KAIJUNE 2024 #3: CANOJAHARIE
[CONTENT WARNING OUTSIDE OF EPISTOLARY KAYFABE: THIS STORY DEALS WITH THEMES OF SUICIDE AND DEPRESSION]
-------------------------------------------------------------
You probably don't know who I am, but know that I didn't come here expecting to leave here.
I don't want to pity-party here, you know the drill with cases like me, the kind of autistic that gets into gifted classes while ending up unemployable, parents who let me linger as a NEET even as they wanted me to be someone I couldn't, privileged enough to not be worthy of pity because at least I was allowed to linger but enough of an anxiety-autistic-executive-dysfunction unemployable wreck to be unable to dig myself out.
The usual sad white cismale-ish failennial sob story. Even still, I could have gone along fine. I could've probably survived up to around 40 like this before going out. It was what happened to her that brought me here. I knew her by her handle most of the days I talked to her, PinkJirachi02 if you want to know, but I want you to remember, her name was Maria.
Do not forget her, even if you forget me, even if you forget the rest of this letter, do not forget that her name was Maria and she believed in everyone. She believed in me. But she's gone now. If she couldn't be saved, what hope was there for me?
I was never a good artist. I dreamed of being an artist, but I never could get there. But if I was going to die, at least I could die artfully, here.
The haze of the forest was as clear as a dream when I walked in. I knew I was taking the right direction when the trees began to block out the sun, and yet the light still came from somewhere around there.
There were pools of tar, but they were... alive. Like in a memory where things blurred together. The tar dripping from trees merged with the bark, the babbling brooks and bubbling pitch harmonious, the bones I saw moved like things alive and happy but not as their constituent parts had moved. It was beautiful, in a way. A smell of tar that mixed with the scent of the place as it smelled of the forest and earth in all the ways tar did not.
You couldn't see them if you weren't looking for them. I've never been observant myself. But it was my last walk. I might as well observe. Until I didn't observe the reason why I had come here, resting, peacefully. A temple to creation that walked like a beast, tarry back and scarred horns, great paws and the bones of the past, pawing as if they were dreaming. Until they twitched alert.
I walked forward. The creature moved and the earth shook. It turned its head, a skeletal face with the sad smile of the dead. I wasn't afraid to die But he just... looked at me, for a while. Tail whipping back and forth, small flecks of tar still dripping. Unmoving, staring.
For once in my life, I took the first move. I ran and jumped, into the bones, grasping; flailing; before he could move, and gave myself unto the tar.
It took me unto itself, the bones, the eras past. I could see the earth, changing, life and death merging together, plants dying reborn as tar, bones of the dead given life by the ages. And I saw myself.
But I didn't see the pain. I saw those late nights with friends online, watching and laughing at shitty movies. I saw those days I made my masterpieces of cut up toy parts and epoxy putty. I saw my city, the trips to the old theatre for the all-night horrorthon, the game store where I volunteered to paint terrain. I saw the people who loved me.
And I knew right there that I didn't want to die. I want to live. I want to live, so badly, so deeply, but I couldn't live with this downward spiral where this world I love kept dying or being murdered by the loveless, something had to change, but in change there is life, and I wanted that change, because I wanted to live...
...And then, I was in that forest. Outside of the beast, no tar on my clothes. It was looking at me. Into my eyes. And it said something, in a low rumbling voice that shook the forest.
"GO. BACK. TO GO. FORWARD..."
And with that it went, and the forest went with it. I felt something on my left arm, and I looked at it. There was something very different in its place.
It's funny, I'd brought this paper here to write a suicide note, but I'd forgotten to write it before jumping in. But I guess it serves a purpose now. If you see Andrea; handle Datajunk, or Robbie; handle RonaldMcVore, or any of the others from the Bowling Alley on Discord, tell 'em I'm going to Tucson. For Maria's sake. For our sake. I'm keeping our promise...
-[There is no name attached to the note, just an indecipherable signature and; on another page the print of a paw with a thumb and four fingers and yet unlike anything else human]
----------------------------
Ability Notes- You know what hot tar does to living things? Now imagine that but paranatural and with thousands of living(?) bones in it. Do not grapple Canojaharie. And yes, it can also projectile vomit the tar.and leave puddles of it around as traps. Fun!
It also subtly alters the world and organisms around it into its 'image," mostly temporarily but sometimes permanently if something gets a full blast of it and leaves, and though this is usually negligible in a kaiju battle scale, it can make a difference. It can also gain a... simulacra of certain abilities of a dead organism if it absorbs the bones therein, and whether it has access to this abilities... varies, it is speculated based on the parabiological processes few have come along to study.
