Perfectly Normal Regeneration Side Effects No One Warned You About

A lot of people ask about the process of regeneration and what happens when it goes drastically wrong—failed forms, limb loss, identity fractures, etc.

But curiously, no one's ever asked about what could be considered perfectly normal side effects. Because everyone knows about the usuals of amnesia, coma etc., but what about some of the other, more weird ones? The kinds of things that don't raise an eyebrow on Gallifrey, but would absolutely send a human reeling?

These side effects are harmless and temporary, just a display of your Time Lord undergoing the proper due process.

✨ 1. The Glow Phase

Yes, that's meant to be glowing. Probably.

In the hours after regeneration, Gallifreyans are flooded with artron and lindos energy—both highly reactive and bioactive. Which raises an important (and slightly gross) question: do bodily fluids glow?

Yes. Probably.

Urine and stools may become unusually orange, iridescent, or faintly luminescent.

Vomit can also glow, especially if expelled rapidly.

Sweat, tears, and saliva may shimmer subtly in certain lighting conditions.

This typically lasts up to 15 hours post-regeneration and is harmless (if unsettling).

🌈 2. Post-Regeneration Sensory Overload

Everything feels wrong.

Every regenerated body builds a new sensory framework from scratch. Since no two incarnations process input the same way, early hours can include:

Synaptic overlap – senses miswire or fuse (e.g., tasting colours)

Hypersensitivity – breathing hurts, red is too bright, socks feel itchy

Delayed perception – reality may arrive half a second late and feel emotionally charged

This usually resolves in 1–3 days.

🦷 3. That Doesn't Belong There

Your body's trying its best.

Regeneration reconstructs every cell in your body based on your biomorphic template and biodata—but it's not an exact science.

🪞 4. Seeing Your Past Self in the Mirror

Also normal. No need to scream.

Immediately post-regeneration, psychic residue from the previous form may sometimes interfere with visual self-perception. The reflection may temporarily appear as:

Your previous self

A future version of your current self

Someone you've never seen but somehow recognise

This is probably due to residual biodata echoes, especially in Time Lords with strong memory cohesion or traumatic deaths.

It likely is intermittent and fades in under a week.

🧍 5. Post-Regenerative Dyspraxia

Nothing is where it used to be.

Just imagine you wake up one morning with different-length limbs, larger hands, and much-smaller feet, but your brain is still calibrated for the old model.

This disconnect results in a lot of clumsiness. Gallifreyan neuroplasticity is fast, so most regain full coordination within a few days. Until then, stairs are not recommended, and cups with handles may become an issue.

🏫 So...

Regeneration is miraculous. It's elegant. It's biological poetry. But it's also utter nonsense for a while, and no one talks about it.

«Where's [Name]?» a question Billy shouldn't have asked Stu—he looked like a deer caught in the headlights, wide eyed and a flicker of realisation and panicky fear in them.

«Stu. Where is [Name]?» Billy repeated again, harsher this time, demanding even. Giving his boyfriend a expectantly look, brow raised, a sort of glare it was—the kind of which a parent would give, when they aren't being amused and mildly disappointed with what their child did.

Stu feels like this metaphorical child. His hands getting clammy, eyes darting around from side to side, everywhere and anywhere—even focusing on those, in his humble opinion, absolutely ugly paintings which hung on the walls alongside the staircase, just so he doesn't have to look at Billy and getting this....this look of disappointment from him. Though when Stu accidentally did, he winced visibly.

Now, this was a situation—one of the rare occasional ones—where Billy, who's normally an composed person, was feeling restless and a tiny amount of fear spiking up in him.

This wasn't one of Stu's many parties, where they have established unofficial rules to what was allowed—in drugs and alcoholic beverages wise and where they have control over everything—this was the party of an stranger, a person Sidney (or had it been Tatum or another one of their friends?) was acquainted with, from over next town.

A party, where the two couldn't keep a proper watch over you. Couldn't keep you out of harms way—and it wasn't like, that you neither could hold your own or defend yourself in dire times of need. You're perfectly capable of such things. But, for them, you're their precious little boy—which they just, if they could, would love to lock up and keep safe.

And Stu had one fucking job this night, keeping you near him. Yet in the end, Stu had failed in it, managed to lose you in this crowd.

Billy was craning his neck, straining his muscles and he even could feel a pull at it. Trying to find you in that cramped mass of human strangers. Stu, standing behind Billy on the staircase, being a lot taller then his friend, swirled his head from right to left. He too trying to spot you, your mop of (h/c) hair or the clothes you are wearing. No avail.

An underlaying panic, deep buried in their pits of stomach, sets itself free. Rising up and giving them side stabs. Leaving goosebumps on their skin and a tingle down their spines.

«Fine. We're going search for him together. [Name] can't be that far.» a string of cruses left Billy's mouth afterwards.

You swayed from side to side, trying to find your way back to the house as you wandered through the backyard, a rather big one with lots greenery, some trees and a stony path. You hoped at least that you were still in the backyard, sight a bit too blurry to tell what all the difference blobs are.

