THIS, THIS IS EVERYTHING!
When it comes to OG!Cale ships I like both OG!AlCale and OG!ChoiHan but it really depends on the scenario
For example, I like OG!AlCale in both regression aus and TBoaH adjacent timeline things because I think a huge thing I like in their dynamic is how mysterious they both are to the other party. The fun of their dynamic is them discovering more about each other and the various miscommunications they have cause of their own personalities, and I think that works very well no matter the universe.
But with OG!ChoiCale, I feel like I can really only enjoy it in TBoaH adjacent things or if they both have the memories of the first life.
To me, a big thing about OG!ChoiCale is about the life they lived together, how they hated eachother, how they both didnā€™t know eachother for years, how they could have spent time together during the war due to unfortunate circumstances(there not being enough people left)
Like, I think OG!ChoiCale can be such a cool dynamic, such a sad, but comforting one at the same time. Itā€™s a little bitter how the man you thought you would hate forever became a close companion, how heā€™s more similar to you than your younger self woild have ever thought, but do you really hate it?
Can you really hate having a person who understands you, when so many people have died? When so many are gone?
Something about the sadness of it all, how it was tragedy that brought them against each other at first, but now it brings them together. How they could only ever grow to understand eachother because of the pain they face, the pain that they shared. At some point, can you really hate him, even until the end? After all those years? After coming to understand him? No, you cannot.
Like, it adds in extra layers when they both care about each other at some point mid-way through the war, but they still canā€™t really talk to eachother properly. They care, but they frustrate one another, anger each other. Choi Han doing increasingly more risky and self sacrificial things because ā€˜Iā€™m a heroā€™ ā€˜I have to do it.ā€™ ā€˜It is justice to save peopleā€™, despite the fact that itā€™s at the expense of himself
And Caleā€™s frustration at Choi Hanā€™s attitude. He can never wrap his head around the fact that Choi Han destroys himself for the sake of other people, and believes itā€™s heroic(He knows Choi Han doesnt, he know Choi Han hates it too, but he doesnā€™t know what else to say to himself other than the fact that ā€˜itā€™s for the greater goodā€™, because he will go crazy if he doesnā€™t)
Heā€™s mad, but thereā€™s some twisted sense of understanding in there too. Cale understands, because he became trash for his family, he became trash to protect them, he had to do it.
But thatā€™s only what he thought.
He was older now, he had lost them all, and he had seen how his trash act hadnā€™t done anything to protect them. It only distanced him from them, and now they were gone, and he could never see them again, he could never make amends.
Cale is mad at Choi Han for sacrificing himself because while Choi Han is hurting himself, the people who he loves, and the people who love him, watch him do it over and over again and he doesnā€™t listen to their worried cries.
Heā€™s mad, but he understands. It was frustrating to be on the other side, watching someone destroy themselves for the sake of others when the people who cared about them wanted the exact opposite. The only difference between him and Choi Han was that Choi Han was never a good liar, he could never hide how much pain he went through.
In a way, Cale thought it was better that way.
At some point, there is love that is there. Love that follows them, and itā€™s so painful because they both know the tragedy edy to it that is how they are doomed, how they can never be happy in the first time line where they knew each other.
Because as Cale and Choi Han, they canā€™t be happy. Not when so much has been lost, not when the world is falling apart, they may love each other, but loving each other as they are means being in a world where everything else they love is gone.
It is a cruel kind of love.
Like letā€™s say they do pursue these feelings, even though knowing those two I donā€™t think theyā€™d ever say anything in that scenario. If they did it would probably be Cale going like:
ā€œChoi Han, do you love me?ā€
Choi Han doesnā€™t say anything, but his silence in place of adamant refusal is enough of an answer.
ā€œDo you love me, Cale?ā€
Cale doesnā€™t say anything either, only smiling at Choi Han with his signature, cynical and bitter smile.
He didnā€™t deny it either.
It was a confirmation of feelings, but unlike the confessions from romance novels and stories, the main character and lead do not end up together and live happily ever after.
They stay together, but the world around them is not happy, not at all. They are together, but not as partners or as lovers, but two people who live in their suffering because all they can do is live.
I feel like anything they do together would always have an air of melancholy to it. Maybe they kiss, once, and no more, because there is no point in making it a regular thing. Not when everything in their world will end, even if they keep on fighting for it to not be that way.
They kiss, and itā€™s short, but in that short moment, the world is nothing but Cale and Choi Han.
Isnā€™t that selfish? If itā€™s like this, then they could ignore how everything has gone so badly. But that is exactly why they cannot be together, there is no ignoring the reality of their situation, no matter how sweet it would be to live in a false dream and never wake up.
I like my OG!ChoiCale a little doomed.

