Me, watching some YJS fans justify what Shauna did to Mari by using clips of Mari and Jackie giggling in s1 (normal teenage girl things), or Mari speaking the truth and trying to take Jackie's jacket (even though it was the middle of winter and the group were already sharing clothes), with said fans saying that they've would've done worse to Mari in response, acting like that makes them any better:

#yellowjackets spoilers #yellowjackets #like this fandom continues to disappoint me #“she's traumatized” not an excuse especially since she specifically was targeting mari for the thrill and dehumanized her body after #something in which she hadn't done to the other kills mind you and then wore mari's hair as a trope #*trophy #that is beyond being traumatized and just shauna being horrific. it's okay to admit that #what isn't okay however is to dismiss valid criticism (largely from poc fans) about how dehumanizing it was that she did to mari #by saying “women can't commit wrongs” or “let women be wrong” when you know damn well that isn't the case #(or are you mad that you can't live out your violent fantasy thru shauna without being called out? hmm)#and all the reasons those fans use to justify it are just mari being 1.) a teenage girl 2.) being truthfully honest and 3.) worse sins have #been committed by the other characters like SHAUNA #when you bring up how shauna slept jeff and got pregnant by her best friend's boyfriend it's just “oh teenage girl things”#but when mari is also doing “teenage girl things” one which includes being shady and a bit mean suddenly that excuse no longer applies #largely bc fandom often times doesn't sympathize much with poc characters as they do their yte counterparts #especially if they're young #shauna shipman #mari ibarra #anti shauna shipman #if i ever said that shauna was one of my faves i take it back SO HARD #shauna's ass crying back in the adult tl like she's innocent....i need her to die #but watch the show give her a graceful send out bc it's the shauna show (even tho it's an ensemble cast)#it's kind of annoying to see these fans use lottie as a comparison saying that people care about mental illness as long as the person #doesn't react violently like shauna and while to a degree i can understand bc that is true #in this case it kind of falls flat when you take into consideration how in the show and fandom lottie and her mental state haven't been #treated with the same response or care that shauna has (lottie is beaten brutally while experiencing an episode by shauna)#and it's done dirty throughout the show until her death with only really simone speaking up angrily against how she's portrayed #(same people who are justifying shauna lashing out in anger regarding her trauma were the same ones who were hating on travis in s1 & s2)

I still think about this scene sometimes

#that moment you’ve lived through the life of a lesbian and her gf using your powers #and at some point (while in aforementioned lesbian’s body) almost do a ‘lady and the tramp’ kiss #then after completing the job and being back in your own body #you end up in a frighteningly familiar situation with your best friend and you both instantly connect it to the noodle lesbians #so you just gotta gaze into eachother’s eyes awkwardly #link click #shiguang daili ren #lu guang #cheng xiaoshi #shiguang #link click lu guang #link click cheng xiaoshi #s1 e2 is easily one of my favourite episodes it’s so good #I loved the relationship between Yu Xia and Lin Zhen so much I’m overjoyed that they got their happy ending together

It's honestly kind of funny to me that catapulting into Kirk/Spock shipping has launched my usual "meh, not into jealousy as a metric of romantic love" shipping tendency out the window and instead I'm genuinely charmed by the extent to which they reflect the same unhealthy seething jealousy.

This is most obvious with Spock, but you'll get McCoy joking about Spock falling in love with a computer (not an android, a stationary computer) and McCoy being A Normal Guy Joking About His Friend Having a Hobby is immediately contrasted with Kirk's barely repressed jealousy (you can all but see him thinking "time to talk another computer to death" while McCoy just laughs at his own joke about it). Kirk gets more and more generally insecure until Spock publicly declares that, while he does like an efficient computer, Kirk is irreplaceable and he doesn't want to serve anyone or anything else, and Kirk looks like he's about to kiss him on the bridge.

(Kirk still talks the computer to death, btw, for plot reasons. But big "Edith Keeler must die" energy.)

I also enjoy Kirk's horror/outrage at Leila Kalomi and her obvious gloating over "taking" Spock from him in the docility sex pollen episode and Kirk's willingness to do or say anything to get Spock back vs Spock bleeding intensity throughout "Requiem for Methuselah" as Kirk falls in love with Rayna, then Spock numbly listening to McCoy's speech about how he can never understand the glories or agonies of romantic love triangles or passionate love before waiting for him to leave and then wiping Rayna from Kirk's mind. Just two bros who are totally normal about each other!