A hiccup here and there left your mouth. Swallowing your own salvia and taking another sip from your cup, drowning the last rest. Wanting the sandy dryness to get away.

A few minutes later and your mouth was dry again. You drunk enough to have your body being hydrated. More limo and soft drink than alcoholic beverages, besides a few shots and one or two cups of beer.

So getting a dry mouth within seconds was a bit weird, so you thought. Did you always had such a excessive sweating? And since when was the night so warm?

You stopped your walking, just standing there wherever that was, because it sure doesn't look like a backyard anymore (and perhaps it never has.)

Taking one step forward, still wanting to continue your way back and in the next moment of seconds, you felt a wave of air around you. Falling and your face hits the asphalt.

The small shock shook your mind awake form the haze. Turning onto your side, you tried to sit up. Needing a few tries before you accomplished it. The few glass shards, which laid around, digging into your palms—leaving bloody cuts.

Huh, funny, the blurry dots which comes flying nearer and nearer, reminded you a bit of your boyfriends—the colours seemed to fit the dots so well.

You snorted loudly at this thought, falling onto your side again. Giggles left your mouth, waving a hand at your dot boyfriends. Dot boyfriends. Another snort.

It had taken some time till Billy and Stu had found you. First they searched inside the house, checked every room—interrupting a few people by two things; sex and taking a piss. Then they took a look around the backyard and pool area, but nothing.

A few fleeting thoughts, what if imagines came to their minds. Non of them pleasant at all. You could have been kidnapped or you going back all on your own or you even going with someone else.

They came to the same conclusion. You're wandering somewhere on the streets around and on their way out of the house—passing through the mass crowd, bumping shoulders—Billy sneered at Sidney when she gave them a confused questionably glance.

If it weren't for Sidney, this wouldn't even be happening. Not Stu was at fault.

All of this was her fucking fault.

Billy thanked whatever god might be existing above there. They didn't had to ventured through the streets for too long, till they saw you sitting in the middle of the street.

Stu helped you sit upright again, keeping his hands on your shoulders to give you hold.

Billy crouched down in front of you, holding your face into his hands. Scraping the small bits of shards away and drawing circles with his thumbs over your cheeks. You leaned into his touch—a contrast to your warm skin.

«....It's so warm....» you mumbled, blinking owlish at Billy, eyes dropping every so often.

«What happen [Name]?»

Billy watched patiently how you opened your mouth, trying to form words but all it came out was a jumble of unintelligible sounds.

Billy was concerned, even if you were drunk—fully intoxicated—you would still be able to say intelligible words.

Though you didn't look too good either; laboured shallowed breaths, ghostly pale, sweat trickling down your skin, shivering—besides you complaining about the chilly night being way too hot—pupils dilating and your nonchalantly about the cuts.

Noticing the empty cup next to you, Billy had a hunch and hoped he was wrong. The bit of leftover drink in the cup, a slight purple colour with a bitter smell, had proving his hunch correct. Drugs.

Billy narrowed his eyes, pursing his lips into a line. He crushed the cup in his hand, throwing it away. Whoever fucker had done this, they would pay this. Dying a long and painful death.

«You carry him Stu, though lets find the fucker first.»

«Bills, let us go home. [Nickname] needs to sleep and getting the drugs out his system» Stu whines a bit, adjusting his hold on your thighs again to carry you more evenly on his back. All the while you nuzzling your nose into the crook of his neck, moaning out complains—with a few giggles and in between incoherently talking of something—how damn hot it was, how thirsty you are and that you want some cuddles.

Stu, to keep you delighted and from falling asleep, nodded and agreed along to whatever you were saying. Giving you seriously meant answers.

Billy let go of Ben's—the asshole who drugged not only you, but also Kelly—shirt collar, leaving him leaning against the wall. Ben snickers, smirking at Billy, practically a invitation of dare.

«Aww, c'mon a bit of drugs hasn't harmed anyone. Don't get yer panties in a twist. Pretty boy is taking well, isn't he?»

A wave of anger took over Billy's face, contouring into a grimace of furiousness. Without wasting another second, Billy punched him across the face. Breaking Bens nose in process, a satisfying crack being heard.

Bill sat on the edge of the bed, caressing your cheek, swatting away Stu's hand from himself for a moment. Deciding after all in the end, to lay down next to you too.

Ben would pay for this, Billy having planning the perfect death for him.

Though this could wait for a bit later, after all you're their first priority.

pt 19 -

Thanksgiving break had finally arrived, and I couldn’t pack my bags fast enough. The thought of heading home to spend time with my dad filled me with so much excitement that I barely noticed Chris and Matt walk in the dorm.

“Jesus fucking christ.” Chris said, pointing to the pile I’d stacked near the door.

“Yeah, no shit,” Matt added, leaning against his bed. “Are you moving home permanently?”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m just prepared, okay? Unlike you guys. What are you taking home, one hoodie and a pair of sweatpants?”

