"Sansa = Ned 2.0 and Arya = Catelyn 2.0" is one of those takes where you can just tell people are more attached to the aesthetic than anything. "The Stark girls are most like the parent they look least like" sounds good on paper and people run with the idea, regardless of how it actually fits into the story. A majority of the justification relies on misinterpreting all of their characters + a healthy dose of fanon. What gets me is that this is the same fandom that insists that Lyanna, only compared to Arya in the text, is equal parts Arya and Sansa but Ned and Catelyn, two fully fleshed-out and complex characters, have to be more like one girl or the other? There's just nothing in the story to justify being so adamant about these comparisons. Arya and Sansa have parallels with both of their parents but at the end of the day, they are unique characters with their own stories. I'll never understand why people want to flatten these complex characters down to their most basic tropes and fit them into restrictive boxes just for a "poetical~" comparison.
#arya stark#sansa stark#catelyn stark#ned stark#house stark#asoiaf#BORING YAWNING SLOPPY#notice how these takes never come with actual evidence from the books to make direct comparisons from the text?#/ned is a gentle quiet poitican/ and he physically attacks someone + constantly shows his frustration and voicing his opinions#our first introduction to him is him executing a man and we know he's done so several times that year#he says that his toddler son needs to grow up and stop being afraid of a giant wolf cause /winter is coming/ and Northern life is hard 😭#/Cat is a feral wild woman/ and her chapters are full of her holding her tongue and trying to mediate situations#people literally switch their characterizations cause the second a woman shows emotion she's /feral/#and a man can be the most wild unhinged character ever and still be /kind/ and /gentle/#like yeah fanon sansa is fanon ned 2.0 and fanon arya is fanon cat 2.0 but their actual characters are more complex then that#the only valid /2.0/ comparison is between Lyanna and Arya but somehow she gets split between Arya and Sansa 🥴#my hourly frustration at this fandom not caring about the story and only being here for /the vibes~/#like Ned hates Tourneys and protests one as a waste of resources while Sansa is planning a Tourney and using resources while winter#is arriving and smallfolk are going hungry...but she's Ned 2.0? Where? How? Huh?#And yeah Ned deals with politics in KL but that's relatively a small aspect of his character#and even him constantly speaking his mind and challenging Robert directly is the exact opposite of Sansa's approach 😭#/courtesy is a Lady's armor/ vs. /I'm gonna tell Robert he's an idiot right to his face/ oh yeah totes the same#Arya is the character following his advice and guidance for a reason just saying#like if Sansa was doing the same I could see it but she..isn't? Her approach is much closer to Catelyn's than Ned's#I don't understand why people have all of the sudden decided that the Sansa/Cat parallels are shallow when they're#very similar characters and Sansa's current plot actually revolves around that fact#obviously they're not exactly alike but no two characters are or even meant to be...their comparisons are still very valid#tired of being expected to accept an idea just because enough people repeat it

I don't like any of the maps I've seen for HTTYD so i'm playing a puzzle game w all the locations. This is the 3rd version so far
#httyd#how to train your dragon#httyd map#rtte#race to the edge#mm i already see things i wanna change lmao#the red circle is the are where the Red Death has control#not every dragon in there is under her control but all the dragons of her flock stay there so it's the area where dragon raids happen#i don't believe in the 3rd movie so there's no hidden world but if there WAS i'd put it there hence the ()#also i saw someone saying how funny itd be if hiccup's sarcastic narration of the 1st movie's opening scene was actually the names of place#hence ''freezing to death'' ''hopeless'' and especially ''the meridian of misery''#idk how i feel abt the bewilderbeast under berserker island so instead they're barely located in the red death's territory hence the lack o#raids#and since they're not in war w the dragons n don't get raided they have more people and can actually afford resources and time to things#like fighting other ppl and pillaging like actual vikings#the upper square is the map that berk&berserkers&freezing to death etc use#they're all p concerned w the dragon raids so there's not much energy put to exploring or interacting w Other ppl#n traders rarely go there#they're the weirdos who've settled too close to a dragon nest in the north#n the lower square is the map viggo has and where his Dragon Hunters mainly operate#im thinking of shifting that more to the right to put the rookery where the 'northern markets' currently are#also something that bothers me is that we never rly explore any normal villages#like we've got berk&the berserkers. then we've got uhh 2 dragon-friendly islands the dragon hunters and drago#like who is buying all that dragon product? who are the tribes of the other chieftains in the meeting drago burned down?#where is everyone???

