ok ok ok ok my brain is buzzing. this is probably absolutely not the direction op intended but i could not stop my brain after the pinball machine launched this ball into it. this idea slammin around creating high scores you couldnt dream of
this started as tags and then i hit the tag limit, so i guess i have to be brave and add text to a reblog. horrifying. anwyay
i have no idea what exactly op has planned but imagine: zuko just fills out these little pocket journals, averaging about one journal a month (with exceptions to particularly busy months), as he lives through his banishement. journaling was a suggestion from iroh and like a year into it some crew memeber finds one, reads it, and is immediately like "damn this is actually so easy to read. its almost like this kid grew up obsessed with plays and really understands narrative structure........i could make money off of this." and they start sending copies of these journals off to short story anthology publications or weekly writers magezines. (<- do more research on the history of book publishing but ykno.) theyd probably change names and market it as fiction. and it goes well enough that the crew member is like "i need the others. im going to be rich"
long story short, the journals get really popular#they end up getting their own anthology instead of scattered around others. this 'fictional' narrative is taking the world by storm and the crew is making bank. zuko is so confused as to why the budget problems that were constant in the first year have vanished. also very confused as to why he's getting journals and pens and brushes as gifts?? from the CREW???? but whatever he has an avatar to find we cannot stray from that
come the start of the show with a still oblivious zuko and a crew swimming in cash. the avatar shows up and theyre like "holy shit we're about to break the publishing world." and as zuko is running around trying to catch the avatar and being very loud about it. readers start to realize UH. maybe this isnt so fictional. fringe rumors about that are gaining traction. suddenly the books are banned in the fire nation. civil unrest as readers realize that the fucked up story they read about a fictional prince being burned and banished at 13 was NOT satire
and zuko the oblivios fucker still has no idea these books exist. very confused as to why sometimes people get real creepily excited when they see him (they are fans). the crew is unaware that they've unintentionally been fueling a rebellion in the homeland, until they are suddenly VERY aware and VERY concerned cuz they just wanted money
can you imagine how fuckin obnoxious zhao would be when he finds these books. like zhao would fuckin try to be all mocking at first and then he'd realize that zuko has NO IDEA his shit is the equivalent of a new york times best seller. he'd be such a menace, he would never stop making sly lil remarks. and he'd find it too funny to give up the jig, until some point in the show where hes like "alright, game's over, it's been fun but now shit's serious." and zuko's like "wtf are you talking about. what is he talking about. why is everyone leaving. jee where are you going. why are you hiding. what"
at some point sokka pops out between some market stalls, new fancy bag over his shoulder, filled to the brim with lil coverless mass market books, and he's fuckin vibrating. "guys you are not gonna believe what i just found"
"are those books. since when do you read"
"i love reading now actually, this is my favorite activity"
Halfway into his banishment, Zuko decides that since he's traveling the world in search of the Avatar, he might as well record his adventures. He'll finally get a hobby, like Uncle wants him to, and work on his penmanship.
(Or, Zuko becomes a bestselling author, overthrows his father with the power of friendship, makes friends, and gets bitten by a shirshu, not necessarily in that order.) Travel writer!Zuko AU
This has been sitting in my notes for too long. Here. Have it.
#this is absolutely absurd and i acknowledge this#but it's also important adhgkhs#prince zuko new york times best selling author#<- has no fuckin clue#ba sing se times???#i have idea where iroh is in this#or how things would progress after s1#much less how s1 would even end for that matter#despite all the jokes#the angst potential in this is so high and i love it#my fanfic style is literally a tennis court where one end is humor#the other is angst#and my favorite character is the ball#atla#zuko#book one#fanfic#my takes#insp

That Sylvia didn't know from the beginning of shooting the show about Mother Superion having been a halo bearer before is absolutely wild based on her performance. Talk about intuition...
#i recall another interview of hers where she talks about the reaction the acting teacher had to her first time on stage or something#âthat's talent!â -- indeed it is indeed it is...#(don't mind me i'm just youtube diving for a sec)#silly blabbering#i could never be a script writer. she mentions two s1 episodes having been reworked in the middle of shooting some others#no guys seriously how do you rework something as it's happening lol braver than any us marine#there's a reason why i write and rewrite my stories and even my essays before i ever post them -- why i take months to complete a text#and why if ever i do lose my mind and write a multichap story it will be fully written before i ever post the first chapter#i can do improv rather well -- i did a few theatre classes and i can do beautiful ass pulls in the middle of an rpg session#but when i have a story to tell i have a vision to adhere to and nobody apart from my best friend sees that progress that back and forth#it's pretty cool that the writers changed a few things after getting to know the actors (and sylvia had mentioned that before as well)#but jeez i just would not be able to do it. kudos to every screenwriter playwright out there#since it's not just putting parts of the story out -- it's doing so for actors to read and perform. amazing#random edit to add that she?? did boxing for three years??? mamma mia aiutami

Honestly I think the main thing I canât look past in s2 is how it offers super simple solutions to incredibly complex and nuanced questions that s1 set up so intricately.
How can someone like Jinx ever become stable or well adjusted? Oh her hallucinations basically cease cuz she just becomes depressed and then before she can get over that brief period of apathy and go back to her psychotic self, she adopts a kid that basically brings Powder back. So the super crazy Jinx we expected to see after the cliffhanger of s1 never gets the chance to form! Isha serves as a plot device to avoid a complicated answer to Jinxâs mental issues and question of identity.
How can Vi and Jinx ever become sisters again after theyâve changed to much, is it even possible for them to reconcile? OH their dead dad comes back and reminds them of the good old days so we can ignore all the present and much more recent shit that has happened! And weâll just really reaffirm that Jinx is Vanderâs kid and not Silcoâs after ep 4! This is the easy way out to the sister conflict, literally just reminding them that âoh yeah! We did used to be sisters!â And then Jinx can just die so we donât need explore a complicated road to recovery that Jinx would have needed to embark on! Wow. What a cop out.
Will Zaun and Piltover ever be able to escape the cycle of violence that plagues them that is rooted in complex systemic oppression and inequality? Is violence the answers? Or will it only perpetuate more conflict? How can compromise come about with the rising extremism on both sides? How can Zaun and Piltover ever progress while acknowledging the horrors of the past, but still retaining optimism for the future? OH! Letâs actually just not even BOTHER exploring Piltover/Zaun at all!! Theyâll team up to fight foreign 3rd enemy (literally foreign cuz Noxus is literally another nation interfering) and an incredibly simple exploration of forgiveness is the answer! Definitely not clichĂ© as crap.
Complex questions, basic, uncomplicated answers. I simply wish the writers had chosen to prioritize themes and exploring interesting nuances more than big plot climatic style battle in the end. I see visions of nuance there, but they fall flat cuz of the fast pacing and what plots the story chose to prioritize, which donât organically continue the setup from s1
And the season doesnât do enough to properly explore these answer to justify them answering those questions. They use plot point through plot point to force the characters to where they need them to be without doing anything interesting with them to explore these complex themes from s1. and after speeding through all these arcs and themes they turn around and pretend like they perfectly answered these questions without putting in any of the work to bother exploring them

