I love when I love my original characters so much I make AUs for them...
Inspired by too many fics about "the detective goes undercover in the mob/mafia".... I wanted to make an AU for "a mafia guy (Brent in this case) going undercover at the police station (where he works in canon)". The AU then spawned Brent's cousins, Caspian (taller guy) and Atticus (the bundle of sunshine).
In the canon-verse, Right and Luca's plots are coexistent which means that in canon, when Luca visits a restaurant he thinks is sketchy and probably a cover for shady dealings, that's canon for Right's plot, too. So in the AU, I have it owned by Brent's aunt while her kids Caspian and Atticus basically run it. There are other employees but it's mostly them in charge. So that's why Atticus is pestering Brent to bring a cop at the bottom.

Gay wrongs tournament, round one of the losers bracket
Propaganda:
For Kinn and Porsche:
First of all, Mafia prince meets poor boy whom he makes his bodyguard. They are canonically engaged. Some might say they're not that bad, but not only have both killed people without hesitation, they went into scenarios ON PURPOSE knowing what the end result will be. By the end of it all, power couple to the skies but also 2 unrelenting Mafia heads who can and will kill you if you so much as look at their partner wrong.
look the gun tango scene, when they're in the middle of an attempted coup, and they spin around while holding each other and shooting people, is the most iconic thing ever
For Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu:
you've got the founder of the fantasy ancient Chinese CIA and the leader of what is essentially the mafia and then they're soulmates and in love. they're both willing to kill anyone who dares hurt the other while also just wanting a soft domestic life together
Zhou Zishu is an assassin and spymaster who put the current Emperor on the throne, and then quit his job by faking his death (kinda, hes still dying but not as fast as he was supposed to). Had done A Lot on his old job, including murdering children (more than one, and at least one of them in a way I can't even describe without several trigger warnings), exterminating whole families, war crimes (and i dont mean this in a buzzword way, i mean "organized a public execution of foreign diplomats during war time")… btw he doesn't feel particularly bad about any of this, because he believes it was necessary. Like he wouldn't do it for fun, but he thinks the ends (putting a good Emperor on the throne) justified the means (all of the atrocities). As a retiree, he definitely cut down on the amount of morally reprehensible murder, but not murder in general. He still routinely kills ppl, he just doesn't go out of his way to kill more. Wen Kexing, meanwhile, is the Ghost Valley Master - Ghost Valley being a place where the worst of criminals are exiled. Even in such a place, he has reputation as a complete lunatic, owed partially to the fact that he either skinned a man or fed him his own flesh or both at one point, and partially to him having a rule where he would kill anyone who came closer than 3 meters to him. But in truth, everything he'd done was to survive the Ghost Valley and eventually take revenge for his parents, who were brutally murdered when he was only nine. By the start of the novel's timeline, he put his plan in motion - the plan that would drown jianghu in blood, but also deliver poetic justice to all responsible for his parents' deaths, as well as all who'd commit the same crime given the chance. And these two men, these two murderers and schemers, meet - and unexpectedly, find in each other the person who /understands/. The person who is just as ruthless and whose hands are just as bloody, but also the person who knows standing at the top of the world is not worth it, who seeks the same freedom of leaving it all behind, and who is still, underneath it all, a human, with human heart seeking connection. So you have this couple who understand each other with barely a word, and who want the same things - who are so hungry for domesticity and for people they can just goof around with when all their lives they had to measure every step and word - but ALSO where one half a couple is like "i gotta go murder hundreds in revenge" and the other half is like "ok pick you up at 6". (This btw is why I'm submitting novel's iteration of the couple in particular. Show wenzhou with their ridiculous breakups over morality could Never.) Also they were both hiding who they are when they first met, and later flirted about having figured each other out. Finally, I'll leave you my favorite quote that just. perfectly sums up their relationship: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the smell of blood."
You’ve probably already had submissions for them but I’ll add on. One of them founded an assassin’s guild and killed a staggering number of people. His malewife is the leader of a sect of insane murderous outcasts, and he attained his position by proving to be the most crazy and murder happy of them all. Most of the plot involves him wandering around watching his schemes get more people killed. Together they adopt a kid that was only orphaned due to said scheming (oops). They’re terrible and I love them.

Ughhhh if we have a sequel to BEAST, I want to see sm how Beast Aku and Atsushi are doing 😩😩😩😩
Do you have any HCs on how the BEAST characters are doing after the LN's ending?
(it can be sskk or anything! 💕💕
Very funny because I had, in my drafts, a post I wrote back in August that is exactly a collection of thoughts over what I think Beast sskk would be like post-canon. I prematurely took it out for you, please enjoy!! Other sskk-unrelated Beast post canon firm plot points (also coming from posts I have yet to publish) that I have are:
Higuchi is the next Port Mafia boss. Duh. She's fairly more confident in this universe (never met Akutagawa), and took it upon herself to reorganize the pm after Dazai died. The Beast ending, where she's going to ambush the main character in an alley, is meant to serve as introduction for her character as the new mafia boss (when you think about it, Mori too was revealed to be the pm boss in an alley setting, after a seemingly friendly first meeting... ), and as introduction of the Beast equivalent of the main universe Port Mafia arc. I'm a radical Beast movie ending negationist lmao
In the mess that was the Beast aftermath, Gin ran away off city, and so did Kyouka. They end up in the same rural town– but they don't know who the other is. I'm not kidding when I say it's not unlikely that even though both worked for the pm at the same time, there's a good chance they wouldn't have known each other: it's canon that Dazai always kept Gin near him¹, and only his closest assistants would have had the chance to meet her. Finding each other in similar conditions (and possibly even similar lies to cover their own identities), they end up bonding, maybe even open a shop together? Basically, Spy × Family minus the romance where Gin and Kyouka end up living together out of convenience and both of them are completely oblivious to the other's assassin abilities because that's just what they're used to.
Other than that, reaffirming my points about how Atsushi doesn't join the ada, but is an ada ally à la Lucy or Poe; and that Atsushi is the one to die for Akutagawa in their fight against Fukuchi.
¹ “she’s the boss’s personal secretary and spends every waking moment with him”, BSD Beast novel, page 81

Hiiii I'm just sending an ask because they're all different posts (read : I'm lazy) so please don't mind me lol
First and foremost, YOU ARE AMAZING AT EXPRESSING YOUR THOUGHTS AND YOUR ESSAYS ARE ALWAYS SO NUANCED?? SO YOU SAYING THAT WAS A HUGE COMPLIMENT OMG- I love reading your bsd essays so much and it's just now that I realised that they're all your essays abaammw some of the best in the fandom really. I'm always baffled when in the middle of an essay you go "I may not be articulating my thoughts right" or "this is kind of just put together" because girl you're amazing! Never stop writing these please ajajahsbw ALSO! Hearing your little thoughts and feelings pop up in the middle of an essay makes it so endearing to me. Like, that's a whole ass person writing these many words just to express how much they like this show and they're so adorable! (So sorry if that's offensive idk if calling someone adorable is)
Also, completely unrelated lol but this is exactly why I prefer to ask people questions instead of googling! Knowing that the person explaining is a human has their own opinions and hearing their feelings and experiences is so much more better and relatable than reading stuff off a Google website. Also your pfp is the cutest everyone has cute pfps nowadays 😭 anyways yes cute pfp :D
Actually getting to the point now:
1) yes yes Oda and Dazai's relationship is so dear to me I love them sm and I adore seeing Atsushi all caring for his mentor 😭 he's basically Dazai's emotional support cat!! Dazai let the boy in please I'm begging you he can purr probably and it would melt away your stress pls pls (Maybe everyone in the ADA sees Atsushi as their emotional support cat...)
