I can’t believe that one simple question of- “hey should I donate to this nonprofit organization that brings happiness to me and others” -has brought such fucking vitriol out of some of y’all…
..,if your cause is driving you to tell people to kill themselves because they thought about donating $5 to a fanfiction website, maybe you should go outside, touch grass, and rethink your morals, yeah?

i wish more people understood the concept of activism burnout and compassion fatigue. you do like genuinely have to pick your battles, and that usually means something local that you can make a real difference with. if you get overwhelmed with every problem nothing is going to change.

With the summer heat rolling in I really wanted to take a moment and highlight a program I am a big fan of, A.N.E.
Tumblr media
"Adopt-A-Native-Elder (A.N.E.) serves to help reduce extreme poverty and hardship facing traditional Elders living on the Navajo Reservation. A.N.E. is a trusted humanitarian organization focused on delivering food, medical supplies, firewood and other forms of Elder support. Respecting the tradition and dignity of Navajo Elders, we create relationships and honor and serve the Elders. The Program is organized in the Native American Spirit of the Giveaway Circle. The Giveaway Circle has a tradition of giving the best that we have. That may be a gift of time, talents or skills, or actual gifts of food and donations. When asked what the boxes of food meant to her, Ruth Benally explained that they were like "miracles from the sky." The miracle is the letters and gifts that arrive from people that they don't know and may never meet. For over 30 years, Adopt-A-Native-Elder has used an integrated approach to go beyond charity to assist indigent Elders on the Navajo Reservation in Utah and Arizona."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A.N.E also puts on an annual rug show & sale, you can read about last years here. Apart from their annual events they also host an online shop where you can buy jewelry, woven baskets, and elder made rugs. All proceeds go towards providing support for our elders be it food, medical assistance, firewood, weaving supplies and so much more.
Not in the market for beautifully made Indigenous crafts? Well they also accept general donations, buy specific items for elders in need, food certificate sponsors, rug show sponsors, and of course adopting an elder.

Donate for Girl Child Education | Girl Education Ngo India
We believe that all children, particularly girls from poor and disadvantaged families, access and complete education from pre-primary to secondary levels, thus realising their right to inclusive and quality education. However the realities reflect inequitable access to Early Childhood Education; poor learning outcomes in early grades which leads to learning deficits; discriminative social norms, gender-stereotyped curriculum and lack of an inclusive, protective environment within the schools. To address these barriers and to ensure all children, particularly vulnerable girls from excluded communities realize their right to an inclusive and quality education, Plan India has taken multipronged approach which includes:

