Fountain of Frogs, Chapter 7/9: Heqet

Fic summary:

It is the middle of covid shutdown and former student activist Jaden McNeil finds himself living with his new friend and colleague, right wing Internet provocateur Nick Fuentes, after being expelled from Kansas State over online statements considered inflammatory. Overtaken with the isolation, the two begin a physical relationship. While Jaden is convinced it is just a temporary dalliance to fill the void and means nothing, as the next two years roll on, he finds that Nick became a bit more attached than he had hoped.

Not to downplay the devastating effects that online bigoted harassment can have, or to ignore how they are manifestations of broader and even more damaging systems of oppression, but some specific messages can use language that makes them impossible to take seriously. Like recently a mate showed me an anonymous message that contained a very nasty sentiment (basically that trans women aren't real women and t4t relationships are nothing but useless attempts to pretend otherwise) but it expressed this by using the phrase "huffing copium" and I could barely contain my laughter. Like it's a dumb thing to say in any situation but the specific context made it so much more ridiculous; acting like an authority on Lesbian relationships while using the language of a fucking channer. Like what's next are you gonna pwn t4t trans women by drawing them as a wojak?

The fact that this message started with "Trans women please start dating cis women" made it even funnier. Like it was coming from the world's most pathetic cis lesbian chaser, trying to "neg"* trans women into dating her or something. "Nooooo you trannies shouldn't date each other you need to date a real woman like me". Overall one of the most humiliating pieces of hatemail you could send

Of everything I've seen on tumblr the most profoundly offensive thing has been women, who consider themselves feminists, shrugging at, jeering, or laughing at USian women who are scared of Trump's second term. You know who you are and you can fuck yourselves. Women are dying because of actions he took while in office. He is killing women and he will kill more women. not gonna lie, as much as I support the idea of being critical of our language and how it translates to our perception of ideas that may be harmful or offensive, i.e. casually ableist language, I also think some people are too sensitive to exist on this earth, and their pragmatism and charisma are severely harmed by the way they perfectly play into the stereotype of the sensitive snowflake that reactionaries think of everyone left of center as. It is in fact not inherently reactionary to be kinda edgy, and tumblr leftie culture simultaneously embraces and rejects this in a super dissonant way.

AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

Recently I just can't stop having a bad mood! I just don't know what it is :/ I am trying to focus on the things that make me happy and combat my wish to vent and turn irritating things into positive ones but every single good thing improves my mood for maybe like 3 minutes, and then I think about things that make me angry ANYWAY! I want to be around people but I can't because if I keep talking about things that make me angry - minor or big - I'll just exhaust them. But I've been trying to focus on good things for a while now and now it feels like it is a daily hard battle.

I really need to either finally have a mental breakdown (but I can't control when it happens, you know?) so I can cry, or have a justified reason to get angry that won't feel like petty over-reacting on my half. Hhhhrg

isn’t it absolutely fucking ridiculous how much neonazi and alt right slogans have infiltrated modern memes. i need to catch myself regularly to stop from saying “reject modernity embrace tradition” or “millions must [action]” as a shorthand, funny way to react to stuff. and somet8mes they still slip through, even if i recognize that i don’t want to repeat these slogans even in an innocuous sense because i know they are dogwhistles. it’s honestly just awful and odd to think about