Chris grinned. “Pretty much, yeah.”

I couldn’t wait to spend uninterrupted time with my dad, cooking, watching football, and enjoying the comfort of home.

“Actually,” Matt said, breaking my train of thought, “since we’re all gonna be home, we should film a car video the day after Thanksgiving. Nick got home this morning.”

Chris perked up. “Yeah, it was really fun when you did the Q&A with us. Nick would kill us if we didn’t invite you.”

I smiled at the idea. “I’m in. But only if I get shotgun.”

“Absolutely the fuck not,” Chris said quickly, shaking his head. “The fans know that's my seat.”

“Unbelievable,” I teased, throwing a hoodie into my bag.

Chris chuckled. “Snacks are on us, though.”

I slung my bag over my shoulder, glancing at both of them. “Fine. Friday it is. Don’t let me down on the snacks.” Matt and Chris each grabbed one of my bags and their own.

The boys had grown even more in the past weeks on youtube, they are at around two hundred thousand subscribers. I haven't been in a video since the q&a.

As we all headed out of the dorm to load up our cars, Matt glanced over. “Bet you’re excited to see your dad, huh?”

“More than anything,” I said with a soft smile.

Chris grinned. “Enjoy it while it lasts. You're free from us until Friday.”

I laughed, waving them off as I got into my car. Heading home to my dad.

As soon as I pulled into the driveway of my childhood home, a wave of relief washed over me. The house looked the same as it always did. I barely had the car in park before my dad stepped out onto the porch, his arms wide open.

“Honey!” he called, his voice filled with excitement.

“Dad!” I shouted back, rushing up the steps and into his embrace. His hugs always made everything else fade away, no matter how stressful life had been.

“You’re home,” he said, holding me tight for an extra second before pulling back to look at me. “How’s my girl?”

“Better now,” I said honestly. “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too, kiddo.” He grabbed my bags from the car, insisting I didn’t have to lift a finger, and brought them inside.

Once my bags were dropped in my room, my dad clapped his hands together. “So, what do you say we go out for dinner tonight? My treat. Anywhere you want.”

I grinned. “How about… Kingsleys?”

“You read my mind,” he said with a wink.

“Good, lets go,” I said, already grabbing my coat.

The waitress recognized us immediately and greeted us like old friends. We slid into a booth near the window, and my dad wasted no time ordering a coffee while I looked over the menu.

“So,” he started, leaning back in the booth. “What’s new? How’s school?”

“It’s… been a lot,” I admitted, stirring my water with a straw. “But good. Mostly good.”

He gave me a knowing look. “Mostly?”

I hesitated, not wanting to dive into the bad that had been my life lately. “You know, just the usual. Classes, making friends, figuring it all out.”

He nodded, but I could tell he wasn’t buying it entirely, but he knew if I wanted to tell him I would “Well, you’re strong. You’ll figure it out. You always do.”

“Thanks, Dad.”

When the food came, we both dove in, chatting between bites. He told me about work, his recent golf games, and a new neighbor who’d moved in down the street. I told him about my classes—leaving out all the drama.

By the time we left the diner, I felt lighter. Being with my dad always had that effect on me. As we walked to the car, he draped an arm around my shoulders.

“I’m proud of you, honey,” he said softly.

That one sentence made the entire trip home worth it.

“Thanks, Dad. I’m proud of you too.”

The ride home was filled with music and easy conversation. Once we got back, we settled into the living room,

We were lounging on the couch in the living room. My dad had just hit play on one of his favorite old Westerns when his phone buzzed on the side table. He leaned over to grab it, squinting at the screen.

“Who’s texting you this late?” I teased, stretching my legs out across the couch.

He chuckled. “It’s Jimmy.”

At the mention of Matt, Chris, and Nick’s dad, I sat up a little straighter. “What’s he saying?”

My dad raised an eyebrow as he read the message. “Apparently, Matt and Chris have been talking about you. They want us to come to their big Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.”

My heart skipped a beat. “Wait, what? Why?”

“I don’t know, honey,” he said, holding up his phone like I could read the screen from across the room. “But Jimmy says they’ve been going on about you and he and Mary Lou wanted to invite us.”

I frowned, conflicted. After everything that had happened, the idea of sitting at a dinner table with Matt and Chris felt… complicated. Sure the past month between us has been fine but bringing family into it was a whole different thing.

My dad must’ve seen the hesitation on my face because he set his phone down and gave me a reassuring look. “We don’t have to go if you don’t want to. It’s your call, honey.”

I bit my lip, my mind racing. “I dont know”

He nodded, respecting my boundaries like he always did. “Well, think about it. Might be fun. And you know how much I love Thanksgiving food.”

I laughed softly. “You really can’t resist a good turkey, huh?”

“Guilty as charged,” he said with a grin.

“I’ll let you know in the morning,” I finally said.

I watched my dad as he set his phone down, a somewhat upset look on his face. It hit me then, how long it had been since we’d shared a Thanksgiving dinner with anyone besides each other. Not since my mom left. The idea of being around a big family again made my heart ache a little, but it also made me happy thinking about my dad having people around him.

