Four times when Conner finds a father...
Conner is upset, the school has lost hundreds of student records and they ask him to send a copy of his application again, including a copy of his birth certificate. He is not upset about the paperwork, he knows everyone will have to do it, but Megan and the Martian detective are on Mars on personal business and can't help. He asks Red Tornado for a copy and it's a surprise for Conner, a name that proudly appears on the protagonist, only one.
1. Bruce Wayne, it's interesting in retrospect... Conner's never met the man in his life, but the genemorphs showed him what he looked like, but what's a Gotham City billionaire's name elegantly spelled after his father doing on his certificate?
Conner definitely didn't have the urge to go knock on his door and ask what was going on, because he first asked Batman who awkwardly explained that he was a good friend who was willing to help if the situation warranted it... yeah, it was definitely because of that answer that he crossed the country and knocked on his door. The fact that he ended up running across the rooftops of Gotham a couple of months later was a curious and happy ending.
2. Clarence Charles Batson, more than confused by a totally strange name Conner feels the need to use the central computer of Mount Justice and the results disturb him, missing, they don't help him too much... Married archaeologist, two children, lost five years ago... the photo speaks for itself, he's practically Captain Marvel but with a terrible disguise. When he asks about the certificate the captain only manages to smile, begins to tell him an interesting story about a magician and a moral about not following unknown voices to abandoned subway stations. After an afternoon of flying he ends up adding that he shouldn't worry since they have the same chin. Conner doesn't feel the urge to wear tights yet, but he stamps a lightning bolt on his favorite jacket and is learning some magic from his magical father.
3. Lex Luthor, yes, is in front of Conner signing his birth certificate... Conner takes it as soon as he finishes and leaves his office with the same energy and good humor that characterizes him. He is certainly not upset because Clark has just spit in his face that he is not his father, it was not because he tore up the certificate where his name was written, a paper he had not seen before, or because he was not allowed to explain himself... He is upset because I sent him to find the person who sent him to clone. And from there he left, he intended to get the signature of PAUL WESTFIELD, CEO of Cadmus, but he discovered that he had another biological father who he did not hesitate to visit in the heat of the moment... the latter, blessed by the clone's situation and his motivation, did not take long to make it official. Conner never uses the certificate, but keeps it in his room waiting for the day when Clark resumes this one-sided discussion.
4.Guy Gardner, Conner has to ask Robin to hack into him to find out who he is because his information is encoded in the systems. He turns out to be the last Green Lantern to join the Justice League and someone very difficult to locate for a simple chat. A mini alien invasion and an attack in Brussels are necessary for Conner to be able to talk to him. Surprisingly, the Lantern recognizes him and greets him, asking him how he's been doing at school. A totally inappropriate image of the man for those who knew him or read reports about him. He easily manages to clarify that he was present the day they discussed who would sign the paper, he spit out that he knew gang members or imbeciles with more balls to sign for a baby that they weren't even sure if it was theirs. He becomes Conner's favorite superhero when he asks him - Do you want to go hit something boy? - Conner surprisingly does. Guy leaves again for space shortly after, but not before giving him an interspace communicator to keep in touch and a six pack of beer. Conner can't drink, legally and biologically his body can't get drunk, his gift is unbecoming, but the gesture of spoiling a super-powered teenager makes him feel pretty good. Conner ends up keeping them in his room with some appreciation. He gets a lantern tattoo a year later.

Eagerly awaiting Spare 2: The Chamber Pot of Secrets
Now that the media furore has died down a bit and we've all had time to think, what can we say about the Spare?
Well, first of all, I'd say Harry has been set up.
Again.
And he's too dim to see it, because he's being told (by someone in particular and probably a few other hangers-on as well) that "his truth" is important. And he believes it. Harry's "truth" has been filtered by money-grubbing bottom-feeders, and now H prefers to believe that "their truth" is "his truth"; that they love him more than anyone else; and they know what's best for him.
So:
(1) Harry can't distinguish his truth from reality. We've known this for a while, but so many new *facts* coming out... it's really taking the pee-pee. "Harry's Truth" isn't the same as facts. A fact is a piece of information that can be proven to be true; it stands up to rigorous scrutiny, especially by rigorous professional fact-checkers, who quickly noted that bit about the XBox, of which I freely admit I know nothing, but even I managed to check it out on the internet in about ten seconds. Did nobody fact-check Spare? Oooh, apparently not. Why not? And King Henry VI... And the Queen Mum's death... and the rest of it. Which leads us on to:
(2) Harry took (and is possibly still taking) Class A drugs and assorted forms of happy-juice, even to the point of stoking himself up on the wife's gas as she prepared for labour, which is despicable. He's such a feminist he took her meds for her!!! A**hole. I gave birth three times (homebirths, without meds; Princess Madafu wasn't around at the time so I did the painful "manly" work of squeezing babies out of my bum all by myself...) and I just want to deck Harold for interfering with his wife's meds. But drug use messes up your brain, Harry. So do grubby compliant therapists, by the way, who are rubbing their hands in glee at all the $$$ you hand over - they're on to a good deal and it's not in their financial interests to sort you out by Month 6 of Therapy when they can trick you into Year 6 of Therapy... or Year 16... or Year 26...
(3) He's envious of William and Catherine. This shines through. His older brother married the love of his life, a woman who has devoted herself to her man and the RF and between them they've produced three gorgeous well-grounded little ones and a firm base on which to take the RF forward. The Prince and Princess of Wales have learned from the mistakes of the unfortunate previous generation of royals, whereas Harry is now an "Oh dear" in the footnotes of the monarchy. And this leads us on to:
(4) Harry has no respect for Charles and Camilla. The Queen Consort is and always has been Charles's lighthouse and security from the storms of public life. Charles should never have been pushed into marrying the naive teenager Diana, but that's how it was back then - that's how history works! Charles was expected to marry a blushing virgin bride he hardly knew. Harry, aren't you glad you were allowed to marry a several-times-up-the-maypole divorcee? You learn from history, right, so that you don't repeat the same mistakes. Of course that involves being aware of history, which Harold isn't; he's only aware of how time healed his frostbitten todger and saved it for someone who could use it to her advantage. Over-sharing, Harry! Please shut up! Nobody wants to know! And then there's:
(5) Harry has no respect for the British Public. Or the Commonwealth. Or the army. Even enemy soldiers have families; mothers, fathers, wives, children - they are not chess pieces to be removed. Personal remembrance: my Gt-grandma's brother was KIA in 1916; my Gt-grandad served in the same war but never spoke about it; my Grandad served in WW2, never spoke about it - he showed me his medals, once. Once. Once only. The only things I remember him saying about the war were the "safe" bits - that he spent some of it in Canada training Canadian troops and got to see Niagara Falls, and mailed all his chocolate rations back to his wife and infant son. My late brother in law served in the Coldstream Guards, never spoke a word about how many men he'd had to shoot; he took all that to his early and leg-amputated death. What happens in the army stays in the army, Harold; it's not for personal validation.
(6) He hates the British Media. Supposedly because his mother was killed by paps (in France; not British paps) when the world knows she died because she wasn't wearing a seat-belt in a car that crashed at speed driven by a DUI driver. Oh and he also hates the British Media because Meghan is Diana.2 and... wait, what? No she isn't. She wants him to believe she's Diana.2. If it's not drugs doing his head in it's Megadiana. How many paps have tried to run Catherine off the road in a tunnel in Paris? How many paps have tried to take topless pictures of her - ooh, there was one, but it wasn't in Britain, I'm pretty sure it was in France and the magazine was sued for it, so not in Britain then. Not British Media. Not British paps. And let's not forget that Diana was more than capable of manipulating the pap shoots she wanted... remind you of anybody?
(7) He still has mummy issues, decades later. This is just not normal for a grown man. I'm sure Harry loathes being compared to his brother but what the heck, I'm going for it! Two young boys, both suffering from the untimely loss of their mother. Yet William doesn't have mummy issues, or at least if he does he doesn't hang them out to dry for a voracious public airing. It's no good saying that Harry is more sensitive, he's not - he just hasn't grown up, and those around him are keeping him trapped in the net of mummy issues instead of allowing him to mature into the adult he should be; he's not the man he thinks he has become. And I still keep coming back to why, so let's move on to:
(8) His therapy isn't working and he needs a proper psych evaluation. The people he thinks are helping him just aren't. They are milking him for the cash cow that he has become. The RF and whatever PR they use appear to have done everything to protect Young Harry from this, right down to convincing us that he was a high-spirited Jack-the-Lad, fond of a little tipple but devoted to his country and the army veterans he served alongside. Take away the RF and the carefully scrutinising PR machine, and he is ripe for the plucking. And boy, is he being plucked. Every last feather.
