So @tawnyontumblr suggested sharing some WIPs for #shareitsunday, and since I’m working on a Good Omens fic for #IneffablyAusten, I thought I’d give it a try.  It’s a GO AU drawing on Northanger Abbey (as you will immediately spot) and it is being equal parts huge fun and a complete bastard to get right.  Here’s 600 words from the first chapter.  I haven’t shared fanfic before; let me know what you think!
They returned to the refreshments table to seek out fresh glasses, while Mr Crowley was attempting to explain some half-remembered newspaper report on a recent lecture at the Royal Society upon marine life.
“My dear sir,” said Aziraphale, laughing despite himself, “you must be misremembering.  It cannot possibly have described dolphins in those terms.”
“Here is a man who did not read the article, and yet presumes to inform me what it said!” said Mr Crowley with a smile, and he sank in a sprawl of limbs onto a fainting couch. Aziraphale took a chair with a far more decorous posture, and the slightest roll of the eyes, which Mr Crowley caught.
"I see what you think of me," he said gravely.  "I shall make but a poor figure in your journal tomorrow."
“My journal!"
“Yes, I know exactly what you will say: Thursday, went to the Lower Rooms; wore my ivory waistcoat with blue trimmings, the Sentimental cravat, plain brown shoes – appeared to much advantage; but was strangely harassed by a queer, half-witted man, who would make me dance with him, and distressed me by his nonsense."
“Indeed I shall say no such thing."
Mr Crowley leaned in a little, not enough to be at all inappropriate, but just enough for Aziraphale to notice.  “Shall I tell you what you ought to say?"
“If you please."
“I danced with a very agreeable man, introduced by our mutual friend; had a great deal of conversation with him – seems a most extraordinary genius – hope I may know more of him. That, sir, is what I wish you to say."
Aziraphale hardly knew whether to hold his gaze or glance away.  “But, perhaps, sir, I keep no journal."
“Perhaps you are not sitting in this room, and I am not sitting by you. These are points in which a doubt is equally possible. Not keep a journal! How are your absent family to understand the adventures and excitement of your life in Bath without one? How are your various outfits to be remembered, and the particular choice of your cravat, and the curl of your hair to be described in all their diversities, without having constant recourse to a journal? Tell me, Mr Fell,” he leaned in closer, “how are you to turn these few weeks of society living into valuable and pertinent sermons for your parishioners without a journal?  For you are certain to encounter perfect living illustrations on vanity, on avarice, on kindness and on charity – you have already demonstrated a true example of Christian charity since you arrived – and you risk letting the details slip from memory if you will not write them down.”
Aziraphale took another gulp of wine.  Somehow his mouth had contrived to go quite dry.  “And what will your journal say in the morning, Mr Crowley?”
He looked away into the crowd, and was silent a moment.  “That I learned angels truly do exist.”  He drained his glass.  “Thank you for your company, Mr Fell, but I have taken up too much of your time already. I shall circulate a little, and let you do the same.  It was a pleasure to meet you.”  With a wry smile, he bowed, and was suddenly gone.
____
That night, after he had taken his candle to his chamber, Aziraphale found in his valise a leather-bound notebook he had brought with him for the purpose of making notes if he had the opportunity of visiting the library.  He turned a few pages in, to a fresh sheet, trimmed his pen, and sat down at his desk to write.

the one-seater sofa you were nestled in was threadbare and faded, but its old charm was what made it the perfect finishing piece to your little nook.
it sat between two wooden shelves, the excellent fit making it look like it's been specially made to be placed in that very corner of the downtown bookshop. the seat dipped down significantly after hours and hours spent carrying weight as people momentarily escaped from their mundane days and glided through one fictional world into another where they could live some other life apart from the one they had in this modern 21st-century town.
it was probably fate telling you to savor life’s simpler pleasures, having found the bookshop in one of your low-profile tours of the kingdom—one of your responsibilities as a ruler in training. you’ve been coming here ever since to no one but your assistant’s knowledge.
in the three years that passed, you couldn't remember if you have seen the seemingly insignificant yet inviting piece of furniture you were sitting on ever look new or if there was anybody in your town who has used it as much as you have.
what you did know was that every time you came to get lost in reading, a new trinket prepared by the bookshop's only owner, allen, would always be waiting on top of it. a book with a marked page, illustrations that reminded him of you, or simple items that made you smile were always accompanied by a mug of dark cocoa placed on top of a nearby shelf with a neat coaster. and don't forget the little note signed with a tiny, almost reluctantly-drawn, heart.
tonight, it was a newly-bought knitted blanket the color of lush forests in autumn. you wrapped it around yourself the moment you sat down and you noticed that it smelled like old books and oat-scented candles. "because it's almost your favorite season," the note said.
“how's my best customer enjoying their favorite spot tonight?” allen's face appeared peeking through a small space between the books to your right. he smiled, eyes and all, seeing you cradled in the knitted blanket with a book propped up with your knees, his warm mug in your hand.
allen was doing his nightly rounds, making sure new book arrivals were well stacked and sorted before he called it a day and went home. seeing you still immersed in reading a few minutes before the shop's closing time was not a new sight to him. in fact, it was how he finished many of his more enjoyable workdays.
"you know, if you treat every customer like this, they might end up falling for you." you took a sip of the dark cocoa and raised an eyebrow at him, ignoring the question. "with hot cocoa like this every time they're here? i'm surprised people aren't lining up outside."
allen didn't stop smiling and raised an eyebrow back to tease you, "so that means you're enjoying it?" he asked, making his way around the shelves and towards your sofa, plopping himself down on one of its arms.
the answer to his question was apparent with the relaxed way you were sitting, but you answered him anyway. "yes, allen. as always. thank you." you looked up at him, smiling sincerely and noticing how his warm stare didn’t falter.
"i like this one." he tapped the spine of the book you were holding, the white palace, by tom lee. allen always liked discussing books you’ve both read, going over details you yourself would have missed. he looked at you, taking the softbound item in his hand. “princess…”
you kept yourself from choking on your drink. for the past three years, a set of unusual circumstances led to allen still being clueless that you, his bookshop’s most avid patron, were indeed a crowned princess.
did he finally hear about who you were? you really wanted to be the one to tell him and you were planning to do it soon, but he must’ve found the timing impeccable, seeing you read a novel about royalty then and there.
you braced yourself for the questions, gathering up remnants of an unfinished explanation that you wanted to save for later.
“….princess mary, was that her name? the main character?” you inwardly sighed in relief and nodded.  maybe not. but soon.“how are you liking it so far?”
"i think it's quite exaggerated, the way they described the king and queen's private life. you know, they have an ordinary side to them, too. more than you would think.” you replied.
"mmhmm." he nodded thoughtfully like he always does when you expressed your opinion, like he was doing his best to grasp your perspective. “fiction has that tendency. and what are the chances of the princess getting married to a commoner?”
you shrugged and patted the small space beside you on the one-seater. what are the chances of the princess getting married to a commoner? you turned the question over and over in your head.
"i already closed up the entrance, but we can stay for another hour again if you want? wouldn't be the first time," allen said, accepting your silent offer and laughing at how both of you fit snuggly on the sofa, his chest pressed against your shoulder and his arms draped behind you.
"how about just another five minutes? i actually have to go earlier today. work." you offered him a sip from the mug to which he obliged, putting his hands over yours as he sipped up the warm drink. "but this is just too comfortable to pass up." you finished.
after a few lovely minutes, you helped allen close the bookshop. both of you walked side by side, taking the small path to the main road. the space between you two was almost nonexistent as the cold fall evening made you seek for each other’s warmth, however slight.
you loved this, the comfortable silence he always gave you when you were about to part. he wasn’t too keen about asking you questions and was contented with listening only to what you wanted to share. he never asked, for instance, why you always refused to let him bring you home. instead, he told you almost a hundred times to be careful on the way.
"i'm glad you enjoyed your nook today.” he faced you and you smiled at his words, giving him an intuitive peck on the cheek to which he scrunched his nose in delight. i enjoyed it too much, you thought. sometimes, being there made you forget that you were in line to rule an entire kingdom. you wanted to say this but decided against it. next time. i promise. “be careful on the way back, okay?”
you nodded at him to go ahead. he never ever failed to look back at you at least thrice while walking away.
tonight, you counted four.
finally, he turned a corner and you sighed.
"your highness." a car stopped in front of you not even a minute after, its front windows rolling down to reveal your assistant. you remember specifically asking him not to open the car door for you when he drops you off and picks you up a block away from the bookshop, things he still remembers to do until now.
you opened the door and sat yourself down on the backseat. "thanks, serim."
upon getting in, you knew serim was ready to update you about any developments on your current dealings, the most pertinent one being the donor’s ball, the first-ever palace event your parents, the king and queen, were letting you host on your own.
“there are some catering concerns that need to be finalized and i was told the guestlist for the donor’s ball is ready for you, your highness. when would you want to view it?”
“tonight is fine. it would be great if it was brought to the drawing-room when we arrive.”
“i’ll have it arranged. and a slot needs filling. one of the donors said they were withdrawing the donations for the children’s home, your highness,” serim reported, an undertone of annoyance just barely showing through at the said withdrawal.
“is it kim’s pages inc.?” you leaned your head on the window of the car and saw serim nod. “that’s fine. we have two weeks. that should be enough to find a replacement. let’s have a message sent to similar companies in town.”
“right away, your highness.”
you made a mental list of your commitments for the rest of the week, knowing you’d have no free time to have another one of your nights at the bookshop with allen for a few days. but this was your reality and you weren’t complaining. you were bringing people the help they needed. telling allen would have to wait.
"oh, and serim?” you leaned forward to peak at his face through the rearview mirror.
"yes, your highness?”
“remember when i told you not to call me ‘your highness’?”
“yes….your highness.” he shifted in his seat, holding back a snort.
"you don't have to call me that when we're alone. we're practically siblings and it feels weird. just casually, okay? and take those sunglasses off, it’s evening.” you patted his shoulder playfully from the backseat, all the walls of professionalism crumbling down with your high-pitched laughter.
"alright, y/n." he laughed and cleared his throat, loosening up at your signal.
serim, the only person inside the palace you could freely confide in when you were growing up, became your assistant at your request. his family has worked for the palace for years and no one could do the job better than him. ”since we're acting like actual buddies now, how's that bookshop owner doing? you told him already?” he asked, pulling up to the front gates of your residence which opened automatically at the sight of your vehicle.
"i will. soon.”
Tumblr media
your decision to not appear on television, or any platform for that matter, even while you were accomplishing work for public service was something your family never questioned. in fact, they supported it, knowing what scrutiny could do to a young woman still finding her character.
that said, allen not knowing that you were a member of the royal family was not a big surprise, as you were less of a household face than the rest of the monarchy. you deliberately avoided media and the public eye with the help of your dedicated staff, but this didn't mean you dodged your responsibilities. you were busy as can be, meeting partners in private meetings, arranging food and basic support for local shelters, and making sure the palace helpers were well-compensated.
allen’s bookshop was your breath of relief after a long day. in fact, the morning after spending hours at your small second home always made you feel like you were living a double life—from the worn-down sofa and aged bookshelves to the grand halls and luxurious decorative pieces of the palace.
“honey, i heard you were working until 2 am last night. you should really be getting rest. you know how busy we’ll all be on the day of the ball.” the queen greeted you with a frown as you approached the breakfast table set under a small gazebo in the middle of the palace garden. you sat down and were faced with a complete breakfast setup of the best eggs, toast, fruit, and all kinds of beverages, ready for you like they always were in the mornings.
“good morning, darling.” the king greeted you after taking a sip of coffee. he eyed your mother, urging her to greet you good morning before the rest of her concerned reminders. “have some breakfast. you’ll need it with the way you’re bustling nowadays.”
“yes, father. and don’t worry, mother, we just had some unexpected things to iron out,” you assured your parents. with you taking care of the event for the first time ever, you knew they just wanted things to go smoothly.
the donor's ball was hosted every fall. its main purpose was to gather potential partners that will support the charities under the royal family’s care. it did mean going out and being seen more than you would like, but it was the perfect opportunity to bring more to your constituents. you couldn't pass up the additional support for your advocacies.
but to add to that, your parents seemed to think the donor’s ball had another purpose.
“the kangs are on the guestlist. i heard they were bringing their heir, minhee,” your mother shared, trying to sound nonchalant, but you knew exactly what she was hinting at. “right?” she nudged your father who almost choked on his buttered roll.
“right. jungmo is coming too. remember him? your horseback riding partner?” your father asked.
“when i was 12? yes, father. i remember. and for the nth time…” you smiled at both of them patiently. “i’m marrying neither minhee nor jungmo.”
the king and queen merely looked at each other. their attempts to push you to meet potential grooms in the donor’s ball were now out of the picture.
“it’s alright, i got it, thank you.” you smiled at the palace helper and took the pot of tea from her hands, pouring your own cup.
“then who will it be, y/n? you know we always let you do what you think is best for you, but we only had one request: good in-laws.” the king asked, still sounding gentle as ever despite his hard exterior and the ever-so-pressing question.
“you get a choice, dear.” your mother smiled at you over the breakfast table. “you can find someone to marry yourself or you can entrust the task to me.”
“i’m on it.” you said almost inaudibly before taking a bite of your breakfast.
