Hi! I love your take on fanon as i feel certain things they try to hype are wrong. I wanted to ask you what's your opinion on fanon slade/dick? I for one am not happy with it, not because (as I've been accused of) being against the pairing being both males... I honestly don't have anything against, but because I feel it overlooks the fact that Dick was a teenager, held against his will to work for a man who stands for everything he is against with his friends' lives being the only reason for his bidding. Although dick and Slade may have a mutual respect sort of thing but I don't think it's right to pair them as lovers? Again I just wanted to ask, feel free to ignore this. Thank you

Sladick is actually my otp! But that being said, I actually do understand and mostly agree.

Personally I don't really think about his apprenticeship and I know that sounds totally weird coming from someone who ships them but really...I only like it for the fact that Dick got trained by an extremely skilled fighter. I don't ship them during that arc because it's just meh for me aside from that.

Really, Slade, holding a kid you find interesting captive? Seriously.

The reason I ship them isn't because of the renegade arc, but because Slade shows an obsession in Dick that he does unparalleled to in anyone else.

Like Dick and his gang will literally be minding their own business and then there's Slade:

This scene cracks me up because Dick has completely forgotten that Slade even exists but Slade cannot forgot about Dick for one second, physically stalking every single word and move of his. I love that dysfunctional behavior.

But also I completely understand why people don't want to pair them up. Their relationship is more like exclusive rivals than lovers so it's funner to see them fighting as equals. It's also on the fringes of what's morally right. Some of the things Slade has done has gone beyond acceptable parameters. But Slade treats Dick different from the rest of his enemies and allies and I like that.

And also my favorite trope is enemies to lovers which is another reason why I do.

I think you're right about the renegade arc and one of the reasons I don't care for it in romantic terms is that Dick was forcibly being held captive with the threat of his friends' lives over his head. It loses its shine to me because of that. Because I believe strongly in equal power dynamics no matter the ship. I don't understand the appeal in one person holding all the power over another! It's annoys the heck out of me when one person is subservient to another like - NO! It wasn't consensual and I'm a little worried to think about the implications behind his training. Did Slade really want to craft Dick into his image? What measures did he take to do so? Or did he treat Dick like he did in the comics- with a firm but admiring push? There's too many unknowns I don't want to know about so I just kinda push it to the side. Dick was also far too young, and he wasn't happy then. It's just...I don't mind when people do ship them because of it because it's their prerogative, but personally I’m into power battles. Also I really just don't care about renegade arc aside from loving how Slade saw the potential in Robin Dick like every other villain before him and took steps to bring it forward because he, like Lady Shiva, thought Bruce was useless in bringing out Dick's dormant potential. Some of the best fics I've read were ones where Slade acts more like a father or confidant to Dick than a lover and honestly I was perfectly happy with that!

Dick is strong and crazy and badass and that's one of greatest feats and they shouldn't be shipped because Slade wants to break him, they should be shipped because he wants an equal! I'm really into Nightwing+ ships with Slade because Dick is in a position to make his own choices, hold his own and win, and be able to be happy in a relationship of his choosing. I feel like sometimes fanon ships them for the wrong reasons. It's not about the circumstance, it's about the interest.

You know what? I got it. Why I'm into them. I just like people who let Dick be Dick.

I like anyone who brings out the best in him and Slade brings out the best of Dick's fighting abilities and intellect. Furthermore, Dick has met the entirety of Slade's family and formed close ties with them (enemy, friend, confidant, mentor, second-parent, etc).

So even though I do ship them, personally, I agree with you. I don't mind if you do or don't ship them because they can go either way, and I would never enforce my views on you because your beliefs are important, valid, interesting, and I love hearing about them! Glorestor or Glorfindel / Erestor of Middle Earth Fanon Fame. Not that I don't CARE about it anymore, mind you. There's just not enough new content (for obvious reasons god it's old and there's like one conversation of original source material). I don't think about them as much anymore. Like I used to be reading fanfic EVERY NIGHT and we're talking like novel length fanfics (as you can imagine people in the LOTR fandom write lol). Anyway here's some super old fan art... (>u<)

Oh god...something Dynasty Warriors related for sure...

Like the first one I wrote or read?? I went into my oldest of old "old writing" folders and found this list of docs that I haven't been touched in over ten years. SO I'm gonna saaaay it was a Dynasty Warriors fanfic...one of these pairings. (^ ^;)

I feel like it would have been something Inuyasha related. That or something Final Fantasy X. I do not remember, but it was probably some version of these scene.