“You know what?” I said, sitting up. “Let’s do it.”

His eyebrows shot up in happiness. “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” I nodded firmly, a small smile tugging at my lips. “It’ll be fun. We haven’t done anything like this in forever. And it’s not just for me, it’ll be good for you too.”

He chuckled, a deep, warm sound that made me smile even wider. “Honey, you don’t have to worry about me.”

“I’m not worrying,” I said quickly, shaking my head. “I just… I think we should go. Jimmy’s always been good to you, It’s nice. Feels like the right thing to do.”

He tilted his head, studying me for a moment before giving a slow nod. “Alright then. We’ll go.”

I grinned “You better be ready to charm the room tomorrow. I’m not letting you sit in the corner like an antisocial weirdo.”

He laughed again, his face lighting up in a way I hadn’t seen in a long time. “No promises”

The next morning, the house was filled with a calm buzz of preparation. I stood in front of my small vanity, eyeing the outfit I had carefully picked out the night before. A loose white sweater paired with a tight black skirt that laid neatly on the bed, along with black sheer tights, white socks, and my favorite pair of black Converse. Simple but put together.

I slipped on the skirt, smoothing it down over the tights before tugging the sweater over my head. I grabbed my curling iron and added loose waves to my hair, the curls falling softly over my shoulders. I fluffed them out a bit for volume before stepping back to examine the final result in the mirror.

As I laced up my Converse, my dad knocked lightly on my door and peeked his head in. “You ready, honey?”

“Just about,” I said, standing up and grabbing my phone. “How do I look?”

He gave me a once-over and smiled warmly. “Beautiful. They’ll be lucky to have you there.”

I rolled my eyes playfully but couldn’t hide the grin spreading across my face. “Thanks, Dad. Let’s go before you get sentimental.”

We grabbed our coats and headed out the door, the crisp November air biting at my cheeks as we climbed into the car. I felt a mix of nerves and excitement fluttering in my stomach as we drove to the Sturniolo house.

Once we got to their house my dad knocked on the door. My dad and Jimmy shared a handshake and a chuckle, their longtime bond evident in the way they exchanged knowing looks.

“Y/N, it’s so good to see you,” Jimmy said warmly as he greeted me with a big hug, his presence welcoming. “You’ve grown up so fast, Last time I really saw you was in diapers.” He said.

My dad chuckled and gave me a playful nudge. “It’s true. She’s a little too grown up for my liking.”

Jimmy laughed heartily and patted my dad on the back. “I get it, buddy. But she’s doing well, right?”

“She is,” my dad replied, his voice filled with pride. “She’s been keeping busy with school. It’s nice to finally have some time to relax and visit.”

Mary Lou came over, greeting us both with her characteristic warmth. “Y/N, you look wonderful!,” she said, turning to my father with a smile. “It’s so great to finally see you again!”

“Thank you for having us,” my dad replied, shaking her hand. “It means a lot. Y/N and I could use a good Thanksgiving this year.”

“I’m just happy we could make it happen,” Mary Lou said, beaming. “And we’re glad you could join us.”

As I followed my dad inside, I could see how at ease he was in this familiar environment. It was clear that Jimmy and my dad had a special, long-lasting friendship. They went to school together and worked together right out of graduation.

After some more warm greetings, Jimmy called the boys upstairs. “Boys grab Justin and bring him downstairs. Dinner’s almost ready!”

I caught sight of Justin walking down the stairs, and we exchanged a quick hug. “Long time, no see,” he said with a grin. “How’s school?”

“Busy, but good.” I replied.

We made our way to the dining room, where the table was set beautifully. As we sat down, Matt made his way sitting next to me and nudged me with his shoulder.

“Sorry, Chris and Nick’s idea” he whispered while everyone passed around food.

“Just admit you missed seeing me and couldn't wait till friday” I winked and passed him the rolls.

“You wish, sweetheart” I rolled my eyes at him and turned to listen to everyone's small talk and join in on some conversations.

After dinner, the boys invited me upstairs to hang out for a bit. We all settled into their room, laughing and chatting about everything from school to random things that had happened throughout the week.

“Y/N, you ready to head out?” My dad yelled up the stairs, sounding a little tired but still upbeat.

I stood up, stretching. “Yeah, I’ll be down in a second!” I called back, feeling a little reluctant to leave but knowing I should head home.

As I started to head downstairs, Matt followed me. When we reached the bottom, my dad was waiting in the living room, ready to go.

He smiled at me, his hands in his pockets. “Alright, honey, let’s get going. It’s been a long day.”

Matt, who had been hovering near the doorway, spoke up. “Hey, if you want to stay longer, I can drive her home later,” he said casually, glancing between my dad and me.

I hesitated, looking between the two of them. “Thanks, Matt, but I think I’ll go with my dad tonight,” I said, offering a small smile.

