Idk if mingot-studios was being serious about their “all that for a guy with a clown nose”-ish comment under ur heartfelt post but that rly adds another layer of angst to buggy as a character,, cuz like he cant be taken seriously because of his nose and he will always be seen as a joke and that thought even hurts me cuz like damn.
Like u said Oda already presented buggy in 1082 as a more serious and tragic character and the ppl who read the manga understood it and changed their view on buggy in 180 (me included, cemented him in my top 10),,
but then toei, more focused on action and emotions to certain characters, chose to animate it as something comedic,, cuz?? Cuz they still see him as a gag character ig? Ig they dont rly expect to see anything from him, which is kinda dumb cuz oda already made him emperor and is on the spread abt getting the onepiece, like this is why i only read the manga lol
Welcome to my rant! I love ur shuggy/buggy/sanuso takes btw pls post more abt them if u have the time❤️ tysm!!
I believe they were serious cuz they've already reblogged some stuff of mine (and some mutual's posts too) sending hate and... Seems pretty genuine to me.
And yeah! Within the manga too, Buggy is never taken seriously for both his fruit and his appearance. And that makes A LOT of sense for his character and the way he behaves, so it doesn't bother me that people treat him badly there. It IS unfair and it does hurt me but chapter 1082 made readers change their opinions on him, the same way I think some characters in the manga will too.
Toei, though? They didn't get the hint....... At all......
And thanks!!!!!!! That's so sweet 💖💖💖 I haven't been able to post lately cause I'm writing my own book (well- I'm in the process at least) and waiting to start working at a library. BUUUUUUT I WILL post more about my sillies soon 💖💖💖💖

eyo toei has been doing some absolutely terrifying things pacing-wise in order to keep the anime from overtaking the manga. early on they did some filler arcs but ig the sheer momentum that one piece has been maintaining since the second half began has kept that from happening? i ramble. anyway. starting the anime ought to be fine, but should it slow down past the point of comfort i'd recommend switching over to One Pace (the dragon-ball-kai-style fanedit) or the manga, which are more // much more focused One Piece experiences, respectively.
and ofc that's if you choose to start One Piece at all. which I do recommend! it launches from the starting block already extremely good and fun story and only ascends towards peak fiction from there. And you don't have to worry about catching up or anything; if you read/watch at your own pace you'll catch up eventually, and One Piece is more about the journey than the destination.
How did I miss this??
Forgive me, this was an incredibly kind and insightful ask and I totally missed it but I still want to reply since you took the time to ask!
I did start the anime, and while I was enjoying it I also found that the pacing was taking me quite some time to get through certain arcs. I liked having it on but I wanted to get though the story faster.
I switched over to the manga and I’m in the middle of Volume 10 right now 😅 I’m loving it so far!! (In fact, I was reading it on my phone at a party I was at recently 😆)
@paisleypikachu also encouraged me to give the manga a shot (for both pacing and story reasons) and it’s been working out great!
Thanks again for taking the time to write; I’m looking forward to my One Piece journey!!

“But it's not our place to judge [their actions]. We don't think it's right to let them die just because we hate them. Both sides risked their lives in battle, and both are prepared to kill if necessary. But when the fight's over, we'll those rules cease to apply.“
-          Biscuit Krueger, Hunter x Hunter (Ep. 74)
This week’s Toonami Trending Rundown is a double-feature for the nights of November 18-19 and 25-26, 2017. A big two weeks for the better cartoon show as the second half of Countdown would be showcased while Beerus collects the Super Dragon Balls and summons Super Shenron, Gon fighting off Genthru from killing him for his cards, and Gene has a score to settle with the McDougal Brothers, among other great moments.
For November 18th’s Toonami on Twitter, every show save for Shippuden, Bebop, and GITS would successfully trend in some capacity in the US during the East Coast airing. Meanwhile both Toonami and Dragon Ball Super would also trend on tumblr.
