Oh god I’m at the One Piece episode where King’s face is revealed and I shit you not when I say I clawed my couch and gasped out loud.

And oh my god he’s so big.

Okay, so another deep dive into symbolism in relation to that one scene with Law vs Big Mom (Wano arc spoilers)

I have honestly loved this bit of the fight against Big Mom and the absolute symbolism we get just from the color choices alone

Sure, we can argue that it's just a cool monochromatic theme going on with a color pop. But considering that at that moment in the fight, he was literally fighting for his life for a payoff with Kid's combined attack, it's VERY much the callback for Law when he was fighting for his life as a child. The fact that they not only decided to use a monochromatic palate, but also make Law's hair WHITE is such A MAJOR thing when you consider that one of the late stage symptoms with White Lead Disease was the hair turning white. But what really really gets me about this scene, is that you have this part that's in full color when Big Mom asks if he's dead and Lands a major punch on him. Also interesting (and perhaps a small bit of a reach) is that Big Mom's hair is pretty much made of flames at this point in the fight.

And then you get this cut which looks like blood falling on a mostly white background, which ofc is symbolic of where Corazon died and also can be meant to for the blood spilled in the White Town of Flevance. What’s also interesting to note is that the smaller splotches of blood look very similar to the splotches on Law’s hat when he was younger, which I don’t think they would have made this choice if it wasn’t meant to be a parallel. Also upon closer examination, there is a shape of a heart that is made both with the larger pools of blood, and the negative space, if you really take a moment to look.

I think it's also important to note that the shot with the sword is also in monochromatic colors as the K-Room is in black and white rather than the usual blue, and the magma is the same red/pink as his tattoos and hat spots. He was enduring all of Big Mom's punches to stay alive long enough to ensure he could carry out his goal, much as Corazon did.

And when he calls for Kidd, and he says "Don't make me repeat myself, Trafalgar! Don't tell me what to do!"

You get Law's smiling blood stained face that looks like Corazon's face paint extending from the corner of his mouth.

And then of course his crew is threatened with giving up their lives to Big Mom and he tells them that they should be the ones getting away

Then in order to save their lives (and Kid's crew along with everyone else in earshot) He uses the Re-Room

What else I find even more meaningful is that the bubble in which Cora-san enables Calm is always shown in purple too.

Obviously the purple enveloping Law when he uses Re-Room was also due in part to Kid's Damned Punk, but it's too coincidental not to have not noticed

The Surgeon's Heart [One Piece - LuLaw]

Law didn’t know when he fell in love with Lucy, nor did he realise it at first, as though it took his head a few moments to catch up to his heart, which had already raced forward, ready to follow this wild woman until the ends of the earth. Why? Why did he feel so? What was it about Monkey D. Lucy which invoked such feelings of courage, joy and love, love to die for, to cross oceans for, to follow until the end? He recalled the first meeting, those years ago, when he saw how she stood up for the fish-man and mermaid she had come to know; he knew little then of her temperment, nor her passion, her drive, her strength as she had put as much as she could into the punch she landed on the Dragon who thought he was above common decency, above those who had always been seen as weak, lowly, unsightly by those who lived on land. Law felt their distain for the average person, felt his own anger rise within him from somewhere deep inside, from the same place where his own pain lay. He had hidden his admiration for the pirate then, unsure what to make his rival, somewhat bewildered by the fact she knew nothing of him nor her other contemporaries on the island then. He had told her not to get in his way then, as he fought back their enemies which had surrounded them, only to be met again with this woman’s brute strength upon the Marines which sought to take the bounties on their heads. She fought harder than any man, even without her Devil Fruit, and he came to admire how she never let anything get in her way when it came to her goals, her ambitions, her dreams.

“I’ll be King of the Pirates.”

