Brains Gang: First Meeting

I accidentally drew Dinois as a lefty and now headcanon her as ambidextrous. I'm so used to drawing my own characters with a dominant left hand I didn't even question it. She is a pirate and was separated from her crew, now trying to make a living on her own, while searching for her people.

Fisher is still an amalgamation, but this time of flying fish, which also have lungs. Don't worry, the sword is more dangerous than their environment right now.

Tremolo is a dragonfish (Pegasus papilio), but it's barely noticeable because I couldn't get the markings right and just went with my own version... sigh. Also don't ask how he got up there. He just wanted to save Fisher and determination does things, I suppose. Dinois didn't expect him to get up there either. :D

Abysskite Girls: Reverse Beauty Day

The girls have their own tail design because I didn't just want to put the cards in there. It's often shown how Tremolo styles the girls, for obvious reasons. I decided to put it in reverse. How all of this works underwater? Merfolk science. Aside from that I made extra sure all of them use their right hand. (Unless it turns out one of them isn't in the show. Oops.)

Ange is a clownfish, Karen is a mahi mahi and Liem is a redtoothed triggerfish. Mostly because of their colour schemes and because I had nothing else for them. ;^;

Leaders of Mutsuba Town: Lucky Streak

Asaka is a former Marine who had enough of the crown. Yuna is a former princess who had enough of her parents. Both became rouge and are now leading their own pirate crew. They bicker a lot but they're very attached to one another, because of their shared past.

Phaser is a dragonfish (Pegasus papilio) and a black dragonfish (Idiacanthus atlanticus) (the female version because bigger and prettier (in my opinion)... ftm trans Phaser?). Also, screw the markings once again. He was looking for Tremolo (who is out to save Fisher) and accidentally got himself into a situation.

Icy Furniture Duo (dragon on dragon violence lmao): Downside of Fashion

Luge and Zaion are former captain and first mate. I'm not sure whether to go with "their ship sank and all their crew drowned (sad)", or "got kicked out because Luge wouldn't stop telling his terrible tales every night, ruining the party mood (somewhat funny)". Going with the latter version, Zaion got kicked, because the crew thought him and his furniture blue prints to be annoying, too.

During their travels on their lonely boat, Zaion somehow caused Tremolo harm and Phaser could not let that slide. I doubt Phaser would actually resolve to violence like this, but card games do not exist here and neither does the MIK. ^^'

Everyone knew you and heeseung had the perfect relationship. All the qualities that were written in books and told in fairy tales. People were always so jealous of the love you had for each other. Love support care comfort admiration endearment etc etc. but that wasn't the case behind closed doors.

It always starts this way. You say something and he says the opposite leading to useless fights over nothing. You were too similar, both being close minded and only sticking to what you believed in. even when it came to someone you supposedly 'loved'. You were both so selfish.

It's the same thing over and over again. You get offended and leave, but he brings you back. he leaves and you bring him back. Always claiming " I love you and I dont want to". But, alas here you are again fighting over you can't even remember because you let your insecurities take over both of you. Again.

"God is it my fault you're always so insecure?! I'm sick of comforting you all the time. I have my own worries tooyou know. You're just so frustrating and exhausting. I hate being with you I hate you." he yells and mutters the last part. It stuns you. How can it not? After everything you've done for him. He still choose to say i hate you?

Standing there and taking in what he said, you look up at his eyes "...i love you, im sorry Im like this." you whisper while your eyes well up with tears. he's unaffected at first, he's seen it a before. you'll cry, he'll hug you and apologize and then you'll sleep on the same bed holding each other as if nothing happened.

You'll live tomorrow like nothing happened. But this time seems different. He can tell the look in your eyes shows that your mad at urself more than him. Even after he told you that you mean nothing to him and when he basically poured salt in all your wounds.

"Maybe we should just break up for good this time and i mean it."

"maybe we should just try to tell ourselves a good lie and say that we ended on good terms isn't that what you want people to know?"