And finally, Dragon Ball Super continues strong as the buzz would help the show once again make it on Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on the day, reaching the #4 spot with a combined 34,000 total interactions between users on Twitter and Facebook. This is the 27th time for Super and 41th time a Toonami show overall has made onto Nielsen’s daily list since we started recording this feat.
The following week’s Toonami took place during Thanksgiving weekend, so this year Toonami has opted to take the week off regular scheduling to show episodes 131-140 of DBZ Kai, but not before showcasing the finale of Countdown. In terms of trending, both Toonami and #DBZKai trended in the US and Toonami trending on tumblr, ending a drought of the last two marathon nights of a show not trending.
Tumblr media
Of course, for the past two weeks, Toonami showcased both parts 3 and 4 of Countdown, which you can see below. As previously mentioned, this will be the last Total Immersion Event until at least mid-2019 as the Toonami crew wants to have more time to create the next one.
youtube
youtube
Unlike previous Total Immersion Events in the modern era, the post-Countdown look wont entail any major new changes to the block’s look aside from a battle-scarred TOM and a few new additions to the Vindication. This is because according to Jason DeMarco, the TOM 5 look still remains popular among viewers and the Toonami crew to keep it awhile, though there are plans to have a revamp sometime next year.
We will however see some new changes programming wise going into next week, but before we get to the big news, here are some notable Toonami-related news of note going around within the anime community:
Very unfortunate news within the Dragon Ball community as since February, Christopher Ayres, the voice of Frieza has been battling End Stage C.O.P.D., a progressive and incurable condition that affects your ability to breathe well. As the illness has unfortunately kept him away from working in the booth, Daman Mills, the voice of Monaka, has assisted as an understudy for Frieza in the meantime. With the need for a lung transplant and various other medical related procedures, if you wish to assist Chris in his medical bills, his family has set up a YouCaring page which you can help donate to this cause. This afternoon, he posted that is being discharged today, which hopefully is a good sign. On behalf of the Toonami Faithful, we wish Chris and his family our thoughts and prayers as he gets through this.
Additional sad news for the Dragon Ball community as Hiromi Tsuru, the Japanese voice actor for Dragon Ball’s Bulma and Trigun’s Meryl Stryfe has passed away last Thursday from Aortic dissection at the age of 57. On behalf of all DBZ fans, thanks for the memories and rest in peace.
And in some very disappointing news to say the least in regards to a Toonami classic, Nobuhiro Watsuki, the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, has been arrested for possession of child pornography. Because of this, Kenshin, which was previously seeing a revival of the manga, now is on an indefinite hiatus.
For those interested in seeing what could be to come, Yen Press has announced during AnimeNYC that they have licensed the Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online light novels for translation and publication in US shores. Yen Press has also been in charge with US distribution of the light novels and manga for the mainline SAO series as well as the Progressive series. As previously mentioned, both Alternative GGO and Project Alicization are presently in the works for anime adaptations, with premiere dates to be determined.
And for those who have caught up to the recent editions of the Hunter x Hunter manga may know, ailing health has forced series creator Yoshihiro Togashi to bring Hunter x Hunter in and out of hiatus in recent years, with the most recent hiatus going since last August. However, Weekly Shonen Jump has indicated that the series will be continuing on the January 29th, 2018 issue.
Tumblr media
If you haven’t heard, some big news for the block last Friday as announced on Toonami’s Facebook. Next week, Toonami will be receiving another expansion beginning next week on December 2 to begin at 10:30pm EST, with both Dragon Ball Super and DBZ Kai moving up the schedule by 30 minutes. In addition, the prime-time presentation of Super at 8:30 will be ending, as the premiere will now be airing 2 hours later. This is in due part to Toonami bringing in its newest acquisition: the broadcast dub of Black Clover, which will premiere on 11:30pm.
Based on the increasingly popular Shonen Jump manga series by Yūki Tabata, which as of this writing has 13 volumes published, the series has been adapted into an anime by Studio Pierrot and began premiering in Japan on October 3, 2017. The series is expected to be 51 episodes in length, barring any future sequels.
