly off her.) The DoD would fight in her arena as in canon but skipping to the next day, Scarlet's hatching day.
This is where I rather strength the dynamic of Burn and Scarlet from the canon, Burn despises Scarlet, she thinks her big show is a frivolous waste of time and resources, but has to play along, because she is one of the few dragons Burn can not bark orders at, because Scarlet does what she wants, and if you don't believe, be ready for she to switch sides on a heart beat.
Burn watches the DoD dismissively at first, but each time they prove their will to live and resist Scarlet, Burn grows more interested in them, there was one thing she found rather amusing, watching Scarlet fail at her big clown show.
Same as canon, Glory spits on Burn, who by pure luck and side sight pulled Scarlet in front of her who had the brunt of her acid. She flies away to bring her soldiers to capture the DoD, while Scarlet is taken away to her palace and the SkyWings chaotically leave the arena. The DoD are freed by Peril and her fireless brother, Meteor, who join them and rescue Kestrel along their way to the Mud Queendom.
Later that day however, Burn has had enough of Scarlet, from the insults to her mother (the only thing that can take Burn out of cool) and her waste of time, Burn murders Scarlet at her very throne room and declares Ruby will be the next SkyWing queen. The rather weak and submissive new SkyWing queen obliges to the demand, but her army is not so fond of she being nothing but a puppet of Burn.
Following canon, Burn wants the DoD, not to murder them, but she isn't exactly inviting them for a tea party either, she wants to make them chose her as queen. She sends search parties through all the Sky and Mud Queendom, but fails to overall locate them, until she grows rather tired and orders the massing of her army to battle again at the Summer Palace, her strategy was simple, if the DoD are fleeing from her, then she must destroy her sisters first, until they are either useless or they chose her.
The Summer Palace battle was a success and I will time skip again because there goes book 2, 3 and 4 where Burn doesn't has much relevance, lets get to book 5.
Now, Burn's interest in weird things is one I often debated with myself either I should remove or not, because its a villainy trait I think makes her character distinguish from others, but it doesn't necessarily helps her case as a fitting queen she portrays herself.
I decided to keep it, but I followed Burn's rather canonical pragmatic side, the DoD can be useful to her, so she will not kill any of them (because doing so would ruin her chances with the others), so she is interested in Sunny oddness, but will not kill her yet.
Addax is a different case, I made him rather kidnap Sunny, not to gift her to Burn, but because one DoD was walking around and he simply couldn't let her escape when this was the greatest chance they ever had to finally locate them.
He brings Sunny to the stronghold, where she meets Smolder and Sandstorm. Now, Sandstorm is a completely different character in my AU, almost worth of his own big lenghty explaination post, because his canon self is an obnoxious and loud dragon, and I literally can not understand why Burn would keep him alive, he didn't even seemed to be particularly useful at all. She would just kill his ass.
But Sandstorm here, he is a kind listener general of hers, and secretly her love interest, but shhh, this is literally something NOBODY have to know, not yet anyways. He has an uncanny calmness to him and is very caring and gentle with Sunny in her stay at the stronghold, similarly to Smolder, he does think twice before locking her in a dungeon, wishing to help his queen reason with Sunny properly.
The main problem comes to... The DoD technically chose Blister. Her manipulation of them was successful, then Sunny, angry for being locked up at the Sky Palace and at Burn and Scarlet, will not be so cordial either, so the tensions are rising up, because the young sandwing will rather die than tell anything even close to the location of the DoD, because she believes Burn (by all Blister's sweet lies) is a monster.
Before Burn's arrival though, Thorn and the Outclaws attacked the palace. An incredibly daring move, no one has besieged the stronghold through the entire length of the war, yet this diverse and desorganized group of idealistic rebels had the daring the IceWings didn't, and the SeaWings never could.
The battle is of course almost a complete disaster for the Outclaws, and Thorn, to save her soldiers, surrenders herself to Sandstorm to reunite with Sunny. After a brief reunion, Burn and her main force had arrived, the hope for their survival was dim, Sunny was desperated, she was not so willing to die as she thought.
Burn meets with them, and Thorn, being a hot-headed almost equal to Burn, snaps snarky comments to each other, things about how Burn left the den to rot at the talons of criminals, and Burn saying she had no choice, the war was more important than some settlement, and Thorn saying she will defend her dragonet from anything she tries.
Thorn however, escalates to the next level. She challenges Burn, not for the throne, but for the right to leave with Sunny unharmed. It could be said the entire stronghold was speechless, but Burn accepted.
Nobody expected this known criminal lord would stand up to Burn, but Thorn was decided she was far better than this, she stopped the criminal scum at the den, she alone stood up when everyone else cowered in fear, and she would do it again.
Through luck and cleverness, Thorn actually holds up to Burn for a while, but her overwhelming strength and fierceness would eventually hit Thorn, sooner or later. In a single charge, she throws Thorn several dozen meters away into the ground, before stomping her heck, ready to deliver the final blow, as old princesses would.
Thorn's eyes had fixed on Burn, filled with regret, for not being strong enough for Sunny, but she wasn't afraid at all, she was angrier than before. Before Burn could do anything, Sunny's desperate cries as she advanced towards them, now being held by the soldiers, begging Burn to not do it, she had a moment to think.
Killing a dragonet's mother as she cries out, was not something Burn would really do. Even if such mother was Thorn, quite literally a thorn on her side, challenging her army since last year. Above that, killing Thorn would make sure the DoD would not chose her at all. (At this point, the DoD have showed their words are more powerful than the talons of any dragon, thus it would not go well for Burn had they stood and against her).
In a rare gesture, not seem quite often, Burn releases Thorn and both of them stand in front of each other. She declares as she won, she will not allow them to leave the stronghold until further orders, but she gives her word she will not harm either of them.
After the situation deescalated, they all entered at the stronghold as the night came, Sunny and Thorn were even offered a dinner with the soldiers, Sandstorm and Smolder, a sign of the things to come. Burn may not throw a party at them, but now she was offering them tea.
Thorn refused to leave Sunny alone at all moments, but time had come for them to meet with Burn, this time, preferrably on different terms. Burn was blunt and direct, she wanted the location of the rest of the DoD, but Sunny refused to speak. Burn's gestures so far were nice, Sunny was almost challenging her beliefs on Blister's lies, but Burn was still too hot headed to lead the SandWings, right?
Sunny tried to distract Burn with a truth, she talked about the NightWing tunnel near her stronghold, to which Burn had snapped in anger, the NightWings were collaborating with Blister all along, not only the prophecy was false, but worse, it was a plot. Sunny was sad to be reminded of that, but at that right moment, she knew better.
Before departing to immediately destroy the tunnel, Burn had reassured Sunny that she was open to speak about any further Blister's lies she had told her. Sunny was not fully ready to have her entire beliefs collapse once again, but she was willing this time, Burn so far had hold all her words truthfully, even at her most angry.
They followed Burn and her soldiers, guiding them to the tunnel, to which Burn immediately ordered her soldiers to put explosives and destroy it, but before they could blow it up, Sunny listened to voices within and she realized, the DoD had come for her.
Clay, Starflight and Glory's heads showed up from the tunnel, in what they could only believe was a trap. Burn was most amused the DoD came right to her, while Sunny tried desperately to calm them down and not make things any worse. Burn had the tunnel destroyed and brought the DoD to the palace, for her, victory was now within her talons.
Burn had a message sent to Tsunami, the last DoD she still doesn't have, ordering she to come there or her friends would be executed. Burn was buffling, but you do not take anything she says as a bluff, ever. Sunny also convinced Burn to include in the message a note to bring Blister with her, as well as sending one to Glacier and Blaze too, calling it a big conference the DoD would make to chose the new queen.
In the meanwhile, Sunny explained all the lies Blister had told them with the help of Burn, to which Starflight with a heavy heart admitted he was tasked to further such lies to them. Now the only DoD who didn't know that was Tsunami, whom was most likely coming with Blister to show Burn a good taste of her own remedy.
Within two days, all the queens and Blister and Blaze reunited at the stronghold, to which immediately tensions rised up. Burn and Blister snarled and hissed at each other while Blaze kept distance. Blister spoke how she wanted to reunite the family after such pointless strife, bringing gifts for both Burn and Blaze.
