Usopp vs Perona greatest fight in one piece send tweet

Fr tho. I said already how much I love the idea of the negative hollows and the fact that Usopp is the one who has to defeat Perona, cuz they won’t work on somebody who’s already depressed and worried as much as he is, it’s funny, but also goes back to what he learned in Ennies Lobby, he’s not always going to be able to do everything, but others also may have this problem, and they’re a crew so everyone can do their part and win, and Usopp, while still scared, takes the fight into his own hands. It also helps that Perona is a really funny character

Chopper, like I said before, stands up to Hogback, no longer seeing him as a doctor but as a monster. The man is convinced he did what humanity wanted, managed to bring dead people back to life, but Chopper, and the audience know that this isn’t life. The zombies are still lifeless corpses without the personality that either the body or the shadow once had. Hogback’s confidence in the zombies is what gets him ultimately defeated, and this encounter leaves Chopper changed

I didn’t really talk about Absalom cause I generally can’t stand the guy, and his fight with Sanji has Sanji at his most annoying in pre time skip, but I do love the friendship that forms between Lola and Nami, that later carries on to Nami and actual Lola. They’re so sweet, and I love how it’s Nami who brings the final blow towards Absalom
Tumblr media
It’s not often when we get a full crew fight against a single enemy, so the fight between the straw hats and Moria-Oars has to get really creative and that’s GREAT
Tumblr media
With thriller bark we also get our second appearance of Kuma, who right now seems seriously threatening. Like I said with Moria, Warlords have been shown to us as people we have to treat seriously, and with how quickly he makes Perona disappear, for someone reading this for the first time he might very much seem scary he sure as hell was for me when I first watched the anime
Tumblr media
Once Luffy makes it to the fight with Oars and Moria, things start going much more smoothly, and once the guy finally gets the punch, I’m hyped. I love Moria as a character and I think he’s severely overhated, but everytime Luffy deals that first punch to someone who OH SO deserves it, it feels great
Tumblr media
And of course, the nothing happened moment. Zoro being ready to give up his life for Luffy and the crew’s sakes is already a testament to how he’s grown, but the fact he somehow managed to survive all of Luffy’s pain leads to such a good scene
However.. this scene and entire fight have been showing that the Straw Hats are biting more than they can chew. This is the last moment before Sabaody where it becomes clear we have to be weary
Tumblr media
Also, Brook does finally join the crew! His backstory is crushing (honestly which one isn’t) and I can’t wait for the day when he can finally see Laboon again and show him the song the Rumbar pirates didn’t get to share

One Piece Musings: Re-reading Thriller Bark
I got through this a lot faster than Water 7. If I did a tier list of this arc I'd place it somewhere in the middle. It's not a favorite but it's not that low either.
First off, I love the aesthetic of Thriller Bark. The Burton-esque thrill, the comedy beats, the fights and the introduction of Brook! It's all great. I love the eeriness in the introduction of Thriller Bark and the gothic architecture of it all. The zombie designs are kooky and very modern artistic Frankenstein.
When it comes to the fights my favorites are absolutely Usopp VS Perona and Straw Hats VS Oars. The other fights were good too but Usopp's fight is just peak comedy and character growth. I loved that it wasn't about strength but about mind games and bluffing. Also the body horror aspect when Perona was a specter was so creepy. We can't forget Perona's Enel face as well as the re-appearance of Sogeking. Anyway I like that this is the fight where we get Usopp's growth, especially considering the crew gets separated after Sabaody (which had no solo fights, just brawls and escaping). I think it was great as a reader to see Usopp dropping the Sogeking persona before the time skip, it shows his growth from Water 7 and is a great point in his journey to becoming a brave warrior of the sea.
Also I love a good spot of teamwork amongst the crew, it was the first time we got to see it too. Especially since it was all the crew together and not pair ups like in previous arcs. The first part of the fight without Luffy really gave everyone a chance to show their stuff. I liked seeing how everyone trusted each other and how each of them compliment and support each other, especially when they were saving each other and trying to get Oars' attention. Also that cutie Chopper scaling the giant beast to do a medical diagnosis was so good. When Luffy arrives and his Nightmare Luffy power-up runs out we can see how the crew helped prepare Oars for Luffy to land the decisive blow and it shows the crew being of one mind.
I think out of all the post-arc endings this one is my favorite. Because while it's happy and goofy just like the previous ones it's got that tinge of sadness and despair, especially since we get the Rumbar pirates' and Laboon backstory here instead of in the middle of the arc which was the usual fare. And who doesn't love Laboon? cutie as a baby but just as loveable when he's grown, the little scene with him and Crocus was really nice. The little reveal in Ace's vivre card gives that little sense of anxiety for a future plot point oof.