Jinx/Powder and Ekko. Those two were supposed to be best friends back when they were kids and it's a pity that all we got from this was some glimpses in a music video, some jabs as teens/young adults and a flashback-esque scene. I think it would also make their fight scenes hit harder.

15. which character I would choose for the chopping block if I knew the writers wanted to kill someone.

Singed perhaps. Mainly because I don't want more death near my faves! Though I know that that's probably a long shot, especially after that post of Ella Purnell...

I just love their chemistry so much! Their whole dynamic is really great. It looks like they are so different and like it wouldn't/shouldn't work but still it does, because of their differences and because at their core they're both so similar.

I honestly don't know ifni can explain it any better. I just think they're really neat!

9. what my ideal endgame for them is.

Pretty much the same as yours. They end up being happily in a relationship, after solving the whole situation with Jinx and while working through their traumas.

12. about three of the scenes that make me have feelings and (if available) find the gifs that underline my points.

Scene 1. "You're hot, cupcake." I don't think this one needs an explanation.

Scene 2. Caitlyn caring for Vi after Sevika stabs her. This type of scenes is always a win for me in whatever kind of relationship and the tenderness Caitlyn show to Vi at this moment, while Vi is so adamant about refusing it, but ultimately accepts it... God I love it!

This part especially!!!

Scene 3. That scene of them in Caitlyn's bedroom. Them lying together, the softness of their voices, Vi being vulnerable with Cait, talking to her about a happy memory and about her guilt and Cait offering nothing but gentleness...

I mean look at the way she's touching her! And how Vi looks at her!!!

14. which tropes I think describe them the best.

Class divide, definitely, and opposites attract. Also, I think princess and knight suits them really well.

Caitlyn:

1). why I love them, like them or hate them.

Caitlyn is to me one of the most genuine characters in Arcane, especially when you compare her to the rest of the people in Piltover. Her honesty and humility and kindness really set her apart from nearly everyone surrounding her, along with her willingness to do stuff on her own instead of having someone else do it for her. As she states herself, she is a misfit and I love her for that!

8. a headcanon I have about this character.

Since that shooting competition and her talk with Sheriff Grayson, Caitlyn started idolizing her. Grayson maybe even took her under her wing for a while (I'm saying maybe because we don't know exactly when that competition took place).

10. if I liked them immediately or if took a while before I warmed up to their character. Alternatively, if I disliked them immediately or if they lost my trust as their story progressed.

I kinda liked her from the beginning. I thought she was adorable as a kid (massive props to her voice actress). But she elevated to favorite status as the story was progressing. When we first met her as a child I thought she would be kind of like a side character and that we wouldn't be seeing much of her, and boy am I glad I was proven wrong!

13. how I'd do it if they had to be written out of the story.

From what I understand, this means how I would change the story if I had to remove Caitlyn.

Hmmm... pretty tough. Story-wise, Caitlyn is really important. She breaks Vi out of prison, she has connections to the council, thus being able to actually remind them that the people of the Undercity exists, because we know they wouldn't on their own...

In that case, I think a change I would make, would be Vi breaking out of Stillwater herself after hearing Silco's goon complain about this blue-haired girl with the bombs and realizes that's her sister. She kicks his ass like in canon, basically starting a riot, and into the chaos she fights her way out. She almost escapes, but she is stopped bybthe guy in the entrance. She puts up a fight again, but since she knows she can't fight anymore, she pretends to get beaten to death so they dump her body in the water. When they do, she swims to the other side and voila, Vi is back.

Now the rest for a good part goes as in canon. Vi returns to the lanes, she gets her jacket and her food, she goes to the brothel for info, confronts Sevika and when she gets stabbed, instead of Caitlyn, Ekko's the one who saves her. He saw her entering the Undercity after her escape and followed her. He brings her to his hideout, with the rest of the firelights, they tend to her wound and he fills her in on what happened during her absence. Vi of course doesn't really accept that her sister has changed and insists she can help her.

Meanwhile, like in canon Sevika tells Jinx about Vi being back, as a chance to get rid of her. Jinx goes out and the iconic flare scene takes place.

At the same time, after Ekko and some of the fireflies leave, Vi sneaks out and follows them, but then sees the smoke and goes up to find her sister.

The two reunite, but then Ekko and the others show up, a fight breaks out and Vi tries to get them all to stop, even yelling "Powder, that's Ekko!" And her responding "Yeah, no shit!" or something like that. Vi gets knocked down again, either by accident, by trying to get Jinx to stop shooting , which ends with her slamming her machine gun on her face (similarly like how she did with Caitlyn) and that makes her freeze for a moment like "Holy shit I hurt Vi!". The firelights take advantage of this, overpower her and take both her and Vi back in their hideout.

