Asher: You know I was kidding when I said you had to carry everything. I can help. Atlas: It’s okay, I got it. Asher: Alright, I’m not gonna fight ya for it, but if you change your mind, let me know. Atlas: I will. Aren’t you bringing your sketchbook? Asher: Nah. I need a break.

Asher: There’s an awful lot of warnings on this sign. Atlas: There’s a lot to be wary of out here, but we have everything we need, and then some. We’ll be fine. Asher: If you say so. I am mildly concerned that it warns of various things that can poison you, but you if you get poisoned, you have a find a local with an antidote. Why wouldn’t we just go to the hospital Atlas: It really says that? Asher: Yes! Atlas: Well, the people who work at the hospital are local, so I’m sure they could still help us. But, just to be on the safe side, try not to get poisoned. Asher: No promises.

Asher: So, what’s the deal with those skeletons, or guards, or whatever, that we saw at the museum yesterday? Did you really have a dream about them? Atlas: I think so. Or something like them at least. All I remember is three skeletons, and the eyes of the one in the middle were glowing red. Asher: You don’t remember anything else? Atlas: [shakes head] I didn’t even remember that much until yesterday.

Asher: What do you think Sam meant by that curse? That they turn your greatest wish into your nightmare? Atlas: I don’t know. Honestly, I think he makes up half the stuff he says on those tours just for fun. Asher: [laughs] Probably. I would. Gotta keep the days interesting somehow. Atlas: Exactly.

Asher: It does make me curious though. What would your greatest wish be? Atlas: I don’t know. I want lots of things. I want to finish this game, and I want it to do well. I want our company to be successful so that we never have to work for anyone but ourselves ever again. Asher: We still need a name for it, by the way. We can’t register without a name. Atlas: I know. We’ll think of something. We have time.

Asher: Okay, but would you really want those things to happen just by wishing for them? Atlas: No, I wouldn’t. The best part is building it together. Asher: So then, let’s say a genie pops up and gives you one wish, what would it be? Atlas: I thought genies were supposed to give you three wishes. Asher: Well, this one’s a dick, so you only get one. Atlas: [laughs] Right, okay.

Asher: Well? Atlas: If I tell you what it is, you’ll just tell me I shouldn’t wish for it. Asher: [sighs] That’s really what you would use your wish for?

Atlas: Yes. I’m sorry, but I would. My biggest regret is all the time I wasted when we first met, all the unnecessary pain I caused. And, I get it, everything worked out in the end, and I’m grateful for that. But, given the opportunity, I would one hundred percent go back and do it all over again.

Asher: You’re infuriating sometimes, you know that? Atlas: Yes.

Asher: There’s got to be better… um, Atlas, what’s that sound? Atlas: It’s the reason we came out here, the place I wanted us to see. Don’t worry, the water is far enough away, but how are you with heights? Asher: Usually fine. How high are we talking? Atlas: Just don’t look down.

Asher: Holy shit. This is amazing. Atlas: Right? It’s even better than I expected. Asher: Is that one of the temples? Atlas: It must be. What’s left of it anyway.

Atlas: So, what about you? What’s your greatest wish? Asher: Oh, that’s easy. My only wish is to be with you forever. No matter what happens in life, as long as I’m with you, I’m happy.

his mum is like a plant mum and swears by talking to her plants because it helps them grow, and she goes out for "wild flower walks" where she picks specific flowers based on a bouquet she wants to make and then use in tea or her cooking/baking, and she collects mugs and uses them for everything she can (plant pots, paint pots, for her jewellery, storing medicine, "temporary" piggy bank that is never temporary, some open-concept tool box that holds woodworking tools), maybe she's a painter, or a carver, or a knitter - that depends on whatever medium catches her attention first and then becomes her craft hobby for the next half-year, she's very sporadic with her current fixations

and his dad probably collects stuff like seashells or postcards or maybe something more bizarre like bird art in state national park brochures, and they're displayed EVERYWHERE, or clocks and watches and has a "tinkering station" in their shed where he pulls up those magnifying glasses that jewellers use to take apart old clocks and makes animal art from it (and they're all of mrs. talbot's favourite animals)

they're very eclectic magpie-type people who collect trinkets and little things that remind them of each other, or of asher and madelyn and these little things are scattered all over the house, and their walls are FULL of paintings and prints and photographs of all styles and mediums and of themselves and the people/animals they love, put in all sorts of frames (nothing is taped up raw, if it will be hung up it WILL be in a frame - a thrifted or handmade (by asher's mum) one)

and there's always holiday or seasonal decorations up SOMEWHERE, could be a small string of Christmas lights or fake jack-o-lanterns in the hallway or going up the stairs, an easter basket with fake painted eggs in the living room, dried fruits and leaves in a decorative bowl in the kitchen... you'll find practically every major and some cultural holiday decor in their house

i feel like these traits were something asher and maddie were both embarrassed about as kids/preteens, wishing their parents could be "normal" for once whenever their friends would come over and they'd hear people in their schools say that their parents were kooky, but then grew to love their quirky parents who let them be whoever they wanted and encouraged them to indulge in their hobbies and interests so passionately and without a single care in the world about what others think... they're so supportive and open and want their children to be unapologetically themselves

so you KNOW asher and his mum bond over and watch star trek together, or he would play video games with his whole family growing up (the just dance competitions were intense I fear), and he and his dad would go hunting for whatever his dad was collecting and they'd make games out of it like judging stuff as if they're art critics

hihihi so i nominated myself for Samuel Collin’s #1 fan and this is my attempt at convincing you why i should win. you might wanna sit down for this one <3

1. Sam’s playlist is how i discovered the Redacted Audio community bc he was the first character I ever listened to

2. he’s southern and I have spent half of my life being in the south so him and i are basically soul tied

3. I knew Sam was the Duke of the Solaire Clan WAY before it was revealed because i had a dream about it

4. i also had a hunch his eyes were brown pre-turning. i’m just that good.