“come again?” your parents were all ears now. never hearing anything about the state of your heart was the norm for them, so you suddenly saying that you were ‘on it’ was quite the surprise.
you figured that if you were going to tell allen who you really were and how you really felt about him soon, your parents might as well know before they did anything funny, like set you up with kang minhee for example. minhee was great, but he was not allen.
“what if i want to marry the owner of that small bookstore?” you asked more confidently than before. they were silenced for a few seconds, again exchanging looks, but later on, they merely shrugged like they realized just who they were talking to. by now, they would have gotten used to how unpredictable their only child could be.
“then they had better pass their background checks. oh, and of course, we will have to interview them.” your mother explained. “—and don’t worry, i’ll tell your father not to scare them away.” she added after seeing that you were about to protest. to this, your father simply rolled his eyes, making the palace helpers giggle behind you. they always loved witnessing the rather casual exchanges you had with your parents.
“alright.” you smiled, grateful that you three reached an understanding. you were anxious, yes. how is he going to take this? but you were also visibly giddy. you had too many butterflies in your stomach to worry about anything else. the technicalities would have to be taken care of some other time. “you’re going to love him.”
your parents smiled at you purely, “we can’t wait to meet him.”
Tumblr media
“if you treat every customer like this, they might end up falling for you.” allen shook his head, chuckling by himself inside his humble studio apartment. he was cooking up a simple lunch when he remembered what you told him the day before. unconsciously, he caught himself hoping that it was a masked confession. allen knew it was a reach, trying to deduce how you felt just from those words, but seeing how close you two have become—the lingering gazes, warm hugs, and pecks on the cheek—he hoped he had a chance to have his feelings reciprocated openly. it’s probably time to clear out where both of you stood. it’s been 3 years after all.
the first time you ever stepped inside the bookshop, allen thought you were terribly overdressed. it was just at the break of spring and summer. you entered the shop alone and almost unnoticed, with allen’s back turned and you making the door chimes sound softer than they usually do. he actually only realized you were inside the shop when he saw you perusing the aisle containing contemporary mystery novels. with the beige sundress and huge sunglasses that you wore, one wouldn’t assume that you were from that town.
“hi, uhm, are you a tourist?” allen asked, ready to offer his help if you said yes. however, he was not looking directly at you but at the book you had in your hands. it was one of the novels in his shop he was not very fond of due to its unnecessary wordiness and lack of research.
“uhm, no. but i am new to this shop. they have a good selection, huh?” you paused and chuckled at the expression on allen’s face. “don’t worry, i’m not fond of his writing, either.”
“huh?” with a confused expression, he looked up at your face for the first time.
“i noticed you were squinting at it,” you said, raising the book up to eye level.
“ah, i’m sorry.” a bashful laugh sounded throughout the bookshop. allen looked like he could be your age but he carried himself like a young child meeting someone for the first time. “but you have to admit, his book covers feel very satisfying.”
“that’s the only reason why i was holding it. to feel it.” you laughed along with him and noticed that he was carrying a stack of at least 10 books. you removed your sunglasses to have a closer look at the titles. “you’re buying all of that?”
“no, no. i— uh, own the shop, actually. just reorganizing.” he said shyly, not used to introducing himself to a customer because everyone in the neighborhood who came to buy from him already knew this fact.
“oh! and here i was asking you about your own selections! lovely shop, by the way, sir…?”
“allen. just allen.” he held out his hand. when he asked for your name with complete curiosity and with no trace of recognition on his face, you knew that this was going to be a new and interesting place to be. from then on, his bookshop was the only place outside the palace to witness your unquenchable thirst for reading.
with every visit, your relationship with allen bloomed from awkward exchanges of greetings and smiles to a routine of long-winded discussions—ranging from the sweet and the natural to the borderline debate-like—a welcome sign that you have grown comfortable in each other’s presence. aside from the fact that he still did not know a single thing about your family background, both of you could say that you’ve come to know each other well, even up to the smallest habits and preferences.
allen could not remember when he realized that he always missed you terribly on the days you wouldn’t come. he did not know when he started to want to hold you while you had your nose up in a book. he also couldn’t tell at what point in time in the past three years his heart started beating faster at every soft tinkling sound of the door chime, always wishing it was you who entered when he turned and looked.
although he was not sure exactly when he fell for you, he’s more than certain that he wanted to be able to spend time with you and maybe have a future with you outside of the confines of his store.
“if you treat every customer like this, they might end up falling for you.” the next time you came, he was going to tell you that he’s never done special gestures like that for any other customer. his heart simply becomes happy making you smile and he’ll be glad to continue doing so for as long as you let him.
allen smiled by himself again, thinking about the mug of hot cocoa and heartfelt confession he was going to give you when you come back.
Tumblr media
it’s been a few days since you last got the chance to take a break from your endless meetings. the two weeks leading up to the ball clouded your mind with nothing but work, work, and work. the one free night you had before the ball was tomorrow and you would usually be feeling excited at the thought of seeing allen and being cradled by pages of fiction in your spot between the shelves. but with the case at hand, all you could do was worry. the excitement upon telling your parents about him was now replaced with a rabbit hole of concern.
“i can hear your heart racing through the phone lines, y/n…” your best friend said through the phone call. staying in your room cooped up with your thoughts just wasn’t going to do it. you needed someone who was not on edge to put you in the right mindset for tomorrow and no one could do it better than your childhood best friend, who just so happened to be the young prince of a neighboring kingdom.
“i know, hyeongjun. be the prince that you are and give me your thoughts, please.” you leaned your back on one of the pillars of your balcony, staring out at the wide expanse of your town and the few flickering lights in the distance. you wondered if allen was closing up his shop right this very moment.
“before that… tell me. why do you like this allen?” hyeongjun asked. as you knew he wasn’t one to judge based on status or occupation, you obliged.
“well…” you started to fill him in right from the very beginning. your eyes were still looking out at the town, but your mind was replaying your typical visits to the shop like a movie reel.
you told hyeongjun about how your heart would do somersaults seeing allen sitting on the front desk, looking dashing even in just a simple sweater; about how his eyes would light up when he turned and saw you enter the shop; how he would look down and have a tint of red on his cheeks, catching himself in the middle of a rant when you listened to his stories with a loving gaze and undivided attention.
you smiled dreamily as you continued to narrate how you found the very first note allen left for you. it was placed on top of a stack of aged books at the shelf you frequented. the note said: “y/n. because i noticed you seemed to love horror fiction. these are some of my favorites. tell me what you think about them? :)” you looked over at the front desk, meeting his eyes which were already looking in your direction. you gave him a thumbs up, earning an excited smile from him.
before you left the bookshop that day, you noticed a bunch of crumpled post-it notes inside the bin beside the front door, some of them with longer messages, some with scribbled out hearts and more smiley faces. you chuckled, imagining how flustered he must’ve been while deciding what to write before finally settling for the simpler message instead.
you jumpily described your surprise at how, several months after you first met, allen dared to hold your hand and pull you between the wooden shelves to show you the seat he set up just for you; how he would smile when you told him his shop brought you comfort; how the hours spent with him are the longest you could go without being served or addressed as a noble, but as a beloved friend and maybe even more.
“and his mind… he knows more things than i could possibly know. he’s smart. but he still listens to me like everything i say is brand new to him. he’s no prince, but he’s left me more to think about than any other prince i’ve met. no offense, hyeongjun. you know i love you.”
“none taken.” hyeongjun breathed out, taking in everything you said. “just now, it sounded like you were reading me a fairytale. y/n, i know you’re already a real princess, but you saying such things makes me think you’re a princess out of actual fantasy.”
“hyeongjun…” you whined, not understanding where he was going with this.
“okay, look. i don’t think it was for the fear of him treating you differently that you still have not told him about your background,” he rationalized. hyeongjun has always been a bubbly friend, but you could rely on him to be wise and objective when you needed it the most. “it was the comfort that he brought you after a long day. maybe it was the way he treated you like an equal that kept you contented with what he knows about you at this point in time.”
you stayed silent and felt the waves of worry ebbing away because of how accurately he described your situation.
“my point is, y/n, if he was everything you described him to be, he would understand why you took this long to tell him. don’t get ahead of yourself, okay?” hyeongjun asked. “but if he reacts negatively, i can always send some of my personal guards to talk it out with him and—“
“hyeongjun!”
“i’m kidding! i just wanted to make you laugh,” he said giggling. you shook your head and laughed along with him, feeling yourself gaining more will to face the next day. the sigh you had now was one of partial relief
“thank you… i mean it.” you told him. “see you at the ball?”
“it’s your first donor’s ball. i wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

A Grand Gesture
lysissisyl said: I got: “Byleth breaking into Edelgard’s room through their window” It’s so damn in character. 😂
“It’ll just be a drabble,” I said.
“It will be fluffy,” I said.
…It is neither of those things.
Rating: G
-
Really, in a way, what happened could be blamed on Dorothea and Ferdinand. They were the ones who brought up the opera, and seemed to believe that  only certain gestures were the perfect solution for - to borrow one of Dorothea’s phrases - the hopelessly lovelorn.
It had seemed a good idea at the time, asking the two of them for advice. Who else was there, really? And finding them sitting together in the dining hall might as well have been a sign yelling Fate!, because how often had that happened? Byleth couldn’t remember them ever sitting together as students; they’d seemed barely able to stand one another.
She sat across from them, and, after perfunctory greetings, saw no reason not to get to the point: “Do you know why Edelgard keeps locking herself in her room?”
Dorothea raised a knowing eyebrow, but Ferdinand seemed confused: “She was at the council meeting yesterday… Though now that I think about it, she did seem to have rather less to say than usual.”
“And went back to her room immediately following,” Dorothea said. “Hubert was muttering darkly about it. Not that he ever mutters any other way.”
“She painted a picture,” Byleth said - already perfectly aware of Edelgard darting from the meeting room as if goosed, and Hubert rushing to follow. “She got upset when I saw it - but that was two weeks ago. She still won’t talk to me.”
“A painting?” Ferdinand asked.
Dorothea asked the more pertinent question: “A painting of what?”
“Me.”
Her face lit up like a candle. “I knew it!”
“Knew what?”
“I am afraid I must ask the same question,” Ferdinand said - his own expression had gone from confused to thoroughly befuddled.
Dorothea laughed - absolutely delighted. “Of course it’s of you, Professor.” She glanced sideways - not bothering to hide her smirk. “Surely you didn’t miss all of dear Edie’s infatuation, these last five years? Even the horses couldn’t be so oblivious as that.”
“Of course not! It was simply… not the first thing to come to mind.”
“Infatuation?” Byleth asked.
For a long moment, they both simply stared. Byleth stared back - waiting.
“Oh, dear…” Dorothea finally said. “Though I suppose you truly did miss these last five years.”
“Most of it.”
“But… you’ve noticed since? About Edie and… you?”
Byleth considered this. Certainly, there was something she was feeling about Edelgard, and it was one of the strongest feelings she had felt, and it was getting stronger still, but she continued to have trouble understanding any of her feelings, even the simple ones. This one was not simple. It wasn’t a bad feeling, but it was certainly not easy to figure out - it was warm, and kind of tingly in her head, and it made her feel like laughing, but it wasn’t funny…?
A very odd feeling.
She certainly hadn’t noticed anything markedly different about Edelgard, except that she looked like and spoke even more confidently as the emperor now. Until the painting - which was why she was here in the first place. And she said as much: “Nothing except the painting.”
Dorothea stared again, then shook her head. “Hopeless. Both of you, hopeless… My dear professor, Edie is head-over-heels in love with you.”
Ferdinand spoke before Byleth could: “In love?”
Dorothea ignored him. “But she’s embarrassed. I doubt our poor little Edie has ever grappled with such tumultuous feelings. Leading a revolution is a far more straightforward matter. Especially for one of Edie’s… disposition.”
“I haven’t either,” Byleth said. Was that what to name the warm-tingly-laughing feeling? Love? She had felt love before - but even as clueless as she knew she was about feelings, she also knew there were many different kinds of love.
Dorothea cocked an eyebrow. “So the feeling is mutual, is it?”
“I…” Thinking of Edelgard - and there was the warmth. Byleth nodded. “Yeah. It is.”
“How romantic!” Ferdinand said. “Will you tell her? And perhaps more importantly - how will you tell her? Over tea? I would be more than happy to assist in acquiring the perfect blend. Something with an infusion of rose, but sweet. Perhaps -”
“You’re thinking like a noble, Ferdie - all tradition, no grandeur. Nothing memorable.”
“I would think the symbolism would be memorable enough, Dorothea. The gift of a blend perfected solely as a gesture of love, the intimacy of a table laid out within a hidden glen, with places only for two… Are you saying such an act is not evidence of devotion, deep and abiding, and promised for all eternity?”
“I never said that. I said it was boring.”
Ferdinand pursed his lips, shook his head. “Not everything needs to be a grand stage production, Dorothea. Life is not an opera.”
“How very deep, Ferdie. You surprise me. But why not something grand and operatic?” She leaned against her elbows on the table, chin resting atop her entwined hands. “What do you think, Professor? A grand gesture, or… afternoon tea?”
“I just want Edelgard to come out of her room and talk to me again.”
“Just to be clear - are you certain it was the painting?” Dorothea asked. “Nothing else you saw? Nothing unusual happened?”
Byleth thought back to that day - to the truncated shout that had taken her to Edelgard’s room in the first place. “I called her cute.” No more details given; Edelgard would almost certainly get even more upset if suddenly everyone knew her deepest fears - even if all those included in “everyone” were her closest allies.
