I originally planned to have Ryoga falling out of the Tardis and kissing the ground but that was another one I couldn't get the composition and angles to agree on. Also... I attempted to use google translate for the challenge letter and had a friend who knows Japanese check it over for me. writing it that small was TOUGH

Ranma and Akane stared down at the challenge note from Ryoga. It was dated for a month ago and the guy still hadn’t shown up.

Now, Ryoga was always getting lost, which meant he was always late to shit, but this was ridiculous! He’d never been this late before!

“What if something happened to him?” Ranma asked. He couldn’t believe he was worried about the guy, but he was. Ryoga may be his rival, but he was also a friend.

“Don’t be stupid, Ranma,” Akane snapped. “He’s really strong, and a really good martial artist. He can take care of himself.”

She couldn’t hide the thread of worry in her voice, strong enough that even Ranma could pick up on it. Or maybe he was projecting. Akane was right. Ryoga was strong. And a damn good fighter. But he wasn’t always… well, a man. Sometimes he was far more vulnerable. 

As a pig, anything could have happened to Ryoga.

Ryoko Saotome for MotW

Okay, to be clear, this is a theory-crafting. Ryoko is a character I have a long history with and it would be better for me to further develop her as a piece of fiction (and have already done so). I might end up doing a character based on her at some point, but I'd likely rename them and take a slightly different tack. Otherwise it would be difficult to work around the pre-existing story she has in my mind.

Okay, so, now on to the particulars, going to avoid going into too much detail but as follows:

Outwardly very friendly and polite with clear anxiety issues and low self-esteem.

Only really happy when witnessing that her loved ones are happy or else she is sparring. Outside those two, she fakes it.

An expert in a martial art based on channeling external energies. Is confident in her abilities but finds her energy control sluggish.

Unknowingly trained in a single technique based on channeling internal energies when she was a child. This is why her control is sluggish. Internal and external practices typically interfere with each other.

The one technique she was trained regarding internal energies is deeply, deeply flawed. You would even say cursed. It converts the negative emotions into energy, but it also causes that emotion to dominate the person's life. She is a "Rider" specifically a "Fear Rider". She doesn't really know much about this, just traumatic memories of the training.

From about 12 years onward she was out of the "care" of her parents. (her father abandoned her because he botched a theft from a secret martial training society).

She learns exceedingly fast.

She was originally a character in a 3-year PbP freeform Ranma 1/2 next gen game. She's built as Ranma's much younger sister, but similarly abused by her parents.

She was later a main character in a Ranma/Naruto crossover fanfic written primarily as an exercise to develop her character further.

Outward personality would peg Ryoko as The Mundane which is by design a bit. Most people would overlook her as a threat and to be honest, unless you threaten someone, she's more likely to fight you to surrender or defeat and non-lethally as long as she's not been triggered.

However, she's very much a dangerous foe. Monstrous is a possibility, but that feels more like a later step in her story. At start, it doesn't have as much of a hold on her.

The Initiate is a possibility but my idea is that she didn't really get assimilated into the society that took her and her sister in. Her sister would be a more likely candidate for the Initiate. The idea was that the society/ninjas left her to self train because they realized she was skilled enough to do so and also was steeped in the wrong style of martial art (external vs internal) so they couldn't teach her.

The Wronged comes to mind, but she hasn't even processed fully that her parents deserve justice or vengeance.

While the Chosen and the Divine are very melee and tough oriented. Their stories aren't nearly right for this.

Exile isn't bad, she isn't ACTUALLY from another time, but she has been sheltered from normal life. But the story isn't about a nemesis or the impact one had on the world.

So, what I'm going to come down to is Hard Case.

Hard Knocks is Secret Martial Art obviously.

For moves. Let's see

Furnace. This is basic to all Hard Cases.

Weapon Master. Because she's a skilled martial artist.

Stone Cold. Yes, fear dominates her life, but because of the Rider technique, she remains tactically competent.