5. Even after listening to other RA characters like Milo, Vincent, David (some of my other fav characters when i first started listening to the channel) etc, I was still drawn to Sam (because his character is written so well)

- I honestly love how we still don’t know everything about Sam’s life pre-turning in detail besides his relationship with his grandma. like he’s so mysterious

- he was originally a flawed character (when he was featured in Fredericks storyline) and that’s honestly what drew me to him more

6. he knows what the omegaverse and uses his knowledge to tease the pack, which is something i would 100% do (were like the same person)

7. Shaw Pack Hcs Part 4 (i think?) (Ft. Sam)

These are 3 pages long on Google Docs wow um

- Tank has smoked once, but didn’t exactly get into it.

- Asher and Christian put things they KNOW Milo will need on the top shelf of whatever house they’re in.

- Baaabe has freckles. Whether they're faint, or there’s tons of them, it doesn’t matter. They HAVE freckles.

- Angel may not be able to cook, but for some reason they can really fucking good. Cake, cookies, macaroons, brownies, lava cake, hell, Creme Brulee. They just find baking and cleaning everything up tedious, so they don’t do it often.

- As kids, whenever Kelsey came over with her mom to visit Arden and Christian, Arden and Kelsey would do anything and everything to scare the shit out of Christian.

- The only game Sam and Tank can play on equal grounds with no advantages towards each other is Just Dance 2018.

- Ansel and Bailey work on their upper arm strength more

- David doesn’t shave often, but his face somehow remains slightly shaven? Which is weird because he grows facial hair like crazy.

- David sleeps like a fucking corpse, that man does NOT move.

- Angel likes to shave David’s face when he’s asleep and keeps the hair in a jar under the bed in a box.

- Asher eats Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese.

- Tank LOVES frosting on cake and cupcakes. They lick the frosting off of those mini-cupcakes and eat the frosting first off normal cake.

- Angel used to believe in Herobrine, but instead of being scared or not playing the game until he was “removed”, they’d actively seek him out.

- Sweetheart’s impulsive thoughts have once led them to go tangible while in between a wall. It was excruciatingly painful and they don’t know how they didn’t get split in half.

- Milo would sharpen his teeth if he could.

- Ansel eats Crumbl Cookies, much to Christian’s dismay (he believes they’re undercooked).

- Asher and Baaabe don’t get out of each other’s arms until both of them are awake. If one wakes up first, they just lay there until the other wakes up.

- Baaabe didn’t go into elevators for a week after they met Asher. Not because they didn’t want to see him again, but because they were deathly afraid of being stuck again.

- When he was a kid, Marie would aggressively pinch Milo’s cheek whenever he did something bad.

- Baaabe took it surprisingly well when Asher first admitted  to being a werewolf. Not because they were shocked or in fear, but because it explained a LOT of weird shit he would do.

- Once, when they were a kid, Tank got into a frosting container their mom used to ice cakes she’d make, and ate all the frosting out of it. They would’ve been punished if they didn’t vomit an hour afterward, since it was “punishment enough” in their father’s words

- Madelyn and all of the older pack kids (only girls) would have sleepovers almost all the time. Kelsey, Bailey, and Arden were invited, but not so often since they were younger.

- Sweetheart likes to buy square pillows so it can support their neck better.

- Asher, David, Milo, and Christian would try to sneak in or see what the girls were talking about, much to Madelyn’s dismay.

- David has a vase full of honeysuckles in his bedroom.

- Sweetheart can NOT hopscotch. They’ve tried and they keep tripping by the time they reach 6.

- Angel has once laughed so hard they passed out.

- Bailey likes to blow bubblegum, but it’s hard to pop them. Meaning if they grow too big she has to use her fingers to pop them, but then sometimes it gets stuck to her hands.

- Brooke has seen Bailey get tangled up in gum during a pack meeting, and had to go over and help her, but then he started getting stuck in the gum, until Amanda saw him.

- Long story short half the pack got stuck in 5 pieces of gum until David had to use scissors to cut them out. That night he prayed for a normal pack.

- Sweetheart was once compared to Sherlock Holmes. That’s the best compliment they believe they’ve ever been given.

- Baaabe always has a stupid and goofy smile whenever Asher walks into the room. 

- As a kid, Milo was often left out of fun activities with the other kids. Bailey was the only one that stuck around him when they forgot to invite him.

- I.E: Brooke forgot to invite him to his 10th birthday party, and when Bailey found out, she and her parents took him to Six Flags.

- Other than the literal stealth in the pack, Brooke is the most stealthy member of the Shaw Pack. He can stop breathing for up to 5 minutes and cloak his aura enough for any normal empowered person to not sense or notice him.

- Tank has put mentos in coke and shoved the bottle in their mouth, Milo had to snatch the bottle from their hands after soda started spraying from their nose. Asher gave them 20 bucks to do it.

- David would stay up until 2am studying for ANY test they were given back in high school.