Once more, Dorothea looked absolutely delighted - and this time, Ferdinand did, too. “Did you really?” Dorothea asked - and actually turned to Ferdinand long enough to share a knowing smile.
“Yes.” Had it been the wrong thing to say, even if it was true? Edelgard had gotten flustered, but she always got flustered when she thought she was being teased. Which she wasn’t.
“Hmm… So you called her cute, and then saw the painting?”
Byleth nodded.
“…Poor Edie has probably never in her life fallen into a stew of emotions quite this thick.”
Ferdinand also nodded - a contemplative expression on his face. “I must say, I am rather jealous.”
“When once again, you’ve lost to Edie?”
“Of course not! I speak only in the most general of terms.”
“Mm-hmm - but back to the matter at hand. Edie is in love, Edie is thoroughly overwhelmed by this - and perhaps lingering uncertainty about whether the feeling is truly mutual - and rather than do the sensible thing and speak to someone, as our professor here has done, she has opted to lock herself away, because no one ever told her pining princesses don’t go looking for hidden towers of their own accord.”
“Which begs the question,” Ferdinand said, “of how to rescue the princess from the tower.”
Byleth was confused - and fairly certain that if Edelgard needed rescuing, she would rescue herself - but kept silent. It felt as if some progress was finally being made. Maybe. They had at least moved on from the “in love” aspect, anyway.
“Which brings us back to grandeur,” Dorothea said. “No one ever knocks on the door and politely asks the evil king to please return the princess. And isn’t it always you nobles doing the breaking-and-entering in the name of rescue?”
“I hardly think breaking down Edelgard’s door is a noble idea, whatever the circumstances!”
“It’s a terrible idea,” Byleth said. Edelgard’s aim wasn’t always the best, but in the confined space of the dormitory, that would not particularly matter.
“Metaphor, my dears.” Dorothea was leaning across the table again. “Ferdie says life isn’t an opera, but what is an opera but a grand-scale depiction of everyday life? You’re familiar with the tale of Cremina and Lycaon, are you not?”
Byleth shook her head, but Ferdinand said, “Of course. Cremina was a distant - and likely mythological - relative of House Vestra, and Lycaon the purported father of Wilhelm, founder and first emperor of Adrestia. The story claims to explain the allegiance House Vestra swore to House Hresvelg.”
“Exactly,” Dorothea said. “I always wanted to play Cremina, but wasn’t considered mature enough for the role before I left the opera… but regardless - Professor, you’re sure you are not at all familiar with the tale?”
“I don’t think so.” Her father had not been much for telling stories. Especially about princesses in towers - which was a little concerning, if this was a common occurrence. But that was something to try to figure out later. The library probably had books about it.
“The family of Cremina did not approve of her love for Lycaon,” Dorothea said. “They saw him as little more than a savage, a guard dog of Seiros. They locked Cremina away beneath the grand home in which they lived - they were already very wealthy, while Lycaon had been nobody at all until he proved himself upon the battlefield. He knew where Cremina was being held, but had no means to rescue her.
“There was war all across Fódlan, then - for centuries, if you believe the legends. Cremina’s father was slain in battle, then, one by one, six of her seven brothers. Knowing Cremina was still locked away beneath her family home, Lycaon decided to behave like the dog they claimed that he was - he began to dig. Each day, as he worked, he sang to Cremina - his songs her only nourishment, and her songs sung back the same to him, letting him dig harder and longer with no need for food or rest. When finally he reached her, they swore to love one another for all eternity. Soon after they were wed and had a son, Creminas youngest and final brother returned home, having recovered from the grievous injuries he had sustained in battle. As a thank you for what Lycaon had done to save Cremina, the brother pledged his and all his descendants’ devotion to the Hresvelg line, for as long as both should remain.”
“A preposterous story, by all true historical accounts,” Ferdinand said.
“Of course it is, Ferdie. You just said it yourself - it’s a story. A grand story of the lengths to which the hopelessly lovelorn may go. Far grander than any tea party.”
“A tea party is feasible in our current situation, unless you mean to propose the professor should somehow dig her way to Edelgard’s room?”
“Nothing like that. I meant -”
They continued this pseudo-argument, but Byleth was no longer listening. She was thinking about tea, and tea parties, and what might be a grand gesture that was like digging into an underground prison to rescue someone beloved. Something like…
She looked up, interrupting Ferdinand and Dorothea’s bickering: “I have an idea.”
-
The rope was the first thing - and this part, at least, Byleth was very familiar with how to do. Knotted around her waist, snug, but not so tight it would impede movement, and a loop around the handle of the basket. More rope to tie the heavier things within, so they wouldn’t jostle - and each arranged to serve as weight or counterweight, a trick her father had taught her when they had once moved so frequently from place to place.
She left the basket at the far edge of the dormitory, where it wouldn’t risk hitting the overhang above the ground floor rooms. She needed to get herself up, first.
Her idea had brought a look of delight to Dorothea’s face, and a surprised excitement to Ferdinand’s. He had, as promised, kept up his end of this grand gesture before the week was out. The rest of it was up to Byleth.
She was no hero from some ancient legend, but she’d been climbing trees to scout for her father and those who had worked for him almost as long as she’d been able to walk - or rather, for a long enough time she could not remember having to learn to do either. Now, it was as simple as using a crate to get a height boost, and then shimmying up the column to the overhang - not a completely flat surface, some of the boards warped and loosened with age, but far more stable than a narrow branch ten meters above the ground. She would just have to step carefully. Especially with the basket - even with things tied down, pinwheeling would mean a spill inside, if not without.
She pulled the basket up now, slowly, hand over hand, adjusting carefully at every lean or noticeable shift in weight. Edelgard probably had water in her room, but it had seemed like a good idea to bring some, just in case. The evening was still early; there was no hurry to get the basket up. When it was up, though, she checked the contents - all intact; no spills. Good. She untied the rope from both the handle and her waist, tossing it to the ground to pick up later.
The correct window - she had counted three times, to make sure she knew the one, and had climbed up on the side with the shorter distance to it. She held the basket in one hand, let the other trail against the wall, steadying her as she stepped carefully from board to board. “One,” she said, touching the windowsill. “Two. Three.” She wasn’t likely to be seen - everyone was still at dinner.
Everyone but Edelgard.
There was the window. And there she was.
And for a surprised moment - surprise at herself, at yet another confusing, inescapable, inexplicable reaction - Byleth froze. She stared.
The horns were gone. The crown, too. And the cape, the armored dress. Edelgard was cross-legged on her bed, her hair down, falling over one shoulder. Her dress was simple, almost loose - a nightgown? Bare feet. She was reading a book, and apparently nothing important, because Byleth knew the way her brow furrowed when she was intently focused on a history or military treatise. Now, her face was relaxed, her lips curled ever-so-slightly into something almost resembling a smile.
Warmth. Tingling. A happiness that made her feel like laughing.
Love.
Byleth rapped at the window.
Edelgard jumped - almost sending her book flying - and whipped around, all the easy enjoyment in her expression wiped away in an instant. She looked tense, now, and - of course - more than ready to protect herself.
Her eyes found Byleth. Byleth waved.
For a long time, Edelgard stared. Her cheeks flushed red - anger, or embarrassment?  Byleth had no idea. Finally, at a loss, she held up the basket.
Maybe grand gestures befitting an opera had not been the way to go. Still, at least she had brought Ferdinand’s plan as well. She pointed at the basket and said, “Tea!” Even if Edelgard probably couldn’t hear her. It would be a pretty simple word to lipread.
Now there was the furrowed brow. But Edelgard pushed up from the bed and came to open the window.
Bylth tried her best at a smile. She felt like smiling, and just about everyone seemed to think it was the friendly thing to do. In the right circumstances, anyway - hopefully this counted. She held the basket a little higher. “Hi, Edelgard. I brought things for tea. And sandwiches, since you weren’t at dinner again.”
Edelgard’s flush deepened, and she glanced away - roughly in the direction of the dining hall. “Hubert’s been bringing me… Nevermind. Come in before someone sees you. Or you manage to break your neck.”
“I won’t get hurt.” But Byleth did as told, placing the basket on the long shelf that ran beneath the window, then climbing in after it. There was a fire going - that was good. She hadn’t been able to think of a way to keep the water in the basket warm. And besides,  if she had, the condensation on the little kettle might have made the sandwich bread soggy. That seemed like the sort of little thing Byleth was supposed to remember other people did not appreciate.
“You might if you ever do that again,” Edelgard said. “What in the world were you thinking?”
“You wouldn’t answer your door. So I asked Dorothea and Ferdinand what to do.”
“Dorothea and -” Edelgard put a hand to her forehead, rubbing as if it ached. “Of course.”
“Do you want tea?”
“I… Yes. I suppose. Let’s… have tea.”
A good sign? Not a rescue from an underground prison, but better than being yelled at through the door. “I brought a blanket.” Opening the basket, untying the ropes holding everything in place. “Like a picnic. Dorothea said that would be romantic.”
She paused in her unpacking and looked up at the sound of Edelgard spluttering. “Romantic?”
“Yes. Is that a bad thing?”
“It’s… no. But… I’m not…” She could see Edelgard tensing, just as she had that day two weeks ago. “This might be a bad time, actually. You should go. We can… we can have tea another day. Perhaps tomorrow. Hubert will be here soon.”
Byleth took her hands off the basket. She looked at Edelgard - at her eyes. Her cheeks were still red, her lips pursed, but her eyes… There was fear there. A naked vulnerability.
She doesn’t understand feelings, either. Not these, anyway. Maybe for Edelgard, love wasn’t warm-tingly-laughing. Or maybe it was, but it didn’t come with curiosity - it came with terror. Byleth felt no pain from it. But Edelgard…
“I’m sorry,” Byleth said.
“You’re…?”
“I shouldn’t have said it like that. I should have just said I miss you. And talking to you, and having tea with you. Which I do. I like seeing you, Edelgard.”
Edelgard’s eyes looked away, but she made a little noise that was almost a laugh. “I’m no good at this. Not with you. I like seeing you, as well. I… I suppose I should be the one apologizing. I certainly know… the pain of missing others. Even when they’re not truly far away. I overreacted. I was…” She shook her head. “Let’s prepare the tea. There are… more things I should have told you quite some time ago.”
It was warm, too, doing it together - not tingly, no laughter, but definitely warm. Edelgard took a careful sniff of the tea blend, making a face. “That’s… different. Ferdinand?”
“Ferdinand.”
…Very, very warm.
Edelgard showed little interest in the food, but did cradle her teacup in her hands. Maybe they were cold - she didn’t have her gloves on. Her skin was pale, and Byleth could catch occasional glimpses of the scars running up her arms, beneath the loose sleeve of her dress. Did that mean something - that Edelgard did not try to hide them; seemed to have all but forgotten them? It felt as if it meant so much more than simple trust.
As did what Edelgard said, looking down rather fixedly at her cup. “You saw it. The portrait.”
“Just for a second.”
Edelgard shook her head. “Nevermind that. I was the one who left it out. I wanted to explain… why. Why I painted it in the first place. I don’t think anyone would ever mistake me for a master artist.”
Dorothea had said infatuation. Dorothea had said love. And still, perhaps she was right - but there were things she likely did not know about Edelgard. Things it seemed likely almost no one knew. There might be infatuation, there might be love, but there was something more. So Byleth said nothing. She drank her tea. She waited, watching Edelgard attempt to gather her thoughts.
Finally, Edelgard took a deep breath, and said, “I forget things.” She swallowed visibly. She was clutching the teacup tightly enough that her knuckles had gone white. “Not so much anymore, but… I’m always afraid that I will. You remember what I told you - of what happened to my siblings?”
“When they…”
“When they were killed. When…” Her voice trailed off, and she shook her head again. “After, I realized the gaps, in my memory. I had to be reminded of things - things that had only happened days or weeks before. I could only remember the faces of my younger brother and sister as they had been before I left - they were hardly more than babies! - not as the older children they’d become. The youngest was almost nine years old, hardly a toddler - but even now, when I try to imagine him, he’s no more than a tiny, babbling, fat-cheeked thing.” She looked, finally, at Byleth. “You know that I spent several years in the Kingdom, with my uncle?”
“Yes. Not the details, though.”
Edelgard made that almost-laugh noise again, but there was no humor in it at all. “Don’t expect the details from me. I don’t remember that, either. I knew I’d been away from home, but more than once had to be reminded of where I’d been taken, and with whom, and why.”
She took another deep breath, and let it out slowly - almost a sigh. “Like I said, it isn’t so bad now, but… when you disappeared…” She put the cup down, and, once more, her gaze with it. “I was afraid I might forget you, too. Your face. Your voice. Forget… all of it. And I couldn’t stand that. To lose someone else…” Her hands shook - she laced her fingers together, but Byleth had already seen. “I painted before I could forget. And when you came back… I realized all I had already gotten wrong. The length of your nose. The shape of your chin. I found the painting again because I needed to fix it. In case… in case…” Her voice broke, and she pressed her lips together, almost savagely. Forcing away the sorrow. Forcing away feeling.
“Edelgard.” Byleth wanted to crawl closer, gather her up, hold her until it was better. Another strange, insistent, new desire - Edelgard might battle her own feelings into submission, but Byleth had no idea how to do that. But she couldn’t do what she wanted. Not now. Not yet. She contented herself with leaning forward, elbows on her knees. “I’m sorry.”