The story’s synopsis is as follows: (source: FUNmation):
“Asta and Yuno are two orphans who want the same thing: to become the Wizard King. Locked in a friendly rivalry, they work hard towards their goal. While Yuno excels at magic, Asta has a problem uncommon in this world: he has no powers! But, on the day they receive their grimoires, they surprise everyone. To reach their goal, they’ll each find their own path to greatness—with or without magic.”
Black Clover is one of the FUNimation licensed animes released this season that is receiving a “Broadcast/Simul-Dub”, dubs that are released immediately or not long after the Japanese broadcast, joining Space Dandy, Dimension W, and Attack on Titan season 2 as one of the few Toonami shows in the modern era that are receiving this special fast-track dub to American shores.
Among our main characters, Dallas Reid will take on the role of Asta, while Yuno will be voiced by Micah Solusod, best known among Toonami fans for previously voicing Soul Eater Evans. The full list for the first few episodes has been published by FUNimation, which you can see here.
youtube
Time will tell whether Black Clover will be the next big shonen anime series or not, and what it brings to the better cartoon show, but according to Jason DeMarco on his ask.fm page, future plans for Toonami are in place extending to at least 2021. With many new works and sequels potentially on the horizon, these are exciting times to be a Toonami fan, and as long as it has the ratings support from both anime fans and general viewers, the support of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Turner Broadcasting, and the maintaining of partnerships with Funimation, Viz, Aniplex, Sentai, Production IG, Toei, Sunrise, Discotek, and the anime industry in general, I think this train will keep on going for many more years to come.
Besides Black Clover’s debut and the expansion to 10:30pm EST, tune in next week as TOM and SARA are back on the helm as Hunter x Hunter showcases the finale of the Greed Island arc. So until then, stay golden as always.
Legend: The shows listed are ordered based on their appearance on the schedule. Show trends are listed in bold. The number next to the listed trend represents the highest it trended on the list (not counting the promoted trend), judging only by the images placed in the rundown. Ace’s Top Ten Favorite Manga
I don’t read as much manga as I used to and don’t really have an interesting intro for this one. I’ll do anime next week.
Returning to form, these are in no particular order.
Tumblr media
an unrelated pikachu appears!
1. Fruits Basket
Tumblr media
I don’t have much to say about this one that I haven’t already said. I really like Tohru and Kyo. I did ship it and was happy when it became a thing. Momiji is cute. Shigure is a dickhead and Akito deserves better. I like Haru.
...
Yep, that’s everything I’ve got to say about Fruits Basket. The well is empty. I’m gonna be in a real pickle next time this shows up on a list.
2. One Piece
Tumblr media
I mentioned before that I don’t watch the anime anymore because I know for a goddamn fact that Toei can afford to make it not look like ass but it still looks like ass so Toei can eat all of the dicks, but did you know that there’s an alternate universe where the anime is being made by Production IG? Fuck those guys in that universe.
I’m sorry; I don’t try to seize every opportunity to shit on Toei, but I can’t help it. I just hate them so much. Not as much as Ed Sheeran, but at least as much as Russell Crowe.
Anyway, there’s a reason it’s the most popular manga of all time in Japan and that reason is because it’s really damn good. If you’re daunted by the length, you can just read the first chapter, then skip ahead to the most recent one. That’ll give you pretty much all the background information you need, and if you find you’re digging it, then you can go back and get caught up later.
3. Oresama Teacher
Tumblr media
This is another series that I’ve already exhausted my supply of words for. It’s great and you should read it.
4. Mob Psycho 100
Tumblr media
Spoiler for next week: This one’ll be on that list, too. The live-action Netflix show might’ve ended up on my TV shows list even though it’s not even out yet, but the kid playing Mob is too old (he’s seventeen. it might not seem like there’s a big difference between 14 and 17 since it’s only three years, but there’s a huge difference between 14 and 17 even though it’s only three years) and that bothers me.