Iâm curious, how much control do you think Viktor was in in season 2?
I have tried to analyze this but am honestly stumped. Because on one hand it is clearly his intentions and logic being used. Since the beginning he has been wanting to heal people afflicted in Zaun (while it was also to cure his illness I donât doubt wanting to help those in need was a legitimate motivation). He does immediately go to heal people in Zaun and all the conclusions he jumps to through the season do seem perfectly reasonable for him. He was the type of person who didnât even conceptualize in season one that something like the hexclaw could be used as a weapon. That and the hexcore showing that he was a pacifist to the point of it being a massive blind spot to danger. So it makes sense being shot by Jayce of all people while in his eyes he was healing people would cause him to go all glorious evolution mode as a natural progression of his arc.
On the other hand he definitely didnât come back right. The show makes a point to show in season one that the hexcore has some level of physical control over him, and even when going to heal the shimmer addicts he is following Skyâs voice. The writers also confirmed that it indeed was not Sky and was the hexcore manifesting his guilt to push him towards to glorious evolution. And his emotions definitely seem to be muffled and unexpressive. I know this part is joked about a lot but honestly even the fact that he chokes Jayce is surprising because he is consistently characterized as a pacifist to the point of it being a fatal flaw. He doesnât even commit an act of violence in a show filled with fight scenes until the second to last episode, let alone against Jayce of all people. I think the last thing season one Viktor would do is intentionally cause physical harm to someone, hence why it is only at the part where he is the farthest gone.
Basically if I had to guess Iâd say itâs like 50/50 level of control, but you have written some great character analysis so Iâm curious what your thoughts are as to how much of season two was Viktor and how much was the Hexcore
Honestly, Anon, I'm wrestling with this on almost a daily basis myself when I write fics. It's definitely not helped by the fact they avoided a lot of exposition in S2 in favor of pacing (the slower pace of S1 allowed for a lot more signposting and exposition of what was going on, I think somewhat to the detriment of S2) and the fact that we don't really get much of Viktor after he stops being the Machine Herald, because to my eyes that's the first time we see the real Viktor all season and it would be nice to get him to express some contrast with what came before (though of course it would ruin the pacing of a perfect moment).
I think you basically nailed all of the points of confusion. I've ever considered tracking all the points where his voice warps for clues, because I think there is something to be gleaned from how and when his voice distorts, but in what direction is also a curious question.
Was saying "affection" kept them together more or less than what Viktor would have said to Jayce? Would he on his own have said love? Or would he, in his infinite shyness, have not dared to mention emotion at all, because Viktor is an expert at pushing those closest to him away and hiding his own emotions? Was that the Hexcore trying to drag Jayce in closer by calling it affection, or push him away before it could gain strength by lowering Viktor saying "love" down to just saying "affection"?
On the other hand, during the Herald's villain monologue at the end in the Astral Plane, his voice is distorted for almost every line except, "This senseless waste," which does feel like a sincere Viktor line, perhaps the only one that is truly him that whole time, including when he said he was pleased to see Jayce, in that horrible mocking tone. Could that not be the Hexcore speaking there?
I'll offer what I think is happening:
In order to chart "What is Hexcore" vs. "What is Viktor" it's less useful to look at Viktor's motives than the Hexcore's.
The Hexore wanted to expand its influence. It wanted to become powerful enough to have its own army and to destroy the civilization around it as other versions of the Hexcore have done throughout history. I believe it reached those goals by posing them as things Viktor, on his own, would want to do like help the needy, thus hiding its ends inside of Viktor's motives.
Note too that people who have dosed up on Shimmer are more susceptible to its molding.
Hence we can assume that the Hexcore, in the guise of Sky, using Viktor's guilt about her and his own failures to help the undercity, guided Viktor down to the Shimmer victim encampment specifically.
Viktor is not a mystic. The most mystical thing he says in S1 is that the Arcane speaks through mages. But the Hexcore is a magical artifact. Something like the Hexcore also destroyed a civilization centuries ago, and the figure in Heimerdinger's memory looks like Viktor when he's cloaked.
So personally, I think we can ascribe any mysticism to the Hexcore's influence too. That means the Cult, for example. Also Viktor's, "You need not suffer anymore," and kind of making them all genuflect to him, feels very OOC and just plain wrong for Viktor.
Whereas Viktor in the Astral Plane feels like real Viktor. Even the fact that when we show his point of view out into the world he is himself in a field of stars, seeing the real world projected in front of him like Plato's Allegory of the Cave gives the impression of imprisonment, like he's looking out through the windows of his own eyes to a shrouded world he can no longer directly touch.
And note, for example, that Sky/the Hexcore doesn't want Viktor to heal Vander. That's all Viktor. I believe the reason is because it doesn't want to run out of energy too quickly.
Basically, I think the Hexcore is stringing Viktor along there as Sky, giving him a little terrarium of stars to play in, while using him as a vessel of assimilation under the guise of healing. These are on both sides, inner and outer, things that Viktor wants to do, so he's seduced. He doesn't fight it.
I also think at a certain point, the Hexcore Viktor gains enough power to be able to impact people who aren't dosed with Shimmer. I think this comes later though, which is why it's not interested in Jayce at first but it is interested in assimilating him later. At that point, again, those motives align with Viktor's own sincere desire to see Jayce again (maybe he's sick of all the hippies in the commune lol) and the Hexcore is happy to get rid of someone who could conceivably stop it.
But note, the Hexcore is still playing along with Viktor. It could forcibly assimilate Jayce, but Viktor wants Jayce to choose his side willingly, so it holds back. In part too because that disappointment is what fuels Viktor to give himself over the Hexcore's goals entirely and ask for Singed's treatment with Apex Shimmer. At that point, as the showrunner noted, it doesn't need the guise of Sky anymore, it doesn't need to string Viktor along anymore. He's bought into the idea of forcibly assimilating the world if he can't get Jayce to join willingly.
I also heard an interesting theory that I'd like to factor in: basically, until he gains access to the Anomaly, Viktor doesn't have the power to strip himself of the Hexcore's influence or overcome it. That's why there's no point in Jayce trying to get through to him sooner, it wouldn't do anything because Viktor would still be trapped in its web.
Once they have the Anomaly, Viktor as an ascended being can strip away the Hexcore's influence. And that's why I lamented that we don't get more of his thoughts in that scene. Because I think an interpretation can be made that the Machine Herald look is just the human form of the Hexcore, using Viktor as a vessel.
Once that outer shell explodes, it really is Viktor again, with all the power of the Anomaly and Jayce's rune at his disposal. Now he and Jayce can work together to reverse the damage, free all the trapped souls from the Hexcore's web, and save the day. But we see that only then Viktor is able to view his own actions as himself, and he's horrified. There I think we get Viktor's one true, sincere reaction to everything that has happened up to that point and confirm that, yes, while the Hexcore interwove its seduction through Viktor's motives, none of this is what Viktor wanted. The ultimate outcome was the Hexcore's goals.
Quick Doylist addition: I also think there's definitely a draft where it's all Viktor getting controlled, but the writers know that can be kind of boring. It's better when characters take action and make choices, rather than being controlled. So I think that's why they settled on a combination of "The Hexcore's end goals, but Viktor's underlying motivations being twisted to support them."