Despite Blaze believing her, Glacier forbidden she from opening the box, while Burn outright threw the box away, knowing Blister's machinations. Tsunami angrily shouted at them, she still believing Blister had the best intentions and the only one actually trying to do something to end the war. But before the DoD could explain to her, Blister moved to her plan B, she pulled a blowgun and fired two poisonous dart at Burn.
The enormous sandwing fell into the ground, roaring in pain and weakened, a part of Blister's plan, weaken her sister so she may properly kill her. Blister challenged Burn for the throne, and immediately jumped into her. Burn tried to get up but was pinned down by Blister, who adored every second of her sister being helpless.
Both the DoD and the SandWings shouted at Blister for her unfairness at the fight, to which distracted Blister, who hissed back at them, giving Burn enough time to get up and roar at Blister, who cowered in fear at looking her sister back up, in disbelief.
Burn charged at Blister who screamed for her guards to release the dragonbite vipers through the great hall of the palace, her plan C, soon chaos spread through the palace, many dragons stampeding the DoD. Blister herself had left the stronghold with her followers, clearly defeated.
Burn ordered her guards and anyone able to recapture or kill all the dragonbite vipers of the palace. After a hour, they all had been taken down one way or another. Burn weakened but still alive sat down with her sister Blaze, the harmless one. For once in their life, they were on the same side, not only that Blister's awful, but in their hate of dragonbite vipers.
In an unprecedent declaration, Burn spared Blaze, she would restore her titles as princess of the SandWings, and she being overall harmless and not even willing to challenge Burn, would be welcomed back at the palace. For such gesture of good will, the DoD chose Burn as the new SandWing queen and she was crowned a hour later, offically, despite being the de facto queen since 4993 AS.
Blister's escape was unfortunate according to Burn, but she would hunt her down for what she did to the ends of the Earth, which in the first unofficial queens' summit, agreed to declare Blister an enemy of Pyrrhia, to be arrested or executed in all queendoms.
In her last act that day, Burn had declared the DoD, especially Sunny, as heroes of the SandWings and of all Pyrrhia, giving them all a medal and approving Sunny's Jade Academy project, despite overwhelming doubts of its viability.
While Sunny and Burn wouldn't meet for a year, due to Sunny's still recent memories of the events at the stronghold, Starflight's project would open the first way of communication the two had since the conference, and Sunny would finally muster courage to meet Burn again, this time in times of peace.

Crystal's boyfriend (Gharial the Mudwing) makes no sense. According to the books, they met while fighting Blister's forces which implies an alliance between Burn and Blazes forces to battle Blisters which I find unlikely. It would have made more sense if they just made him a sandwing since most of them were allied with the Icewings and Crystal could have met him naturally in the war as they were on the same side. According to the wiki, he was in Blaze's army. What? The Mudwings sided with Burn and they were being forced to fight by the law so I doubt that they cared enough about which one of the sisters ended up the throne to choose sides. Why betray his tribe like this to join an army full of sandwings.
The MudWings were being used as cannon fodder by the other two tribes, as the were the most numerous tribe and could repopulate easily through breeding nights.
Blaze has a reputation as being the "nice queen". I can imagine Gharial watching his sibs die and the SkyWing generals not care, and deciding to take his chances with the "nice queen", even if it means becoming a traitor to the MudWings.

WoF Worldbuilding: Court Positions
The Courts of Pyrrhan and Pantalan royals are made up of many moving parts. A Monarch can't rule on their own!
The court hierarchy is as follows:
Monarch/Queen: Monarch is used for most "queens" who don't identify as female, though Queen is the default. Referred to as "Your Grace/Your Majesty/Queen or Monarch [Name]" King/Queen Consort: Referred to as "Your Grace/Queen or King Consort or Consort [Name]" Royal Family: The monarch's offspring (biological or otherwise) who may or may not hold other positions within the court. Referred to as "Prince/Princess [name]" Royal Advisors: The exact positions depend on the exact kingdom. Referred to as "Advisor [Name]" Generals/Commanders: High-ranking military/guards are often parts of a council held by the Monarch. Referred to as "General [Name]" Lords/Ladies: The family of the Monarch and their Consort, may hold other titles as well. May be aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, etc. Referred to as "Lord/Lady [Name]" Ambassador(s): Referred to as "Ambassador [Name]" Guards: Referred to as just their name Royal Staff: "Servants" as scavengers would call them, though any and all positions within the Courts are valued. Include the cooks, smiths, favored craftsmen/artisans, assistants, etc
Not all courts are built the same, however. For example, the IceWing and NightWing courts follow this structure, while RainWings follow a looser structure.
Below the cut: The ranks for each court
SandWings
Monarch/Queen
King/Queen Consort
Royal Family
Generals/Commanders
Guards
Royal Staff: -> Steward- manages the fortress and directs the other staff -> Monarch's Personal Aid- Assists the monarch in their daily duties -> Head Cook/Cooks- Prepares meals for the fortress residents -> Dragonet Tender- watches over the royal dragonets as well as any dragonets belonging to any other court members
*Being a more harsh community (especially after the War of SandWing Succession), most Monarchs don't hold an advisory council like other tribes, instead tending to rule with a spy/informant network as well as their own knowledge of the territory
MudWings
Monarch/Queen
King/Queen Consort
Royal Family- Unlike other tribes, Advisors, Generals, Guards, and the Steward are chosen from the Monarch's Troop, and are also considered part of the Royal Family. If the Monarch decides to rule with a Consort, the Consort's Troop may be merged with the Monarch's (though to what degree is dependent on the Troop's cohesiveness). If the Troop isn't large enough or is no longer together, other dragons may be put into place

finally finished the designs for all the queens of my fan series!!! I love all of their designs, and I’m so glad I can flesh this world out more :)
some more info on each queen below (and tumblr may have destroyed the quality, so click on the image if you want a better look)⬇️
Tumblr media
Queen Rafflesia is the second oldest queen in Xevenay (my fan continent), and is the current leader of the MudWings. She is described as a very fair and well rounded queen, and is fiercely loyal and dedicated to running her tribe. She may not be as young and spry as when she was younger, but she’ll do anything to make sure her tribe is safe, happy, and strong. Rafflesia and her sib group are currently working on repairing the damage done to her tribe’s territory after the Hive Takeover (a war that resulted in most of her tribe abandoning their land when they were attacked by HiveWings). The next queen in line is going to be Rose Mallow (her granddaughter).
Tumblr media
Queen Lapis is the current queen of the SeaWings, and has stepped into her role quite smoothly. After the death of Queen Tuna due to old age, Lapis was deemed fit for queenhood, and is a complete natural. She is the twin of Princess/General Lazuli, and is the complete opposite of her fierce, ambitious sister. Lapis is fair, calm-minded, rational, and a very intelligent dragon. Many SeaWings are relieved that she was chosen as the next queen rather than Lazuli, as although Lazuli is an amazing general and a fierce warrior, she wouldn’t be quite fit for queenhood—unlike Lapis. There has been no current heir picked, as Lapis is a fairly new Queen and is still young and healthy.
Tumblr media
Queen Tangerine is the current queen of the RainWings, and is pretty different from the previous two discussed. She is short-tempered, easily annoyed, and likes things to stay consistent. Dragonets are probably her least favourite thing in the world, but luckily her heirs have been raised by her husband and wife—who are way better at taking care of dragonets than her. She is proudly polyamorous, and loves all her partners dearly. Despite all of her flaws, she has been a pretty popular queen throughout her ruling; at least by pure RainWings—hybrids aren’t too fond of her due to her distaste of them. The next queen in line is going to be Kiyomi (her daughter).
Tumblr media
Queen Dusk is the current queen of the SandWings, and is an often overlooked queen. It’s not that she’s boring or weak or anything like that, it’s just that she hasn’t done anything too significant during her ruling. She did offer sanctuary to many SandWings who were affected by the Hive Takeover (as the HiveWings did encroach on Sand Kingdom territory, but didn’t end up taking much land due to harsh conditions), and sent out many military units to help defend her borders and other neighbouring kingdoms (such as the Mud Kingdom and Sky Kingdom). Other than her contributions to the most recent conflicts, she hasn’t done much, and is a pretty solitary queen who enjoys music and writing. The next queen in line is going to be Ringtail (her cousin (in my universe, cousins are able to become queens)).