"look I didn't mean to say that, but-"

"you can't take it back and say you were trying to make me understand how you feel.You always say too much and regret it after. I'm done forgiving you." you say locking eyes with him.

"someone like me deserves better than to be treated like this. I've done all I can to help you too. I saved you heeseung, multiple times that wasn't easy you know. I saved your friendships, your career, and I saved you from yourself too. Why am I still taking the blame after all that?"

It's better to say everything right now than holding these words in, even after you leave each other. "I never felt loved being with you. Everything that's associated with you is fake. your smile, the look in your eyes, your laugh, everything about you is just.. fake." You say with a scoff and walk towards him brushing his hair out of his eyes and holding his cheek in your hand as you always do. Always holding him so softly and gingerly. As if he's made of glass. To you he is. He always is.

His only problem other than being a selfish prick, is that he bites more than he can chew. No matter how much he promises to change and be better. He can't. He knows that he can't, and now he's done promising, which is why this is all happening.

"Admit that you're fake heeseung. That's all you'll be." you mutter and give him a pitiful look as more tears well up in your eyes blurring your vision. Blurring the tears welling up in his eyes too.

"I'm sorry." he whispers with a broken voice. He holds the hand that's on his cheek. He holds it and squeezes it showing his sincerity this time. Showing that he means it this time. but it's too late.

You pull away sighing. Taking your coat and bag, heading straight to the door. You tell urself not to look back. You know that if you look back you'll see him again, all broken and hurt, that sight that always breaks you and pulls you back to him.

"bye heeseung, I love you." you say as you open the door. You leave as if you're just going to work, as if you're just going out and that you'll come back soon enough. But now you both know that you're leaving for the last time and for good. No going back. No looking back. No taking back anything that happened .

"sorry y/n." was the last thing you heard as you closed the door behind you.

So much for 'perfect love' huh?

Buffy the vampire slayer: always my nr 1. I remember when my husband tried to get me into this show and I wasn't feeling it. A show about a teenage girl slaying vampires and falling in love with one, it all sounded very lame to me. But then we watched an episode on tv together, it was "Hush" (every Buffy fan knows enough now lol) and it just changed my opinion completely. That episode was so creepy, so funny, so well written from start to finish. I knew I had to see more. I fell in love with the rest of the show pretty quickly. Some episode are still some of the best tv I've ever seen (The Body!) and now we rewatch it every 1-2 years and I'm still not sick of it. Anyone who hasn't watched it yet please go give this masterpiece a chance.

Friends: I know it's a cliche show but I just adore it, I grew up with it, I've loved these characters for years and I will continue to love them. Another show I like to rewatch every few years. (I'm still very disappointed adult life isn't like it is in Friends lol)

Battlestar Galactica (the 2004 version): hands down best sci fi show for me because it's so much more than a sci fi show. This is so well written, the character development is probably the best I've watched in any tv show. I remember watching it for the first time and just being on the edge of my seat with every episode. Also love that this is a story with a beginning and ending that just feels completely finished, full circle, something that is rare these days.

Ally McBeal: I'm sure my age is showing in these choices lol, but this show shaped me as a young adult. I wanted to be Ally and tackle adult life the way she did, she made me feel it was okay to be a little crazy. The show is just so original, I loved the music as well (I used to buy all the Vonda Shepard cd's lol) and it was so sentimental and melancholic, if you wanted to have a cry you knew you could do it with this show. I haven't rewatched it in a long time so I don't know how well it stands now but I may just have to see for myself soon.

Stranger Things: I know the show gets a bad rep cause it's so overhyped but it's genuinely just an amazing show. I've been on board since season 1 and every season just gets better for me, I mean I already loved it and then they gave us Eddie! :) But seriously, it's just the perfect mix between mysterious horror/sci fi and that 80's nostalgia that takes me back in time. For those how haven't watched it yet, forget about the hype and just watch it.