It's wild to me just how badly Vi's arc is misunderstood in S2. The claims I've seen that it was bad because she didn't join up with Ekko to help liberate Zaun or didn't "have enough stuff to do."
Big 'ole S1 Vi analysis under the cut because some "hot" takes seem to forget that Vi's S1 arc even exists.
Like, sorry, but that was never the direction her character was going to go. This was spelled out for us in the very first episode of the show when Vander is giving her that lecture.
"When people look up to you, you don't get to be selfish."
"Whatever happens, it's on you."
This is the first conversation in the show that carries an impactful character building statement. We are effectively being given the start of Vi's character arc verbatim.
She is not allowed to be selfish.
And as S1 Act 1 progresses, and Vi expresses a will to fight, to rebel, to revolt, she is constantly and consistently shut down and discouraged from that way of thinking by her father figure. She's fifteen years old or so, Vander is the only authority figure in her life that she respects. Why wouldnât she internalize any of this as is, let alone after all the tragedy she's forced to endure at the end of this act?
Then we get to tragedy. Vander tells her two very specific things before and after the showdown with Silco.
"Take care of the family."
"Take care of Powder."
You know. Not, "hey, take over my mantle as Hound of the Underground."
Or "lead Zaun to freedom" or whatever the fuck.
He tells her to look after their family. The people closest to Vi.
And I don't know how many of you are older siblings. Or even older sisters. But I question if some of Vi's most heated critics are either neither of those things or lack any knowledge of sibling dynamics, period. When you are handed this tiny baby from a young age and are told "this is your baby sibling, you have to help take care of them, we won't always be here but they'll always have you" by your parents, that shit sticks with you forever. For better or worse.
If you're parentified on top of that through either circumstance or abuse, then that sentiment turns toxic. Vander, as well-meaning as he is in his talks with Vi, inadvertently presents a pretty black and white viewpoint. When paired with Vi's reaction to his (first) death and learning what Powder did, it becomes even worse.
Think about it. Most people seem to focus solely on Vi's anger issues when she strikes Powder for obvious reasons. But there's this selfishness that Vi temporarily succumbs to when she hits Powder as well. She's not thinking of Powder's emotional state or devastation as she realizes what she's done, Vi is mired in her own grief and anger.
She then walks away from Powder to take a moment to herself and presumably recollect her own composure, also a selfish move.
Now, when I call these actions selfish, I'm not assigning any negative connotations to them. Selfishness is not always a bad thing, putting yourself and your own needs first does not make someone a bad person by default. It can be healthy to take some time for self-care.
The "issue" is that Arcane is a tragedy. The narrative punishes Vi for lashing out and temporarily leaving Powder by having Marcus kidnap her and Silco adopt her sister. Not that Vi even knows that much when it happens. For all she knew, Silco murdered Powder.
So, then Vi spends something like seven years in Stillwater in constant limbo wondering if Powder is even alive. The sheer guilt she must have felt at "failing" to protect her baby sister would have likely been agonizing.
Seven.
Years.
Then she gets out. And all Vi cares about is finding her sister. She doesn't care about the Hexgem besides the fact that it's directly related to Jinx, and Caitlyn lied to her by ommission about it.
She's not trying to retake the Lanes in Vander's name. She only cares about bringing Silco's empire down because of what he did to her family. She wants her sister back first and foremost, she does not care to stick with the Firelights and even leaves Ekko and Cailtyn on the bridge initially to go after Jinx.
It's really her burgeoning feelings for Caitlyn that ever cracks this near obsessive compulsion to chase after her sister. Vi was going to choose Jinx until the point Caitlyn was injured and then the both of them were shot at by Jinx.
Even the moment she falls in love with Caitlyn is tied to her guilt about leaving Powder. The story she tells while they're on Caitlynâs bed, her obvious grief and guilt over her sister. She's mired in this moment of pain until Caitlyn reaches out to comfort her. Like, Jinx and Caitlyn have always been intertwined in Vi's arc after she meets Caitlyn. There is no overarching thread to connect Vi to any of the political plot points in this story.
Vi's arc is character driven. Always has been. She's motivated by her warring desire to protect those she loves with EVERYTHING she has, and this by now guilty pleasure to finally develop something purely for herself.
It's why she pushes Caitlyn away during the infamous Oil and Water breakup. The class differences she's citing are an excuse, an easy thing she can point at to push Caitlyn away. What's really going on is that she failed to get the Council to decisively act against Silco. She's failed Jinx again in her own mind, he's still out there poisoning her mind, and now she needs to take care of him herself. Caitlyn proved to be a distraction from her goal, and so must be removed.
Even after teaming up with Jayce and then going her own way, Vi does not go after more shimmer factories. She's not rallying the Lanes to revolt with Hextech weaponry in (on) hand. She immediately goes to the Last Drop to challenge Sevika, someone she hates specifically because she'd betrayed Vander. She had every intention to confront Silco right after that.
Then we get the tea party, and Vi has to come to terms with the fact that the sister she loved is fundamentally changed in more ways than one. She's given an ultimatum to choose between her self-imposed duty as an older sister and Caitlyn. The only relationship Vi has ever formed purely for herself.
And she can't do it. It's an impossible choice. Jinx ends up triggered intensely, Caitlyn is struck by indecision and doesn't take the shot because of Vi's pleas, and Jinx goes on to fire that rocket.
Like this is just Season. One. Every single important character moment Vi has is tied to either Jinx, Caitlyn, or both. This is not a new thing S2 did with Vi's character. Her arc was always about how much she was giving to other characters without much thought to herself.
I just don't get how some people expected that to radically change in S2. It was never going to happen. I'll probably make an analysis on S2 Vi as well, but this is already getting very long. It's also a good way to remind some folks that each season of this show does not exist in a vacuum. I've read a lot of takes that seem to just... ignore S1. It's pretty bizarre.

â s1!jayvik headcanons ïŒ(ïŒĂïŒ)
synopsis: viktor and jayce need the help of a new investor to keep up with their research and fall in love with his daughter <3
tw: suggestive, reader is an spoiled brat, established!jayvik, not canon obv, jayceâs lowk pathetic, reader calls her father âdaddyâ, viktor takes the lead, choking mention if u squint, etc.
s1!jayvik who, with skyâs help, managed to find an aristocrat in piltover who was willing to meet with them and talk about hextech.
s1!jayvik who attend to your maybe-too-big mansion to discuss terms with your father while having dinner, and you were there too (àčâčáșâč)
s1!jayvik who were known all over topside for being a pair of handsome inventors and curiosity peeked trough you, fixated on meeting them.
s1!jayvik who expected your father and your father alone, jayce shy at your presence and viktor already staging ways to approach you later.
s1!jayvik who, while dinner occurs, donât fail to notice your cute curls and your lipstick a beautiful shade of crimson, you just playing a fool even though you knew you caught their eye the first second they stepped inside your house.
s1!jayce whoâs mesmerized in the way your lips wrap around the fork to take a bite, on how you push your long hair aside while drinking, maybe even how your necklace decorated your throat, thinking his hand would look better (Êá”Ì©Ì© á”Ì©Ì©â
)
s1!jayce who feels the real shame every time he has to excuse himself to your father because he didnât really paid attention to what he said. such a silly boy :(
s1!viktor whoâs a lot better at hiding his lustful gazes, having the investment a priority; after getting the accord, he can worry about how heâll get under your garments.
s1!viktor who actually listens and actually eats something at the dinner.
s1!viktor who notices deeper details about you, the moles all over your skin, the number of little diamonds your ring had, the way one of your eyebrows was thinner than the other (how your breast almost spilled out of your white dress), you know, deeper details âĄïż«Ü«ïż©âĄ
â â ăăăâso, I need to make sure my money is sent to smart hands, gentlemen, can you show me anything about this hextech thing?â your dad spoke in a deep voice that echoed the grand dining room, contrasting with the soft violin playing on the background.
â â ăăăâof course! we brought tons of sketches and studies and analysis andââ jayce implied excited, always happy to talk about the project of his life, being interrupted by viktorâs skinny hand on his shoulder while the other one passed a notebook to your father.
â â ăăăâthatâs all youâre actually interested in, sir.â he declared with a thick accent, it made you curious to know where it belonged to.
s1!jayce who anxiously plays with viktorâs brace under the table, tracing its shape while shaking his leg, looking adorably concerned.
s1!viktor who caresses the big hand that toyed with the metal around his calf and knee, circling motions over his knuckles to calm his partner down.
â â ăăăyour father didnât seem to really trust the idea brought to the table, the implication of magic clashing with his ideals. therefore you leaned closer to him, head against his shoulder as you read the notebook as well, noticing viktorâs neat handwriting.
â â ăăăâoh, daddy, isnât this just so so so interesting?â you voiced with a honey sweet tone, locking his arm with your own.
â â ăăăâlook, portals to quickly travel between regions? imagine all the money piltover would make, all thanks to you investing in âem.â you murmured now, locking eyes with viktor, who was smirking at you subtly, jayce too nervous to even hear what you said (âïžżââż)
â â ăăăâhmm, still, darling, magic?â your father questioned with a slight disgust in his voice, putting the papers down and sighing while massaging his mustache.
â â ăăăâwasnât piltover the city of progress? this really seems like progress to meâŠâ you looked at him with a pout plastered on your juicy lips. âi think leaving old stigmas and taboos behind is really⊠progressy.â
s1!jayvik who watch you leave towards the gardens after making your father deal with them a crazy amount of money with just some puppy eyes and sultry voice.
s1!jayvik who catch a glimpse of your white nightgown covering the grass of said garden while you sat down, playing around with a stray cat, it almost seemed like you were waiting for them.
s1!jayvik who approach you after viktor insisted, to thank you, and maybe have an intimate conversation with you, too.
â â ăăăâthank you for interfering, my lady, if it wasnât for you we wouldâve left empty handed.â viktor confessed while siting down on the stone bench under the white pergola where you sat, the moonlight highlighting your angel-like features, leaving his cane on top of said surface.
â â ăăăjayce sat down in front of you in the floor with some distance, legs crossed and arms propped behind him, tilting his head to the side when he noticed how you scooted closer to him and blushing to this right after.
â â ăăăâwell, it wasnât charity, you know.â you murmur in a sweet tone, curling your hair around your manicured finger as you stood on your knees, taking support from jayceâs thick thigh to end up facing viktor from above, as if you were worshipping him.
â â ăăăthe skinnier man scoffed at this, noticing how your cheek rested now against his inner thigh, how your hair fell down your exposed back as jayce held your hand to take place in the empty space next to you, mimicking how you rested your head to stare at you, viktor caressing his now not so put together hair in a way he seemed to be accustomed already.
â â ăăăâthen, what is it that you desire from us in exchange, little angel?â he questioned with that accent that you started to fall in love with, his thin fingers coming down to hold your chin, making you look up to him.
â â ăăăâmmm, i dunnoâŠâ you feigned hesitation, reaching jayceâs handsome face to scratch behind his ear slowly, noticing how he didnât comply, such a puppy. âmaybe take me to your laboratory and show me your advances from time to time.â you pouted when you felt his thumb smudge some of your expensive lipstick away.
â â ăăăâwouldnât want you two forgetting about me.â you confessed before taking said thumb between your lips, looking up to him. jayce took your smaller hand between his, inhaling your cherry scented hand cream before peppering kisses all over it.
â â ăăăâwe would never forget about you, bunny.â he said softly against your skin, caressing your cheek while you kept on sucking viktorâs finger, adverting your gaze to him now. âyou can come over anytime, maybe we can make you find science more interesting.â
â â ăăăviktor chuckled before emptying your mouth and leaving jayceâs hair be, gaining a whine from both of you. âso it is settled, weâll see you tomorrow at the academy, correct?â he asked while taking his cane to stand up from where he sat, motioning his hand to order jayce to do the same.
â â ăăăyou imitate their actions, tidying your hair before grabbing their holding hands with yours, standing on your tippy toes to leave a noisy smooch against their cheeks, decorating them with the granate of your lips. âyou most definitely will, gentlemen.â
s1!jayvik who donât notice how your father stared at the whole play from the beginning, shaking his head on disappointment at you; always playing around with men.
s1!jayvik who walk towards their ride in silence, jayce still inhaling your lingering scent and the soft of you lips against his cheeks, viktor trying to not think too much about the growing boner you gave him (*_ _)äșș
a/n: iâm obsessed with this setting, part 2 maybe? (*^Ï^)