- Asher tried getting a tattoo in high school and told David, but David said if he ever finds a tattoo on him, he’d tell Asher’s parents immediately.

- Arden is the reason unempowered people in Dahlia believe wolves howl during a full moon. She makes sure that during ALL full moons, she’s at the highest peak possible in the town, shifted and howling as loud as she can. Only Christian knows she’s the one doing it.

- Tank has forgotten to put water in a cup of noodles once before microwaving it.

- Sweetheart has scared Baaabe before and this led to Baaabe cursing them out in a different language.

- Angel had braces from elementary school to high school, and keep unknowingly licking their teeth.

- David is NOT flexible, that man is as stiff as a floorboard.

- When Tank and their family first joined the pack, Tank was pissy and distant because they missed their old pack with their old friends.

-Milo has said “I’m walking ‘ere!” once, that’s the only reason Asher and Christian say it whenever he’s around.

- Bailey eats waffles with her hands.

- Kelsey and David fold their pizzas.

- Arden used a fork and knife to eat hers once to piss everyone off.

- Asher, David, Christian, Arden, Amanda, Brooke, Miguel, and Bailey have done the cliche “break a window with a baseball” in Amanda’s backyard once. Bailey broke it and was going to come clean, but Christian panicked and blamed it on Kelsey, who wasn’t there. He then tried to backtrack and blame it on Milo, who was in the corner playing with dandelions because they forgot to ask him to play. Bailey got away with it because Amanda’s mom believed it was him due to his lying, and no one backed him up.

- Asher tries to laugh more “cutely” or “manly” but whenever Baaabe says a joke he can’t help but laugh genuinely.

- When David was scolding Tank in “Confronted but your Pack Alpha”, Tank had a scowl on and kept looking at the ground. They didn’t make eye contact until the end.

- Sweetheart can throw it back

- David can be DEATHLY silent when he wants to be. This is why Sam didn’t hear David from behind him during the pack Solstice, despite his advanced hearing.

- Whenever the Sunbound Solstice comes around, and none of the wolves feel good or energized enough to do anything, the mates do everything in their power to pamper and take care of them until they feel better. The only exceptions are Tank, Sam, Milo, and Sweetheart since they’re all Moonbound. In this case, Baaabe and Angel wait until David and Asher fall asleep to help them out.

What I personally think the redacted boys and listeners favorite monster flavor would be.

The boi’s first^^

David: either the regular or the Java monster, I feel like he wouldn’t drink them avidly but he’d drink them if he needed to get something done if he didn’t have enough energy.

Asher: Green or the Fruit juice one. He likes the combo of sweet and sour so usually he’ll pick depending on the mood lol.

Milo: I don’t think they sell them anymore- but monster had a tea brand for a little bit and they weren’t half bad to me personally, so I think he’d like the green tea monster a lot^^ and he definitely was upset when they stopped selling them, so now he just drinks any of the coffee ones.

Sam: Darlin’ had to get him to try one, and it was the white one so once every blue moon he’ll get the white one and drink it.

Vincent: either the Strawberry lemonade one or gold. I am firm on them, and he had a short phase in drinking monster for a little while.

Porter: Gold. No explanation needed.

Gavin: Rosa, he likes it because 1. It’s fucking pink 2. It’s fizzy, I have a personal headcannon that Gavin and Caelum love any carbonated drink because they like the fizz lol.

Damien: he doesn’t drink them. He drinks redbull.

Huxley: the mango one^^ you can never go wrong with a classic, and he sometimes drinks them before going to the gym.

Lasko: Orange, it taste like starbursts to him and he’ll drink it like his life depends on it.

Angel: Any of the coffee ones, they are a life line for them. When working they always have one on hand, when they are gaming, they always have one on hand, when they are doing chores- THEY ALWAYS HAVE ONE ON HAND.

Baabe: Any of the rehab flavors, or just the regular one, they don’t really drink them unless they need to key in on something important.

Sweetheart: Gold, because it fits their aesthetic✨✨

Darlin: they will drink any flavor as long as it gets the job done.

Lovely: The purple one. They also would make battery acid 100%.

Treasure: The Aussie Lemonade, I don’t know why.

"After a Long Day" Headcanons

I'm bored, sick, and thinking about a brief conversation that me and @penncilkid had the other night, so here's a list of different redacted bois coming home after a long day.

I'm not gonna do all the redacted bois, but here are the ones that are in this post: Milo, Asher, David, and Guy

Milo is always about physical contact. He usually uses this tactic for when Sweetheart is working too hard, but he loves being able to hold his mate close at any moment. When he's had a hard shift, he wouldn't even say anything to Sweetheart before dragging them to the couch and trapping them there. This always amuses Sweetheart. They would spend this time talking at to Milo, finding any way to kiss any part of him. There would be nothing going on, just Sweetheart's soft voice, their hands and lips against his skin, and the love that he feels for them.

Asher seeks out comfort foods when he gets home from a long day. Baabe would help prepare said food (most of it was junk, or things that he would make with his family, but it didn't matter to Baabe what it was as long as it helped.) After the things were made, they would build a nest in the living room and settle in it to play games for hours on end. They would eat, laugh, and make stupid bets while playing games just for the fun of it.

