wanted 2 comment on the bg3 situation as well, that even as an astarion fan, I just got profoundly tired of the fact that there's pretty much Only astarion content out there. Like, it was enjoyable for about three months tops. Plus I encountered a weird subset of fans that would insist that criticizing wyll's storyline for being badly written (or barely there at all) was racist? Which, you'd think would be the opposite, I would have loved more content (or a return to early access wyll which I heard was more complex)

To your second point: there are fans who say 'this is ass wow someone should fix this' and there are fans who say 'this is ass oh well get over it' lol a missing sentence can make it come off as really diminishing

You should try adding dashi powder to instant ramen! It's just a fish stock and it adds just a little bit of kick to the ramen that really amps up the flavor. You don't even need that much, just a tablespoon/15g

i think pixar (cough disney. cough chapek) has been leaning too much on the 'friendhip is magic' vibe for mcqueen's personality in the more recent (LOL RECENT) projects. mcqueen is a snarky asshole and i think he should get into more fights. friendship is NOT magic, lightning and luigi are in a SHOUTING MATCH over TIRES in PIT LANE!! nah jokes aside i do think hes still got plenty of Internal conflict left to use instead of getting sandpapered into Normal Spongebob. you cant really go the slapstick route for comedy with him anymore now that the Stakes are Mortality, but hes still cringe and rude. theres plenty of potential!

thanks for the tag and I can see why it made you think of me.

I do appreciate that OP laid out an entire Merlin BBC plan for how they would have dealt with Morgana and I have no intention to dispute it on their post. It's their vision. They're entitled to it. If that take fixed Merlin BBC for them, then good for them. If that transformative essay made the show feel more arthurian for them, then good for them.

I however am on the side that Morgana's change in S3 was perfectly sensible. It is a controversial take around here I know but BBC Morgana's character and storyline about activists and radicals, was reminiscent of the widespread information campaign against activism in my country in the past two presidencies.

That narrative where smart zealous young adults are "recruited" by activists, brought, isolated and radicalized in the mountains for months and years and then come back all changed, angry and weird? That is still a whole campaign against "terrorism" and "communism" that is continuously spread to cause unecessary fear about activists and subsequent insurgency (and that was in connection to the war on drugs as well).

Katie Mcgrath's character, was isolated, educated and trained for A YEAR, to be a rebel. Katie Mcgrath had explained this writing decision in interviews, btw. So I know that they took real world examples and slapped it on BBC Morgana.

Therefore I was able to understand how she went into a complete flip of character from a "bumbling princess who tried too hard but always failed" into a cold efficient rebellion agent in s3. That anti-activism campaign is still too active in my country even now.

Personally I think the change fit very well with the show's theme because the show choose genocide as backdrop of all things.

Plus if you read Morgan le fay in the french legends (vulgate/malory).. she does turn, well, completely against Arthur, for even lesser nonsensical reasons.

Because of that I consider BBC Morgana's actual, tangible gravitas as a win. I consider all her actions as something to be expected, given what they put her through and what was already established about her from s1-s2

so for propaganda reasons, i think BBC did a very very good job of convincing their young audience that all activists/rebels/extremists are insane/crazy and shouldn't be treated human and should be all exterminated once and for all.

It also harkens back to arthuriana/medieval messaging that any sort of hate/anger is ireedemable and demonic (compared to just being anguished about stuff. Unethical actions coz of anguish was more acceptable.)

It's what they turned Merlin into.

BBC Merlin's constant secrecy of his powers and denial of himself was a betrayal of everything that medieval and legendary Merlin was. Like I said before, legends!Merlin was one who showcased what he could do whenever he could and one who openly defended himself, his decisions and his powers to everyone who doubted him.

And that would have fit well in the politics of the show. Merlin should have been openly and unabashedly spreading propaganda of his mission first and foremost, and not wait for antagonists like Morgana to close in on him and his secret. He should have stood out there tall and proud against Morgana and accepted fate as it came, not fight it, because that is what Seers like Merlin are supposed to do.

If it were me, Merlin should have tried reasoning and showing his powers to her in s2 or s3, not s4. There was still a way for them both out of their respective flavors of extremism if Merlin started stepping into power as Emrys before she assisted Morgause's death and unleashed an unforgiveable terrrorist act at the start of s4.

He should have been more openly committed to his actual goal of glorified and "acceptable" imperialism with him and Arthur at the top of everyone else, and not this back and forth and false sense that he was the "kind and humble one" because he let others step on him while he cheated and betrayed all of them from the shadows.