2) Mori is a piece a shit, and you should be allowed to say it. I'm never biased in my writing but I loathe that guy with my very being and the whole people who like Mori thing really got me reconsidering...was *I* the bad guy for not liking a character when I actively liked a character very similar to him? Then I realised, I completely respect and treat equally all the people who don't like/hate Dazai. I don't treat them any different just because they don't like a character. And that's what I should expect too!
There's no post defending Dazai, and yet I still like him because I accept his wrongdoings and want him to keep getting better, like Oda told him to. Yknow, the argument would be MUCH different if Dazai was a woman and not a man, imagine bashing someone for liking a teen girl and not liking the guy who groomed her to be his heir. Yeah, really puts things into perspective. I'm not sexist, I treat (respectful) men and women equally, but Mori is just. No.
3) I haven't see it before in any canon source material but I feel like it's definitely true. It's clear that Dazai WANTS to want to keep living, but he can't bring himself to want it because of all the pain he's endured. He literally said in dark era that the reason he joined the mafia was to try and seek meaning in life by being close to death and violence. It's ironic, Dazai feels the most alive when he's about to LOSE that privilege. It could also mean that Dazai only realises the "value" in living when he's about to lose it. Perhaps he thinks of things he could've done, things he'll regret, and that helps him to stop before he actually does it. But in my opinion? I don't think he finds anything of worth in that time. He just convinces himself that he does. This is a personal hc but it's probably likely to be the case.
If you've listened to the song My R, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.(totally recommend btw!).The girl in the song speaks to herself about her woes and the 'other' version of her comforts her telling her about all the things that she DOES have, but by the end of the song, she has lost everything of meaning and she can't comfort the "girl". It is only revealed that the girls she comforted are different versions of HERSELF that she stopped from jumping.
Anyways, in conclusion, SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE THIS BOY A HUG HE DESERVES IT
oh my god oh my god oh my god
i am sat here on the verge of TEARS in my goddamn chuuya cosplay
okay okay give me a second i need to collect myself
you are singlehandedly the SWEETEST person ever im sobbing
literally i cant- thank you so fucking much! you dont understand how much this all means to me WOWOWOWOW <33333333
literally, my brain doesnt let me consume my content positively and so i always think that theyre quite bad or that im the only person who thinks that or that im saying all the wrong things lol
i have so many words and thoughts floating around in my little brain that i just cant find the words for, so thats honestly what those rants are, my delusional 4am thought processes when i deep things too much
and YOU THINK??? genuinely, thank you!!! i love reading people's essays and thoughts, so hearing you say that genuinely just warms my absolute heart <3
and yes yes i do get quite sidetracked very often and start just rambling and adding my own personal twists- genuinely i thought that was annoying for people to read, but you're just putting a big smile on my face right now :) and PLS DONT THINK CALLING ME ADORABLE IS OFFENSIVE I LITERALLY GIGGLED READING THAT SHIT FR. <333
i like to add personal experiences and thoughts into it, just to get my point across, put it into an irl perspective and let people also relate and see what im getting at. (unfortunately) i have the same experiences as most of these characters, and so that is why they're so dear to me and why i get very defensive and passionate writing about them!
and yes! getting your answers and stuff from irl people instead of strange irrelevant responses is much more preferred lol. it's more raw and in depth and definitely a lot more personal! and thank you so much!!! it's genuinely one of my favourite dazai panels istg hes such a pretty mf
1.) i love love LOVE their dynamic, i think it's one of my favourites in the show along with skk and ranpo and yosano. it really fucking hits hard, as all family dynamics do with me fr, idk what it is about them, they just get me. and yes!!! i love when atsushi shows that he cares for dazai it MAKES ME FEEL NICE <3 and that's so real oh my god hes a tiger please PLEASE he can fucking PURR (there was a tumblr post i saw, i can try and find it but it made me actually cry laughing)
Tumblr media
THIS ONE i was fucking howling but yes! their relationship is also one that really really gets to me! and yes, he is just the ada's support cat, it's canon, i'm ranpo's sweets
2.) thank you thank you THANK YOU mori is an actual degenerate human being. he's not made to be liked or appreciated or revered, it's just fucking AEUGH. i'm not going to demonise the people who enjoy him as a character, but seriously, it's a big red flag to overlook the canon pedophilia. i saw someone make a defense against him saying "yes, but he's never actually touched kids, so that doesn't mean anything" SORRY? they also went on to say that he "restrains himself" from having pedophilic thoughts with elise, and basically praised him for that. needless to say, it got me feeling fucking icky. and yes! i feel exactly the same. i always think that "oh, maybe i'm the awful one for not liking him? am i bad?" even though, no, i'm perfectly fine thinking that way and i am allowed to think that way. and exactly again! dazai is my favourite character, but i recognise his flaws and his mistakes and don't forgive them. but he's actively trying to "be a better person" (i say this in quotation marks because dazai sees everything he does as inevitably pointless, but still wishes to uphold oda's dying words. i am definitely going to make a post about this in the near future lol) and i dont make my analyses biased towards him, and i stay on neutral ground UNLESS personal opinion comes up, to which i then say that it's my personal opinion, not fact, and that it's anybody's choice to think however they want. if somebody doesn't like dazai; okay! i'm interested in talking with them, and we can both talk about things we're very passionate about and have healthy conversations! unlike some people i have seen on reddit, goddamn. but no, we're not the bad people for hating that knobhead fr. we should all treat and be treated the same as any other fan in the fandom and get along, and i wish we could ALL do that in non-toxic ways. 99% of this fandom are the loveliest people ever, but that 1% just needs to get a grip like omg. we should treat others how we want to be treated, regardless of who favours what ship and who likes what character. and real!!! if gender roles were reversed for dazai, this would be much more problematic, and that's upsetting! dw dw, i dont think its sexist, i think its putting things into perspective bc, either way, its shitty how he was treated. i fucking hate mori. whenever i see people defending him to like, the bone, like not getting into a decent discussion and being civil but instead bashing everyone who says otherwise and completely overlooking the abuse, manipulation, grooming, pedophilia and just him as a sick and twisted person in general, it just really irks me. as someone who has in fact had to deal with separate strands of abuse including many fucking counts of sexual abuse and pedophilia, it disgusts me seeing people overlooking it and it makes me feel fucking sick. that shit is not just something to be overlooked because of the fact that you enjoy mori as a character, he's not supposed to be a character that's consumed positively, he's a bad guy. a lot of characters in bsd are morally grey, but mori is just fucking morally black. he's downright evil.
(TW for suicide and self harm next btw :) )
3.) yes yes yessss!!! again, bringing personal stuff into it, i deal heavily with the whole topic of suicide and self harm. i've attempted twice and still deal with thoughts of it every single day, as well as self harm. so, this is one of my main reasons of dazai being my absolute favourite character, because of the representation and actual presentation of these topics. at first, we're shown them in a whimsical and whacky way, then it gets so much darker once we get into the dark era. it's a complete tonal shift, and it really sets in the gravity of the situation for him. and, as you said, he wants to have that ability to want to keep going and living, and he wants to be able to put the effort in, but he can't/ he physically cannot. as much as he would want to try, he can't. and yes, when he said that it fucking BROKE me fr. just at the chance that he's not able to keep living on anymore as a human is the one thing that keeps him alive, i fucking love asagiri's writing, it's so complex and beautiful. and its so so so real!!! youre literally right idc lmao. youve so eloquently said it im crying, youre putting all my thoughts into words <3
and yes!!! i have listened to the song, i absolutely LOVE it! and i never fail to think of dazai whenever i listen to it </3 and, i also think it's very very much like dazai, because of the multiple different versions we see of him too. chuuya hasn't exactly changed much, but he has gone through some very very complex and deep character developments, such as in fifteen and stormbringer. hes a lot more "tame" and respectful now, and a lot more mature. (except with dazai lmao) aku, we see he's changed slightly thanks to atsushi, but still no major character fucking flip arounds. all these characters we've watched slowly become better and more complex throughout the series. dazai? he just does 180s every single fucking year. hes different at 14 and 15 than he is at 18. hes different at 18 than he is at 20-22. and the different faces he puts on for each and every person, all his masks that he has. there's much variety to dazai; you never know what you'll get. there's so many different sides to him, because he doesn't know who he is. as odasaku saw him, "a lost child crying out". no matter the age, no matter the state, dazai is always going to be harbouring that broken child with him, trying to hide it and build up walls around it, because the only time he's ever shown it, he's gotten hurt or betrayed and lost some key figures in his life. trust issues much?
