the biggest thing i wish that would stop in trans discourse is white trans people on any and literally all sides putting themselves as authority on transness and gender issues.

it feels like y'all go through such a culture shock when you come out and face oppression, and yet there have been people facing oppression since before they left the womb. y'all also so quickly try to distance yourselves from whiteness, it's the whole "i'm a minor and nonbinary and neurodivergent and i have blue hair" but honestly it doesn't even matter your age. because the separation from whiteness seems to be such a main goal for you that you forget other trans people have been oppressed on the intersection of race and gender and that is a genuinely harder struggle than you will imagine.

but like yeah keep talking out of your ass, sure that won't hurt people in the long run.

that’s the thing with conservatives and other breeds of fash. you can’t get to them with civility. if you go on and on (with legitimate concerns, let it be said) about their human rights violations, their power-hungry scapegoating of minorities, their warmongering and hate-stirring, their ceaseless desire for control, they’ll keep taking it as a compliment. they LOVE being told that they’re successful oppressors. it means they’re doing their job right, it means they’re powerful, they’re strong and they’re winning. it’ll fall on deaf ears

that’s why the “weird” line of attack sent them into a tailspin. it’s so surface-level, so painfully middle-school-bully, targeting some kind of primal insecurity that everyone possesses, but nobody more than a conformist. they can deal with being called dangerous, accused of being a threat to democracy — that’s what they crave to hear, a testament to their power. but weird? that’s the worst possible insult — comparing them to us.

when you’ve been “weird” for your entire conscious memory, allegations of abnormality slide off your skin like water. if you call a queer man a fag, he’ll laugh in your face. he’ll take it in stride and get it tattooed. but call a man who makes his masculinity the focal point of his existence a fag — that stings. for the very same reason, that fashion critique guy on twitter riles right wingers up so much: they base their sense of self-esteem on the absolute conviction that their values, behaviours and aesthetics are correct, that anything else is a deviation. they pride themselves on being “straight” in all senses of the word: everyone else is a “pervert”, i.e. twisted and bent. so getting told “um, actually, your shoes are a size too big and your shirt doesn’t fit” shatters their resolve.

spot a rightoid in the wild? don’t call him an authoritarian misogynist. tell him instead that his wife left him for a woman and took the kids. spread a rumour about him fucking a couch. remind him that his nieces and nephews collectively know him as the “creepy uncle” and avoid him at family gatherings. find a photo of lookalike wearing drag and tag him in it.

It's crazy to me cause like. I have NEVER once in my life seen someone say those things though with the amt of people talking about it I'm rather inclined to believe them...... but I fucking hate that edgelord attitude. And I probably hate THEIR attitude too, which is the real problem here.

Like no, I don't think anyone should be telling you whether you are or aren't a horror fan, that's kinda your thing to decide at the end of the day, and berating someone for having boundaries is always catastrophic levels of disrespectful. I think anyone with a brain would be able to agree on those.

But I also think it's incredibly shitty of you to say that everyone who enjoys certain movies is "a psychopath", sick in the head, a potential serial killer, a huge walking red flag, and so on and so forth. I mean I don't know if you've aware of this, but if you're a horror fan, you've probably got a couple movies in your top 10 that have other people walking out the room and sleeping with the lights on all night. That's kinda the point here.

It's extremely hypocritical to talk about how annoying it is to be told you're not a "real" horror fan because of your personal taste, and then turn around and start pushing films out of the genre because they don't fit YOUR idea of what "real" horror is. You see what I'm getting at ???

To say there should be an entirely separate category for torture porn (read: any mildly gory film you don't approve of) is to say a film made you so uncomfortable you don't wanna see it anywhere near the films you consider "normal".

You're uncomfortable and you're disgusted, that's fair, but the problem here is you want to push it so far away from you (and your identity as a horror fan) that you end up slamming the door in the face of other people who love horror just as much as you do.

If someone forces you or tries to force you to watch ANY horror movie, that's a problem with them as a human being, not with the films they watch. ESPECIALLY if they don't warn you about anything that might upset you beforehand.

I don't know, I kinda lost the plot because this is always really upsetting to me. I don't want everyone to enjoy the same things I do, because that's unreasonable. I just want to feel respected and not like people are gonna peg me as someone to be wary of based on the movies I watch.

btw bad isn't something you are it's something you do. different people have different capacities for evil depending on their environments and influences but no one is born predestined to do bad and no one is really truly a "bad person" because bad people, conceptually, don't exist. that's some puritan ass shit from the whole "sinners/saints" schtick and you'll all be better off if you cleanse it from your mind and learn to instead think of people as a) positive/negative agents in their own and others' lives, b) products of their environments and c) having the capacity for change and growth. sometimes we support and care about characters because they are a positive agent in others' lives, sometimes we sympathize with their poor situation and environment, and sometimes we see they have the capacity to change and grow. all of these are valid and none of them nullify the bad they've done nor vice versa. there's no moral high ground in a) claiming your favorite "bad person" character actually did no wrong (they definitely did and that's fine), or b) claiming your least favorite "bad person" character should be condemned biblical-style by the audience for their moral complexity.
