begging people to realize that the back warehouse of a grocery store is not a second, secret grocery store that has everything you need plus some extra secret items the first grocery store does not have
#look it probably varies from store to store#but at least where i work the back is a fucking mess.#like. you're imagining neat tidy shelves and specific sections for each product#that is not what the back is. it's a disorganized hellhole with every type of product piled haphazardly on top of each other#wheelers lying around with the most random items.#you have to understand that if a grocery worker were to 'check in the back' for something#it would likely take 10ish minutes if it WAS there.#and like. stuff like produce isn't just going to be kept in boxes in the back either. or meat or seafood.#if they have sellable meat or produce they're not just going to stick it in some deep freezer in the back#and wait for it to become two days away from unsellable before they bring it out.#with those departments especially if they have something you want it is going to be on display#and if it's not they don't have it.#stuff like soda is a bit easier to find usually#but even then there's so many different brands all piled together in crates on the same wheeler#not even opened#and i hate to say it but most grocery workers honestly just have more important things to do#than go rooting around like truffle pigs in the back for the stuff you want.#they might be doing price change or they might be stocking a new product#or they might be trying to fill a central display case#or they might be filling an online shopping order and thus on a time crunch#and even if none of those are the case a grocery worker can get called away to a different task on a dime.#they can't just drop everything to hunt in the back for whatever fucking granola bars you want so bad.#absolutely we can tell you where things are#and we can recommend alternatives to out of stock items. sure. but you'll only be wasting your time and ours#if you ask us to check for something in the back.

Larry x Kabu (AoKabu, Blueturnipshipping) headcanons/rambles who cheered!!
- the name 'blueturnipshipping' is being coined by me!!! If there is another wildly used name I would like to know, but my reason for choosing that ship name is because when combined, Ao and Kabu translates to 'blue turnip' (at least, when using machine translation. If it translates differently I would like to know!!!!)
- Kabu, especially in his youth, was seen as quite attractive due to his physical fitness and general attitude on the battlefield. Paired with being a celebrity he was likely sought after frequently. He mentions it very rarely in passing but isn't something he likes to bring up, both from general politeness/being humble and also because a good chunk of those pursuing him were parasocial due to his status. It happens a lot less now due to his age, since he doesn't use social media he doesn't see how there are some people online who make negative comments about him being past his prime. Even so he still has that latent feeling of having peaked, stemming from his previous stumbling in his career as a gym leader.
- Larry probably hasn't experienced being desired in the same capacity as Kabu. Being a gym leader and elite four member doesn't get you much prestige in Paldea due to having less money within the League and a lack of celebrity culture in Paldea for the league. The only exceptions to this are people who are famous for things outside of their position as a gym leader, like Iono with her streaming career. As this is something Larry doesn't have, he isn't on nearly as wide a stage. He's also not particularly 'handsome' in the sense that he isn't well built or looks like a model, so while he has had experience dating and being sought after it's generally not very common and definitely became rarer as he got older. Thats partially because of him being extremely busy as well, not just from his age/looks.
- Kabu is extremely outwardly passionate about battling, something that Larry admires and partially envies. Larry also has a passion for it- he wouldn't be a double member of the League otherwise- but due to working two positions and having an office job he's worn thin and has lost that 'spark' that made him really enjoy battling in the first place. Kabu reignites that in him.
- Kabu greatly appreciates Larry's ability to ignore how others think about him. Kabu isn't self conscious per se, but you do end up taking on some level of concern about your appearance/attitude/actions/etc when you're a celebrity and scrutinized 24/7.
- Kabu is canonically from Hoenn and I headcanon Larry as being from Johto due to his Dudunsparce + how heavily based on the Japanese salaryman stereotype he is. Because of this they both bond over a shared appreciation for the similarities in their cuisine (I headcanon that hoenn has a heavier focus on seafood due to having a lot of ocean nearby, and the Kanto/Johto areas are more agriculture focused. However they are both based on Japan so there is overlap)
- Kabu is more prone to grand gestures of love. Think impressive dinners, big bouquets, if he's making you a meal it's going to be a full course meal. That sort of thing. His 'always do your best' attitude carries over into his love life, though he does try to tone it down as Larry can sometimes be overwhelmed by it.
- Larry, conversely, shows his love in smaller ways. He sees something at the store while buying groceries he thinks Kabu would like and gets it, and doesn't really say much about it. Sending texts on his break that are just simple reminders that he loves Kabu. They balance each other out.
- both of them are a little surprised to learn they like each other back. Larry because he views Kabu as completely out of his league, and Kabu because he would have thought his more fiery personality wouldn't have meshed very well with Larry's more muted one. Kabu has had experience in the past with having lovers originally fully enjoy how passionate it is before they got tired of it and found it overbearing; Larry is just always a bit surprised people actually like him outside of him being a generally fine coworker since he's constantly hearing from others that he's boring and not very fun.