anyways i am sorry i am sorry i rambled too much lmao
in conclusion, YES, GIVE HIM A FUCKING HUG OH MY GOD PLEASE I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO HUG HIM PLS GOD LET ATSUSHI GIVE HIM A BIG HUG WHEN HE COMES OUT OF MEURSAULT I SWEAR-
thank you so so so SO much for your kind words!!! sweetest person EVER fr <333333
thank you my love!!! /p have a lovely day/night :) <3

be specific when requesting! it’s fine if it’s long ૮₍ • ᴥ • ₎ა i will read everything. ideas help me with writers block!
i'm restructuring requests to be more of inspo/ideas rather than specific things to write bc honestly i've noticed that it takes me a couple months on average to finish a request, which can be a let down to the requester T~T requests will typically be worked on when i get the inspiration to write them, just so i can ensure i'm writing them to the best of my ability
tldr: a request may/may not be fulfilled based on how inspired/motivated i am; there isn't a specific timeline for completing requests. apologies for potential delays, but feel free to ask abt your request(s)!

What are your personal Top Ten YGO AUs? This 110% includes AUs you came up with yourself!
ouo YGO AUs? WHY, anon… that’s a good question. I rarely go down the path of AUs, after all, since my love is so distinctly with the dynamic between Atem and Yuugi (and the rest of the crew) that is born out of the circumstances of canon.  So, I write and read few aus… unless you include anything that branches off from canon. Then #1 is 100% ‘Atem stays/Atem come back’ aus, full stop. Followed closely by ‘Ancient Egyptian Setting/Atem in life’ aus as #2.
Beyond that… I probably couldn’t number things. xD As I said, not too many I follow, and the few I do could probably be grouped under one AU term. But, I will give a few examples:
Mystical Creatures AUs, for sure. They just tickle my funny bone, and they also have at least a potential to explain the look similarities between Atem and Yuugi without the need for reincarnation or fate or family relation or just straight up ignoring it. And it’s just a fun generic liking to me, especially if the creature is water-based. Likely why I would put Tales from Domino Bay by @preciousorgel and Jolly Sailor Bold by @kudalyn on the short list of favs, besides the fact that they’re very well-written. I’d like to tackle this au area myself sometime, and have a detailed story idea, but it will have to wait a while, and I’d probably revise it to remove a lot of the adult elements before writing… But, beyond the water creature/merman stuff, would Witcher by @tunafax fall under this category? Well, I’m making the list, so yes. Witcher, too.
But like I said, Ancient Egyptian stuff. I love that (3+ thousand year) period of history and have read about it in the generic sense since I was… eight? Probably younger. I just remember grabbing all of the Cleopatra and Tutankhamen and general Egypt books at the library as a baby grade schooler, and building up from there in a low key way until today, with me listening to a few lecture series and a number of books on the subject in the last few years. That was definitely one of the original draws to YuGiOh for me, and I love stories set in that time. And particularly, I’ve come to love marrying YGO to the historical facts I’ve learned over the twenty-five some odd years… even if doing so leads to some awkwardness of facts. But anyways, that was definitely one of the big reasons I came up with Gambling With Destiny and I will always hold that version as a fav, even unfinished, purely because it’s my own vision and because of all of the time I poured into imagining it. But there are some wonderful stories out there, unfinished or otherwise, like It’s Only Forever by Trinity Destler, Seeking Guidance by @esamastation and Immortal Game by @tunafax,  and I’d happily recommend any of them.
And again, I don’t generally follow ‘modern’ aus that remove or change the facts about our boys and who they are and what they do. I also tend to find Atem and Yuugi are the most ‘out of character’ in modern aus, and while I certainly respect the premise that a different life would mean different demeanors and different dynamics, modern aus usually take this so far that I often see the boys as completely original and unrelated characters to the two I know and love. There are some exceptions to the rules, though, usually tied to an interesting premise, like Atem and Yuugi meeting over a dating site like in Frustrations by Usagi_Atemu_Tom, or being dark and edgy and tied up in the mafia world like in Blood on the Leaves by @hikariandyamiblog, or caught up in a scandalous boss-employee dynamic as in Behind an Office Door by @principalcellist. With stories like these, it doesn’t matter how close or far they are from the canon kids, because they’re well written and intriguing enough for me to disassociate from the ‘ooc’-ness and enjoy a great story for its own sake.
But yes, again, ‘Atem stays/comes back’ aus. All of them. I wrote Reconfiguration specifically to pull canon-compliant These Days We Celebrate into that category because IT’S MY BREAD AND BUTTER and you can find so many good examples of it on this site and the fanfic ones. I could probably make a whole (if short) rec list just for THAT.
Hopefully that answered your question, even if it wasn’t an Top 10. cx

Sapphic, Savvy?
Summary: Sometimes, coming out is harder for some people than others. Kyoko is one of those people.