Bonus Trivia: Nobody's really sure whether the tar or the bones are the "real" Canojaharie, given that "mind-melds" where the participants survive are rare and rarer still is any useful data retrieved. The amount of tar it contains within it is significantly larger than its massive bulk should physically contain, but then again kaiju tell the laws of physics to take a flying leap as a matter of course, so...
---------------------------
So, another one I made with a broken Battle Cat figure, a bunch of black caulk, lots of dino skeleton figurines, parts from some Halloween skeletons and two nails for horns. A design I'm proud of, though shoutout to @thehungryreaderer for giving me the song to name 'em after.
I hope the protag didn't come off as too cringeworthy, because given how they... well, I've never attempted suicide, but a lot of that comes from my own experience, if you couldn't tell. Also, there's foreshadowing in the story for another entry coming later, but you'll just have to wait and see about that...
And, in the grand Kaijune tradition, this character and all related narrative elements are under a CC-BY 4.0 license, as long as I, Thomas F Johnson, am credited as their creator. Have fun!

i don’t want to be a NEET anymore please help
my life is so boring, i lost my job last april, i live in america and have been job searching ever since but every place i’ve applied to does not get back to me
i am autistic so it is hard for me to job search as it is, i’ve mostly been applying to cafes and other things that i know won’t be too mentally draining on me compared to something like a factory job i already feel exhausted all the time
i take online classes and only have my drivers permit, so i don’t get out much
only time i do get out is on friday or saturday, my friends are part of a band that performs at a local venue but recently i heard word the band might come to an end. that is absolutely terrifying to me it is the only place i can go out to and feel comfortable, the only place i know familiar faces and can be social
i don’t know how to make new friends, i need to find ways to make friends and go outside and do things that i actually like going outside right now always feels like a chore i want to be around people my age
please give me advice? is there some kind of secret to making friends? how can i get outside the house and not hate myself

NET Simplified: A Step-by-Step Approach to Excellence
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the maximum competitive examinations in India, serving because the gateway for students intending to pursue undergraduate medical and dental publications. Each yr, lakhs of candidates appear for this exam with hopes of securing a seat in prestigious scientific faculties across the u . S .. The declaration of NEET effects is a momentous occasion for those college students, as it determines their future professional paths and academic possibilities. In this newsletter, we delve into numerous elements of the NEET consequences, exploring their importance, the procedure of result announcement, and their impact on students’ lives.
NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST RESULTS
Significance of NEET Results
NEET effects are important for college kids entering the clinical and dental fields. The ratings obtained in this examination shape the idea for admission to MBBS, BDS, and different allied health applications supplied by using establishments in India. Additionally, NEET consequences are also taken into consideration for admissions to AYUSH courses (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) and veterinary packages in a few states. For students meaning to have a look at overseas, NEET qualification is often mandatory in search of admission to scientific faculties in countries just as the Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, and China.
Given the high stakes, the NEET consequences hold significant importance. They reflect the fruits of months, frequently years, of rigorous guidance. The rankings no longer determine whether a candidate qualifies for admission but additionally impact the selection of university and specialization, putting the level for his or her professional adventure.
The Process of NEET Result Declaration
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is answerable for engaging in the NEET exam and asserting its consequences. The process begins with the discharge of the provisional solution key, permitting applicants to project discrepancies or errors. This guarantees transparency and accuracy in the evaluation procedure.
Once the objections are reviewed, the very last answer secret's posted, and the results are prepared accordingly. NEET results are commonly announced online at the official NTA internet site. Candidates can get entry to their results by getting into their software quantity, date of delivery, and protection pin. The result consists of the following information:
Candidate’s Name and Roll Number: Identifying facts for the candidate.
Scorecard: Sectional and standard ratings obtained in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Percentile Score: The percentage of applicants who scored under the candidate.
All India Rank (AIR): The usual rank secured through the candidate among all check-takers.
Category Rank: Rank accomplished in the candidate’s reservation category, if relevant.
Qualifying Status: Whether the candidate has cleared the cutoff criteria.
Additionally, NTA releases a benefit list for All India Quota (AIQ) seats, which includes the top-performing applicants eligible for counseling underneath the centralized admission process.
Understanding NEET Cutoffs
The NEET cutoff is an important issue of the outcomes, determining the eligibility of candidates for admission. The cutoff scores vary each year primarily based on elements consisting of:
Exam Difficulty Level: A harder paper typically outcomes in decrease cutoffs.
