When they go to save Suyin, would any of the kids be there with Lin, Bolin and Opal? And get to see their amazing grandma, Toph. Or what would the situation be like?

I wrote a little bit about the situation here:

After some thought, Mei and Jin go with Bolin and Opal. They leave before Lin even considers going after to save Su. Oh, yeah and I think I wrote Mei's fiance goes with them, too? Something like that.

So it will be a Beifong Cousin operation.

The main reason why the oldest two go is really because they want to escape their parents + irritate Linzin.

I think their decision to leave the twins behind comes from their protective nature. Because they're a little under 2 years apart, they are sort of like twins. They will always see Kang and Areum as the babies of the family.

Always.

That bothers Areum a lot more than she lets on. They always "protect" her and it makes her feel like they don't see her as strong enough to protect herself. There are always good intentions, but it rubs her the wrong way. She wants to show that she can fight for herself and them, too. But the older siblings kinda just take away those opportunities and it frustrates Areum.

Back to the Operation Beifong: Cousin Edition

Mei and Jin's logic is they get their family. The twins hold down RC with with their parents.

Oh, and Bolin is there, too I guess.

Toph has a great time with the grandkids, and roasts Bolin most of the time. She's got a good relationship with them. The kids ask some questions about Toph's past like her childhod, any cool stories, etc. Bolin is fangirling on the side and trying not to squeal

As I consider Opal, she has a very similar personality to Areum. So I feel Mei and Jin also see her as a little sister, and their protection mode goes up.

Bonus for the AU: When Opal and Areum first met, they did not like each other at all lol their similarities + protecting their own moms + feeling sense of jealousy from the other made them clash a bit. But eventually, they found solidarity in how similar they are.

Anyway, when Linzin finds out their two oldest ran off to save Su, they are pissed. But don't have time to be mad because of politics, protecting RC and Korra

Beginnings, Part 2

Wan discovers a second lion turtle city inhabited by airbenders, but no sooner has he arrived than Vaatu appears, turning other spirits dark and threatening to destroy the world. Determined to stop Vaatu, Wan resolves to master additional elements with Raava's help, and prepare for the 'Harmonic Convergence', during which Vaatu and an increasingly weakened Raava will battle for the fate of the world. Wan and Raava fail to stop a bloody war initiated between the humans and spirits by Vaatu. Arriving at the Southern spirit portal, Wan and Raava enter the spirit world and join battle against Vaatu by having Raava temporarily inhabit Wan. The battle goes poorly, but when Harmonic Convergence begins, Wan and Raava are able to fuse together permanently, thereby becoming the first Avatar. After sealing Vaatu in the Tree of Time, Wan convinces the spirits to return to the spirit world and seals the portals, becoming the "bridge" between the two worlds himself. Years later, a dying Wan lies on a smoldering battlefield and apologizes to Raava for not bringing peace to the world. But Raava assures him that their journey has only just begun; they will have many lives together in the avatar cycle of reincarnation. Korra awakens, memories restored, and leaves the island intent on stopping Unalaq's plans, whatever they may be, for the next Harmonic Convergence, which is mere weeks away.

Operation Beifong

Near Zaofu, Opal, Lin, and Bolin are joined by Toph and track the Beifong prisoners to a facility where Baatar Jr. and Zhu Li are testing a vine energy supercannon. A rescue plan takes form, but tensions run high between the previously estranged Toph and Lin. Zhu Li proves to have been feigning her loyalty to Kuvira and attempts to sabotage the weapon, but her effort is discovered by Kuvira. The rescue team frees the captive Beifongs, who engage Kuvira and her forces together, before being forced to flee by Kuvira's superior numbers. Lin and Toph find a measure of reconciliation. Zhu Li reveals that Kuvira is planning an imminent attack on Republic City; she is determined to retake all of the lands which the Earth Kingdom had once ceded to the United Republic. Meanwhile, Korra tries and fails to convince the spirits to help defend Republic City.

Kai said as he let her wrist go and closed his eyes as he looked skyward. When he opened them again he looked at her. "You're my partner. I'm going with you." Oh dear. Jin was going to kick his ass later.

When did you see the potential to ship Bolin and Wei?

Honestly, I think it started with me very much disliking how Bolin's romance was written in canon. While I love Opal as a character, Bopal always felt extremely forced and awkward to me.

I really liked the pebble scene between Bolin and Wei, but didn't really give it much thought. When my sister, cousin and I saw the rescue scene, we kinda giggled at it and I off-handedly said that they'd be a good ship and we all jokingly agreed, with my sister urging me to write a fanfic lol.