David is a tough guy, and he usually won't admit when he's tired after a long day. However, when he gets home and is just a little bit more clingy than usual, Angel usually catches on. This is where they would start to do damage control, complaining about how tired they were, and how much their coworkers got on their nerves, and "will you cuddle with me?"s until David 'gives in' because he'd do anything for his Angel. This was the first part of their plan. Angel would then get David to lie down in their lap so they'd be able to play with his hair. David would protest half-heartedly, but he never won the fight. Angel moved on to the third part of the plan, putting on a series of YouTube videos that they watched regularly and turned the volume down so it was just background noise. They would run their fingers through his hair, and David would slowly relax and close his eyes. Sometimes he'd fall asleep like that. Angel never did tease him for when he was like this, but they did take pride in the fact that he could help them relax.

Guy would usually be the opposite of how he normally acts, which is Honey's first clue to how his day went. When he's had a long day, it's usually because he had a lot of deliveries/customers and was just human'd out for the day. Honey would ask him point-blank if he wanted to have their presence or not. If he said no, Honey would give him a kiss before sending him to bed, telling him they were there if they needed him. They would get made fun of for being so soft, but he still listened. If he did want them to stick around, the two of them would end up on the couch tangled together watching one of their shows. Honey would be running their hands along his body in a soothing manner, sometimes running their fingers into his hair, but there would be no talking. There would be no expectation of conversation, or jokes, or anything like that. Guy appreciated it more than anything being able to just exist like that.

Sam & Darlin ( Headcanon edition )

- Darlin always sits on the kitchen counter whenever Sam cooks so they can be around him

- When Sam first met Milo, he was confused by his accent ( Sam doesn't handle accents well, hell, he doesn't even like his own accent )

- Darlin drags Sam to carnivals, arcade, Build-A-Bear, and other places like that, because Quinn always denied Darlin when they asked to go to them

- Whenever Sam found Darlin crying after or during the inversion, he'd let Darlin cry on his shoulder or just let them punch him in the gut as hard as they want until they calmed down ( He didn't care about the pain )

- Darlin hates cooking but is a sucker for baking and decorating cakes

- Sam doesn't like spicy or sour foods while Darlin loves spicy and sour foods

- When Asher and Milo met Sam, they were confused by his teeth when he talked to Darlin, but we're also cautious because of what Quinn did.

- Sam finds Darlin sleeping in random places. On the couch? Yep, they've slept there, bedroom floor? Their personal favorite, Washing machine? it hurt their back a bit but they slept

- Sam doesn't understand half the shit Asher and Darlin say when they rant about video games, it's the one thing he can't keep up with

- when Sam met David, he wasn't expecting for David to be shorter than him.

- Darlin's fur when they shift is the softest yet most course fur out of the whole pack

- Darlin is barely shorter than Sam

- Sam's teeth are rather dull compared to other vamps

Curious to hear what your stance on veilguard is. Heard mixed things but given its modern bioware I half expected it.

Alright, given I just finished my first playthrough:

It's fine enough. I'll take you through my likes and dislikes under the cut, but here's the TL;DR.

Veilguard is a fun action game that I enjoyed playing. I do have significant problems with roleplay, story, character interaction, pacing, and exploration, but for what Veilguard is, I enjoyed it. I can't in good conscience call it a fantastic game or claim Bioware is "back" or whatever, but I enjoyed myself with it, and I had a lot of fun. I'd say the rating would be between fine and good. I'll call it a 6/10.

So, a more in depth review: We'll start with what I liked, then go over my critiques from minor to major. Honest critique, all my opinion. Spoiler warning for the whole game below.

If you disagree with my thoughts, that's fine! I'm glad you found something to like about what I didn't, and you're valid if you didn't like what I did. Just giving my opinion.

So. I really liked the combat! I played a mage and I found each combat really fun and engaging - I kept testing out the terrain and developing my skills to focus on the staff - I basically never used orb and dagger because I kept misjudging the reach. So i loved getting to shoot tons of magic missiles and I used the bonuses that got me extra projectiles. The terrain was great for combat because I always felt like I had options, so even when combat would start to get repetitive, the different tactics I could use really saved the day. I will say the enemies seemed particularly overtuned to attacking me over my allies, but I'll forgive that as companions seem mostly there to do detonations anyway, and they don't seem to be able to fall in battle. I like that Rook's abilities have enough variety that even when I pulled a two-mage party (me/Emmrich/Davrin) I still had options for detonations.

I really liked the voice acting. Davrin's actor seemed overly stilted at first, his voice in too deep a register that felt forced and unnatural, but he really hit his stride, especially in softer moments. Bellara's actor was INCREDIBLE, and Neve's had just the right amount of emotion to portray a stoic character with such subtlety. Asher and Teia were standouts for me for side characters. Will point out that the voicing clearly got done during the pandemic because at several points the characters sound really nasally and congested. Luckily for me it happened all in a cluster so I could headcanon there was a nasty cold going around the Lighthouse.

I did like the characters. Neve was far and away my favorite, for her humor, her standout questline, acting, and the friendship between her and my Rook - it felt the most fleshed out and well-written of them all. Davrin and Emmrich I liked a lot too. Emmrich is fun and unique. Davrin I really loved, but I hated that his arc was completely about Assan and the griffons, even his epilogue slide. I know pretty much what all the companions are gonna be up to, and what the griffons will do - no frickin clue about Davrin. I didn't get very much Lucanis because I saved Minrathous, but he was great in banter and I loved his and Neve's romance. Bellara's voice acting was wonderful, but I didn't connect with her as much because I felt she got hit with the Joss Whedon beam (character most likely to say "Well, that happened" or "he's right behind me, isn't he?"). Great acting, not so great writing, and while Taash was okay, their personality wasn't one I really click with, and by the third time their dialogue was "noncomittal grunt" I had checked out. I really hate their questline decision of "Rivain or Qunari heritage," especially as a multicultural person myself. It's just such a nonbinary issue, ironically enough. I never had an attachment to Harding, and Veilguard didn't really do anything to make me care about her, so more on that later. Also, I didn't feel like her questline decision DID anything. I chose anger, and she wasn't really more angry or outspoken or anything.