Haunting of Hill House/Haunting of Bly Manor: yes, I'm listing them both cause I can't really choose. I love ghost stories and I love them even more when they revolve around love (as the show says, a ghost story is a love story) They are both so hauntingly beautiful and sad, the perfect mix between creepy and romantic. And that quote: "I loved you completely. And you loved me the same. That's all. The rest is confetti." has me in tears every time.

Extraordinary attorney Woo: It's still a pretty new show and it only has one season but I have to put this one in here because it is such a gem. I think it's the best way I've ever seen autism portrayed in a tv show. All characters are brilliantly written and the show, a K drama which isn't always my thing, is just so heartwarming and lovely to watch. Definitely recommend!

The Boys: If you're MCU tired (like I am) this show is the biggest breath of fresh air in the superhero genre (and also a big Fuck You to all the other superhero movies/shows). Bold, bloody and disgusting and anything but family friendly lol I was hooked after one episode and I'm still hooked 3 seasons later. This show dares to go where others don't and I just find it hilarious and so on point!

I see your tags about the rendubs divorce arc + Ren running off with Bdubs' ex + Bdubs declaring himself king because he can do it better, and I hear you loud and clear

But I am now here with a counter offer, aka you got my thoughts spinning and this relates to a fic I started but never finished because writing angst makes me too sad. (this ask that ended up way longer than I thought it would oops)

What if renthubs polycule (or some flavor of poly hermits i'm not picky) where the three need some time to mentally recover and process the whole king arc. Ren goes to Doc, Etho goes to his single player world and Bdubs goes to Empires.

Doc ends up helping Ren get through his anxieties and fears after being king, including his dynamic with all the people in the rebellion and the feeling that his friends and partners would hate him for everything, which is of course not actually true. And I think that Ren is the type of guy to process things relatively quick and be able to bounce back. So once he is more stable, he follows everyone to empires.

Bdubs runs away through the rift and declares himself a god on Empires, which shows you about how well he is (not) coping with everything. To me, he is the type to loudly declare that he's over it, but he ends up festering the emotions, particularly when no one else is really talking about the king anymore. He's fine, why wouldn't he be fine, he's a god. (side eyeing joel here as well after dl)

Then Etho. Hmm. I think he isn't as bothered by it by the other two but I'm not 100% sold on that either. There has to be a certain melancholy to knowing your partners aren't in the best headspace and not really being able to do much about it. And the guilt about fighting against them and having to be part of the group to kill them. The third life memories would have to be coming in at full force. It may be lower stakes on hermitcraft but I don't think that matters when the memories are that emotionally charged.

I think that in the chaos of the empires collab and then the start of a new year with new projects and tcg and everything, the three don't really get a chance to sit down and talk. Bdubs is hiding away in the monolith drafting up visions of another grand castle base. Etho and Ren see each other more often with tcg matches and, through a number of casual interactions surrounded by other hermits, decide that maybe it would be time to talk. And there wouldn't be a better excuse to talk than a big project.

So the boat race idea is born. Etho and Ren go out to the ice spikes and scope it out. They end up around a fire made of some spare wood and end up talking well into the night. It starts out with plans and slowly ends in a heart to heart, where they finally express their struggles with everything and their commitment to each other going forward. They fall asleep cuddled together in a sleeping bag under the stars.

And bdubs is still festering. He doesn't stop long enough to realize. His days are filled with planning and designing and gathering materials. He works himself to exhaustion so he is too tired to think about who and what he is missing. He's fine. He builds a throne room.

Em you have no idea how insane this ask made me I am. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

GOD! GOD! You are soooooooo right about how they would each react and recover/not recover tbh. And its like - Ren isn't 100% but he's like. He's getting there and being up and moving around will help him out - and Bdubs just. HHHHH Bdubs throwing himself into his work to hide from his woes while putting on the 'I'm FINE! ACTUALLY!!!" im ill. And Etho just having. No clue really god bless him he's looking between the two of them and trying to figure out what the best way to approach everything is.