For rating line. This is hard. She's friendly, but often overlooked and not taken seriously because of her anxiety issues. So, Charm can be low.

Weird can be low even though she is technically skilled due to the conflict between the two active styles of magic in her. The idea would be that after learning about the mix, she would learn to balance them, and the Weird would go up.

Cool, despite her anxiety, would be okay because again, it doesn't usually affect her in a tactical situation.

Tough is always going to be high.

Sharp should also be decent, because she is very smart and observant, even if she's hesitant to speak up about what she sees. With that, I think I'm going for the first rating line.

Weird Move is No Limits because she is primarily about enhanced physical ability. Her baseline is above human do to the magic in her system.

Her ally could be her younger sister, but I think instead it might be better to be one of the mystics/ninjas/whatever that took them in and took care of them until she was 18.

Gear, Ancient Sword comes with Secret Martial Art. First divergence from the baseline. Ryoko was specifically not skilled with swords because she was never properly trained. MotW doesn't really allow for this too much... but it would probably be used as an explanation for poor rolls. She DID have a bokken (wooden training sword) that I could reflavor the Ancient Sword into, but the crowbar with Innocuous works better for that. I think I'll leave this as an actual magical sword she hasn't felt worthy of using yet.

Thinking "Old monster hunting journals" which I'm replacing with novels and manga. Because she enjoys them and is able to draw useful insights from such things.

Eventually I'd use "Borrow a move from another playbook" to grab Preternatural Speed - because Ranma and Naruto roof-hopping shenanigans. Probably early.

Possibly I'd borrow "Breed" as well, which Michael Sands confirms can be borrowed. To get both a Curse and a Natural Attack, about when I wanted her curse to go into high drive. Alternately, I'd just go into Monstrous, but this lets me ease into that. Claws of the Beast might be another way to do that. And Invincible might be a good way to represent how agile a Ranma-esque martial artist is.

💘 Is there a piece of fan content you encountered that still sticks with you? Yeah, honestly. There was an Urusei Yatsura fanfic that I haven't been able to find again, it was a retelling of the final chapters, I believe? It was really interesting. There's also the Azumanga Daioh one :wheeze: it was just funny and cute to me when I was younger, and I still think about it from time to time.

\📝 What’s the oldest idea for a fanfiction or art piece you can remember having? Geeze, probably our Ace Attorney fanfic, Before that things are muddled (though I think we had a Fantasy Island and Urusei Yatsura fanfic plan even earlier than that, but the Ace Attorney one is the clearest memory). In it, a blind law student got an illegal license to practice law early to stop a cult that was infiltrating the legal system. She acted like some kind of superhero while doing law, and had a nemesis in a masked circle , one of whom became a prosecutor that she opposed. It was super goofy, tbh, and it's no surprise that I, Terezi, jumped on the idea of a cavalier blind lawyer with no sense of subtlety.

⏰ How old were you when you discovered fanfiction, and what was your first impression? Geeze, we were like...12-14 body age at the time, I think? (exact ages in memories are always scrambled in the system) We'd stumbled on fanfiction.net and started searching through it after realizing we could get more stories with our favorite characters. We were so excited at the time, and read all sorts of things, from an Azumanga Daioh fanfic crossover with Star Wars, and some of the old, old Urusei Yatsura fanfics, and Ranma 1/2 fics. I thought it was the BEST. I was over the moon.

The Shishi Hokodan arc is great for character interaction between Ranma and Ryoga, and to a slightly lesser extent Akane. Shishi Hokodan, an attack of compressed air shaped and guided by the ki of a heavy heart, has the peculiar effective that it's less effect the better and more confident you feel about yourself - but the more it seems you'll lose, the stronger you get! It is also pretty damn powerful: Ranma tried fighting Ryoga normally after Ryoga had learned the move, but couldn't even come close enough to touch him, and that's with Ranma's speed!