Now, onto the criticism.

The sound design wasn't it for me. The music is pretty forgettable - I barely even remember the main theme, even though it got played three times at the end. I liked the Nevarran area music because it really felt cool and gothic and unique. I hated the Rivain area battle music because I think I heard like, electric guitars? The sound effects felt more sci-fi than fantasy to me. I kept feeling like it read more "blaster pew pews" than "magic blasts".

I didn't really enjoy exploration. It got kinda tedious after awhile, especially since I started to get upgrades for items I never used or needed and couldn't get rid of. There weren't a whole lot of great puzzles in the game. The only one I can think of is the Sharksmouth puzzle with the four Warden statues. Other than that, it's a tedious scavenger hunt, and generally comes down to finding the power source like, two feet away from the switch.

The story has a very slow start. Up until the Minrathous/Treviso choice, the game feels kinda aimless and rough, but after it, it starts to focus up a little more and feel more like you have a goal in mind and stakes for it. That said, it feels like Minrathous v. Treviso is the only choice in the game that has actual and meaningful consequences in the world. The choices besides that were disappointing. I never really felt like I was making very much of a difference in the story. Dialogue choices never felt like much of anything, to be honest, and I never really felt my relationships with the companions evolving, especially because I couldn't discuss much with them whenever I was at the Lighthouse and they didn't have a quest for me. Banter was all well and good, but when it came down to it, it disincentivized exploring the Lighthouse because I knew I wouldn't have any conversations waiting for me.

Minrathous v Treviso being the game's only big choice felt so disappointing because it was that moment, with a whole city being Blighted that I felt "here's where it gets going! My actions having major consequences!" I wish it had kept that momentum going. In theory, the endgame should have been the coolest thing - it was clearly a redux of the ME2 suicide mission, where you have to show you were paying attention the whole time, picking the right person for the job, with lives on the line... except the game was so handholdy about it. "THIS MISSION WILL WORK BEST WITH A SKILLED ASSASSIN." Yeah, no shit. And the way the narrative comes to a grinding halt more than once to remind the player in no uncertain terms to do the companion quests felt really poorly done.

The game's most major misstep, for me, was the decision to tie companion relationship to their level. By doing so, it made it impossible to have any other relationship with each companion because the game doesn't want them to be under/over leveled. You can't be really friendly because the game can't have overleveled companions. You can't be unfriendly because the game can't have underleveled companions. The romance lines were well-written, but the companions kinda felt like they were always wherever they needed to be at for the story - the lack of conversations means you don't have often to flirt or build up a sense of the characters liking each other. Davrin and Neve are the most well-written here because Davrin's flirt lines are great, but he's also written well as a friend. You can clearly see the relationship evolving. Neve too, she always felt like she was warming up to my Rook every time. But Emmrich, I don't really see what he likes my Rook for other than because I decided to initiate the romance. And I really liked Emmrich!

But the worst part of the game was all the nods they tried to put to Inquisition (because any nods to DAO or DA2 were few and far between). I barely cared about Harding in Inquisition and now she's acting like she was in the Inner Circle. And the idea that only three choices from Inquisition matter was awful. I think it was absolutely an awful move to make your epic closer/sendoff to your story a soft reboot. Not saying that they had to make Inky the protagonist or anything, but to have next to no choices matter and then nuke the South offscreen felt so disrespectful to the whole story. Also it feels like there's no difference for whether your Inquisitor who didn't romance Solas vows to stop him or save him.

As an action game with some choice and great companions, it was pretty good. But as a Bioware RPG and the conclusion to three other games where choices mattered - especially interwoven choices from previous games, I'd call it highly disappointing.

Still, I found lots to like about the game. Its combat is fun and engaging, its characters are easy to love, and it looks fantastic. I wouldn't call it a bad game by any stretch. But it does have flaws, and those flaws can be dealbreakers for fans of the series and I completely understand that. It was a disappointment for what I was hoping for, even if I liked it in general. I don't know if I'll be back for the next game when/if it comes out. If you can enjoy it for what it is, Veilguard can be a great experience. But, as always, the only way to truly determine is to find out for yourself.