5. Yotsuba&!
Tumblr media
This series is cute. Moving on.
6. Lone Wolf and Cub
Tumblr media
This series had a bit of a weird ending but it’s still pretty great. It’s full of super-bloody samurai fights! And the stupid kid isn’t annoying! Fuckin’ sweet.
7. My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
Ye.
8. The Promised Neverland
Tumblr media
This is still a really new series (it only started last year), but it quickly established itself as one of the best series Shonen Jump has ever come out with. It’s a huge departure from your typical shonen fare to a degree I haven’t really seen since Death Note. I really, really, really want it to get an anime. Preferably one handled by Studio Bones. Studio Bones should do every shonen.
9. Mushishi
Tumblr media
This is another one that’s going to be on next week’s list. It purdy.
10. The World God Only Knows
Tumblr media
Wait, did this manga ever get an official English release? Have I just outed myself as a criminal? Oops. Please don’t call the cops on me.
Anyway, the ending was a bit rushed and relied on a few contrivances and poorly established reveals, but apparently the author had some health problems or something and it was really good aside from that. The anime is also good, but it cuts a lot out so if you haven’t read the manga you’ll be missing some important stuff.
So there ya go. I do want to mention A Silent Voice cause it’s really good, but it didn’t make the list because it has a character who constantly behaves in a needlessly antagonistic manner and I hate needlessly antagonistic characters. If you have a higher tolerance for them than I do, you’ll probably enjoy the series a lot.
I still haven’t seen the movie. I hear it’s good. I want to watch it.

Netflix Doubles Down on Anime
Netflix announced a trio of new anime shows on Monday, including an animated adaptation of its live action sci-fi Altered Carbon and a series based on Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma video game.
The shows are part of Netflix’s new partnership with anime studios Sublimation and David Production in Japan and Anima Studios in Mexico City. Last year, Netflix announced partnerships with Japan-based animation houses Production IG and Bones. That’s five major partnerships in two years—a sign that the streaming giant is doubling down on anime while staring down looming competition in the streaming space from Disney and WarnerMedia.
Netflix has been ramping up its anime stable for a while; in 2017, Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said during a call with investors that the company had “more than 30 original anime projects in various states of production these days.” The increased anime production reflects a broader strategy at Netflix: create as much original content as possible to compete with the old-school production studios.
A few years ago, Netflix was the one-stop streaming destination for cord cutters. Everything from Disney movies to classic films was there, and still is, at least for now. But as the company grew, some content creators decided they could cut Netflix out by breaking off to launch their own services and take their films and franchises with them.
When Disney launches its planned streaming service Disney+ later this year, its properties—Star Wars, Marvel, and a hundreds of classic films—will disappear from Netflix. The same will likely happen when WarnerMedia launches its own service at the end of 2019. WarnerMedia owns Friends and CW shows such as Riverdale on Netflix, as well as the Harry Potter film franchise.
Anime is just one of the many types of content Netflix is pursuing the fill the coming content gap; the company has also invested heavily in producing shows and films like the acclaimed Roma, which was available on Netflix shortly after debuting in theatres.
It’s hard to make a profit producing anime in Japan, and the industry has come under fire for notoriously poor working conditions. Shows are often developed by committee where anywhere from five to 15 different companies gather together to fund a production and distribute the risk. The different players may have their own demands, and each take a small chunk of whatever profits a show might make. This process often leaves studios running in the red.
Netflix, and other streaming services, are changing that. “Netflix is restoring it to a sane business model,” Toei Animation producer Joseph Chou told The Hollywood Reporter. “You’re looking at maybe a 15 percent margin rather than a 5 percent loss.”
“There’s no TV station involved to say what needs to be done to make something okay for broadcast,” Kotaro Yoshikawa, vice president distribution and licensing at TMS Entertainment, which licenses content to Netflix, told the Hollywood Reporter. “Though we may still have to make adjustments, like reducing the amount of blood on screen, for versions that will be broadcast on television.”