Could I ask you to explain, in simple terms, what is the electoral college? I tried reading the wikipedia article but I just couldn't understand anything.
Basically every state gets a determined number of electors, and the electors vote on who gets to be president. The electors do not neatly scale with how many people are in that state, so some states have disproportionate voting power. Meaning that even if the popular vote favors one president (as has happened before), if the other one gets enough votes in the right states, the electors have to elect them instead. That's how Trump became president despite having 2 million less votes than Hilary Clinton: he won in the states that are disproportionately favored by the electoral college.
And yes, we have been trying to reform or abolish the thing since 1800, with the closest we came to it being in 1969 when Nixon got elected, and which got all the way to the Senate floor before it was filibustered to death by states that enjoy disproportionate voting power. And Nixon won the popular vote.
#us politics#electoral college#and yes it does have to do with slavery#because most of the states that wanted it had less people who could actually vote but wanted the same amount of power#so they wouldn't be 'bullied' by northern states who had smaller populations but more voters#nowadays it's shifted to states with genuinely low populations wanting their say

You may not like America but its not our fault that we are God's new chosen people and you live in some backward communist country where there aren't any guns or Bibles. Freedom!
>Country where there aren't any Bibles You are aware I'm from Ireland, right?
#Like I was saying to my friend the other day#Ireland (Especially Northern Ireland) has that specific brand of Christian that wouldn't seem out of place in a deeply conservative#And religious part of the US Deep South

I've previously joked about Fan Xian's daddy issues wrt the emperor, but on a rewatch, they surprisingly seem to surface for the first time in s2 episode 6. Or at least, that's the best way I can explain Fan Xian's approach to accusing the Second Prince of treason at family brunch.
I mean, it goes without saying that he wanted to reveal the Second Prince's crimes and bring him to justice. That's a given. But frankly, there were better ways to do that if that was the only thing on his mind. No, imo his other goal here was to test the emperor—the emperor's feelings about justice, and also about Fan Xian himself. He wanted to get a read on his importance to the emperor after finding out that he was secretly one of the emperor's kids.
The emperor has blown hot and cold to Fan Xian over time! He's given him a lot of leeway and indulgence, but on the other hand also sent him to Northern Qi and put him in danger, and also got properly furious at the whole fake death act. It's hard to figure him out. Fan Xian has reason to believe the emperor might value him; even right before the confrontation, the emperor summons him to family brunch with the princes (point 1 in the 'favour' column) and fakes his punishment for deceiving the ruler (point 2 in the 'favour' column). But ultimately Fan Xian doesn't know whom to trust at the moment, and he wants to see where the emperor stands on everything. And how Fan Xian measures up against the real princes in his estimation.
So he takes a gamble. And loses.
"Who do you think you are?" the emperor thunders at him, after he accuses the Second Prince.
And Fan Xian's mouth twists, like: also your kid, actually. But apparently my words don't weigh anything with you when an actual prince is here.
And he says as much to Chen Pingping later, while angrily cleaning the monument with his mother's words: "The emperor protected his own son. It's only natural." With the heavy implication of—he's chosen the son he wants to protect, and that's not me. And he's mad about everything that's happening—that the emperor chooses to shield the Second Prince even when he's committing crimes—but also a little about the fact that the emperor sided with the Second Prince over him.
(And then Chen Pingping says that the emperor didn't actually take Fan Xian's bureau position away, and does want him to investigate the Second Prince after all. And in so doing, he gets Fan Xian to calm down. Much of Fan Xian's new equilibrium is, of course, down to how he now sees a way to fight against the Second Prince! But he does stand up a little straighter once he realises the emperor wasn't actually against him that whole time. And imo that means something.)
#we're just not used to this emotional vulnerability from fan xian and so it's a look on him that's hard to recognise#he doesn't normally have issues about other people like that. he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him normally#but the parentage reveal did hit him hard in northern qi. he’s been very chill about all family things but he’s not made of stone either.#though. girl. this is a bad dad to have issues about. probably the worst dad you could've chosen. and you have OPTIONS#joy of life spoilers#joy of life#joy of life 2#(though just to be clear--i don't mean to say that fan xian likes the emperor or generally seeks his approval. it's not about that really#but there are some complex bitter feelings that surface from time to time towards the emperor specifically. and none of the other dads)