That's all I could think of so far. Come to think of it, I think it would be a good idea for a fanfic!

I don't write a lot of romance (and honestly don't know what common dynamics there are), but I think my favorite ship dynamic is probably Edgy One x Soft One. Not necessarily in a Sunshine One x Grumpy One way but more in a one person is rough around the edges but the other one wears their heart on their sleeve kind of thing (which has more bearing on how easy it is for them to open up to each other and be vulnerable than on their personalities necessarily). I also like Badass Lady x Dorky Male Wife (which might fall into this category lol 😂)

Unfortunately my favorite genre "Slice of Life" is not listed and my 2nd favorite genre "Hurt/Comfort" is also not listed. Out of these 4 though...

Definitely Fluff, then Angst or Crack depending on my mood, and I don't write Smut 💀 (and honestly don't even like writing the characters kissing because I'm just so not into any of that) so that's a big no from me personally.

🥝 What’s your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write?

SLICE OF LIFE. Hands down! I thought it was my most used tag, but I checked and it's my second most used (but only because my most used tag is "Friendship" lol. I really am so predictable 😅). I love it because I feel like I have the freedom to really write a window into a characters' heart and their wide range of complex emotions beyond just a small box like "fluff" or "angst." Those can be good too, but I feel like when I write in those genres the focus is really narrow and I prefer the more wholistic bittersweetness of slice-of-life where the POV character can be happy, sad, angry, confused, nervous ect. ect. all about the same event without me as the author feeling like I need to focus on one of those emotions more than the others, if that makes sense? Also, I just love writing the little mundane but meaningful moments in a character's life, especially if they take place on the other side of a lot of suffering and pain (i.e. Langris and Finral just hanging out together after healing from their trauma and rebuilding their brotherly relationship. This is the kind of stuff I live for!!)

My 3rd most used tag is "Hurt/Comfort." I adore Hurt/Comfort especially between friends and family members (which is one of those things I also don't think it talked about enough. It doesn't/shouldn't have to be a romantic thing imo).

Just to list a few other tags I like, I usually throw in "Please don't take this too seriously" when I'm trying to write something silly or lighthearted, and some ultra specific tags, "Soft Langris is the Best Langris," "Hero deserves happiness," '[Insert Character Here] Is Bad At Feelings," and (a personal favorite I made up myself), "The Queen of Witches & Ledior & Liliane Vaude can all take a hike together in hell."

Off the top of my head, probably "You honestly thought you were in my league." I feel like I talked about that moment plenty (with some people, or maybe with myself), and also not enough, but it really feels like the first (or one of the first) times his core character really shines on its own.

And due to how it's all constructed, in the moment all you can really think about is how much you agree. You just sit there, somewhere between utterly fascinated and deeply... immersed, for lack of a better word, and it's the exact way they want you to feel. They want this to stick, so it does. It's just a good scene.

How I feel about this character: I wanna study her like a bug. She's so cute and sure, sometimes obnoxious but even Rachel at her worst is endearing in that over the top kind of way. The Glee fandom in general has such a weird attitude towards her (that I'm pretty sure is influenced by Lea Michele) but idc I love her.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Out of the canon ships, I think St Berry is probably the best one. I'm not huge on shipping otherwise but obviously a messy Pezberry romance is like crack to me and on a different, more competent show Faberry could have been 👌👌

I'm just going to talk about the show canon in general here. I am probably one of the few fans who can take what we get and be okay with it. It's not my story to tell so while so many people say that it's badly written, I don't follow that way of thinking at all. Just because we would want it to go one way, and it doesn't, that shouldn't mean that the writing is bad. It just means that they wanted to tell a story in a different way. Do I like everything in canon? No, I don't. But that's what I love about fandom and roleplay and fanfiction. You can always do a fix-it.

👽 AUs

I like AUs in the sense that I can change what happened in canon (or have the Outbreak never happen at all), but as far as putting my muses in a whole other fandom or universe, I'm not a huge fan of that. Like I love The Hunger Games, but I cannot see any of my muses in that universe. So I'd rather just stay in the Apocalypse or have it be an an AU without walkers.

Caryl. It's my favorite ship of the whole show (and involves two of my muses). I love, love, love their bond. And while others scream and stomp their feet saying that we were promised a full-fledged ship by the end of the story for the two of them, I know we were never promised that. I love their bond and don't need them to kiss or be together in that way for them to be special and important to me. Plus, I can write them together in fanfic or roleplay. Or just talk about it with my friends.