While I think Garp would be soley responsible for Mihawkā€™s hair falling out in clumps if they spent any amount of time together
I do think garp and Zoro would get on splendidly. As they are after all the same flavor of person.
any attempt to put all three of them in the same room will give Mihawk ulcers.
Mihawk would comment on their stupidity
Garp would respond ā€œainā€™t got to be smart to be a marineā€ and zoro would raise his glass in salute ā€œ here, hereā€
And Mihawkā€™s blood pressure would reach levels previously inaccessible by man.

for the choose violence ask game!
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
i was going to be kind enough to not screenshot but i lied i'm choosing violence. this is less of a take and more of an incorrect quote i suppose but. every time i remember it exists i stare at a wall for like 20 minutes.

most posts under the "chaotic tim drake"/"unhinged tim drake" tags do. get to me. they are all liable to make me spontaneously combust but something about this one. the way Tim's fanon kill count magically gets higher every time it's brought up. the way it directly contradicts Tim's internal deep-seated fears about turning into Bruce and that's why he has always planned to retire after being Robin the *entire point* of Tim Drake of Tomorrow is to show how horrified Tim is and how future!evil!Tim will always go too far. like i genuinely do not know what character ppl are talking about with the "Tim is most likely to become a supervillain and somehow this a cutesy headcanon" sort of thing. it plagues me. consider me plagued. i could go on and on about it for hours and how deeply it contradicts Tim's character to his core. also just why does the fandom want to make him a villain so bad? i don't understand.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
i already gave one answer to this question here, but worry not i have endless answers to this one. a bit one for me is: the idea Cass should use ASL. it icks me out. i will close a fic if Cass is using ASL i will not lie. firstly, she does not canonically know ASL. secondly, it doesn't make *sense* for her to use it bc her disability has nothing to do with the ability to speak, it has to do with her language learning skills. and ASL is, *still a language*. and would be just as difficult to learn, if not more-so bc it could set back her learning of English and would not be as easily applicable as English to her daily life. it's a headcanon that ranges from well-meaning misunderstandings to just downright ableism that infantilizes Cass and infantilizes ASL. honestly i get touchy in general about fandom using ASL when not written by a Deaf writer/someone who knows ASL bc... you can tell. you can always tell. (hearing fans stop trying to come up with sign names for the Batfam i'm gently begging you.) there are many good posts breaking down why this headcanon doesn't really work but i'm just salty and feral about it.
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
the headcanon/fanon concept that Tim has lasting psychological trauma due to the Titans Tower incident, or that it has caused him to be afraid of Jason. (the same can be applied to Damian cutting Tim's line being something that Matters to Tim longterm or causes fear of Damian) like? beyond the "that is not canon, that event really didn't bother Tim and Tim was a cocky little shit the whole time", i'm unsure how this... fits into the fanon version of Tim? like i don't *understand* it. how it is that fandom likes "Tim has a super high kill count and is going to be a supervillain" but also... thinks one bad fight that roughed Tim up a bit has made him terrified of one person specifically? these feel contradictory. either he can Take The Heat or He Can't. this weird waffling where he's both the biggest badass around but also somehow a wilting traumatized kid confuses me. i don't necessarily mind the exploration of Tim being angry or pissed off about these events, or even him being more injured than he was in canon and dealing with that, but him being like. so afraid of Jason it influences their relationship has always eluded me. it contradicts everything else about fanon!Tim and makes him seem... sort of cowardly? like not that events like these can't be traumatizing but in his field of work they're not unique events. these are normal Tuesdays for him. why is it affecting him so much in fanon.

in my most recent trawl through the ace attorney tag i saw a post that, based on its phrasing, may have been prompted by the ask i answered about my thoughts on aa5 and 6. nothing wrong with that, pretty standard 'why does everyone act like aa5/6 killed mainline but when you go and actually play them they're just fine games'. at the end of the day whether or not you think 5/6 are well written, interesting, or fun is extremely subjective. but it's crazy how whenever anyone is making a post about how Everyone Is Just Being A Hater The Games Aren't That Bad the racism thing never comes up.
since i'm insane enough to comb through the main fandom tag without really having anyone blocked and while filtering almost nothing i have seen a Lot of pro soj stuff, and i can't recall a single instance of anyone actually talking about the racism when they come out with an overall favorable view of the game? i obviously can't know what anyone is thinking but the impression i get is that many of them don't actually view the racism as real/an issue and kinda view pointing it out as a 'gotcha' that people who hate the game use as a cudgel against it. like we just think the game is racist because we hate it and are trying to find reasons to shit on it? it would be refreshing to see even one person go 'heres why i think shitting on aa6's writing is blown out of proportion but i do still agree that its racist'