Tumblr media
Queen Dreamcatcher is the oldest queen on the continent, and is the current queen of the NightWings. In her long life, she has been through many hardships and battles, but despite all that, she is a very kind and generous queen. She almost single-clawedly repaired her tribe after a rough ruling from her grandmother, and due to this, she is quite popular with not only the NightWing tribe, but the other neighbouring tribes too. Maybe it’s the age getting to her, or maybe she’s always been like this, but Dreamcatcher has always been the most lax of all the queens on rules and regulations. Nowadays, her ruling is split between her, her husband, and her granddaughter (and future ruler) Hopefulsight.
Tumblr media
Queen Topaz is the current queen of the SkyWings, although she wishes she wasn’t. Before her ruling, her sister, Queen Redtail, ruled the SkyWings amazingly, and was popular with all the tribes. But after being killed in a battle during the Hive Takeover, Topaz was forced to step in as the next queen quite unexpectedly. Due to this, Topaz is a very bitter and angry dragon, and often takes out her frustrations on her servants and royal councillors. The only dragon Topaz seems to tolerate is Queen Lapis—in fact, they were formerly very close friends and clawmates at Jewel Mountain Academy before they both had to step into their royal roles more. There is no current heir picked, as Topaz refuses to appoint one.
Tumblr media
Queen Floe is the current leader of the IceWings, and is a queen you should definitely not mess with. She is wicked smart, and thanks to her extensive knowledge and large council, makes her a formidable opponent and a very intimidating dragon. However, she isn’t a terrible dictator or something like that. She’s surprisingly fair and respectful, and takes the time to work out any intertribal conflicts with grace and precision. Outside of her tribe though, she can be quite prickly and hard to get to know, and isn’t afraid to stand up for what she wants. The next queen in line is going to be Larna (her niece).
Tumblr media
Queen Sunflower is the newest appointed queen in Xevenay, and her road to queendom has been quite a rough one. She was the one to kill the previous queen of the HiveWings—her mother, Queen Cadmium—after she went on a crazy power trip and started the Hive Takeover. She was almost killed by Cadmium, and was left with a scarred face, a mangled ear, and a broken horn. Since then, the HiveWings have been slowly rebuilding their tribe and paying their respects to the other tribes that had been damaged during the war—and all of this burden lays on poor Sunflower. She is very different than the average HiveWing, as she is much more considerate and kind, but that is a welcome change after the tyrant that was Cadmium. She has appointed Princess Ladybug as an heir in case things go wrong, but it is very unlikely that anyone will challenge Queen Sunflower.
Tumblr media
Queen Azure is the current queen of the SilkWings, and is the definition of SilkWing stereotypes. She’s an often overlooked queen due to her softness and dislike of conflict, but to her, that’s perfectly fine. She’s a very agreeable queen, and is always willing to lend a claw to other tribes if they need help or resources. As a result, she’s been taken advantage of by quite a few other queens, and her council is often frustrated by her inability to set firm boundaries. She also has a fondness for humans, and makes sure Moorlands (the human town in SilkWing territory) is doing well and isn’t being targeted by other human-hating dragons. The next queen in line is going to be Claudina (her cousin).
Tumblr media
Queen Acorn is the current queen of the LeafWings, and has had a rough time with her rule. During her early years as queen, she had to work with the NightWings quite extensively in order to prevent a full-blown war (it’s a very long story involving animus abuse and dragons possessing others lol), and even implemented a rule stating that animus dragons cannot be used like tools by their queens, and that abuse against animi is forbidden. Nowadays, Acorn is a secluded queen, preferring to keep LeafWing business to themselves and overall being a polite but distant figure of authority. The next queen in line is going to be Briar.
Tumblr media
Queen Raven is the current queen of the RoostWings, and is one of my personal favourites. She’s gone through a lot during her short life as queen, but she’s handled it very well. From setting up the new Roostwing territory after fleeing their old home, to dealing with 11 other tribes that the RoostWings have never interacted with or even knew of their existence until recently, she’s been through it. However, she’s remarkably resilient and good-hearted, and just wants what’s best for her tribe and family. There are no current heirs old enough to be considered for the throne, but she’s planning on having eggs soon, and has a niece of her own who seems promising.
Tumblr media
Last but certainly not least, Queen Emerald. She’s the current queen of the CaveWings, and has only recently become a somewhat unpopular queen. Before the CaveWing Emergence, she was respected and well liked by all CaveWings due to her desire to keep the CaveWing communities healthy and safe, and her plans to expand their underground home into more sustainable territory. However, after the CaveWings were rediscovered and emerged to live alongside “the surface dwellers”, Emerald’s old ways started to make change and adaptation harder, and a number of dragons believed that a new queen that wanted the CaveWings to mingle with the other tribes and was more willing to work with other tribes would be more desirable. Emerald hasn’t caught onto these rumours yet, but luckily she has an heir—Princess Tsavorite—that would replace her if anything… unfortunate… were to happen.

(Wings of fire hermitcraft fic)
Our knowledge of animus magic has been limited for quite a long time. Some time, long ago, IceWings developed a very strange power. They created a way to prevent their animus dragons from going evil, using their power once as a gift for the tribe.
It is said that an animus dragon loses his or her soul the more they use their powers. Examples include Albatross of the SeaWings in the Royal SeaWing Massacre, Darkstalker near the end of the old story of why the NightWings fled their kingdom, Jerboa, and Queen Diamond of the IceWings, who used her magic more than once. However, my own idea is that the magic itself doesn’t affect the soul, but the use of it does.
This is a list of known animus dragons in history that I will discuss:Albatross of the SeaWings Prince Arctic of the IceWings Fathom of the SeaWings Turtle of the SeaWings Anemone of the SeaWings And our current animus: Zombie Cleo of the RainWings and SandWings.
Albatross was the SeaWings' first animus, and might even be descended from IceWings. He badly hurt his sister, Sapphire, by enchanting a shell to rip her claws off. His other sister, Queen Lagoon, had him make many animus-touched items for her, including an entire pavilion. He went crazy and killed a lot of the royal family before being killed by Indigo, Fathom's future wife. All his life, Albatross had been bitter and guilty. Lagoon’s punishment was to make whatever she asked for. He looked strange as well. His snapping could have been a result of his life, not his magic.
A theory I have is that the magic doesn’t make animus dragons evil, but when you use magic for evil, you are more tempted to use it that way.
Knowing you can do anything is a lot to carry. But if Albatross had lived a less bitter, guilt-ridden life, if Lagoon hadn't used his magic as a punishment, he might have lived a more normal, less bloody life.
Fathom had made an oath to never use his magic, but he used it more than once. As far as we know, he only used it once to stop Darkstalker, but he might have used it more.
Turtle and Anemone used their magic a lot, and neither of them turned evil. Their intentions were good. Both had hurt dragons, but never felt like they would do it again. If animus magic hadn’t vanished during their generation, they might have done much more good.
Prince Arctic was bitter and used his magic more than once. But, he wasn’t truly evil. He betrayed the NightWings once his wife was "killed." However, he never used his magic for anything more than a spell on Whiteout.
Our animus is her own dragon; no one tells her how to use her magic or on what, but she has used it a lot. Before she joined us and after. She has never shown signs of turning evil.
Transcript:
Docm: You've used a lot of magic. Most dragons would think you've completely lost your soul—you’ve used more than most animus dragons that have gone crazy.
Cleo: Really? Well, my soul feels fine. I don’t believe I’ve lost it. Yet. I mostly use my magic for little things, you know? A sculpture here, a light source there, a small favor for a friend. Nothing big. Well, other than that tunnel only Hermits can find to lead here—that was a big one. I felt a bit cold after using it, but I think that’s just how using magic feels. I feel chills every time but haven’t thought about killing anyone yet… Maybe Grian, or Joe.
Docm: Do you think you'll lose your soul if you used it to kill dragons?
Cleo: Never thought of that. I mean, it'd be easy. A thought, and a dragon—or dragons—die. Especially now that we know you can just enchant a dragon itself instead of having to use an object. But I feel like… I don’t know, knowing how easy it’d be to kill would make you want to kill.
Docm: Was there anyone you wanted to kill before joining us?
Cleo: Maybe my mother. She did try to kill me once she found out I was an animus. Maybe she was raised by SkyWings or something. But I’m not going to. What would that prove? "Hah! I killed you for almost killing me that one time! Despite you being a loving and kind mother all my life. That’ll show you!" Yeah, that doesn't seem satisfying.