💞 OC x canon

I don't mind canon x oc ships at all. I just need for the oc author to take the time and actually flesh out their muse. I've had too many approach me with a pretty face (mostly too damn young, IMO) and a name and nothing more to sell them to me and expect my muse to just fall in love with them. I don't entertain that at all. It's boring to me. The OCs that I do play with currently are all fleshed out, and the mun of the muse gives me something to work with for ever reply. The only ones that I've ever had to drop do not help further the plot at all. They expected me to do all the moving forward. And that is boring to me. I've made a lot of very good friends that are the mun of an OC that I play opposite. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

💙 crack ships

I don't really call any ship a crack ship. If it's something that I like, then it's just a ship. So ships are just ships to me. And if someone likes the idea of two characters together, then I support that and wish them all the fun and good times with their ship.

🗝 selectiveness in the RPC

I don't feel that there is anything wrong with being selective in the rpc. Not everyone will get along and be able to work well together in a writing hobby. So everyone deserves to curate their space the way the need it to be to have fun and enjoy themselves.

🧂 my least favorite part of the canon

Glenn dying. It's that simple. That's the part I hate the absolute most. They changed so much other stuff, and that could have been changed, too.

General FF7 Questions

Who is your favourite character from the FFVII setting? What do you love about them?

I love every single playable character from the main game, but my favorite is without a doubt, Cloud Strife. He's so unlike a typical RPG protagonist. He's very standoffish and rude at the beginning, but you start to grow to really like him the more you play the game. The amount of vulnerability he shows throughout the game makes him very relatable, I think. He's the party leader and he is strong when it's needed, but he can crack under pressure. I could talk all day about Cloud and what I love about him, but I actually did a dash game on my Cloud blog where I gushed about him. Favourite party (three person team) idea when playing FFVII? They don’t have to actually work mechanically (or even be possible in the game), just that you like the idea of them together as a fighting party.

When I was young, my main post Disk 2 party was an odd one. It was Cloud, Yuffie, and Red XIII. Cloud had to be in my party, Red was in my party because I loved cats and he was a giant cat, how could I not? I didn't particularly care about Yuffie, but I needed a girl to replace Aerith as the main healer.

I didn't really like Tifa at the time because I shipped Cloud and Aerith (and the LTD taught me back then that if you loved that ship you must hate Tifa. I have long since gotten over that way of thinking, but I was a young impressionable kid back then.) I don't think I have an ideal team, I just love all the characters so much. Honestly I experiment with party composition a lot when I play.

Is there a headcannon or AU you want to see more of?

AUs that change the fundamentals of a story fascinate me. My first fanfiction was a Zack lives fic where the direction the story goes in is drastically changed by the way Zack ends up living. I still find myself cringing at it sometimes, but I also still adore the fic just because it was my first. A more recent one involved Zack getting his hands on some Shinra R&D special Materia and being teleported forward in time where he meets Advent Children Cloud. Any of the fics involving changing the Nibelhiem incident somehow immediately interest me. I'm a big fan of the lore the game establishes already, so reading how fic artists take that world apart and put it back together, but differently, is exciting for me.

Do you have a favourite memory associated with FF7 (any part of compilation) or something particular you did while playing (such as what you named the characters, or how you arranged your materia) that you think is unique that you'd like to share?

I have so many. I have been playing Final Fantasy VII since I was around 9 years old (even if I probably shouldn't have been playing it at that age). I don't remember much at all of my first playthrough, but there have been very many playthroughs after that. I do remember that I always named my Chocobos after the main party. My favorite was a black one named Yuffie and I made her dance on the minimap if a song I liked came on the radio. I also remember that I started playing for the first time after we had moved houses, so I didn't have the memory card for the family's PS1, so I replayed the first mission over and over again until we found it. 

Once, when I was young I got locked out of my room while playing through the wall-market section of the game. So I got embarrassed because my family could hear the Don Corneo music while they were trying to unlock the door. Another time, I tried to fall asleep with my old CRT TV on because I thought the Chocobo farm music would help me sleep better.

Cloud always had the lightning Materia and he also always had the Chocobo Lure Materia because I thought it was funny and it made sense to young me because his hair resembled chocobo tail feathers. 

One quirk I keep to this day has to be the two name changes I make whenever I start FFVII. Aeris is changed to Aerith, of course. There's also Red XIII whose name I change to Nanaki, because I didn't understand why he would want to keep the name that Hojo gave him and not his real name. FFVII has always been a constant part of my life. I remember long car rides where I would do nothing but play FFVII on my PSP. I remember back when I only had it on PS2, setting it up in a hotel room and trying to beat Carry Armor there (I didn't and I remained stuck there for a while longer). I remember playing it on my PSP during class after I'd finished my work.