Now this next one is a bother:
(9) He can't see his own hypocrisy, has zero empathy for anyone, and cannot see how "his truth" - his own words - can damage others. Others including his own mother, his father and step-mother, his wider family, his army colleagues, the wider British public who are all a bunch of racists, apparently. Harry has a lot of short-comings. No doubt there'll be "Spare 2: The Chamber of Secrets" and he'll blame his short-comings on his frozen todger, but the lack of self-awareness is pathetic. He cannot see his own failings, refuses to take responsibility for his own actions, and blames everyone else. So what can we say? Is he really so stupid? Or is he in some sort of "Cult-Of-Himself" delusion, promulgated by his Feather Pluckers?
(10) The awful wife wears Harry's man-bits and is conspicuous by her absence, as she journals and squirrels away evidence for her divorce lawyers. Yep, I think we're all agreed on that one!
My personal opinions only, as they say in reputable circles.
Love and peace.

LOVE your tags on Harry Wilson true 1890s fandom naming your weans
Oh 100%
I couldn't find my post of him, so here's the real world Sherlock Holmes
His birth and baptism record - 1897, to Martha and Richard Holmes, a miner.
1901, we find his father is more specifically a coal hewer. He has an elder sister Annie, who has poor eyesight, a younger sister Alice, and a younger brother who is 3 months old and rather pleasingly called Mycroft. Either or both of Martha and Richard must have been great fans of the series!
1911, his mother has split from his father, presumably, but not legally - given he is not on this census, tho she still listed herself married - but she has named her youngest son after her current employer (she is housekeeper to labourer Joseph Roebuck, and Joseph Roebuck Holmes is 2 years old), which is. Somewhat obvious, Mar, what were you doing?
Annie is now employed as a taker-in in a glass bottleworks, and is no longer listed as having "imperfect sight" - I wonder she got herself glasses?
Next, 1914, he's called up for war - we see that he's a miner himself, like his dad, and he lasts for five months before he's discharged for "defective vision" - possibly due to working underground as he did, but given his sister, might also have been inherited. What is certainly inherited, one way or another, is his description - at age 19, he is 5 foot 6 3/4, fresh complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. He gives his father as next of kin, who is living at the same address as Martha was in 1911, so I should imagine they made up since then - one way or another. I checked out Richard in 1911, and it looks like he went back to live with his parents in Castleford, see below -
Then, back to Sherlock -
Here he is in 1939. There is no useful address given, and I'm not sure where his wife is living (Elizabeth Bratton, a former servant, married in 1919). He is a lance corporal, now - perhaps the Royal Engineers Fortress Section (whatever that might be) have less stringent requirements for vision than did the Yorkshire Reg in 1914, I've no idea.
There are six listings for Holmes's born to Bratton's between 1919 and 1939 - in order, Charles, Arthur, Irene, Annie, Stella and Joseph.
And, finally, his death in 1962.
If you're interested, Mycroft was born on boxing day 1900, a labourer who married a Janet White in 1929, and possibly had seven children - Martha and Joseph, certainly, and tho I have no real way to confirm Gordon, Joan, Brian, Harold and Beryl, there are spaces for them here - the 1939 register.
They close the record, usually, of those "under school age" or uh too young to not definitely be dead yet? That's the reason why they keep census records closed for 100 years after the fact, too, to be absolutely sure they're not giving out the records of people still alive - the 1921 census records only became available last year, but you still have to pay to read them last I checked.
Anyway, there you go, Sherlock Holmes.
At the time he was born, 13th March 1897, most recently The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes had been published altogether, in 1894 - and that includes The Final Problem, where (fictional) Sherlock Holmes "died", which was in the Strand Magazine December 1893 - he wasn't revived until 1903, in "The Adventure of The Empty House"
I wonder what Martha and Richard thought of that fiasco?
Wonder if either of them wrote to ACD!

-BIOGRAPHY-
[drug use, alcohol & violence cw/tw]
Born in Milan, Italy--his father’s hometown and the city where his parents met in their youth--Aldrich Palermo was the one and only biological child his parents had. The pregnancy and labor created lifelong complications that no longer allowed his mother, Rebecca, to carry or birth anymore children. They knew they wanted more children and, after Aldrich, they adopted all of the children they had thereafter. Aldrich being the eldest was the only one to spend all of his formative years in Milan, studying languages, mathematics, sciences & extracirriculars at the best schools his parent’s money had to offer. As Aldrich approached his early adult years the family moved to Los Angeles, but Aldrich accepted his admission to Stanford University where he studied Business Management & Entrepreneurship. But he was often taking single night and overnight trips to San Francisco with friends when his partying & clubbing escalated exponentially, or close to it.
While Aldrich enjoyed his partying and getting to know people in ‘the city by the Bay’, (which greatly lent to how he currently has so many connections with his event planning), he started to party hard. Heavy drinking, some drug usage became commonplace, making him reckless but the life of the party at pretty much every event he went to. His Palermo name became known around some of the circles he hung out with and sometimes it went to his head. One night in his mid-20s, his partying went too far. Having overdone it with everything he’d consumed that night, and Aldrich left himself virtually defenseless to strangers at the party he attended. Said strangers took advantage by mugging the young heir. He was founder much later, beaten, unconscious and without most of his belongings.
His family had to do damage control to make sure it was dealt with as quietly but forcefully as possible. Aldrich was admitted to the hospital for over 1 week for his injuries and thanks to his father’s connections, he was able to avoid media attention. The experience, along with the heavy reprimand from his parents had been the wake-up call Aldrich needed. While he knew he could not commit to absolute sobriety, he's been turning his life around from that moment on. After a semester-long hiatus, he finished his undergrad, eventually went on to acquire his masters all the while establishing and growing a [really] successful career of his independent event planning business. And although he has made a massive turnaround and appears to have “it all” to nearly everyone on the outside, secretly, he’s constantly fighting the demons of his past and of his own making. Aldrich has not forgiven himself for all he’d cost himself, the stress he put upon his family, and nearly losing his own life. Admittedly he still drinks, and sometimes, he'll smoke medicinal marijuana for his anxiety (a disorder that stated with him after his hospital stint) but he goes through a regular internal battle not to overdo it ever again.
Today, Aldrich is continuing to do what he can to move forward with his life. It’s now included his interest in sharing his life with someone special. He doesn’t quite trust himself to meet people “the old fashioned way” of at a bar, for instance. He’s decided he’s too old for clubbing now, and internet dating is something he simply refuses to engage in. In true, somewhat extreme Aldrich fashion, this led to him deciding to go for Ship-Wrecked.

On the Origins of Hook: The Complicated and Often Contradictory Backstory of a Villain
The story of Peter Pan has been told and retold in writing, on the stage, and on the big screen countless times, yet in the original storyline, we are thrust into a world with a pre-established (and presumably long-standing) relationship between its hero and villain with little information regarding their pasts. So far as the audience is concerned, Peter and Hook have always been a part of the Neverland...yet as evidenced by the many retellings that attempt to answer the question of these characters’ origins, clearly, people want to know more. Barrie, however, leaves a great deal to the imagination and while he tackles a bit of Peter’s past in The Little White Bird, there is significantly less information about Hook in his writings, and much of it is up for debate, as Barrie arguably contradicts himself.