Memoir of an Albatross
Chapter 3 - Selling One's Soul
[1] [2] [3] [4]
Tumblr media
(Art by Loquatic)
Chapter Description: Years after that traumatic day, Albatross finds himself preoccupied with his thoughts in the library. Life, while not certainly great, could be a lot worse. Princess Lagoon seems to believe otherwise.
Animus magic: a concept that seems far too mystical and powerful to be a reality, and yet here we are, living among dragons with endless potential. Spellcasters. Gods with grand, sacred blood in their veins. Reality bends to their will. At a mere thought, a mere enchantment, they can do anything.
And that terrified Albatross. He was afraid. He knew what it– what he was capable of.
Nothing had been the same since the incident on the beach. A few minutes after Albatross had saved Sapphire, royal guards swooped down to investigate. They saw the blood-stained water and found the dragonets there. Had he hesitated, Sapphire would've bled out entirely before they arrived.
Even if she survived, she was gone. For four years, he only had one sister. She was sent off to a cave far off in the corner of the Sea Kingdom. Hidden. A shameful secret forever locked away.
Sapphire since the incident was rendered "useless" in the eyes of her parents. She couldn't write anymore. She couldn't fight or defend herself as she needed assistance to hold spears. Since it happened, she had been isolating herself and lashing out more. Queen Gannet insisted that it was her going mad. That Albatross harming her in such a violent and drastic way had destroyed her mind.
He remembered watching Sapphire when she had an outburst. Her eyes held a look he knew all too well. She was lucid. Sane. She was afraid. Scared. Full of spite and anger at her circumstances. She was trying to cope.
But, she was a liability to the kingdom in their mother's eyes. And now she's gone.
The story that their parents have been telling the masses is that Sapphire had an incident with a shark. They knew the truth. But, they couldn't tell the public. That would have tainted their reputation. Imagine what the dragons, SeaWings and other tribes alike, would have thought. The SeaWings have found their animus, but it was discovered through mutilating another. It would have tainted their perfect reputation, the image that their mother, Queen Gannet, had built.
Because of Albatross, he had ruined Sapphire's life. She would've become queen. She would've lived a nice, happy life. All because he overreacted. She probably didn't mean it when she said all those things. She was playing around. Trying to scare him. She didn't mean it. It's...it's all his fault.
He had since then buried himself in research into animus magic. It was the one thing he could do. These days, he found himself in the complicated hallways of the Deep Palace library, sifting through scroll after scroll. The guards gave him strange looks. Most weren't aware of the truth either. They had only known the fabricated lie that Queen Gannet told everyone. He couldn't care less. He needed to learn more about this curse of his.
Frustratingly enough, the scrolls said little about it other than surface-level observations and myths. Magic powers that could be passed on through generations. The only tribes who currently have their magic are the SandWings and IceWings, as the SkyWings had genocided their own animi many moons ago. Rightfully fearful of what they could do.
The magic seemed limitless. Animi could transmute rocks into precious gemstones, manipulate the minds of others, and hypothetically cataclysmic destruction. For as much as the IceWings love to flaunt their glorious wall built from little more than the imagination and will of an animus, there were just as many tales of mad animus dragons. Ones who caused an upheaval in the Sky Kingdom. Ones who've brought chaos.
And here was little Albatross, who was still too scared to look at his talons for fear that the blood of Sapphire was still stained on them.
He refused to use his magic since that day. Constantly he was trying to regulate and control his thoughts. Even thinking about casing a spell would do it. He was anxious that one day he would have one stray thought, get caught up in his own emotions when all of a sudden boom! The whole palace- the whole world explodes. Would it be possible? Probably given that there doesn't seem to be any rules or restraints for this magic.
The only drawbacks of animus magic were two things: a myth about the magic draining the soul of the user, corrupting them and twisting them into some evil, horrid version of themselves, and another tale of animi losing physical parts of themselves. Some sort of physical impairment. They're rare and only happen to the ones who use their magic the most, however.
Albatross already decided that he would never use his magic again for the rest of his life. There was no amount of convincing somebody could put him through to make him. Absolutely nothing.
Then, from behind him, he heard the sound of shifting water.
Maybe he was just more jumpy since the incident, but he could've sworn his hearing had gotten better. Even if it was a dead silent room, he could almost always make out some sort of white noise. The movement of fish around him. The heavy pressure of the water. Even his own heartbeat and breathing.
He heard that noise loud and clear; so much so that he knew exactly who it was.
Albatross. The bright glow of Lagoon's bioluminescent scales lit up in the corner of his eye. Being underwater, their vocal cords can't exactly work. Brilliantly enough, they had a solution for this. Using their scales, they could light up certain parts of their body, communicating in a language dubbed "aquatic".
Albatross was never particularly gifted with it– his scales never quite lit up as well as the average SeaWing– but it worked in a pinch. Hopefully whatever Lagoon wanted to say was quick. Some half-hearted jest tossed his way before swimming back with her tail between her legs.
He turned to face her, still clutching his scroll. Do you need something? He flashed his neck and tail scales.
Was I interrupting you? Her response was explicitly passive-aggressive.
No, I-
It doesn't matter anyway. She waved her talons, dismissing him. We have a bigger problem.
...we do?
Yes! Of course, you kelp-brained- She paused, collecting herself. Sorry. I'm rather emotional.
Aren't you always?
Don't joke right now, this is serious! It's about Sapphire. Her scales dimmed at that last part.
His eyes widened. What do you mean?
You can't tell me you agree with what happened to her, right?
He looked down at his claws. A feeling of guilt washed over him. No, I don't.
Obviously, yeah. It's the right way to feel about it.
And you just wanted to make sure I was feeling the 'right way' about it? he asked.
Lagoon hesitated. Her eyes looked past him. Of course not! Don't be ridiculous. I'm only having a conversation with you. Why would you think of me like that?
I wasn't! Just... Albatross rubbed his eyes. Get to the point. Please.
Sapphire doesn't deserve this. Lagoon began to pace back and forth. How heartless could our parents be?! Sapphire isn't mad. You and I both know this. She was only hurt by you cutting off all of her claws. She was scared because of it. Because of it, now she's on some distant island. She glanced back at Albatross. You know exactly what this is.
Albatross blinked.
Tyranny! Lagoon answered for him. This is exactly the sort of thing that we learned about in ruling lessons. Learning from the horrible monarchs of the past and how their mistakes eventually led to their downfall. Being too reckless with orders, exploiting their own citizens for personal benefit, making random and rash decisions that end up harming the tribe in the end, you know all that stuff.
No, I don't. I'm a prince. I don't take these lessons.
Well, perhaps you should. Even if you'll never be king, you're still royalty. Perhaps when I'm queen I'll implement it as a new rule.
He scoffed. Yeah, in a couple decades that is.
Lagoon cracked a cocky smirk like she had been waiting for him to say it. Well, what if we didn't have to wait that long?
What? Wait. Wait... No, nononono, you aren't thinking it, are you? You are. You definitely are.
Lagoon nodded. C'mon, brother! All I have to do is challenge her to the throne, win, and then we can get her back.
You're only six years old! Not even an adult yet!
Uh-huh, and?
You're suggesting that you kill our mother, Lagoon.
Never in a million years had Albatross thought he would see a dragon challenge the throne, much less Lagoon. And yet, he wasn't terribly surprised to see her suggest it.
Lagoon detested Queen Gannet the moment she hatched from the egg. Hushed whispers that only grew more intense and angry as the years went on. Critical of every tiny choice she made, insisting that, had she been in the same position, she would've gone for the other, "better" option.
Albatross found it to be petty garbled nonsense when he was younger. He saw it as little more than Lagoon being haughty and believing herself to be more intelligent and proper than their mother. Her ego blinded her. Their mother was only a dragon after all. Prone to the same mistakes as anybody else. He felt pity when she was forced with a tough decision while Lagoon snorted and went on about how she obviously should have done something else.
These days though? He was upset at Queen Gannet. Not angry per se– he hated the idea of feeling such a strong, malicious emotion with his capabilities– but rather solemn disapproval. Denial and distraught that she could do such a thing to Sapphire. She was scared! She was dealing with trauma from that awful day.
He knew she wasn't right to rule the moment she abandoned Sapphire. Exiled her to isolation. And for what? Appearances? Shame? Fear that every dragon on Pyrrhia would look down on her for allowing her own deformed son to mutilate the heir to her throne? Whatever it may be, he couldn't forgive her.