The chance to actually make a profit likely made Netflix an attractive partner for the Japanese animation houses it’s partnered with. But it’s not the only streaming service shopping around. According to Chou, Amazon, Apple Studios—which has streaming plans of its own—and anime streaming service Crunchyroll are all courting Japanese studios.
It’s clear that Japanese animation studios are in demand and streaming services like Netflix see them as vital allies in the fight against old media brands hoarding their digital libraries.

Spring 2017 Watchlist
It’s a month into the season, and while I do occasionally drop anime near the end (by which I mean I’ve done it all of twice, and one of those was because they kept molesting a child for laughs. And no I am never ever ever gonna stop bringing that up), by this point the sunk cost fallacy has kicked in, and anything that’s gonna get dropped, likely has been dropped. So, here’s what I’m watching this season.
100% Teacher Pascal
Tumblr media
summary: a weird yellow thing becomes an elementary school teacher. the children, oddly enough, aren’t thrilled with this. hilarity ensues
Why are there no gifs of this series yet? C’mon, people, this shit is hilarious. Don’t make me have to put this on my underrated anime spotlight at the end of the season.
Alice & Zoroku
Tumblr media
summary: magic little girl adopts a grumpy old man
This is one of those precious few anime that has managed to completely live up to my expectations. It’ll almost certainly end up in my top 5 of the season, and if it continues to satisfy it might just make it to the top 10 for the year.
Case Closed
Tumblr media
summary: does anyone actually not know what this anime is about? it’s been running for 20 years.
ugh, fine. it’s about a teenage detective who gets stuck as a 6-year-old
This is on my watchlist pretty much every season, though I will occasionally skip a few episodes if I get busy. It’s not like plot stuff happens often enough that I’m likely to miss anything important.
Dragon Ball Super
Tumblr media
summary: okay, now i know for a goddamn fact y’all know what dragon ball is about. i’m not about to waste my time or insult y’all’s intelligence by telling you. if you need to know, just grab some random person on the street and ask them for a summary
Hey, ya see, Toei actually can care when they have a mind to. I’m not sure if they’re putting a lot of effort into this arc because there’s been some lukewarm responses to Super and they’re trying to keep the long-time fans interested, or if they accidentally appointed a director who gives a shit, but this arc has been looking pretty damn good. I hope they’ll keep it up, even though I know they won’t.
KADO: The Right Answer
Tumblr media
summary: an alien offers humanity unlimited free energy because
This is a series that has actually managed to surpass my expectations, and not only because I’m now absolutely certain Shindo and Hanamori are fucking. I haven’t bothered to check, but I really hope this is only a one cour anime, because that’s only as long as Toei is ever willing to put effort into one of their series.
Kenka Bancho Otome -Girl Beats Boys-
Tumblr media
summary: a girl switches places with a dude who looks just like her so she can beat up all the boys at her new school
This one seems to have already found a fanbase, which is great because it’s good stuff. I mean, look at that summary. That summary alone is good shit. I’m a little disgruntled that there were only 4 gifs in the search thing and none of them featured the main character, but what’m I gonna do? Start making my own gifs? Like I got time for that shit.
Makeruna!! Aku no Gundan!
Tumblr media
summary: an inept invader tries to conquer earth, and no i didn’t just get that summary mixed up with invader zim’s
This is another one I couldn’t find a gif for. Why do y’all hate fun so much?
My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
summary: a boy with no superpowers gets a superpower and goes to school to become a superhero
It’s one of my favorite shonen series so naturally it’s gonna be on my watchlist. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s the goodest of shit.
Ninja Girl & Samurai Master
Tumblr media
summary: my daughter helps oda nobunaga do his thang
I’ve been digging this series since it first started last Fall. I hope it continues forever, even though it won’t because it has a plot and follows historical events.
