You can find the process of me making the hat here! Everything including the hat and the materials was purchased second hand and using things I already had (the rope, jeans, journal, neckerchief, etc) so it's a very budget cosplay but I think it turned out well! The total came to about £45, there's receipts here if you're interested <3

And that’s a wrap for Comic Con 2024! Ha, it was a lot of fun, but I really enjoyed dressing up as Mondo today! I even had a couple people recognize him! And a few others just liked the hair, one of whom asked how long it took me to get my hair like that, which tells me that at least it looks natural enough for people to mistake it as my actual hair, ha.
Overall, Comic Con was cool! On Thursday, I attended a live podcast recording for Braving the Elements, which is an Avatar the Last Airbender podcast hosted by Janet Varney and Dante Bosco (the voices of Korra and Zuko, respectively), and I actually got a trivia question right and I should (hopefully…) get an email from them soon to get a prize for answering the question right. If not… oh well. At least I’ll be featured briefly on the podcast answering trivia correctly, even though I usually suck at trivia, ha.
The rest of the days were a bit more meh, but I still had fun. I won a Pokeball ornament from a Hallmark panel, since I knew how many Squirtles were in the Squirtle Squad, aha. Which leaves my trivia score 2 for 2 at the moment.😅 I also got a free shirt and scarf for the upcoming Yakuza live action show, which was neat. I’ve never played Yakuza, but my brother has, so I was able to give him the shirt at least.
Still, while Comic Con was fun, I’m definitely glad it’s over so I can go home and clean up from my frantic cosplay creating the last several weeks, oof.
Also! On the first day I dressed at Taka, but since I was by myself I only have the one photo my dad was able to quickly take of me before he had to drive off and a quick selfie I took in the car.

did you also have that weird phase where you hated popular/overhated fem characters when you were younger (prob due to internal misogyny) like Sakura or Teruhashi? I did and now I'm completely obsessed with them and love them dearly.
no i am gay and have never been socially aware enough to be cool on purpose. yet again queerness and autism have saved me from the pitfalls of being cringe about fictional women and i can only hope the rest of you get better soon etc etc

do you have a routine or smth when you get home ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you for the question! Off camera, Wilbur went into detail about how he cried so hard he threw up after being called a Dabi cosplayer and had to finish his shift early!
[transcript below]
Anonymous Caller:
do you have a routine or smth when you get home ?
Wilbur Soot:
When I get home the first this I usually do is take this crap off my face.
I go through about two tubes of concealer per week.
I dont think it would get me fired, but a customer came in once and called me a Dabi (BNHA) cosplayer and that was genuinely worse than death.

that’s not fair, if i have to dress up, so does uvo. i want him to be a pretty princess too. do his makeup and shit.
i would say i want shalnark to dress up as well but i just know this mf act like he’s doing you huge favor by participating. make it a big deal so he can ask for something later. or he’d just pick two main characters from some hentai that he could not give less of a shit abt. all that matters is that they canonically fuck.
the Virgin Cuck Loser Uvogin who refuses to dress like a pretty princess VS the Alpha Female Shalnark who will dress both you and him up as magical girls

***THE ACOLYTE SPOILERS***
Oh my god, absolutely FEASTING on fanboy tears tonight as I repeatedly rewatch not only a sexy, well-choreographed and performed fight between an Asian man and an Asian Canadian but also one between a nonbinary person and a woman (who's even playing her character as queer), holy shit!!!
And, like, do you understand what it means to me to have an evil Asian character who's not a racist caricature??? Like yeah, in Star Wars, but also in Western media in general! Also very important to me is that he's ACTUALLY HOT. Asian men never get to be hot on screen in Western media, especially Asian diaspora folks. It's not only shitty in a racist way but also a travesty for hot people enjoyers such as myself!! (And I mean like one of the few times they attempted to give it somewhat of a shot, the role went to a former incel ffs.)
This is also important because Qimir getting to be hot means people are thirsting after him!!! That's an important part of representation people don't talk about enough. Just reading posts and chats where people are seeing him as physically attractive and salivating over his body makes me so emotional??
The casting director, the costumers, and the hair and makeup teams on this production, my god. First Mother Aniseya and now Qimir. They're just casually dropping some of the hottest characters in Star Wars into this show, bless.