Warnings: sexual suggestiveness, fears about coming out
~[Kyoko/Fem!Reader]~
(original author’s note, sorry, it’s long––
WOW I LOVE KYOKO, MY GIRLFRIEND!!!! #LetKyokoBeMyWife2k17 i love her!! alright, in all seriousness, if there were a lot of wlw reader-inserts, or even girl/gender neutral fits, i probably would've realized I liked girls a lot sooner. And if there were more gender neutral fics I probably would've realized I'm nonbinary sooner too... haha, well, I hope this helps someone! Or is just entertaining! Either is great, haha! I want more Kyoko/reader fics... I love my gf and I'm pretty sure I've only seen one more Kyoko/reader fic here on Luna....if you write any, send them to me, alright? I love Kyoko so much, she's so good and sweet!!! also, that pun in the title? When i first thought of it I snorted out loud. Like that was a thing I actually did because I thought it was just the best pun ever. I actually snorted. also, Bianchi totally has had same gendered lovers. There is no way she hasn't— i mean, she works in the mafia and there HAS to be some situations where she's needed to be a seductress for a woman. Also my head canon for her is that she's not straight. She's definitely had a girlfriend before, before Reborn probably. She's so iconic, the butch and femme ideal, the best of both worlds.... i love her.... ok, shoutout to GuardianAngel07! not for anything in particular (ok there's always reason, but this is just a casual shout out!!1!) but she's a huge inspiration to me and she's so kind, sweet, and supportive, that I think she deserves a shoutout! She deserves more than one, but this will have to do for now! Thanks for everything~)
–––––––––––––––––––––––––
The peaceful calm of dawn is broken by the rustling of bedsheets and a duvet over a too-small bed. Your mouth stretched wide in a yawn and you roll over to face your beautiful girlfriend. She smiled, cheeks rosy and her long lashes cast even longer shadows over her cherubic face. You smiled. ‘Sasagawa Kyoko,' you mused, ‘My very own goddess.’ She stirred in her sleep- just the smallest bit- but it was enough for you to freeze and wait for her to settle back down again. Through her window, you could see faint sunbeams cover the horizon and you knew you should be getting up soon, or else you both would be late to school. What a bother. “Kyoko-chan,” you whispered, breath soft and warm in the crook of her neck. A hand gently rubbing the side of her ribcage that was accessible from your awkward angle. Kyoko laid comfortably curled up against you with her hands splayed over your stomach and tangled in your hair. Your leg was tossed over her hip and your toes curled when Kyoko hummed, dreaming sweetly. You called for her again and brought a hand up to caress her face, skimming a thumb over her plump lips. “Baby…” She whined in her sleep, a long, airy noise. You bit your lip. A devious, delicious idea comes to mind and you figure you have just enough time to carry through with it before you have to get ready to go to school- or at least you have time to start it. You leaned over and kissed Kyoko’s shoulder, bare from the thin straps of her silky pink slip, and nipped on it delicately. Kyoko’s breath hitched and you grinned. Slowly, you brought your hands up to brush the hair out of her face and to stroke her with. “Honey…” She still didn’t wake up. Honestly, this girl will be the death of you. With a heavy sigh, you went back to your plan of giving her unrelenting, adoring affection until she wakes. You planted soft, ticklish kisses all up her neck and when you got to her jawline you grazed her soft skin with your teeth. Kyoko made another sound in her sleep, though this time, just a little less innocent. She’s just too good. You curled a strand of her hair behind her ear and out of your way for you to breathe hotly, “Princess…” and she giggled. “Ah,” you said, “I knew you were just pretending.” Kyoko rolled over to face you completely, one hand hiked your leg higher up her hip, up to her waist, and the other hand brushed your own flyaways out of your eyes to she could see you better. “Of course I was. I wanted you to wake me up, like Sleeping Beauty!” “But you’re already my princess, Kyo-chan!” Her laughs and the sound of her joy light up the room. A stealthy arm wrapped around her waist to pull her closer. “You know what, baby?” She smiled. “What?” “When I marry you, on our wedding night, I just can’t wait to get into bed with you. Wait—I-I mean,” You stutter, not at all meaning to make an innuendo but making the best of it, “I already have you in my bed,” Kyoko rolls her eyes, “But I can’t wait to be married to you. It’ll be so sweet. We can wake up and kiss and make breakfast together, eat it on our porch, eat it in our garden. We can be so… domestic, y’know?” Birds sang in the distance and you could feel the refreshing breeze that came through the window on your back. Kyoko’s face, bathed in honey-golden sunlight with her eyes sparkling, was just enough to show that she was just as excited as you were about your future wedding. “I’ll make sure to grow lots of vegetables. You need to keep healthy, honey, I won’t tolerate you getting sick on me!” She scolded you teasingly, punctuating her words with a playful kiss on your nose. “And I,” you retorted, “will make sure that you eat all the cakes I bake for you. I gotta keep you sweet and soft somehow, right?” A delighted laugh meets your ears in response. “Yeah,” she said, “you better do that.” You sighed in content. You never got over how beautiful she was, no matter how long you gazed at her, no matter how many times you get lost in those orange-blossom eyes of hers, no matter how many times you kissed those cherry lips of hers, no matter how many times- “Hey!” She caught your attention. “What’re you doing?” Smirking, you yanked her closer with your leg wrapped around her waist until your hips meet and she gasped. “What aren’t I doing?” Before you had time to make another move, she held you by the nape of your neck and kissed you. Unlike most of her delicate kisses, this one is hotter, needier. It surprised you. No, it’s not even that needy- she’s just trying to prove to you that she can make the first move! Your heart swells with love at her dedication to make you happy, to make things...more interesting, in your relationship. You hummed happily into the kiss. That’s when Kyoko really took charge. Her hands traveled to the front of your sleep shirt and she started unbuttoning it. Wow. This was bold and you were enjoying this new side of Kyoko very much. She slid a well-manicured hand in the opening of your shirt and pressed her palm flat on your stomach. You jumped a little and yelped into the kiss- her hands were cold! As expected, she giggled a little as well, the little minx! Not willing to give up just yet, you squeezed her rear firmly and she bit your lip gently. Your hand- warm- slides up the back of her pretty pink slip and— “Kyoko-chan! Wake up! It’s time to get extremely ready for school!” Ryohei, Kyoko’s older brother with no sense of personal space, barged in the room and you had to pretend like you weren’t just swapping spit and getting hot and heavy with his little sister. “B-Big brother!” she shouted, yanking the fluffy duvet over the two of you until the only visible parts of you were from the chin up. “We’re in our pajamas! My best friend is in her pajamas!” “So?” Ryohei tilted his head in confusion. “So you can’t see her like this! She can’t get married if you do!” Kyoko yelled and threw a stuffed animal at the door. Ryohei shouted back how extremely sorry he is and that he will not affect your chances of getting married, for sure, so not to worry about that. You buried your head in Kyoko’s chest and screamed quietly in embarrassment. After that fiasco, Kyoko made sure to lock the door the next time you come over. You leaned on the sink in her bathroom, brushing your teeth with the toothbrush that you both decided would stay at her house since you sleep over so often. Next to you stands your girlfriend, already dressed in her school uniform and brushing out her short, caramel hair. She caught your eye in the mirror and bumps you with her hip; you bump her right back. You rinsed out your mouth and gave Kyoko a minty kiss on the lips. “Sorry I kissed you with my gross morning breath,” you said and straightened out the bow around her neck, “and sorry for making out with you and, like, grinding on you when your brother came in.” Those caramel locks of hers flew as she shook her head passionately. “No! It’s not your fault that happened. And I had gross morning breath too, so we’re even.” She grinned and playfully unbuttons your pajama shirt again. You raised an eyebrow; was she really going to go through with this? Right now? Well, you wouldn’t complain anyway. It would be worth coming to school late. You were a senior already anyway, so the school wouldn’t give you too much grief about being tardy. A pile of clothes smacked against your face, waking you from your daydreams. Kyoko was already walking out of the bathroom, a teasing sway in her hips as she closed the door behind her, leaving you alone to get dressed for the day. You grinned. What a minx. “I’ll see you later, Ryohei. Thanks for letting me stay over!” You bowed slightly to Ryohei. Sure, you’ve known him for years, but you can at least be polite if he was going to nearly catch you making out with his dearly beloved little sister. “I hope you two have an extremely good day!” he shouted and waved enthusiastically. Around his waist was a frilly pink