God the absolute urge I have to make Owen use Cockney rhyming slang... ESPECIALLY as the DMA. Imagine, the DMA is talking about how many people he's killed and he just throws in "brown bread" and Von Nazi is just like ???????? with waffle fries?????
#is this coherent#yeah this is just me trying to cope with not being able to make Owen use northern slang#what i would give to hear that man say the word owt...#anyway if we're going with the cockney rhyming slang thing that means The Staircase Scene is called The Apple And Pear-case Scene. which.#its not very dramatic...#this is such a self indulgent linguistics post im sorry#spies are forever#saf#owen carvour#agent owen carvour#tin can bros#tin can brothers#tcb

ROTZBACKE! HAKENZAHN! OI! OI! OI!
#I know some people will disagree with me here and that is totally okay :#I grew up watching httyd and I absolutely prefer the german version over the og (which doesn't happen often)#I think it is so undeniably better in my opinion because it 1) is what I am used to#and 2) because I'm a northern german and the way they talk seems so close to home its just nice-#um's auf gut deutsch zu sagen: die hamburgern so schön /lh#of course in my family we mostly speak like that for emphasis or whatever but I JUST AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE IT SO MUCH#I can speak along with the movie in its entirety in german I just-only piece of media that had more of an impact on my life than Undertale#I will say I am sadly not a third movie enjoyer. I'm sorry I just didn't like it very much but I respect the people who do#I also have only watched it once while I've watched rtte like... idk 3 times?#also finally getting to the drawing- I LOVE SNOTLOUT AND HOOKFANG SO MUCCH#also Rotzbacke's Synchronsprecher is just so damn funny-#oh btw Planzin and Tectco watched me go through the five stages of grief when I realized the reason why angel dust sounded so familiar#in the german dub was because the voice actor is the same guy who voice acts fishlegs in german#pitske’s art#pitskederdoenerhaendler#so much shit going down guys I need to draw the entire dragon rider crew#httyd fanart#httyd#snotlout#snotlout jorgenson#hookfang#how to train your dragon

Nothing is more embarrassing to me than liberals who want to write off the entire south because it votes red. Sorry, but if you think the entire south is irredeemable and that none of the vast swathes of minorities in red states matter. That's embarrassing. Moving back to Florida has really radicalized me for empathy towards the marginalized people in southern states. We're here, and our lives matter, even if they don't matter to you.
#i was so angry the other day because there was dumb discourse about how some northern liberals think chappel roan shouldn't have#shows in red states#and someone said that the whole state of texas is irredeemable and needs to be cut out from the IS#*US#texas is a state with so many minorities but they don't matter to you at all. it's hopelessly gerrymandered but that doesn't matter.#the lives of southern people (especially southern minorities) just don't matter to these people#they paint us with a broad brush and say we're just as bad as our oppressors#it's small minded and hypocritical#oscar talks to himself

northern bayberry.
if you’ve ever come across a natural bayberry candle, this is where they come from! the berries are coated in a thick layer of sweet-scented, grayish wax.
you need a very large amount of berries to render a useable amount of wax, and because the wax is so brittle on its own it’s often mixed with soy or beeswax. With its emollient and astringent properties (not to mention the amazing balsam smell!) it’s also great in soaps and other skincare products.
#nature#bayberry#morella pensylvanica#us native plants#northern bayberry#wildcraft#i made precisely two bayberry candles before saying fuck this forever#it’s so so messy for so little wax#BUT i can say that i tried it!

finally caught up a wee bit with dr who, i skipped the babies one cos it sounded terrible, went with the music episode.
good things: i like the doctor and the baddy was fun and clarose (i forgot her name twice now) is fine. also a very good episode for reaction images:
less good: i think i made a few of those faces myself while watching. what i assume was foreshadowing was pretty bad (had someone decided "one word repeated every episode" wasn't enough?). i am not sure why the doctor knew exactly what was happening, i don't mind that as an occasional plot device (they do know pretty much everything, after all) but it felt over done in this. why was there a music battle? why was there a song? WHY IS MURRAY GOLD BACK, HAD WE NOT AT LAST BANISHED HIM?
#dw#negativity though D:#mostly#BUT i like the main actors and they're the only people in every episode so at least it's the good way round there right?#it took me this long because i overall don't like RTD's style of Who and this contains a lot of the things i don't enjoy about it :'(#there were moments... there were moments it felt like ten'n'rose had returned from their hellish clique-dimension (season two) to haunt me.#good fucking god i never want to go back there again.#but you know what? at least RTD let this Scottish Doctor use his own accent instead of saying it would be “a tour of the regions” if he did#so that's nice :)#i think Clarose might be northern unless i just transplanted that onto her from one of her mothers (clara and rose had a baby????)#oh wow her eyes go so big! like comically fucking huge! i love it! at least for now!#fifteenth doctor#OH YEAH AND ABOUT THE NUMBERING#rtd critical#(seems like a useful tag for me lol)#at least the doctor kissed the tardis though :) that's what really matters isn't it? the otp. their love. etc.#LOOK HE IS WEARING HER COLOUR 💙💙