Before I could head for the door, my dad raised a hand. “You know what? Why don’t you stay? I’ll head out. You're young, stay and have fun,” he said, a warm smile on his face. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry about me.”

I glanced back at Matt, who was looking at me with a raised brow. “You sure?” I asked my dad.

“Yeah, absolutely,” my dad assured me. “Have a good time, and I’ll get going. I want you to enjoy yourself.”

I looked at Matt again, and he gave me a reassuring nod. “You don’t have to worry about getting home, Y/N. I’ve got you covered whenever you’re ready to head back,” he said with a small grin.

With a deep breath, I looked at my dad and smiled. “Okay, I’ll stay,” I said, feeling a little bad I wasn't going home with him.

“Sounds good,” my dad said with a chuckle, heading toward the door. “Enjoy yourselves, both of you.”

I gave him a hug and waved him off before turning back to Matt “You want me so bad, its insane”

Matt laughed “You know I do, I'm just waiting on you”

“Maybe you'll get lucky tonight” I winked at him before running past him up the stairs.

Around 10 PM, I finally decided it was time to head home. I had stayed later than I intended, but it had been a good night. I turned to Matt, who was talking to the guys. “I think I’m ready to go now,” I said, slipping my coat on. I gave Nick, Chris and Justin a quick hug.

He looked up and smiled, standing up. “Alright, let’s head out.” We made our way to the door, Matt grabbing his coat, and walked outside to his car.

The drive was easy and relaxed, just the two of us talking about random things. We discussed what we needed for the dorm. It was a comfortable silence in between the chatter.

When we finally pulled up to my house, I turned to Matt and smiled, “Thanks for bringing me home,” I said, feeling a warmth in my chest. “I had a really good time.”

He looked over at me, the car engine still idling, and for a moment, there was a long pause. His eyes met mine, and I could feel the tension building between us. Without really thinking about it, I leaned over and kissed him, my lips pressing against his with a softness that quickly turned into something more.

The kiss deepened as Matt grabbed my face, pulling me closer, and I felt my heart race. When we finally pulled apart, breathless, he leaned back slightly, his eyes dark with something I couldn’t quite place. “I’ve been waiting for you to do that for weeks now,” he murmured, his voice low and full of desire.

I smiled at him, my lips tingling from the kiss. “Well, I guess it’s about time then,” I said softly, running my hand over his cheek.

I paused for a second, feeling a spark of boldness. “You wanna come inside? Maybe stay the night?” I asked, my heart pounding, unsure of what he might say.

Matt hesitated, looking at me for a moment, before his lips curled into a smirk. “Are you sure? You know I’m not gonna leave after that,” he teased,

“Yeah, I’m sure,” I said, my voice quieter now. “I want you to stay.”

He leaned over and kissed me again, this time with even more urgency, and I felt a rush of excitement. “Alright, I’m in,”

We both got out of the car, and I led him inside, “Dad, is it ok if Matt stays the night? We want to just watch a movie and chill in my room?” I asked my dad who was sitting on the couch watching his own movie.

“Sure, Matt. Watch yourself in this house.” I rolled my eyes knowing my dad fully didn't care.

“Of course sir” I grabbed Matt's hand dragging him towards the stairs excited to have him to myself for the night.

In chapter 0.8 which is a one-shot, Noel-chan uses Absolute Dragon Shatter in Front London, but in chapter 1, numbered Pipers spells known as "Magic" made an appearance. As a premise, I believe that Magic and Absolute Dragon Shatter are alike (as they both use Witch Kits), I suspect that the reason why Noel-chan adopted this unnumbered attack method in Front London may be due to one of the following two points:

1. Magic is an attack method that utilizes the medium of Witch Kits to feed on a special energy similar to Reishi which exists only in Reverse London, on the other hand, Absolute Dragon Shatter is an attack method made for Front London, which does not require this special Reishi.

2. Given that it was an attack against a Disguiser Dragon who had remained hidden for ten odd years, Absolute Dragon Shatter was used as an arcane means and is considered the highest order of Magic or even a method surpassing Magic itself.

I'm really interested about the relationship between Magic and Absolute Dragon Shatter, will it be revealed within the story in the future!?

However, does this mean that Zangetsu did not return to two swords due to the fact that after activating Bankai, Ichigo's Hollow and Quincy powers were absorbed by Yhwach, and that his Bankai was damaged among other factors? Or is it that it's possible for Ichigo to wield both the dual swords and the single sword if he so desires?

It may just be game original staging to begin with, but I was intrigued.

The correct form of a Zanpakutō is one that has a sheath, and there are only two swords without one: Sayafushi and Zangetsu. What fixed Zangetsu into its "correct form" is the dual swords state, and in Bankai Zangetsu is placed back in its sheath, what emerged after that sheath was shattered is the "True Zangetsu". The shattered sheath was absorbed by Ichigo, so I think he is also able to return to dual blades if he wants to, but I suppose that depends on Ichigo himself.

Have you guys seen Pablo in a suit!!?? Dio mio!!