apron that read “KISS THE COOK”. The door shut with an audible click. Ever since he graduated, he’s been staying at home during the day, doing domestic house chores and exercising. At night he took college classes which allowed you and Kyoko enough time to finish homework and cuddle up in front of the television without interruptions. Also it gave you more time to kiss. “Come on, let’s get going!” Kyoko started walking quickly, leaving you behind. “We can’t be late for school! Tsu-kun is probably waiting!” “Oh, he’ll be late anyway, Kyo-chan, what’s the rush?” You pressed a quick kiss to her cheek and slapped her behind lightly, turning her laugh to a gasp. “Oh!” she whispered, scandalously glancing around to make sure no neighbors saw that. “Don’t do that! We’re in public!” Her cheeks were burning brightly. Contrary to her scolding tongue, a smile graced her lips. Just when you were about to kiss those smiling lips, the door behind you slammed open again and a certain white-haired brother tumbled out of it, shouting. “Hey! You two!” Kyoko whipped around with a look of shock painted on her face. Ryohei held up two pretty boxes. “You forgot your lunches!” Ryohei shoved a bento into your arms and reeled a bit when he saw Kyoko’s face. With scrunched brows, he placed a hand over Kyoko’s forehead. “Sis, are you feeling alright? You’re pretty warm. You’re not…” he gasped, “extremely sick, are you?” “Aah, no, I’m...I’m fine,” Kyoko assured him. You smile faintly at her. Wind buffeted your hair and Kyoko reached down to make sure her skirt didn’t lift in the breeze. Another beautiful day in Namimori. If it wasn’t for school, you probably would be taking a walk in a park with Kyoko, or maybe even a trip to the zoo. She really loved watching the otters swim around. “Hey...Kyoko?” “Hmm?” “Do you not want people to know we’re dating?” Kyoko slowed her walking until she stood still. Her soft hair covered her eyes so you couldn’t judge her expression very well but her demeanor was frozen. “No,” she said, “it’s not that… It’s…” Kyoko trailed off and let her sentence be carried off by the wind. You slowly made your way to where she stood on the road and slid an arm around her neck, dropping your bag to the ground. “Hey,” you touch your forehead to hers, startling Kyoko so her eyes drifted up to yours. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to. Don’t feel pressured or anything… If you’re not ready to tell everyone just yet, I can wait. I’ll wait forever if it’s for you, Kyo-chan,” you bumped your nose with hers and she giggled quietly. “I just want everyone to know that you’re mine~” She laughed again, “Don’t be ridiculous!” and shook her head. “There’s nobody that wants to steal me away from you, silly!” The two of you decided that it was time to start walking to school again. “Of course people want to date you! You’re cute, sweet, and really smart! Don’t you know you’re, like, the prettiest girl in school?!” You gawked at Kyoko’s humbleness, but what she was saying just wasn’t true! “Haven’t you seen how Tsuna looks at you?!” “Tsu-kun?” Kyoko put a finger to her chin in thought. “Hmm… No, I think you’re just imagining things!” You squinted at Kyoko’s inability to see how blatant Tsuna’s love for her was. Kyoko took your hand in hers and when you glanced over at her her face was beet-red. You smiled and started to swing your hands together. “Thank you…” she said. “For what?” “Just thanks…” You laughed. She could be so strange sometimes! “Hey!” A thin voice called out. When you turned around, you were greeted by the sight of Tsuna, Yamamoto, and Hayato jogging towards you and Kyoko. You felt her grip loosen until she let go of your hand completely. You didn’t realize how cold your hands were until you weren’t holding hers. “Hi, guys!” Kyoko chirped, voice as chipper as ever. They all responded with a greeting of their own and it didn’t take long for bickering between the boys to begin, and it took even less time for Tsuna to begin getting chatty with Kyoko. You smiled. Poor boy didn’t know your girlfriend was a lesbian. You didn’t realize the fighting between Gokudera and Yamamoto had ended until Gokudera was very close to your side and already speaking. You didn’t catch a word of his sentence. “Sorry, what?” “I said, ‘You and Kyoko are pretty close, aren’t you?’” Green eyes slyly met your own. “I don’t have a single clue, Gokudera-kun.” Despite your denial, you couldn’t keep your mouth from splitting in a wide, toothy grin. Gokudera snorted at your terrible acting. The sounds of the rest of the group turned to background noise. “You and Kyoko are dating, aren’t you?” Gokudera had a smug grin of his own on his face. It took everything you had to not break out in laughter where you were and collapse to the ground in stitches. “What do I look like,” you began, “a person that would date super cute girls and love them with all my heart?” Gokudera seemed to choke a bit at that but when he collected himself he agreed vehemently. You sighed in relief when the lunch bell rang— finally, a break from your classes. The halls were busy with students rushing out to buy food and drinks from the vending machines on the school’s perimeter while your own little group rushed up to the roof to eat in peace. Opening the door, you were temporarily blinded by the sun and heard Gokudera swear somewhere behind you. Yamamoto laughed and was promptly told to shut his trap while Tsuna tried (fruitlessly) to disband the two’s bickering. As you sat down between Yamamoto and Tsuna, you didn’t realize Kyoko wasn’t with you until you had already began to eat the bento Ryohei had packed for the two of you. Surprisingly, his food was quite good. You’d expect it to be burnt, with how fiery Ryohei’s personality was and how easily he was distracted, but his cooking skills had vastly improved from how they were the year before. He’d get a wife easily if he kept up that work. You told the gang you’d go looking for Kyoko real quick and Tsuna nodded, asking if he should come as well. “No,” you replied, “I’ll be just fine.” You didn’t miss Gokudera’s raised eyebrow and had to bite your tongue hard to keep from snickering. “Kyo-chan?” You weaved your way in and out of climbing vines with nearly ripe fruit hanging off, begging to be stolen, and did your best to not dirty your shoes in the soft dirt underfoot. The gardening club had been granted a pretty little space behind the school to do their activities, since the sports clubs used the front of the school grounds. Almost no one except the gardening club came back here. Almost. A lot of couples, you and Kyoko included, would come to make out by the tomatoes and sunflowers; the gardens were a very romantic place for teenagers to get hot and heavy with their lovers. “Kyo-chan? Are you here?” You spotted a head of ginger hair crouched on the cool cement under the shade of an old tree that bordered the gardens. Poor Kyo-chan. “Honey?” Kyoko lifted her head at your call and her lips were pouty and red from gnawing on them. You felt your brow furrow and you came to sit next to her, bringing an arm around her neck to tuck the hair behind her ear and to draw her in closer to you. “Hey,” You whisper. Kyoko leaned into your reclined body, “what’s going on?” She sighed and buried her face in the crook of your neck. You prodded her tummy with wriggling fingers and felt her laugh. “Don’t tickle me!” “I’ll stop when you tell me what’s bothering you!” “You’re so silly!” Kyoko beamed. Then her cheeriness faded and she let her head rest on your shoulder again. “I…” she whispered, “I want to tell people about us…about me and you… But I don’t know what to say… What if they don’t like us?” “Hey.” “…” “Hey,” you grabbed her gently by the shoulder and made her face you. Holding her chin with your fingers and brushing stray strands of hair out of her eyes, you could see the watery sheen they held. “Kyo-chan… There’s nothing to be afraid of. You’re not ashamed of me… are you?” At your timid question, Kyoko reeled back like she had been electrocuted. “Of course I’m not ashamed of you!” she nearly yelled. Her eyes widened when she heard just how loud she was and she leaned in and said quietly, “I’ll never be ashamed of you… I just wish it wasn’t so hard to—” “—come out?” Kyoko laughed, voice tired, and hummed in agreement. Her hand creeped into yours and she softly squeezed your palm and played with your fingers. “Don’t worry, princess, you don’t have to do a thing if you don’t want to. It takes time, y’know? You can’t just decide to tell everyone you know something so personal in a day. It can take a long time… some people never do it. Just—” you coughed, not used to saying such emotionally-wrought things so early in the morning. Heck, at any time of day— Kyoko was always the one that was good with emotions in your relationship. “—just know that everyone loves you. If you’re worried about something changing with the guys, or with your family, don’t be. What’s this, the sixties? Everyone’s a little gay, Kyoko—” Kyoko burst out in a fit of uncontrollable laughter at your comment. “—okay, fine, not everyone, but a lot of people are! Including me and you~” you nuzzled your nose on Kyoko’s rosy cheeks and nipped her ear when she turned away from your ticklish affections. “I think you mean especially us- and not just a little bit, a lot!” Kyoko swished her finger in the air like he was making a point— and she was, a very, very valid one. She turned around and held your face firmly in her small hands as she planted lots of kisses over your face until you were in happy