Reading the Raven Cycle as someone who grew up in Northern Virginia is soooo crazy bc whenever they mention Ganesy living near DC I'm like omg that's my home? They mentioned picking up Professor Mallory at the airport and I was over here twirling my hair like "oooh I wonder if he's at Dulles or Reagan national"
#any NOVA girlies out there can I get an ayooooo#when they were talking about fourth of July and they were like “fireworks that launch above a certain height are illegal here”#I was like YEAH!!! THEY ARE!!! <3#when gansey and henry drove down 66 i was like ooh that's rough for u because everyone always tells me to avoid it (bad traffic)#being in northern VA is just different energy truly everyone always says they're from NOVA to make it clear they're not from the south#which is like nuanced.........the intent is to be like hey please understand my politics are not conservative but the affect is us vs them#which i think is an issue the book explored well#it also captured how nobody in virginia claims west virginia when mallory referred to it as “the other virginia”#they are not of us........ we are the real virginia......... this is what unites northern and southern virginia. We assert dominance 2gethe#west virginia is actually lovely btw i jest#there are windmills there#trc#the raven cycle

Yknow one of the first signs that Martin's a badass is that he actually felt safe on the northern line after meeting prentiss... For those of you who haven't been subjected to its horrors, here's a few things you should know:
-it is fucking LOUD. Tube trains are loud, but northern line is the loudest. Like, permanent ear damage loud if you travel on it regularly.
-it shakes you about a LOT! Okay all the underground trains do, but on the northern line its more random and jarring.
-it is CONFUSING. There's several different branches/routes that take you to entirely different places, and if you find yourself on the wrong one you have to change trains at Camden Town! A notoriously busy station!
-in reputation, it's in competition for the worst line on the underground! Its main rivals are the central line and bakerloo line, but a large percentage of Londoners (myself included) consider it the worst one.
So in essence, Martin, pursued by worms, found comfort in a place that activates my fight or flight response on the best of days! That half an hour of being deafened and shaken about in a tiny tube underground calmed him down, and that's absolutely tougher than surviving an apocalypse.
#This post was inspired by me taking the northern line today and being absolutely INCAPABLE of thinking of anything but Martin!!!!#I spend every journey on it looking at archway and then Stockwell <3 living in London and being into tma is a deadly combo#Also realistically the northern line isn't t h a t bad#But it's also very not good#Oh and nobody say 'but he clearly takes it often he'd be used to it'... One of my friends takes it every day and its fresh hell every time!#tma#the magnus archives#the magnus institute#Martin Blackwood#Jonathan Sims#Jane Prentiss#tma the corruption

this is so entirely random but one thing i thing i wonder abt every once in a while is if there are any indigenous american emigrants like ones that have left the americas entirely. like indigenous americans in the uk or whatever. i dont even know of any hispanic mestizo british people…. i mean statistically im sure there has to be at least some of them right. however small the number. but ive like never seen or heard from them if they do exist… so i always wonder what that must be like. like how comparible is that to cultural diaspora in america. how much of your cultural identity do you keep with a community that small? and like the way that the majority of countries have at least some amount of black & east+south+west asian immigrants for the people to have exposure to even if not everywhere is as culturally diverse as america. but if youre british have you met all of those but just never met an indigenous american. or like any latin american. thats crazy to me
#i do know there are latinos in east asia japan esp but i feel like ive never seen them in europe#well besides like rich latina american influencer girls that move to italy and only speak english. thats not what i mean#i mean like actual communities and families earnestly emigrating and establishing themselves or whatever..#like i know theres some indigenous groups from other continents in the us. mostly from northern africa se asia and the pacific islands#but i guess in fairness i cant say i know of any aboriginal australians in america…#idk this mostly means nothing i have no point its just a shower thought i have sometimes#also i know theres a lot of black carribean immigrants in the uk but those are mostly from former british colonies right?
