Hey! Does anyone know what the lyric changes are in the UK Newsies version of Once and For All? 

The line in the broadway version is:

Joe, you can stop counting sheep We're gonna sing ya to sleep You've got your thugs with their sticks and their slugs Yeah! But we got a promise to keep!

But in the UK version ‘You've got your thugs with their sticks and their slugs Yeah! But we got a promise to keep!’ is different and I can’t tell what they say.

If anyone can help it would be so appreciated!!

listening to “once and for all” from newsies on full volume with my headphones is not enough, I need it to utterly consume and ruin me and also I need a gun.

rewatching livesies again! except it’s only the parts with Davey and I pause every 5 seconds whenever he does anything just bc he consumes my every waking thought

i think when jack crutchie and race are all together in one room everyone else in the room instantly has a headache because they are So Annoying.

I know that the stage version of once and for all is really popular but personally I really dislike the lyrics changes and the change in tone

I think the original version of the song really did well in emphasizing the comradery among the newsies and the other child workers, the lyrics are all about justice and coming together to right wrongs, not unlike seize the day

but then the musical made the song feel more about revenge, focusing less on the "children's crusade", it feels more militant in a way and I just don't like it

plus, by the conclusion of the real 1899 strike the newsboys had stopped "soaking the scabs" entirely and won because they had the public's support, not because they barged into Pulitzer's office with an army and punched his lights out

I always think that when people say the broadway lyrics are better than the 92sies lyrics they must be forgetting that line in once and for all, 'better to die than to crawl'. What genius decided that a line with that much visceral emotion somehow wasn't good enough for the stage?
