Okay, but I love that??

I think if this is almost like an alternate second season, with Ed still “in his redemption arc” with the crew, Lucius would assume that Izzy would be fully inclined to not forgive Ed. But instead of the blasé he gives in the show, Izzy basically avoids giving an explicit answer at all, which has Lucius questioning things. After all, Izzy surely must be on his side and not thing Ed’s apology is enough. So why won’t he say it, especially with how fucked up he was upon their return to their ship!?

Though he won’t claim it is, his investigation (read: stalking) of Izzy is a means of taking up his attention. Maybe it’s after he argues with Pete about needing to move on from what happened and after he pushes Ed overboard that he talks with Izzy and they have their exchange about the shark. And yeah, it helps Lucius move on too, but maybe Izzy also says something that puzzles him. Like that moving on is a necessity, or is something Izzy has no choice but to do. And the wording nags at him enough that he tries to put together clues. Idk what the clues would be (anyone lmk because y’all know I love delving into this stuff!), but eventually, he catches Izzy in private, hand at his middle and/or talking to himself that it clicks and without thinking, Lucius does one of his little cries of surprise that has both of them started. Izzy instantly turns on him with a sword and Lucius frantically tries to lie or insist he can keep a secret. Then—

L: “Oh my God, why does this keep happening!?”

I: “I don’t know what you think you saw, Spriggs—“

L: “Nothing! I didn’t see anything!”

I: “Those don’t sound like the words of an innocent man.”

However, as they argue, Lucius starts to get more comfortable, slowly realizing that Izzy wouldn’t kill him, not only after everything that happened on this ship, but also between them as survivors.

L: “Okay, okay, look. We both know you’re not going to kill me.”

(This immediately sets Izzy off, so he’s red in the face and putting the blade to Lucius’s neck)

L: “Are you going to explain what happened to me? Everyone will think it’s Blackbeard again if I disappear and you were the one who is all about moving on and blah blah blah.”

Izzy would reluctantly pull his blade and try not to spit at Lucius’s smirk.

“Anyway, it’s not a big deal. Not like we’re pirating much at the moment, so you’ve got time to do whatever you’re planning with… that.” He gestures vaguely at Izzy’s torso, which is is noticing looks a little different. “If anything, I’m intrigued. Who would you have even fucked on this ship to get in your state?” It’s even funny in a way, and he’s starting to laugh, which is enraging Izzy all the more, “I’d have thought the only person you’d let in there was…” And then it clicks. “HOLY FUCKING CHRIST—“

I love these ideas, @something-about-sunflowers . For Frenchie and his observations, I think he’d make tons of guesses about what it is first and get them all wrong before he finally gets it right for the weirdest reason. He initially thinks Izzy’s been poisoned by the crew and he tries to play detective to figure out who did it. Then he thinks maybe it’s a curse and tries to confer with Buttons on how to help him. Then, at some point, they’re at a port where he sees a stork (or a bird he mistakes for a stork) and instantly puts it together (though to be clear, he doesn’t think storks bring babies - “I know how babies are made; I’m not stupid. Storks are omens of babies to come, so it’s warning us that there’s gonna be a baby on the ship soon!”).

For Roach, I think it would either be like that one delightful comic where he busts out the super old-timey pregnancy test materials (I’m talking frogs and barley and shit) or he just notices how Izzy has cleared out his ginger stores more than usual and is needing shit for headaches and sleep and discomfort. It’s after yet another instance of Izzy refusing a meal that Roach asks him how pregnant he is, because he can’t get by on what meager amount he’s eating, which just sends Izzy into a mess. He’s very matter of fact about the whole thing because “hey, I’m a doctor, man”.

And finally, for Fang, I feel like it’d be kind of similar to Frenchie. He’s worked with Izzy for years and knows when things are off. And much as there are times he doesn’t care for the man, he does worry. Hell, maybe there were even past issues, previous miscarriages Fang had known about that Izzy didn’t realize he was aware of. But at some point, he corners Izzy to ask him about it, to ask if he’s okay, and it’s rather similar to that scene in the second season when Izzy falls apart because Fang knows him too well. And with everything going on since Stede’s return, he doesn’t know what to do. But at least Fang can be a small comfort 💕

Okay, but similar to previous iterations of the idea, I’d love to hear y’all’s thoughts. Let’s say Stede comes back, things are pretty okay (Stede may be pregnant as well in this iteration or not, up to you), Ed refuses to acknowledge what he and Izzy did in his absence (he may even refuse to acknowledge Izzy at all, I’m open to whatever), but Izzy quickly discerns that he’s pregnant with Ed’s child and does everything he can to keep it under wraps. Obviously, on this ship of chaos, he can’t.

Love when a belly is undeniably "pregnant-shaped".

Like, pregnancy looks different on different body types. A 9 pound baby carries differently on someone 5'2" than it does on someone 6'2". The weight distributes differently, the womb itself is higher or lower, sometimes on the same person in different pregnancies....

But I love, love, love when no matter how it sits or weighs or is covered, it just LOOKS pregnant. It is undeniably full of fluid and a baby (or more), and has grown and swelled in such a way that it can't be anything else. That's not fat, or gas, or a big dinner, that's a pregnant tummy.

Absolutely divine.

Here’s the thing - Steddyhands is easily my favorite ship, but I also love other ones on the show and love how every character would interact in the context of a pregnancy arc for that group. Y’all know I just love to analyze how such an additional plot device would impact the narrative. For example, these two:

Beyond the fact that I am very fond of Frenchie and Wee John as a ship, I think their interactions on the context of Izzy and/or Stede getting pregnant would be delightfully silly and fun.

Frenchie has his belief systems and concerns, so it’s to be expected that he’d have thoughts on the matter. He’s constantly insisting that Izzy can’t go into storage or anywhere with spices, as it’ll make him sneeze the baby’s brains out, and that Stede needs to eat a rabbit’s foot every month to undo any bad luck put upon the baby. He’s constantly crafting items that are supposed to ward off evil spirits and curses that seek out the unborn. And while both men think it’s ridiculous, there is a small part that finds it charming.

Wee John is sick to death of their pregnancy drama. I love the idea that his mother had a number of children, so he’s not new to the baby nonsense. If anything, he finds their floundering ridiculous. He rolls his eyes whenever Izzy goes on a moody tirade, even once picking him up and manhandling him back to his quarters to cut it off. He waves off Stede’s desire for cravings, pointing out that they’re in the middle of the fucking ocean and that’s not going to change because he feels he needs marmalade right then and there. He’s one of the few that doesn’t have the urge to coddle them and, if anything, it’s appreciated.

I was remembering and rereading content from “Worm Verse” (the ask ideas about Izzy finding out he’s pregnant when Stede is already having a as baby with Ed, and electing to hide it from them until after he gives birth), and I’m just questioning how things would go once it’s found out.

@ritalacochona and @circularcheez-it had amazing ideas, and I especially loved the consideration that Izzy locks himself away when Ed tries to find out what’s going on. But I’m also questioning how long that lasts and what the last straw is, especially when certain crew members are trying to hold Ed and Stede off. How do they make sure Izzy and Winifred/Worm eat? Or does Izzy refuse? Does Ed or Stede listen to Worm’s cries, hearing them mixed with their own son’s and acting with the knowledge (or lack thereof) of her care? What breaks the camel’s back, so to speak?