So why do you hate the advertising industry?
Hokay so.
Let me preface this with some personal history. It's not relevant to the sins of the advertising industry perse but it illustrates how I started to grow to hate it.
I wanted to be a veterinarian growing up, but to be a vet you basically have to be good enough to get into medical school. I do not have the math chops or discipline to make it in medical school. I went into art instead, and in a desperate attempt to find some commercial viability that didn't involve moving to California, I went into graphic design.
I've been a graphic designer for about seven or eight years now and I've worn a lot of hats. One of them was working in a print shop. Now, the print shop had a lot of corporate customers who had various ad campaigns. One of them was Gate City Bank, which had a bigass stack of postcards ordered every couple months to mail to their customers.
Now, paper comes from Dakota Paper, and they make their paper the usual way. Somewhere far, far from our treeless plain there is a forest of tall trees. These trees are cut down and put on big fossil fuel burning trucks and hauled to a paper mill that turns them into pulp while spewing the most fowl odors imaginable over the neighboring town and loads the pulp up with bleach to give it a nice white color.
Then the paper is put on yet another big truck and hauled off to the local paper depot, then put on another big truck and delivered to my print shop, where I turned the paper into postcards telling people to go even deeper into debt to buy a boat because it's almost summer. The inks used are a type of nasty heat sensitive plastic that is melted to the surface of the paper with heat. Then the postcards are put on yet ANOTHER truck and sent to the bank, which puts them on ANOTHER truck and finally into the hands of their customers, who open their mail and take one look at the post card and immediately discard it.
Heaps and heaps and literal hundreds of pounds of literal garbage created at the whim of the marketing team several times a year. And thats just one bank in one city.
I came to realize very quickly that graphic design was the delicate art of turning trees into junk mail.
And wouldn't you know it there are a TON of companies that basically only do junk mail. Many of them operate under the guise of a "charity," sending you pictures of suffering children or animals and begging for handouts and when they get those handouts the executives take a nice fat cut, give some small token amount to whatever cause they pay lip service to, and then put the rest of the cash right back into making more mailers. "Direct mail marketing" they call it.
Oh but maybe it's not so bad, you can advertise online after all. Now that there's decent ad blocker out there and better anti-virus ads usually don't destroy your computer anymore just by existing.
Except now when I search for the exact business I want on Google it's buried under three or four different "promoted search items" tricking me into clicking on them only to shoot themselves in the foot because I searched for the specific result I wanted for a reason and couldn't use those other websites even if I felt like it.
And now we have advertising on YouTube and on every streaming service, forcing more and more eyes onto the ad for the brand new Buick Envision that parks itself because you're too stupid to do it on your own.
Oh thats ok maybe I'll get Spotify premium and go ad free and listen to some podcasts- SIKE we have the hosts of your show doing the song and dance now. Are you depressed and paranoid from listening to my true crime podcast about murdered and mutilated teenagers? That's ok, my sponsor Better Help can keep you sane enough to stay alive and spend more money.
It's gotten so terrible that now you have content farms, huge hubs of shell companies that crank out video after video to get more and more precious clicks. Which if the videos were innocuous maybe that wouldn't be so awful except now you have cooking hacks that can actually burn your house down and craft hacks that can electrocute you being flung into your eyes at the speed of mach fuck so some slimy internet clickbait jockey doesn't need to get a real job.
It of course goes without saying that animals are also relentlessly exploited by clickbait companies that will put them in compromising situations on purpose to create a fake fishing hack video or even just straight up killing them for sport by feeding small animals to a pufferfish that rips them apart for the camera.
And all of this, ALL of this doesn't even touch how adveritising is the death of art in general. Queer topics, any kind of interesting art, any kind of sex or substance use topics are scrubbed clean and hidden at the behest of advertisers.
Sex education, a nude statue, topics such as racism or sexism or bigotry in general have tags purged or hidden from search, even life saving information about SDTs or drug use, because if someone saw that and complained then Verizon might sell fewer tablets and we can't fucking have that.
Conservative talking heads often bitch and moan that they're being censored on social media. The stupid part is, they're right! They are being censored! But it's not by a woke mob, it's by ATT and Coca Cola not wanting their adspace sharing screen time with their stupid fucking opinions.
However, they won't ever figure that out, because the talking heads they get their marching orders from like Tucker and Jones ALSO rely on the sweet milk flowing from the sponsorship teat and they aren't about to turn on their meal ticket so they have to come up with even stupider shit to say for the train to continue rolling.
I managed to rant this far without even getting into the ads I see for the beauty industry. The other day a botox ad described wrinkles as "moderate to severe crows feet" as if wrinkles are a symptom of a fucking serious disease! Like having a flaw in your skin is a medical problem that you need thousands of dollars of literal botulism toxin to fix! I was incandescent with anger.
Advertising is a polluting, censoring, anti educational and anti art industry at it's very core. It destroys human connections, suppresses human thought and makes us hate our own bodies. It ads no value, actively detracts from value, and serves no real purpose and I believe it should be almost if not entirely banned.

what all of these posts about the willy wonka disaster event aren't mentioning that makes it even funnier/worse is that the organizer of the event (billy coull) is a serial scam artist who had already done this before with a fake charity gala called gowanbank hub at the double tree hilton advertised at 95 pounds a pop that was supposed to feature gok wan djing and a bunch of drag race contestants doing cabaret that if you try to search for online only gives you results for the wonka scam because literally no formal information on it exists anymore, and on of top of that house of illuminati (the """company""" he used to organize the wonka event with) is literally just him and was registered in november 2023, with a previous company he incorporated under a website he formerly owned called empowerity.com having shuttered right before the wonka scam. also he's a conspiracy theorist who writes AI-generated self published books on amazon about antivax/qanon/child abduction shit and has multiple diplomas from unaccredited universities and the only reason i know any of this is because a friend asked if this was the same man that scammed my family over a july 4th event years ago and though i couldn't find any confirmation that it was holy fuck has this been sitting rent free in my goddamn mind the last few days