I like to think Cassandra would have loved Vi.
Not like right away. But more than Tobias.
The main reason is that most of what we know about her is from Caitlyns' perspective. And honestly is makes sense that a 23 year old who still lives at home and has a mother that is powerful feels the way she does about her mom.
But I think about how Cassandra's protectiveness benefits Marcus. Marcus wanted to keep Caitlyn at arms length and Cassandra wanted Caitlyn safe. So I have always wondered if Marcus used this and kept Caitlyn away from more things and blamed it on Cassandra.
This is the big issue between Cassandra and Caitlyn. Her pursuit of her career. And Jayce makes the comment about it not being an esteemed career, and that's the issue. But this is never confirmed by Cassandra.
And what do we know for sure? Cassandra had Caitlyn removed from the force after her was hurt and almost killed. What if this is the actual reason? Regardless of your opinion on enforcers, their line of work would probably be some of the most dangerous in the city. And we are also told she had Caitlyn put on the tent during progress day. She wouldn't do that bc she thinks Caitlyn is above being an enforcer. Actually, they wouldn't make sense at all bc if she's embarrassed by Caitlyn being an enforcer, why make her watch your tent? Bc it wasn't about that. It was about watching Caitlyn and keeping her safe.
And I am not saying she doesn't want Caitlym to be a council member. I'm sure she does. But just bc she wants that doesn't mean she would actively push that. But it is very understandable to actively push for your kid to be safe.
But the 2 things I keep circling back to om why she would have loved Vi is respect and Caitlyn.
I think the reason Cassandra gives Caitlyn that head nod to go after Vi is bc of how Vi acted in the council chambers. Vi just stood in front of the council and basically yelled at them for not doing enough for Zaun.
And we find out in s2 Cassandra made the air clean for Zaun. This doesn't seem like known information. Which means Cassandra helped Zaun not for the praise or recognition, but bc she thought it was the right thing to do.
And Vi just stood in front of the council and showed no fear, and asked them to help Zaun. And yelled at them when they said no. I'm inclined to think Cassandra would have respected that. She may not have thought it was smart. But she would have respected it.
Then we have Caitlyn. Cassandra is never shown pushing relationships onto Caitlyn. Cassandra would know the struggle of being known as a kiramman and not just Cassandra. Vi wears her heart on her sleeve. Another thing that happens in that council meeting is Vi and Caitlyn looking at each other as if the other hung the moon.
I think Cassandra recognized very quickly that Caitlyn had fallen for Vi. And she could see those feelings were returned.
I think Caitlyn is way more like Cassnadra than Tobias. And i think Cassandra knew her daughter better than the audience gives her credit for. From what we have seen of Tobias. We know he wanted to punish Jayce for the explosion in s1 act 1. Not Cassandra. Cassandra sides with Caitlyn to help Jayce. And in s2 act1 he clearly doesn't like Vi. Or that she is there. And he doesn't support Caitlyn at all in s2. Yes. He is grieving. But Caitlyn is grieving and struggling with blaming herself and the weight of filling Cassandra's shoes. And he isn't there for her. And Vi is. And he doesn't seem to realize that Vi is not only helping to support his daughter. But that Caitlyn wants Vi there. It's all over her face.
And yes, we can address the "oh look a stray" comment. But Cassandra wasn't surprised Caitlyn brought a girl home through her window. The stary comment feels more directed at Caitlyn than Vi. Like it's a jab at how she snuck another girl in through the window. Which would imply that Caitlyn isn't serious about Vi.
Then we have Caitlyn and Cassandra's conversation. And how not only did Cassandra let Caitlyn and Vi believes alone in her bedroom afterwords (Yes they are adults but it is still Cassandra's house she could have demanded they can't be in there alone). But Cassandra did what Caitlyn thought Jayce would do. She helped her. She didn't tell her she was wrong. She didn't push back on her. She got her into the meeting with the council.
This got bigger than expected. But I just have a lot to say about it. I know they are small characters based on their screen time. But their impact on Caitlyn is so important and vital to the story. And the more i think about Cassandra, the more i think people really mischaracterize her. I think she loved Caitlyn and her biggest fault was trying to protect her.

Ok, let me start with this by saying that I'm not writing to change anyone's point of view, because honestly? don't care and I'm tired. I just want to share my opinion over this matter. everyone sees and experiences things differently, so with that out of the way...
Like I knew before the season started that there was going to be issues with people if nandor & guillermo went canon, because it wasn't going to happen how they wanted it, if the characters didn't ended up kissing or fucking or the usual, and here we are now..
Anyway! people saying that "we're settling for scraps" let me tell you that we're not. You want a explit love confession, but this is Nandor, that was not going to happen. Now, people say "oh, but he confessed his love to the guide, to all those other people" he didn't, because he was not in love to begin with, he said all those words but there was no feeling or real meaning to them, it was only a rehearsed speech that at this point he has repeated more than 1300+ times. what he feels for guillermo is love, selfless, caring, genuine, love, and this is why this relationship between them feels so different to the other relationships he have with those around. Him giving Guillermo another one of those "I love you" confessions would have made him just another one in the list, but he's not.
This "Unbreakable alliance" speech, has more meaning than any other "I love you" that this dude has been parroting and saying to the first stranger that crosses his way and decided to be nice to him. Also, I know that some people were like "but there's no kiss so it doesn't count" I'm sorry, but like... I'm gonna be honest with you, i think that would have been a bit OOC for both characters to all of a sudden kiss, in front of everyone and the cameras and all that shit. I have always imagined these two having their first kiss in a more private setting and perhaps away from fucking cameras, but hey! that's me.
Let's also not forget in all this, that we have never seen Nandor like this. Nandor all this time has been nothing buy a depressed sad potato even when he was been "in love" with all those others, but finally after so many years, he's feeling alive, because being with Guillermo, having this bond with him, having him as his equal and in his life forever, has given his entire existence a new purpose and a new meaning. He can't see himself living without guillermo now. Guillermo has brought meaning to his life after who knows how many centuries, and he's willing to become a better person for him.
Also! a bonus here! people saying that all the progress of the season was lost and we're back to s1 just because Nandor told Guillermo to let go of his hand, like... are you fucking kidding me? are we for real here? that's just nandor being nandor, that's his personality. what? did you think that just because the guy found the meaning of his life in guillermo (the love of his life. yes. i said it it) he's about to change his entire personality within seconds? it doesn't work like that, no relationship works like that.
so, no, we're not settling for scraps, we're not being delusional. if you're not happy with this, that's ok, but don't assume that everyone is going to feel the same way you do.
For those that are happy with this moment, this was more deep and meaningful and intense than a simple "i love you" or a "simple hand clasp". These are two characters that have realized that they want each other in each other's life, and not because it's a MUST, but because they have chosen for this to be this way, because they want it to be this way, and no one or anything can break this, not even all these difference they have going on between them, one being a vampire, the other being a human & slayer. nandor literally said "fuck that" and let's be together forever.