I remember back when I was starting middle school, I got a teacher into FFVII and she put a special question on one of our tests, just for me. I remember making a poetry book that had really childish drawing and poems about FFVII. I remember finally beating Crisis Core, huddled in the corner of my bunk bed, unable to keep my eyes off of what was going on, and tearing up because the ending was so sad. That isn't even the half of it, but I've gone on for so long. As you can see, I have so many fond memories of Final Fantasy VII.

Creator Questions

Who has been the most difficult character to write/draw? Who has been the easiest?

Recently I started my first Turk fic and it starred Rude. I found that his muse didn't come as easy as the others. Usually I'm good at writing most of the cast of FFVII. Cloud is the easiest for me to write because I just know him so well.

What’s your ideal creating environment? Background noise/silence, indoors/outdoors, desk/couch, etc.?

At my desk with music playing! Fun fact, I haven't had an actual office chair to sit in for years. My computer was next to my bed at my old living space and now I sit on a couch when I'm at the computer in my new one.

What’s your creative process look like? Pantser/Emotive Writer/Gardener or Planner/Structured Writer/Architect? (Do you outline or just go with the flow?) If you’re an artist, do you do a lot of sketches, or just dive right in? Backgrounds first, or the main focal point? Multiple layers or all in one?

I usually just go where the fic wants to take me. A lot of the time I do jot down an outline, especially if I know I need to do it in a set amount of time, like for the Fic exchange or Whumptober.

What do you do when you get stuck on a project?

I usually set it aside and work on something else or try and brainstorm if it's something that I need to do in a certain period of time. Oftentimes I'll do something else and let my mind wander. Most of the plot of my Turkfic I came up with at work while my mind was on autopilot.

Which of your works is the most memorable to you? I don’t necessarily mean favourite or best work, it could be the work that taught you the most through making it or that holds a special reason in its creation. Drop a link.

"To Break like Time". This fic was my first ever fic for an exchange. The spring tester for Gaia Santa, "FFVII Secret Spring" to be exact. I'm not entirely sure what came over me when I was writing this fic, but I got it done in a weekend and edited a few days after, at the very beginning of the challenge. Despite how easy of a time I had writing it, I was nervous about posting it. It's that fic where Zack wakes up in post AC times with a Shinra R&D secret materia in his hands. Not exactly everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed the challenge it gave. There are several parts I would change, but overall, I enjoy the story, even if it does get kind of weird at the end.

It’s hard for me to go through everything you’ve done to pick stuff to mention. Is there a particular piece you’d like plugged, other than the one in the last question?

The Night that Nibelheim Burned is my Gaia Santa fic from last year. I really enjoyed the way everything came together. It was a harder fic to write, but it was worth it. Kunsel was the character on the docket that I was new to playing this time. This fic is another one of those fics about what Kunsel's doing while Zack is on the run. He never gave up hope, no matter how much time went by, and I think this fic really shows that.

Community/Fandom Questions

What aspects of fandom spark the most joy for you?

Just, how creative this fandom is. I've always been a fan of a lot of the art the fandom has made, and several of the fics too. It always blows my mind just how many new ideas that someone can come up with for such an old game (as well as the entries in the compilation). It inspires me to write my own fics and create my own piece of that to share with everyone.

I love seeing long rambling theory posts about the OG and the other compilation games on my dash. I also love how silly the fandom can be sometimes :3 I also love how every character is loved by someone no matter how minor.

Is there something you'd like to see more of in the community?

Can't have enough of people being nice to each other! Spread around the art you love (with the proper credits of course), Recommend that fic you love to other people! Leave Comments on people's fics, even if you don't have much to say! Those actions have the potential to make someone's day, and I think that's amazing.

Anything you’d like to say to the community?

The LTD (Love Triangle Debate) is bogus, and for a long time, I was scared that it would be revived with the release of the Remake. I was worried there would be people fighting tooth and nail over who Cloud should be with. As far as I know, that hasn't happened yet, but maybe I'm just in a different circle.

As for me, I quit the LTD when I was a kid and started playing Crisis Core because I started shipping Cloud and Zack. You can even see it in my first fanfic where I adamantly refused to admit that I liked them together as a couple, but you can see with the way I had Cloud and Zack interact with each other (Especially in the last chapter) how much they really loved each other. 

