Eddie huffs out a laugh, feeling his face growing more flush. Steve smiles and then turns around. As Eddie watches him walk to the bathroom, he thinks about how much he missed him this past week—how perfect today ended up being.

Wow I finally updated my fic after.....6 months of crazy life and brain rot and writers block and then kicking myself for putting 2, count em, 2 action scenes in one chapter?!?!? Who do I think I am???

In any case, Diego gets some sense knocked into him (literally), Luther saved me from a plot hole (thank you), and Klaus saves the day. What more can you ask for?!?!

Chapter 5: Dream A Little Dream Of Me

"I love you so much, Steve. It's kind of stupid how hard I've fallen for you," Eddie whispers in a breathless voice as Steve begins to kiss down the length of his neck. "I know it might be too soon, but —"

Steve cuts him off with another kiss, showing Eddie that it's not too soon, that he's not stupid for falling. Eddie is perfect. Steve is the one who took too long to get it.

He can't put it into words, not yet. Not when it's all so new, the peaceful, settled feeling in his chest still so tentative. But he can show it. Eddie has always been the one to put himself out there, the one to move their relationship forward. But now that Steve is finally on the same page, he wants to show Eddie how much he wants this, wants them, too. Wants to show that he’s ready to take the lead for once.

Quite literally, in fact, as he begins to slowly walk them backwards, his mouth never leaving Eddie's. That is, until Eddie's knees hit the mattress and he flops down on it with a loud, surprised oomph that brings a laugh out of Steve. He missed this, missed laughing with Eddie and having him smile up at Steve, obviously amused and endeared in equal measure.

"I missed seeing you happy." Eddie echoes Steve's thoughts, frighteningly in tune with what's going through his head, and his chest aches at the words. He knows he hurt Eddie and he's so sorry for making him feel like he couldn’t make Steve happy.

"Eddie, I'm —”

Before he can even begin to apologize - again - Eddie sits up and wraps his arms around Steve, pulling him close so he can rest his cheek against Steve's stomach. "Don't. You're here now. That's all that matters. All I ever wanted was to have you with me."

A lump forms in Steve's throat, making it impossible to say anything, so he just buries his hands in Eddie's hair and lets himself be held by strong and loving arms.

He doesn't know how long they stay like that, Eddie sitting on the bed, his arms wrapped around Steve's waist and his head resting on Steve's stomach as Steve gently runs a finger through his unruly curls. But at some point, Steve feels lips brushing gently along the low-riding waistband of his sweatpants, and he feels himself smiling at nothing in particular.

"Are you having fun down there without me?" He asks Eddie cheekily, earning a playful nip at the soft skin just below his belly button.

He can hear the grin in Eddie's voice as he replies, "Wouldn't dream of it, sweetheart." Then he presses his face against where Steve is still more than half hard and adds, "Besides, it feels like you're having some fun at least."

It feels like something has changed between them, adding a new weight to the way they playfully tease and flirt. Steve decides to roll with it, to take a page from Eddie's book and follow his instincts. His hand in Eddie's hair tightens, gripping the strands and forcing Eddie to look up at him. Eddie does, a moan falling from his lips, his eyes wide and shining as they lock with Steve's.

"What if I want more than some fun?" Steve asks, tugging at Eddie's hair, eliciting another soft moan.

Eddie's hands move away from Steve's waist and reach up to his chest, running his fingers reverently through Steve's chest hair. He sighs at the feel of the fine hair under his fingertips and Steve chuckles fondly at his boyfriend's apparent obsession with his chest.

"Then I'll give you anything you want, Stevie."

Judging from these panels, would it mean that there's no other yorishima exorcist that's still alive (since natori said that the yorishima family "was once" a big name, past tense) in the canon timeline, and that the yorishima we know probably ended his family's exorcism business for good by retiring himself? If so, was the reason tied to the youkai living in his left arm, or is there another cause? And when exactly did he retire— was it before or during seiji and shuuichi's high school days, which was why his left arm appeared with the thick bandages when he gave them the loquats in the anime, but he still lived in the estate during that time, or was it after the two became legal adults, which lined up somewhat with him moving into his forest home, abandoning his family estate in favor of living in isolation?

And, speaking of retirement, I wonder if we'll ever know why midorikawa told us that the takis were "famous" (which presumedly meant they were strong enough to be well-known) as occult diviners, since tooru herself only ever mentioned what their previous family business entails, and never about their status in the exorcism community? We don't really need this extra bit if she wanted to further establish how tooru has an aptitude for spell-casting, either. Again, there's another "strong" family (whose members are still alive in canon) that went into retirement, but did the taki family lost their power because the ability to see (if they were needed for diviners) disappeared for at least the last three generations (if we assumed that tooru and isamu's parents couldn't see youkai too), or was it due to another reason? How close was shinichiro (tooru and isamu's grandpa) to the matobas that even the current clan head came to pay his respects during his sixth death anniversary; was his relationship with seiji's father strictly resolved around exorcism business, or was anything else involved? Does tooru herself doesn't fully understand the prowess her family once had, hence why seiji was the one who told takashi (and us readers) about it? What would this tiny bit of lore mean for tooru with it revealed this late into the manga, when tooru herself only talked sparsely about her ancestors in previous chapters?