tears, begging her to stop and let you catch a breath! She rolled off you onto the ground, seemingly uncaring of the whiteness shirt or maybe she just forgot how dusty the concrete by the gardens were. “Baby, we should be heading back to the boys now, what do you think? You don’t want them to suspect anything, right? Actually,” you snorted in a way that Kyoko found cute (it was really wasn’t, though), “Gokudera already knows.” “What?” Kyoko gasped. “Yeah. I guess he knows from growing up with his sister. She’s so hot, I don’t doubt she had a lot of lovers, same gendered or not.” Rolling your eyes, you tried to imagine Bianchi with a woman. It was extremely easy to imagine her having a woman as a lover. You giggled, feeling like you had a secret that no one else knew. “Hey!” Kyoko whined, “Are you imagining other women? I’m right here!” Kyoko pouted. Just as you were going to apologize and explain to her what you found so funny when Kyoko surprised you yet again. “You don’t even have to imagine with me! Just do it!” And Kyoko kissed you hard on the mouth. With a little more teeth than you were used to, but Kyoko seemed to really enjoy taking charge recently. It was nice. She carded her hands through your hair and tilted your head back by your hair so she could get a better angle. You kissed her back with tenderness, content in having her in your arms. Kyoko had something else in mind, though. Crawling into your lap, her weight on you was also a bonus of her trying to pry a better kiss out of you. You lost yourself in the softness of her lips and the nip of her teeth when she changed the angle of her neck, and just the slightest hint of her smooth tongue skimming your bottom lip and— “K-Kyoko-chan?!” You pull away from Kyoko with tousled hair and swollen lips to see Tsuna standing— well, fallen, really, on the ground a few feet away from the two of you. Kyoko still perched on your lap, your mind drew a blank when you tried to think of an escape plan and an explanation, short of throwing Kyoko into the garden and pretending like nothing happened. Tsuna’s face was red as hot iron and he was probably as heated as it too as he stammered, “W-We were wondering if something happened to you two, s-since you were gone so long and Gokudera-kun said to go looking for you but… I-I can go, actually, right n-now—” “Wait!” Kyoko yelled, her face buried in your chest. You could feel an awkward bead of sweat rolling down the side of your neck… Why was she telling him to stay with her head shoved in your chest? Truly, it was a strange turn of events and Kyoko wasn’t making your situation look any more innocent… “I’m in love, Tsu-kun!” “E-Eh?” “That’s right!” Kyoko picked up your hands and held them tightly in hers, “I’m in love with a girl! I don’t care what you think either; we are absolutely perfect together and I love her very much! Our love is pure, organic, and beautiful!” Kyoko’s eyes burned with a passion you could only assume to be prevalent throughout the Sasagawa family as she announced her love for you to your dear friend. Your lip quivered and tears began to fog your vision. Happy they were, but you blinked hard to clear them. An event as important as this meant you couldn’t miss a single second of it. “Um,” Tsuna began, keeping his eyes level with Kyoko’s gaze even as his face burned, “That’s not a problem at all? I mean, I’m happy for both of you, but you didn’t have to hide it or anything… I’m just… surprised, that’s all.” Kyoko took a second to process that and during the awkward silence that followed, Tsuna shuffled his feet. Kyoko still hadn’t moved from your lap… Really, it was making this situation more trying than it needed to be… “C-Can I go now?” Tsuna sheepishly asked for permission. Kyoko nodded slowly and Tsuna practically sprinted away from the sight of his long-time crush making out with her best friend. You couldn’t blame him. The look on Kyoko’s face gave you a clear view to all the machinery working in her mind, every gear and cog rotating, still trying to understand what just happened. “Oh,” she finally said. “That was a little easier than I thought.” “You girls are such terrible actors,” Gokudera said with a cigarette hanging out the corner of his mouth, his hands upturned in a show of dramatic disappointment. “Really? I had no idea! I think you could make it to Hollywood! Haha, invite me to lots of award shows, I want to meet famous celebrities~” Yamamoto laughed and opposed Gokudera’s opinion. He smiled and went on about how he was just going to help a friend ask the both of you on a date. Good thing he didn’t, Yamamoto chimed. “Shut up, baseball freak,” grumbled Gokudera, already drained of Yamamoto’s presence in your friend group. “Whaaat? Ah, you’re so mean, Gokudera-kun!” Yamamoto teased and playfully hit Gokudera’s shoulder, resulting in another fight between the two opposites. Kyoko leaned into you as the five of you walked home, going through a nearby shopping mall to get a bite to eat first. Your arm was wrapped around her waist and pulling her in close. Both of your hips bumped with each step but it was only a mild annoyance—a trade off in exchange for being able to openly adore your girlfriend. “How do you like this?” “I love it,” Kyoko smiled and nuzzled into your neck, causing you to jump and smack her lightly with your schoolbag. A loud commotion sounded from a grocery store to your left. A young man in a white apron yelled into a crowd about the store’s outrageously cheap deals of the month and flocks of mothers held crumpled coupons in their waving fists. The air smelled like grilled meat and the small food stands outside the grocery store must have been making a fortune off of the hungry shoppers. Suddenly, a familiar turf top came into view, much more weary than he was this morning and carrying a ridiculous amount of brown paper bags, overflowing with his purchases. “Big brother!” Kyoko said in surprise. Ryohei made a similar greeting when he noticed how close you two were, and Kyoko took notice of it as well— she didn’t shy away but you could feel heat creeping up her neck. Ryohei’s eyes widened for a second before he broke out in a grin that reached his ears. “Aah, you’re finally together? I’m extremely happy for you!” Ryohei’s explosive personality returned and he beamed brightly, murmurs of agreement echoing faintly within your friend group as well. “E-eh?” Reeling back in confusion, Kyoko blinked and tilted her head, “You knew?” Of course Kyoko was shocked; she went through every precaution to make sure that her romantic relationship with her best friend was a secret! The bags in Ryohei’s arms crinkled as he shook his head at Kyoko’s naivety. “Do you think I really wouldn’t be able to tell when my precious baby sister was in love? I’m not that dull, Kyoko-chan!” he guffawed. Laughter bubbled up in your stomach, growing and growing until you were in peels of laughter, wiping happy tears from your eyes. The two of you never needed to hide anyway! While you were busy laughing until your stomach hurt, you didn’t notice that Kyoko had dropped her school bag until she spun you by the shoulders and kissed you. All of her fear melted away like ice and her overflowing joy infected you, breaking the kiss through your ecstatic giggles. Her pretty honey eyes were shining with mirthful tears and she rested her forehead on yours, smiling softly all the while she told you, “I love you.” Faintly, you heard the loud voice of a certain boxer who did a terrible job of hiding his fondness for the two of you yell, “Hey, you two should extremely get a room!”

Do you think that Ouma's hatred of killing and deaths were genuine or fabricated? Why do you think he auditioned for the killing game?
Every single shred of evidence we have in canon says hishatred of killing and deaths was 100% genuine. That’s a fact about hischaracter that can’t be denied. Whether people love or hate Ouma, or anywherein between, he’s still undeniably one of the characters in all of Danganronpawho was the most morally againstkilling another human being.
This fact, of course, makes Chapter 4 that much moreinteresting, and also that much more tragic. A character with such a strongmoral code against killing being literally cornered into a situation wherekilling was unavoidable is both an interesting development, and a sad one. Hewas still willing to do what it took to stay alive in the end, of course—even thoughhe didn’t resort to killing Miu directly, he definitely manipulated her andGonta into dying. But that usage of underhanded tactics took a huge toll on himand is a large part of the reason why he decided not to do the same thing allover again in Chapter 5, even when he had a perfect opportunity to stay aliveby throwing Momota and Maki under the bus.
I’ll discuss all the reasons why Ouma absolutely, undeniablyhated killing and deaths, but it’ll probably get pretty long. It’ll involvespoilers for the entire game, too, so please only read at your own risk!
The first and most obvious reason is, of course, his motivevideo. We uncover this video in Chapter 6, after Ouma’s already died. At theend of Chapter 5, Ouma remains something of a mystery to us: even though wecertainly hear from Momota’s retelling of events that he hated the killing game, the chapter leaves it as a sort of catbox where you can choose whether you wantto believe him or not. Even the characters themselves are divided on whether hewas telling the truth. Momota and Himiko think he was lying; Kiibo, meanwhile, seems fairly certain Ouma had no reason to lie when he was about to kill himself.