Number of Candidates: Higher opposition often increases the cutoff.
Availability of Seats: Limited seats in medical schools have an effect on the minimum qualifying marks.
Reservation Policy: Cutoffs fluctuate for numerous classes, along with General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS.
However, securing the cutoff percentile does not guarantee admission; applicants have to also rank high enough to secure a seat in their preferred college.
Counseling and Seat Allocation
Post the announcement of consequences, the counseling procedure starts offevolved, controlled via the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for AIQ seats and by using the respective country government for kingdom quota seats. The counseling method entails:
Registration: Candidates check in on the designated portals for AIQ or kingdom quota counseling.
Choice Filling and Locking: Students choose their favored schools and courses.
Seat Allotment: Based on NEET rankings, ranks, and options, seats are allotted.
Counseling is performed in multiple rounds, consisting of a mop-up round to fill vacant seats. For college students who are no longer stable for admission within the preliminary rounds, those extra rounds provide another opportunity.
Challenges Faced by Way of Students
The declaration of NEET results brings a combination of emotions for college kids. While a few have fun with their fulfillment, others face the frustration of no longer assembling their expectancies. Here are a few common challenges faced by way of students:
High Competition: With lakhs of candidates vying for a restricted quantity of seats, securing admission will become a frightening task.
Financial Constraints: Medical education is steeply priced, and no longer all students can find the money for non-public college prices, even though they qualify.
Stress and Anxiety: The strain of acting nicely in NEET and the anticipation of effects can take a toll on college students’ mental fitness.
Limited Opportunities: Many deserving candidates miss out on admission due to marginal differences in scores.
Success Stories and Inspirational Tales
Amidst the extreme opposition, NEET effects additionally spotlight inspiring tales of perseverance and determination. Every 12 months, we come upon applicants who overcome massive barriers to acquire their desires. These tales function as motivation for destiny aspirants, emphasizing the significance of tough paintings, willpower, and resilience.
For example, students from rural backgrounds, fighting economic hardships and lack of assets, often come to be pinnacle performers, proving that dedication can conquer any task. Similarly, applicants who take multiple tries to crack NEET exemplify the price of patience.
The Way Forward for Aspirants
For college students who do no longer gain their favored consequences, it's far essential to bear in mind that this is not the end of the road. Many applicants opt for a drop 12 months to prepare more efficaciously and improve their rankings. Coaching centers, online mastering systems, and self-take a look at strategies can help them enhance their coaching.
Moreover, exploring alternative profession paths in allied fitness sciences, biotechnology, or public health can also be worthwhile. These fields provide promising possibilities and allow students to make contributions meaningfully to the healthcare region.

can you tell me what your routine was like when you were in 11th or 12th grade? or basically when you were preparing for neet? alsoo, how did you even do both your school works & your neet?? did you go for any coaching?
Sorry if this seems annoying 😭 i am currently preparing for neet & it's such a headache, like i can barely manage my schoolwork + my neet preparations 😭😭
adding both the asks here because the context was quite similar. i've said this before that you need to find and maintain your own discipline and can't follow someone else's schedule, but i hope my sched can help you navigate around ><
11th & 12th SCHEDULE
the remarkable thing about my senior high was covid ! i never attended a single offline class in those two years— only practicals and exams. that gave me a lot of time to focus on competitive exams, even though i lowkey fucked up my 11th, i was on track the next year.
school work wasn't an issue with online classes. i barely attended those and mostly focused on my coaching institute ! i went to a local coaching, although very reputed, and bought allen's distance learning course for questions. unfortunately, i wasn't able to appear for neet the very year i passed 12th due to a minor surgery. so i took a year to prepare for neet and my schedule was as follows :
6 : 00 am - 7 : 00 am — waking up, going for a walk, exercising, whatever morning routine i had went there. i kept it relatively short because i wanted to put as many hours as possible in studies.
7 : 30 am - 10 : 00 am or 12 : 00 noon — studies ! i usually had my breakfast during that thirty minutes gap between first and second slot. i not, i sat down to study early and got up for breakfast around eight or nine.
12 : 00 noon - 2 : 00 pm — break yayaya >< i watched tv, used socmed and had lunch during this time. again, i wouldn't take this break if i woke up late or got some work that i wasn't able to finish. i left for classes at / around two ^_^
2 : 30 pm - 8 : 30 pm — my classes ! i joined allen last year since it's fifteen minutes to where i live and i needed some sort of guidance to proceed. after my classes, i got back home by nine, sometimes a bit late if i stayed back to discuss a few things with the teachers.