Pablo had a fitting today with Hermes and he asked you to come with him since you had a date planned afterwards. You of course agreed excited to see your man in all the handsome outfits they chose for him.

You also knew he was very nervous around cameras and wanted you there for support (although he would never admit to it!!!). You got dressed for your date fixing your makeup as Pablo walked in to check if you're ready to go.

"Dios mio princesa..que linda. Give me a spin porf!!" he said practically drooling on your dress and you giggled nodding your head and twirling around to give him a full view which he clearly enjoyed from the smirk on his face.

"Don't even think about it Gavira!! We can't be late to your fitting!" you said poking his nose and he groaned nodding his head and pulling you close to give you a quick kiss before you two left.

When you arrived, Pablo politely greeted everyone helping you to the place where other girlfriends were before he could leave and join his teammates and film the fitting.

"Are you sure you're not cold amor? I can give you my sweater since I'll be changing anyways??" he asks seeing goosebumps on your skin which he rubbed and you smiled at how observant and sweet he always was with you.

"Un poquito.." you pout and he smiled kissing your lips and taking off his sweater before leaving to meet his teammates and you smirked at his flexed back muscles. That's your man!!

You wore his sweater on top of your dress having to roll the sleeves because they were too long but that's what he loved when you wore his clothes..you always looked so tiny!!

"Amor venga!" you heard Pablo call after a few minutes and you jumped to your feet as his sweater fell all the way to your knees as you walked towards him.

"We need a little girlfriend advice? Tie or bow??" fitter asked and you were stunned seeing Pablo standing there in a black suit looked ungodly beautiful.

"Wait for her to stop drooling first!" Pedri teased making you blush and Pablo hit his shoulder while reaching for your hand and pulling you closer to him.

"Which one princesa, huh?" he asked raising up your chin giving you a reassuring smile and you felt so shy and embarrassed for being so star struck by your own boyfriend right now.

"Um..I like the..the bow" you answer and he smirks nodding his head and leaning down to kiss your lips not caring that there were cameras and people all around you. He started to be much more comfortable in the last few years about PDA.

"The bow it is then.." he said to the guy who smiled at the two of you nodding and taking the tie away as you pulled back watching as they fixed up Pablo's look making him look even more handsome (if that was even possible!!!)

They took a few pictures and you were watching on the sides with literal heart eyes right now. Pablo was always looking good to you but there was just something about him in a suit..that..drove you absolutely crazy!!!

"Vale! We're done here! You're free to take your girl to your date Gavi" they said making Pablo smile looking towards you looking better than ever in his sweater that covered you completely.

"Gracias mucho! I'll see you next time!" he said greeting each of them again before walking towards you and kissing your lips while pulling on the sweater which made you shy.

"Q..que h..haces ahora?" you asked and he smirked leaning closer and whispering into your ear playfully.

"I need to take that off so I can wear it princesa" he reminded you that you were wearing his sweater and you blushed nodding your head and raising your hands up so he can take it off which he gladly did with a smirk on his handsome face. He checked out that dress of yours one more time 😏

When he changed back to his date outfit, he took your hand and you went to his car to drive to the restaurant. While driving, one of his hands were on your thigh (like always) and you were a blushing mess of course!!!

"You really liked me in that suit, huh princesa?? More than in these clothes for sure" he said and you looked at him with raised eyebrows. Pablo was always so handsome to you despite the clothes.

"You did look handsome in a suit amor..really handsome..but I like this outfit too..and all outfits you wear..but do you know what I like the most??" you say now feeling a little playful and he raised his eyebrows.

"What??" he said looking at you at the red light as you smirked moving closer to whisper it into his ear.

"Hm..your barça kit is such a turn on papi" you whisper pulling back quickly as the light changed and he had to keep driving adjusting his pants which made you smirk. You enjoyed teasing him like this hehe.

During the dinner, your leg would 'accidentally' touch his under the table and he became so tight that he couldn't wait for you finish your meal so he can finally take you home.

"Why so uptight..papi" you kept teasing him seeing his jaw clenching-and unclenching the more frustrated he got.

"Mala..muy mala. I promise when we get home, I'm gonna dress you in my jersey you like so much and fuck you into obedience!" he burst grabbing your thigh underneath the table growling underneath his breath and you knew you were gonna have an exciting night 😉😉😉

D = Dates - Their ideal date would be to go out to a nice dinner, just talk. Truly talk, about your passions, your shared history. Your relationship?

E = Emotions - G likes to pride themselves on not giving to much away. While you and Cam did break their walls, they have learned to rebuild some in your absence. Though if you look at them from the corner of your eye, when they think you can't see them. Their emotions are written all over their face.

F = Family - G is somewhat close to their family. They had a lot of expectations when growing up and were sure to meet them head on. Now speaking of a family with MC, they would be more than interested in it.

G = Gifts - Time is more important to them than material things. Especially when it's so hard to come by and fleeting. Though if you want to give them a gift just know they will keep it forever. They might still have one from before.