N e wayz. I like sharing and I like answering questions!!! So if anyone sees this and is curious about other headcanons of mine for these two (even just individually, not just as a pair) then send me asks!!!! I don't bite :)

[ID: A plate of whole and ground spices including red chilis, Ceylon cinnamon, coriander seeds, and star anise. End ID]
新加坡咖哩粉 / Xinjiapo gali fen / Curry powder Singapura (Singapore curry powder)
Singapore curry powder, or gali fen ("gali" from the English "curry"), is a spice blend that was inspired by British Madras curry powder, but grew to incorporate Chinese spices and aromatics. It is representative of the culinary culture of Singapore, which incorporates influence from Chinese, Indian, Thai, Malay, and Indonesian cuisines.
This blend is used in “Singapore” curry fried noodles (actually a Hong Kongese dish) and in other Chinese curry dishes including chicken curry (新加坡式咖喱鸡), beef brisket curry (咖喱牛腩饭), curry soup noodles, and vegetable curries. It is also a popular choice for marinating meat and seafood.
Curry powder Singapura starts from a base of dried red chilis, and is rounded out with earthy spices including turmeric, coriander, cumin, and fenugreek. Warming spices such as nutmeg, mace, cinnamon, and cloves are often also included. Chinese influence sometimes appears in the form of chenpi (dried mandarin orange peel), Sichuan peppercorn, dried radish, liquorice root, star anise, and dried ginger.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Makes about 1/3 cup.
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp (17.4g) ground turmeric / 薑黃
10 dry red chilis (11g; adjust to taste)
2 Tbsp (8g) coriander seeds / 芫茜
1 tsp (3.6g) fenugreek seeds (optional)
1 tsp (2.5g) cumin seeds / 小茴香種子
1 tsp (2g) fennel seeds / 谷茴
1 tsp (2g) ground ginger (optional)
1/2 tsp (1.6g) black peppercorns
1 inch (1.5g) Ceylon cinnamon / 桂皮
1 pod (1.4g) star anise / 八角
1g liquorice root / gan cao / 甘草 (optional)
1g chenpi / 陳皮(optional)
1g cao guo / tsao ko / 草果 / Chinese black cardamom, freshly grated (optional)
4 (1g) green cardamom pods
1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg / 玉果 (1/4 tsp preground; .5g)
1/4 tsp (7; .4g) cloves
2 blades mace (.2g; optional)
Liquorice root, chenpi, and cao guo may be found at an east Asian or Chinese grocery store, but may need to be purchased online. Many homemade versions of this spice blend do not include these spices.
Hong Kong curries tend to be relatively mild and sweet, including a lot of turmeric and cinnamon relative to the amount of chili and pungent spices. You should adjust the heat, sweetness, and pungency of the blend to your taste.
Instructions:
1. For a less spicy curry powder, you may choose to break open the chilis and remove all or some of their seeds.
2. Roughly crush star anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom pods in a mortar and pestle or with the flat of a knife. In a small, dry skillet, toast whole spices (coriander, fenugreek, cumin, black pepper, cinnamon, fennel, star anise, nutmeg, cardamom, Sichuan peppercorn, cloves, and mace) one at a time until each is fragrant. Set aside and allow to cool.
Spices are toasted one at a time so that smaller spices don't burn before larger ones are fully fragrant. Sometimes, I'll toast larger spices (such as cloves and cardamom pods) together, and then toast smaller seeds (such as cumin) together, to speed up the process.
3. Remove pan from heat. Toast ground spices (turmeric, and anything else you used a ground version of) for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, and remove from the skillet.
4. Grind liquorice root in a spice mill or coffee grinder until as fine as possible, then pass it through a sieve to remove larger pieces. Return those pieces to the mill and grind again. This is done separately because liquorice root can be tough to grind!
5. Grind all spices in a spice mill until fine. Pass through a sieve. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Posting more about my modern AU head canons, so if anyone is interested in rp-ing this idea (and making any desired changes) 👀👀 hmu
Okay, so Steddyhands is the main focus, and they’ve all been together for a bit. Ed and Izzy knew each other for a long time in their more chaotic years. Their initial relationship was pretty toxic, and one Ed would probably be unlikely to have even defined as a relationship back then. But then he meets Stede.
Ed and Izzy’s relationship has always been open and they didn’t communicate well, so one day, Izzy just starts hearing about this Stede guy and already hates how Ed will talk about his one night stands. But then this one never goes away. And then Izzy meets him, and he gets it, and that makes shit so much worse.
