Sorry for being so inactive lately... been busy irl, and have been meaning to post here more often, but also, like... I always feel a bit shy approaching the 'kin communities on here because it kind of feels like everyone is sort of... "internet poisoned"? For lack of a possibly-better word. A lot of folks here on tumblr in the 'kin and alterhuman communities are children, and a lot of more prominent community figures treated like "elders" are only about my age or younger, and it feels really strange, to be honest. There's a lot of discussion of feelings and terminology, but very little "lifestyle"? It's like there's a universal expectation for everyone to just figure everything out on their own; you get some definitions here and there yeah, but the amount of variance says much more loudly "just figure out what it all means on your own, pal". ex. Not only can no one actually explain what "otherhearted" actually means sans relation to otherkin, but it feels like I never see anyone talk about dealing with what one could call "kin feels" in the workplace, when unable to acquire your habitat, etc... Othercon is online-only, and while I'm pretty sure I'd be unable to attend an in-person event, part of me has a hard time feeling like everyone is really taking it all seriously and is really unafraid of being "cringe" when obviously it's so much easier to act like you're so confident online. I kinda feel like meeting some wolfkin stereotypes in a park for snacks and doing a group howl would do more for me than years of reading essays on tumblr ever has.
I dunno, I tried watching a recording of an Othercon panel I felt would be relevant and useful to me once, and was floored at just how... utterly useless it was. Despite its promising title, it was just shallow "you're valid" garbage and internet discourse... Makes me feel severely alienated, to be honest.

hey uh I've only used airbnb twice because I don't live in America but I'm seeing posts about how hotels are better in every way and while I can't speak to the accuracy of most arguments I'd like to point out the nuance that for people like me having access to a kitchen (something hotels basically never give) is absolutely a requirement if I'm staying more than like one night. The vast majority of food served in hotels and restaurants I can't eat and chances are I won't be able to check in advance if I'm going to run into enough exceptions to not make myself sick (twice I've gotten sick traveling because I wasn't able to find enough foods and spent a week eating like two ingredients, due to unforeseen complications). I need a kitchen or I can't risk going. Kitchenless hotel rooms are an accessibility issue.

Sorry to ask, but I saw your tags on the "there's a beatles in my closet" post and was wondering if you could expand? What else was blocked because of gay stuff?
hi! basically there’s this book called “rock bottom” by geoff baker, who was paul’s publicist for many years but was fired in 2003. geoff baker basically got blacklisted in the industry after he cut ties with paul and allegedly further blacklisted after releasing the book. it’s notoriously hard to find a copy of rock bottom because its initial run was quite limited and (for unknown reasons… 👀) it never had a second run and so is basically impossible to buy - it was even taken down from the amazon kindle ebook store at some point. i’ve also heard that it was incredibly hard to get any publisher to look at the book because no one wanted to get involved out of fear of being sued.
the actual book is about a publicist who works for a controlling arsehole closeted bisexual rock star who ends up getting blackmailed with gay photos from the 70s. the rock star’s name is ian taylor (which is significant since one of paul’s pseudonyms is ian iachimoe - which apparently he asked his friends and family to address letters to in order to stand out) and the rock star’s estranged former writing partner is literally named john (but goes by jack) 😭😭 - to my limited knowledge (i.e reading the few excerpts and posts abt it on live journal) there’s nothing that suggests a relationship between those two but still wild.
obviously it’s not 100% confirmed that the book is at all about paul (geoff has said that it’s not, but also advertised that his experience in the industry helped him write it) or that paul had anything to do with killing it but i would say we can make some inferences as to what happened there tbh

in my search for every available piece of media rebecca ferguson has ever been in, i found another short film from early on in her career! its called "flyga, inte dala" (2009) and from what i could gather (since i dont speak swedish and there are never subtitles on these things) it was a 16-minute monologue from a woman who's trapped herself in a small room with a bed and a ton of little possessions that shes attached herself to and can't leave. i really liked the way it was shot (3 panels in the center of a black screen), i could feel her mental state and emotion clearly even without understanding a single word she said
ALSO i found two different versions - the one i watched and took screenshots of was on vimeo, but there was another one on youtube that had much more vivid colors and a different setup for the panels
anyway here are a few of my favorite shots

Having just reblogged a post about leaving positive reviews for your vet clinic, I wanted to expand a bit on how to write a positive review even when nothing particularly ~*special*~ happened. This is geared towards vet med, but it's pretty universal for most service industry interactions you have - I use a version of this when I go to a restaurant, dentist/doctor, repair shop, etc.
Do:
Say it was a good visit. ("Good visit!")
See if you can find the name of the person or people who you dealt with. Often, the vet's name is printed on your receipt - less common for techs/assistants/receptionists. Mention them if you have that info - management often looks at things like that in evaluations. ("Dr. Q and Sam took care of my baby for his yearly shots.") If you don't know names, it's okay to say "everyone" or "the staff".
Say at least one thing that went right / didn't go wrong. This doesn't have to be something big. If you're uncertain - look at some of the bad reviews and find something that you can counteract. ("Everyone communicated well with me about what to expect during the visit!" or "Everyone was professional and gentle with Mr. Pookums!")
Optional: make it a little bit personal or funny. This makes you feel more real to a person reading the review on their screen. ("We've been coming here since he was a teeensy baby!" or "He says he's not sorry for peeing in the lobby.") Sometimes you really have nothing to say here and that's okay.
End on a straightforward positive note. ("Thanks for taking care of him!" or "We'll be coming back for his follow-up in a few weeks!")
Don't:
Don't mention special treatment or favors you got. I can't do it for everyone, and staff may get in trouble with management if they break rules.
Don't spend a ton of time on the bad if the goal is a positive review. If something went poorly but the overall visit was good, you can say that! But you don't need to try and make my excuses for me or give an essay about the situation.
Don't forget that tone gets lost in translation. We have a frequent flyer client who loving greets our front desk staff "what's up, bitches?!" but if she writes a review that says "the bitches up front" did something, people reading the review don't know that she means it in the way she intends.