H = Holding Hands - They cling to their partner. Graciously extended a guiding hand to you when out and about, or if you just want to feel them close.

I = Injury - G can handle pain quite a bit, they don't really overreact when hurt. But if a certain someone gets hurt, yeah they might freak out.

J = Jokes - They like to pretend they don't enjoy jokes, but you will see them hiding a snicker whenever Cam says one of their classic dad jokes.

K = Kisses - Soft at first, as if you're a piece of glass that can break at any moment. Or someone who can disappear when they turn their backs. When G knows you won't leave, their kiss then becomes rough, all encompassing. Trying to claim who they care so much about.

L = Love - They love with everything in them, with every fiber. Giving their all to their partner.

M = Memory - G has plenty of memories of MC and Cam, some of their favorites was the shared time together at Uni.

N = Nightmare (what is one of their fears?) - Losing someone they love. (for ex G, that may have already happened.)

O = Oddity (what is one quirk they have?) They always try to cover their mouth when they smile due to being bullied when they were younger.

P = Pet Names (what do they like to call you?) 여보 Korean for honey.

Q = Quality Time (how do they like to spend time with you?) Enjoying each others time, taking time out of your daily lives to appreciate the little things. Always talking some of the pets from the clinic out on walks if they need to. (also painting)

R = Rhythm (what song do they hum to themselves, when they think no one is listening.) Why by Hwasa.

S = Secrets (how open are they?) G is very secretive, they keep their secrets close to their chest.

T = Time (how do they spend their time?) Most of the time is at work, when they are free they tend to relax at home. They occasionally like to go out checking the scenery of the town, or well at the clinic with the pets who need them.

U = Upset (how do they act when they're upset?) They stew in their emotions, sometimes for days. They tend to bottle things an unhealthy amount.

V = Vaunt (what are they proud of?) They're mostly proud of the pets they have saved, the work they have done. They worked hard to get to where they are.

W = Warrior (how do they feel about you fighting? Would they fight for you, beside you, etc?) G would prefer not to get into a fight, but that doesn't mean they won't say something in your honor if need be. If Mc was in a fight and was ganged up on then G would definitely fight with you.

X = X-Ray (how well are they able to read you?) Quite well considering your past. Though that may have changed over time, I suppose there is one way to find out.

Y = Yes (how would they propose to you?) Absolutely.

Z = Zen (what makes them feel calm?) Reading, petting animals. Watching kdrama, I mean they would never! Cooking really calms them.

Rafe and Quinn

A little look into the behind the scenes of Quinn and Rafe as siblings in MALIBU BARBIE

•Quinn always felt different from the rest of the Cameron family. Sarah was the perfect child in their dad’s eyes—polished and put-together—while Quinn was more easygoing and a bit messy. Rafe could relate in his own way, feeling the pressure of being the oldest and the only son. They had a mutual understanding with one another cause of it.

One afternoon when she had been sitting on the porch steps, frustrated after failing a test she actually tried to study for. She had been staring at the paper in her hands, crumpling the edges, when Rafe dropped down beside her.

He didn’t ask what was wrong. Instead, he plucked the paper from her grip and glanced at the grade at the top.

“Yikes,” he muttered, folding it in half.

Quinn groaned. “Thanks for that.”

Rafe smirked but didn’t hand the paper back. Instead, he ripped it in half and then once more, letting the pieces flutter to the ground.

Quinn gaped at him. “What the hell, Rafe?”

“Problem solved,” he said, shrugging. “It’s just a test, Q.”

She rolled her eyes, but the weight on her chest felt a little lighter. “You’re an idiot,” she muttered.

•Rafe was always protective of Quinn due to her bubbly, clumsy, naive nature. When Quinn was younger and constantly getting into trouble—whether it was getting in trouble at school or just generally being the “free spirit” of the family—Rafe would often step in to cover for her.

Quinn sat on the curb outside the gas station, her arms crossed as she nervously tapped her foot against the pavement. The store clerk inside was still watching her through the glass, suspicion written all over his face.

She pulled out her phone and quickly typed a message.

Quinn: Sooo… hypothetically, if someone accidentally shoplifted… like, totally by mistake… what would be the best way to fix it? Asking for a friend.

Rafe: Jesus Christ. What did you do?

Quinn: Okay, don’t freak out. I picked up a drink while looking for my wallet, got distracted, and just… walked out. No alarms went off or anything. It’s fine.

Rafe: It is absolutely NOT fine. Where are you?

With a sigh, she sent her location and braced herself. Fifteen minutes later, Rafe’s truck pulled into the lot. The second he climbed out, she could already see it—the you’re an idiot look he had mastered when it came to her.

He walked up, crossing his arms. “Tell me you’re kidding.”

Quinn groaned. “It was an accident! I didn’t mean to take it—I just forgot I was holding it.”

Rafe dragged a hand down his face. “You forgot to pay for something in your hand?”

“Yes! I was distracted!”

He glanced at the clerk still eyeing them from inside, muttering under his breath before looking back at her. “Stay here.”