ă»â„ă»and I just might know you too
the worries of a scientist never go away but you make them slightly better
: ÌÌâ viktor x gn!reader
: ÌÌâ cw: just sweet fluff, s1 act2 vik, angst if you squint your eyes and have watched s2 (but no spoilers so don't worry)
: ÌÌâ wc: 1k+
: ÌÌâ a/n: My finals are coming up and Iâm feeling incredibly stressed so in the spirit of things I thought of making Viktor equally stressed so we can tear our hair out together
Progress Day is only a week away and Viktor couldnât be more stressed. Heâs spent almost every day he can at his lab, opting to sleep in his makeshift bed and eating subpar cafeteria food in order to try and finish the grand machinery he and Jayce have planned to show off.Â
On the rare occasion, you drop by his little lair to leave an important paper from his apartment or a home cooked meal. He gives you a curt thank you and immediately returns to work leaving no time for distraction as you are often his biggest one. You had once come with plans of eating lunch with him, which he greatly appreciated, but had to turn down as he surely would not want to leave your company and work would never be done. So you keep your visits short if only to save Jayce the headache of yet another unfinished stack of papers on his desk.
The week slowly passes, uneventful and boring with Viktor cooped up, unable to share his new findings or sassy wit, which you sorely miss, but soon Progress Day arrives.Â
The entirety of Piltover is buzzing in excitement and everyone at your job canât seem to stop talking about what âGolden Boyâ Talis has in store for them this year. Although it is a very exciting day, your giddiness is not towards the new fancy technology or the colorful parade, but rather a certain, currently distressed, scientist. Your boss yells over the commotion for everyone to settle down before sulking off to his office and you count the minutes until your shift is over.
The moment the clock hand hits three you are out of there, missing your boss once again shouting over the desks demanding a thank you for half-day of work, and rush out the door and towards the trolleys taking people to the center of town. You hop on the back just as one is leaving, nearly tumbling over your impatient feet before grabbing the copper pole, watching as the buildings get smaller in the distance as you approach the ever growing academy building. Leaping off the trolley, you race inside, taking two steps at a time on the several staircases until you find yourself in front of Viktorâs lab once again.
You rap your knuckles against the door once then twice. On the other side you hear light shuffling and the sound of a metal crutch hitting the floor until the door opens to an exhausted looking Viktor.Â
The bags under his eyes have gotten significantly deeper, and his suit quite wrinkled no doubt from hours of hunching over his desk. His face visibly lightens at the sight of youÂ
âWhat a welcome surprise. I thought you were coming here after the ceremony.â
You step through, eyes scanning the messy state of his lab, crumbled paper strewn about the floor and varying sizes of metal gears taking up most of his desk.
âI was but my boss let us out early today. A sign of his endless generosity.â You draw out your words, elegantly throwing your hands up, as your boss is anything but generous. Chuckling to yourself, you spin on your back foot towards Viktor, taking in his disheveled appearance, the fluffy spikes pointing in all different directions. âI hope thatâs okay.â
He lets out a light laugh, nodding his head. âOf course.âÂ
Closing the door behind him and settling into his stool pushed to the corner of his desk, the only part that isnât covered in gears. You saunter over, leaning against the side of the desk, peering at piles of paper with chicken scratch writing that could only belong to Viktor. How heâs able to read his notes is beyond you. One of science's greatest mysteries.Â
The desk creaks as Viktor places his elbows upon it, a hand above his brow then dragging it down his face in frustration, shutting his eyes. A low grumble escapes his chest before he blurts out âI just donât understand.âÂ
You turn your head slightly, but stay silent and let him continue, and he lets out another dejected sigh. âThe professor wonât allow us to present our new technology. We could be changing lives right now.âÂ
Now youâve never been very scientifically inclined, but you have learned that much in the field is controlled by shady deals and red tape through Viktor. This must be another one of those cases and Viktor has never been one to care for what he would call âpetty office politicsâ even concerning the Council.Â
There isnât much you can do other than comfort him, so you take his tired hands in yours, rubbing slow circles over his overworked tendons. âIâm sorry Vik.âÂ
His voice softens, relaxing against your touch. âThere's no need to be sorry. Itâs not your fault.âÂ
He momentarily leaves your hold to guide you in front of him, moving his papers and patting the empty spot on the desk. You oblige and gently take a seat as to not disturb the rest of his contraptions. Opening your legs, you scoot his stool closer with your feet, and he smoothly slots in between, head resting against your chest. The soft beating of your heart calms him, and he melts further into you.Â
Your hand reaches up to brush through his thick hair, tucking it behind his ear, bending down to whisper, âit will all work out. Iâm sure of it.â
He snorts and gives you an incredulous look. âHow can you be so confident?âÂ
Your reply comes easily. âBecause I know you. Youâll find a way. You always have.â
Any response he had dies on his tongue and instead he gives you a sheepish smile, cheeks turning slightly red at your compliment. You smile back, leaning forward to give him a chaste kiss which only turns him even more red. He retreats back to your chest, arms circling around your waist squeezing tighter than before.Â
Perhaps you are right. All this will work out in the end and he can do what he set out to be. Not merely a scientist chained to create whatever his contributors wanted but someone who actually helps people. Perhaps even help the people of Zaun. Give them the same hope you have given him.
He presses a kiss just above your heart, a promise to you and himself that he will stay true to his dream.Â

I'm sitting here rewatching Tua S3 for reasons, and one interesting thing I picked up is that the entire season is really just each of the Umbrellas struggling to define and searching for family in their own way. Here's me laying down some thoughts for y'all:
Luther - For him, family has always been about the team. That's part of the reason he's so drawn to the Sparrows, bc at first they seem to have the cohesiveness that the Umbrellas lacked. Remember, Luther was the last one left at the Academy, then Reginald sent him to the moon alone. So of course seeing a "functional" team is going to be compelling for him, and he desperately wants to be part of it. And then he and Sloane quickly fall in love and for the first time in his entire life, someone wants him for him. It's intoxicating and utterly consuming NRE that is more powerful than anything he's ever felt.
Diego and Lila - For these two, it's about figuring out how to be a family. Both together, but also a little bit with the other Umbrellas. Diego looking out for Allison and Klaus and Lila and Five coming to a truce are part of this - more about Lila and Five in a sec.
Allison - In her mind, her family is Claire and Ray. This one is obvious, but I also think that the writers did us a disservice by not letting us into Allison's perspective. If you think about it, it's completely normal for a parent to put their child above all. While I don't defend her actions, her motivation could have been more compelling and it would have strengthened her character. But sadly she's the character on the show that is most "othered" (which is bad for many reasons)
Klaus - he really dug deep into individual relationships w family, starting with Five (e2 and 5 Five and Klaus bonding are still some of the best bits of the season imo), Diego, Reginald, Sparrow Ben, and then Luther in the afterlife.
Five - Five remains a pragmatist. His bar for family is very low - success for him means the Umbrellas being alive, no matter what the personal cost or sacrifice to him or to some extent others. It is somewhat depressingly delightful to see how he makes his peace with the end of the world as the season progresses. Before that, however, I'd like to meander back to e3 and 4 where Lila convinces him to electrocute himself and then they go on the Commission mission. Both of the actors do a fine job here bouncing back and forth between witty banter and genuine emotion and I love it. It's a quick and subtle piece of dialogue when Five explains how he saved Lila from the Handler. The undertone is that they were both abused by that woman in a similar way - ultimately, she developed and kept them both as pawns in her own game. And I think Five, starting in S2E10 and fleshed out through S3, develops genuine empathy for and eventually acceptance of Lila as family, as one of them, because of this shared experience.
Viktor - Like Viktor in all seasons, he continues to feel out of place with the Umbrellas and compensates by over-prioritizing his relationships with others. Don't get me wrong, I do empathize with him that he lost real love with Sissy and Halan, but I also think Allison was 100% valid to call him out on his lying in E6, and it was on point to verbalize how the constant focus on Viktors pain minimizes her (and everyone else's) experience. (Edit to add: Viktor finally seems to get the message on this, after being called out by Allison, then subsequently both Sparrow Ben and Five, and spends the last few episodes trying to make amends. Real character development here and I like to see it)
Reginald - Well, his overarching motivation since S1 has always been bringing back his dead wife, so I won't belabor that, but also it's interesting to see how he interacted with Klaus particularly - esp in E7 when he sobers up it seems he is experimenting with remembering his role as a father. Now we don't get a ton about his internal motivation here, but you can tell there is some mild curiosity, if not affection, for Klaus, despite the fact that he ultimately is cool with sacrificing him.
Some of these are more obvious than others, but when you tie them all together, the idea that they are all desperately looking for family and the blind spots that that creates for them, some of the messiness of S3 starts to make a bit more sense.

