My goal was to grade 10 papers today. I really really reeeeaaaallyyyyy didn't want to and had to fight tooth and nail through the executive dysfunction. I clawed my way through at a pace of one essay per hour. I hated it, but I did it!

It's not even the fact that I reached my goal that made me happy (it was arbitrary). It's the fact that I'm even capable of getting through difficult things I don't want to do at all. I have been working on my self-discipline and focus for years and I'm very proud of myself for how far I've come.

#adhd problems #considering that 9 years ago i was failing several university classes due to undiagnosed ADHD #and in the past 3 years I've grown enough to do an online master's degree which required me to write a 12k word dissertation by myself #and in the past 5 months i started a job as a university professor and i have to be so self-motivated #i am solely responsible for making lesson plans and doing all the grading #grades are due August 17 and i have graded 30/40 essays as of today #if i can get 5 more done tomorrow and 5 on the weekend i can submit them on Sunday #which is a whole week early and was my carefully scheduled goal #so yeah the fact that i can force myself to stick to my schedule even though i don't HAVE to? 9 years ago me could never #personal #and tbh this is my version of self-care and it sucks but i can do it #i will take great pains to never let myself feel the way i did in 2015 when i flunked out of school #I'll get my grades in early so i can let myself enjoy the rest of the summer

i need a group socialisation-based hobby that gets me out of the house but they all cost money

#not an option!#i don't even know what i would do if i did have the money to attend some kind of hobby #i'm not really physically capable #everything online is like 'go to the gym or go to yoga classes or biking'#no. i need you to understand that i will not be doing that.#i guess there's the lgs but i feel like i would need to dress up as a boy to not end up having to stop going again #and lgs always feel like they already have very integrated communities that have gone for years #but even if i did go i would have to buy some kind of tcg deck or something #and then it would be wasted if i got scared off by not integrating or by someone making me uncomfy #anyway it all costs money so it's not worth thinking about but. i wish it was #puri rambles #the last time i did anything was group sewing lessons like 9 years ago but that cost a LOT of money if you wanted to #keep attending after the initial trial #it was really nice though #and had like an actual tangible result to take home with me

in theory there is a series of next classes on sewing machine use to take, featuring instructions on various techniques

but as far as i can tell learning to assemble a tote bag has taught me everything i need to assemble drawstring project bags, which is what i actually got into this to learn to make in the first place

so im just going to book sewing machine time for next week, pre-cut some fabric i already have at home according to a drawstring bag pattern i found, and just. try making things?

#the place where i took the class lets u rent sewing machine time so i. am just going to go for it #i like taking classes when im a complete beginner but for crafts i very quickly move to the stage where i would like to try generalizing #through a combination of Looking Online and Trying Stuff. and will come back for more direct instruction once i am truly stymied on a parti #ular skill or technique. i took one knitting class when i was 9 to make sure i could form stitches the right way round and otherwise am #committed to just finding stuff online and trying it and it always works out. and i feel this should work the same way.#box opener #feel free to recommend other things that i should feel ready to just try given that i have 'can sew a simple tote bag' capacities #is it too bold to make a run at an unlined pair of drawstring shorts? i have some to use as a model! does it definitely need elastic?? will #that be hard??? can i definitely not learn it from blogs do you think. because if i can im gonna

i mapped out the rest of my college classes and i'll be in the class of 2027! (or mid year class of '26) ;D

#two years late but hey it's better than nothing! ;)#i have 9 more classes plus 4 elective credits #i'm still figuring out my electives so it could end up being mid year '26 #i would be like senpai if i went that route! ;D #no matter what i choose i have the path down! ;D #psychology american music computer stuff astronomy and early history are in my future!#and poetry/a stupid math class that i already signed up for ;)#edit: i realized that i needed a quantitative science class so it's class of '27 for sure! ;)#here's hoping the astronomy classes will be online by 2026 because they're so early/late! :o #spring 2025 might be psych art history and asl which is exciting! :D #just need to get through fall for the true fun to begin! ;)

#personal #cannot finish college/uni cannot find a job bc poor mental health being dependent on parents still how pathetic #sometimes im like wow i should be grateful i havent been kicked out yet and then its like i need to be as little of a burden as possible #like gee wonder why i still struggle with an eating disorder after over a decade. if i cant fucking off myself might as well take up as lit #le space and use up as little resources as possible #even if i wanted and could afford to go back and get a degree i still wouldnt know what to major or get a degree in #they tell you in high school its okay to be undecided youll figure it out but what if its been 9 years and i still dont know #i know. i guess. also i understand why communication courses are required for a degree but i have failed or dropped out every single class #failed interpersonal communication one semester bc i kept fucking forgetting to take the weekly online quiz and never stopped kicking my ow #ass over it ever since #tried retaking it another cemester and stopped showing up half way though bc i couldnt deal with it anymore #tried taking public speaking another and literally panicked and didnt show up anymore after the first week/class #and that was when i was 18-20 like when its okay if you dont really have anything major to share about your life #imagine being 26 having to go up and say something about yourself and its like. ive been a depressed homebody for the past 5+ years idk wha #else to tell you