“As you’ve already said.” Edelgard’s voice was soft and low.
“I’m sorry I was gone.”
A pause - then Edelgard was looking at her once more. “Just… would you be willing to promise me something? I know it’s presumptuous, and perhaps asking too much, but -”
“What?”
Those eyes - those bold, determined eyes. “I know I cannot ask you to promise to keep yourself safe - such is not the nature of war - nor can I ask you to promise to stay by my side.”
“I will, though.”
She almost smiled - not quite, but almost. “Promise me, my teacher… if you ever do choose to leave, or if you must leave… you’ll do me the courtesy of telling me, before you go? I will not try to stop you. Your life, and your path, are your own.”
My life and my path are alongside yours. But as earlier had shown, it was not yet the time for such words. So Byleth just nodded. “I promise.” She cocked her head. “Now you have to promise something, too.”
“Making demands of an emperor and commander of an army?” Edelgard raised an eyebrow, but she was finally smiling. Genuinely smiling. “That’s quite the bold move.”
“Dorothea said gestures should be grand.”
“Dorothea thinks like a minstrel. But go ahead - what would you ask?”
“Promise we can keep doing this.”
“Doing…?”
“Having tea. And talking. And you tell me what’s bothering you. Now, and until the war ends, and after the war ends. I know feelings are hard, but you can tell me about them. I’m trying to learn them.”
Again, for a long moment, Edelgard just stared at her - assessing her. Almost scrutinizing.
Then - a single, firm nod. “Yes. I think I can make that promise. I do promise.”
It was Byleth’s turn to smile - as best she could. Inside her was warm, and tingly, and felt like laughing.
A promise from Edelgard seemed a grand gesture indeed.

His homecoming had been chilly, to say the least.
There was no doubt in his mind that given the first opportunity, the dozens of nobles that controlled the planet would gladly dispose of him. They had stared daggers at him as he made his claim in the Great Assembly House, and made their objections clearly known. They did not find him worthy of the title; they saw him as an outsider, a usurper. He had to remind the gathered parliament that by their own laws, it was his right as eldest son to claim his House's title, resources, wealth, and power.
And Dooku intended to use his newfound status to its full potential.
The newly appointed Count had spent the last week familiarizing himself with the culture of his homeworld, and the legacy of House Dooku. It was a hefty history, but he committed it all to memory, to prove his loyalty to Serenno. Having lived all eight decades of his life in the Jedi Order, he had foreseen that the other Counts would view him as an individual unworthy of joining their ranks. Who was he, they hissed to one another, to march through their halls and demand the position he had surrendered upon his departure at the age of four?
But it had not fully been his choice, had it?
He remembered only snippets of the day the Jedi had come to the family manor to take him away. He remembered standing in the echoing antechamber ringed with sconces. He remembered the stiff hands of his father as he clasped Dooku on his shoulders and bid him farewell. His mother had cried, but he had no tears to shed for her. Dooku did not recall looking back at the manor as the Jedi's shuttle bore him away.
Standing before it now, Dooku viewed his new home critically. The oblong central structure that rose from the half-circle base of the building dwarfed the forest and security towers that surrounded it. It was compact and angular, its exterior largely unadorned. As far as architecture went, it lacked the elegance and aesthetic pleasantries of the other House manors he had observed.
But a sense of strength and power exuded from this place. Perched on the edge of a cliff-face, the imposing structure stared down from its lofty perch at the city of Saffia in the distance. Rather than mimicking the gentle curves of the open-air palaces that were popular with the other nobles, this place stood like a fortress. It was defensible and imposing, two great green-tinted stained-glass window staring like eyes; one gazing out the cliffside and one monitoring the approaching road. The security towers rose from the vast courtyard, ringing the manor like an honor guard.
“An impressive estate, Madam,” Dooku said graciously to the haughty woman standing beside him. “You have done well keeping up its splendor.”
“I'm so pleased you approve,” she replied icily. “Count.” She added the formality curtly as an afterthought.
Kostanza Dooku stood nearly as tall as Dooku himself, with all the bearing of a noblewoman used to commanding and being obeyed. Her chestnut-brown hair was beginning to grey, drawn back into a severe hairstyle that attempted to make her seem older than she was. She did not have their air of a cruel or callous person, but Dooku could sense the entitlement that coursed through her veins. She knew her place in the galaxy and took it in stride.
And now Dooku had come to take it from her.
Leaving the sleek speeder with the valet, his sister-in-law led him through the courtyard and into the manor itself, the skirt of her dress trailing behind her as she gave him a begrudging tour of the manor. Lavish furnishings filled the halls and rooms, priceless paintings and statues accumulated from hundreds of years of wealth and power. Servants – organic and mechanic – stood at attention as the two strode past them. Dooku reached out to the living servants, and found that for nearly every one of them, their loyalty was to Kostanza – not to the House. Making note of which human servants would need to be relieved and replaced, Dooku listened to the Regent closely, focusing on her presence in the Force and gleaning what information he could from her.
From his research after leaving the Jedi, Dooku had learned that his father, the late Hal Dooku, had remarried after the death of his first wife, and produced another heir nearly twenty years younger than his firstborn. Admittedly, Dooku took the news that he had a brother with little more than mild interest. The man that shared his father’s blood was dead, sent to an early grave by a stray blaster bolt while game hunting on Felucia. His wife Kostanza had served as Regent ten years since his death, as their son was still too young to take the mantle of Count. Adan Dooku had never met his father.
Kostanza had ruled well, it seemed. She was well-liked among the other Counts, and had maintained House Dooku’s vast influence politically and economically, securing their place as the wealthiest of all the Houses of Serenno.
And yet…
For all her clever dealings and appearances, she cared little of the power she wielded for her own sake; her feelings dwelt on her son.
Confident in her ability to maintain prestige herself, Dooku felt her energies devoted to Adan’s future. Her every action was calculated to instruct him in the ways of leadership, to prepare him for his eventual ascension to Count.
Now, each time the Regent looked to Dooku as they strolled through the manor, her eyes found the lightsaber hanging from his belt, and he felt her unease. All her plans had been skewed by his arrival, and she was mentally scrambling for a way to salvage them.
She had opposed him in the Great Assembly House, calling for her allies to support her authority as Regent, and her son’s eventual claim of the head of the House. She attempted to rebuff everything Dooku said, tried to paint him as an outsider, as a poisoner wearing a cape that did not belong to him. In spite of the heated debate that followed and the dark oaths of the other Counts, the Arbiters had begrudgingly denied Kostanza’s claim, and proclaimed Dooku the rightful heir and the patriarch of House Dooku. Adding insult to injury, they then instructed Kostanza to familiarize Dooku with his new obligations, and show him to his new estate.
Dooku had not intended to embarrass the woman, or to undermine her authority. But he did not care that he had. She was irrelevant to him. With the backing of the Arbiters, and with no physical force to challenge him, there was little she could do to threaten him. And so, with color high in her cheeks and eyes glinting with rage, she had obeyed.
Kostanza fell silent as they entered the throne room. Dooku paced away from her, examining the vast space. The massive green stained-glass window commanded the empty, echoing room’s attention. An incredibly high-backed black chair sat behind a dark angular sweeping desk upon a raised dais at the far end of the room. An unusual choice, to have a desk before the throne, but it spoke of the prerogative of House Dooku; business, economy, prestige, and a separation from those who fell beneath his rule.
Dooku turned back to face the Regent. “I will of course require access to all records. Passcodes, clearance, and other pertinent information may be transmitted directly to my datacron.” His measured voice carried impressively in the throne room.
A muscle in her neck jumped. “Of course. Count.” She gestured carelessly to a droid that had trailed them since the foyer. The astromech chirped once in acknowledgement, rolling towards Dooku’s outstretched hand, taking the datacron in its forceps and beginning the downloading process.
“I can’t help but wonder,” Kostanza said at length, watching him closely. “What brought you back to Serenno? The quickest of searches revealed that you are a distinguished Jedi Master. Why leave your noble service after all these years?”
The patronizing tone confirmed that she did not think much of the Jedi. Not that Dooku could blame her, now. While he wasn’t about to reveal all of his reasons for claiming his title, it was only proper to give a passable response.
“I realized my views have diverted too much from what the Jedi Order deems passable. I could no longer abide by their ways. I can do more for the galaxy – and for my people – as Count of House Dooku than I can as a Jedi.”
She eyed him skeptically, but said nothing further.
The droid finished the download and extended the cube once more. Dooku slipped it into his robes.
“I trust all records are accurate and up-to-date?”
Her chin lifted fractionally. “Of course. You will find my data complete and incredibly detailed. I let nothing go unnoted.”
“You do yourself and hour House a great honor through your meticulousness.”
“Indeed,” she sniffed. “If you wish to begin looking through matters of state, I shall leave you in peace.”
In all likelihood, Dooku considered, she simply did not wish to be present when he sat upon her throne. Childish, but understandable.
“Yes. I imagine there are many issues that require my attention.”
With deliberate strides, she began making her way across the gangway towards the master bedroom. Dooku watched for a moment, considering his next words carefully.
He clasped his hands behind him. “A moment, Kostanza.”
Dooku felt her bristle at the familiarity of using her first name, but she turned to regard him silently.
“I intend to assume all aspects and duties required of the Countship as immediately as possible, and to their fullest extent. I cannot help but feel that your presence here will hinder that goal.
She went very still. Dooku felt a swell of panic in her, her eyes boring into him, though she remained composed. He felt her mind whirling, searching for a way to undermine him, to eradicate his misgivings, as though she could somehow influence his already-made decision.
“I assure you, Count, I will uphold the ruling of the Arbiters. It would be most beneficial for me to remain here. I am intimately familiar with the proceedings and alliances of the House. I am an invaluable asset as you get your bearings.”
In another life, Dooku thought, they could have been allies. Kostanza was clever and determined, with a talent for politics and business that would have been useful to him. But her devotions were too focused on her son; she cared only for his wellbeing, for his eventual ascension. Her emotions clouded her thoughts, made her too single-minded. Despite her current oath of fealty, she would always be on watch for ways to undermine him, to clear the path for her son. She would never forgive Dooku for interrupting her way of life. And years of experience made Dooku certain that grudge would only fester like an infection. In the conflict that had already been set into motion, she would merely get in his way.
Better to cut away the infection before it could spread.
He gazed at her coolly, and she seemed to realize her reasoned argument held no sway. For a moment, he thought she’d try to appeal to his emotions, to attempt to make him feel sorry for the last of his family. Perhaps she would insist that he meet his nephew. But she said nothing further. Perhaps she realized it would be futile.
“While I appreciate your position, my dear, I am afraid your services will not be required here further. I will arrange for immediate transportation for you and young Adan to a more suitable clime. Alderaan is always open to resettling dignitaries –”
“You would send us off-world?” Kostanza hissed, taking an involuntary step forward.
“It is in your best interest.”
She seemed to be wrestling with a thought. Finally, she said softly, “Adan will be Count. With no heir of your own, he is next in line. When you pass on, House Dooku will be his to command. By sending us away, you merely separate him from his people and delay his education.”
Dooku looked at her impassively. “I suggest you and your son gather your belongings by this evening. I shall have a shuttle awaiting you at the foyer. Thank you, Madam. You are dismissed.”
Her eyes narrowed. Drawing herself to her full height, Kostanza pierced him with a stare. “You will pay for this insolence.” She swept from the room with her remaining dignity. As she snapped fingers in one last show of defiance, the human servants trotted out after her, leaving Dooku alone in the throne room, save for a single droid standing unmoving at the throne.
No, my dear. I will profit.
Dooku ascended the dais with measured steps, feeling a strange sense of pride rising in him as he rounded the desk and stood directly before the throne. He considered it carefully, once more mentally preparing himself for this next step.
He glanced at the droid standing beside him, an old version of a protocol droid. It looked back at him with dim yellow photoreceptors.
“Has she trapped the chair in any way?” Dooku asked the droid, only half-joking.
“That would be against the wishes of the Arbiters,” the droid replied in a monotone.
“And whom do you serve?”
“I serve House Dooku.”
Nodding to himself, Dooku lowered himself onto the throne. He gazed at the empty hall, and the sudden thought came to him that his father sat here, and his father before him, and his father before him. A long line of strong rulers that had built their House to be the most powerful in all of Serenno. And now their contributions would be put to use in the most significant event in the modern age.
He had intended to return to Serenno after leaving the Order, yes, but he hadn’t fully decided whether to claim his full inheritance. But when he went to meet with Chancellor Palpatine after officially separating from the Jedi… his plans for the future had changed drastically.
Dooku closed his eyes and centered himself. He had more purpose now than he’d ever had before – a clear goal, and the means to fulfill it.
He accessed the datacron, and numerous files flickered to life on the projected viewscreen before him. With the entirety of House Dooku’s resources at his disposal, he set to work.
There was much to be done.

“ mister osborn was founder and ceo of oscorp here in new york, whose notably ruthless business models made waves among biotech giants. he is cited as being unnecessarily severe when releasing pharmaceuticals, with claims that profits gained were redirected in - house towards classified research. when unable to get a more thorough explanation behind his intent, an oscorp spokesperson went on record as stating ‘ every innovation made by the relentless and imaginative scientists in his employ were garnered towards a better future for all of humanity. ’ while norman remains an arguably disagreeable businessman with a personality that created a plethora of hostile relations, his was still a loss that took their industry by surprise. ” she stopped reading off ortega’s prompter, addressing the camera directly.