Two warriors with equal tendency to grow heavy-hearted can probably battle on for a long time, but between Ranma and Ryoga there's no contest in that area. It's not so much about objective reasons to be downcast - Ranma has plenty of those when you take a look at his life - it's more about temperament/personality/coping strategies, and Ryoga's a wallower in angst to the core. (One can only hope he'll develop some distance and sense of humour one day - he does need it!) As Cologne says and Akane realises, the attack isn't good for your mental health in the long run - but, as many fic writers have made note of, it's very handy as an emergency back-up!

Incidentally I have always been rather impressed by Ranma's sheer refusal to be dragged down by Ryoga's heavy emotions, and how he didn't try to win by cheering Ryoga up, but instead developed his own unique move powered by cockiness, the Moko Takabisha. I'm particularly fond of the page where he reveals his new move. He looks so damn proud of himself, and still so comical somehow, I just had to laugh - but not without admiration. I love the guy.

Ryoga lands two victories on Ranma in this arc before losing in the final, official fight. The first two wins were labelled as training matches, so Ranma didn't "officially" lose - but he did give it his all. And from this moment on Ryoga doesn't really challenge Ranma seriously again, or at least he doesn't issue another "let's see who's the strongest" kind of challenge with no other immediate reason. It might just be that Takahashi didn't have any more ideas in that area... But looking at it character-wise, it's not hard to imagine that the unofficial but honest wins that Ryoga got in this arc took away some of the bitter edge in his grudge against Ranma. The two are still often at odds in future stories, yet something seems to have shifted. (Meanwhile, Ranma still won the official fight, so he's fine with the outcome, too!)

Chapter 1 - One Bright Day on the High Seas (Zoro - One Piece)

I gotta say - writing the chaos of the Strawhat Crew is both fun and difficult, but I thought I pulled it off quite well. This is also the first of the pictures I drew and Sanji's face fought me the entire time. *cries*

Fun Facts: there's a reference in this chapter that was inspired by a Whitewolf Campaign I was in when I was in college. Not that I expect anyone to have gotten it, but I had fun writing it in anyway. 

In the campaign, a Stargazer werewolf finds Frank, a vampire, in the hold of a ship. Frank is often drunk and he's like "Where am I?" The Stargazer says, "On a boat leaving Japan." Frank says, "Wait, I was in Japan?!!!" and for some reason, that interchange stuck with me, so it snuck in. 

I tell you, that Whitewolf Campaign was one of the ones I had the most fun in, and we wound up with a lot of good quotes and one liners that one of our players took quite a bit of care to keep track of and present to us at the end of that campaign. Which was very useful to me as I was transcribing the entire thing down as a story. In fact, that may very well be the first time I 'finished' a writing project that wasn't a short story. It certainly helped the formation of my writing skills.

Zoro scratched his head and yawned, stretching out under the Mikan trees.

It was a nice day: warm, with the right amount of breeze to not only keep the Merry chugging along the Grand Line, but to take the bite off the heat of the sun.

There were no ships and no islands in sight, and so it was a bit of a surprise when the silence was broken by a shout. Which, in and of itself, wasn’t unusual. But he didn’t recognize the shout that precipitated a thud and several more voices rising in the cacophony that Zoro had long since gotten used to.

This crew was lively, rambunctious, and good spirited. It made for a lot of noise at times. Zoro was fairly practiced at sleeping through it all, but the unknown voice had him instantly on edge.

Leaping to his feet in the space of a heartbeat, Zoro looked at the lower deck with a hand ready to draw.

He saw a confused boy, no more than 15 or 16 years of age, maybe, so not too much younger than the rest of them. Probably older than Chopper, but Chopper's age was hard to gauge. He had a shock of black hair, with brown eyes and was wearing black pants with yellow cord wrapping around his leg below the knee. His shirt was yellow gold with long sleeves and a matching bandana.  A red umbrella was slung through the top of the backpack, and he was currently dodging Luffy as his eyes just about bugged out of his skull.

But with his strength comes a tendency for things to break easy. His good heart and control makes him decent with the cat miraculous’s power; destruction.