Anyway, back to the LTD. I'm a firm believer in shipping what you want. I have a million different ships with Cloud and all of them are valid in my mind. I don't ship because I want something to be canon, I ship because I like the story that could come about from having the two be together.

a lot of little things bug me too, like how garp was just willing to work with morgan and meet koby and helmeppo (who enlisted for some reason, even before his father was arrested), and then suddenly garp just later has morgan tied up? why?

other character gripes:

it doesn't make sense for Garp to be chasing Luffy. Garp was in the East Blue at the time, we know that because he trained Koby and Helmeppo and stuff, but it doesn't make sense for him to have even really learned about Luffy yet, or cared to find him. also he's too serious. Garp is a very silly, very stupid old man lol. he's not gruff. he's supposed to be cracking up with laughter and falling asleep in every scene

i don't think any human being could be as likeable as the animated/drawn character Luffy is. his actor does fine, but i don't feel like he's Luffy, i feel like he's some other character i guess

Zoro is kinda Zoroish, but he doesn't yell at all, doesn't really get lost, doesn't do stupid shit, isn't a loser. Zoro is competent but OPLA Zoro is too competent

Nami is fine. i haven't gotten to Arlong Park Nami yet, but early Nami is fine. she's not very bright and cheery and goofy, but literally none of the characters in OPLA are, even the ones who are supposed to be

Usopp is fine i guess too. idk, he's not really a coward but like idk that's fine. he just doesn't seem very likeable to me, though Usopp is also my least favorite of the original five in the manga too, so whatever

naming the Going Merry after the dead butler lawyer guy doesn't make any sense. why would Luffy care? in the actual series, Merry built that ship, and he named it that, not Luffy. also he's alive in the manga and anime

Kuro sucks lol. that's not the OPLA's fault, Kuro is just the least interesting one piece villain. though i will say, the live action series spent way too much time in the mansion. does Luffy even go in Kaya's mansion even one time in the original? idk, but the fight with Kuro takes place on a beach in the original. it doesn't feel very Pirate Adventure Show to have so much of episodes 3 and 4 take place in some mansion

it doesn't make sense for his henchmen to be fellow butlers. also they cut out Jango lol. i guess that's okay

i get why they want to include Arlong early so that the season of television feels more like a season of television instead of disconnected episodes, but why would Arlong care about what Buggy does? how would he even know? and why? i feel like they had him be there just to have him be there. i don't think it helps the plot, i think it just seems like it would. they just wanted to introduce him just because

i don't like that Koby met Luffy again already, it will make their eventual reunion at Water 7 so much less meaningful and the change in his skill much less drastic. but i understand why they did it. I'm okay with this one, i just don't personally prefer it

did Zoro know who Kuro was in the original? tbh i don't remember. if he didn't, then this was an addition that i didn't like. but if Zoro did in the original, then that's fine. i don't remember Syrup Village very well

they cut out Chouchou and the Pet Food Store man :( like.... i get it, there's only so much time per episode, but idk. when you cut something like that out, you cut out some of the heart and soul of One Piece

sigh.... on some level, i feel like they're hitting the story beats, but cutting or changing some things that i think they shouldn't have. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they probably skip Gaimon right? Gaimon doesn't add anything to the plot, but he's just one of those things that makes you fall in love with One Piece's charm. i don't feel very charmed by the OPLA so far. it's neat, I'll see where the rest goes, but i just... idk.

this series means a lot to me. it means Everything to me. there are changes i would absolutely make if i was adapting it too, so I'm not saying i want there to be no changes. but i think it's tough to get right. I'm not sold on it yet.

the real emotional stuff really starts at Arlong Park though and I'll see how that goes. I'm apprehensive about it though.

I'm not trying to hate on the show. but I've been a one piece fan for like 18 years, give or take. so hopefully you can understand that i have thoughts on it. there's a lot i do like about what I've seen, but i don't think it's worth listing. i dont have as much to say about that

I've now seen episodes 1-4 of the One Piece Live Action series and man.... Kuro is the most boring, forgettable, corny ass villain lol. i almost wish they just cut him completely and introduced Usopp some other way. East Blue in general is honestly kind of a tough sell

What’s your least favorite pair in Equestria Girls EVER? Whether if it be crack, overrated or underrated?

You mean my straight up just NOTP? I'm not sure I've really had that many, and since the show has ended my passion for such things has faded more into 'let people have fun'

But I guess one would probably ZephyrDash? Like, Dash very clearly does not like him, both in MLP and in EQG, and he constantly catcalls her and makes her uncomfortable and she has to keep turning him down as 'nicely' as she can because he's Fluttershy's brother.

So just... Having her fall for him feels kinda icky? And like letting that bad behavior win?

But I mean, even that can be fun to read if done in a one-off "this is clearly bad" thing and not as if its true love being depicted that way. Dash can have a humiliation kink, that's not unbelievable, but Zephyr def shouldn't 'win' Rainbow Dash with his behavior in a 'true romance' sort of way.