After that I ened up going back and checking which Beifong twin was doing what in which scene, since I mixed them up a lot at first. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was Wei who was Bolin's sparring partner during the pebble scene, and for some reason is always the one closer to him in most scenes.

Putting in more time to actually infer a personality for Wei from what little we were given, I really liked what weilin could be, as it carried a lot of what I wanted for Bolin in a relationship and storywise.

Weilin's two 'big' scenes are them sparring, and Wei taunting Bolin, bringing out his more competitive and petty side, something I wish we saw more, and the fandom acknowledged more. I also kinda like that Bolin isn't trying to impress Wei, it gives him a level of comfort and genuineness that he doesn't have with romantic prospects. Since Bolin is almost always trying to put on a pleasing performance, especially to girls he wants to be with. Wei is probably the closest a stranger has gotten to making Bolin step away from that polished, friendly demeanour.

The rescue scene is just chefs kiss to me. Maybe because its one of the only scenes in the entirety of operation Beifong where the Beifong family don't feel like Mcguffins Bolin has to retrieve to get back with his studio assigned girlfriend. So its nice to see Wei remind us that he is in fact a people.

I think that gesture tells us some interesting things about Wei and Bolin and their relationship. I like Bolin calling out a reassurance to Wei before he even catches him, I like how he smiles and raises an eyebrow at Wei. It's as if he's checking if Wei is impressed by his feat, but not in the over the top way Bolin does with his canon love interests. Also the fact that Bolin just kinda stays there holding him bridal style for way too long.

And the face pat. Its such a weirdly intimate gesture? And Bolin doesn't exactly seem upset with it. More puzzled, and a little confused.

Also I think its cute how Bolin brought wires for Wei and Wing. We were robbed of the scene of him giving those to them like imagine what a follow up that would be to the face pat. Bolin handing them their wires and hima nd Wei just kinda looking into each others eyes while Wing is there like: 👁👄👁

Thers just so much potential in weilin, and the themes are unmatched. Wei telling Bolin to learn through 'trial by fire' and Bolin learing lavabending through literal trial by fire. Bolin trying to metalbend his entire life and potentially getting a metalbender boyfriend. The way they are each others opposites, with Wei probably being something Bolij always wanted to be. A well off metalbender with a loving family, specifically the Beifong family, who Bolin has always admired. Like the jealousy Bolin could feel is delicious, and it would probably lead to a more intense rivalry.

I honestly mainly like Weilin because it forces me to explore aspects of Bolin often overlooked by canon and fanon alike.

- Suyin Beifong runs away from school and by the time she wants to go home it's super late, she wants to stop a car and get a ride since she doesn't have any money with her, however the luxurious red enameled car with dragons on the sides has a guy with a mobster face as its pilot and next to him her furious older sister, Lin.

- Mako needs help for a case and turns to her old mentor without knowing that he's being used as a bridge to get to his new chief.

- Lin is in the hospital after a mission, while they're discharging her she ends up getting very close to the guy on the stretcher she continues.

- The first thing that Sozan recommended to Zolt when he put him in charge of the operations was to set a goal so as not to lose motivation, he didn't count on "Hooking up with Toph Beifong's oldest daughter" being that goal.

- Tenzin is back in Republic City, with his new tattoos and the determination to conquer Lin... He didn't see that he would have competition coming.

- Suyin and Baatar are in Republic City, determined to go on a date before heading home, but plans are put on hold when Suyin spots her sister in the crowd at the nightclub on the arm of a man who, thank the spirits, is not Tenzin.

Their path crosses with both Chief Lin Beifong, and Master Waterbender, Kya. Both women become interested in Ashe around the same time. Kya & Lin have history. Ashe and Lin work together to take down a major drug ring operating in Republic City. Events all take place after season 4 & Republic City is slightly modernized.

Operation Beifong in an AU Linzin world

Recently saw The King's Man (2021) and got inspired by the relationship between Orlando and his son, Conrad.

While Orlando refuses to allow Conrad to fight in WW1 to protect him, Conrad wants to fight for his country/nation to not remain idle.

I think this dynamic fits really well for Tenzin and Jin.

Since I have so little developed their relationship in this AU, here's a case where their differences show up.

As Kuvira claims more and more of the EK, Jin had been sent out to some of the towns and befriended a girl there. He kinda catches feelings for her, but nothing serious really comes of it. They exchange letters for some time, until it stops completely.

Jin does some investigating and all he knows is that she and her family tried to escape from their hometown, claimed by Kuvira. But they are now missing or in hiding.

He tells Tenzin that the Air Nation need to step up their efforts to help others, to fight off Kuvira's influence and power.