Time to yap about my eeveelution lore

this whole thing is based off of pokemon GO btw

Everyone started out as an eevee! obviously. At first there were only two. The first to evolve was also the eldest of the eevees, akito! He evolved into a sylveon. The second to evolve was the other, who evolved into a glaceon - these two were like older brothers to everyone else, and are practically inseparable. WILL throw hands (feelers? paws?) to protect each other. Also the glaceon is called Ace, they raced each other a lot. The third and fourth eevees were also brought in and taken care of, and so the older brother duo thing started. One evolved into an espeon. these two... basically ALWAYS got into trouble. Sneaking snacks around, breaking stuff with telekenisis, etc. Then a flareon was caught! So current situation, in order of being brought in: Sylveon (Akito), Glaceon (Ace), Espeon (Oliver), Eevee (Levi) and Flareon (Asher, nicknamed firefighter as a joke). Okay! So, because it took a lot of time and effort to take care of so many vees, the trainer only had time for some of the vees at nighttime. This eventually resulted in Levi (eevee) evolving into an umbreon! ...which lead to more espeon-umbreon tag-team telekenisis mayhem. Oftentimes Akito (sylveon) or Ace (glaceon) came to sort it out tho. (But they don't snitch! Just try to stop them and put all the stuff back. Once, Ace got stuck in the fridge and took a nap there after putting away some treats Levi snuck out at night. No one realised until next morning, and left everyone wondering how glaceon biology works. And what about Asher, you may ask? He is a certified good boi :3 very playful and often plays games with everyone else! As a result everyone loves him. And for good reason, he always means the best for everyone. Very pure stuff! After a lot more eevee hunting, another 3 were brought in. On the way back from a walk through a nearby park the second one evolved into a leafeon, which ended up becoming an inside joke as to how quickly he evolved. The other two eevees were more calculated about what they really wanted to be, and after a couple months of more eevee randomness, one evolved into a vaporeon! This was when the trainer decided to instead of taking only 2 or 3 of them on walks at a time, to bring all of them in one go. ...This was a mistake. Two other trainers mistook it for a pokemon battle request, Asher almost burned a couple hedges down by accident, the vaporeon (rainer. yes I used the pokemon go name even though he canonically used a water stone. I'm lazy okay I'm bad at names) snuck into someone's pool and turned into water (took half an hour to get him out. somehow didn't get fined.), Oliver caused all sorts of telekenetic chaos, (tried to lift multiple of the eeveelutions as a prank, he does this often. Except usually it's not more than one, or outside. He missed and accidentally terrorised multiple pokemon and children.)

After all that, it was decided to NEVER EVER EVER bring out all the eeveelutions at once unless it was absolutely necessary.

Anyway! You know the gist, more eevees were caught. So home situation: Akito (sylveon), Ace (glaceon), Oliver (espeon), Levi (umbreon), Asher (Flareon), Rainer (vaporeon), Linen (Leafeon) and Tunner (eevee). So all the eeveelutions and eevee, with the exception of Jolteon.

Season 1, Episode 1

Mainly Character introductions

LAYLA

At first glance, we see that Layla is very put together. You can tell that she takes pride in her appearance from the way her hair is done to the jewellery pieces she has on. She’s also very warm and welcoming showing that she is open to friendship. We get her justifying other people’s actions and trying to highlight the best in them. It is here were we get a glimpse into her trying to portray herself as perfect to some degree. Her first instinct is to run when Spencer reads into her loneliness which usually happens when someone feels they have shown a little too much of what they are hiding. She tries to downplay her wealth and deflect from talking about her house just like she did before but this time she laughs it off instead of running away. We also get introduced to her strained dynamic with Olivia. They barely acknowledge each other but Olivia seemingly has a lot to say about her [to Spencer]. Olivia introduces Layla to Spencer as ‘Beverly’s resident sweetheart’ then later tells him that she has a boyfriend while trying to convince him not to go to her party. There are undertones of a falling out between the two girls because Olivia is trying hard to paint Spencer a picture about Layla and who she is. It’s almost as if she sees Spencer’s interest in Layla and is trying to stop him from getting to know her. At the party, Layla says “maybe not all of us are as basic as you think” which stands out. From how Olivia has been talking about her, this statement shows that she is aware about how people perceive her - rich and pretty with no depth. We see her happy facade finally slip as she has dinner alone in her empty house. Despite the fact that it’s big and will put together, it’s cold and lonely. A parallel to how she’s always well dressed and put together when she is sad and lonely on the inside. She hides it so well that people don’t see it at first glance. She also deflects a lot which tells us she doesn’t really open up about this particular topic but why is that?

JORDAN

With Jordan, his first interactions are with his sister and Spencer. Immediately, there is some tension between the two siblings because he doesn’t even try to make conversation with her before walking away with Spencer [Liv confirms this in her talk with Spencer about going to rehab]. You can tell that he’s nice and he has a very confident aura to him not arrogant though. He introduces himself as team captain which is an early indication of how seriously he takes the role. We see more of this on the field when he tries to be the peace keeper between the players [mostly Asher and Spencer]. Like Layla, he tries to see the best in people because he immediately agrees to take Spencer under in wing upon Billy’s request even though he’s weary about him. You can tell that he has a lot of questions but he composes himself. This paired with his need to keep the peace on the field helps us conclude that he’s not big on confrontation. Overhearing the conversation Billy is having over the phone about no one on the team having half the potential Spencer had doesn’t help either. He’s already weary of Spencer and hearing how easy it is for Billy to discredit his role on the team and as a football player triggers him. This is the third incident that points towards trouble in the Baker home with the second being his inability to question his father. Jordan’s villain arc starts as he attempts to get rid of Spencer. The fact that he doesn’t like confrontation makes him vindictive and impulsive which is a horrible combination given how much disdain he’s holding in. He is choosing to take his anger out on Spencer to hurt his father since Billy has proven how important Spencer is to him. The way he confronts Billy on the football field emphasises how much anger has in him but he tries really hard to keep his cool. This only escalates when he hears Billy say “I’m proud of you son” to Spencer after their game. It’s very clear that he doesn’t want Spencer moving into their home but he pretends to be happy. How much pretending is he doing and how much more is he hiding?