Stuff happens, the three eventually get together. But Ed and Izzy are still themselves, and Stede is reeling from a super recent divorce. He decides to take a break in the relationship, which sends Ed into a tailspin. One night, he’s drinking and his other past vices, and he tells Izzy he’s riding to Stede’s on his motorcycle. Izzy tries to stop him, and finds himself between a rock and a hard place. He elects to go with him to keep Ed stable. But drinking combined with a wet highway and a dark night results in an accident that nearly kills Ed and costs Izzy his leg. Through a lot of communication and healing (and admittedly following a suicide attempt on Izzy’s part), all three reconnect and deepen their relationship to one another.
In the present of the narrative, Ed owns Blackbeard’s Bar and Grill, a seafood restaurant specializing in exactly what you’d imagine. Izzy and Stede occasionally help out when the man accidentally gives too many members of his staff the same day off. His logo on the t-shirts is fucking hideous.
Stede is an archivist on the subject of historical furniture, antiquities, and fashion. He recreates items he learns about and provides them to various museums, stores, and playhouses. He’s famous with a very select group of people and often gets into weird forum arguments with strangers online.
Izzy is an editor and romance novelist under a pen name. He is notably very popular among gay men and straight women for his dark gay romance titles, “bodice rippers”, and other such works. Stede was a big fan of his before even knowing Izzy was the writer. He keeps his personal life very private.
Until he’s given a new agent. Lucius Spriggs is eager to get people to know Israel Hands. He tells their shared boss that it’s simply a matter of getting Izzy to reconnect with a new collection of fans, but really some part of him thinks the chaos would be hilarious.
So Izzy finds himself and his husband heading off a traveling book tour for his newest title, all while the three of them are reeling from the newest bit of news - Izzy’s pregnancy. Do they know the other father? No. Has Izzy been totally honest about his complicated feelings? No. Do they know what to expect when Izzy’s expecting? No, but Ed and Stede are almost certain there is a book to help with that. 😊😊

Mass Effect Headcanon: Grocery stores
With drones being able to deliver groceries from warehouses quickly to people‘s homes, some people do not bother to go grocery shopping in actual grocery stores anymore, instead ordering everything online. Yet, a lot of people still go grocery shopping the traditional way, preferring to have the experience of being inside a place where they have the array of products physically in front of them.
On the Citadel, no grocery store or even grocery store section, officially speaking, caters to a specific species.
There‘s no store or store section for humans, or for hanar, or for asari.
But, just like there‘s Asian or Turkish or Mexican food stores on Earth, there are stores that mainly offer the food of a certain region.
It could be Citadel’s Amayi Market’s Dekuuna specialities section, or their departments of Palaven or Earth foods.
Or it could be Illuminated Delicaties, a grocery store aimed towards anyone who wishes to shop for Kahje foods. While many of the visitors will be hanar, it is also filled with plenty of other species who just like fish and seafood.
Larger Citadel food stores (supermarkets) typically feature cafès with fresh foods, including hot meals.

July 13th, 2024 星期六 - 西門地 + 東三水街市場_新富市場 + Taipei Botanical Gardens
We met around 9:30 am and headed on the green line to the blue transfer station where we rode the MRT to the Longshan stop. As soon as we got out of the station, the Longshan Daoist/Buddhist temple was in view. It was very beautiful and colorful. First, we headed to the wet market. By the name, I assumed “wet market” meant mainly fish/seafood but it was just an outdoor market selling fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and other goods. Our tour guide said that when he was a kid, he would go with his grandmother. It heavily reminded me of how I would go to very similar markets with my grandmother in Jamaica. As we entered through the dragon side, the wide variety of fresh produce could be seen everywhere you look. I noted that it was mostly older people buying and selling at the market. Our tour guide noted that there are increasingly less and less wet markets in Taiwan, as many opt to go to grocery stores instead.
After making our way through the market, we headed towards Longshan temple. A place of worship mixed with the Daoist and Buddhist beliefs, it was extremely colorful and adorned with porcelain, gold, and jade. As we walked through the temple, we got to see and try out using the moon stones to answer our questions. In the Daoist part of the temple, there were several shrines for different gods such as the gods of love, war, and health/wellness. There was also an area where one can buy talismans/good luck charms. I definitely want to return tomorrow to buy good luck charms for my friends and family.
After the temple, we rode the MRT again and ended up at the Taipei Botanical Gardens which we walked through before ending up at a museum for a famous Taiwanese Architect. After exploring the museum, we took the MRT once more and ended back in Ximendi, where class was dismissed. Afterwards, I went along with some of my classmates to eat hot pot. After lunch, the girls all went shopping around Ximendi for some cut clothes. We also colored the Red House and surrounding flea market shops before returning home on the MRT green line. Before entering the hotel, we stopped at a Family Mart so I could buy a special Kyoho grape redbull—something we definitely don’t have back home.