i say this with so much heart, one piece has more respect for mentally ill people being a dick because of trauma than i would have in that exact situation. like sanji in wci when hes fully being a massive huge wet pathetic asshole that. like. completely justified that nami reacts so negatively to that while the narrative has a lot of empathy for him because i would kill someone in real life if they did that to me. even if it was a beautiful blond haired man and i had been playing heterosexual chicken with him ever since we first met. the self control on nami there is literally neverending.
like its good that this is the case, well written narratives about mental illness should be this empathetic while fully understanding the consequences of someones actions LIKE wci. these two things are so often treated like theyre mutually exclusive but for op they're not. and i love that. but jesus. she really loves him huh.

i finally cracked and spent like half an hour tracking down that post you keep referencing because i had NO IDEA what you were talking about and i found it and........ my analysis is that its written by someone who really wanted their relationship to Be A Certain Way and projected that onto them and the depth and reveal of veth shattered that and created that very simplistic analysis. its coming from a place where nott and caleb were their one and only's, no question who each other's #1 Person was, but like OBVIOUSLY a husband and son interrupt that. and caleb was A priority for veth rather than The priority for nott.
which completely ignores her struggle to balance her radically different lives and caleb's constant compassion and struggle to protect her AND her family...... because he loves her so he loves them and became an integral part of their lives too...... idk it just struck me as coming from a very particular place
Oh anon, you should have spared yourself and just not looked it up. I don't want to harangue about the post too much because I did plenty of that last year (sorry I can't direct you to those posts, they're old and none of them were searchably tagged so it'd be a bitch and a half to find them), but like yeah I do think the take came from A Particular Place and that there's a lot of projection happening there, I agree with that. It's just that the post is basically only projection, and the place it comes from overlaps with the land of delusion where we never watched the show past episode 47, but yeah, that is A Place and apparently 1.5k other people have also visited this Place, which is one of my least favorite things I am burdened with knowing about.
Like, it's the gall to say that Caleb was looking at Veth and thinking "maybe she's as weird as I am" and things like that that get me because it's such a staggeringly ahistorical take, particularly considering Veth's backstory hinges on the fact that she was bullied her whole life for being WEIRD. And I recently happened upon a clip from the Talks for episode 50 where Liam was answering a question about how Caleb was taking the Veth reveal and his answer essentially boiled down to [paraphrased], "Caleb already loved Nott and thought they were similar--but now he knows they're even more alike than he could have guessed. And he loves her. He just loves her."
The idea that the Veth reveal shattered all of Caleb's visions and dreams of what their relationship was now that he knows who Nott "really" is (a "Happily Married Straight Woman" as OP so helpfully describes, in contrast to Caleb's newly listless and unmoored "Queer Neurodivergent Friend") is so ahistorical I need to go to a rage room about it. That did not happen. I have to believe the only way someone could agree with this is if they never watched past ep. 47, but considering how many people interacted positively with that post, I somewhat doubt that's the case, which makes it, like, the prime example of how Veth (a relatively unpopular character) seems to be thought of--and misinterpreted--by the wider fandom. And, in the words of Liam O'Brien himself: "That's a big matzo ball."

Rewatching Dressrosa and crying through half of it AGAIN 'cause what the fuck every arc in OP is so TRAGIC!!!!!!!!! And I haven't even gotten to the Law flashback yet I'm still in the middle of the arc (birdcage was just activated).
But seriously, everything that happened to literally everyone in that country was so sick and sad, Kyros' decade-long personal hell but unbreakable spirit man that shit kills me every time. Oda at least knows how to write some pretty decent fathers (too bad he refuses to do even half the work to write equally decent mothers who live!)
Usopp is such an MVP of this arc though, like he literally gets the title of God here and it's well earned, the way Doflamingo was so personally pissed off by him is hilarious and Usopp's just losing his shit the whole time 'cause boy does he know how to step on a landmine without even meaning to.
But also I really loved Franky in the first part of this arc, the way he was the one to ask Luffy for permission to essentially wage war on Doflamingo after hearing the story of the Tontatta and their history and suffering with tears in his eyes 'cause he cares so much and can't stand to see all the pain and injustice and do nothing. It sucks he then got the worst fight of the arc against Senor Pink 'cause he's awful.
Also, Sabo~ no one thinks about Ace as much as him and I love that so much :( the fact that the first move he did after eating the mera mera was Ace's Hiken gets my ass every time :'( I have so many feelings for these brothers!