There are few things I hate more than those type of whiny, reactionary redditor fanboys who blame feminism when they donât like their latest star war. But like genuinely HOTD has completely thrown out itsâ entire plot in favor of milquetoast, contradictory, vaguely feminist rhetoric. Bioessentialism but like in a progressive way lol.
These damn bloodthirsty men are icing out the gentle, capable women who can actually lead⊠except neither of our female leads have done anything or shown any desire to do anything.
That Alicole scene where she tells him to fuck off after he says heâs protecting her from war since she doesnât have the guts for it is clearly meant to portray Cole in the wrong, but like heâs genuinely right? This version of Alicent doesnât even believe in the Greensâ claim, doesnât want to fight, and inexplicably has not viewed Rhaenyra as an enemy since Driftmark. Why would she want to be Regent during a war effort? And why should the Greens entrust her in that role when sheâs done nothing but make doe eyes at Rhaenyra? On the flip side, Jaceâs frustration with his mother is also meant to be viewed similarly, but itâs the same story! She disappeared for days right after an assassination attempt at the height (kinda?) of a war, left her council in disarray, all to just kinda ask Alicent to end the war with no real plan of how to do that.
This show canât decide if Rhaenyra and Alicent are the main players in the Dance, or helpless victims to the war machine of men around them. It tries to paint both as true at the same time, so neither message really lands.
And the actual conflict at the heart of this story? All wasted in the face of that nonsense. The final shot of S1 with Rhaenyra turning around âwar in her eyesâ was thrown out the window once that Sept scene happened. Green dress moment? Few episodes later and Alicent canât stop talking about how good a Queen Rhaenyra will be lol. She doesnât even know whatâs going on in the Green Council. Blood and Cheese? I donât think Jaeherysâ name has been said since then, the ratcatchers and that damn dog have had a larger impact on the narrative.
An actual âfeministâ story for lack of a better word, would see these two women fight a war based on their own motives and desires, not because they think dad said itâs their turn on the throne. Or fully commit to the other side; the evil men commit all these atrocities, but in the end history still slanders the women for it all. When you try and do both, neither makes sense.
#hotd critical#iâve typed this silly rant several different times#so idk how much sense it makes but yk yk#rant#long post

this is all my personal opinion as a somewhat new arcane enjoyer.
act 3 of arcane really ruined it all for me. one of the things that makes me love shows so much is when they make me just feel so so much. and arcane did this so well, especially in s1. act 1 and 2 of s2 also did this very well, tho not even close to as well as s1 in my opinion.
i felt sad about isha's death, but i don't really care about jinx's. this isn't bc i cared more abt isha than jinx, a million percent no, this is bc it didnt feel liek there was any weight to it. we saw a very small clip of vi sobbing then, boom, she's almost fine???? her humming powder's lullaby isn't enough, i need to see her grieve. jinx literally completely gave up because of isha's death. vi wasn't even close to being in the same position as jinx but that was still her sister. her sister whom she tried so hard to protect and get back and finally got her back. it just didn't feel real. and on top of that, everyone thinks she's not actually dead. i wish they showed the "proof" of that later or something because i needed that grieving period from vi.
i felt so strongly about jayvik and their whole dynamic snd ending this season. in act 2 i felt that the writing for caitvi wasn't as good as it was in s1 and act 1 but then it just pissed me off at the end. i kinda liked the fact that they were in a cell when they had sex lol but i feel like it was weird timing and also could be a weird setting. but what rlly got me was the fact they don't fucking talk. they dont talk it out. one of the bjggest reasons i love jayvik is because of their lines too eachother. theyre so devestating and beautiful and thats what we got with caitvi before act 2. i was hoping they would talk about alllll the problems they were having because they were having a lot but, either they didn't or we just didn't see it. the resolution to jayvik was so satisfying because we got to know all of their closing thoughts and emotions. we didn't get to see cait apologizing or vi talking abt jinx and it just felt so emotionless.
im really sad they got rid of all the political stuff. i feel like the first step to doing that was putting vi in an enforcer outfit but with that i thought theyd explore into it and the trauma around it even more. but they didnt at all. they put more of the oppressed into the oppressors outfits and called it "fighting against a greater evil" i think thats a fine thing to happen but not if you throw away the whole conversation about politics you were having beforehand. i felt enger towards the piltover people and council just because they were a part of the oppressive regime. after s1 i felt like they tried to act like those ppl were never in the wrong. they swept it all under the rug.
it really just felt like there wasn't a clear conclusion. what happened to zaun and piltover? the scene of sevika sitting at the table isn't enough (don't get me started on sevika I MISS HER). what happened to the firelights?? everyone says ekko lost everything but like do we know what happened to the tree or to the firelights??? i wanted to see the progress the two cities made and how PILTOVER compensated for their actions.
thats it ig, im rlly trying to be happy abt the ending and to do that i have to think abt jayvik bc theyre the only perfect ending in my eyes and i miss caitvi i miss them

im so upset over season 2 man. im venting rn, but if they just followed the most obvious progression after the end of season 1 it literally would have been fine, even without the other writers. like what tf happened. how do you screw up that bad. they added so many things that just did not need to happen.
also i can't read these writers interviews anymore they seem to be genuinely stupid like how did they ever end up in charge of this
like the intro and the trailers somehow have a better plot than the actual season
What truly upsets me is lost potential. The cinema is now full of remakes, live actions and sequels with prequels from famous franchises. And lately, the level of writing has also been disappointing. But Arcane? It was different. It was so fucking good dammit. It stood out for it's elaboration of characters and story. It was level ahead of everything else in recent years. But what did we get in s2? Product of mcu level. Nothing as deep as in s1. Nothing so well written that you can empathize with seemingly "bad" people. Nothing logical in character's actions. Just fan-service with ships and big badass battle in the end. And it's not like it's very very bad. I can think of media that is much worse. But to say that Arcane is "not as shitty as it could be"? I never imagined that I would say such a thing. Arcane shouldn't be on the same level as mcu for goddess's sake. That's what is really sad.