JORDAYLA INCLINGS🤭

Jordan notices that Layla and Spencer are checking each other out and doesn’t even try to hide his disapproval as he walks away while shaking his head. He already has his doubts about his father’s intense concern about Spencer’s wellbeing and it doesn’t help that Layla is his best friend’s girlfriend.

I've seen one (1) Shenpai video of her playing Baldur's Gate 3, alongside creating a character with @notanegrill for his second play (first play didn't work out so well) and I am already in love with Astarion.

I'm an Astarion enjoyer and damn it not again with the white hair and pointy eared guys who can charm my shoes off in ten or less words. He sees us as food that should not be as attractive but he is a little babo shnookums and he is such a pathetic little thing that I can't help it. He can't say 'CAN I HAVE JUST A LITTLE TASTE' with those tired watery eyes and not expect me to cave in like a caprisun you sucked the air from.

Speaking of dreams we got a real handsome boy this time around and they're so adorable!! I think we named him Asher and he's a Bard, which V didn't expect would matter too much until he realized that being a Wizard was easier to study that alien technology/language while trying to save that other woman. Wow names will be so hard starting from now.

I didn't save any screenshots of his final looks but maybe V will be able to provide eventually. Until then, have some of our conversations during the 2 hour long character creation.

Tank/Quinn Butch 4 Butch by Rio Romeo (x) yeah this ship makes me go insane as is because i love angst and pain and torturing myself, and this song just kind of gets it man. kind of puts a perspective on all the abuse and pain and makes the obvious delusion, hurt and doubt sound normalized and romanticized, and so it’s easier to get a peak into the mechanics and warped mindsets of abusive relationships through it. yeah. just listen to it. going loco everytime i put this song on 🤪

Tank/Sam Sunlight by Hozier (x) sam said his darlin’ feels like sunlight on an easy day, but i think this song is mostly from tank’s pov. the overwhelming feel of the song that fills up your chest would be how tank saw it too, a stark contrast from what they know, as opposed to sam who paired sunlight with ‘easy’. “who would trade that hum of night for sunlight, sunlight, sunlight?” to “a soul that’s born in cold and rain knows sunlight, sunlight, sunlight” and the fact that it is so new to them that it feels bigger and grander and holier than they’d ever known. AHHH DO U SEE WHAT I MEAN. YEAH.

David/Angel BREAKFAST by half · alive (x) it just feels like an easy song, but it’s obvious from the lyrics that it’s still really daunting. david’s character arc has always been about learning to accept and ask for help. his main problem was not being a dick about it in the process, which stems from him finding vulnerability daunting, and angel kind of provides that kind of support with the dickyness just, on default. the “strength in the open, the broken and exposed, should I flee to the mountains?” bit. it hasn’t been easy for him to get used to that but he pulled through!!! and. yeah. also, breakfast is just something david’s plenty good at, and food is sorta his way of showing he cares........................... i’m kidding his song is rude boy by rihanna.

Milo/SH Apple Pie by Lizzie McAlpine (x) the whole thing with milo and his mom and how they kept moving around, and then him and sweetheart moving into Their Own Place ... yeah.. the song itself is about the concept of home and your other person, and there’s a verse about cardboard boxes and moving and just. yeah :’) also, it’s established that milo is ALSO good with food. 

Asher/Babe Video Games by The Young Professionals (x) not the lana del rey (original) version because something about a male voice claiming to be in a sundress is just. very ash-core. i think the song itself is pretty self explanatory if you’ve seen his videos. video games are his number one comfort thing, and the first time he confessed his love was WHILE they were playing a halo game, and said playing was a big part of why he felt compelled to do it. like i said, self explanatory. 

Gavin/FL Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur (x) this ship was a tricky one to pin. ik, overused song, i KNOW. was initially gonna go for an arctic monkeys song but gav is so much deeper as a character than that kind of erotic tension. this decision is also influenced by imp!gavin. gavin even in the imperium universe is set on a future with the freelancer and it’s just AHHH it’s the “i’ll love you in every universe” thing + the purest love you can imagine, the kind that feels as easy as breathing despite both of their baggage, the kind that only grows with age. i have Thoughts about this ship man idk. can u tell gavin’s a fav :’)

Huxley/Damien Impossible by Nothing But Thieves (x)  i can just picture dames listening to this song on repeat for hours thinking of hux. idk if the album cover’s colours have tricked me into thinking the song is damien-coded, but it makes a lot of sense for these two, y’know? huxley handles hardships like it’s a breeze, even if it isn’t, and dames isn’t used to that level of optimism. he teaches damien to be vulnerable, and moreover that he can handle him being vulnerable, because that’s something i’m sure dames has an issue with. i just love them sm, especially hux. i would  really like a huxley hug 😔

Aaron/Smartass  Nerve by Destroy Boys (x) pretty obvious why. “you stride right in and you get on my nerves, but I won’t say I’m disturbed because I want you to” y’know? also the high-hats and cymbals with the guitar, that kinda high energy rock music just reminds me of their banter. put that over passive adoring lyrics and you’ve got these two idiots ^-^

BIO:

switchblade found out about ulysses when he found a screaming two week old on his door step with nothing more than a note that said ‘he’s yours’ tucked into a blue blanket with the name ulysses stitched on it.

despite keeping him and raising him to the best of his ability, ulysses father wasn’t the most equipped to be a single father. if not for the members of the biker club his father had been in, uly's certain he wouldn't have made it to adulthood.

