Actually going insane over the implications of Jason asking Dick to be the Robin to his Batman in Battle for the Cowl.

Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it's a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.

But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he's not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He's asking Dick to be his Robin.

And they both know exactly what Jason means: "Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. "

He's saying "Be 'Robin'; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn't clipped my wings."

He's saying "I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don't have to be. If Batman is Gotham's curse, Robin has always been its blessing. I will be the brutal punishment to our world, and I am asking you to be its incandescent gift."

He's saying, "Be for me, what we were for Him. Be my anchor, my comfort, my hope. Remind me what it's all for, why it's all worth it. And remind yourself as well."

He's saying "Be 'Robin' again--for both of our sakes."

I think that while Ford and Mabel are incredibly similar in many ways, there's one way that they're completely different in.

And it's their relationship with their twin.

Ford, due to his upbringing and the pressure he had on him for being intelligent and the bullying he'd received growing up. Had wanted to make something of himself, an identity that the world would remember. And in this desperate attempt to live up to expectations and wanting to prove the world wrong about him, had forgotten the important thing that truly mattered.

He'd forgotten about Stanley. His best friend and twin who's always been in his corner. Ford had gotten so lost in his head and feelings that he'd become blinded to what he had. Thus in a way taken Stanley for granted till it nearly cost Ford said brother. And because of his and his brother's upbringing, he didn't even consider to talk to Stanley or communicate with him about his feelings.

Mabel on the other hand is the complete opposite.

Mabel, unlike her Gruncle Ford, is more open to communication. She's not one to shy away from her feelings, nor from telling Dipper how she feels. While Mabel can be eccentric and can get lost in her excitement, she also knows that Dipper's in her corner. Despite everything, even when she gets annoyed with her twin, Mabel never truly loses sight of him. She never truly forgets what, or rather who's important. For Mabel the world in the end doesn't matter, nor what it thinks of her.

It's what Dipper thinks about her that matters to her. It's his opinion and feelings that she holds dearly. In a way the world can rot, as long as Dipper's there by her side. Enjoying the day together and facing life together. Mabel never forgets her best friend, nor does she truly lose sight of him. And because of her and Dipper's upbringing, she communicates with him easily. It's not something that's bad, but rather needed.

Ford and Mabel are two sides of the same coin, but their backgrounds and upbringings helped turn them into the people they currently are. One lost sight of what was truly important at the end of the day, while the other never did.

It's why despite everything, Mabel and Dipper's relationship remains so strong while for a long, long time Ford and Stan's relationship was strained. Because of these differences in their lives and own experiences. And why it's so satisfying when Ford finally remembers what's truly important in the end. Because it comes full circle for the sweater twins. Because they finally mirror one another. It's honestly intriguing and fascinating when you think about it.

I have been so cooked for this man lately that I need to talk about him— I genuinely think that with a ADHD/autism/AuDHD partner Ford takes notes on your stims and quirks, even before any serious relationship. Just little things like “waves hands when excited :)” and “prefers baggy sweaters” just like a little way of understanding you better 🥺💖

"Aaaahhhhh oh myy-" the rest of what you were saying was incomprehensible because the words slurred together in an excited squeal. A gleeful expression upon your face, you waved and shook your hands in front of your body, then pressed them over your mouth, to stifle another squeal.

Ford smiled to himself as he watched you from the other side of the room, where he propped his notebook open to scribble something down.

"Heeyyyyy Grunkle Ford, watcha got there?" Mabel's voice rang out right beside him.

He snapped the book shut and whipped his head around.

"Mabel!"

"Waves hands when excited." she cited what she had just read, "Were you talking about-"

"No, I was certainly not!" Ford said, while his cheeks started to turn a deep red colour.

"Are you suuuure? Because to me it looks like you diiiid." she said, a cheeky grin on her face and dragging some of the vowels.

"You are mistaken, dear child. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do." he excused himself and stood up, holding the notebook close to him.

Without letting her get another word in, he moved past her and made his way into his study.

There, he propped open the notebook to the page he'd just added a new note onto.

- likes to hum when no one is around - seems to prefer more loose fitting clothes. possibly because the don't restrict movement as much - will subconsciously play and fidget with any jewellery they're wearing - sorts and eats their food in a particular order - would rather not eat at all than something not appealing - skin irritating clothing causes great discomfort. remove tags!! - wants to talk but holds back. encouraging them has positive effect - avoids eye contact but will look at faces when the person isn't looking at them - do not touch without warning and do not force contact! expressed great discomfort to me after being forced to physical contact by someone else - repeating phrases and noises (quite endearing) - easily startled by sudden and loud noises, as well as irritated by high pitched ones, almost too quiet to hear - shows behaviours similar to felines. has stated that they would be delighted to posses the ability to purr (he would be delighted too)

Ford smiled as he looked up and leaned back. He really hoped Mabel hadn't seen too much, otherwise she might figure out how interested in you he really was. And we wasn't sure if he was ready for that.

For now he would be very much content continuing to dreamily gaze over at you and notice all the little things, so he could understand you better.

Maybe one day he could work up the courage to ask you out.