Tenzin disagrees.

"We can't sit back and do nothing! Just because you don't want to do anything doesn't mean I won't!"

Tenzin's eyes harden. "You will not fight in any war. I forbid you from fighting."

"You can't control me."

"I'm trying to protect you! All you need to do is stay here and guide our airbenders here."

Tenzin is extremely protective of his family and doesn't any of his children involved in fighting wars. He will do so in their place to protect them, but not the other way around. he wants his children to have pacifist approach to violence in certain circumstances, but he cannot control that.

Jin felt like he did nothing to help the girl that he cared about. Now he feels like he has to do something to help improve the world, as an airbender or an individual.

When Su and her family get captured, Jin is so over it. He offers to go with Opal to rescue them. The other world leaders won't do anything about it, and Jin is tired of waiting for others.

Lin and Tenzin seem to have their own ways of dealing with the city, and have not discussed how they will save Lin's family.

Jin and Opal don't go alone.

His sister and her fiance walks up to them as they prepare Juicy for the long-flight.

"You're going to need an earthbender," Mei declares.

"And potentially a firebender," Kyung adds.

Jin and Mei had fought about this mission some time ago. Mei initially declined because it felt too reckless. Her brother also pulled a card, "Your friend killed herself and that's when you decided to speak up! What's the difference now? Our family is in danger!"

They beat each other up.

But Mei will not let her brother go alone.

The twins don't join them.

Bolin shows up last minute and Opal says, "Well...there might be something you could do to show how sorry you are..."

Jin in the saddle, rolling his eyes. "Oh no, please no, Opal...."

"I'm in."

"Fuck."

Operation Beifong 💕

Wing Beifong x Team Avatar Reader - Reader along with Toph, Opal, Bolin, and Lin rescue the Beifong Fam. A little reunion with Wing and the reader happens and Toph just comes in and asks Wing if she is his girlfriend.

Little thing to know - I HAVE REQUESTED THIS TO OTHER BLOGS BEFORE BUT DECIDED TO WRITE IT MYSELF. So no one better be accusing me of coping 😟, Thank you 🌷

Bolin, Opal, Lin, and I inspected Zaofu from a high hill full with trees. With its metal buildings and friendly residents, the city always went easy on the eyes. But now the formidable and frightening Kuvira has taken possession of the city. She additionally tore down the platinum domes that protected Zaofu. Gazing over her former home, Opal questioned, "Kuvira tore down all the domes. Why would she do that?"

Chief Beifong held up her gold telescope to inspect the damage, and in that commanding voice, she stated "She's got a whole battalion of troops stationed there. There's no way we'll be able to spot anything useful from here. We'll have to go in for a closer look." 

"Don't bother, all the prisoners have been moved." An old voice replied from behind us. In unison, all of us turned our heads. Only to see an elderly woman, clad in green, wearing her grey hair tied in a bun. Hold on... IS THIS TOPH BEIFONG?

I turned to face Bolin, who was still getting over the fact that his hero was in front of him. Once he did turn around, we were both fangirling.

Lin got to her feet, her voice uncomfortable and perplexed as she said, "Uhhh, hey chief."

"Hey, chief," Toph said back. 

Opal raced to her grandmother and hugged her, obviously thrilled. 

"OHHHH MANNN," Bolin squealed kicking his feet in a childlike manner.

Oh, this is happening now. But to be fair I was about to have the same reaction as Bolin.

"I CAN'T THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENINGGG!!" He continued. 

"What you have to pee or something?" the elderly woman replied laced with annoyance. Opal laughed at her grandmother's sassy reply.

"No, well, now maybe. You're my hero! My name is Bolin, and I'm dating your granddaughter. I mean kind of, I may have screwed that up, but that's why I'm here, and you're my hero! Oh, I said that. Can I have a hug too?" he reached out his arms for a hug. I chuckled a bit at his babbling. 

Toph said, "What's up with him?"

"He's an actor." Her daughter replied.

Toph questioned me, "And Y/N do I get an enthusiastic greeting from you?"

"Hi to you Toph." I grinned and replied. 

"So you already checked the city for Sue? How do you know she was captured?" Lin asked Toph.

"I've been living in the swamp and keeping watch on Zaofu through the vines." She responded.

The five of us exchanged questions and discussed where to go. 

We strolled towards Opal's bison, Juicy. 

"Grandma, this is Juicy." Opal said to her grandma.

"And I thought Appa was smelly. Why would you choose this leaky, nasty, thing?" 

"You don't choose your bison he chooses you. And once he chooses you, you can't change. Believed me I checked."

I viewed Kuvira's army while riding the Bison and relished the cool wind on my face. 

