what would your ocs do in a modern au?

Ooooooh good question. I had to think pretty hard about this one

Kallen would definitely be some kind of trust fund baby, set to inherit the family business, so on and so forth. In his down time he runs a poetry blog. Very much the leader in any situation he's in, he's the one who organizes and plans meet ups with his friend group, etc, etc.

Ophelia would have grown up Upper Middle Class, married Leo at 18 because her Mom was going to kick her out, is a stay at home wife out of obligation and lack of options.

Leo is employed by Kallen's dad, so Kallen and Ophelia meet at some kind of work party. After the divorce Kallen offers Ophelia a job so she can support herself (and totally not because he wants to see her more often). When she is comfortable financially, she applies to college to get a music degree

Question one: Outfits! I am in the process of really mapping out what the different cultures/species wear, and why. (it is becoming increasingly important for me to actually see the characters in full fleshed scenes and not vague concepts). While designing Ophelia's ballroom outfits has been a blast, the more interesting side in finding styles that are both practical and fit into the aesthetic of the world, like what she would wear to ride in, what they would wear to battle, etc.

Question 2: Ophelia would have the ability of like mind control/ coercion, like a siren song type deal (may or may not be based off of a real plot point, can't tell you). Kallen would have the typical superman shtick, flight, strength, etc, just an overall enhanced human.

If your OCs were mythological creatures (humanoid like a selkie or otherwise), what would they be?

What is your favorite thing to research for your WIP?

ANYTHING involving knives. I once spent a lovely afternoon researching knife fighting and knife throwing and knife types. Also I have a weirdly fun time figuring out what the qualifications necessary are for various jobs, like being in the ATF or an astronaut (but that's for fan fic)

Murder Made Us Do It

Part Thirteen: Critical Condition

When a killer targeting couples manages to avoid both the Justice League and the Devil Fugitives, the two “enemies” decide to work together to bring him down. How do you catch a killer targeting couples? You bait him with couples. It couldn’t go wrong, right?

If you’re reading this, something probably happened to us, so congrats, we actually trust you.” Anyways onto the important things. 

The three of us have written everything we remember about any locations we were taken to besides the main facility that we destroyed. It's not much but it's all we know. Now onto the information i guess.

the ground shook at 7 am, 12 pm, and 8 pm everyday at the huge training arena

I caught a snipit of the news one night and it mentioned the murder of Kallen Williams

One of the guards really liked the city's team, it had a cat in it.

The roads weren’t paved.

The woods had an endangered species

Moles could be heard through some of the halls.

There were lots of electronics nearby

One of the hallways collapsed and there was so much dirt. 

There were no windows

There was a green room with lots of plants

It took a little to follow the clues, some of it obviously covered up but eventually they did find it.

“So the murder of Kallen Williams was covered up pretty well. It took a while to find anything but it happened in West Port Washington 10 years ago. She was strangled and if the autopsy is correct, I’d say she was probably a victim of the cult. We also found out that a train runs through the city everyday at 7 am, 12 pm, and 8 pm. Their high school football team is called the West Port Tigers, and there's an abandoned warehouse 10 miles outside of the city. The tracks are about 200 feet from it.”

“Alright. Let's go.”

The warehouse was easy to find and with the supers finding the underground entrance wasn’t too hard. Everyone who stood in their way was taken down easily. Even when threatened, no one spilled anything so they couldn’t get any more information then they already had but that didn’t stop them. 

They kept going, sweeping every room as they went looking for any sign of the three. Finally they spotted Jacob at the end of the hall walking towards them. 

“Is this really neces-” He cut himself of with a scream as he dropped. The new bullet wound in his leg courtesy of Jason’s gun.

“Where are they?” Dick demanded. Jacob ignored him in favor of his leg. 

“Answer the question or one bullet wound will become two.” Tim stepped to the side to give Jason a better shot, the rest of the group waiting with the exception of Clark who was watching Bruce to make sure he wouldn’t pull the no murder bullshit. 

“No.” Another gunshot, this time in his arm. “Shooting me isn’t going to work! After all, a little pain is nothing if it means Zibheriud will be able to come to us! He’ll reward us f-” Another gunshot, he wouldn’t be getting up from it.

“Here!” That was the only warning they got before Connor ripped off one of the metal panels that made up the walls. Behind it, was another hallway. It was empty, they could see people cowering in the rooms through the glass on each door. They just locked them in, once the Black Ops were secured they would be dealt with.

They got to the end of the hall, one door left, no windows. Clark broke it down and there, laid out on cots, were Alistair, Y/n and Ry. All in critical condition. They were quickly picked up by the bats and rushed to one of the planes. The rest stayed back to take care of those left, the rest of Devil’s Fugitive would be coming to help. After all, they had history with the cult.

What is your OCS favorite meal?

Hey, I am SO SORRY for answering this so late, I don't know how this one slipped under my radar, I had no idea.

Anyways,

I'm sure this question is meant as a like specific meal like spaghetti or stir fry or something, but I don't know the answer to that, so I will instead be interpreting it as a meal time.

Ophelia is definitely a supper/dinner person, Kallen's favorite is breakfast. Sometimes Ophelia will skip breakfast, but Kallen has not missed a breakfast a day in his life.

No idea how to start talking about my original writing stuff I’m working on sooooo here’s my favorite OC to ever exist. Her name is Ophelia, and basically I have two entire high fantasy books written in my head (and about 600 words of the first one in a doc), where each book is kind of in a different genre but it all makes sense and is cohesive. (The first one being a romance and political drama book and the second being a traditional high fantasy adventure type book). These characters have been cooking in my brain for longer than I have had a tumblr, and I really think y’all would like them if I ever figured out how to talk about them that wasn’t just a billion word long post describing the plot of both in detail. But I am so proud of the dress design I couldn’t not post it. (Based off a gulf fritillary butterfly but I turned it blue because fantasy)

SO I just saw your Ophelia and Kallen picrews, and I LOVED them!! Anyways tell me some fun facts about them? Favorite food, hobbies, love languages, songs you associate with them, anything else that strikes your fancy/ you want to get to talk about?