In terms of canon (which for the purposes of this article I am limiting to Barrie’s final published version of the novel), much of what we know about Hook can only be inferred from a few brief passages. In the initial introduction of the pirates, Barrie gives us the following description of Hook:
In the midst of them, the blackest and largest in that dark setting, reclined James Hook, or as he wrote himself, Jas. Hook, of whom it is said he was the only man that the Sea-Cook feared. He lay at his ease in a rough chariot drawn and propelled by his men, and instead of a right hand he had the iron hook with which ever and anon he encouraged them to increase their pace. As dogs this terrible man treated and addressed them, and as dogs they obeyed him. In person he was cadaverous and blackavized, and his hair was dressed in long curls, which at a little distance looked like black candles, and gave a singularly threatening expression to his handsome countenance. His eyes were of the blue of the forget-me-not, and of a profound melancholy, save when he was plunging his hook into you, at which time two red spots appeared in them and lit them up horribly. In manner, something of the grand seigneur still clung to him, so that he even ripped you up with an air, and I have been told that he was a raconteur [storyteller] of repute. He was never more sinister than when he was most polite, which is probably the truest test of breeding; and the elegance of his diction, even when he was swearing, no less than the distinction of his demeanour, showed him one of a different cast from his crew. A man of indomitable courage, it was said that the only thing he shied at was the sight of his own blood, which was thick and of an unusual colour. In dress he somewhat aped the attire associated with the name of Charles II, having heard it said in some earlier period of his career that he bore a strange resemblance to the ill-fated Stuarts; and in his mouth he had a holder of his own contrivance which enabled him to smoke two cigars at once. But undoubtedly the grimmest part of him was his iron claw.
From this, we may be able to draw a few conclusions about who Hook was before he came to the island. (1) He was likely a sailor, if not a pirate, BEFORE he met Peter, given that he had previous interactions with “The Sea Cook”--that is, Long John Silver. (2) He was alive and most likely an adult by the mid 1700s, as in Treasure Island, Billy Bones--a former crewmate of Silver’s--has the date 1745 in his log and the dates 1750 and 1754 on his treasure maps. (3) Hook’s hairstyle and fashion is similar to that of Charles II, whose reign ended with his death in 1685.
We are also informed by John that Hook was supposed to have been Blackbeard’s bosun. Blackbeard was born somewhere around 1680 and may have been a privateer earlier in his career at sea, but he didn’t actually take up piracy until 1716 and had only a very brief reign of terror before he was killed off the coast of North Carolina in 1718. Assuming Hook was meant to be Blackbeard’s bosun after he went pirate, this gives us a pretty narrow window of time during which Hook might have interacted with him. And, if we take the comment about the Sea Cook seriously, then Hook must have been pretty young at the time he worked for Blackbeard, given that there is a twenty-seven year gap between Blackbeard’s death and the earliest date Billy Bones offers in connection with Silver.
Hook also uses words and phrases such as, “Pan, who and what art thou?” which would seem to indicate that he is from a time period centuries before the Darlings come to visit. (“Thee” and “thou” had pretty much completely fallen out of common use in English by the late 1700s/early 1800s.)
So far, so good. The dates might make it a bit of a stretch, but we can pretty comfortably say that prior to Neverland, Hook was a sailor--and probably a pirate--during the 1700s, was likely born in the late 1600s, and was possibly a related to Charles II, who had many illegitimate children. This possibility fits nicely with Barrie’s statement that, “Hook was not his true name. To reveal who he really was would even at this date set the country in a blaze.”
We don’t know much about his parentage, however, except that Hook’s voice cracks when he is speaking to Smee about mothers regarding the neverbird’s refusal to leave her eggs even after the nest falls into the water. Whether this is because he was close to his own mother and is lamenting her loss or he had a rather indifferent (or even cruel) mother and he is lamenting his own lack of a loving childhood is up for debate, though the official sequel, Peter Pan in Scarlet--written in 2006 by Geraldine McCaughrean--favors the second interpretation. (Again, however, for the purposes of this article, I am only considering Barrie’s published novel as canon.)
We also learn that Hook attended Eton, a rather prestigious school for boys between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. Assuming Hook completed his schooling there and was, therefore, at least eighteen by the time he joined up with Blackbeard, it would place his being born somewhere close to 1700. Assuming his interaction with Long John Silver was, at the earliest, probably around 1745, and that this interaction happened prior to his visiting the Neverland, it puts Hook (physically) at approximately age 45 by the time we meet him in the book, give or take a bit.
There are two potential problems with that timeline, however. (1) In Barrie’s original novel, only Peter stays young forever. The boys can technically grow up, and Peter “thins them out” when they do. (Decide for yourself whether that means banishment or something worse.) If this is the case, Hook shouldn’t still be alive or, even if the aging process is slowed down, at the very least, he should be an old man, given that the Darlings visit in the early 1900s...making him at least two hundred years old. (2) Near the end of the book, when Hook is trying to convince the boys to join his pirate crew and John asks innocently whether they would still be loyal subjects of the king, Hook responds with, “You would have to swear, ‘Down with King George!’” John (and likely the audience) assumes here that Hook is talking about King George V, who would have been the present king of England at the time the novel was published. If this is the case, how does Hook know who the king is? Has he been able to leave the island and find out this information? Or is Hook, perhaps, from a more modern era than we suspect? Cleverly, Barrie leaves this question open-ended, as Hook could just as easily have been referring to King George the First, who ruled England from 1714 until 1727.
As for personal hobbies, we know only that he loves flowers and plays the harpsichord--an instrument that was once quite popular but which had fallen out of favor by the 1800s, replaced by the piano.
The rest of the information we get from Barrie about Hook’s origins comes primarily from his “Hook at Eton” speech, delivered in 1927--many years after his original play (1904) and novel (1911). And here’s where things get interesting (read: contradictory). Because he wrote the speech so many years later, as a sort of afterthought, and because of the inconsistences with the novel, I personally reject this information as canon. Nevertheless, it is Barrie’s take on his own character and, therefore, is worth at least considering.
In this work, we are told that Hook not only attended Eton but also--at least briefly--went to Oxford. This in and of itself poses no major problems for the timeline suggested by the novel. What DOES pose a problem, however, is the fact that Barrie claims to have been in contact with Hook’s “Aunt Emily”--apparently his closest surviving relative--and has been in search of possible photographs of Hook during his time there. This would indicate that Hook MUST be from a much later, more modern era than the book suggests, as photography didn’t really come into fashion until the mid-1800s, and even if “Aunt Emily” is quite old (and she is likely a good fifteen to twenty years OLDER than Hook if we assume she is near in age to one of his parents) at the time of Barrie’s supposed meeting with her, she couldn’t have reasonably been expected to have been born before the early 1800s, placing Hook’s own birth nearer to the 1850s. While some of the information in the novel might be explained away to fit with this date (his choice of dress and hairstyle, for instance), he could not possibly have interacted with Blackbeard or Long John Silver. In fact, he could not have been a pirate--at least, not in the traditional sense--at all, as the Golden Age of Piracy (1650s--1730s) had long passed and the Age of Sail ended in the 1860s. Because of this inconsistency, some have argued that Barrie may have intended Hook to be a more modern man who essentially became trapped in a child’s fantasy land. He became a “pirate” only AFTER his interactions with Pan--that is, he took on the role of a villain because that is how Peter and the children imagined him--and that John’s assertions about his interactions with Blackbeard and Silver are merely rumors that the boy has heard.
Setting aside this apparent contradiction in the timeline, we DO learn some other interesting facts about Hook. For instance, Hook’s blood (which was said in the novel to be thick and strangely colored), is specified as having been yellow. This, along with his appearance having been described in the novel as “cadaverous” has lead some to conclude that Hook was likely rather sickly as a child. We also learn that Hook enjoyed the Lake poets and strawberry mess (a dessert), collected keys, performed well in sports while at Eton (though he did not like water sports as he rather surprisingly hated the feeling of water on his skin), and played the flute. We also learn that he was politically conservative and was probably never in a romantic relationship.
There are a few other bits of information about Barrie’s idea of Hook that can be found in the early manuscripts for the play, which feature “deleted scenes.” One such manuscript--the earliest, I believe--can be found here. (Though good luck with reading it without going cross-eyed because Barrie’s handwriting is BAD.) However, I think this post has gone on long enough, yet we are still left with many unanswered questions. But perhaps this is what Barrie intended all along. Perhaps, fittingly, we are ultimately left to fill in the blanks about this villain of the Neverland with our own imagination.
_____
Thanks to @katherinenotgreat for asking me to do a post on Hook’s origins. Thanks also to @concordia-cum-sinistro for your input. Feel free to add your own information regarding the original manuscript drafts, as I know you are more familiar with them than I am.

All I want- Part 2

What Y/N hadn’t expected from this job was the temporary move to the states.