But if the game had actually wanted to leave it a completelyambiguous mystery as to whether Ouma was telling the truth or not in thatflashback, then we wouldn’t receive such blatantly important information inChapter 6 about him. His motive video details his relationship with DICE a bit, describing the 10 of them as “the most important people in his life,” “friendswho were closer than family to him,” and stipulates without any room for argumentthat they had two mottos. One of these mottos was to go around committinglaughable crimes—the second was “don’t kill people.”
DICE and Ouma were a group of pranksters. It’s unspecifiedexactly what kinds of crimes they did, but there’s no room for doubt that theywere pretty harmless pranks where no one was supposed to get hurt. They neverkilled anyone, ever; probably the most they did was petty theft, consideringhow much of Ouma’s character is coded in phantom thief terms. He’s skilled atpicking locks, a talent completely unrelated to being a “Supreme Leader” (andwe know his Supreme Leader talent is fake, because his “secret organization” isliterally a group of 10 other people who run around in clown masks pullingpranks for fun). Not only that, but his love hotel lampshades the whole “phantomthief” trope that he embodies. We can assume from the fact that his motivevideo mentions he and DICE “took the world by storm” with their pranks to meanthey probably travelled, a lot, tricking people and setting up heists, all tohave a good time where nobody got hurt.
One of the most important rules associated with a phantomthief is, in fact, a personal moral code of conduct. This is something that Ifeel gets overlooked with Ouma’s character a lot, but it’s pretty common withalmost every famous phantom thief character in fiction. “Not killing” is themost well-known and important of these moral codes, and the most universal.Ouma absolutely hating killing and death isn’t really a surprise when you analyzehim the way you would any other phantom thief character. He loves games, he loves outsmarting people, pranking them, teasing them, not hurting or killing them. A phantom thief livesfor the challenge of a heist well done, and longs for an intellectual rival whocan chase them and keep up with them—and that’s Ouma to a T.
But even before he could’ve seen his motive video and “remembered”things about DICE or himself all the way back in Chapter 2, it’s clear that hehated killing even before that. The second reason we have to believe that hewas telling the truth is the fact that he’s pretty openly disapproving towardsthe other characters that kill, right from the start.
Even back in Chapter 1, when pretty much everyone is willingto give Kaede a free pass for “killing” Amami (even though she didn’t actually kill him, but she andeveryone in the cast thought that she did back then, since Tsumugi framed her),Ouma was the only one in the group who still told her outright that he couldn’tcondone her actions. He pretty much tells her “cool motive, still murder” whenshe says that she only wanted to kill the ringleader, and calls her out on havingtalked about “cooperating with everyone” and “everyone trusting in each other”even though she put a plan to murder another person into action behind everyone’sbacks without consulting anyone about it.
He’s still sad about her inevitable execution, of course.Right before she dies, he drops the act entirely and, completely blank-facedwithout any over-exaggerated emotions or crocodile tears, he looks her in theeye and tells her goodbye, and that she “wasn’t boring”—high praise, comingfrom Ouma. The only other characters he says “aren’t boring” are the ones hetruly respects, like Saihara throughout most of the game, and Momota in Chapter5 after he protected him from Maki’s second arrow. But just because he was sadthat she was going to die didn’t mean he could just automatically condone orforgive her for trying to take a person’s life.
Another example of this point is his hatred for Maki. Themoment he finds out about her talent as the SHSL Assassin in Chapter 2 bystealing her motive video, he begins treating her considerably more harshlythan he did in Chapter 1. Before, she was an enigmatic presence who clearly washiding something; once he knew whatshe was hiding, specifically, he considered her a threat whose identity had tobe exposed to the group at all costs in order to keep her from acting on herown in the shadows and killing any of them.
As early as Chapter 2, he exposes her in front of everyoneby provoking her into lunging for him so that he can show the whole group whatan actual, honest-to-god threat she is. He wanted to highlight her recklessimpulsivity, the fact that despite looking so cold, Maki is someone whoabsolutely acts before she thinks. She’s been trained to act, not to question, after all. It’s not an assassin’s job to sit there and think things through, it’stheir job to take orders and point and kill. The fact that she tries to killOuma on impulse by choking him on more than one occasion is pretty clear proofof this.
He brings up the fact that she’s killed people for moneyagain and again, whenever possible. Unlike Ryouma, who did kill people in thepast but was never actually trained to do so and had no interest in killinganymore after already having killed off all the mafia members who murdered hisloved ones, Maki is still a threat because her assassin training is somethingthat defines her as a person. He’s as harsh on her as he is on the actualculprits who kill, like Kirumi and Korekiyo, because he knows she’s a potentialthreat and he wants the group to take her seriously as one.
…Of course, sadly, no one actually does so. Chapter 5 prettyclearly shows that everyone’s blind optimism and unwavering faith in oneanother was actually every bit as dangerous as Ouma said it was. While his ownactions and provocations are a certainly responsible for why things turn outthe way that they do in Chapter 5, there’s no way to deny either the fact thateveryone turning a blind eye to how dangerous Maki was also contributed tothings.
Even when Maki was clearly itching to go save Momota, evenwhen she talked openly about wanting to kill Ouma while everyone else justwanted to “talk him down” the same way Naegi and the other dr1 survivors “talkeddown” Junko, Maki was talking openly about murder. But everyone assumed thatbecause she said she wouldn’t do so, they could trust her implicitly. Even whenshe shows up at the cafeteria the morning of the fifth murder without herelectric hammer and only a knife in hand, everyone still seems somehowconvinced she isn’t an actual serious threat towards anyone’s life, at all.
It’s this cold disregard for human life that makes it reallyimpossible for her and Ouma to ever see eye-to-eye. When she breaks into themachinery bay in Chapter 5 to torture him first for information about theRemnants of Despair, then kill him, he’s literally just astounded. Not onlydoes he not know anything about Hope’s Peak Academy or the Remnants because henever used the remember light that Tsumugi planted, but he’s honestly 100%taken aback that she would try and kill him after he specifically told everyonethat “the killing game was over.” He asks her point-blank, “Do you really lovekilling that much?” in shock andhorror. And he was definitely not faking that reaction.
Ouma was someone who never wanted to kill or hurt anyone, ifpossible. He was willing to do cold, practical, horrible things if push came toshove—because it was a killing game, and he tried to rationalize these thingsto himself with “the ends justify the means.” But he never really could believeit. Even manipulating Miu and Gonta into getting killed, even knowing that Miuwould have killed him if he hadn’t killed her, and even knowing that the realculprit to blame was the killing game itself, the loss of human life in Chapter4 impacted him so strongly that he really was tired and cynical and frustratedwith everything by Chapter 5.
As for why he auditioned for the killing game, we can onlyspeculate for now. I have no doubt that if he’d had any bad intentions or saidanything condemning in his audition video, Tsumugi would’ve showed it, though. She was pretty set for a long time even in Chapter 6 on setting him up (Ichecked again the other day and it’s literally not until 5 hours and 15 minutesinto Chapter 6 as a whole that they even disprove the whole “Ouma is a Remnants”thing).
I know at least one popular theory among Japanese fans who’veplayed the game is that he entered it from the beginning intending to stop it.I personally think this theory is highly plausible. We know for a fact that thecharacters’ pre-game selves aren’t too different from their in-game personas attheir core. Kaede, for instance, entered the killing game wanting to becomesomeone who could trust people—because, according to her audition video, she “couldn’treally trust or believe in others.” And despite having been molded into aseemingly perfect, outgoing protagonist figure, a part of Kaede was stilldistrustful and suspicious at her core.
Therefore, if Ouma hated killing and death at the core ofhis character (and we know from all the evidence I’ve already discussed that hedid), then we can also assume he was probably like this even before the killinggame. It wouldn’t be the first time someone entered wanting to put an end tothe killing game—Amami does the same thing, after all, although his reasons aremore to do with having participated in a previous game already. Still, I thinkit’s highly possible that Ouma tried to enter the killing game wanting to stopit, though that’s a motive he would have to have played very close to the chestor else I doubt he would’ve been selected as a participant.