Ahhh thank you! I have talked about them briefly here and here in terms of like lore and stuff but i would LOVE to ramble about fun facts

Favorite food: I don't have specific favorite foods for them (yet hehe) but i would say they both have a big sweet tooth

Hobbies: Ophelia is a proficient pianist (might world build on that and make a piano-adjacent instrument for the lore) and otherwise very musically inclined, she also loves dancing, like balls are her favorite just for the dancing. Kallen is the outdoorsy kind, but enjoys reading poetry (and maybe occasionally writing it for a certain someone).

Love languages: Ophelia is very much an acts of service/quality time girl, she isn't always the best at articulating her words into how she feels but she would do just about anything for her loved ones. Kallen is a words of affirmation/gift giver, he is very thoughtful and vocal about his feelings, and is definitely the type to buy/make something out of the blue just because he was feeling particularly sentimental.

Songs: I actually have a whole playlist (sans ATW10min, that's about Ophelia and her ex but i dont have any other playlists for this universe) but particularly The Archer for Ophelia and Hey Lover! for Kallen. If I ever end up finishing it and publishing it, there will be a song playlist for each book that has songs for specific scenes (ie: Gorgeous and Enchanted for their respective feelings when they meet first, Only Light for a pivotal scene in the second book that i wont spoil incase i do finish it, etc)

But yeah thats basically it, i can't think of much else to talk about, but THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I love any excuse to talk about my favs

Okay so I would absolutely LOVE to hear more about this book series. Switching genres between books? Hecking genius we love those vibes. Anyways feel free to ramble about any and all the things you want to talk about to do with them, I'd LOVE to hear about it!

I LOVE it when someone gives me an excuse to ramble.

So basically the main character is Ophelia and the story is very centric around her but her love interest Kallen is like a secondary main character, whatever you would call that.

So the plot of the first book is centered mainly around their relationship developing, but also the politics of the world with a toe dip into the magic system. So at the start she is married to someone else, but divorce is treated very flippantly in their culture, so marriage is usually for political reasons and at the end of the day doesn't really matter, and her husband, Leo, is basically a serial divorcer, he marries a girl, then divorces her after a few years and marries someone 'better'. So at this point they have been married for a few years and she just knows he's about to drop her.

The opening scene is a ball (boy do I love me a good ball) and is where she meets the prince, aka Kallen, aka the man who is about to become clinically insane about her (in a good way). So he is like immediately drawn to her and he asks her to dance (because her dumb husband wont dance with her) and like instantly love at first sight on his end, so he gets SOOO disappointed when he realizes that not only is she married but also to a garbage human. This will bother him forever.

So Leo ends up divorcing her for someone younger (ew, he is in his mid thirties, Ophelia is like 22-23, his new wife is like 18, we hate his guts) and Ophelia doesn't have any money for herself, and she really doesn't want to go back home to her mother (her mother is also a terrible person) so when Kallen finds this out he offers for her to become his sister's lady in waiting, so now she lives in the palace with him and his family (which consists of him, his sister, his aunt, and his cousin, the latter two will be very plot relevant). The romance is not what I would call a fast burn, but its also not at all a slow burn, but a main point of their developing relationship is that she feels unworthy of being loved because of her history (which wasn't her fault but that self deprecation is REAL) and she also won't let herself commit to loving him because a future with him means being queen, because his aunt is currently queen regent and he can't become king until he marries, so that puts a lot of pressure on her. She has a hard time grasping the concept of real love wont get tired of you after a little while.

So eventually when she finally opens herself up to love and be loved she can't really commit because of the aforementioned issues, like they are courting (or more like just kissing eachother when people aren't looking) but she has a lot of relationship insecurity. So, because he loves her so much and wants her to understand it, he asks her to soul bind with him (working title, havent though of anything better) but basically in this universe its like marriage premium edition, but sometimes is done between friends and family members on very very rare occasions. It's a ceremony where each person gives up a part of their soul and it gets put into a gemstone for the other to keep (usually worn as necklaces, which is the necklace she has on in the picture) and the consequences of ending the relationship are severe afterword, maybe death havent decided, but its like a serious commitment, and its rarely done anymore.

And throughout all of this there is a plot against him and several attempts on her life (because it would remove certain someone from power) and also she has to deal with prejudice against her because she isn't from one of the elite families where queens usually come from. Its a whole thing. And in the background of all of this there is a massive rift between the human kingdom and the Fae kingdom that Kallen is trying to patch. (becomes much more plot relevant second book)

and then obviously by the end of the book they are completely and confidently together (they have to be married by the second book for the plot to work lol) and then at the end in the epilogue is where the genre shift is and things get really real really fast

I think what I care most about with her, is having her find herself and become a strong female character (both in the inner strength sense and also can swing a sword sense) while retaining her softness and femininity and relying on her loved ones.

So back to that possibly real plot point, Ophelia would definitely be a siren (the plot point is not that she is a siren lol, that would be too obvious), Although I do like the bird-siren variant for her more than the mermaid kind.

Kallen would be a werewolf. I can't explain it, it doesn't even make sense to me but I know on my heart he would be a werewolf

ANYTHING involving knives. I once spent a lovely afternoon researching knife fighting and knife throwing and knife types. Also I have a weirdly fun time figuring out what the qualifications necessary are for various jobs, like being in the ATF or an astronaut (but that's for fan fic)