I kept meaning to share a resource for MCAS and your post about EDS reminded me!
In the uk there is a charity called MastCellAction.org, I know you are no longer in the UK though it has some incredible information, can help put people in touch with an MCAS specialist, runs regular online educational and supportive events and goes through tests I hadn't heard of prior!
There is also a huge list of pre made forms for reasonable adjustments, and templates for other letters which are helpful for most people who are able to work/study with their disabilities.
You and your followers were a huge help to me when I was struggling to understand the condition, and I hope this can go on to help others.
(Huge win, it even has a section for medical professionals and I finally got my GP to realise just how varied the symptoms are, they are now sharing the website to others to help them support patients, and I keep a print out of the leaflet on me at all times because it's so much quicker for seemingly unexplained medical emergencies)
Oh! That's awesome!
It's been a long time since I've looked for any resources back home and the lack of info and MCAS aware doctors has always made me feel hesitant to ever move back home, so to see this is really encouraging.
Thank you <3
(And I'm so glad you found my blog and my followers helpful. We're really all in this community together holding onto each other for dear life sometimes 😅)

Plan India is continually striving to advance children’s rights and equality for girls thus creating a lasting impact in the lives of vulnerable and excluded children and their communities. As a step in this direction, we have been organising the National Conference on Plan for Every Child (P4EC).
The Plan for Every Child (P4EC) National Conference organised by Plan India in solidarity with national and international efforts focusses on reaching out to every child in difficult circumstances, especially girls and young women in building their agency and leadership to achieve SDGs. P4EC has been a unique conference every year bringing experts from all over the world to the table to bring diverse perspectives and present solutions to the complex issues related to child protection, health, education, participation, violence against girls, equality, early childhood care, sexual and reproductive health and so on.
Plan India has successfully organised three National P4EC conferences in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021 in New Delhi. The P4EC was launched in 2016 in partnership with Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The first edition of the P4EC in 2016 was on the theme of “Children in Difficult Circumstances”; which was followed by the second edition in 2017 on “Leave no Girl Behind” and the third edition in 2018 on “Girls Get Equal”. The 2021 conference was organised under the theme of ‘Build Back Better with Girls’.

Otterly adorable, isn't he? This is Obi-Wan! He's an American River Otter at my local zoo, the WNC Nature Center.
I took this video shortly before Helene hit Asheville. While none of the animals at the Nature Center were harmed by the storm, its main access road was destroyed. As a result, the Nature Center is closed indefinitely and has lost their income except for donations.
They have over sixty animal species in their care, many of whom are part of the AZA Species Survival Plan, including a breeding pair of critically endangered red wolves. They also do educational outreach, support citizen science programs, and have a lending library for children. The Nature Center is not only dear to my heart, but a crucial part of wildlife conservation.
Their recent newsletter linked their holiday gift guide. This page has options to gift a membership, visit their online gift shop, symbolically adopt an animal, and so much more! They even have an Amazon wishlist with supplies and toys for the animals. And through the end of the year, Give!Local is matching donations made through their website. You can find more about that here.
If you or someone you know donates to charity at this time of year, please consider the Nature Center!

honestly the green brothers have spent the majority of their online careers doing more in the name of actual, tangible charity and educational access than pretty much any other internet personality i can think of and yet a large portion of this website chooses to instead focus on winning the Bitter Fuck contest about cringe things they said on tumblr 10 years ago

A fundraising platform is a getaway that makes use of multiple tools to raise funds for a charitable cause. A good fundraising platform helps an organization meet the fundraising goals of both individuals as well as organizations of different sizes. An individual or organization can associate with a fundraising platform and raise funds by reaching a larger audience. Irrespective of the organizer, a charity fundraising journey can be both fulfilling and overwhelming. Hence, big or small, outdoor event or online- all donations matter.