9 : 00 pm - 10 : 00 pm — dinner and rest after classes. tv, phone, or just helping mum in the kitchen if the day was good lmfao. i hate being in the kitchen :/
10 : 15 pm onwards — studies again :> fifteen minutes break to sort get my stuff and all. besides, my dad asks for every update of my day and what i have planned to study the next day etc etc. if my schedule was relaxed, i'd sleep by twelve or twelve thirty but as neet approached, i slept by two and woke up at around eight lmfao TT good thing was, i didn't have classes after february so i followed the same routine except, i started studying at nine after breakfast, till one, got up for lunch, then studies from two to six sometimes seven, an hour break for dinner ( had early dinner during that time ) then studied from either to two at night.
to the anon to asked how i write fics during classes : i had wednesdays off / tests so i used that one day to relax. i usually wrote on wednesdays, sometimes on other days when work load is way less and i mostly queued by posts since i had pre-written ones from when i had time. sometimes, when i finished by studies before 1 am, i took 30 mins to write if i felt like it. besides, my uni was well ... it wasn't my focus. i took biotech and kept it on the side incase i can't do med. lectures were online, no one demanded full attendance, i got notes from friends and only gave tests. my focus were these pre-med classes i attended, and the sched is what i mentioned above.
also, my study hours are higher during classes. i barely have time to write, so i'm not active every single day as you might have noticed before may this year. the time table i mentioned above is an example of timeslots and how i used to manage. 10 hrs avg is now, give and take one or two here and there. also, i never stick to one schedule. i might have exams again this month and i might just dip completely. if not, i won't have to study at all and i might just stay on blr all day.
for neet : juggling between school and coaching can be hard but i don't think i can give appropriate advice since i never had to experience that. if you're in 11th, focus more on coaching ( because 11th science is more difficult imo, and more fundamental when it comes to neet ) and if you're in 12th focus more on school because of boards. the best thing to do is finish chapters ahead of time. say you're learning mechanics in school and thermodynamics in coaching. try to finish thermodynamics from school textbooks as well so you won't have issues when they teach it in school and can focus on what they're teaching in coaching. utilize your breaks and holidays to finish easy chapters, especially biology as a whole and organic and inorganic chem since there's nothing to do except remembering stuff.
this is so long TT i'm sorry and i hope this is helpful even though it's lowkey all over the place .. i'm not as organised as it seems and my sched varies a lot depending upon the day, if i have to go out, tests, etc etc.

being a neet doesnt sound half bad. i dont have any reasons to get out of my house anyways 🤷♂️ ill lie and say im taking online classes or something, not like my lifespan worries me. plus my dad is willing to support me economically for some time so that should get me covered for the year and a half of life i plan to keep on living
#rambles#ive honestly been obsessed with the idea of everyone building such a mountain of hate towards me#that i finally have no fucking responsibility to be around and can finally fuck off and die somewhere#since i was like. 5 too#im mentaly well <3<3<3#ask to tag#tumblr is so nice because no one reads these so i can just literally say absolutely fucking anything. and NOBODY will care

I am moving out from here on 14th April. My brother has his jee on 13th after which we will head back home to Durgapur. I have lived here in odisha, my native state for three years now. As a child, we never visited other tourist places much. We only got time to visit our grandparents and cousins. My cousins lived where I live now: Nalco, Angul. I wanted to live here when I was a kid just to stay with my cousins and play with them until I was forced to stay in odisha instead of completely my high school in kolkata like we were supposed too and then living here in Angul was suggested by chacha chachi, so we did, with hopes of getting something good out of it.
I am here only for nine more days. I had arrived here on 15th August where the physics sir had told us to quickly study S block and give a test in two hours. I remember how I felt like crying. We had just reached this place, barely opened our luggage, and I was hearing this neet jee for an hour and then a test. I wanted to sleep, but somehow I studied and I had scored really bad. Like I do often, I ended up crying in the car. I was like mummy dance class band kar dete hai abhi padhai pe hi dhyan dungi. For someone who loves dance a lot, I have told my mother to cancel dance classes because I thought that I wasn't good enough to do both because I was lacking in my studies, and as for every middle class person, job and money comes first and then your dreams until your job money dream everything lies in one single thing.