Tommy had mentioned that he and his wife had some unfinished business that was likely to take around a year to complete.
Y/N was to travel along side himself and Grace- Since Grace was due to give birth while they were over seas.
There was only one request that Y/N made- which Ada fully backed. That they stayed in London until after Matthew’s first birthday.
Y/N wanted to spend the day with Ada and James (as well as Karl and Matthew of course), where they could spend the day together before the Y/L/N’s departure to America.
Tommy has agreed (albeit reluctantly), and a day later on a crisp, sunny morning, Y/N and Grace watched as Tommy and James hauled the many trunks into the back of the car.
It wasn’t long before they arrived at the docks, where a large ship was waiting. Tommy wasted no time getting tickets and rooms sorted, leaving Y/N and Grace sat one of the many lounges that the ship offered.
Matthew was sound asleep in his mother’s arms, his golden hair and rosy cheeks made him look just like Henry whenever he slept.
God- Y/N loved her baby boy, he was just the most adorable person on the planet. Her love for him was just immeasurable. She’d protect him with her life if it came down to it.
“I used to wonder how someone could love another person that much,” A soft Irish voice, broke Y/N’s train of thought, looking over to the owner of the voice she saw Grace staring intently, a hand tenderly cupping her growing belly- a caring smile on her face, “But I think I finally understand now.”
Y/N nodded, absentmindedly rocking the slumbering child in her arms, “I used to wonder that too,” and once again looked down at Matthew in complete and utter awe, “but when Matthew was born, I realised that there nothing more precious and special than the connection between a mother and her baby.”
“Is it wrong to be scared?” Grace looked almost guilty, as she fiddled with the ring on her finger.
Y/N reached out for the older woman with her spare hand, which the latter took thankfully.
“If you don’t mind me saying Miss, but the fact that you’re scared just shows how much you love your child.” Y/N breathed in, “it shows how much you care and how far you are willing to go in order to provide and love your baby.”
Grace’s eyes were gleaming with unshed tears, “Thank you,” she said shakily, “For casting reason on my fears and worries.”
“That’s no problem at all miss, I know what it’s like to have those fears.”
“Please,” she smiled, “call me Grace.”
New York City was different, magnificent of course, but still different.
It was hard to believe all that had happened in the span of about 2 years.
Henry Leaving.
Discovering her pregnancy.
Moving from Sheffield to London.
Giving Birth.
Become employed by Tommy.
And now this- living in the states, in the city where dreams came true.
Or so Tommy claimed. Maybe that was just the ambition in him though, the determination to succeed.
What Tommy’s dream was though- Y/N had no idea. Grace had said that he was looking for new business opportunities and had left it there.
Y/N had decided to just leave her questions at the door, she was lucky to have been employed by Tommy in the first place. She wasn’t going to throw away her shot by asking too many questions.
-
Charles Shelby- also affectionately known as Charlie was born 3 months after their arrival in New York.
Grace was overjoyed at the birth of her son and although Tommy didn’t show it, Y/N could tell that he was too.
In the weeks after Charlie’s birth, the young mother found herself interacting more with Grace as they talked an cared for the newborn.
In this time Matthew also became accustomed to the newest addition. It wouldn’t be an easy transition but his acceptance was a start.
Before too long the pair of boys would be giggling and playing together in harmony. Like nothing has ever changed.
Y/N finally began to work properly for the Tommy anc Grace, instead of biding her time until their child arrived.
Now she was a proper nanny, who cared for both boys and provided both of them with love and sustenance (when his parents weren’t able to in Charlie’s case)
They also had their fun together, trips out to Central Park, where Matthew would attempt to toddle across the grass (which usually was him trying to keep his balance while stood up, working his legs as he did so- before more often than not falling flat on his bottom moments later), they’d feed the ducks at the pond and would visit the zoo.
Y/N finally felt useful. Like she had a real purpose.
-
Wails pierced the nursery as they echoed off the walls. Y/N woke up groggily, wiping the sleep from her eyes and placing her feet on the cold floorboards below her.
Matthew much to Y/N’s glee, was still sound asleep. He was like his father in so many more ways than he knew- because Henry could also sleep through the loudest storm or shouts.
Charlie was squirming in his crib, his tiny face scrunched up with an utterly horrendous smell coming from his bottom. Y/N gagged as the putrid smell reached her nostrils.
That was one thing that came with being a nanny- soiled nappies were common place and she was the one who had to change them.
Y/N lifted Charlie’s body up out of his crib, and carried him to the dresser fitted with a mat on top.
As she set on changing him, Y/N began to wonder about Henry. This was commonplace for her, especially in the middle of the night.
She’d be a liar if she said that the wound wasn’t still raw and painful. Y/N truly missed him, but she was so so angry- at all the changes he had missed. The fact that he just left with no warning- that he had missed out on so much in Matthew’s life.
Y/N missed the days when she was young and naive, when she thought the perfect guy would come and seek her out.
It wasn’t long after Henry packed his bags that Y/N realised that happy ever afters don’t come so easily. Pain and heartbreak didn’t discriminate between the sinners and saints- it had the ability to take and take and take whenever it wanted.
The young mother carried on her train of thought as she sat down on the rocking chair in the corner, Charlie snuggled against her.
As she began to rock the chair back and forth she reminisced the many times she had done this with Henry’s younger brother, when he was a baby.
In fact it was in the same memory that Henry has complimented her way with children, telling her that she would be a good mum when the time came and that she was a natural.
“Twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are-“
“You’re so pretty.”
Y/N stopped rocking the chair back and forth- caught off guard by the compliment. Did Henry really just say that she was pretty?
“You’re lying Henry Johnson.” She smirked softly, as she raised an eyebrow teasingly.
“‘M serious Y/N/N- you look so beautiful, especially with a baby in your arms. It makes me want one of my own.”
The comment had caught her off guard- and Y/N could feel a blush creep up her neck and rise to her cheeks rapidly, “M-Maybe one day love- When we’re older.”
“Any child would be lucky to have you as their mum- you’re such a blessing and you’re so good with children, they love you.”
“You know just what to say to butter me up Henry.”
He smiled sweetly, a glint of cheekiness in his eyes, “Y/N/N, it’s not buttering you up when it’s the truth.”
“You’ll be the death of me Henry Johnson.”

The Temple Chapter Three
Rachel felt the fire burning within her. A growing passion blazing like a fiery furnace. She wasn’t going to take this sitting down. Enough people had been lied to and hurt by the very same people preaching love, prosperity and peace. As the newspaper journalist once wrote about the place when placing a review on The Temple “like a bunch of quacks.” Although the journalist was talking about Adon’s Elysium language rather than the people themselves being quacks. Maybe they both meant it differently. Rachel didn’t like that. How dare the journalist make fun of Adon’s Elysium language, Tongues. It was a high privilege to learn to speak this language, in which Rachel herself was affluent in. Despite being angry about the segregation within The Temple, she was angry even more at those who dared to trash talk the place. She could trash talk the place because she came from there, but for an outsider to come in and trash the talk the place and it’s people without an ounce of understanding was just wrong. That was on a whole other level. Rachel felt the fire burning within her getting stronger. She was still here in the park with the gang, but now they were on the move. It was getting late and they needed to meet inside somewhere. Usually Ecclesiastes had a place. They followed him silently trudging through the park like a panther, voiceless, silent. This was their strength, they weren’t called The Voiceless for nothing. They trudged out of the park and walked down the road as different cars passed them by. The Temple’s meeting would have ended by now, and right by schedule the stragglers would soon be leaving the place. They always had eating after a meeting in the downstairs hall. One thing The Temple was good at was their impeccable timing. Schedules always ran on time, sermons always finished on point and in time, dance lessons, choir rehearsals always finished on time. Even the stragglers that left behind at the last moment always finished on time. Obedience to the highest degree. They were always obedient to their leaders, quick to listen and slow to speak, a trait of Adon, one that Rachel was proud of. Despite all the drama behind the scenes, there was many things Rachel knew was a divine privilege and something to thank Adon for. Like their sermons, highly theological, highly biblical and highly ethical, highly political, highly correct almost 99% of the time. Their training was also known for its highest quality that even outsiders wanted to join in but they couldn’t get in unless invited. It was rare for an outsider to make their way into their training. If there was one thing Rachel could boast about The Temple was the obedience of the people. Some people would argue that you couldn’t really blame the people, it was the leaders who made all the decisions, even in small group circles. It was very well controlled. Even friendships and social circles were highly controlled units, hence The Voiceless always remained voiceless.