The Visitor (Alexander/Xena)
The Visitor
WC: 1,429 Warnings: OC/Self-Insert, Snakes Summary: Alexander Hyde’s butler enters the room with the announcement of an unexpected human visitor. Xena is surprised that the monster lord doesn’t smite her wear she stands.
A/N: Just a long and tired drabble about my first meeting with my OC Alexander Hyde! I might write a sequel to this or something but idk, I just wanted to get it off of my chest for now. God idk how dialogue works.
---
“My lord there is a...visitor.”
The words fell glassily from the servants lips, hitting the marbled floor with an audible clink as they were spoken. Alexander paused to look up from the paperwork laid strewn about his writing desk, the tendrils of his hair shifting about on the floor with languid interest.  Heterochromatic eyes searched the darker ones of the butler who showed only moderate uncertainty to his wording. Unusual, Alexander observed, as all of his servants were taught to be forthright with their decrees to him.
He took his time dipping his quill back into the inkwell at its side, tapping it against the surface, and continuing the body of the letter he had been in the midst of.
“What kind of visitor,” He began in a soft tone, “Would warrant an interruption from my work period?”
He could sense the hesitance in the butler’s shoulders. They tensed as if injected with venom and the leftmost head of his hair snickered its raspy hiss as it grew amused. The middle shushed it, intent on listening as curious as it was. Each of their movements tugged at his scalp in an annoying yet familiar manner. Alexander continued writing, waiting for the response of the other to grace his ears. After moments of deep contemplation, it finally did:
“Well...Lord...It’s a human.”
The quill was dropped promptly down into the inkwell and Alexander rose from his desk, the shadows of the lamplight casting a menacingly serious appearance across his gaze. Eyes illuminated the room like glow sticks as they regarded the servant fully for the first time.
“There are no humans this far within my Kingdom.”
“I’m aware, My Lord. This is why I’ve decided it was pertinent to bring to your attention.”
“A human? A real human?” One of his snakes whispered from behind.
“Ssstrange. How ssstrange! What doesss it want?” The other goaded.
“There isss a ssstorm,” The final regarded thoughtfully, “Perhapsss it got lossst?”
“Silence,” Alexander’s single command sent them into quiet as he gazed onwards from his desk to the servant. A deep breath and he finally gave a short nod.
“Show me to them, then.”
---
Xena stood in the grand entrance room of the castle, taking in everything with an awed sense of fear the likes she couldn’t really remember feeling in her life. From the gothic twirls of the corinthian columns lining the room to the trompe l’oeil on the edges of the high cast ceilings, it felt like everything out of a fairytale. She turned in her stop, arms wrapped around her shoulders as she chewed on her lip, taking it all in.
Someone’s throat cleared behind her, making her startle and turn quickly to face the owner of the voice. The servant who had awkwardly brought her in from the outside stood before her, behind him a man taller than she had ever seen before watched them with stoic curiosity. Her stomach curdled with worry. What would this man do with her?
“Lord Alexander Hyde, King of The Nightmare and Rightful Ruler of The Draisles.” The servant introduced with a flourished bow. The man behind him, Alexander, only rolled his eyes slightly. Still, it was enough for her to catch as detailed as she was. Enough for her to be forced to hide a small grin against a hand as she used the free one to tug lightly at her dress in some semblance of a polite curtsey.
“Hello,” Her voice was soft as he approached her, “I’m...I’m sorry to intrude like this, truly.”
Even standing as straight as she could, he towered over her. He was forced to gaze downwards, making the glow of his eyes even more apprehensivley vindictive than they had felt beforehand. Goosebumps rolled up on her arms before she could stop them.
"And for what reason," he spoke in a deep voice, "is your intrusion?"
There was a pause as the words fell in the back of her throat. Panic seeing her mouth shut, Xena tried to search for the correct string of words that would not get her in trouble with the monsrerous ruler before her. He waited patiently for her thoughts to go through themsely, not so much as shifting or indicating displeasure. The patience was a comfort, enough so that she was able to stand up straight and speak out in a softer voice.
"I was passing through on a stagecoach, planning to go to a nearby town. A storm hit and the horses pulling our coach got loose. I offered to help the driver locate them and return them but...I wandered too far. The storm grew so bad I was forced to ask the nearest place for shelter...and, um, your place is the place."
Her words ended with an equally awkward hand gesture towards Alexander and the servant. Alexander only nodded in understanding, eyes closing as he thought over the situation carefully in his mind.
"An understandable reason to seek assistance,” He declared simply, “I’m aware how threatening the storms of my Kingdom can be to those not built to deal with them.”
He approached her further. Until the two were only a small length apart, enough so that social conduct wouldn’t deem it completely intimate. Alexander extended his hand out with a  lithe flourish and tilting his head to the side. His hair whipped softly around his forehead.
“Allow me to, instead, extend a formal invitation towards you, Miss...”
He trailed off, realizing that she had not yet introduced herself. As she had come to realize it as well, a blush warmed the edges of her cheeks as she averted her gaze sheepishly. “Xena,” she declared in a murmur, “My name is Xena.”
“Miss Xena, then,” He repeated, “You are more than welcome to stay in my home until the storm outside has passed.”
She watched him curiously at first. Her gaze was one of awed skepticism as the two watched one another for what felt like hours. The wind of the storm outside howled viciously around the windows of the castle, claws scratching and pawing in an effort to gain entrance. To ravage the inside as well as the out. Xena swallowed a forming lump in her throat as she dared step forward, giving the monstrous king a nod of understanding.
“Thank-you. I...didn’t expect it h-honestly.” The admittance was sheepish but sincere.
“What,” One of the ringlets of hair finally spoke with a sneer in its serpentine tone, “Did you think we were ssso heartlesss asss to leave you out in the dark?”
“Humansss are ssso cruel to sssussspect that of usss!” Another bemoaned.
The words of the serpents made Xena startle, eyes widening at them as she stepped back a bit in shock. They noticed, and all three serpents snickered to each other as she moved unsurely in their view. Alexander bit the inside of his cheek, reaching one hand back to bat away at the nearest snake’s nose (causing a hiss from the snake and a giggle to erupt from the other two), and gave a reassuring glance towards the human before him.
“I’m s-orry,” She rushed to speak, hands up with worry, “I just meant-! I k-know humans are common here and not a lot of us are liked because...well...yeah and-! Sorry if I’m a bit suspicious is all because you....”
He cut her off with a wave.
“Regardless of what you expected, the offer is true. Not all things in this kingdom hate humans or want to eat them. I’m more fond of pomegranates and steaks than I am of human flesh and teeth. My offer is solely because it would be indecent of me to send anyone back off in such weather alone.”
Xena held her breath the entire time he spoke, afraid he would yell or raise a tone at her. Alexander’s voice remained explanatory and simple, as if he were giving a piece of history in casual conversation. When he was finished, her shoulders relaxed and she gave a slow nod.
“In that case...thank-you, Mister Hyde.”
“Call me Alexander.” He murmured the words almost as an afterthought, surprised they even fell from his own lips. Chewing on her lip, she gave a soft nod in return. The smile Xena was trying to hide was still obvious. It painted her face a beautiful shade of red that made Alexander’s heart skip a beat for a reason he couldn’t seem to figure out.
“Alright, Alexander...Thank-you.”
He was not sure what he expected from this human in his home, now....But he silently hoped it would be entertaining.

A Step-by-Step Guide For Writing a Compelling Article Introduction
Wouldn't it be great if each and every single individual that clicked one of your posts review it from beginning to end, incapable of drawing their eyes away from the display?
I think we both recognize the solution to that concern.
To attain this goal, however, you should understand the art of article writing exciting intros.
Wait for a second; you're thinking and  writing introductions? Isn't that sort of a small detail of a 2,000-word article?
Your article introduction is not tiny information.
The introduction to your article is typically the distinction between interesting readers and having a bounce price high enough to make a click-baiter cringe.
Consider it. You'll shed them if you don't grab your visitors right away.
You experienced all that work of content writing an excellent article, right? You worked hard at it. You spent a great deal of time on it. You did a heap of research.
If your introduction draws, your initiatives will certainly be all for nothing.
You shed prior to you even began!
If you intend to compose great content, improve the success of your advertising campaigns, and boost the loyalty of your followers, you need to master writing intros.
Allow me to show you exactly how.
1. Master the opening line
To have a solid introduction, you require to open with a strong initial sentence.
The millisecond your visitor strikes the web page, they have a very high possibility of leaving the page.
Data claims so.
The initial sentence has one single objective: to entice the reader to read the following sentence. In doing so, it sets the tone for the remainder of the article, hooking the viewers in, one action at once.
If you fall short at this, your readers won't scroll.
This is a histogram revealing how far people scroll via Slate article pages. Each bar represents the share of individuals that quit scrolling at a specific place in the article. (An article is assumed to be around 2000 pixels long; if the top of your internet browser home window gets to the 2000-pixel mark, you're counted as scrolling 100% with the article. The X-axis most likely to 120% since on many pages, there's normally things listed below the 2000-pixel mark, like the remarks area.)
This graph consists of people that spent any time involved with the page whatsoever (users that "jumped" from the page right away after touchdown on it are not stood for.) The graph reveals that many Slate visitors do not scroll in any way. That's the spike at the 0% mark, standing for regarding 5% of readers. Most site visitors scroll concerning midway via a regular Slate tale. The spike near completion is an abnormality brought on by pages, including photos as well as video clips - on those web pages; individuals scroll with the entire page.
As well as if they don't scroll, they won't engage.
Take a look at this article by Dilbert author Scott Adams to see just how the initial sentence is done.
He composes this:
I went from being a negative writer to a good writer after taking a one-day training course in "service writing."
That's a fantastic opening line.
Why? Because it makes me would like to know more!
- How did he come to be an excellent writer?
- What did he discover?
- Could I take advantage of it too?
Adams accomplished. He attracted us in by making us ask questions.
The remaining 980 words of your article will be a complete waste if you do not understand just how to craft an intriguing initial sentence.
Save your writing introduction suggestions in one place across all the paper applications you make use of.
With a couple of easy methods, the good news is for you, writing an incredible initial sentence can be rather simple.
The very first point to bear in mind is that you want to maintain the first sentence brief. This makes it very easy for the visitor to digest the first littles details and stops them from wearying swiftly.
But there is even more to it than that.
It would be best if you made certain that the very first sentence orders the visitor's attention as well as holds it for the remainder of the article.
Below are a number of reliable techniques that produce incredibly compelling, very first lines.
Ask the reader an inquiry.
This is a simple method to get the viewers' focus and get them engaged without a great deal of effort.
For instance, if you are writing an article on stopping your job as well as starting your own business, you could open with the inquiry: "Did you recognize that practically 70% of Americans report being proactively disengaged from their jobs?"
Why does this work?
It concerns the brain's "limbic incentive system."
When this system is triggered, dopamine is released. And also, dopamine gives us a sense of benefit and pleasure.
When we are fascinated by an inquiry, i.e., experience a sense of curiosity, the limbic benefit system brightens. Which's why we intend to keep reading - it's rewarding to please curiosity.
Writer Olga Khazan asks an inquiry that's on everybody's mind, causing the visitor to be instantaneously interested.
We desire to recognize the response to that inquiry, so we maintain reading.
That's why a question is an excellent opening line. You can also make use of the inquiry as to the article title.
Inform a story
The mind likewise illuminates when it comes across a tale.
According to the theory of neural coupling, particular portions of the brain are triggered when a reader believes regarding the very same psychological as well as exercise that a character in a tale is doing.
James Clear normally begins his blog posts with a story, typically a true tale.
The story makes his viewers curious about the article and keeps them reading to the actual end.
Make use of a surprising quote.
An additional excellent method to begin your article is to make use of an attention-grabbing quote.
Allow's say you are writing an article on world traveling. A fantastic method to present the article would undoubtedly be with the quote from Helen Keller:
" Life is a daring experience, or absolutely nothing at all."
Tell the viewers to visualize
Stimulating the imagination is a quick way to attract the visitor right into the experience of the article.
Notification just how this article from Wired For Story begins:
The viewers attempt to comply with the essential by visualizing. This initiative urges the visitor to review further, attracting them into the article.
Writers for The Atlantic are skills at their craft. This writer does the very same thing - asking the visitor to think of it.
Share a fascinating reality.
When the Internet is so rife with crappy details and deceitful "masters," individuals are hesitant in a day and age. They have every factor to be.
Opening your article with a pertinent truth or fact is a wonderful method to develop depend on as well as authority from the first sentence and also let viewers understand you've done your research.
1. Have something one-of-a-kind to state
Okay, so you've crafted an excellent, very first sentence, as well, as you have your reader's interest.
Currently what?
Now, you need to hold that interest by having something unusual and fascinating to claim.
Very few individuals take time and energy regularly to generate new, thought-provoking content. You'll set on your own apart from the herd in a huge method if you do.
Neglect re-purposing of old articles or rewriting things from various other individuals' internet sites. You have to state something they've never listened to prior to if you want to have the visitor's regard and interest.
Unfortunately, a great deal of right stuff you read today has actually been spewed 28 times previously.
Let's imagine you run a traveling blog. Based on my suggestions, you write a number of 3,000-word comprehensive "How-To Guides."
Whenever a reader opens your guide on funding their first-round the globe trip, they'll expect to read all concerning airline company benefits programs, frugality, and bank card points.