But he couldn't imagine Lagoon being any better. He didn't need to consult a NightWing prophet to see that.
Hellloooooo? Lagoon flashed her scales exceedingly bright. Am I boring you or what?
Albatross shook his head. Sorry, I was thinking about things.
Like what, exactly? She snorted.
That this is a terrible idea.
What?! Lagoon's scales were harsh. They agitated Albatross's eyes. What do you mean?
You're...six! You're young! How could you even suggest that?
Look. Lagoon took a deep breath. What is the alternative?
He paused. We...wait another three decades? Maybe four? Five?
Exactly! That's the issue! Our mother needs to be taken out.
Why? Why does she need to?
Lagoon narrowed her eyes. Her scales brightened. Don't kid yourself here, brother. You KNOW what she's done. She's terrible! Awful! By the tides, she's the worst queen this kingdom has seen. Her relations with the SkyWings and MudWings are atrocious. Don't even get me started on the RainWings. If she is in power for another year, given how things are, we'll be at war.
That's ridiculous, Lagoon.
Is it? She snapped. Is it really? Look. It's simply awful. I need your help. I know I'm weak, but I know I will be a better ruler than our mother. She's erratic and impulsive. Me? I'm calm. Collected. She noticed Albatross's scales begin to light up. And don't you dare accuse me of not being that! You know I've changed since we were dragonets.
He stayed silent.
Not to also mention that very incident itself... Moons above, if the public knew about what our mother had done to our sister, our very own Princess Sapphire, she'd been dragged out into the streets and gutted. She's monstrous. For that reason alone, she should be dead.
I don't know...
Albatross. You of all dragons should know what it feels. You were the one who did this to her.
He visibly flinched. Any mention of that event always sent a shock through his system. Even if the moment had long since passed, those memories were fresh in his mind. He couldn't get those screams and all that blood out of his head.
So, what will you do? Lagoon asked. Are you just going to stand there and let our tyrannical mother continue her oppressive rule, or will you help me? The choice is pretty simple to me. Either be useless while your sister rots away because of what you've done to her, or at least try to make up for it by killing her. Once I'm queen, I'll do everything in my power to bring her back. I promise.
He looked up into her eyes. You promise?
She grinned. Of course.
He exhaled. Fine. What do you need?
Lagoon's barely contained excitement showed through her scales and swishing tail. Okay, okay. I just need you to enchant...this! She pulled off a pearl bracelet. Enchant this to make it so that I will win any battle I face against with no real harm done to my body. She placed it into Albatross's talons.
He looked at the string of pearls. They glistened in the low lighting. I'm not so sure about this... A pit formed in his stomach. It had been so long since he last used it. He had vowed never to again.
Oh come on! One little spell won't hurt! After this, no more magic, okay?
Albatross clenched his talons into a fist. He repeated the exact spell that Lagoon had told him. She would win any battle with little damage done to her.
The tips of his claws tingled as he made the spell. The bracelet carried a new energy to it, one that he felt uncomfortable to be near. Animus enchantments tended to have that effect, wherein anything that had a spell on it held an ominous and strange aura of wrongness. This time, it was faint.
He pawed it off to Lagoon. There. Take it. It's done.
How do I know you've done it?
I have. Just go. I don't want to see what happens. Just...tell your guards to spread the message of her death once it happens. He turned back to the scrolls. I'd rather not see for myself what happens.
Lagoon dipped her head. You have my word. Thank you, Albatross. She smiled as she swam off.
Albatross watched as she disappeared back into the palace. He felt positively terrible. His scales felt slimy and uncomfortable to be in. How could he do something like that? Once before, he had used his magic to almost kill Sapphire. Now? He's using it to kill his very own mother. How could he do that?
...well, there was the slight, tiny chance that he would be redeemed. That, maybe, this was the last time he would ever use it. That, soon enough, things would return to some sort of normalcy. He would be treated like a normal dragon, animus magic or not. That was what he had hoped for the future. It must be what happens.

More SWR WoF AU
because i am going insane
Part One- https://www.tumblr.com/keeper-of-sparkly-things/774307778317762561/swr-wof-crossover-au
and under the cut because i get the feeling that this is going to be long
I’m going to just go in order of the ghost crew again but more in depth with the actual world around each of them
Kanan
I’m gonna talk a bit about the jedi order first. Obviously in this au they do not have the force, all the notably force sensitive people will be an animus instead. This does not actually change the structure of the order all that much
They still generally worked with the Republic before their downfalls, and therefore in the war they did fight with the clones and all that. They have a school, and very similar to canon they do take in all animus children from willing parents. People are generally willing because even disregarding things like bounty hunter s and slavers, having an animus without a working brain around is dangerous, and sending them to a place with people both like them and capable or repairing collateral damage was deemed smart (because in canon i think it was Albatross? Who as a dragon toddler and before his power was recognized got his sister claws bitten off by a shell and then she went insane because of it. Its because of that). Marriage is not banned but is heavily regulated, to keep track of all possible animus’s. It is important to note that animus magic has been nerfed and one of palpatines goals is to “fix” that
Now back to the character in question, Kanan. Leafwing, animus, jedi until order 66, formerly apprenticed to leaf/night hybrid master Depa Billaba, finds himself wandering around pyrrhia trying to avoid detection, and ultimately ends up north of the sky kingdom in a town called Gorse and working in the muddy mines for explosive crystals. Just like canon, hera happens, they cause problems for the empire, he joins her crew. He is like 8 years old, manages to keep his animus magic a secret for a while, though he does use his leafspeak liberally
2. Hera
her father Cham was a sandwing war hero, supported by Eleni, a silkwing whose family had actually been in the sand kingdom for a couple generations. When the empire rose, they started fighting quickly, staying only in the sand kingdom though, and occasionally beating up the silkwing slave trade (since the continental bridge connects to the end of it in some places). Hera got in a fight with Cham when Eleni died in a mission, feeling that they could have been doing more widespread work with their resources. Cham doesn’t actually care that much and wants his kingdom taken care of fully first, so when Hera grew her wings (not long after her mother died and their fight) she left, getting contact with the wider rebellion and becoming a traveling rebel (though her home base is still in the desert, but far away from her father). She meets kanan about a year after this
3. Chopper
it was very common for the jedi for create thing using their magic, think Blob from the darkstalker novel. It was especially popular in the war to have magic pets to do some more menial things, or depending on the type, to help them fight. Chopper was technically a fighting octopus, though small and having not been in too many battles before his creator died. Hera found and cleaned him up, partially because of the novelty of having an octopus of any sort, but also because she just wanted to help him. He kinda sorta imprinted on her after his creator died but he still has violent tendencies, though if Hera is the one asking, he’ll do chores too. He cannot change colors, and doesn’t like sitting still to get painted but he eventually tolerates it
4. Zeb
He was captain of the guard of one of the major cities in the Ice kingdom. The nobles in charge were rumored to have been sympathetic to the rebellion. Usually that doesn’t lead to drastic action on the Empires part, usually they would just imprison and replace them, but since those specific icewings were neutral in the clonewar, and or generational rivalry between ice and nightwings, they decided to just do away with the entire city plus some of the surrounding ones. Due to budget cuts (downsizing hundreds of star wars species into ten types of dragons) it wasn’t all the icewings that got genocided, just like, a very large chunk. Zeb, being the only survivor of the targeted areas, fled to the sand kingdom, where he got kidnapped into the ghost crew due to magic comforts bribery. This is about a year after kanan joins Heras crew.