"So," Bolin nudged my arm,, "you ready to save Wing?" , wiggling his eyebrows. 

"Yeah, I really miss him. I'm just hoping we'll be able too." I answered.

"Hey don't say that, of course we'll save him." Bolin reassured me.

"Thanks, and if we do save the family, you can hopefully win over Opal." I pushed him on the shoulder

He shook me and exclaimed, "Let's go save our relationships!"

The Beifong’s were held captive in a dim, unsettling cave. The cave was only illuminated by green crystals, and they were enclosed in a wooden cage that was supported by ropes.

"The guards are on the other side of that door. We'll have to be quiet." Toph remarked.

"Shoot me over to the cage and I can swing them back in my cable. Bolin, Y/N you two will have to catch them since mom won't be able to see them." Lin says, Bolin and I nod in agreement.

First I saw Lin swing over Wei. Bolin is the one to catch him. And here comes my Wing. After being set free by Lin's cable. I grabbed Wing in an embrace, stumbling a little. My arms wrapped around him tightly while he did the same. 

I kissed him all over his face a million times and held his face when we released each other. "I missed you so much Wing."

"Missed you more, sweetie. I can't believe I managed to go without seeing your face for that long." He cracked a grin. 

"You are not leaving my side from now on Wing Beifong, and don't even think about infiltrating another one of Kuvira's camps." I said, coming in for another hug.

"Wing your dating Y/N?" Toph interrupted. 

Wing held my hand and brought me over to Toph, "Yes grandma Toph."

Toph asked, "And you never told me?"

"Well, you were gone for-"

Toph cut him off, "I was talking to Y/N."

I answered hesitantly, "Heh. I guess I never did tell you."

Toph laughed to herself, "Well, you two seem happy together. its better than my other relationships, I can tell you that. Wing when are you putting a ring on her finger?" 

Wing and I looked at each other, blushing. Wow, Toph loves to cause mischief.

Bolin jumps into the conversation, shrieking like a young child again, "Yea, Wing, when are you going to?"

I looked at him with startled eyes and said, "Wait Bolin, aren't you supposed to catch them!?"

THUD! Something sounded behind us.

Glancing back, we saw Juan sitting on the ground, gazing at us.

"Thanks."

Finished Fic: Smoke

It's finally done! My fic for this year's @wipbigbang is one of my longest-running WIPs and also one of my personal favorites. My apologies and thanks to anyone still waiting to find out what happens to Equalist!Asami and her unexpected lover - I hope the ending is both satisfying and believable.

Story Title: Smoke

Fandom: Avatar: Legend of Korra

Summary: When General Iroh is captured during the Battle of Yue Bay, it's up to Asami to extract information from him that will win the Equalist revolution. By any means necessary.

Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence, major character death, suicide attempt, major character injury

Characters: Iroh II, Asami Sato, Hiroshi Sato, Amon | Noatak, Amon's Lieutenant, Tarrlok, Mako, Lin Beifong, Zuko, Izumi, Original Equalist Characters

When I Started: February! February 2021, that is. Eek.

How I Lost My Shit: Most people who know my writing know I'm a die-hard panster, so while I had a loose idea of how this fic would go from the beginning I of course didn't write that. This was my first time writing a real Enemies to Lovers (like literally they try to kill each other a lot) and I found that as a consequence of that I needed to make changes to the story along the way in order to fit the genre. A big decision was to slow down the action to make the romance believable, and another was to flesh out more of the Equalists and their operation in order to avoid a "good guy good and smart, bad guy bad and dumb" dynamic which wouldn't support the kind of story I wanted to tell. All this in turn led to a time skip and whole second half to the fic that I hadn't anticipated followed by a few long breaks myself while I tried to figure out where the story needed to go from there and who with. Mostly because the main characters both wound up killing people I hadn't planned for and so there was a whole legal thing I had to puzzle through that eventually ruled out the original ending I'd had in mind. Nobody listens to me, you know? And I now know an awful lot about immunity and extradition.

How I Finished My Shit: @chocolate-cringymuffin, an existing reader of this fic, incredible artist, and dear fandom friend, agreed to be my artist for the WIP Big Bang. I could NOT let them down. There's really nothing more motivating than fan art from someone who cares about your story. I might not have finished this fic without their enthusiasm. I certainly wouldn't have finished it today.

ALSO CHECK OUT THEIR BOMB-ASS ART!!!! HOLYYYYY CRAP!!! It's so beautiful I'm crying. They're so happy. I also love the choice of scene, which comes at a part of the fic where I think both of them really commit to letting the past be the past and their new life together.