Which information is terrific, yet it is likewise really common.
A better intro would certainly be something like this:
Exactly how would you such as to save up enough money in the following 6 months to spend every one of 2017 taking a trip the globe?
That would certainly be pretty epic?
Well, this is entirely feasible, and in today's article, I am most likely to show you just how you can do this.
It's not by avoiding your morning cappuccino or investing hundreds of dollars with your credit score cards on a few hundred miles, either.
I will show you how you can develop a life of flexibility and freedom by leveraging the abilities you already have, tactically picking your locations, and using an unfamiliar tax obligation secret that will conserve you countless dollars!
Sound good? Allow's reach it.
It's tough to be different. I recognize that.
In some cases, to create distinct stuff, we merely have to function harder, assume much longer, and research study greater than our competitors.
Right here are some means you can develop that unique voice in your article introduction:
- Share an individual tale or fact. You're the only you there is. You can share a tale or experience no person else can. One means to tell such a tale is to compose, "If you recognize me ...".
- Get your feelings in it. People have a psychological reaction to feelings. Individuals often tend to respond when we communicate our feelings in our writing. Emotion is additionally a one-of-a-kind as well as an individual thing. How do you connect this in an intro? Easy: "Want to know how I really feel about it? I feel ...".
- Share your objectives or vision. If you have a directing goal or vision permanently, you can communicate this in your intro. "That's one of the factors I composed this article. My goal in life is to ...".
- Make a guarantee. A guarantee is an eye-catching and individual point. Provide your viewers with a contract, and also, it will protect their loyalty and also their interest. "I assure you that I'll do my dead-level ideal to ...".
Distinct isn't easy. It's worth it.
2. Keep it easy.
We live in a globe where most individuals have a focus span of just a few seconds.
Apparently, our focus period is obtaining much shorter!
After a few secs, we get tired and also go on to the following glossy object.
Make sure your existing points as just as possible if you desire your viewers to make time in their days to read what you have to claim.
Longer posts, obviously, deserve longer intros. However, it's important to respect individuals' time and attention. You can not transform what is (people's attention deficit disorder) by writing a lengthy introduction based on what needs to be (longer interest spans).
Stay clear of babbling regarding how terrific your information is, and also share it currently!
3. Talk directly to the viewers.
Whenever you are writing academic products for other individuals, you wish to utilize the words "you" as much (and also as normally) as feasible.
In this article, I've made use of some variation of words you more than 100 times. Why? Because I'm speaking to you! I want you to know this info. I desire you to benefit from it.
By highlighting the word "you" in your article, you show the reader you are straight resolving them and also their situation and not just writing a generic article to the general people.
Yet there's another side to this. I must describe myself as well. My objective is to convey an individual feel to this article. It's me chatting with you? So it's just natural that I would refer to myself as well.
4. Describe what the article is about.
The factor of an intro is exactly that: to introduce the material that will exist in an article.
I can not tell you the variety of times online posts left me also puzzled me after reviewing a few of their paragraphs.
I could not inform whether the writers were educating me on how to run effective Facebook advertisements or telling me an unusual tale concerning their childhood.
Take a few sentences, and plainly explain what the article is most likely to cover without handing out also much information.
This will build suspense around the subject issue while still allowing your target market to understand what they might be in for.
A terrific example of this originates from the Buffer blog. Notification of how the intro positions an inquiry and also after that suggests responding to that concern.
Your curiosity stays high, but the intro sets the phase.
5. Explain the relevance of the article.
It's currently time to clarify why people should care when you've clarified what the article is.
Every person on the net approaches every new item of info with a simple inquiry: "What's in it for me?".
If you desire to create introductions that hook the viewers and aid your web content go viral, you need to master the art of describing what the reader stands to gain from the info you are sharing - the advantages.
How will it profit your visitors' lives? How will it resolve the trouble they are encountering? Just how will it treat a discomfort they are feeling?
You'll maintain your readers glued to your article till the last word if you understand how to quickly and efficiently answer these concerns.
Verdict.
A couple of things can make or damage your article as quickly as an introduction.
Suppose you can grasp the art of an initial couple of paragraphs. In that case, you'll have the ability to enhance reader involvement, improve sales, and also gain a track record as an incredible writer.
It's not an easy ability to master, yet like many Internet marketing points, it's relatively simple.

Non-european countries in the IOL - more wanted please
This post originates from our official blog, for full post go here: http://ift.tt/2vOJIPy
Countries of the IOL 2017
It is well-known that most of the delegations that partake in the IOL are from Europe. I'd like to give a little background to this, and also invite more non-european delegations in. If you can help, be in touch.  This is something I've thought a lot about before, and it was recently brought to the forefront of my mind by the funny blog post "Relief As Registration Closes Before Any African Countries Sign Up" by the satire blog Linguistics Olympiad News Network (yes, we're apparently famous enough to spawn satire and memes).
After the announcement of the countries participating in IOL in Dublin, there was relief visible on the faces of the IOL Problem Committee, who had been waiting in dread at the possibility of a team from Africa going to the competition.
 [...]
In an LNNO exclusive, IOL media correspondent Hedvig Skirgård told us about the last minute panic when Simona Klemenčič opened her email account to see a registration request from a linguistics professor at the University of Dar es Salaam. She told us, “Having consulted with the problem committee who had written three out of the five problems on languages from Tanzania, we regrettably realised that the deadline for registration happened to fall just prior to the email. We wish Tanzania all the best for Prague 2018.”
The blog post was very funny, as someone who has worked with the IOL for quite some time now I found it unusually spot-on. It clearly plays on the fact that since Africa as a continent and Papua New Guinea as a country contains a VAST amount of linguistic diversity, languages from these areas of the world make for great material for linguistic puzzles. I fully understand that the message was not that we would exclude participants from these countries on any other basis than "to make it easier for our Problem Committee and Jury". Now, I'll get to why that isn't true later, but first some background to the bias.
Map from Worldmapper where the countries size have been scaled to represent the relative number of languages within that country compared to the rest of the world. © Copyright Sasi Group (University of Sheffield) and Mark Newman (University of Michigan).
This satirical blog post did make me think of the more pertinent and serious issue of dominance of European countries. There are reasons for this bias, they're mainly historical, but also in part economical. The contest started in Russia and the first international contests were dominated by slavic countries (IOL history is here). The contest later grew to include first non-slavic countries and then non-european countries. The IOL does not run each contest, it's run by local organizers. This means that it is significantly harder for developing countries and countries lacking the necessary infrastructure. Countries and territories of the IOL Nowadays, we don't speak of "countries" of the IOL as much as "countries and territories", in order to accurately represent participating delegations like those from Anglo- and Francophone Canada respectively and Isle of Man. Here is a list of all 43 countries and territories that have partaken at least once:  Canada Francophone, France, Israel, Lithuania, Norway, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Finland, Greece, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, Isle of Man, Japan, Spain, Taiwan, Brazil, China, Hungary, Singapore, Canada Anglophone, Czech Republic, Romania, Australia, India, Ireland, UK, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, USA, Poland , Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Netherlands and Russia. Of those, 30 have an accredited contest. Meaning, there's a contest in that country or territory that the IOL-board has deemed lives up to our criteria and can receive lower registration fees and participate for more than 2 years. The criteria for being accredited are:
be a contest that features problems about linguistics or a closely related field
have a working website that is not excluded from search engine results
be open to all students up to secondary level in the country (i.e not restricted to certain schools or programmes)
display clear information about registration and competing well in advance
have the problem set in the language of the majority of the population or the language of education
have details on how to contact the contest organizers on the website
IOL does not run each contest - the economical problem In order to understand this situation, you also need to understand that the IOL does not directly run each and every national or territory-wide contest. There are separate organisations who do that, they create their own problems and seek their own funding. In order to do this, there needs to be serious enthusiasm and involvement from a group of people and backing from either a non-profit organisation, universities or the ministry of education. On the problem-creating-front, it's worth noting that several national/territory-contest collaborate with each other and share problems. Contrary to what you might think, we actually often receive messages from people in non-european countries who are not yet part of IOL, but who want to join. They contact us here and we try and help as best we can. There's been messages from Uganda, Egypt, Nigeria, Guatemala, Nepal, Kenya, Malaysia and more countries. We then tell them about what would be needed in order to start up a contest, and most of the time they can't meet those requirements and we lose contact. This is sad, and now you know. In particular, the obstacle is often finding the funds to organise a contest that is open too all secondary school students of the country/territory (not just one school) and paying the air fares etc for the international contest. The economical bit isn't the only factor though, there are countries that partake every year that have lower GDP than some who have never partaken (cough, Italy, cough). There is also the matter of there being hard working volunteers and the infrastructure (support from ministry of education, companies or non-profits). The Maths Olympiad can, so why can't we? The International Mathematical Olympiad covers 100 countries and is in some ways similar to the IOL (though much older). My hope is that we will also become as large. The obstacles we're facing are partly economical, but there's also the fact that linguistics isn't taught as a basic subject in schools. We won't let this deter us though, we'll keep aiming high and spreading knowledge about languages, linguistics and our olympiad! Would the Problem Committee (PC) really prefer that fewer non-european countries join? Of course not, I take that as a given. First let's talk about the languages the problems are in, not about. The PC has in the past shown great talent in scouting out language experts to help with translation of problem sets for the participants (all without the knowledge of the national/territory team leaders or organisers). I have no doubt they can take anything we throw at them. Note that the languages of the IOL need to be dominant or official in the country of the contest, so we are not selecting from all 7,000+ languages of the world. For those who might not know: the problem committee does not work with a base version of the problem in English and then translates into the others. They work with a version in a between language Ivan chooses to call "solverese". If you want to read more about multilingual editing of the IOL problems, we propose that you read this paper written by the Ivan:
Derzhanski, Ivan (2013) Multilingual Editing of Linguistic Problems, In Proceedings of the Fourth Workshop on Teaching NLP and CL August 2013 Sofia, Bulgaria Association for Computational Linguistics 27–34 http://ift.tt/1uRZrJr [in English]
Now to the issue of the language the problems are about, rather than in. It is true that the PC seeks to make problems about languages that the contestants are unlikely to know. (The closest we've come in the past to the issue of participants knowing the language of the problem must have been when Australia competed and there was a problem in Vietnamese. That turned out alright in the end, phew!) It should also be said that many of the national/territory contest organisers do probe contestants to disclose what languages they know, and should there be concern the board and/or PC is alerted. Furthermore, most languages are spoken by few people. This is a sad fact, but necessary to relate. This makes it easier to pick a language the contestants do not know, even if they're from language dense areas. Here's a diagram showing the population per language, based on the 19th edition of Ethnologue.
Speakers per language Infogram
Here is a table from Ethnologue that tries to explain this as well, a bit niftier.
Table from Ethnologue summarising the number of speakers per language.
For further background, of the 7,000+ languages in the world there are grammars or grammar sketches of approximately 3,500 of them (Glottolog). Participants of the IOL are not likely to know all of these, even if participants from Africa or PNG would make the scope smaller there's still plenty left. If we then add to that that most grammars of languages of the world are written in languages the PC knows, that makes it even "easier" for them. Not that this is an easy task, but you get my drift.

Help us spread the contest to more places
Finally, we do want there to be linguistic olympiads in more places than there currently are. If you think you can lend a hand with that, do let us know. Perhaps you're a local linguist who would like to make problems? An employee at Google/Apple/Microsoft who could persuade the company to allocate some funds for a local contest? A keen student or teacher who'd like to get together a group and set something up? Or a  meming former contestant who would like to give even more back?

Unreliable Narrator in The Six Thatchers is NOT Go
I’m with @sussexbound on how to interpret The Six Thatchers. I don’t think it’s a retelling for an alibi or an imagined sequence or mind palace. I could be wrong, and will be happy to accept any and all told-you-so’s in that case, but coming from a story telling perspective, odds are good that the story is meant to be accepted as is.
For me, it comes down to how stories build trust with the audience.
Once you establish the rules of a story world, you can’t break them without also breaking the trust of the reader. It’s a contract. The reader agrees to suspend their disbelief and buy into your story world. You, in turn, promise to give them a story world that is consistent and has some kind of internal logic--even if it’s the most fantastical story world imaginable.
Sure, there’s experimental storytelling in which there truly are no rules or internal logic but Sherlock is definitely not that kind of story.
I’m going to go into more detail and analysis of this, and it got long so I’m putting it under a cut. Basically, tl;dr: Revealing that entire episodes that appear to follow the established story-world rules are either complete fabrications or mind-palace fantasies utterly destroys the viewer-storyteller contract and break trust with the audience because it’s not part of the deal the story creators set up at the beginning.
You have some stories, for example Life of Pi that seem to be telling a thrilling and slightly fantastic tale, only to have a surprise ending that throws the entire story into doubt.
That isn’t breaking any story rules. The entire tale is over-the-top difficult to believe in the first place, and there is only the one twist at the very end that makes you doubt the surface telling of the story. Because the tone and mood is already almost dream-like and fantastic, the reveal that the narrator is unreliable is fair play and makes for a great surprise ending. Additionally, the whole point to the entire book is that you (the reader) would rather believe the fanciful, unbelievable feel-good version than the dreadful and more realistic version that the narrator gives us at the end.
In TAB, the entire Victorian premise was clearly not “in-world” so the reveal that it was basically a mind palace drug trip is also fair play because it actually helps the episode conform to the show’s rules. The only modern scene in that episode that is clearly fantasy is the graveyard scene, and the initial clue that it’s not real there is that Sherlock wakes up not on the plane. But both plane scenes follow established Sherlock story world rules.