Sakura Quest
Tumblr media
summary: a group of young women work to revive tourism to a country town
Eyyyy, I haven’t dropped this one yet! Not that I’m planning on dropping it, but I wasn’t planning on dropping Hanasaku Iroha or Shirobako, either, so I’m still certain that something is going to occur any day now that will prevent me from continuing it.
Shonen Ashibe Go! Go! Goma-chan
Tumblr media
summary: a little boy gets a pet seal after it falls off the back of a truck. hilarity ensues
Anyone else notice how the new ED makes Ashibe and Sugao look like separated lovers? That’s a bit weird, isn’t it? Yeah, toy ships are cute I guess, but you know what’s also cute? Acknowledging that 7-year-olds don’t give a shit about that crap.
The Royal Tutor
Tumblr media
summary: a diminutive professor tries to teach 4 princes how not to be douchebags
Hello, yes, I would like to request more Kai, thank you kindly. I know he’s the quiet one and much like an actual classroom the loud ones will hog the attention, but Kai is a Very Good Boy and I like him the most.
Tiger Mask W
Tumblr media
summary: a young man becomes a pro wrestler to get revenge on the guy who ended his mentor’s career
Boy howdy, the animation in this series has undergone a serious drop in quality since the first cour. See what I mean about Toei only caring long enough to build a fanbase? It still doesn’t look nearly as bad as One Piece did when I finally got annoyed enough with Toei’s shit to drop it (fun fact: there’s an alternate universe where the One Piece anime is handled by Production IG, and may I say? Fuck those guys in that universe), but I’d still prefer to see the wrestling moves instead of having to take the announcer’s word for it.
Eh, whatever. I still like this series, and it’s gotten me interested in watching actual pro wrestling, which is way more than can be said for pretty much any other sports anime ever.
World Fool News Part II
Tumblr media
summary: a normal guy becomes a news anchor at a station full of weird people who cover weird stories
I watched the first season of this back when it first aired back in 2014, and now just as then it’s one of those series I enjoy while I’m watching and never think about when I’m not.
Although, one of the more recent episodes did provide the perfect reaction image to use next time you’ve got an dumbass trying to offer their unwanted two cents on an issue that isn’t about them:
Tumblr media
in case you’d like the context, the woman telling him to shut up was trying to have a conversation with the lady anchor and that dude kept butting in
So you can go ahead to feel free to take that screencap and use it whenever you find it necessary.
WorldEnd: What Will You Do At the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?
Tumblr media
summary: a human becomes the military protector for a bunch of magical girls
Hey, Crunchyroll, thanks for making me look like an asshole by including a shorter version of the title after I’d already complained that there was no shorter version of the title. And after I was kind enough to offer to write your summaries for you. See if I ever offer to help you out again.
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK: The World Yamizukan
Tumblr media
summary: an anthology horror series about aliens ‘n robots ‘n shit
I really want to like this one because anthology horror is my favorite genre of anything, but so far none of the stories have been particularly scary or interesting. It’s not officially dropped yet, but it’s teetering on the edge. We’ll see if I feel like continuing it or not on Sunday.
So there ya go. That’s my watchlist for the season. I did mention in the first impressions that I’d be sticking with The Laughing Salesman and Hinako Note, but I dropped the former because it’s a bit too formulaic (it’s not bad; I just get the point already), and the latter because it introduced a 9-year-old with tig ol’ biddies, which in and of itself isn’t too much of a problem since they do exist (though having breasts that large at that age is a pretty serious medical issue), but then they did the thing that’s way too common in anime where she fell down and the camera took the opportunity to leer at her, so I dropped it immediately. Which really sucks, cause I liked Hinako Note, but what’re ya gonna do. I’m not going through a repeat of the child molestation gag from last season.
Whelp, I’m not sure how to end this, so here’s a gif of The Rock since apparently today’s his birthday.
Tumblr media
happy birthday, the rock
