This fandom is so nit-picky that I’ve seen more criticism on every little thing about wottg (a book that came out 2 days ago) than people saying things they liked about it
Edit: someone has already gotten mad so I repeat this is a joke and not that deep❤️

My elden ring close confidant/lover Mohg hc is that he is actually…kind of shy. Like yes he has that bombastic way of presentation and exudes confidence, and besides his brother he does look stacked in the self love department. but in private, if he does grace you with a permit into his personal space, you would find he is actually the silent listener type and much more attentive than people give him credit. I like to think that outside of his totally scripted welcome speech he is not very talkative. And it’s odd because he is not exactly scared to spoil anyone, but there is a fine difference between verbalizing that you like someone and giving a 1000000 gifts to compensate ya know? Confident until he sees someone he can’t risk losing within his vicinity.
I also think it would be funny to imagine him as your local prude. Killing and cult leading? Sure. Dressing everyday like you are trying to outshine the groom at his own wedding? That’s his type of timing! Exposing 2 centimeters of skin? What is this??? A WHOREHOUSE? ABSOLUTELY not!
Oddly enough I hc he shares this quality with his twin Morgott, but they diverge at comfort level. Morgott hc he is naturally talkative, and if you manage to pierce through his 500000 layers of self loathing, depression, distrust and bear through an additional onslaught of self deprecation jokes, he will eventually open up and converse with you like an old friend/couple.
But Mohg? He is just naturally, not talkative. So insert him creepily staring at you from the foot of your bed like a sleep paralysis demon. But its okay because he has a diamond wardrobe ready for you next morning!

actually i wanna expand on this a little (i say, with no visible lead up):
emmrich, to a rook not from the mourn watch, literally says that all necromancers are mortalitasi, but not all mortalitasi are part of the mourn watch, when they ask him about it and the difference between them. he's absolutely happy to clarify because it's his mission to demystify necromancy and make it less scary to the people he's going to be working with, and it's his special interest. he'll info dump all day long about it.
what you gotta understand here is that the necropolis is this huge, functioning city of the dead, yes, that employs a lot of people. not just necromancers, they've got guards and groundskeepers and shop keepers and a slew of other folks that do different jobs, a lot of which don't require magic and that magic isn't in the skillset of the people working them. i imagine the ratio of mages to non-mages is very small, actually; it's just that the majority of the people we meet from the mourn watch and in the necropolis directly are mages.
basically: not every mourn watch member is a mage, there's other roles to fill and those undoubtedly outnumber the necromancers.
running that place has got to be expensive. like lucanis has a banter with emmrich where they talk about how it's probably the biggest money draw and driving force behind the nevarran economy, because i imagine you have to be able to afford to be buried there, you have to, like any burial ground, purchase your plot. who knows how big the necropolis actually is - it's got a bit of a tardis feel to it, maybe it's bigger on the inside and it's pulling a thing like hank pym's infinite mansion and just expands as needed - but i imagine real estate there comes at a premium. emmrich wasn't able to get his own parents buried there until he'd made full watcher, after all, and i imagine he had the disposable income to have them exhumed, moved, and re-interred in the gardens. with all the appropriate ritual around it.
so, the crux of it, tho, is that the mourn watch itself...i don't think you can say it's a political entity, in and of itself. there's one thing to be up to your ass in the machinations of the nobility, and there's another to be aware of who not to piss off, and what to be aware of to keep your organization functioning. knowing the court mortalitasi and their corpse whisperer are puppeting king markus around and not saying anything because it'll look bad on everyone involved in necromancy - an already villified art outside of their borders - even if they have nothing to do with it.
and the money thing: they need that noble gold to keep themselves going. it's just a fact of life, guys, it's shitty, but they have to take in money and donations from the nobility to pay people, for upkeep on the necropolis itself, to buy supplies they need, the list goes on, organizations like theirs don't run on a budget of five bucks and good will. rook was a casualty (if a member of the mourn watch) of a tough decision, because they pissed off nobles that donate much needed money. but i don't think it was so much as kicking them out forever and ever, actually, but more to get them out of sight, out of mind for a time until the heat was off of them and the next thing to piss off the gentry made them forget about it.
rook was always going to be able to come back home at some point, is what i'm saying, they're the crypt baby. they just had to be removed from sight for a little while so the heat could die down.
i have, like, a whole other thing about the circles in nevarra - how sure i'm willing to bet money the smaller circles in bumfuck nowhere were as shitty as elsewhere to a degree (though to me - the way i've read it - it seems the mages elsewhere freaked out during the rebellions because they were afraid the people of the villages and such were going to come for them, not that they were necessarily directly involved but that's a whole ass thing if you side with the templars over the mages in dai, which is also an entire other thing). and how if the mourn watch were a purely political entity someone like emmrich - an orphan, from a poor background, taken in as a ward of the mourn watch itself - would probably never have ended up where he is, with actual status and wealth, because he is of a common origin and didn't have a dime to his name starting out.
point is: tacitly keeping your mouth shut about the king being undead to keep hundreds of people employed and not embarrass your whole ass country on a world stage isn't great (i'm american, ask me how that feels right now lmao), but it's a necessary evil when you're essentially a publicly funded university and funeral home if you want to stay a publicly funded university and funeral home.