Series 1 establishes the story-world rules of Sherlock. It’s a realistic, rational world where Sherlock and Mycroft have unusual abilities but those abilities are explained in a natural, plausible way by the fact that they’re both highly intelligent and funnel all their mental and emotional resources into maintaining those abilities. There’s subtext and there is also a lot more adventures and thrills than most ordinary people face, but the stories and the events that happen are clearly meant to be taken as real within that world.
Series 1 also establishes a story world rule that people may not be what they first appear. The cabbie is actually a serial killer. Jim from IT is actually the world’s only Consulting Criminal. The quiet girl working at the museum is actually a former member of a smuggling gang.
So Mary turning out to be a top assassin? Absolutely fair play. Follows the rules brilliantly.
Other pertinent Sherlock story rules:
--The show uses on-screen graphics to show texts, Sherlock’s thoughts, John’s notes, etc. It also uses funky transitions and unusual camera work. It’s part of the show’s storytelling style. It may or may not convey subtext or mood but it’s definitely not going to be essential to understand the actual story.
--The show has a rich setting, especially 221B, that contains canon easter eggs and clues and subtext. But those details are in there for fun and to make the story richer. They are not essential to understanding the story either. The creators don’t require the audience to have Sherlock-level deductive skills to make sense of the show.
This all means it’s unlikely that a major plot point or rug pull is going to rely on the audience picking up on a lighting choice or a difference in a minor throw-away line in order to understand it. Any time that a detail like that is significant, usually Sherlock or someone else points it out (such as “hound” being a key word or John’s chair missing, etc.) It’s great that all those details are there for those of us who want to obsess over them, but to expect the larger audience to comprehend a story based on that is unrealistic.
So what are the story-world rules for the Mind Palace? That one isn’t as clearly established in Series 1. We get hints, but we don’t really get to see Sherlock’s thought processes until Series 2, when he explains about mind palaces, and we’re shown an external representation of it.
I think series 3, TSoT, is the first time we are brought inside the mind palace, right? But even then, we are given pretty clear signals--the scene changes, it’s obviously unrealistic, people appear and disappear. And then we’re brought back into the real story-world where the rules continue as originally established.
In HLV, the mind-palace scenes are also clearly delineated, with maybe the one exception of the scene where Sherlock is in the cafe meeting with Magnussen. That one could be mind palace, or something, simply because there are clearly implausible details such as Sherlock being out in public in his hospital gown and still hooked up to machines. But given that later both Sherlock and Magnussen refer back to this meeting makes me think that the meeting did actually occur in some way, whether or not the setting we were shown is accurate.
But after that, the Christmas at Holmes’ house, Appledore, the tarmac--all of those fit the established story-world rules of high adventure but still within plausibility. They are, I believe, meant to be taken as in-world fact.
So for series 4 and TST, the plain reading of the story line follows those established rules. High adventure, but not fantasy. A secretary that turns out to be more than she appears. There’s nothing implausible in what happens or sudden, impossible setting changes to indicate that this is mind palace.
Yes, there’s a “Hollywood death scene” but let’s be honest--every single death scene in this show has been pretty Hollywood. It fits with the tone of the show--everything is a bit over the top and high intensity. But it’s meant to be taken as real given that established story world.
So what about the unreliable narrator? Is Sherlock, like Pi Patel, giving us a more palatable version of a dark story? Is he trying to protect John? I don’t think so. If that were the case, we would have been given a clear signal from the start. And not just a possible allusion or parallel, such as the doctored footage of Sherlock shooting Magnussen.
Every time there’s been an unreliable narration in the story, that’s been exposed explicitly, usually before the end of the episode. Irene Adler wasn’t killed--Sherlock saved her. There was no monstrous hound--it was a drug and a bad-tempered dog. Sherlock didn’t actually die in TRF--the audience was shown that he was alive. Sherlock wasn’t really dating Janine. Magnussen’s vaults were actually his version of mind palace.
The only possible exception to this is if Moriarty is actually still alive. But even this doesn’t break the story rules because there have been other faked deaths in the show, and our POV characters are in the dark as much as we are. It’s a mystery, not an unreliable narration.
So for TST to suddenly be a fabrication, with no clear signal to us as the audience and no exposure of that by the end of the episode--that’s a huge violation of the established rules. It would break the audience’s trust. They wouldn’t feel they could believe anything else in the rest of the series. And that’s not the kind of show that Sherlock is.
It’s because the rules apply to the viewing audience. They don’t apply to characters in-world. So Sherlock lying to other characters is fair play. But lying to the audience is not fair play. (And by “lying” I am not referring to show runners lying about plot points during interviews. I’m talking about the story’s narrative itself and the audience’s experience viewing the episode.)
I’m not sure how to put this into words, but there’s a difference between putting the audience in suspense, misleading them, or withholding information from them and out-and-out lying to them. We generally expect in a story, especially a mystery, to not have the full picture right away. We even expect to be misled. (UMQRA, Borgia Pearl, the cabbie’s passenger, etc.) And we expect that Sherlock will pick up on things we missed and give us the grand denouement at the end. That’s part of the game, and it fits the rules.
Sometimes we don’t know right away that Sherlock is lying, but we are almost always let in on the secret sooner than, or at the same time as, the characters in the story. (Sherlock rescuing Irene, Sherlock surviving the fall.) It’s part of the contract.
The problem comes when you have all the POV characters, or the audience surrogate, in on the secret or lie and the audience is left out in the cold. That’s when the contract gets broken and you lose the audience’s trust.
This is why Sherlock making up TST would be lying to the audience and breaking the rules. There’s no signal, no clear nod to us that what we’re viewing is Sherlock’s lie. And I am not counting things like small inconsistencies or a strangely lit wall prints as legitimate signals because according to the established show rules, details like that aren’t essential for understanding the story. They only enhance the story experience for people interested in exploring it further. A signal needs to be pretty clear and something that the majority of viewers will recognize as a signal.
For example, if the show had opened with Sherlock giving a police report or talking to Ella and looking clearly uncomfortable or saying something that could be interpreted as he’s not giving them the real story, then I’d say that’s a pretty good signal. Or if it was a recurring dream, I’d expect to see more fantasy elements or scenes that repeat throughout the whole episode in ways that are clearly not realistic (not just one repeat of Mary and John talking in bed or one repeat of John getting off the bus.)
That said, I do think the main part of TST is shown as a flashback. The opening scene shows Sherlock going to meet Vivian Norbury in the aquarium, and then the shark swims overhead and we’re taken back to the start of the story to show how he got there. That’s a flashback, and it doesn’t mean the story is a fabrication. It’s simply a common storytelling device.
Here’s a Mycroft wikipedia article on unreliable narrators. It goes into the literary theory and history as well as signs of unreliable narration:
Intratextual signs such as the narrator contradicting himself, having gaps in memory, or lying to other characters
Extratextual signs such as contradicting the reader's general world knowledge or impossibilities (within the parameters of logic)
Reader's literary competence. This includes the reader's knowledge about literary types (e.g. stock characters that reappear over centuries), knowledge about literary genres and its conventions or stylistic devices
If Sherlock was shown incontrovertibly to be narrating TST, and if there were clear and significant intratextual signs that he was contradicting himself, then I’d say we’ve got an unreliable narrator. But he isn’t shown anywhere relating the story to anyone, not even Ella.
I’ve already discussed the lack of extratextual signs--the TST story doesn’t violate any of what we know to be the show’s established story world rules.
And the reader’s (or viewer’s in this case) literary competence? Well, that’s what we’re doing right now by looking at the show’s story-world rules. They simply have not established any reason for us to suspect that an entire episode is false. In order for us to modify our expectations, we would need to have those other signals to show us that the rules have now changed.
Lacking those signs, it makes the most sense to me to interpret the episode as real within the show’s world.

I dreamed that I was chain mail, shield and sword forge. V. S. Vysotsky " Instruction"- Nu, that you, the author, sad? The nurse hung up, you see – it stuck!  Man, we're friends and I envy you. You same, the first reader, not coined! Something always can, I can debridement. To create your Vasechkina, V. V., and in return I'll tell you superkasko about the adventures of the blacksmith and musician, is revived from the ashes and flashed Vaskina idea. And it was so. Once upon a time there was a music teacher, an ordinary teacher with hairline and glasses. And like all creative people, he had his own indescribable style, though hidden in a very dark and terrible closet of life.He taught children in the music school of a small and clean town-a satellite of the metropolis to play the accordion and the accordion.  For weddings and corporate parties called him regularly, and tutoring to earn money, as all is not forgotten.  Here one of the students in gratitude for the educational services once brought him an old battered score.  The cover depicted the city of dragons. At the entrance to the valley, one could see the alluring silhouettes of an adult and a child. They stood at the gate in the form of two stone statues. On the horizon a magical land in the fog, could be seen the towers of the emerald city.  And before peering on the cover in menacing form clearly could see the guard dragon. The secret of the works of music was in their harmonious performance with the soul, and even a duet.  Here is a Golden key to distinguish the country of dragons.  Where and got our unusually-random tormentor of children. The first dragons he met were red-chested, very small dragons, and they gave off a cold dream. As later it was found out, this is the most numerous and uneducated kind of residents of the fire state. Dragons are constantly told is not the topic very pertinent points. But one of them could help to Orient the teacher when in the apartment, the walls turned into leaves, rattling in a light breeze. Zadurit head a hundred times, knocking off the true path, the red-bellied dragons free brought the traveler to the right place. The forge was with a high Smoking pipe and a water mill wheel. Within waited is a master with accordion. And asked play in exchange for protection and aid in return home.  Thus ended Monday, which seemed to the protagonist of the whole week. Tomorrow is another day. And the sun in the blackened window of the blacksmith of his own happiness was drawing to a close. Since morning the postponed active conversation with questions and action was started. The accordion did not expect, but could, in addition to pressing on the keys, to wield a sword and shield that was discovered in the workout. But the mail just did not work: it is not the size, the weight of excess, eager even from blunt weapons. To find the right chainmail is hampered by the lack of woven nettle, truly loving arms, podkolodniy. The material in the austere environment of the world otkul came the Accordion, learn to handle a sword and shield can still be yourself, explained Smith.  But without relatives of talismans sensible it is impossible. Remaining in the world, the family, which wildly missed the Accordion, left him without the armor. Yeah, yeah, not perfect, but a hot favorite family he couldn't get through to with his dreams. Smith was distraught when she learned that the world does not remember the names of great-grandparents, not to mention other relatives.Decided friends details to chain mail forge in the flame dragon. So another day, Tuesday, flew by unnoticed in training camp but disputes.First, a few passing down the river, met the great white dragon. Kind of these dancers was very different those, that had three heads, two of which talked opposing opinion.  And the final, rather unexpected opinion was expressed by the third head.  After learning the purpose of travel, the dragon a little angry and had to defend himself, who wants to be eaten! Smith stopped was rushing to attack the Accordion with the words "You better play the harmonica!". At military bells began ringing first sound, and the head is calling itself re - anger was orange, her left agnosias FA was green often surprise, and right head LA - sinelo shame.  The song died down with the battle. The dragon agreed to help, and his diverse pulsating flame was a perfect fit the flexible braided part of the armor. On Thursday to him myself in the smithy knocked another black coloring of the serpent-dragon. This dragon had his head in place. More precisely on all three, which did not contradict each other. And you said one phrase, even one word. He turned out to be an expressionist artist and learned from the talkers that people conceived, rushed and was ready to help for a small concert.  During the conversation the head of MI - always started, and her yellow eyes frightened, then picked up the head of SALT - with the kindest blue eyes, and of the point in the sentence, even one word, put a head SEA with indifferent purple peepers. Equal measured classic flame came to produce heavy-duty chest plates. As the promised payment was arranged a Banquet with songs, dances, and tea. Yes overdone, made a noise so that the neighbors called law enforcement dragons with flickering blue red scales and Friday morning the main characters met in agonizing anticipation.Dragon action name BEFORE it came, as it was before the information in the agenda since Friday morning. And has brought verdict -????? these little people to be pampered our city dancers. And making the search for weapons and armor ready for the return of the pointless red dragon had thrown to earth, the Blacksmith with his Accordion. But the Muse of the accordion and here helped and incorruptible to pulled up to the last term of sending, having managed to forge the last element, chain mail – rings. So with a pile of metal, to fit on balcony, in the society of a Blacksmith, became his home, and chatty sampleschema red dragon, accidentally stuck in the rush, ended up a music teacher at home. The question remains, how to sew, to piece together the details of the armor.  And Smith for Saturday managed to get acquainted with humans and not childish and sad. Barely brought him to life and he began to teach dragon clearly and specifically expressed. It is slowly and returned to the owner, who could know in advance which guests will come to him.And on Sunday the Accordion player broke through again, the talent was revealed and gave fruit. The teacher understood, where he was a torturer.  Yes, after such adventures, but the explanation to his wife - not even understand! Did the harmony and a lot of metal sounded and lit up.  He saw that the small dragon is beating, asking for the will of fire of the Firebird in the usual way bullfinch.  He saw macrocosms, where you can draw a little continents, contours of continents on planets, or arrange the initial explosions, creating new whole worlds.Saying goodbye, the Blacksmith left the weapon of opposites: the sword of fire and air shield of earth and water.  Phoenix-bullfinch, who left the children on each element of the chain mail-sewing it, decided to fly into the world of colored notes and his advice was no longer to confuse male and female energy in weapons.   How about tonight? Troshkov broke up the boredom? Try the Eighth wonder of the world – armor for the unity of diversities - we said goodbye to the hackneyed character Vasechkin the arrogant voice of its author and whinnied like a horse.  P.C.  Моя любимая сказочка из самого первого цикла. И редкий случай когда рассказ похвалили первый раз.