GOD and then the way you thought about rentho bonding and finally talking bc of the TCG and then going out to build the boat race while bdubs unknowingly is festering back home im hhhhhhh. I am normal about this i am so normal. [They should. play clocks against each other in the tcg where they bond. For no reason. ]

Imagine coming back from having a boat race and doing fun stuff out in the ice to find bdubs having completely thrown himself into an insane task without break and its like. you've gotta figure out how to approach it he cant just fester but he's closed off and hiding behind work to not have to address his feelings. I am normal I am feeling soooooooooooooooooooo normal.

Sorry I'm replying here instead of in the comments or rb tags so I don't run out of room and so I can keep my thoughts flowing- [BECAUSE THANK YOU, I am giving you the biggest hugs and forehead kisses, sorry if my response makes you more sad-]

[Also i fear this is going to be a bit incoherent, so apologies in advanced. I ramble and repeat some things, oops.]

Marida Sumar has a lot of mixed feelings about Alexsandr Kallus. But she dislikes him pretty consistently for at least the first 4-5 years. She doesn't start growing any type of affection for him until after the events of Lasan. If I'm recalling correctly, she's the one who sticks to hating him the longest. But she decides to back off about 3-4 years after this first meeting, because she does start taking into account who he is as a person. It just isn't enough for her to welcome him because of his standing alongside the empire.

She is the one he calls when he finds out that Tseebo left after staging and following through a separation with Ezra. [I'm still working that specific but out.]

But she learns that Kallus has been doing everything he could to have Mira and Ephraim released, and now he is currently attempting to track them down. And it smothers bits of her contempt.

And once the time finally came for Kallus to see Marida for the first time after Morad's death (which wouldn't be for a while because Kallus has to stay isolated in the empire or he'll risk being found out), Kallus is expecting her to blame him for not trying to do something to save him. He's expecting her anger, her rage, her accusations, for her to yell, to attack him, to question his loyalty, to question his integrity, to spit on his name and curse him. He expects her blame. But he doesn't get even a drop of it.

Between Morad's death & their reunion, quite a few months would have passed. He obeyed the orders Luthen gave him (isolating in the empire to evade risk of revealment) and the promise he made to Morad (to not risk his valuable position to make an attempt to save his life), and even before the conversation Kallus had with Morad, Kallus had gone to Marida first. To know what she would want Kallus to do, because as someone who loves Morad deeply and dearly, she has say in this decision and Kallus was determined to take her wants/needs just as seriously as Morad's. And (according to the hc I've made for her) she is not new to war. She's a fighter and she knows that war takes and takes from you before you can take from it. She fully understands the risk everyone is taking, the sacrifices that might be made, that may have to be made.

And so when she does see Kallus again, because of how the fact that he couldn't return to Lothal, even after Zero Hour, until the battle for the liberation of Lothal, a good chunk of time has passed. She's been on Lothal scrapping for every inch she can take against the Empire.

Morad has always had much more faith in Kallus than she did. For a long while she chucked it up to the fact that her husband wants to believe there's good in everyone. It was unexpected to her when he first told her that he had a good feeling about Kallus after a couple years of Kallus taking care of Ezra, because even with wanting to have faith in goodness of people, Morad hadn't had that for any imperial. Marida had thought that he was going soft, losing touch. And Morad knew she didn't agree with the sentiment, but after Kallus realigns his faith&loyalty, Morad asks her to help him work with Kallus.

And they work with Kallus for two years, getting help from Kallus to continuing aiding the citizens of Lothal, trying to locate Ezra, and all well Kallus is trying to throw everything he can to finding Mira and Ephraim. Up until both Marida and Morad wake up in the middle of the night with a start, knowing that something has happened; somewhere. They don't know what, but neither of them are able to settle. Until Kallus shows up unannounced on their door step. Marida feels she knows exactly what's coming before he ever even looks at them or opens his mouth.