pssst… psssssstttt…… hey artists..
you can just. draw a character wearing an outfit that you own. you could just do that, if you wanted. go ahead, pretend they borrowed it after a cutesy sleepover, or maybe a NOT SO CUTESY sleepover, if you’re one of THOSE people (😳 love all my “those people” out there🫶)
better yet! draw them in it and pretend they gave it to you!!! “what? nooo, this isn’t from Walmart! this is from- GILLION TIDESTRIDER, CHAMPION OF THE UNDERSEA, HERO OF THE DEEP, THE CHOSEN ONE, IN NEED OF A DAD, FRIEND OF PRETZEL, EATER OF- (various titles) and NO I did not buy it oversized, it’s just big on me because it belonged to a BEAUTIFUL BUFF BOY ❤️”
things could be done with this, trust

Can we talk about The Dying Swan moment in Coda? As someone who was once a very serious ballerina, I need to talk about the Dying Swan. Here's your context --
CHAKOTAY: Harry's clarinet solo was okay. I could have done without Tuvok's reading of Vulcan poetry. But the highlight of the evening was definitely Kathryn Janeway portraying the Dying Swan. JANEWAY: I learned that dance when I was six years old. I assure you, it was the hit of the Beginning Ballet class.
Have you seen The Dying Swan? It is dramatic.
Here, take a minute:
youtube
First of all, this dance is much too advanced for a six-year-old, even if they’re doing it in demi pointe. (Six-year-olds emphatically should not be in pointe shoes btw.) The dance is almost entirely bourees and arm movements done to very subtle musical cues, not the foundational ballet moves typically taught in Beginning Ballet.
This is a very vulnerable, dramatic dance that is effective because of its subtleties. The performer would need to embody that vulnerability in some way for a convincing performance. It's short, but it's a solo piece -- all eyes on you. I mean, it was choreographed for a prima ballerina, BUT THAT'S NOT MY POINT
Can you imagine our unflappable Captain Janeway willingly getting in front of her crew to do this ballet? I get that it’s thematically relevant to the plot of Coda, but since Janeway is only vulnerable in front of her crew when it means putting herself in harm’s way, it seems like a wild decision. She tends to hold herself apart from her crew, maintaining the professional distance of the captain. Further, when she does any creative pursuit, it is almost always in private, since her sister was the artist in the family and she was the scientist. As a captain, she commands Voyager in a much different way than she would as a dancer with this piece. I'm not saying she never shows vulnerability because she definitely does, but not necessarily in this way. Then when she talks about it with Chakotay, she just casually brushes it off with a laugh like no big deal.
There’s also the question of costume – would she have gone full tutu? Done it in her Starfleet uniform? An impeccable yet flow-y white suit? She does get into costume and command a performance in Bride of Chaotica!, but Coda is still kind of early days for our captain. Arachnia aligns more with what we know about Janeway's character.
Granted, it is Chakotay laying down these complements about her dancing ability and he is clearly biased. To be fair, Neelix does too before they leave in the shuttle. If she did this dance and performed it poorly or amazingly, I feel like the crew would look at her a bit differently afterwards.
Canonically she did The Dying Swan, but I certainly have trouble picturing it happening.

"guys mha is actually a decent show but the FANDOM ruins it–" brooo shut the fuck up, have you never heard about curating your own fandom spaces. EVERY fandom has their weird ppl, but every fandom ALSO has people who interact with the media the same way you want to. you don't need to write 50 disclaimers before saying you like a show, and you don't need to hate on a show just because there's some weird people in the fandom. you guys are sounding real immature rn