Alias: Sundry

Usually underestimated, she’s actually amazing in group battles. She has the strength and potential, but is constantly overshadowed.

And because of this, when she found the mouse miraculous, she has been much more involved in things as Sundry. Sometimes even just going out and jumping from roof to roof on her time.

A Cold Night, A Sweet Gesture

Rove sat on the roof alone, staring off, holding her legs close to her chest for warmth on the cold evening. Her head turned at the sound of something sliding onto the roof behind her.

There stood a familiar boy, a hand on the back of his head and he wore an awkward expression.

“Uh... hey.”

She tilted her head slightly before turning back to the stars. “Hey.”

“Do you.. um.. mind if I?” He starts.

The only response he got was a slight shrug.

She heard his pack slide off his back as he sat down next to her. There was silence.

A breeze blew by, causing her to shiver. She brought her arms up and hugged herself closer. She barely heard the sound of the boy next to her wrestling through something.

Her head perked up as something warm and soft fell across her shoulder. She abruptly turned her head, seeing Ryoga pull his hand back quickly.

“Sorry- I was just..” He mumbled.

Wordlessly she took a side of the blanket and brought it around the lost boy. A small blush formed on her face as she cupped his cheek in her small dainty hand, placing an awkward kiss to his cheek.

She pulled back to see him with wide eyes and a bright red face. A grin appeared on her face as she fought a chuckle, “thanks.”

Ryoga straightened and blinked rapidly, he shook his head and looked down at her. “Oh! Yeah! Uh.. no, no, no problem...” He stuttered.

G’day!

today is crossover fic idea/rant about crossover fics for a while day

so yeah.. I love myself a great crossover, like a great crossover has the ability to beat out the top rated fics for both of the fandoms that its made out of, that's how highly I think of good crossovers.

however, a good crossover is, depending on the fandoms/how you integrate those fandoms, usually 2 - 10 times harder than a good fic for a singular fandom.

mostly because you need to mesh both worlds in a way that the worlds of both fandoms don’t clash.

so like an easier crossover would be between Ranma 1/2 and Bleach because Ranma 1/2 doesn’t have anything explaining the afterlife (that's if I remember correctly, since my last reading of it was a while ago). 

However the easier crossovers aren’t usually the best ones. 

the best ones are usually the harder ones to crossover, as the writer put more work into helping the two worlds fit together without clashing too much and added a good story to it. however the harder they are to fit together, the more likely that failure will occur and as the saying goes “the bigger they are, the harder they fall”.

there are many pitfalls that occur in writing crossover fiction, mostly because it’s hard, and getting two pieces of fiction, the tones of which may be polar opposites, and jamming them together into something that reads well, is increasingly difficult with the more different the fandoms are.

so some pitfalls that I see in the crossovers that I see are:

- for Bleach crossovers, I believe you either A.) have to be dead, get an asauchi and train with it enough for it to become a zanpakuto B.) receive Shinigami powers from an alive Shinigami, a la Bleach ep 1, or C.) be Ichigo (Hollow, Quincy, Shinigami, Fullbringer and Human Hybrid) to get any semblance of Shinigami powers, or zanpakuto. I mean if you put another character into the bleach verse, then yes it would be a lot more plausible to say that character gets Shinigami powers, however those ABC points still apply, as they are rules of bleach’s world.

- Tone. the tone of piece should bend to which character you’re viewing it from. for example, if you’re doing a Bleach/One Piece cross and say you’re viewing it from Ichigo’s perspective, it would be the through the lens of Ichigo and therefore wouldn’t have One Piece’s vibe. it would have Bleach’s because that’s the character we’re viewing it from. so in an undisclosed fanfic I have read, it bends to OP’s tone via Ichigo dropping his sword down a drain, while fighting Grimmjow which is something that you would never see in normal bleach, or pretty much any fanfiction of bleach. quick disclaimer, I’m not saying this is bad, its just unusual enough for me to consider it a pitfall, as tone is a big part of writing and shouldn’t bend to one world’s or another’s just because a character has moved to that specific world. Again, not bad and the undisclosed fanfic was pretty good, just weird enough for me to call it a pitfall.