Who else... Honestly like, MOST of who appear in EQG are either perfectly acceptable people or people with understandable flaws, even the bland background characters, so the whole "Ew no don't ship those" isn't that bad. Maybe don't do the obvious things like age gap or family related, but outside of those I could believe nearly any combination of people if it was well written enough.

Going in blind: Watching season 3 for the first time. Random thoughts.

Episode 1: I know in the original series She-Ra was the sister of He-Man so I'm curious how much of that will be carried over to this series. Not saying He-Man has to make an appearance, same as how Batman didn't need to show up in Teen Titans. That was Robin's story, not his, and similarly this is Adora's story, not Adam's. Regardless, it makes sense why Hordak was so annoyed with the baby Adora in Shadow Weaver's flashbacks. To SW, there was something different and special about the baby, but to Hordak, whom seems familiar with the world before Mara separated Etheria from the rest of the universe, including Eternia potentially, Adora is just another "First One" child like he's seen many times before. Special in comparison to those who only know Etheria.

Great clap-back from Catra to Hordak, and not entirely unfounded. It's debatable how much he actually cares about conquering Etheria. He has others leading his forces in his war yet all his focus is on his portal creation.

According to Entrapta, productivity of the Horde is up 400% ever since Catra became Hordak's 2nd in command. I wondering how much of that is Catra's direct doing? Is she genuinely just that good of a commander? Is it because she's properly delegating and Scorpia has been handling most of the load? Or is this just because it's in comparison to Shadow Weaver? Entrapta said Catra's focus on First Ones' tech has been greatly aiding them and SW definitely focused more on magic, which was an aid mostly to herself since everyone else in the Horde seems to fight only with weapons and technology. And most of what she saw of SW while she was Hordak's 2nd was her being obsessed with bringing back Adora rather than fighting the war.

Episode 2: Let's see... Hordak's easily an adult and Entrapta is...[checks google] late twenties, early thirties. Oh good, then let's sail this ship!

But yeah, that was a heck of a backstory for Hordak. This reminds me of a video by a Youtuber named Savage Books comparing the villain Steppenwolf in the theatrical and Snyder Cut versions of Justice League and how, while he still wasn't a great villain, just a small addition made him a much better villain, that being a failure in his past and the desire just to go home. And in this case, Hordak is the much better, or at least way more developed, version of that. One of many clones of Hordak Prime but having a defect that labelled him a failure and had him cast out to Etheria, a "backwards world" as he's called it before. If he can conquer Etheria, perhaps by building a portal that'll bring forward Prime's army, he believes that'll prove to Prime that he is not a failure and that he can return home to rejoin his forces. Just this bit of backstory adds SO MUCH to Hordak, including new insights on his past interactions, and keeps him from being a flat character like theatrical version Steppenwolf. His lack of tolerance for failure makes sense when he himself is trying to prove that he's not. It gives him compelling motivation to want to conquer Etheria beyond just power and greed. Not motivation you're meant to agree with but one you can still understand.

I like the story with Huntara too. It's a nice little tie-in to something Adora was talking about with Glimmer and Bow last episode. Adora defected from the horde, not because she was different but rather very much in spite being very much like every other soldier there. She wanted to believe Shadow Weaver may have at least some goodness in her too and now we have Huntara as a fellow defector who realized the evils of the Horde, even if she chose to stay out of the war entirely after.

Episode 3: I legit thought Catra stabbed the goat lady for a second.

After Scorpia asking her why don't they just stay in the wastes I'm seeing a bit of a parallel between Catra and Hordak. They've both found a place where they can be the top dog, where they can do and have basically anything they want; her with the wastes and him with the Horde. They can be happy. ...But there's still this pull they're feeling to somewhere else. Catra back to the Horde and Hordak back to Prime. Because they feel they have to prove something; prove that they're not failures. They could be happy but they can't let go.

And that scene between Adora and Catra at the end. That was such a great line read from Catra's actor. "She left me for you. Everything that's happened is because of you." I got chills.

Minor note: While I'm only judging off the Mara hologram, which didn't have color, I do think the She-Ra outfit looks better with pants than shorts like Adora's She-Ra form. I think it makes it look sleeker, if that makes any sense.

Episode 4: Catra's spiral has turned into a drill and its taking her down as far as she can go. Though something I had to a laugh a little at myself over was that my biggest "Catra, no!" reaction wasn't to her wanting to open the portal but rather when she lied to Hordak and said Entrapta let the princesses in. She was actually a positive influence on Hordak's life and Catra with one move just destroyed that relationship and all progress Hordak had been making.