Mike Wheeler: Trauma, Insecurity, and "STurn" (Analysis)
In "From the Hair Chair: Finn Wolfhard | Stranger Things", which is available on the official Stranger Things YouTube channel, Finn Wolfhard addresses the question, "What's going on with Mike Wheeler in Season 4?"
Mike Wheelerâs behavior in S4 has confused many, especially general audiences. However, if you look at the bigger picture, his progression (or regression) into the Mike Wheeler we know from S4 does make sense. To get a clear idea of whatâs going on with him, we must look at the four seasons sequentially and with a more subtextual eye. We have a few physical puzzle pieces, and for now, we need to fill in the rest with our imagination based on evidence. A Mike point of view isnât particularly needed to fully understand this, although it would be helpful for the GA and is something I want from S5.
In relation to this particular interview, Iâll examine Stranger Things (2016) for the past and present and âSTurnâ for the possible future. âSTurnâ actually does tell us a bit about how Mikeâs self-identity arc will potentially continue in S5 and wrap up.
Also, I understand that âSTurnâ isnât factual and is not even confirmed to be related to ST5. Though I donât believe this entire analysis is instantly negated by my use of the playlist, as its only purpose here is to assume a hypothetical future. Aside from the Finn interview, everything else comes straight from the show and holds a reasonable explanation for Mikeâs behavior up until the end of S4.
Remember, this post is for fun and speculation, and "STurn" is the best we have right now. Just keep in mind that Iâm going into this analysis assuming itâs related to Mike Wheeler in S5. I could be entirely incorrect. Similarly, this interview isnât wholly factual either, as itâs not whatâs in the show, but it relates enough to what weâve been shown of Mike for me to comment on.
This might be a lengthier post. Be warned.
If youâre still here and interested, Iâll get right into it.
Trauma
Finn first addresses how each of the characters are dealing with their past trauma, and that is a perfect way to describe Mikeâs behavior in S4. I think a lot of people, especially the general audience, forget that, yes, while these are all characters, trauma does have the ability to affect them and change their behavior. There was an entire âYour original character before trauma vs. after traumaâ trend on TikTok a minute back, and that wasnât for nothing.Â
Mike, just in S1, witnessed one of his best friends go missing, watched this best friend turn up apparently dead (as well as see his âbodyâ), went to his funeral, jumped off of a ledge, saw his other newfound friend disappear, and so much more. Don't even get me started on the following seasons.
Mike is afraid of losing. Thatâs what happened to him in S1. He lost. First Will, then El.Â
His fear of loss and determination to keep things in his life are significant parts of his character and have been since S1. Thatâs why he was so intent on finding Will. That's why he checked his walkie for El every night. Thatâs why he acts out in S3-S4. This isnât an excuse for his behavior, but an explanation. Itâs part of his trauma, and we see this in S4 with his fear of losing Will and El again: âMaybe I feel like I lost you or something,â and âI can't lose you,â respectively. I theorize that he fears being out of control regarding these things.
A lack of control also explains why he was so volatile to Will and El during and after Rink-O-Mania. For Will, Mike addresses this directly to him when he apologizes. Itâs made evident to the audience that he acted cold in part because he thought Will was slipping away, but truthfully, he wasnât aloof. He noticed everything about Willâs behavior and even managed to make the tragedy of that day about their friendship. Now, back to the apology, âAbout the last few days⊠You didnât deserve anything⊠The truth is, the last year has been weird⊠Maybe I was worrying too much about El⊠And, I donât know, maybe I feel like I lost you or something.â His defensiveness during the argument at the rink seems more like a trauma response than straight-up disinterest, which some people apparently think.
For El, I think this translates into him wanting her to need him. If El needs him, then thereâs no way he can lose her, right? We know from the show that she doesnât need him anymore. Mike also acknowledges this multiple times, and that thought terrifies him. In the last episode, he explains this to her, â... The truth is, El, I donât know how to live without you⊠I canât lose you, okay?â
Before Will shows Mike the painting in the van, Mike explains his dilemma. Will tries reassuring Mike, telling him that El will be fine, and Mike says he understands that. Mike then explains his true concern, âBut what if after all this is over, she doesnât need me anymore?... The truth is, when I stumbled on her in the woods, she just needed someone. Itâs not fate, itâs not destiny, itâs just simple dumb luck. And one day, she's gonna realize that Iâm just some random nerd that got lucky that Superman landed on his doorstep. I mean, at least Lois Lane is an ace reporter for The Daily Planet.âÂ
Will continues to comfort him, focusing more on the loss aspect of Mikeâs trauma, which is made evident here. But those lines also make it clear that Mike is afraid El will realize his inferiority to her and abandon him. This is a good transition into Mikeâs insecurity.
Insecurity
Iâve seen people argue against what Finn says here because Mike is part of the somewhat âoutcastâ group at school. I donât think trying to argue that takes away from the fact that Mike did, does, and will continue to try and lead a ânormalâ lifestyle. Heâs a teenage boy with a girlfriend and a friend group he fits into. Thatâs normal. Heâs trying to get by.Â
It was the same in S3. Mike was a kid with friends, a girlfriend, and a new want for maturity. Itâs not unrealistic that the character is aging out of or into specific behaviors, especially ones that heâs previously exhibited. That leads us to his insecurity.Â
Weâve had hints of it starting as far back as S1E3, when Troy injures Mike, and he initially lies about it to El so that he doesnât seem like a loser. Similarly, these themes pick up with Will in S3E3 during their fight in the rain, â...Weâre not kids anymore. I mean, what did you think, really? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we were just gonna sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?â
Curiously, Mike is shown to be especially ânormalâ in California. He dresses differently than he does in Hawkins and acts more aloof. As Argyle says, âItâs a shitty knock-off.â Skipping forward to the â... She's gonna realize that Iâm just some random nerd that got lucky that Superman landed on his doorstep⊠at least Lois Lane is an ace reporter for The Daily Planetâ line, and we have a good enough view of Mikeâs internal conflict.
He is deeply insecure, and it seems particularly so around El. I donât know if this was addressed in the show, and I wish we had seen some of Mikeâs letters, but does El even know about the Hellfire Club? I donât believe weâre given any indication that she does, which could imply that Mike kept it hidden from her. It wouldnât be surprising, considering his complete attitude change in California. Also keeping in mind that Mike stopped playing D&D when he was with her in S3 and only continued to play in S4 while El was away.
Mike also displays this insecurity by choosing to distance Will. For what reason, I canât say for sure, but itâs probably something âabnormal.âÂ
Regardless, his insecurity ties into his fear of loss. The more normal he is, the more things he can maintain in life and the less he has to lose. Especially when it comes to El. It all stems back to his fear, not genuine malintent, and I see too many viewers misunderstand this.Â
It also works the opposite way, to a different and lesser extent. If heâs out of Hellfire Club, he loses his ânormal teenage clique.â Aside from losing El completely as someone he profoundly cares about, if he loses El as a partner, he loses his girlfriend. Thatâs a blow to his normality.Â
Will is confusing to me. If he âlosesâ Will, just like he felt he did at the beginning of S4, he falls more into the pattern of trying to be normal. Thereâs no impact on his normality. By keeping Will at arms-length, Mike gravitated more towards his âshitty knock-offâ version of himself. Something about Will brings out what Mike feels is abnormal in him, so by distancing himself, he could avoid it altogether. Thatâs likely in part what caused such a conflict at the beginning of S4: Mikeâs inability to be ânormalâ while fully keeping Will in his life and vice versa, his inability to lose Will just to maintain normalcy.
"STurn"
Weâve focused on trauma and insecurity. Now, itâs time for self-identity. I think that's a theme in store for the future. I'll refer back to the âSTurnâ analysis I previously did.
Many of the songs on this playlist contain themes of a false identity. Iâll start with âAngst In My Pantsâ first. To quote my "STurn" analysis:
This song is about a person attempting to be someone they're not, suppressing who they really are, and it ultimately leading to dissatisfaction. The lyrics, "You can dress nautical / Learn to tie knots / Take lots of Dramamine / Out on your yacht" describe a faux lifestyle one lives that only serves to hurt them in the end: The idea of putting on a self-harming persona. This could be what Mike is going through in S5.
Next, we have "Substitute":
This track is about an idealized version of someone being put in place of their true self. The narrator describes a scenario in which their partner sees a version of them, "I'm a substitute for another guy / I look pretty tall but my heels are high / The simple things you see are all complicated / I look bloody young, but I'm just back-dated, yeah", that is unrealistic and put on, as seen in the lyrics "Substitute your lies for fact / I see right through your plastic mac / I look all white, but my dad was black / My fine-looking suit is really made out of sack"... The concept of a guise applies well to Mike, as referenced in Angst In My Pants. A recurring theme of hiding oneself really makes me think Mike is going to completely abandon his interests for a different lifestyle. I believe Finn has also mentioned that Mike wants to be as "normal" as possible, so I can't wait to see [how far] they take that idea. It could also be him realizing how he's been acting, and admitting that this "romanticized" version isn't true to him.
Finally, "The Rebel Kind":
Like The Better Side, I couldn't find any lyrics, so I'm doing it by ear. Though, I'm happy to say that this song is about a desire to embrace differences and rebellion. "We'll be free to run with the rebel kind" and "It's not easy, but I don't mind / I just want to run with the rebel kind" establish that. The track appears to tie into Mike's insecurity struggles throughout the playlist. It could be the narrator's struggle to keep up with societal norms before finally giving in to their truth instead of trying to conform, read as "they call us rebels but don't get how hard it is to for us to keep up." On the other hand, it could be the narrator commenting on how society doesn't understand people like them, and, by embracing their true selves, it proves more about who they are than conforming ever would; read as, "you think we're the rebellious ones, but you don't understand that we're more self-secure and strong than you'll ever be." I can see both of these interpretations working for Mike and his connection to the Party. The progression of insecurity in Angst In My Pants and potential realization of this guise in Substitute is wrapped up by Mike's self-acceptance here. I really hope this is how it plays out in S5.
Conclusion
Mike's brewing insecurity, paired with his trauma of loss, seems like it may boil over in S5. I theorize that heâll drift even more into his âshitty knock-offâ self, even if just on the surface, and do whatever he can to maintain normalcy in his life. Whether this leads to more conflict with Will, weâll have to wait and see.
Besides that, Mike might eventually accept his "differences." He also may be willing to cope with loss for what it is, even if itâs the loss of the normalcy he tries so hard to maintain in certain situations. I can see Mike having a heavy emphasis on self-identity in S5, and as I said earlier, I canât wait to see where they take that.
Thank you for reading; I hope you enjoyed!
As is customary with all my posts, if anything here is incorrect or you believe thereâs something I should add, feel free to let me know. Iâd love to have more conversations about Mike and read all the predictions for S5 I can.