But in a society like ndrv3’s where children and teenagersseem to be almost entirely desensitized to killing and violence, it makes sensethat someone like Ouma who is deeply empathetic at his core would hate thekilling game and everything it stood for. The idea of people getting off onother people’s suffering was something he honestly detested, even as hisin-game persona—his post-trial villain speech in Chapter 4 is half-parts apointed jab at the audience and half-parts a bitter and self-deprecatingtirade, because he felt he was no better than the real ringleader after what hedid to Miu and Gonta.
Anyway, this is very long by now, so I’ll stop, but I hope Iwas able to answer this question in full. People can like or not like Ouma’scharacter; that’s really up to them. But I hope I can provide a deeperunderstanding of his motives, at least. Regardless of where Ouma stands oneveryone’s personal preferences, he did notenjoy killing, or death, or suffering. This is a pretty solid fact supported byevery single piece of canonical evidence we have on him, and not just mypersonal bias. If people can at least understand that fact about him, I’ll behappy—he’s a character who makes it very hard to know his real intentions andyou always have to read between the lines, but the hints and clues aredefinitely there if you’re looking for them.
Thank you for asking, anon!

Mun name: Chrissy OOC Contact: Ask/IMs for the most part. I tend to keep my discord/skype private.
Who the heck is my muse anyway?
Tumblr media
Giovanni was the primary antagonist for the first generation of games in the Pokemon series and has been such an iconic character that he’s made appearances in the anime and manga and has been referenced multiple times throughout the game series. He’s the head of the Pokemon world’s version of the yakuza/mafia known as Team Rocket with the ultimate goal of stealing Pokemon for profit so that he can eventually dominate the world.
Points of interest:
My portrayal of Giovanni actually borrows from multiple sources though mostly I lean heavily towards the games and the anime. Game wise you can consider this blog canon divergent since I completely ignore the Tohjo Falls retcon that happened in HGSS. Giovanni might have heard the radio signal from his executives, but he chose not to answer it and therefore never battled the young trainer from New Bark Town.
Giovanni’s identity as the leader of Team Rocket is well kept secret that very few people know. Though he has a very public identity as both the Viridian City Gym Leader ( which retains a reputation for being the fiercest and strongest gym in Kanto ) and as a wealthy businessman who’s made generous donations across Kanto
Giovanni is still the Viridian City Gym Leader and in fact rebuilt the gym after Ash’s disastrous battle with Jessie and James. Beneath the Viridian City Gym are the main headquarters for Team Rocket and is generally where Giovanni can be found if he’s not travelling.
Giovanni is Ash’s biological father. Though the only Ash I’ll acknowledge this with is @ofpalletown. Over a decade ago, Giovanni met and fell in love with a young girl in Pallet Town. This has been the single most defining relationship he’s ever had as no other woman has ever compared to Delia Ketchum. But when Giovanni learned of his mother’s death and he learned that Delia was pregnant, Giovanni chose his career over his family and left Delia in the middle of the night without a word.
I have two main verses: Rocket verse and Exile verse. My Rocket verse is a general verse for all scenarios that involve Giovanni as head of Team Rocket whether it’s pre-series or post-series in a scenario where he never disbanded Team Rocket. Exile verse is more game oriented and follows the period of time in which Giovanni disbanded Team Rocket and went solo. Although this verse can also apply to scenarios in which Giovanni might have disbanded Team Rocket for different reasons unrelated to the events that happened in the games.
What they’ve been up to recently:
ROCKET VERSE: Giovanni is currently in the midst of launching Team Rocket’s expansion into the Kalos region after the fall of Team Flare. Though it’s been slow going as he’s facing opposition from outside sources along with remnant Team Flare factions.
EXILE VERSE: Giovanni is currently in Alola mostly to keep an eye on his sons, but also to learn more about the pokemon unique to the region. Mostly though he’s disgruntled and unimpressed with the people and the customs of the region.
Where to find them:
MAIN VERSE / MOST VERSES: Viridian City either at Team Rocket Headquarters or in his personal estate. Though lately he’s been spending more time in a certain house in Pallet Town.
EXILE VERSE:  Generally in his summer home outside of  Hau'oli City, though this verse tends to vary a lot as Giovanni will travel quite a bit.
PREQUEL VERSE: As a guest in Delia Ketchum’s home in Pallet Town
Current plans:
KALOS EXPANSION: with Lysandre dead and Team Flare effectively gone, Giovanni has plans to further Team Rocket’s reach by adding the Kalos region under his control.
RECONCILE WITH SILVER: in the Exile verse, with Team Rocket disbanded Giovanni has come to the slow realisation that his son is the most important part of his life that he’s been ignoring for so long. Unfortunately that relationship has been falling apart for years and he’ll readily accept Silver’s decision if he chooses to cut ties with his father. But until that happens, he’ll do what he can rebuild what he can with his on.
Desired interactions:
More Rocket interactions: I don’t do enough of these. I know there are quite a few Team Rocket blogs floating around, but strangely I’ve yet to get off my ass and plot things out with them.
Early Life/Rise to power: I’ve always wanted to explore this part of Giovanni’s life, basically his teen years to when he becomes head of Team Rocket.
Mafia verse: I have a mafia verse sitting here that I very rarely touch and I want to use it since I’m trash for mafia stuff. I mean look at the character I’m roleplaying, is this really a surprise anymore?
A different choice: lately it’s been really rattling around in my head how different Giovanni would be if he didn’t choose Team Rocket. What kind of man would he be without the corrupting and enabling influence of his organisation? What career would he choose? Would he still just be a criminal anyway? All that stuff that I want to explore.
Recruiting: nothing tickles me more when Giovanni manages to convince someone to join Team Rocket.
Hunting: Giovanni personally hunting down a traitor = fun times
Marriage of convenience: Giovanni marrying someone for advantage. No romance. Nothing. Him and his partner are in this fully knowing that the marriage is a sham. Bonus points of Giovanni ends up divorcing later.
Down with the law: Giovanni evading the law is A+++, especially if it’s with Looker or Anabel.
Offered interactions:
Need a boss? Giovanni is your man as he offers a stable job with great benefits and you’re unlikely to have a boring day.
He’s totally not a dad: if your character needs a dad, then Giovanni is here to fill that role.
Mentor: something Giovanni will very rarely admit and hardly realises himself is that he actually enjoys teaching, but it’d take extenuating circumstances for him to admit that much
Antagonist: well duh, he’s a villain. He’s here to ruin your day if you need it.
Current open post/s:
Not really one for making open posts.
Anything else?:
I happen to have a few pet peeves when roleplaying that I’d appreciate my partners to take into consideration:
Nothing makes me drop a thread faster than characters who have no business knowing that Giovanni is the head of Team Rocket since this is a secret that he takes great pains in hiding. There’s canon evidence for this in the games and in nearly every version of anime. So  unless your character is a super great at information gatherer as in that’s their career and they have the resources or they’re a high ranking member of Team Rocket, your character should not instantly recognise him as the Rocket Leader.
While it’s a fun little jab OOC now and then, if you seriously start an interaction with me where your character is basically “lol you got defeated by an eleven year old” I’m dropping the thread. In a world where EVERY trainer who isn’t the protag in EVERY game was basically defeated by an eleven year old trainer, this is god damn irritating. And also in character wise? Giovanni wouldn’t put up with that kind of mockery anyway.
Don’t force headcanons on me. Don’t. If you have headcanons that involve Giovanni in some way, discuss them with me and find a middle ground. I really dislike when people make assumptions about my character.
Keep all of the above in mind and we’re all gravy baby!