I still need to work our how this scene is going to happen because I need to have more prior context and work more on Morad & Sumar, but as Kallus is delivering the news of the passing of Mira & Ephraim, their involvement of a prison break out, and how they succeeded in helping so many people escape,they themselves did not, and he gives both Morad and Marida his condolences. And the entire time Kallus is talking, Marida can't stand how impersonal Kallus is being, how he's trying to distance himself from the events. These are her best friends. These are two people she knows he's been working nearly every day for damn near eight years to restore their freedom and he's acting as if he isn't affected by the extinguishment of two powerful forces to be reckoned with, two people who spent every day of their lives and all of their effort into making change. And he's here trying to revert after all the time Marida knows damn well that Mira and Ephraim probably spent to give Kallus the freedom to express himself. And here he is; trying to undo all of their efforts.

This specifically angers Marida because she never got to see Mira or Ephraim since the day the empire dragged them from their home.

Morad and Marida convince Kallus into sharing his emotions on it and it isn't until Kallus starts to sob that Marida finally starts crying, Morad holding them both as the three of them mourn the loss of Mira Bridger and Ephraim Bridger. And that night is one of the last nights Marida sees Kallus because it's shortly after that that Kallus becomes Fulcrum and isolates himself further into the empire to be a double agent for the rebellion. And that's also the night that the hatred Marida once held for Kallus is killed.

So when Marida sees Kallus again, during the preparation for the battle of lothal, it was Kallus who came to seek her out as soon as he got the chance. And his face is filled with remorse and sadness and she knows exactly what he came to find her for, because this is the first time she's seen him since Morad's passing. Before he even has the chance to dare say that he's sorry, she pulls him in for a hug and hold him just as tightly as Morad had held the both of them the night of Mira & Ephraim's passing. And she feels how in an instant the man begins to cry and his lungs rattle with every breath. And it's brings her own grief all the way back up. She cries harder when Kallus returns her efforts of comfort.

And here they both are, mourning, grieving, and seeking to offer comfort to the other. And Marida realizes exactly why all those years ago Morad said he had faith in Kallus. Not because he had faith in an imperial, in Agent Kallus, but because there was the possibility, the seeding that had been done to allow the growth of Alexsandr Kallus. She's watched along side Morad, how Kallus has changed, had put work into himself and scrapped to be better, to do better. And there's a new sense of pride she has.

Morad told her years ago and he was fucking right.

I'm still undecided about quite a bit of Ezra and the whales and everyone's reaction. But I can't tell you, uhm, my condolences 💙

( i will discuss this with mabel's mun to get an exact amount of time. ) but he's been here long enough to understand that he doesn't exactly belong there. what is your character's job? - he's a college student at the moment, studying archaelogy, but also has a conspiracy podcast that he runs entirely himself. because.. he's dipper pines. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - it's been awhile since the events in gravity falls, but dipper still thinks about it constantly even in his later age. he pines ( heh ) honestly to go back and be with his gruncle stan + the wonders of that town. it just felt like that was where he always belonged. though dipper does have some residual night terrors from what happened there, including the deal with bill, and he has to try to work through it while in dc. has any magic affected your character? - not directly affected, but it has made dipper's curious nature come out once more. another mystery for him to solve.

how long has your character been here? - a little bit over a week. he's adjusted quickly though. what is your character's job? - jesse is working as a mercenary, basically a gun for hire, since that is what he was doing in his past life so he stuck with what he knew. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - if you aren't familiar with overwatch lore, i won't try to bore you too much with it - but jesse is coming straight from a time after overwatch, and his division blacwatch, has fallen. he was working as a vigilante in the world - basically doing anything for money even killing, because his name means something. has any magic affected your character? - not particularly.

how long has your character been here? - roughly about a month. what is your character's job? - waitress at a waffle house. where has your character been pulled from in their fandom? - eleven had just been returned to her friends, the one people that were her family, before getting ripped tot his time. she doesn't remember any of them properly except that she knows that there are people who are looking for her somewhere. but she remembers bits and pieces of what happened to her. just more confused than anything. has any magic affected your character? - she still has her powers and is just trying to figure out how to use them without blowing up stuff which she has, many times before. though it does make her powerful when she's a little clueless.