5. Sabine
Darkstalker at some point mention that the rainwings used to generally be renowned assassins. Queen Glory did not want to go back to that, but did want to have the rainwings capable of self defense. Except in the many following generations more rainwings heard of the warrior stories and thought it would be cool. So now theres about half of the rainwing tribe that are fearsome warriors. Sabine is part of one other these groups. She doesn’t live in the rainforest though. The tribes, before the war and the empire at least, were more spread out than in the books. The Wren clan actually lives in the weird border between the sky and ice kingdom. Its still fairly sunny (in summer at least) but it is also cold and by sabines visual standards, she much prefers the rainforest from her visits. They did also invent insulated armor, though that doesn’t stop her complaining about how cold the ice kingdom gets, and she doesn’t have a full set anyway by the time of rebels because she couldn’t get more beskar after she left and had to reforge it to still fit at all. She fights with parents, goes to an imperial academy, leaves imperial academy and becomes a bounty hunter with her friend Ketsu the Skywing, get betrayed and nearly dies, and then is saved by the ghost crew, and healed specifically by kanans magic. She is wary of them but decides to stay with them when kanan gives her like a eternally replenishing paint or something. Thats about a little under a year after Zeb joined. She think the sand kingdom is also visually boring most if the time
6. Ezra!
i already rambled a lot about him in my original post, but heres round two! He is born to Ephraim (Hivewing) and Mira (high status Silkwing). They worked closely with the silkwing government before and during the clone wars, and were legally married. Once the empire took over and outlawed cross tribe marriage (guilty), (hybrid dragons (guilty because of Ezra), unregulated flamesilks (guilty), and animus descendants reproducing freely (guilty), they faked paperwork to get divorced (didn’t act divorced very well) and backed off from the government to keep themselves and they son safe. This worked for a couple years, but while traveling over the cross continental bridge to get to pyrrhia to get to some contacts, they were stopped and then arrested by a patrol. Ezra, like 2 years old and goofing off, was safe ish and not arrested, but still 2 and alone for the first time and also on a bridge in the middle of the ocean. He slowly crosses it by hiding in the luggage of other passing groups, but ends up in pyrrhia instead of pantala, and deciding it was too dangerous to try to go back, consigns himself to just wandering until he finds a safe place. Unintentionally using the help of animus magic that he does know he has, he slowly crosses the sand kingdom until he hits the scorpion den, where he stays in a small cave just a little out of town (old animus tunnel but filled in and he does nothing to change that) and hangs out there for a while, until his shenanigans and the ghost crews shenanigans collide and Spark of the Rebellion happens. Kanan first notices something might be off for he see a four year old dragonet jump really high without wings of any kind, and it’s basically immediately confirmed when zeb and ezra start fighting once they are out of danger and Ezra spits out something about Zeb being ugly and purple and his scales immediately change to the most ugly, eye-scorching shade of purple in existence, he quite literally looks like he became a rainwing. Ezra, doing complex reasonings in his head, understands how dangerous that kind of thing is, and runs away. And basically immediately ruins their mission and gets captured. Canon happens, he gets back safely, kanan offers to teach him and Voila! Dragon family acquired!

Wings of Fire thoughts continued: Talons Of Power Edition
I've heard that Arc 3 has Animus magic get totally shut down for everyone and I can kind of see why? I think giving it basically no limits on its functionality other than "If you use it too much you might go crazy but we're not sure" and who gets their cheesy counteraction spell on another animus off first was probably a mistake, as was the "Actually you can totally just directly put a spell on another dragon" thing. I think the general idea of a magic system where everything has to work off an object is a good idea, but I'd like to see things like Darkstalker needing to social-engineer his way into getting other dragons to accept items that have Trojan Spells and doing obnoxious things like enchanting items to be invisible while worn so everyone has a headache trying to figure out how he's doing it. Make him a threat because his prophecy makes him really good at anticipating the countermeasures to his magic, not just "I have a blanket Charm spell up at all times."
I'm also not a huge fan of the "Turtle made Anemone an Animus" thing. I think it's more impactful if he can never know the truth. Also cool: if Turtle was sure it was his fault she was an Animus for a while because "What are the odds that after centuries of zero Seawing animus dragons, suddenly TWO dragons turn out to have the power?" and then after everyone found out Orca was also an Animus it was like, if there were two there's no reason why there couldn't be three.
...Anemone is certainly a case study in why encouraging 2-year-old dragonets to use magic is a bad idea. Poor kid's going through it. I think her having a Villain Arc out of pure intoxication-of-power plus thinking it's inevitable and deciding to kill her whole family is one of the less interesting things that could've been done with the premise, though. I would have rather seen her cause serious damage with a well-intentioned spell because she worded it wrong or didn't think through what it would do, or Darkstalker fed her phrasing that would make her spell do something horrible, and then Turtle was forced to out himself as an Animus to stop her / tell her how to deactivate a spell, and Anemone lost it at him and him specifically, because she realized that her entire life her older brother could have prevented so much of what she went through, or done something about so many of her unborn sisters being murdered, but chose not to.
Horrible fucked up thought: imagine if Darkstalker tricked Anemone into casting his Icewing Genocide Plague spell for him because he foresaw that if he cast it himself it would be countered pretty quickly. Like what if he gave her instructions for a spell to make "All those who are sworn enemies of the Nightwing Tribe" sick as a "practical joke" and a "test of her powers," and worded it in a way that she didn't have the medical knowledge to know the symptoms he described could be fatal or made her word the spell to replicate some disease she hadn't heard of? And this eventually still fails because Darkstalker forgot Anemone existed so he couldn't anticipate a future where she turned it off. He did detect her casting the counterspell but he knew that some random Sandwing showed up for about a second when he cast the "Summon every animus dragon" spell so he was like "well I caught the missing rogue Animus (Turtle), I bet I scared that random sandwing so much she put up a protection spell, which is a problem for later."

Frigid - male IceWing soldier in the First Circle, secretly Queen Brumal's lover. After Queen Brumal's death, he is forced to continue his role while also trying to keep his children with Brumal a secret, thinking it could cause him to be demoted in the Circles. He wants Ghiaccio to become king so he can continue to keep his secret.
Hyacinth and Snakeroot - duo LeafWing (PoisonWing) couple, Hyacinth is female and Snakeroot is male. Their love isn't exactly forbidden, they were happy that their marriage was arranged, but they flee to Pyrrhia and get caught in the war just trying to live peacefully without any SapWing and PoisonWing tension. Their children are Ash and Sycamore. Hyacinth's sister Arnica is furious with her sister for leaving and she and her husband Foxglove become major antagonists.
Ghiaccio - male IceWing, Brumal's cousin who hated the royal life and fled. Due to Frigid and Brumal's relationship being secret, Frigid wants to find Ghiaccio to take the throne so his secret is not exposed. However, Ghiaccio fled and lived in the abandoned Night Kingdom, where he finds a shiny amulet that gives him visions, and flees to Pantala to escape Pyrrhian drama, where he meets Julia and Pollen. Eventually travels back to Pyrrhia with the two to help end the war after he discovers more knowledge.
Julia - a female SilkWing living in Honeycomb Hive. Besties with Pollen, a HiveWing. Helps Ghiaccio with his Pyrrhian trauma (tm) and gets him settled into Pantalan life. Goes on a journey with Ghiaccio and Pollen back to Pyrrhia to help end the war with the shiny necklace that causes trauma (tm).
Earthquake - male MudWing soldier who just wants to be a dad to his kids, but his mate took the kids. Determined to find more about the cause of the war and to get more involved in his kids' life. Becomes best buds with Treefrog, who unbeknownst to him is actually the RainWing prince Radiance in disguise.
Radiance - male RainWing prince, is disappointed in his mother's choice to not affiliate herself with the war, escapes the Rainforest Kingdom and disguises himself as a MudWing named Treefrog to be able to fight in the war, becoming best buds with Earthquake.
I think there are a few more I am missing, shrug shrug
thank u for coming to my tedtalk, expect some more lore dumps about the characters and stuff later

Tac's OC Ref Masterposts 4: Tertiary OCs
See my other ref posts here: Sonas, Primaries, Secondaries
I wanted to have a series of posts where people can find all of my characters in one place! Since I have too many to fit them all into one post, I decided to split them up based on how much I use them/how developed they are, the same way they're split up on my Toyhouse.
I wanted to have their refs here so people can find them relatively easily and not have to go digging through their Toyhouse galleries to find them lol. If anyone ever wants to draw them, you are very much encouraged to do so!! Same goes for asks about my characters! Those are always welcome as well!!
These will have some general information about each of my characters, but if you want to see more about them in depth, each character's Toyhouse page will also be linked! If/when I update any particular characters' ref in the future, that will be updated here as well ^^
Will also include each character's theme song because I like showing those off too :3
See my tertiary OCs here below the cut!