Academic Reflection
I was very interested in the wet markets we visited today. I ended up doing some research on wet markets in Taiwan, especially the differences between those in Taiwan and those in Mainland China. I found that apparently that has been a large increase in regulation of the wet markets in recent years. Live-killing of animals and the selling of live animals have been cracked down on, but you can still buy snakes, turtles, and live fish sometimes. I also found online how the Jianguo Wet Market in Taichung was torn down and re-made into a building that even includes industrial refrigerators and breastfeeding rooms.
Our tour guide also told us about a jade market that happens on the weekends a wet market like the one we visited today. Turns out it is the a similar area to the Jianguo market previously mentioned. This immediately sparked my interest because one of the things I really wanted to buy in Taiwan is jade jewelry. At this market, one can also buy an array of gorgeous flowers and plants. Located in Da’an and open from 9am to 6pm, there are about 700 stalls selling many goods from and flowers, to ceramics and furniture. I most definitely plan on going tomorrow to buy jade jewelry.

➪ CLARENCE WHITAKER
if you’re hearing ALONE by CAT BURNS playing, you have to know CLARENCE WHITAKER (THEY/HE; GENDERFLUID) is near by! the 27 year old FLORIST at STEM & STAMEN has been in town for, like, BASICALLY HIS ENTIRE LIFE. they’re known to be quite SELF- CENTERED, but being HARD- WORKING seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble EVAN MOCK. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those NOSE ALWAYS IN A BOOK, CHARCOAL AND INK- STAINED HANDS, DARK EYELINER, TORN- UP BAND TEES and VINTAGE HORROR CINEMA SNOBBERY vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around AVONLEA GARDENS long enough!
name: clarence "clare" whitaker
age: 27
d.o.b. & sign: september 29th, libra
occupation: florist at stem & stamen, freelance artist.
hometown: hemlock springs
gender identity & sexuality: genderfluid, bi.
relationship status: single, hopeless romantic (but quiet about it).
likes: scary movies, tea, working in their garden, the smell of acrylic paint, loud music.
dislikes: being disrespected/talked down to, seafood, minor inconveniences, sensationalized podcasts, gender norms.
CWs for mentions of parental / sibling death, car accidents.
The sad truth is, Clarence never really knew their parents. They know what happened to them, of course; he knows that they died when he was just a little kid, and that he had an older sister who died with them. He was raised by his grandmother after the accident and grew up in a house seemingly enshrined to their memories, from the pictures on the walls to the untouched bedrooms that the two of them simply didn't disturb. Their grandmother wasn't a terrible guardian. She loved them-- but she was deeply drowning in grief, and she never really seemed to recover from it. She'd get this sad look on her face when she looked at them for too long, patting their cheeks and telling them how much they looked like their mother, her daughter; or sometimes, more rarely, she'd comment on a trait she thought they might have inherited from their father. It was a strange feeling, living in the shadows of ghosts.
Clarence never had a particularly strong attachment to the concept of gender. It was pretty early on when he decided it seemed more like a construct of society than something he felt personally attached to, and he tends to alternate between feeling masculine, feminine, and removed from gender altogether. It's been a truth they've always been fairly apathetic about, not very picky about pronouns in general but happy so long as people alternate them. They've been out for as long as they can remember.
Growing up, he was always something of a wallflower: connecting with people has never been his forte. They're a lot more comfortable with their nose in a book and sticking to the sidelines. He excelled at school-- in another life, he could have been one of those kids skipping grades, graduating young and earning college credits before he was even out of high school. If they'd had the means, they could have gone to any ivy league. They're happy enough to have a BsC in botany from a community college, though, and perhaps their greatest passion in life is cultivating and caring for the various plants and flowers in their garden and greenhouse. In addition to their work at the shop, they run a little online store selling rare plants, and aside from that they have a deep- seated love for art, although that's more of a hobby than a job at this point, something he does to vent emotion and express himself.
Clarence's grandmother passed when he was twenty- three and left everything to him. The house, a modest little two bedroom, her little old lady car that he refuses to drive, everything, and most of it he didn't have the first clue what to do with. He's never been much of a partier, but he enjoys hosting friends for dinner (he likes cooking!) or garden parties or to watch movies. He falls under the ambivert umbrella- possessing more introvert tendencies, but they do need quality time with the people in their circle to keep from disintegrating into a sad pile of sludge.
Clarence enjoys a quiet life. They're a very tender soul, a good friend, a great listener, though they have to fight the urge to withdraw into their own little world sometimes. They're very dedicated to all of the things that they do, and if they're not posted up in front of an easel or sketchbook, working in their garden or the shop, they can be found catching a movie (and blogging their opinion about it), scrounging around bookstores, or cooking.