They stood in the quiet darkness that shrouded The Temple as it was late. It was 930pm by now, the cleaners would be finished by 10pm. So they bided their time by sitting behind the wall, lurking in the shadows. Ecclesiastes had extra keys, they could use the downstairs hall without turning on the light, but relying on candles instead. They didn’t want to get caught. As they waited for the cleaners to leave, Rachel watched as Charles closed up. Charles was one of The Loyalists, he had been here a long time, his entire life in fact. Rachel watched Charles look around checking the place just before walking to get into his car and drive off. They waited a few minutes just in case he had forgotten something, but he didn’t come back. Ecclesiastes went up and opened the door and they all piled in as quiet as a mouse. Still silent they clambered down the stairs as silent as a cat’s furry paws hitting the carpet. They entered the lower hall and some of the gang went about taking out their candle sticks and candles and put them up in strategic places.
If there was one thing that Rachel was passionate about it was more than just about the segregation within the community, it was more and this something more was what Rachel was going to address the crowd this evening, after dinner. The people in charge of the food this evening took out their food they had stacked in their bags. Spaghetti, fried chicken, rice and beans, vegetable soup, bread and water. Something for everyone. Rachel sat on one of the chairs and tucked into her food. She wasn’t about to make small conversation just yet, she still felt the fire burning within her and it was burning so much that she knew if she didn’t speak it she herself would get burned. After dinner Rachel stood up at the front with Ecclesiastes by her side. Rachel raised her hand for the gang to become silent. Then Rachel spoke and said these words ““The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Romans 8:3-8, 10-11 NLT
They had the Holy Spirit, they were obedient to Him, the Spirit of Adon. Since they had the Spirit of Adon they could not remain voiceless and shouldn’t be treated like they have nothing good to say, as if they had no fire burning within them, like The Elites. Despite their hypocrisy they too had The Spirit of Adon, it was just their flesh crowding his voice out.
Rachel had paused for effect as the people listened, then she continued “ “Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”
Romans 8:12-14, 16-17 NLT
They too were Adon’s children, they too were heirs to Christ, they too had their place in the kingdom and should never be treated as if they never did belong. Rachel continued ““Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord”
Romans 8:33-39 NLT
They did belong Adon, they were created to bring him glory too, and nobody, nobody was going to push them out. As Rachel stepped down from the front of the crowd, Ecclesiastes decided to speak something and got up in front of the crowd. Ecclesiastes was also a dark skinned man, darker than Rachel, he was a black man with black hair and black roots. He was a man with strong physical structure, good solid build and muscles from all the physical training he had done growing up. This is what he said ““I looked long and hard at what goes on around here, and let me tell you, things are bad. And people feel it. There are people, for instance, on whom God showers everything—money, property, reputation—all they ever wanted or dreamed of. And then God doesn’t let them enjoy it. Some stranger comes along and has all the fun. It’s more of what I’m calling smoke. A bad business. Whatever happens, happens. Its destiny is fixed. You can’t argue with fate. The more words that are spoken, the more smoke there is in the air. And who is any better off? And who knows what’s best for us as we live out our meager smoke-and-shadow lives? And who can tell any of us the next chapter of our lives?”
Ecclesiastes 6:1-2, 10-12 MSG
Ecclesiastes paused for effect and then continued ““A good reputation is better than a fat bank account. Your death date tells more than your birth date. You learn more at a funeral than at a feast— After all, that’s where we’ll end up. We might discover something from it. Crying is better than laughing. It blotches the face but it scours the heart. Sages invest themselves in hurt and grieving. Fools waste their lives in fun and games. You’ll get more from the rebuke of a sage Than from the song and dance of fools. The giggles of fools are like the crackling of twigs Under the cooking pot. And like smoke. Brutality stupefies even the wise And destroys the strongest heart. Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out.”
Ecclesiastes 7:1-8 MSG
Ecclesiastes was addressing all the fun and games of The Temple, they were far too focused on all of their events than they were in sharing The Gospel of Christ Jesus, or loving their neighbour like they loved themselves. No, they were far too focused on labelling people, placing them in categories that they think fits their mould. Religion, Adon Hates.
Ecclesiastes concluded ““I’ve seen it all in my brief and pointless life—here a good person cut down in the middle of doing good, there a bad person living a long life of sheer evil. So don’t knock yourself out being good, and don’t go overboard being wise. Believe me, you won’t get anything out of it. But don’t press your luck by being bad, either. And don’t be reckless. Why die needlessly?”
Ecclesiastes 7:15-17 MSG
The Temple was far too focused on being good and perfect all of the time. Like The Elites, everything had to be just so, they led the entire church not just in worship, but in everything. They were held at a higher standard by Adon, and Adon wasn’t happy with the effects of their overly religous behaviour on silencing and labelling people as voiceless.
Rachel felt the fire within her die down, she had spoken what Adon’s spirit had told her to say, she was obedient to him, not man. They were above the law, because they obeyed the voice of the Spirit of Adon. Rachel had a flashback to when she first encountered Ecclesiastes and he had begun training her there in the shadows, she had found a way out of this broken society and being labelled a voiceless meaningless nobody that would forever be banished by society into a pit of despair with no hope for their future but being a silent witness to everything going on within The Temple. At least she was out now she had said to Him, indeed she was. This is where she belonged, fighting to bring The Gospel of Christ Jesus back into the midst of The Temple, getting rid of all the divides within The Temple and making sure everybody loved their neighbour as they loved themselves.

Mosley, Leonard. Backs to the Wall: London Under Fire, 1939-1954. London: George Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1971; reprint, as Backs to the Wall: The Heroic Story of the People of London During World War II, New York: Random House, 1971.
Each generation gets the history that it needs — or wants, or demands. That’s what kept going through my head as I read Backs to the Wall, which appeared three years after France’s youth explicitly rejected both Charles de Gaulle, the self-appointed leader of the Free French during World War II, and the political ideology that he represented, and amidst ongoing unrest over the Vietnam War. (It’s also worth mentioning that it was published in the same year as Norman Longmate’s How We Lived Then: A History of Everyday Life During the Second World War and two years after Angus Calder’s The People’s War.) This book gives up a World War II narrative in which Churchill was an improvement on Chamberlain only in that he wasn’t an appeaser, de Gaulle was worse than both of them put together, the Allied leaders all cordially loathed each other, half the British public wanted to sue for peace, and there was across-the-board mutual dislike between London civilians and American troops (and British dismay at the way African-American troops were treated by their white counterparts was far from universal). Do I exaggerate? Only slightly. Backs to the Wall is a sort of distant, city-specific pre-echo of Juliet Gardner’s sour 2004 book Wartime: Britain, 1939-45.
As with Wartime, however, this book does have the virtue of introducing us to a number of very interesting people. I became interested in reading it because it brought Vere Hodgson’s wartime diary to public attention. Mosley quotes or paraphrases Hodgson’s writing from the beginning of the war through its end, and also seems to have interviewed her extensively. His primary villain, meanwhile, is not Chamberlain but Chamberlain’s chief acolyte, Henry “Chips” Channon, from whose diary he quotes widely (and who turns out to have been born and raised in the United States, to my surprise). We hear a great deal from the chemist and novelist C.P. Snow and follow the misadventures of two civilians, Jenny Martin and Polly Wright, whose consistency in both bad luck and bad choices meant that neither of them was able to stay out of serious trouble for any length of time.
There are many glimpses of the London home front through the eyes of two boys, both eight when the war began: John Hardiman, of Canning Town and later of Aldgate, who was evacuated in 1939 but soon returned to London, and Donald Ketley of Chadwell Heath, who was never evacuated at all. Donald, who thoroughly enjoyed himself during the war, had an experience that speaks to our own recent reality:
Another good thing: quite early in the Blitz, his school had been totally destroyed by a bomb. Since Donald was shy, a poor student and unpopular with his teacher, he was overjoyed when he heard the place was gone. Thereafter he went each day to his teacher’s home to pick up lessons, which he brought back the next day for marking. In the following months he changed from a poor student to an excellent one, and although he was aware that his teacher rather resented it, he didn’t care.