Well, my dance class continued, I gave my dance exam online, completed learning a few items too, wrote stories and studied hard. I have wasted time too by crying or by simply procrastinating or sometimes I would engage myself in dance or writing for a much longer time than scheduled. And now all of this will end. I will wrap my things again and go home. Now I have lived in durgapur for only a month. I loved it so I am looking forward to it now.
It feels surreal. I wanted to move out of this place so badly in the initial months. I still want too. But now looking back, this experience has made me feel grateful and wiser about so many things. My school friends from kolkata still complain that why I had to go to odisha and stay there, but I am happy I did. As a tenth grader, I lived in my own world and had a pink dream idea of being with my friends, wearing fashionable clothes, attending parties and fests and studying ofc, nothing much.
Over here each and every expectation, every dream was broken. Like they say, to find yourself one needs to lose themselves too, which I did. That was a really dark phase. Alone, with no one and no idea how and why is this happening to you. But some time later I rediscovered myself again. It was art, poetry, stories and dance. It was me connecting back to God, whom I had forgotten in the glitz and glamour of big cities. I read the same ramayana mahabharata and folk tales, but I had begun finding learning lessons from them which as a child I was only enamoured by the story, the drama and visuals.
The things 13year old samridhi enjoyed, I no longer enjoy them anymore. The clothing, the music, the lifestyle everything has taken a 360 degree turn. Once I enjoyed parties and loud music, we used to have some in kolkata sometimes and I loved it. Now, I don't think I can. I want to have friends and make memories and enjoy, but no longer with music drinks and stuff. Somewhere simple and meaningful.
I know that in the upcoming months there are going to be many changes, but these experiences shall stay with me and remind me to be humble and rooted to the ground. I have seen the rich, sparkles and exciting rush and also the slow life, muddy roads, farms and simple people simple towns. There is still more to see in the near future, but to live through all this is a big thing for an 18 year old.
And if it were not sambalpur and angul, I wouldn't have known how strangers can be loving, how certain people hold such a great mark over you and your story, and how colourful life can be.

Inspired by @silver-strings-of-fate, here’s some headcanons that I have for a Futaba who’s older, in her mid 20′s at this point. This is inspired from the canon set of events, not the multiverse post strikers verse btw. That has a whole different set of headcanons I’ll do at some point.
She graduates top of her class with relative ease. Of course, she never participates in any school clubs or anything like that, just because of her lingering social anxiety.
Due to her skills, she’s easily accepted to a pretty prestigious university where she works on her degree in computer science. On the side, she works on advancing the knowledge about the cognitive world, and learns more about how people are and what not.
She gets a proper diagnosis of autism because her mom never got her one as a kid, and she had an inkling that was the case. Just never really looked into it until now.
Her college life, living by herself for the first time goes...not great. School work wise she does just fine, but it’s the socializing, having to buy stuff on her own and all that, along with cooking that causes her to freak out. It’s stressful and she nearly drops out multiple times as a result.
She ends up with a master’s degree in computer science and a much better understanding of the cognitive world. Though with the metaverse gone she doesn’t really get much use of that nowadays.
Her attempts at getting a place of her own end up not going too well. Plus she would hear that Sojiro retired and decided to head back to Yongen-Jaya, living in her old room again to help him out. There’s also a fear of him dying that swirls through her head.
Due to the fact that all of her old friends are scattered about for a while now, she ends up having some of her old neet habits. Not out of guilt or anything, but because adulthood is a tough time to make friends and such.
She works a remote IT job at a high end company and makes a good bit of money with her efficient code and security practices. Plus she keeps up with the emergence of AI and other advanced stuff.
She’s much better with handling social situations but doesn’t go out unless she has to still. Which she does so Sojiro can retire comfortably.
There’s a part of her that wishes she could go back to her childhood, because despite having a good job and a decent life overall, she just feels increasingly lonely and yearning for her friends.
Depending on her mood, she either keeps her orange dyed hair, or lets it go back to the original black color.
Still a troll online, but a lot calmer in real life, mostly preferring to be invisible and not seen by most.
Although, what she really wants is somebody who loves her and wants to be with her forever. She never got that and now feels like she’s wasting her life and doesn’t really have any legacy.
Despite all that though, she keeps her head up high, knowing that life continues to change and eventually something will happen in her life for the better.

A good coaching institute offers expert faculty, well-structured study plans, and regular mock tests, ensuring you stay ahead of the competition. If you’re serious about achieving your dream of becoming a doctor, choosing the right coaching institute is the first step toward success.
What Makes a Coaching Institute for NEET Stand Out?