- powers should work the same as they do in their original world. Unless its given an explanation prior, so for example Aizawa shouldn’t be able to depower Goku unless the exact reason he can do so is stated. for another example in black clover, Asta has a anti-magic sword, if you cross him over to any universe that doesn’t use magic, for example MHA, he should be unable to nullify their quirks, or at least the fire and ice that Todoroki makes because that’s the real elements of fire and ice and not magic because it was stated by the author (I think? at least I’m fairly sure) that Quirks aren’t magic.

ok so this sorta just turned into a rant about crossovers, and I was gonna put some ideas for crossovers down but I’m quite tired so imma just post this and lye down for a while.

AU Ideas #8 Outlaw Ranma Star 1/2 (Ranma 1/2 Outlaw Stars Crossover)

So here's the basic layout for this AU:

After the battle with Saffron at Ho'o Peak and the Wedding Disaster, Ranma and Akane have decide to go on a date together to a nice place somewhere far from the prying eyes of the other fiancées, since they figure that, despite finding the hints of each other's feelings, they knew their current relationship with each other was currently going nowhere due to the problems caused by the flaws of their personalities and the problems that are caused by said fiancées. Everything was going so-far so good... until Akane has said something stupid that hurt Ranma's feelings. Feeling rejected by the thought that Akane will be never be able to admit her true feeling due to the current predicament that they were in and feeling like he was just chasing a dream that would never come true, Ranma ran out of the restaurant that they were in and fled into the raining storm outside of the place they were dating in as she jumped rooftops to rooftops, deciding that its time for her to leave Furinkan. When Nabiki and Ukyo (who were secretly following them on their date) pointed it out to her of what he was trying to do and what she have just said, Akane immediately left the restaurant to chase after Ranma in order to apologized to her and clean up the mess of what she said, but she has difficultly of catching to her due to her jumping from rooftops to rooftops. However, all before it ended when Ranma got into an accident when she was hit by a incoming truck driving down the road due to the poor visibility of the rain, putting him/her into a coma... (I got the idea from reading the Gundam Otaku Girl manga)

Skipping an uncertain long amount of time (I don't know how long really, like in between a few centuries to a few millennia) later, the crew of the Outlaw Star (after an uncertain amount of time after the events of their search for the Galactic Keyline and their adventures in it, like between a month to a few years, but my best guess is just between a few months and a year after it) were currently looking for a few items that are called the "Hidden Treasures of Hot Ice Hilda", after hearing rumors of Hot Ice Hilda hidden those items long before her death. Currently, they have two of the three items in their hands, a memory card that were to hold about a petabyte of information on it each and a digital videotape, after they've manage to find it at the Blue Heaven, before they were able to track down the third and last piece of the hidden treasure to Terra (formly Earth), in the same system where Hilda have hidden the Outlaw Star before after she stole it. Once it was decide Gene, Jim, Melfina would go down to Terra while Suzuka and Aisha would still behind to guard the Outlaw Star, the three went down to Terra, to go down below to Furinkan, now a bottom-floor community full of slums that are filled with a mixed of violent gangs, many types of black market dealers, tech and magical hustlers, various groups of criminals, murderers, illegal braindance slingers, and multiple kinds of immigrants (whether they are either humans or aliens) who are forced to live here, are now living in the community, in-between the sex and pop culture that are mixed with violent crimes and extreme poverty. When they have located and gotten to a small warehouse where the final piece of the treasure was at, which is exactly where the Tendo Dojo have once stood, before they enter the small warehouse. This is where they have discovered a replicating-designed 3D printing machine and a TV equipped with a VCR in inside of the warehouse. When they turned on the TV and put the videotape in, it showed the recording of Hilda before her death before she spoke, speaking to whoever who found it did a good job of who are able to find the place and items needed for the machines, before she then begin to explain: She reveal that she was born in Furinkan on Terra years ago and she was the sole-known descendant of a person named Kasumi Tendo, revealing that she and her ancestors were guarding the memory cards while they were gathering the necessary parts for the machine for generations with Hilda being the current one (before her death that is), revealing that she have lived for a long time despite looking like she's 21. The recorded version of Hilda then reveal the purpose for the machine was to recreate someone who was put into a coma and death in order to revival him or her and the copy of their DNA was stored inside the memory card itself, along with the copy of creating a video cassette tape that was stored in it as well, in order to recreated this person in question.