pretty pleeeease tell me more about this and your ideas for a pjo show directed by you? đ„șđđ
of courseee thanks for asking! most of the points were covered in OP's post but your ask has given me an opportunity to think more about it and expand it more so thanks again!!
(disclaimer: this is really long and I also wanted to say pjotv is a really good piece of cinema even though rick had no experience in film at all and if anyone doesn't agree about anything, don't be mean about it!!)
I mourned the breaking of the fourth wall in pjotv. when rick mentioned that the writing team were thinking of new ways to show percy's internal narration, I expected a LOT of fourth wall breaking. here is a few low effort doodles on how fourth wall breaking could work because I don't have coherent thoughts on describing it in words
When it comes to animation, ugh there are so much things I could say. imagine the funky expressions. Imagine the potential for it to look stunning like the animation for arcane and into the spiderverse. imagine the awards it could get for best animation.
Or i really really LOVE those little animations within live action like how the autumn leaves fly around Nick and charlie in heartstopper and it'd be really cute in pjo with,,like blue hearts from percy and grey hearts from annabeth ugh <3
I'm sure lot of people wouldn't agree but I felt there was wayy less of platonic percabeth in pjo tv s1. a lot of it was deep like all the sacrifices and all the romantic stares which everyone keeps making edits of and whatever. but there was no chance to show their proper development as friends. so in my pjotv there's mostly only platonic percabeth with the little sprinkle of hints of having a crush like how it is in the book.
There's full room for the show makers to do this in the coming seasons, but I love the idea of the characters starting out with a light palette (pale blues/greens for percy, for example) and then getting progressively darker and darker in colour (blacks/dark blues) throughout the seasons, because I love a good story told through fashion <3
No other changes to the plot except extra scenes for character development (sally/Poseidon/lil percy flashbacks), new character nuances (medusa/annabeth parallels aka the most genius thing to come out of pjotv).
speaking on the humour, I would trash seriousness and just give pjo lot of the elements of a sitcom. like you know how sometimes in between sitcoms they have little interviews where they reflect on what they're doing like
this also helps the internal narration aspect. bonus points if rick is the off screen interviewer
of course if it was animated, walker and leah could voice act, but it'd be weird for a black girl to voice a blonde white girl. but i really do love mixed canon annabeth and percy so the animated version of them would be annabeth with tinted blonde hair and well if you really like blonde percy we can have his blonde roots showing BUT ONLY IF WALKER AND LEAH ARE VOICE ACTING
THEME SONG!!! a banger with a silly montage that will send nostalgic memories rushing through your brain and make you sing along even after 10 years because ITS SUCH A CORE MEMORY
I don't know if you know the tlt musical but I would definitely make the campfire song from that as the pjotv campfire song and little good kid instrumentals here and there
also I forgot to mention you're the screenwriter because I really liked your screenplay that you posted
if you read this till the end, finley, honestly???congratulations!!

arcane s2 - review
okay so now that i have given my two cents on caitvi and i've had enough time to digest s2 of arcane, what do i think about the rest of it?
overall, i have mixed feelings about it. i didn't hate it but i feel like a lot of the themes and ideas were poorly executed, especially compared to s1.
(huge spoilers to arcane below!)
but let me start with the positives:
the animation OBVIOUSLY. huge props to the animators, s1 was already phenomenonal and s2 lived up to the hype, animation-wise. the fight scenes especially were just *mwah* chef's kiss.
the character designs were great. caitlyn looks a lot prettier with the middle parting. vi's emo phase is really hot. jinx's designs in the alternate universe and the finale were iconic. jayce's beard and disheveled look was just chef's kiss. jesus viktor was hot as fuck.
the voice actors did an amazing job obviously, and i didn't expect anything less from them.
jayce's and viktor's relationship was so good despite not having all that much screentime when you think about it. they interact in the beginning when viktor wakes up from his hex-coma and then reunite and fight and make up in the final few episodes. but because of their relationship that was built up in the first season, it all worked out smoothly and made for a very natural progression in their relationship.
jinx's redemption was pretty good. not the BEST but it was carried out well enough, especially in just 9 episodes. i didn't feel like it was rushed or undeserved. her sacrifice in the end was heartbreaking but it felt natural and not shoehorned in for some added angst.
and now for the negatives:
1. the pacing was really bad, in my opinion. they had only 9 episodes but they stuffed in so many subplots into this season that it felt overwhelming.
maybe i'm just stupid but i couldn't keep up with half of the stuff that was going on and some parts of the finale didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
like the whole storyline with mel and ambessa and the black rose was a blur to me. i honestly don't know what happened in the end after ambessa dies.
the whole deal with singed and vander and whatnot was also really murky. like i get the overall premise but it was really hard for me to grasp every single detail.
maybe this is just a me problem and i'm too dumb to follow more than two storylines at the same time. but s1 already had a lot going on and it was still a tad bit easier to follow.
s2 was just crammed with a whole bunch of different characters pursuing different goals and facing different obstacles, 9 episodes weren't enough to give all of it a satisfying conclusion. and as a result, some of the arcs felt rushed and unfinished.
like what happened to the whole found family thing with sevika, jinx and isha? they were beginning to get closer and form a good relationship but then suddenly, sevika is pushed out of the image and we never see how she reacts to jinx and isha's death.
2. while i don't think that caitvi is abusive, i still don't think the ship was great. it was just super rushed and there is a grain of truth to what caitvi antis are saying.
like yeah, caitlyn being an enforcer and seeing nothing wrong with it was.. questionable. wasn't the whole point of s1 that enforcers were ruining the lives of the people in zaun? wasn't police brutality and classism the main theme of this series? how come vi's parents were killed by enforcers and she was unfairly imprisoned for years by enforcers, but somehow she ends up dating an enforcer?
before s2 came out, i expected caitlyn to give up her job after realizing how corrupt it was. i thought that would be the natural progression of her arc, especially since she's seen how much the people of the undercity has suffered at the hands of enforcers. but nope, she keeps her job and it's never addressed in the end.
i don't think that caitlyn hitting vi once out of frustration and once out of necessity makes her a domestic abuser. but i do think it's kind of icky for vi to end up in a relationship with an enforcer, and for the show to frame it in a semi-positive manner. it's not entirely romanticized but the problems with it aren't really addressed either.
3. i feel like the themes of classism wasn't as well addressed in this season as it was in the first one. the first season had a strong message and it stuck to it. the second season was all over the place and then suddenly, there's viktor and the whole glorious evolution or whatever, and the conflict between piltover and zaun is pushed aside.
i like that sevika becomes part of the council in the end but is she the only one representing the undercity? is one person enough to speak for all these people in zaun? at least it's true to real life, i guess.
overall, i felt like the message was a lot more murky in this season. this ties to my first complaint because while s1 had a lot of storylines too, they followed a common theme. war, classism, and how privilege and the lack thereof affects people. s2's storylines are just all over the place and none of them seem to follow a theme. at least some of them could have been discarded.
4. i briefly mentioned this before but the fact that jinx stops experiencing her hallucinations never made sense to me. especially after she accidentally killed silco, shouldn't they get worse? it is implied that she has schizophrenia and c-ptsd so i really don't understand how silco's death suddenly got rid of most of her symptoms.
she still sees and hears the hallucinations from time to time and her mental state is definitely far from stable, but it was still such a huge jump from her psychotic breakdown in the s1 finale.
so yeah, these are my thoughts about arcane s2. there were more pros than cons but the cons still outweigh the pros, simply because of how much impact they had on the plot.
i'm generally not one to demand more seasons or episodes out of a series where the writers have already told the story they wanted to tell, but arcane s2 was so rushed and so filled to the brim with different characters and storylines, i couldn't help but feel like it would have benefited from having more episodes to play everything out more slowly.
i still liked this series a lot and i enjoyed watching it, but i'm not blind to its flaws and i try not to be biased.