eventually, he managed to convince her to give him a real chance despite their differing views on his penchant for lawbreaking.

what followed was the most at peace he’s ever been in his life between that and working the odd jobs he did. he felt like he had figured out what life’s supposed to feel like, until he fucked it up. 

after edie was followed and harassed by a man who wouldn't take a hint after her shift end one night, uly took it upon himself to make sure that didn’t happen again. 

the following night, the man was found with a cracked skull and lost of vision in his right eye due to a vicious crowbar attack. be it adrenaline or plain stupidity, uly got himself caught when a very clear image of him on a CCTV camera in the parking lot got made him the only person of interest in the attack immediately after it.

due to this, jail time for aggravated assault was inevitable and he was eventually sentenced to two years in prison. 

he was paroled 6 months ago and is now adjusting to life as a free man and is trying -- and often times failing -- to stay out of trouble.

All that said: Let's get into this for one of my favourite OCs.

A quiet corner in the back room of the Hammer and Anvil, Fangthane. Yoruk Bloodvein sits back in his seat, sipping from a small glass containing firewater, while a shadowy figure opposite him nurses a mug of Snorri Ironforge's finest ale.

Interviewer: Thank you for agreeing to see me, especially on such short notice.

Yoruk: It's fine, I'd heard ye were goin' around asking folk a bunch o' questions from Merri. She said ye might ask aboot me.

Interviewer: Ah yes, how is the rest of the family?

Yoruk: They're a'right, but I dinna have all day to chat, so if we ca get this done?

Interviewer: Of course.

1. Are you named after anyone?

I think I was name for one of my great grandpas on my da's side. The Copperheart Clan has a fine and storied history, and the man I'm named after was a hero of great renown at a time when evil was far more prominent in the world. I hope I've lived up to that legacy, despite only playin' a bit part during the whole Ragnarok fiasco.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Oh, that'd be right after Gavid wis born. I ken Merri did all the hard work, but the minute I got that bairn into ma arms, I started bawlin'. Honestly, it's a good thing Elowyn was there to see to my wife because I wis in a right state for at least a good half hour. I'm no' ashamed to admit to that neither.

3. Do you have kids?

As mentioned; I have Gavid. Merri and I do plan on more children eventually, but we're happy with just the three of us for now. He's no' long started moving around, so he's a bit of a handful.

4. Do you use sarcasm?

All the time, I'm fairly certain Merri telt ye it was basically a third language around here. I do try not to use it too often because it gets a bit tiresome to work out when folk are being genuine.

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

The body language for sure. I had to get used to quickly working out when a certain birth giver was in a mood and to not bother her with "inane, childish chit chat", and that's carried over to pretty much everybody else. It's pretty helpful in my job, though, it makes working out when someone's bein' a bit shifty without having to rely on magical methods.

6. What's your eye color?

Amber, which is typical for dwarves born into noble families.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Oh Merri told me about those. Happy endings fer definite. We just got incredibly lucky to get our own happy ending and I don't much like the idea of gettin' stressed out for entertainment.

8. Any special talents?

I'm actually a right dab hand at embroidery of all things. One of my tutors from when I was a wee lad was a much aulder woman who liked to embroider her clothes and I begged her to teach me because I thought it made her clothes look beautiful. I taught Merri because she needed something to do while stuck at home during her maternity leave.

9. Where were you born?

Right here in Fangthane, in my father's house.

10. What are your hobbies?

Aside from embroidery, I enjoy a good game of cards or dominoes. We've got a rather serious dominoes tournament going on in the rec room of my chapter house right now. I've made it to the quarter finals of it so far and am hopin' that I can at least make the final.

11. Have you any pets?

Dwarves aren't big on pets, honestly. I used to like petting the miners' ponies when I was a wee lad, but those are working animals. I don't think Alistair, my mount, counts either since he's technically a divine beast who's agreed to carry me around when I need him to.

12. What sports do you play/have played?

I'm not big into sports as such. Most of my time as a lad was spent with tutors to make sure I had a decent upbringing worthy of a man of nobility. I did get into dwarven fencing for a little bit, but felt the rules were a bit too restrictive and gave it up pretty quickly.

13. How tall are you?

Four foot eleven, so one of the tallest dwarves in Fangthane. I think there's only two, maybe three others who are even the same height.

14. Favorite subject in school?

Ididn't attend a school, as such, as I mentioned before, I had personal tutors. I did enjoy learnings some of the finer arts though, having a creative outlet made life a lot more bearable while I was growin' up.

15. Dream job?

I'm pretty damn happy in the one I've got, honestly. It keeps me close enough to my family, and I'm constantly helpin' folk with various wee problems, and it doesn't hurt that the hours are consistent so I can look after my wee boy. I'm determined to be a much more present father than mine was.

Interviewer: Thank you very much for your time, Sir Bloodvein. Your answers were most enlightening, especially when taking the ones your wife gave into consideration

Yoruk: Eh, we had different upbringings despite us both livin' in Fangthane our whole lives. That was bound to happen.

Interviewer: Indeed. I had best be off, I have one more stop on this round and I have quite the journey ahead of me.

Yoruk: A'right, bye then.

The Interviewer backs into the shadows and vanishes with barely a wisp of smoke. Yoruk politely declines to point out that he can see in the dark. and downs the rest of his drink before getting up and leaving.