TERTIARY OCS
These characters are the ones I tend to use the most infrequently. They generally don't have a huge amount of developed character or information, but there is still some there. A few have interactions with my other Wings of Fire OCs (again, much like my secondaries, these are all WoF based characters) but not all of them do. I do still value them to some degree, hence why I keep them around, but they generally just sorta do their own thing haha
Tumblr media
Cenote [Toyhouse Link]
PackWing (WoF Fantribe)
Name is pronounced Seh-noh-Tay
Lives in the forest and has a lot of knowledge about herbs and plants and stuff
Spends so much time in the woods that the smell tends to follow him wherever he goes
Markings and stuff can be simplified if needed lol
Theme Song: Dear Fellow Traveler by Sea Wolf
Tumblr media
Chernobyl [Toyhouse Link]
NightWing/SandWing hybrid
Used to be the king of a fantribe I had made called FissionWings, which is why he has his floaty crown
Orange stripe along his flank is highly radioactive
The spots on his wings flicker with little sparks of radiation
Generally cold and stoic, usually keeps to himself
Theme Song: Livin' On The Edge by Aerosmith
Tumblr media
South [Toyhouse Link]
Melanistic IceWing
Named to contrast all of the IceWing OCs named North lmao
Youngest/smallest of all my dragon OCs
Very innocent and happy since he's still pretty young
Love to play with his friends
Theme Song: Daylight by Matt & Kim
Tumblr media
StrangeEvidence [Toyhouse Link]
NightWing with weak future seeing powers
Based on the terrible Science Channel show of the same name [I have no shame]
Tries to interpret his visions but goes like, way overboard and sounds ridiculous in the process
When they turn out to be something totally mundane, he's just like  "alright, so that's what that's about. Hm, neat" and walks away
Theme Song: It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M.
Tumblr media
Sunrise [Toyhouse Link]
SkyWing
Also fairly young, but older than South (like what would be tween age in humans)
Kind of a ditz and lacks any kind of inhibition, which sometimes gets her into trouble
Adoptive younger sister to Magma, who often helps her out of the trouble she gets herself into
Theme Song: We Like To Party! by The Vengaboys
Tumblr media
Tōhoku [Toyhouse Link]
SeaWing/SandWing hybrid
Lives by the beach
Loves to cook and owns a snack shack by the ocean
Very chill, would probably host a surfing contest
Theme Song: Ocean Man by Ween

26 + 13 + 16 for wof asks! also hi its qibilette hehe
26. Hopes for a new legends book?
RANDOM BACKGROUND SOLIDER POV DURING THE WAR GRAUUHHH!!!!!! I am desperate for some content of a dragon Not involved with any royal family. I need it so bad. Do I think it's gonna happen? Not at all. Do I have hope? yeah :) I specifically would really love to see a book split 3 perspectives of a Sandwing in Blaze's army, a Sandwing in Burn's army, and a Sandwing in Blister's army with a prolog from Six-Claws and an epilog from modern Blaze. I can hope for this outcome.
13. One thing you'd take from an arc/ book?
CHAMELEON'S WHOLE CHARACTER FUCK THAT GUY SORRY CHAMELEON FANS!!! I think it'd be far more fascinating to develop an actual story behind Darkstalkers Scroll than This Random Dude Finds It. Like I'd love to have met a character whos a collector of animus objects, a character whos story mirrors that of Darkstalkers or any of the og trio. I dunno why it irks me so much I just can't stand Chameleon's character he frustrates me and creates so many weird ""plot holes"" (why would Scarlet just like??? use him for weird shit instead of literally anything else?? why was he going along with it? WHY IS HE PERILS DAD???) I just don't like him & think that that plot could've been far more impactful if approached differently. Here's an old ramble I had on this topic, not the biggest fan of it anymore but it's still fun! 16. Any backstory headcanons?
My main two favorites are my backstory headcanons for Queen Scarlet & Commander Shark! I ramble about my Queen Scarlet thoughts in this old post! I truly hate how that old post is worded & might post a better idea dump on that concept if folks are interested, but I think her being "false royalty" is very fun in concept. Lady Macbeth themes. For Shark, I generally have a backstory headcanon regarding him being the bastard child of the king at the time! He technically is not royal (as the royal line is passed down from queen to dragonet) and was refused the title of "Prince" as a dragonet. The queen pushed him into guard work as a kid to keep him out of the public eye. He & Coral grew up incredibly close & Coral was an incredibly protective older sister to Shark. He disliked the violence of guardsmen training as he was forced into it as a dragonet, but still had a great fascination with battle strategy & a neutral fascination with weaponry, resulting in him studying defense. Coral killed her mother as an act of defiance, and one of her first actions as queen was to officially award Shark the title of prince. From then on its just like, he grew up close with Coral, was close friends with Tempest from army training, introduced Coral & Gill (who is Tempest's brother in my headcanon), and all that. Eventually growing apart from coral, but that strays away from the background topic. Either way! Fun Shark thoughts!

I always wondered what would be Blister's rule should she have won the succession war, and although given all context about her, I guess the best we could extrapolate is a bigger version of what she was already doing, seeding mistrust among her subordinates, manipulating the masses and assassinating potential troublemakers every once in a while.
So far so good, but too typical dictatorship stuff for my tastes, so I decided to try to imagine a simple idea for an original Blister leadership in wof, mixing a bit of my AU ideas I have used and reused from time to time about her, so there comes the Savage State.
Blister is an occultist character, believer of powers greater than herself, but at the same time obsessed with her own divinity. She rather leads a cult of followers with obscure practices through the succession war, founded by one principle, the natural savagery of dragonkind and the liberation of its best potentials. She for long observed and 'studied' her own sister Burn, a 'specimen' she considered most fascinating, the muscular physical, the best of dragonkind, yet her brain somehow hadn't shrunk, at least not totally, she would be the ideal slave in Blister's world, she would only pity she hadn't hatched before Burn.
Blister also had some other experiences with dragons that through the years solidified her beliefs, like queen Coral.
The savage state consists of the queen, Blister, and her slave caste, everyone else. To begin such state, the first order of the day, the complete annihilation of writings, historical records and scrolls, petty things the commoner doesn't need to use, at least not yet.
The second order, the annihilation of education. Schools, orphanages and wingeries would be destroyed, an uneducated youth, a savage adulthood, goals to be pursued by the Blister regime, for she doesn't need thinkers, but brute muscles. Blister predicted in two generations time, dragons would revert most of their society into primitivity, the perfect state.
As far as things go, Blister is just repeating some steps of my AU Wasp, which honestly would make Blister blush with her evil.
Once her destruction of history, education and free thought was completed, Blister would rule without fear, for no one would have the free thought or will to challenge her at all, she would revert dragon society to the earliest years of post-Scorching, where legendary queens led dragons with status of goddesses, a thing Blister is particularly fond of becoming.
Her great experiment however, wouldn't be limited to the SandWings, but spread over all of Pyrrhia, queendom by queendom. Her favorite target were the MudWings, a tribe already considered lesser brutes by the others, which would become her main source of slave force and soldiers,
The next were the SeaWings, in her stay there, Blister learned quite a lot about propaganda, for no one ran a better propaganda machine than Coral, one of the first mass adapters of mass literature and media for the common folk. Of course, a mass of uneducated slaves was useless for her long-term projects, so the SeaWings were to become her more skilled slave force.
A place would be found for each of the tribes, which would come together to form her greater empire, Blistralia XD, or Aridia, as a better term, an ancient and often known name of the Arid Queendom, the first SandWing state in history, led by the queen of same name, Arid.
So it was it, mixing Blister's cunning, manipulation and superiority complex, to shape a true dystopia. Next time I gonna write about canon Burn's improved rule and Blaze's.

Hii! I'm here to tell you about Mamba, one of my many many many Wings of Fire OCs!
Mamba is a female SandWing, her scales are dark brown and her underside is light tan. Her eyes are especially dark and her tongue is black. An unusual coloration for a dragon meant to live in the desert, but not unheard of.
She's best friends and roommates with a female SandWing named Hyena, who she's known since childhood. They've been together through a lot.
Her personality is rather hard to read, and she feels numb a lot of the time. She also has problems with empathy. She doesn't tend to share her emotions, and she has a mysterious and intimidating air. Part of this comes from her response to abusive parents, especially her father, who is now in jail. She hasn't exactly faced the past in a healthy way, at least not yet, and instead pushes it way deep down.
She loves Hyena, though. When baby Mamba needed to escape her home for the night, Hyena and her friendly, caring father were there for her, a second, better home. Hyena didn't turn out an angel either, despite her more stable childhood. But she and Mamba are still best friends.