#genuinely hilarious to me how mccoy is used to be 'here's how a normal person would respond to his friend having a hobby or love interest'#[cut to kirk's or spock's 'WAIT WHAT does he love her/this more than me??? i can endure never speaking my love #but i canNOT endure my absolute centrality in his life being slightly disrupted by anything ever']#also they'll lightly rib each other but when they think something other than the 24/7 mutual admiration society is happening for real #it's like. kicked puppy time. spock will just be 'i'm sorry :( i'm trying my best :(((' or kirk's like 'you don't think i'm logical? :((('#they're so used to 'you are perfect 2 me your flawlessness is a force of nature like gravity' that... well.#i also think of how annoyed leonard nimoy was at the conclusion of the episode where whatshisface shapeshifted into kirk #and spock has to determine which kirk is the real one and there's an asinine fight scene mandated by higher-ups as he figures it out #and nimoy was like... obviously spock would recognize the actual kirk this is bullshit >:( iirc he was mad enough to complain to paramount #and in the actual episode kirk is like 'why didn't you know it was me RIGHT AWAY tho :( why did it take you so long :(((('#and when spock goes 'well i figured the impersonator would win the combat and then-' and kirk's face is just 'you thought i'd lose :((('#and spock rushes to assure him it's because of his condition at the time not GENERALLY of COURSE #meanwhile just about every other scene between them is kirk being like 'of COURSE you are SO logical and reliable sweetie <3'#anyway. kirk longingly watch spock mind meld with anything/one other than him and spock simmering in the background: iconic behavior #anghraine babbles #deep blogging #otp: the premise #james t kirk #spock #c: who do i have to be #c: i object to intellect without discipline #star peace #star trek: the original series #tos: s2 #tos: s3 #tos: s1 #tos: this side of paradise #tos: the ultimate computer #tos: the city on the edge of forever #tos: requiem for methuselah

Hey Sci, did you ever determine where/when Spongebob went bad? I have my own cutoff date but wondered what yours ended up being. Unless you're still watching to this very day??

i'm still watching!! but i feel like i've betrayed everything i've set out to do because i'm making my way through season two but there are episodes i've skipped because i know i really don't like them. so i've SOILED the purpose of my mission!

i was meant to watch all the episodes until i couldn't stand it anymore, but the fact is there are a bunch of stinkers in season two already!

there's always going to be duds, but – honestly, season one is a perfect season to me. it just has a different energy. maybe it's that 90's energy. maybe it's the lack of polish and digital colours of season two – but ultimately, I think it's that it's a little more grounded in the first season – it didn't reach it's ultimate shitpost era yet. and i think that's why i like it. it's in the goldilocks zone for me.

shit post era is great sometimes, sure – i mean there are some real masterpieces in season 2, but – they don't all stick the landing.

i haven't even gotten to season three yet! but i think it's safe to say i've already failed my mission. i've already reached a point with it where there are some episodes i can't watch.

#there are some episodes i really like in season 2 but the moments that i really love make me think “oh. this feels like season 1”#so the best moments of s2 for me are ones that remind me of the things i liked from s1 #i'm going to keep going because there are episodes coming my way that i know i dig. spongebob hasn't gotten definitively bad yet.#but it really makes me worry how long my strength is going to hold up #sci talks cartoons #spongebob squarepants #once i hit the point i can't watch anymore i will watch the spongebob movie as a reward for my troubles. the perfect movie.

i'm rewatching tokyo ghoul atm, and i was fully in the trenches for that fandom in like 2015-2018 when i was a teenager, and i just came across this comment i earnestly made on my blog back then:

i missed kaneki when he was haise and now i kinda miss haise now he's kaneki again

girl that is the point. that's what the story is telling us. it's about memory, and identity, and deciding who you are, and that all stages of life are important even if they're contradictory or traumatic, they're all you. you have to change, you don't get to have both, but maybe that's okay. that's the themes I'm staring at them now that my brain has fully developed.

idk if this show has aged well in the way other shows I've rewatched lately have, but approaching it as an adult with more media literacy is kind of fascinating

Eugene was truly the best boyfriend. saw his girlfriend get broken up with, and immediately had a revenge glow up. Imagine being Cassandra seeing your ex girlfriend's boyfriend and he's wearing a golden choker with the just deepest v neck known to man, the world's sluttiest gloves, and a thigh garter.