Ahhhh thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to compile and write this post! You really have given me extra motivation to finish my post!

Once again.....lets shake hands over tragic love stories with bittersweet endings.... also I added some thoughts below, the tags just weren't enough!

You really started off strong with the tragedy right away, didn't you?? Ahh.... this is so sad, and every line just ADDED more elements to the sadness ;-; It makes you wonder WHY that sacrifice was necessary... poor Ana, the reward for her unwavering love was this... it's so sad! And after all that grief, Manole gets imprisoned... you guys really know how to do tragedy :') Reading this really broke my heart. What a start! But you know... I swear I've heard of a legend like this, but I didn't know where it was from, so it really is a famous one! Now I finally know... I also looked up pics of the monastery, and it looks beautiful.... knowing the legend behind it makes it a very tragic beauty ;;

ok ok as soon as I saw this I thought "oop royalty gossip~~ eue" oh no that joke made me snort and I was drinking my coffee sadsfger TERRIBLE. sdfg he stabbed him with a dagger and the sultan was still interested, clearly Radu was VERY handsome/shot But this is really interesting! You can never really know with historical figures, especially when there's propaganda in the mix, and who knows, even if it started off on the wrong foot maybe the poetry got through to him in the end? oh! I see some Pedro and Inês vibes here 👀 Oh this one might be my favourite yet... Vlad III is shaping up to be a very interesting figure, I shamefully only knew about the impaling thing, but the story of his brother and now Katharina... ahhh this is so lovely and so sad. You can tell he really loved her, and how kind of her to ask him to spare those who'd done that to her... And he did it! I mean, that shows you how much he esteemed her. The part about her never talking about after his death.... I'm not crying, shut up, you can't prove it!!! >:'I

ok ok I LOVE literary figures and their scandalous soap opera lives.... also is it just me or were 19th century literary personalities in particular more dramatic than others?? These tormented writers and their moods... (ok I just googled them and wow young Mihai was quite handsome wasn't he 👀👀) also not me googling Caragiale to make sure Eminescu DIDN'T kill him asdsf walking around with a gun in his pocket..... yep I can totally see that. Wow, just from your summary I can tell there's a LOT with these two, reality truly is much more extra than fiction. And ah, ofc... the "more bitter than bittersweet" end... it's so sad, but isn't it so fitting for them?

and this one really drives home the "reality is stranger than fiction" point! Imagine finding out about a fictionalised version of your romance over forty years later! I only got to skim a little about them so far, but they sound like two very interesting people in their own right. I will definitely read their stories together once I can get my hands on them :) It sounds like it will be a very interesting contrast.

Once again, thank you SO much for writing this post. I know how hard it can be to even just pick the stories, let alone trying to summarise them. I think what stories become engraved in the national/popular conscience really tells you a lot about a place and people, and I found this compilation extremely interesting (I use that word a lot, but nothing else describes it as well. It was super interesting!)

One month ago (I believe, but refuse to believe all the same (ಢ_ಢ), I learned about the legend of the almond tree blossom while reading José Saramago’s Journey to Portugal. 

After sharing my enthusiasm for Portuguese love stories with @reallunargift (who illustrated so beautifully the story of Inês de Castro and Dom Pedro), I asked her if there are any other famous Portuguese love stories that I should know about. 

She kindly promised that she’d make a post about them and then I promised to compile some famous Romanian love stories myself~ So, as promised, here are five Romanian love stories that came to my mind. Please don’t expect any happy endings ahead. You’ve been warned…

1. The Legend of the Brick Mason Manole 

This is one of our most famous legends, if not the most famous. Every child in Romania grows up learning about it. Some of us have even visited the Curtea de Argeș Monastery (the setting of the legend) on school trips.