I'm guessing there's going to be some kind of long-term effect from Shadow Weaver continuously siphoning off Glimmer's magic. The woman is basically a parasite and the magic she uses is very different from the kind Glimmer does. I can't believe it never occurred to me that since Shadow Weaver trained Glimmer's father there might be a connection there between the two of them later in the story. While we don't know about anything that might've happened after she left, SW clearly had enough affection for Micah still to not kill him. I could see her trying to take Glimmer on as a student later like she did him.

Episode 5: There is something kind of hilarious about it being Scorpia's jealousy of Catra and Adora's closeness that causes her to be the first one after Adora to pick up that something is off.

11 is my favorite of the Doctor Who Doctors so naturally I'm comparing all this to the crack in Amy Pond's bedroom wall. Whatever goes in gets forgotten about and basically never existed. Though does that mean Bright Moon isn't going to remember the Horde? Basically that entire place got sucked up in the collapsing reality. There shouldn't be at war anymore because their enemy literally no longer exists.

Adora and Catra had their own little Star Trek 3 moment there.

Adora: "If we don't help each other, we'll die here!"

Catra: "Perfect! Then that's the way it shall be!"

Catra's just so far down her spiral she doesn't even care about getting her own win, just so long as Adora doesn't get one, despite just minutes ago clearly loving having Adora back in her life and on her side, to the point was trying to resist remembering the old reality. Her "perfect" world was them together again but when given the chance (another of many. I love those cuts to their past woven in there) she slapped the hand away.

I'm sure I'm wrong but I'm starting to theorize Madam Razz is actually Mara and just at some point went kind of crazy and started thinking as and Mara were two different people.

Episode 6:

"You are everything I ever wanted in a son. This... This is everything I ever wanted in a life. ...But I've got responsibilities, Van. And...I have to...go now."

That was my favorite episode of JLU, where Superman is trapped in this world that isn't real but still perfect in every way, and the only way out was to give up everything he'd ever wanted, including a son he remembers watching grow up, even if it never really happened. With a similar premise, this definitely helped elevate Angela up a bit for me, whom I was kind just meh with before. I didn't dislike her but I didn't really care much for her either. This episode gave her a lot to work with though, with the heavy sacrifice she made. Not just saying behind to pull out the sword but just simply forcing herself to accept her husband is gone and not coming back. I was right that they wouldn't remember the Horde, but I definitely didn't think of the full effects of them never existing. They never exist, Bow never becomes a rebel instead of a scholar like his dads wanted. They don't exist, Micah never dies in battle against them. Glimmer gets to grow up with her father in her life. Everyone, most especially Angela, has to reject everything they would love to be real in favor of what actually is.

I'm guessing we're going to have Shadow Weaver taking advantage of this situation, trying to act like a teacher and mother-figure to Glimmer now that she's basically a orphan.

I talked before about how Catra and Hordak seem to have a parallel between them, especially regarding failure. Catra seems like she has a very hard time accepting her own failures and mistakes and thus why she more or less uses Adora as a mental scapegoat for all of it. Nothing is ever really her fault, it's Adora's, or Shadow Weaver's, or Hordak's. It makes for a great moment when Adora finally punches back, both literally and figuratively. She's not going to accept responsibility for Catra's actions anymore. She gave Catra every chance to make the right choice and she didn't, so now she has to finally live with the consequences. Heck of a glare She-Ra gave Catra at the end. Very much a "If I ever see you again..." and it certainly scared Catra, at least for a moment.

Now, someone go save Entrapta from Beast Island!

Season 3 verdict: Easily the best season thus far. I know this was technically the second half of season 2 but even in comparison to the full season 1 there was just so much that happened in this, so much that got revealed, and so, so many moments of emotion or tension. Weirdly I feel kind of disappointed that Hordak Prime is probably going to come in now and be the new big villain. I really like our Hordak's motivation and Prime seems like he might just be the generic conqueror for power that Hordak seemed like he was going to be at first. Not saying those types can't work. I love All For One from My Hero Academia and Frieza from Dragon Ball. Those guys are pure evil and selfishness, but they also have a captivating presence/charisma to them.

Naturally, since I bring her up the most out of all the characters, I'm very curious to see what happens with Catra now. She's basically nuked every positive relationship she had with anyone. Entrapta's gone, she threatened Scorpia, Hordak's not going to trust anyone including her anymore now that he thinks Entrapta's betrayed him, and Adora firmly sees her as an enemy. She has no one (those under her direct command don't count) and it's entirely her own fault.