Mosley also introduces us to Archibald McIndoe, the real-life counterpart of Patrick Jamieson, Bill Patterson’s character in the Foyle’s War episode ‘Enemy Fire.’ Art seems to have imitated life pretty accurately in that instance: he and his burn hospital in East Grinstead were apparently exactly like what was depicted, the only difference being that the hospital was set up in an existing hospital building, not in a requisitioned stately home.
Backs to the Wall seems to have been one of the earliest books to make substantial use of Mass-Observation writings. Most M-O diaries are anonymous, but there are two named diarists here who stand out. John James Donald was a committed pacifist whose air of lofty detachment as he observes the reactions of those around him to air-raids and other wartime event and prepares for his tribunal — which, in the end, he decides not to attend — quickly grows irritating. More interesting is Rosemary Black, a 28-year-old widow, in no small part because she differs markedly from what I had thought of as the archetypical M-O writer. Here’s her self-description on M-O documents: “Upper-middle-class; mother of two children (girls aged 3 and 2); of independent means.” Mosley continues:
She lived in a trim three-story house in a quiet street of the fashionable part of Maida Vale, a short taxi ride from the center of the West End, whose restaurants and theatres she knew well. She was chic and attractive, and lacked very few of the niceties of life: there was Irene, a Hungarian refugee, to look after the children; Helen, a Scottish maid, to look after herself and the house; and a daily cleaning woman to do the major chores.
Black took her children out of London at the beginning of the war but quickly brought them back, and when bombs began falling she kept them in place — air raids might be disruptive for them, but apparently relocation had been worse. She was very much aware that she was riding out the war in a position of privilege, and she often expressed guilt feelings; but this tended to fade away before her irritation at the dominance of “the muddling amateur or the soulless bureaucrat” in the war effort. Offering her services, even as a volunteer, proved very frustrating. “She was young, strong and willing; she typed, spoke languages, was an expert driver and had taken a course in first aid,” Mosley tells us, “but finding a job even as a chauffeur was proving difficult” in September 1940. (She actually wasn’t all that strong physically: as we learn, she suffered from rheumatism which grew worse during the war years and probably affected her outlook.)
Black was greeted with “apathy and indifference” by both A.R.P. and the Women’s Voluntary Service. Early in 1941 she was finally able to get a place handing out tea, sandwiches, cake, and so on to rescue and clean-up workers at bomb sites from a Y.M.C.A. mobile canteen. She was a bit intimidated by the women with whom she found herself working:
Their class is right up to the county family level. Nearly everyone is tall above the average and remarkably hefty, even definitely large, not necessarily fat but broad and brawny. Perhaps this is something to do with the survival of the fittest.
And the work did bring her some satisfaction, even if it was of the type that lent itself to being recorded with tongue placed firmly in cheek:
We had a pleasant and uneventful day’s work serving City fire sites, the General Post Office, demolition workers and Home Guard Stations, etc. We were complimented at least half a dozen times on the quality of our tea ... I think the provision of saccharine for the tea urns to compensate for the mean sugar allowance is my most successful piece of war work. What did you do in the Great War, Mummy? Sneaked pills into the tea urns, darling.
For all her good humor and astute observations, Mrs. Black was far from immune to tiny-mindedness. After an evening out in 1943 she wrote:
I had to wait some time for the others in the cinema foyer, and I was much struck, as often before, by the almost complete absence of English people these days, from the capital of England. Almost every person who came in was either a foreigner, a roaring Jew, or both. The Cumberland [Hotel] has always been a complete New Jerusalem, but this evening it really struck me as no worse than anywhere else! It is really dismaying to see that this should be the result of this war in defence of our country.
Indeed, Mosley cites the results of a multi-year Mass-Observation study that showed a marked increase in anti-Jewish views London’s general population over the course of the war. Since it’s just one study, and since I haven’t seen that study mentioned anywhere else, I am reluctant to trust blindly in its accuracy; and there’s also this:
The small flat which George [Hardiman] had procured for [his family] ... in Aldgate was cleaner and airier than the old house in Canning Town [which had been bombed], and the little Jewish children with whom John now went to school seemed to be cleaner than the ones in Elm Road; at any rate, he no longer came home with nits in his hair.
On the other hand, Mosley himself gives us only a fragmentary view of London’s wartime Jewish population: everyone seems to be either a terrified refugee or an impoverished East Ender. We hear nothing about the substantial middle- and upper-middle class population — mostly of German descent and in some cases German birth — that had already taken shape in Northwest London; and while we are briefly introduced to Sir David Waley, a Treasury official, in connection with the case of an interned Jewish refugee, we aren’t told that Waley himself was Jewish, a member of “the cousinhood.” On yet a third hand, Mosley also quotes other M-O surveys from the same period that indicate largely hostile attitudes to most foreigners in London, with Poles at the bottom of the ladder and the small Dutch contingent on top. (Incidentally, the book’s extremely patchy index identifies Vere Hodgson as a Mass-Observation diarist, which she wasn’t.)
Backs to the Wall closes with a very brief, remarkably non-partisan account of the 1945 general election and its immediate aftermath. “Neither side had any inkling of the way the minds of the British voters were turning,” he writes.
When [Churchill’s] friends suggested that he was a victim of base ingratitude, he shook his head. He would not have such a charge leveled against his beloved countrymen. Ingratitude? "Oh, no," he said quietly, "I wouldn’t call it that. They have had a very hard time."
The book is worth reading for the primary materials that it includes, but it probably tells us as much about the era in which it was written as about the period that it covers.

one of my main issues w gregoryverse shows is how they have this strict black vs white morality except its not based on any moral system or right vs wrong but on whether its the protagonist or the “villain”
and like. i get that a show about elizabeth woodville isn’t gonna make the lancasters look saintly, but it also doesn’t have to make them look like demons. at no point in the 3 damn shows she was in (one of which took place 20 years after the damn york vs lancaster thing was over!!) was margaret beaufort presented as anything but a religious fanatic obsessed with making her son king even tough being ambitious somehow wasn’t an issue when it was about elizabeth becoming queen and im sorry but that’s just straight up lazy writing. you can let the audience make their own conculsions as to who is good who is bad and who they wanna root for, you’re making a show about real people, you should make them multi dimensional.
and this makes the show feel off sometimes - i think this was most prominent in twp with elizabeth of york, she is the protagonist and yet?? it didn’t feel like the writers were trying to make her brother or her mother the villains, they were trying to make you be mad at her, for doing... exactly the same thing her mother was doing in the previous show lol. and it felt weird because obviously, she is the protagonist, and she was never marketed to be a villain protagonist, it doesn’t make sense for her to be a villain protagonist - story wise the only was i can describe it is it felt off.
the thing is, it isn’t that hard to make characters sympathetic even when they oppose the protagonist, or hell even acknowledge the bad things the protagonist does - a great example would be the tudors. now the tudors had a lot of issues and i don’t want to give the writers too much credit (we know how hard natalie fought to make anne more than a pretty face) but if there was one thing it did well is make you feel sympathetic to characters who were each other’s enemies - you had sympathy for catherine of aragon and her death and yet you were sad for anne boleyn’s demise, you felt sad when jane seymour died, you even had some sympathy for cromwell at his execution and wolsey before his death. they showed the characters as people, they showed each of their perspectives, and at the end when it came to most of the major characters they let you decide whether they deserved what happened to them or not. obviously there were exceptions - the portrayal of thomas boleyn for example, or imo charles brandon was perhaps the one character who was written like he was Above It All for me, even more than henry himself. they didn’t try to bully you into hating catherine because of anne, or hating anne because of jane - meanwhile, twq/twp/tsp is so desparate for you to hate margaret beaufort that it has her murder the man she (in show) loves, orders the assasination of 2 children, is partially to blame for the death of her brother and has a man executed in order to keep secret the fact she stole taxes or whatever, none of which were things that actually happened - the most sympathy we ever see for her is remembering giving birth to her son a few moments after he dies. hell, her death scene is presented in a way that made me think that they would have her literally be dragged to fucking hell. they could’ve made her and elizabeth woodville/margaret pole/catherine of aragon enemies without making her seem like a literal demon the whole time. the most i remember of trying to make characters seem as more than just Pure Evil is with richard earl of warwick (which was sloppy imo), kind of with anne neville (which was just badly done and out of left field) and richard iii which was honestly with a complete butchery of his character only to be like “actually we change our minds he is good after all” in the last episode. that’s bullshit.