// Happy 8th Anniversary to FFXV! ;_; I don't care how hated it is. 15 was my introduction to the Final Fantasy series, and remains my favorite even after I've played others. After all, the other games don't have Ignis Stupeo Scientia, so... :)

FFXIV 30 Day Writing Challenge Day 9: Lend An Ear
Lend An Ear: Offer aid in listening
Tumblr media
Silence.
Absolute focus.
Two figures. One larger and one smaller.
The pair sat by a crystalline pond, the rays of a rising sun reflecting a kaleidoscope of colors off of small ripples on the glass surface. The larger figure, a miqo’te man with a serious face crouched down, holding a fishing rod. The small figure beside him, a child with leporine features, twisted his ears around as they scanned the surface of the water.
Neither moved. Neither spoke, Until the little one pointed to the left, an ear matching the direction of their finger. They had heard it. The subtle splash of their sought after quarry: Fish.
“That way, baba!”
Excited whisper as the child stared with a bright smile. A hand patted the top of their head, a smile and grateful nod coming from the miqo’te man. He stood, getting the pole ready to cast out. The little one wiggled the tiny tuft of a tail they had, tapping their little feet excitedly. But, before the line was even airborne, a loud voice sounded, causing both figures near the water to flinch.
“E’WYN! E’MAL! IF I FIND YOU BY THE POND I SWEAR–” E’mal, the little rabbit-eared child, looked at E’wyn with wide eyes.
“Baba…I think mumma is mad…”
E’wyn quirked a brow, offering a nervous smile to his son. He set the pole down on the bank, using his hands to sign out words to his child.
“We’d better get back. I think it’s best we don’t find out what she’ll do if she comes down here.”
E’mal giggled at his father, jumping onto his back to hitch a ride to the little campsite they’d set up. This morning’s fishing was a bust, but E’mal would always be willing to lend an ear to help his baba.

OK I HAVE THOUGHTS, marvel thoughts (no one is surprised),
kira is the daughter of lilith and the supposed sister of the hunter. unlike her sibling, however, she wasn't saved by sara and instead whisked away by the newly - turned lilith to be housed in the temple of chthon which is where she got her connection to chaos magic in the first place, part of lilith's debt to be paid to the elder god. as an infant, she was locked away in a stasis within the temple where she couldn't age as she was being made into a vessel for chthon. little baby kira was supposedly lost when the temple was destroyed in the battle between the hunter and their mother.
unlike the hunter, lilith wants to take kira back because she has plans for her, and she hadn't rebelled against her during the era of the first midnight suns because..... kira was a baby. literally didn't age in that cocoon of hers. 300 year old baby.
fast forward to several centuries later in the modern age wherein the ruins of the temple was found by the hand in search for a branch of ancient magic in their pursuit of immortality. that's where they found baby kira and brought her back to their compound in japan where they began their experiments on her, raising her as a weapon and she was considered a mutant with the presence of the gene on her. originally believed to just be energy manipulation + energy construct conjuration until the yokohama incident wherein her chaos magic first manifested as a kid.
when they brought her back to their headquarters in new york to expedite their plans regarding her, kira was fifteen and escaped (again lol their security sucks) and after causing a bit of a scene in new york, she ran with some criminal groups for a while to get by, before eventually she made her way up to xavier's herself because she had her little brother with her: two year old yuuichiro who was also an experiment of the hand that she had brought with her. that's how she ends up staying and later on became a part of the x-men.
after finishing university and all that years later (she's very smart, she graduated top of her class), kira started working in the atlas foundation as an archivist + archaeologist though her public day job is a lawyer for atlas law.
only when the tides of lilith's awakening causes the true depths of kira's magic to awaken, causing fluctuations in her power suddenly becoming stronger and nightmares begin to plague her, does sara finally come to find her, revealing the truth of her origins. she eventually leaves the x-men to go back to the abbey and help the caretaker in putting together the midnight suns, which kira now leads.