When Hyena's kleptomania is triggered and she steals half a shelf of snacks, Mamba is there to either pay for it on her behalf or, if she doesn't have any treasure, gaslight the shopkeeper into believing they were never stolen from at all. When Hyena is about to jump into an impulse decision, Mamba is there to pull her back. In return, Hyena gives Mamba lots of affection(within reason while respecting her personal boundaries) and supports her and generally treats her like a sister. They're besties I love them :)
Also they both have a well adjusted, wholesome, good advice giving cafe owner friend named Bilby, and Hyena has a NightWing bf named Shadowfall :3
i love them!! i actually really like hyena from your description. i love a good friendship, and they both seem like really fun characters. shadowfall's a sick name btw, i'd love to hear more about him.
this might be a weird question idk? but ive been getting back into drawing dragons and i like how you described mamba's design. would you like it if i drew her and/or hyena? obviously if not that's totally fine but i figured i'd ask lol. if that's something you'd like, feel free to add on with what hyena looks like.
super glad to hear about them regardless though! if you have any other like tribe headcanon stuff i'd love to hear that too. i plan on posting full sheets and descriptions for each tribe sometime soon, life just gets busy so it's taking longer than i meant it to. love these fun little dragons

I love WoF AUs that go “what if different eggs got taken for the dragonet prophecy” and we get a different set of dragonets for an alternate version of the 1st arc.
Tumblr media
So yeah I decided to make my own (I’ve gone through a couple of different iterations, but this is the most current.
The quirk here is that I basically thought “wait what if the dragonets where everything Morrowseer had wanted”. Like they just ended up with with a perfectly normal set of a Mud, Sand, Sea, Night, and Skywing. No replacement-that-is-of-a-different-tribe-because-one-of-the-guardians-fucked-something-up. No obvious hybrids. They get left alone for another year, and emerge from the cave to the chaos of the events of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd arcs all at once.
(Also another quirk is that they are all related in some way to a canon character; Asha and Hviter are also still alive)
Tumblr media
Bigshadow (She/They)
-She’s the big soft himbo-type character. Due to severe nearsightedness, they’ve always had difficulty reading/writing. The guardians just assume she’s dumb, but she really loves learning and art.
-I can’t remember if it’s canon that Secretkeeper and Morrowseer had tried to had dragonets before Moonwatcher and that they had “lost” them, but I decided for this AU, an attempt had produced a viable egg and Morrowseer decided “what would be a better dragonet to lead the dragonets of destiny than my own”, stealing the egg and flying through the night to the cave.
-Due to this, Bigshadow was partially exposed to the moonlight of the Brightest Night, giving her somewhat unreliable psychic powers. Most of the time she misinterprets them as being very weird dreams/intrusive thoughts.
-Shortly after Morrowseer did his year-prior check in, they start to feel a strange presence in their dreams and swear they hear someone calling to them from outside the cave when things are quiet (*cough* *cough* Darkstalker).
Tumblr media
Mangrove (He/They) (yes I know there is already a canon character named Mangrove; it’s a sick name)
-Gumpy quiet sad man who’s in to medicine and nature
-In this universe, Gill gets a “funny feeling” during the Brightest Night and decides to take what would be Tsunami’s egg so he can “be with his new daughter during her hatching”. Webs, then, takes one of the male eggs instead when he breaks into the hatching room.
-The AU Sandwing minder; Jackal (more on her later), was a little too rough on him when was younger during fight practice (maybe I should have featured a scar somewhere in his design?). Due to this, he abhors violence.
Tumblr media
Mole (She/Her)
-The softly spoken nerd who gets picked on for not being the big strong meatbag Mudwing the guardians had wanted. She has a secretly love for war history and is probably really good at strategically fighting (in a real world AU she would be an American Civil War or WWII nerd).
-Asha couldn’t get Cattail to give up Clay’s egg, so Crocodile (remember that lady?) gives Asha “her” blood red egg (she actually stole it from her sister, Toad) at the last minute.
-I originally had her as being from a non-blood red egg Crocodile just painting red but the Sandwing minder probably just would have incinerated her.
Tumblr media
Coyote (Any Pronouns) (I’m not sure about the name; I wanted something related to new world deserts but not named after a cactus and I don’t feel like Gila or Mesa fit).
-Apathetic bastard who hates everyone except her adoptive siblings (basically as far as you could get from Sunny without being an outright evil asshole).
-In this AU, Dune never left the Outclaws (the dragonet that would have been Sunny is raised among them). Due to this, a different Sandwing minder was chosen from the TOP; Jackal.
-Jackal was…umm…very devout to the prophecy and willing to “weed out anything that wasn’t promised in the prophecy” (she probably would have killed both Glory and Sunny immediately, Starflight not having psychic powers probably would have set her off as well).
-Jackal stole the egg of her brother, Corsac, a general in Blaze’s army. Corsac and his wife, Bison, caught her in the middle of the act, but she got away (they would later have a son, Pronghorn, like the one from JMA).
Tumblr media
Shrike (They/Them)
-The artsy goth kid who loves supernatural stuff (they go wild every time Hviter or Webs starts talking about amunism).
-Kestrel in this AU either doesn’t have Peril/Sky in the first place or chooses to fuck off into the mountains with her kids (perhaps with the help of Soar/Chameleon?). Maroon (name also pending), a different Skywing, is instead chosen. Due to Maroon being less “high profile” than Kestrel, he is chosen to steal the Skywing egg, being more familiar with what hatcheries are more or less highly guarded than others (unlike, say, Hviter).
-This version of the dragonets have made a giant cave mural with the help of Asha and the Maroon. Shrike is the primary contributor to this mural even though the other dragonets have “grown out of it”. Mostly, they paint Bigshadow’s “dreams”.
-They are intrigued by Bigshadow’s dreams and is the only one who thinks they are more than just dreams.
-They make jewelry out of bones from the prey animals the guardians bring them (originally I was going to include a necklace with some skulls and stuff, but that shit’s hard to draw).
-I had no smooth way of tying to fit this in but he is either the half-sibling or cousin (I haven’t decided) to the Skywing False Dragonet, Flame.

Royal Sandwing Family (Part 1)
General Details:
The pattern Blister have in canon are kind of like the Symbols the Seawing royal family has on their wings, there's just least chances that it show up, but it's always a recessive gene
In this part we're seeing Oasis, her sisters and her Husband
Oasis
She/Her, Heterosexual
She used to be a good queen, her problem was that she didn't wanted to let go of the crown, she only had dragonnets because she had to, she was good to her subjects but not to her family, always dry, always thinking that everyone was here to get her, she never tried to get help, this lead to the war of succession, forever segmenting her legacy as "That dragoness who dragged hundreds into her grave"
She liked to listen to music and loves art in general, she had a royal orchestra and a royal painter
Tumblr media
Oryx
She/Her, Lesbian
Oryx was quite similar to Blaze, she actually adored her nieces and nephew, she never wanted to be queen and was sad that her being viable for the throne tainted her relationship with Oasis, she tried many times to prove herself but it only made Oasis more paranoid, she was killed after a failed assassination attempt on Oasis, she was the first to jump in and tried to find out who had tried to poison her sister, that sadly made Oasis think that she was the one who did it, she was executed for treason
She loved to make jewellery
Tumblr media
Onyx
She/Her, Aroace
For Onyx, family was everything, she always looked out for her sister's kids, she was a stereotypical cool aunt, but she had her flaws, and one of them is that she may think about the next thing she will say, but it wasn't gonna stop her saying what she thought, and confronting Oasis about her paranoia, telling her that if she treated her daugter better maybe she wouldn't have to be fearful of them and that she would have to loose her crown someday anyway, her last mistake
She loved to organise things
Tumblr media
Char
He/Him, Bisexual
He started of as a happy dragon, headover heels for Princess Oasis, then she became queen, then they had dragonnets, then Oryx "betrayed" her, then Onyx "disappeared", he slowly turned into a jaded, cold dragon, Oasis' death was the last nail in his coffin, he stayed with Burn and watched as the family he builded with Oasis crumbled under its faulty foundations
He loved to fly, more then the regular dragon, he was the one to teach their dragonnets to fly
Tumblr media
Next up will be Burn, Blister, Blaze, Scald, Singe and Smolder