Wanting to honor Hilda's memories, Gene decide to activated the machine and put the memory card into it. Once he did that, the machine begin the process and it work on for a while until it was done and the hatch pop open, which the person in question was reveal to be none other than Ranma himself, albert naked due to DNA reason. All before he step out and the machine closed again before recreating the video cassette tape.

When Ranma woke up after being recreated, he was confused who the people are in front of him or of where he is exactly and wonder what have happen, as he could remember what before. When the three explain to him of who they are and where he is, the memories of what happen finally came rushing back into his head and he realized that he was in the future. After putting the tape into the VHS and watched the recording of an aged Akane who explain of what happen to him before she told that she love him no matter what or how long it is, his mind became devastated by sadness and whacked with sorrow when he realized that he all but now knew his family and friends are long gone for good now, including his fiancée Akane. Seeing that he has no where else to go now, the three decide to invited Ranma to join their crew, which he agreed to since he has nothing for him now.

Now watch the crew of the Outlaw Star, Ranma included, journeying through the stars of the known galaxy and going on various kind of adventures that are filled with such an amount of tragicomedy that only Red Vs Blue could only match it due to the chaos that follow Ranma around wherever he goes, as all of the Outlaw Star crew are riding the rollercoaster of both comedies and tragedies moments that is filed with that is called Life...

I got the idea from triviatrap1982's "Outlaw One Half" and decide to do my own take on my Ranma 1/2 X Outlaw Star Crossover, but I want it to be accurate as possible.

Ameme’s Dream Theater

Sometimes I have weird but entertaining dreams.

Dream #1: Note: This is written from memory a while after it happened. So there I am doing my thing at the house I lived in when I was in high school. You know, sort of an every day thing. Well, at some point my mom looks out the window and is like “Ameme, who’s that outside?” And I look out and there’s some long-haired dude on a motorbike sitting in front of our driveway. Well, turns out I know him cuz he was actually Estinien, so I go outside to see what he wants and he’s like “The hell are you doing Ameme, we need to go fight Nidhogg’s gang!” So I have to tell my mom I need to go fight crime, grab my helmet, and hop on the motorbike.

I can’t remember if we actually got into a fight but I definitely remember Estinien in a black leather jacket looking ready to beat up some Dravanians. I almost died when I saw that one piece of fan art of Estinien in a biker jacket that said ‘NIDHOGG SLAYER’ on the back, though.

Dream #2: Note: I wrote about this the day after I had it, so it is preserved in all its somewhat surreal, highly unfinished glory. I dreamed I was at some sort of competition and I was talking to my friend but then I looked around for my comrade in arms Estinien and there he was on a roof so I yelled at him and he like backflipped off, and I stood really still cuz he could hit you on the way down if you moved suddenly and then he landed next to me and we did that handslap fistbump thing true bros do

I woke up before we actually got to compete but I’m pretty sure we won whatever it was.

What I conclude from these two dreams is that my subconscious is 100% convinced Estinien and I are BFFs. Platonic, of course. We have to go fight crime. BUT I have a third dream for you that has nothing to do with Brostinien...

Dream #3: for some reason it was a Ranma 1/2 FFXIV crossover with Magnai falling for female Ranma and then getting super mad when someone finally poured hot water on Ranma, revealing his male form.

I think at the end they like hooked up somehow after coming to terms with their bisexuality (since both would’ve had to...figure that one out...) but I can’t remember when or how it ended.