Online Gambling Game
Net Casinos Inc. (ICI), the arenas first on line on line casino, started out working from August 18, 1995, with 18 extraordinary games. Due to the fact then more than 1,400 websites, normally domiciled in small Caribbean islands, have given upward push to an industry that grosses over $three billion a year. In fact no commercial enterprise at the internet earns more sales than on line playing. Out of the anticipated 14.five million on-line gamblers, nearly 30 in line with cent are from Asia.
A guess can be positioned in mines. everybody with a credit card can set up an offshore for account with a gambling website, leaving them unfastened to location bets on carrying events like Wimbledon, cricket, horse racing and formulation One, or be a part of a digital on line casino to play slot machines, roulette, blackjack, poker and so on. organizations like Flutter and Betmart receive bets on something from who's going to win the Nobel Prize to whether or not Madonna is getting a divorce or now not. Bets can range from a nickel to thousands of dollars and consistent with whether you win or lose the quantity is mechanically adjusted in your account. The very last balance can then either be mailed to you or left for destiny bets.
The regulation referring to on-line gambling in India desires to be understood inside the use’s socio-cultural context. On the outset, playing, although now not simply prohibited in India, does now not acquire express encouragement by using policy makers. The Indian prepared playing industry is estimated to be really worth around US eight billion. At the same time as stringent laws have checked the proliferation of casinos and high street gaming facilities as in many other international locations, barring the state of Goa, the lottery business stays the most submit popular form of gambling.
Even though playing isn't always illegal, it's far a rather controlled and controlled pastime. Current India is a quasi-federal Constitutional democracy and the powers to legislate are distributed at the federal in addition to the state levels. Gambling functions in list II of the charter of India, this means that the state governments have the authority to enact legal guidelines so that it will alter playing in the respective states. Accordingly, there may be no single regulation governing playing in the complete u. s. a... Unique states have exceptional laws governing playing in addition to the laws which have an utility across the united states. While a few states have banned lotteries, different states permit state government lotteries marketed and disbursed in other lottery playing and promoting states thru private entities.
Regulation of playing
The courts have described playing as 'the payment of a price for a chance to win a prize'. The dominant detail of talent or chance shall decide the nature of the game. A game may be deemed to be gambling if the element of danger or good fortune predominates in identifying its outcome. As a end result, Indian courts have held that having a bet on horse racing and some card games aren't gambling. The right to undertake the enterprise of playing and lotteries is not taken into consideration as a essential proper blanketed via the charter of India. it can but be talked about that the state government run lotteries make enormous contributions to the nation exchequer of several nation governments and the Union authorities, and therefore there may be a resistance to finish prohibition.
The following legislation is pertinent to playing:
The general public Gaming Act, 1867
This Act offers punishment for public gambling and for maintaining of a 'not unusual gaming house'. This Act additionally authorizes the country governments to enact laws to adjust public gambling of their respective jurisdictions. The penal law in respective states was amended in accordance with their coverage on playing. But, this rule does not have any direct effect on on-line gambling except a huge interpretation is given to the definition of common gaming residence with a view to encompass virtual forums as nicely.
The Indian agreement Act, 1872 (ICA)
The ICA is a codified umbrella rules that governs all industrial contracts in India. Under the ICA, a wagering agreement is the only which can't be enforced. The Act lays down; 'Agreements by means of way of wager are void, and no fit shall be brought for recuperating anything supposed to be won on any bet or entrusted to any character to abide by way of the end result of any game or different uncertain event on which any wager is made'. Playing, lottery and prize video games have held to be wagering contracts and consequently void and unenforceable. While a wagering settlement isn't illegal, it cannot be enforced in a court of regulation. As a result, the courts will now not entertain any motive of motion that arises out of a wagering settlement.
Lotteries (regulation) Act, 1998
This Act gives a framework for organizing lotteries inside the country. Under this Act, the state governments were legal to promote as well as prohibit lotteries inside their territorial jurisdiction. This Act additionally offers for the manner wherein the lotteries are to be performed and prescribes punishment in case of breach of its provision. Lotteries now not legal with the aid of the country had been made an offence beneath the Indian Penal Code. several non-lottery playing states, like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, have prohibited the sale of different kingdom-government lotteries underneath this Act.
Indian Penal Code, 1860
Phase 294A deals with preserving lottery workplace. It says that whoever keeps any workplace or place for the motive of drawing any lottery no longer being a kingdom lottery or a lottery authorized through the state authorities, will be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may additionally amplify to six months, or with best, or with each.
And whoever publishes any inspiration to pay any sum, or to deliver any goods, or to do or forbear doing something for the gain of any person, on any event or contingency relative or applicable to the drawing of any price ticket, lot, wide variety or discern in this type of lottery, will be punished with quality which can also make bigger to a thousand rupees.
Net playing
The regulation related to gambling is also applicable to on-line playing. All gambling contracts are taken into consideration to be wagering contracts and it isn't always feasible to put in force such contracts beneath the ICA, distinctive above.
As pointed out earlier, the web lottery is the maximum famous shape of net playing in India. Most organizations advertising and distributing or conducting country government-backed lotteries through the internet are not allowed to sell their offerings in the states that banned lotteries. In maximum cases, those entrepreneurs and vendors restrict their on line services to consumers who're residents of the states where a lottery is permissible. Notwithstanding the truth there was no suggested case of breach by means of any corporation promoting online lotteries, maximum of these groups (as a safeguard) are trying to find a venture from their purchasers relating to their house.
There had been times in which one country has banned the lottery of different states, including online lotteries. In a recent case, the Karnataka high courtroom upheld the choice of the Karnataka government to make itself a 'lottery loose region' via enforcing a ban on lotteries of all other states, along with online lotteries underneath the Lotteries (law) Act 1998. The state authorities, in this case, directed the closure of the terminals and kiosks selling the net lotteries.
Enforcement over foreign jurisdictions
If the web sites are hosted and operated from outdoor India, it can be difficult for the Indian government to problem any directive to close them down or restrict their get admission to without the use of its blocking off powers underneath the ITA. The governments have little to worry about, as Indian foreign exchange legal guidelines do no longer permit remittances outdoor India for playing related interest, together with the purchase of lottery tickets, football pools and sweepstakes. As a result, a gambling website hosted outdoor India aiming at receiving money from within India cannot do so through prison channels.
Conclusion
On-line playing stays an enormously regulated quarter with reputedly restrained horizons to develop. Whilst the prevailing regulatory framework makes it tough for offshore playing websites to goal customers in India, the India-based totally groups can most effective distribute and market kingdom-government lotteries on line in approved territories. The pervasive authority with the government to block playing associated web sites and the impossibility of implementing playing-associated contracts similarly discourage the prospects for the industry.

Power Bank 50000mah in Nigeria
How many occasions can a 20000mAh electric power lender absolutely charge your telephone? Let us consider EasyAcc Monster twenty,000mAh ability lender as a test illustration. How Numerous Periods Can a 20000mAh Electric power Bank Completely Demand Your Machine
Basically, how many periods can a 20000mAh ability lender entirely demand your system, smartphone, tablet, Gopro, even a macbook, is appropriate to 3 main aspects. >>> Click here for Laptop Power Bank in Nigeria #one what machine you wanna demand with a 20000mAh electrical power lender? The 1st element is about how substantially potential your device’s battery is. Usually speaking, a great rule of thumb is to divide the mAh of 20000mAh energy lender by the mAh of your unit battery. So a 20000mAh electricity bank can "theoretically" cost an Apple iphone six additionally from 1-100% 6.9 occasions (20000 / 2915 = 6.9). Retain in head: this is never 100% precise as there still some other variables involved which will impact the charging moments, which is often larger than what a 20000mAh electricity lender can basically give. #2 what is the gadget executing even though it is being billed It’s not unusual to see the device billed, for illustration, by a 20000mAh electricity lender, when you are continue to employing the gadget. So is there any variation among utilizing the machine while it’s plugged into and leaving the gadget by itself or on airplan manner even though it’s billed? The remedy is undoutedly Indeed. If you are observing a film on your unit while the 20000mAh energy lender is charging it, much more electricity drained from the 20000mAh electrical power lender and meantime it looks that your gadget is in no way billed. That is simply because you’re using the ability more rapidly than the 20000mAh fees your system. And the number of times your ability bank 20000mAh would lessen. If you leave your gadget by itself or on airplan method whilst charging, you will get a lot more completely charges considering the fact that the gadget is not having considerably battery demand at all although the 20000mAh energy financial institution is charging up the system. what is the gadget executing although charged. #three The charging cycles of the electricity financial institution 20000mAh. >>> Click here for Romoss Power Bank Jumia in Nigeria A lot more charging cycles the power lender has taken, its capability will correspondingly decrease a very little although you really do not have to have to treatment about that. Theoretically, the potential will minimize to 80% right after 300 charging cycles. If so, a 20000mAh electricity financial institution may have a 16000mAh capacity. This is also pertinent to the temperature when you are utilizing your power bank. And this position I consider you could locate out on the manual when you brought the electrical power lender.

Transportable battery chargers, much better acknowledged as Energy Bank have turn out to be some wonderful utility for smartphone consumers as it not only assists to keep your units charged up although on-the-go, but also due to the fact they in spite of getting handy and portable, can cost your smartphone and pill multiple moments dependent on capacity. Tecno Electricity Lender Image Nevertheless, do you know the basic characteristics you require to continue to keep in head although likely for a excellent transportable battery charger? If not, then preserve reading prior to grabbing a person of the very best electric power banks on the internet. This post will tutorial on your critical criteria when buying your electric power bank. Power Bank Capacity Capacity of a electricity bank is the most important function of a portable battery charger, indicating how much electrical vitality it can keep inside of by itself and can benefit from the similar though charging your cell equipment. The unit for measuring the electrical vitality capability of a moveable battery is mAh. You could possibly have arrive across figures 10400 mAh, 5200mAh, 2600mAh and so forth. They materialize to be various of 2600 mAh since the foundation of a Li-ion battery mobile is 2600 mAh. But in advance of elaborating what Li-ion battery mobile is, permit me wrap the capacity segment up by mentioning that however the common conception goes like larger potential energy financial institutions are much better, however, it is a slip-up as individuals who say these forgets that with capacity, the physical sizing of the moveable charger also gets elevated and so does the value. So, go for the best capacity that your spending budget lets. Li-ion and Li-poly are nothing at all but two variation of the battery cells which are commonly used to constitute the very best electric power financial institutions. Most of the battery packs go for the Li-ion as they are much less expensive but portable chargers becoming constituted with Li-ion tends to come to be much bulkier in comparison to the Li-Poly. Not only Li-poly, getting sleeker, can provide the provision to the companies to manipulate the size and form of the electric power banks even more, they are safer in terms of utilization as very well. A Li-Po Battery can also retain its charge for a longer time. Input and Output latest ranking Input and output rankings indicate how speedy your power lender and the units receives billed. Usually, they arrive with a figure of 5V at two.1 A and 5V at 1 A. Definitely, two.one A rating would make the product cost quicker. On the other hand, for a two.1A rated energy bank to get charged speedy, you need to also use a 2.1A rated wall charger as applying a reduce rated charger like a 1A rated wall charger that a commonly additional commonplace will be counter-productive. Variety of USB ports Variety of ports on a Electric power Financial institution performs the essential part if you are heading to have a will need to demand many units concurrently. Commonly most of the moveable chargers below ten thousand mAh capability (scaled-down capability) does not come up with a number of output port alternative. The purpose is obvious they are simply just not huge sufficient to cost up a lot more than a single device at a time. By the way, it is critical to know the the quantity of output ports of a electricity lender impact output present-day when charging a number of units at the same time. To get much more obvious about this, let’s choose the example of the Mi 16000 mAh electricity bank, which comes with two USB output ports (whilst the 10400 mAh variant has only 1 output port) and claims to demand gadgets (smartphone or pill) at 2.1 A at 5V. Electrical power Financial institution with Several Output Having said that, this claim is only real when charging only just one gadget at a time. When you use both ports at the very same time, this individual electricity financial institution is capable of giving at max three A at 5 V (i.e. 1.5 A per port) alternatively of usually presumed 4.2 A. So, in advance of selecting one battery pack, especially if rapidly charging is a priority to you, then this factor must be taken care of scrupulously. It is a good plan to go by a trusted power financial institution assessment about a specific portable charger to get to know much more about these specs for that specific electricity lender. Electrical power Bank with pass via Charging The previous element you may well be in search of to make confident it is supported by your supposed electrical power bank is go through charging. At this place you could be imagining what the heck is that! It is basic, any ability financial institution with move by charging characteristic would be in a position to electricity up itself (self-demand) and at the identical time be charging your smartphone(s). Generally this function is meant to be present in every single electric power financial institution as it would seem rudimentary, but guess what, most electrical power banking companies miss out on this all important function. 1 energy lender that provides this time saving attribute is the Huawei 13000 mAh ability financial institution.