Ranma 1/2 - one page per manga volume, 20/38
Art reads left to right
(Sorry, again, about the wonky quality of the scan!)
The Shishi Hokodan arc is great for character interaction between Ranma and Ryoga, and to a slightly lesser extent Akane. Shishi Hokodan, an attack of compressed air shaped and guided by the ki of a heavy heart, has the peculiar effective that it's less effect the better and more confident you feel about yourself - but the more it seems you'll lose, the stronger you get! It is also pretty damn powerful: Ranma tried fighting Ryoga normally after Ryoga had learned the move, but couldn't even come close enough to touch him, and that's with Ranma's speed!
Two warriors with equal tendency to grow heavy-hearted can probably battle on for a long time, but between Ranma and Ryoga there's no contest in that area. It's not so much about objective reasons to be downcast - Ranma has plenty of those when you take a look at his life - it's more about temperament/personality/coping strategies, and Ryoga's a wallower in angst to the core. (One can only hope he'll develop some distance and sense of humour one day - he does need it!) As Cologne says and Akane realises, the attack isn't good for your mental health in the long run - but, as many fic writers have made note of, it's very handy as an emergency back-up!
Incidentally I have always been rather impressed by Ranma's sheer refusal to be dragged down by Ryoga's heavy emotions, and how he didn't try to win by cheering Ryoga up, but instead developed his own unique move powered by cockiness, the Moko Takabisha. I'm particularly fond of the page where he reveals his new move. He looks so damn proud of himself, and still so comical somehow, I just had to laugh - but not without admiration. I love the guy.
Ryoga lands two victories on Ranma in this arc before losing in the final, official fight. The first two wins were labelled as training matches, so Ranma didn't "officially" lose - but he did give it his all. And from this moment on Ryoga doesn't really challenge Ranma seriously again, or at least he doesn't issue another "let's see who's the strongest" kind of challenge with no other immediate reason. It might just be that Takahashi didn't have any more ideas in that area... But looking at it character-wise, it's not hard to imagine that the unofficial but honest wins that Ryoga got in this arc took away some of the bitter edge in his grudge against Ranma. The two are still often at odds in future stories, yet something seems to have shifted. (Meanwhile, Ranma still won the official fight, so he's fine with the outcome, too!)

Reading One Piece pt 215: Zoro Achieves New Levels Of Arrogance
Chapter 462
Thoughts:
- I woke up today and it occurred to me I should shot Absalom when I had a chance
- Really, I realized I was very chill about that wedding yesterday. Don’t worry, I will continue to be chill about it. Chill like Sanji
- Fpos/cs: “I want to say thank you for avenging our professor” ehhhhh
- Perona ghosts Usopp like crazy
- Oh damn, now ghosts are all negative, are you ok Usopp
- “Do not think that anybody here can conquer me in terms of negative thoughts!” are you ok Usopp
- In the garden with the bois
- So Sanji goes to rescue Nami, Zoro and Franky go help Brook
- Brook isn’t doing so good :(
- “Dude, don’t steal my name attacks” another one to teach proper fighting etiquette around here
- :(
- Nononononono, don’t think about Laboon, Brook, please
- DON’T TOUCH THE AFRO
- Franky and Zoro found them!
- ZORO VS RYUUMA F*CK YEAH!!!
- Oh, Zoro heard of him! Why is everyone so unsure if Ryuuma actually fought that dragon, like come on, it was 500 years and he’s still famous, just claim dragons are extinct and call it a day
- YOOOOOO
- Sword talk
- “Yohoho you have a good eye. This is one of the 21 Great Swords. It is THE Meitou Shuusui.” I remember, Tashigi talked about it
- “Yosh! I’m going to use that blade!” if I remember correctly, he actually got that sword. But DAMN, that arrogance, it’s like a blast in the face! Zoro, why are you like this
- Meanwhile, wedding
- DON’T TOUCH HER ABSALOM
- Oh, Oars is trying to steer Thriller Bark (for it’s a boat)
- Yeah, deck ‘em, Oars
- SANJI IS HERE, CHILL AS A CUCUMBER
Say goodbye to your afterlife, Absalom :D