2. Queen Mary is a widow. Unfortunately, a few years after the birth of her second son, her husband the Late Prince Edward passed away. The cause of death has not yet been released, although it has been over 10 years (stay tuned)
3. Most parents with two children refer to one as their ‘pride’ and the other as their ‘joy’. Queen Mary playfully refers to her two sons as her ‘pain’ and her ‘pain-relief’. The eldest, Prince Philip, is the ‘pain-relief’ who Queen Mary can count on to always listen to her. Contrarily her second-born Prince Charles, her ‘pain’, is the child she always has to keep an eye on. Not to mention that Charles’ birth was more painful than Philip’s.
4. Queen Mary married her late husband out of love, in the same way that her late father had married her late mother out of love. Likewise, her greatest wish is for both her sons to marry out of love, so she’s been delaying arranging for someone for Prince Philip, so that he can find someone for himself.
5. After the death of her Late Father, his advisor, Duke Christopher, became a father-figure to her. She meets with him regularly in the palace and he has been a source of comfort since the death of her husband. She can also rely on him to have the ‘difficult talks’ when it comes to her sons.
This was fun :)
xoxo, sosa...

Ikevamp suitors pt.1
Since some of us might have never heard of some of the ikevamp suitor i decided to introduce them all one by one, and give some little fun facts about their real life contrepart.
1-Napoleon Bonapart
Napoleon Bonaparte was a French statesman and military leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the French Revolutionary Wars. He was Emperor of the French as Napoleon I from 1804 until 1814 and again briefly in 1815 during the Hundred Days. Napoleon's political and cultural legacy has endured as one of the most celebrated and controversial leaders in human history.
Date and place of birth :15 August 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica, France.
Date and place of death : 5 May 1821 (aged 51) Longwood, Saint Helena, United Kingdom.
Cause of death : Stomach cancer (confirmed)
Love life : Napoleon married Joséphine de Beauharnais in 1796, when he was 26 and she was a 32-year-old. She had an affair with many lovers during Napoleon's Italian campaign. But he had his own affairs too: during the Egyptian campaign he took Pauline Bellisle Fourès, the wife of a junior officer, as his mistress. While Napoleon's mistresses had children by him, Joséphine did not produce an heir. Napoleon chose divorce so he could remarry in search of an heir. Despite his divorce from Josephine, Napoleon showed his dedication to her for the rest of his life. When he heard the news of her death while on exile in Elba, he locked himself in his room and would not come out for two full days. Her name would also be his final word on his deathbed in 1821. On 11 March 1810 by proxy, he married the 19-year-old Marie Louise, Archduchess of Austria, and a great niece of Marie Antoinette. Napoleon and Marie Louise remained married until his death, though she did not join him in exile on Elba and thereafter never saw her husband again. The couple had one child, Napoleon Francis Joseph Charles (1811–1832), known from birth as the King of Rome. He became Napoleon II in 1814.
Fun Facts :
1- Judging from letters between the two, Napoleon was desperately infatuated with his wife Josephine and expressed an insecure neediness.
2- He wasn’t actually short. He was probably around five-foot-six(152 cm)—which was actually just about average for the era.
3- He once wrote a romance novel called Clisson et Eugénie.
4- He was afraid of cats
5- Beethoven originally planned to dedicate his 3rd symphony to napoleon.
6- He attempted suicide before his exile in Elba
7- He would disguise himself and walk the streets
8- He was tone deaf
9- He carried a vial of poison, attached to a cord he wore around his neck, that could be swiftly downed should he ever be captured.
If you liked this format pls give a like and tell me which one of the ikevamp suitors would you want next ! I’ll choose the most asked one. Of course sebastian is impossible because he is not a historical figure.
Pt.2 Mozart \ Pt.3 Arthur \ Pt.4 Leonardo \ Pt.5 Newton

Ralph Abernathy
Ralph David Abernathy Sr. (March 11, 1926 – April 17, 1990) was an American civil rights activist and Baptist minister. He was ordained in the Baptist tradition in 1948. As a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, he was a close friend and mentor of Martin Luther King Jr. He collaborated with King to create the Montgomery Improvement Association which led to the Montgomery bus boycott. He also co-founded and was an executive board member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He became president of the SCLC following the assassination of King in 1968, where he led the Poor People's Campaign in Washington, D.C. among other marches and demonstrations for disenfranchised Americans. He also served as an advisory committee member of the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE).
In 1971, Abernathy addressed the United Nations about world peace. He also assisted in brokering a deal between the FBI and Indian protestors during the Wounded Knee incident of 1973. He retired from his position as president of the SCLC in 1977 and became president emeritus. That year he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives for the 5th district of Georgia. He later founded the Foundation for Economic Enterprises Development, and he testified before the U.S. Congress in support of extending of the Voting Rights Act in 1982.
In 1989, Abernathy wrote And the Walls Came Tumbling Down, a controversial autobiography about his and King's involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. He was ridiculed for statements in the book about King's alleged marital infidelities. Abernathy eventually became less active in politics and returned to his work as a minister. He died of heart disease on April 17, 1990. His tombstone is engraved with the words "I tried".
Early life, family, and education
Abernathy, 10th of William and Louivery Abernathy's 12 children, was born on March 11, 1926, on their family 500-acre (200 ha) farm in Linden, Alabama. Abernathy's father was the first African-American to vote in Marengo County, Alabama, and the first to serve on a grand jury there. Abernathy attended Linden Academy (a Baptist school founded by the First Mt. Pleasant District Association). At Linden Academy, Abernathy led his first demonstrations to improve the livelihoods of his fellow students.
During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army, and rose to the rank of Platoon Sergeant before being discharged. Afterwards, he enrolled at Alabama State University using the benefits from the G.I. Bill, which he earned with his service. As a sophomore, he was elected president of the student council, and led a successful hunger strike to raise the quality of the food served on the campus. While still a college student, Abernathy announced his call to the ministry, which he had envisioned since he was a small boy growing up in a devout Baptist family. He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1948, and preached his first sermon on Mother's Day (in honor of his recently deceased mother). In 1950 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. During that summer Abernathy hosted a radio show and became the first black man on radio in Montgomery, Alabama. In the fall, he then went on to further his education at Atlanta University, earning his Master of Arts degree in sociology with High Honors in 1951.
He began his professional career in 1951, when he was appointed as the dean of men at Alabama State University. Later that year, he became the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church, the largest black church in Montgomery, where he served for ten years.
He married Juanita Odessa Jones of Uniontown, Alabama, on August 31, 1952. Together they had five children: Ralph David Abernathy Jr., Juandalynn Ralpheda, Donzaleigh Avis, Ralph David Abernathy III, and Kwame Luthuli Abernathy. Their first child, Ralph Abernathy Jr., died suddenly on August 18, 1953, less than 2 days after his birth on August 16, while their other children lived on to adulthood.
In 1954, Abernathy met Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who — at the time — was just becoming a pastor himself at a nearby church. Abernathy mentored King and the two men eventually became close friends.
Civil rights activism
Montgomery bus boycott
After the arrest of Rosa Parks on December 1, 1955, for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, Abernathy (then a member of the Montgomery NAACP) collaborated with King to create the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA), which organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Along with fellow English professor Jo Ann Robinson, they called for and distributed flyers asking the black citizens of Montgomery to stay off the buses. The boycott attracted national attention, and a federal court case that ended on December 17, 1956, when the U.S. Supreme Court, in Browder v. Gayle, upheld an earlier District Court decision that the bus segregation was unconstitutional. The 381-day transit boycott, challenging the "Jim Crow" segregation laws, had been successful. And on December 20, 1956, the boycott came to an end.
After the boycotts, Abernathy's home and church were bombed. His family were barely able to escape their home, but they were unharmed. Abernathy's church, Mt. Olive Church, Bell Street Church, and the home of Robert Graetz were also bombed on that evening, while King, Abernathy, and 58 other black leaders from the south were meeting at the Southern Negro Leaders Conference on Transportation and Nonviolent Integration, in Atlanta.