The conflicts which would have arisen would be juicier. Merlin would have been a lot smarter at everything, Morgana and co. would have backed down a bit or even listened to him a bit, Arthur would have had to choose between imperialistic glory with Merlin by his side or have his own kingdom fall because of his stubborness to accept help, Mordred would risen up on his own as an agent of chaos. etc. There' would have been more opportunity for negotiation, reconciliation, resolution, etc.

idk man. we all have ways to fix this damn show. But I dont have hubris enough to claim i'd be better than the writers/showrunners.

but really tho. i enjoyed and was disgusted by the show too much to find it in my heart to change anything.

GILBERT BAKER'S ORIGINAL PRIDE FLAG: Gorgeous. Stunning. Beautiful. 10/10.

STANDARD RAINBOW PRIDE FLAG: It's missing a little something-something, but it's still pretty dang good. 8/10.

PROGRESS PRIDE FLAG (WITH INTERSEX FLAG): An affront to good taste everywhere. The worst pride flag ever made. 0/10.

PROGRESS PRIDE FLAG (W/O INTERSEX FLAG): Significantly less terrible, and yet still terrible. Please, Progress Pride Flag designers, take a single design class, I'm begging you. Also, the name rubs me the wrong way. It seems to imply that the original rainbow flag is somehow not progressive. Do not like. 1/10.

PINK MONSTROSITY LESBIAN FLAG: Ugly as hell. Way too pink. Also, not a fan of how it's Pink Because Women. 3/10.

LABRYS LESBIAN FLAG: It's purple and it's got an axe on it. What more can I say? 7/10.

EMILY GWEN'S LESBIAN FLAG: Huge improvement over the Pink Monstrosity. The sunrise/sunset vibe is nice and the colors go well together. Still not a fan of the Pink Because Women implications, though. 6/10.

GAY MALE FLAG: Ugly as hell. The turquoise doesn't work at all. And, you guessed it, not a fan of how it's Blue Because Men. Also, totally pointless? Just use the rainbow flag! 3/10.

BEAR FLAG: Sure. Why not. It's got a big ole paw on it and the colors look decently nice together, even if the color choice is a little more "REI" than "pride flag". 6/10.

BISEXUAL FLAG: The gradient is a cool concept and gives it a nice sunset feel. But the shade of purple used here is hideously ugly. It completely disrupts the gradient and flow of the flag. 4/10.

PANSEXUAL FLAG: Not bad. My complaint about the gendered use of pink and blue stands. But the colors are all nice shades. Good colors for a parrot at any rate. 6/10.

TRANSGENDER FLAG: The pink and blue problem is really egregious with this one. And I don't love the use of pastels, it feels twee. But it's not actively ugly. 4/10.

NONBINARY FLAG: Absofuckinglutely not. Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. 2/10.

GENDERQUEER FLAG: It's ugly and the colors don't go well together at all, but I suppose it could be worse (see: the nonbinary flag). 3/10.

INTERSEX FLAG: Kind of a bizarre color combo, but it's a nice departure from all the stripes. 6/10.

ASEXUAL FLAG: Handsome, sleek, and simple. Sometimes less is more. 8/10.

OLD AROMANTIC FLAG: So ugly it's awesome. I unironically love this flag. 7/10.

NEW AROMANTIC FLAG: Not particularly good, but not interesting enough to be bad. The beige of pride flags. 5/10.

AROACE FLAG: Genuinely beautiful. A sunrise over the ocean. 10/10.

How competent is Luz with her artificial staff/glyphs in princess AU? Like if she were to for some reason spar with someone like Hunter/Amity/Willow ever, or if she were to ever get into a situation where Hunter either couldn’t protect her outright or it was unobjectionably the best play for him and Luz to fight together instead of hiding her away in the corner while he took care of everything, how would she do?

luz is pretty competent with her staff and Wildly competent with glyphs, despite the fact that she can't use them in public. glyph magic to luz is like having a hyperfixation on a language you can't actually speak with anyone around u but you listen to immersion podcasts anyway and write in it to learn the grammar and it's a completely useless skill until it randomly helps u kill ur dad one day

luz is pretty good at protecting herself with her staff and at using her staff to make up for human-related disabilities. but she's a lot better with defensive artificial magic than offensive. most of what she's been officially taught is related to keeping herself safe and letting other people take care of threats. if she sparred with amity or hunter or willow going their hardest without being able to use glyphs, she'd lose For Sureee and she knows it.

she could level a place with what she knows about glyph magic tho. it's just that she'd have to believe everybody's fucked (or possibly see hunter get horrifically injured) to let loose. bc she only has the element of surprise Once.