A strong coaching institute for NEET is built on the foundation of its faculty. Experienced teachers simplify complex topics, provide shortcut techniques, and ensure students understand even the most difficult concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Additionally, doubt-clearing sessions and interactive teaching methods help students develop a deep understanding of the syllabus, making exam preparation more effective.
2. Comprehensive Study Material
High-quality study material plays a crucial role in NEET preparation. The best coaching institutes provide:
NCERT-based notes covering all key topics
Practice question banks for every chapter
Mock tests and previous years' NEET papers
Formula sheets and revision guides for quick reference
Having well-structured study material helps students revise efficiently and stay focused on important topics.
Why Enrolling in a Coaching Institute for NEET is Beneficial

Unlike self-study, where doubts can slow down progress, a coaching institute for NEET ensures students receive personalized attention. One-on-one mentoring, small group discussions, and doubt-solving sessions make it easier to clarify difficult concepts.
Whether it’s tricky physics problems or organic chemistry mechanisms, having access to experienced faculty ensures that no question goes unanswered.
2. Competitive Environment and Mock Tests
Studying in a competitive environment helps students stay motivated and perform better. Coaching institutes conduct weekly tests, practice quizzes, and full-length mock exams, which simulate the actual NEET experience.
Regular assessments:
Help students manage time effectively during the exam
Identify strengths and weaknesses
Build exam confidence and reduce stress
Practicing with timed tests also improves accuracy, ensuring students maximize their scores on the actual exam day.
How to Choose the Right Coaching Institute for NEET
1. Proven Track Record of Success
Before selecting a coaching institute, research its success rate. Look for institutes with:
A history of producing top-ranking students
Positive reviews from past students
Strong faculty with years of experience in NEET coaching
Checking testimonials and previous years' results can help you determine if an institute is the right fit for you.
2. Flexible Learning Options: Online and Offline
With the rise of digital learning, many coaching institutes now offer both classroom and online courses. If you prefer to study from home, look for an institute that provides:
Live online classes with real-time doubt-solving
Recorded video lectures for revision
Online test series for regular practice
A combination of traditional and online learning ensures students get the best of both worlds and can study at their own convenience.
Conclusion: Start Your NEET Journey with the Right Coaching
A coaching institute for NEET can be the key to unlocking your full potential. With expert teachers, structured study plans, and mock exams, the right institute helps you prepare efficiently and boost your confidence.
Take your time to research, choose wisely, and start your NEET preparation with the right guidance and strategy. With hard work and the right coaching, your dream of becoming a doctor is within reach!

Sword Art Online ソードアート・オンライン (Ep. 1-8)
After reading both Baudrillard’s Simulation and Simulacra and watching the first eight episodes of Sword Art Online (SAO), SAO seems to be the perfect anime representation of Baudrillard’s message. In the anime, the players are trapped in a virtual game world of Aincrad, where the line between reality and simulation completely blurs. They’re not just playing a game anymore, that their lives literally depend on their in-game actions. Actions like being attacked by a monster in the game quickly turned from entertaining to a matter of survival, making the simulated world more significant than their real lives outside.
I thought the anime made a very significant connection to the real-world Japan society of the rise of the otaku culture and the general public’s growing reliance on social media, where people immerse themselves in games, anime, and virtual worlds. More young people are choosing to stay indoors, diving into digital spaces where they can redefine themselves, much like Kirito and the other players in Aincrad. This makes me to also connection back to Eden of the East, where NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) are portrayed as being fully disconnected to the society. But both anime challenge that stereotype. In SAO, the virtual world becomes a place of growth, connection, and meaning, even more so than the "real" world they left behind.
This blurring of reality and simulation is also shown through Kirito’s journey. In Aincrad, Kirito was able to builds deep, meaningful relationships that rival anything he could have experienced in the real world. For instance, he forms a bond with Sachi, a guild member who fears death. Despite Kirito’s best efforts to protect her, Sachi tragically dies during an unexpected encounter in a dungeon maze, leaving a lasting impact on him. This loss feels as profound as any real-life tragedy, showing how the simulation has taken over as his emotional reality. Another example is his growing connection with Asuna, where their partnership evolves from mere cooperation in battle to a genuine, heartfelt relationship. These connections highlight how the virtual world isn’t just a game, it’s where Kirito experiences true companionship, love, and loss, which aligns with Baudrillard’s idea that simulations can become more real than reality itself.
I am interested to hear Professor Smith’s interpretation of the text and SAO in class tomorrow.