Civil Rights Movement
On January 11, 1957, after a two-day long meeting, the Southern Leaders Conference on Transportation and Non-violent Integration, was founded. On February 14, 1957, the Conference convened again in New Orleans. During that meeting, they changed the group's name to the Southern Leadership Conference and appointed the following executive board: King, president; Charles Kenzie Steele, vice president; Abernathy, Financial Secretary-Treasurer; T. J. Jemison, secretary; I. M. Augustine, general counsel. On August 8, 1957, the Southern Leadership Conference held its first convention, in Montgomery, Alabama. At that time, they changed the Conference's name for the final time to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and decided upon starting up voter registration drives for black people across the south.
On May 20, 1961, the Freedom Riders stopped in Montgomery, Alabama while on their way from Washington, D.C. to New Orleans, Louisiana, to protest the still segregated buses across the south. Many of the Freedom Riders were beaten once they arrived at the Montgomery bus station, by a white mob, causing several of the riders to be hospitalized. The following night Abernathy and King set up an event in support of the Freedom Riders, where King would make an address, at Abernathy's church. More than 1,500 people came to the event that night. The church was soon surrounded by a mob of white segregationists who laid siege on the church. King, from inside the church, called the Attorney General Robert Kennedy, and pleaded for help from the federal government. There was a group of United States Marshals sent there to protect the event, but they were too few in number to protect the church from the angry mob, who had begun throwing rocks and bricks through the windows of the church. Reinforcements with riot experience, from the Marshals service, were sent in to help defend the perimeter. By the next morning, the Governor of Alabama, after being called by Kennedy, sent in the Alabama National Guard, and the mob was finally dispersed. After the success of the Freedom Riders in Montgomery, Birmingham, and Huntsville in 1961, King insisted that Abernathy assume the Pastorate of the West Hunter Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, and Abernathy did so, moving his family from Montgomery, Alabama, in 1962.
The King/Abernathy partnership spearheaded successful nonviolent movements in Montgomery; Albany, Georgia; Birmingham; Mississippi; Washington D.C.; Selma, Alabama; St. Augustine; Chicago; and Memphis. King and Abernathy journeyed together, often sharing the same hotel rooms, and leisure times with their wives, children, family, and friends. And they were both jailed 17 times together, for their involvement in the movement.
During Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination
On April 3, 1968, at the Mason Temple, Abernathy introduced King before he made his last public address; King said at the beginning of his now famous "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech:
As I listened to Ralph Abernathy and his eloquent and generous introduction and then thought about myself, I wondered who he was talking about. It's always good to have your closest friend and associate to say something good about you, and Ralph Abernathy is the best friend that I have in the world.
The following day, April 4, 1968, Abernathy was with King in the room (Room 306) they shared at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. At 6:01 p.m. while Abernathy was inside the room getting cologne, King was shot while standing outside on the balcony. Once the shot was fired Abernathy ran out to the balcony and cradled King in his arms as he lay unconscious. Abernathy accompanied King to St. Joseph's Hospital within fifteen minutes of the shooting. The doctors performed an emergency surgery, but he never regained consciousness. King was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. at age 39.
Leadership of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
Until King's assassination, Abernathy had served as Southern Christian Leadership Conference's first Financial Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President At-Large. After King's death, Abernathy assumed the presidency of the SCLC. One of his first roles was to take up the role of leading a march to support striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee which King and Abernathy had planned before King's assassination. In May 1968, Abernathy led the Poor People's Campaign in Washington, D.C.
Protest at NASA
On the eve of the Apollo 11 launch, July 15, 1969, Abernathy arrived at Cape Canaveral with several hundred members of the poor people campaign to protest spending of government space exploration, while many Americans remained poor. He was met by Thomas O. Paine, the administrator of NASA, whom he told that in the face of such suffering, space flight represented an inhuman priority and funds should be spent instead to "feed the hungry, clothe the naked, tend the sick, and house the homeless". Paine told Abernathy that the advances in space exploration were "child's play" compared to the "tremendously difficult human problems" of society Abernathy was discussing. Later in 1969, Abernathy also took part in a labor struggle in Charleston, South Carolina, on behalf of the hospital workers of the local union 1199B, which led to a living wage increase and improved working conditions for thousands of hospital workers.
Wounded Knee
In 1973, Abernathy helped negotiate a peace settlement at the Wounded Knee uprising between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the leaders of the American Indian Movement, Russell Means and Dennis Banks.
Abernathy remained president of the SCLC for nine years following King's death in 1968. After King's death the organization lost the popularity it had under his leadership. By the time Abernathy left the organization the SCLC had become indebted, and critics stated that it wasn't as imaginative as the SCLC led by Dr. King. In 1977 Abernathy resigned from his leadership role at the SCLC, and was bestowed the title president emeritus.
Political career and later activism
Abernathy addressed the United Nations in 1971 on World Peace. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. In 1977, he ran unsuccessfully for Georgia's 5th Congressional District seat, losing to Congressman Wyche Fowler. He founded the nonprofit organization Foundation for Economic Enterprises Development (FEED), which offered managerial and technical training, creating jobs, income, business and trade opportunities for underemployed and unemployed workers for underprivileged blacks.
In 1979, Abernathy endorsed Senator Edward M. Kennedy's candidacy for the Presidency of the United States. However, he shocked critics a few weeks before the 1980 November election, when he endorsed the front-runner, Ronald Reagan, over the struggling presidential campaign of Jimmy Carter. Abernathy stated of his endorsement: "The Republican Party has too long ignored us and the Democratic Party has taken us for granted and so since all of my colleagues and the latter in various places across the country were supporting the Democratic Party, I felt that I should support Ronald Reagan." After the disappointing performance of the Reagan Administration on civil rights and other areas, Abernathy withdrew his endorsement of Reagan in 1984.
In 1982, Abernathy testified—along with his executive associate, James Peterson of Berkeley, California—before the Congressional Hearings calling for the Extension of the Voting Rights Act.
Documents declassified in 2017 show that Abernathy was on the National Security Agency watchlist because of FBI leadership's hatred of the civil rights movement.
And the Walls Came Tumbling Down
In late 1989, Harper Collins published Abernathy's autobiography, And the Walls Came Tumbling Down. It was his final published accounting of his close partnership with King and their work in the Civil Rights Movement. In it he revealed King's marital infidelity, stating that King had sexual relations with two women on the night of April 3, 1968 (after his "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech earlier that day). The book's revelations became the source of much controversy, as did Abernathy. Jesse Jackson and other civil rights activists made a statement in October 1989—after the book's release—that the book was "slander" and that "brain surgery" must have altered Abernathy's perception.
Unification Church
In the 1980s, the Unification Church hired Abernathy as a spokesperson to protest the news media's use of the term "Moonies", which they compared with the word "nigger". Abernathy also served as vice president of the Unification Church-affiliated group American Freedom Coalition, and served on two Unification Church boards of directors.
Death
Abernathy died at Emory Crawford Long Memorial Hospital on the morning of April 17, 1990, from two blood clots that traveled to his heart and lungs, five weeks after his 64th birthday. After his death, George H. W. Bush, then-President of the United States issued the following statement:
Barbara and I join with all Americans to mourn the passing of the Rev. Ralph Abernathy, a great leader in the struggle for civil rights for all Americans and a tireless campaigner for justice.
He is entombed in the Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. At Abernathy's behest, his tomb has the simple inscription: "I TRIED."
Tributes and portrayals
During his lifetime, Abernathy was honored with more than 300 awards and citations, including five honorary doctorate degrees. He received a Doctor of Divinity from Morehouse College, a Doctor of Divinity from Kalamazoo College in Michigan, a Doctor of Laws from Allen University of South Carolina, a Doctor of Laws from Long Island University in New York, and a Doctor of Laws at Alabama State University.
Ralph D. Abernathy Hall at Alabama State Hall is dedicated to him, with a bust of his head in the foyer area.
Interstate 20 Ralph David Abernathy Freeway, Abernathy Road, and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard of Atlanta were named in his honor.
Abernathy is played by Ernie Lee Banks in the 1978 miniseries King, by Colman Domingo in the 2014 film Selma, a film about the Selma to Montgomery marches, Martin Luther King Jr., and SCLC, and by Dohn Norwood in the 2016 film All the Way.