She proclaimed, as though it were as simple and true a fact as the colour of the sky, as breathing, as living; she were a woman with the goal of adventure, to dream as big as any other, and he loved her for it. Yes, he loved her, and when he saw her failure at saving her brother, her dear friend, as she remained totally distraught, as she begun to break suddenly, her heart shattered in two, a piece buried with her lost loved one, he felt her pain as though it were his own. He saved her then, and nursed her back to health; he wasnt sure why, though he felt the cogs in his mind begin to turn as plans formed, as his own ambitions begun to take shape, rooted in old feuds and a sense of justice for a lost mentor, long since lost to the void of death, time and misery. He continued his path, and fought for his place in the world, he thought of her from time to time and wondered of her fate, as he heard nothing of her for years to come, until a chance meeting gave him the opportunity to use her own skills and talents in his plans moving ahead. He felt feelings stir, though not sure what they could be, unsure if, beneath his admiration, laid something else, when it first begun for him in the endless game, the give and take, the moving chess pieces hoping to win above all else. And when she agreed, she soon begun to call him friend. Friend? What was a friend? She smiled at him often, and he saw again how she loved her friends so. Could she love him as much? Why did it matter? He thought about it more often than he’d care to admit, and as they travelled to reach what remained of his crew, he came to know her more, seeing how her strength seemed to be her greatest obstacle, as she fought to keep the threads of her friends and family together, to not lose someone else again. Despite himself, he wished to protect her. Why was that? What did that mean? He ignored such thoughts, deeming them pointless, not worth dwelling over, for how could she ever feel the same way? What was there to love about a lowly pirate like him?

And when she fought for him to take down he who had caused so much misery for her friend, fighting side by side, using her strength to surpass this evil ruler, to show to all the men of the world that she would not bow down to them, nor would she be restricted by what she cannot control, he found himself sitting by her side, as the countdown came to an end and his love drained of her abilities by how hard she fought in her battles. He looked down at her face, just before she regained consciousness and raced ahead, and smiled. He wanted to kiss her then, and found he had to quickly regain composure as she raced back to her opponent’s inevitable defeat, to which she turned to him briefly and smiled. A smile different from the wide-eyed grins she gave her friends – it was soft, it was gentle, a quiet whisper in the dark, as though she loved him too. He blushed and turned his gaze away, and as they continued their journey, he continued to hide his feelings, for it was the only way he knew how to survive. But on their way to meet his crew, as they slept in their cabin at night, they could be found in each other’s arms. It was peaceful, and for the first time, Trafalgar Law felt he could sleep without nightmares, knowing there was someone in this world who loved him.

“What you thinking about, Torao?” He hated that nickname once, but he couldn’t recall why. He wanted to hear it for the rest of his life which, he knew, may not be very long, given their final destination. He pulled her close, they fit together like two puzzle pieces.

“Nothing, nothing at all.”

Ahhh. ☺️ I’ve been looking at Usopp vids on YouTube to get me out of Usopp fan angst. And this video really didn’t disappoint.

Truly.

The individual who created the video made all good points as to what Usopp represents and why he is a needed Straw Hat. It made me like the long-nosed sniper even more.

If you’re looking for some simple (not-so-long) YouTube videos that provide character analysis for One Piece characters, PK Buggy is where it’s at. He did a good job with the video.

Usopp may be a scaredy cat but when it comes to fighting for those he loves and wants to wholeheartedly protect, with heavy conviction, then dang it! Usopp is even more invincible than the D in Luffy’s name.

If you’re an Usopp fan just know you aren’t alone.

Why did Wano give Usopp haters so much ammo? Before Nami’s firm resolve in defending Luffy’s honor scene, Usopp did it first! Ugh! 🤬 But apparently selling fake toad cream and not wanting to see a friend get their head literally bashed into the wall is an effin’ dealbreaker!!!!! Wano is my least favorite arc because of all the Usopp hate. Like, how can I be so hyped up for the next arc when the Usopp slander continues?

BUT I must wait for Elbaf. I can. I will.

And if Oda pulls the rug right from under Usopp fans, or moves the finish line again when it comes to Usopp’s time to shine once more I’m going to make a documentary about being an Usopp fan, and how Elbaf hurt so so so so so so so so so so so so so much!!!!! Heck, Usopp-fans might have to come together and make our own fan-funded Usopp Elbaf anime movie or somethin’.

Anywho, I’m making a full summary and list of all of the Usopp-centric Elbaf theories I’ve found on the web (YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, and etc)! They’re always so interesting to read and watch and (most likely) better than what we’ll get in canon. So, the post will be up soon.