She watched as he strolled inside, exchanged a few words with the guy, and pulled some cash from his wallet. A moment later, he came back out and shoved the drink into her hands.

She blinked. “You paid for it?”

“No, I let them call the cops on you over a damn soda,” he deadpanned. “Of course I paid for it.”

Quinn twisted the cap open, smirking. “So technically, you just bought me a drink.”

Rafe shot her a glare. “Get in the truck before I change my mind and actually leave you here.”

Still grinning, she climbed into the passenger seat. As they pulled out of the parking lot, she peeked over at him. “Thanks, Rafe.”

He sighed, shaking his head. “Just stop making me do this.”

Quinn smirked. “No promises.”

•Quinn always says thank you when Rafe helps her even if he's grumbling the entire time. He always tells her to shut up, but she knows he secretly likes hearing it.

•Rafe has a talent for knowing when Quinn is lying. She’s bad at it—she just can’t lie. She fidgets, avoids eye contact, and stumbles over her words. He sees right through it every time, raising an eyebrow, arms crossed, waiting for her to crack. She always does.

The sun was high, and the OBX Country Club was buzzing with energy. Rafe, Topper, and Kelce were out on the course, showing off their golf skills while Quinn and Sarah chilled in the golf cart, laughing at their antics.

Quinn, always up for some fun, grabbed a golf ball and started playing around with Kelce. As they joked and tossed the ball back and forth, the ball hit off the cart and hit Rafe’s expensive portable speaker, knocking it off the cart and onto the ground with a loud crack.

“Oh shit,” Quinn muttered, eyes wide as she looked at the shattered speaker. Kelce immediately jumped back. “Uh, Quinn… I think you just broke Rafe’s speaker.”

“Shut up,” Quinn hissed, quickly trying to hide the damage. But it was clear from the broken pieces that it was done for.

Rafe, hearing the crash, turned around and walked toward them with an eyebrow raised, his expression shifting from confusion to suspicion as he saw the broken speaker “What the hell happened?” Rafe asked, his voice calm but sharp.

Quinn immediately started fidgeting, her foot tapping nervously. “I—I didn’t do it!” she said too quickly. “It wasn’t my fault!”

Rafe’s eyes narrowed. “You didn’t do it, huh?”

Quinn’s eyes darted to the ground, then to the cart. She couldn’t lie to him, and she knew it. “Okay, fine! I might’ve knocked it over… but it was an accident!”

Rafe crossed his arms, waiting. “An accident, huh?”

“Yeah! It just… fell!” she said, now looking everywhere but at him. “I was just playing around, and it slipped! I swear!”

Rafe raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “Quinn, you’re terrible at lying.”

She let out a frustrated sigh and slumped her shoulders. “I know, I know! I’m the worst!”

•Rafe and Quinn playfully bicker like it's their job throwing insults back and forth like it's second nature. But if anyone else dares to say something about Quinn? Suddenly, Rafe isn't so amused anymore.

•Quinn knows exactly how to annoy Rafe. She hums when he’s trying to think, changes the radio station just to mess with him, and steals his truck keys just to watch him lose his mind.

Rafe was driving down the road, his mind focused on a hundred things at once—his plans for the day, the endless to-do list in his head, and the hum of the engine. He glanced over at Quinn, who was sitting beside him, grinning.

The radio was playing his favorite song, and Rafe was content to let the music fill the silence. That is, until Quinn leaned over and casually hit the dial, switching the station mid-song.

“What the hell?” Rafe said, glancing at her.

Quinn was acting completely innocent, tapping her fingers on the dashboard. “Just looking for something better.”

“I was listening to that,” Rafe said, exasperated, reaching for the dial to switch it back.

But before he could, Quinn quickly changed it again. And again. And again. “Quinn, stop!” he snapped, his hand hovering over the radio.

She just grinned, leaning back in her seat. “What’s the matter, Rafe? You don’t like this station?”

“No, I don’t!” he growled. “I like the one I was listening to. Just leave it alone.”

“C’mon, relax,” she said, casually fiddling with the dial again. “It’s not like you’re really listening anyway.”

“I’m trying to focus!” Rafe said, his voice rising in frustration. “Can’t you just give it a break?”

Quinn’s grin only widened. “But I’m bored,” she teased, leaning toward the radio to change it again.

Rafe reached over, this time quickly yanking the dial back to his station before she could change it again. He shot her a look, his patience almost gone. “You’re impossible.”

Quinn raised her hands in mock surrender. “Alright, alright! I’ll leave it alone… for now.”

But Rafe knew better. He rolled his eyes, bracing himself for the next round of radio chaos. Quinn never let anything go without a little fun at his expense.

Fyre's convention adventures - Day 2 - Fanmeet #1

When I say this con was a lot of stuff all of the time, it really was constant things from 10am (photos) to 2am (the end of the parties). There were little gaps here and there depending on how quickly you got through the queues, but it was an intense run of stuff if you didn’t plan in advance where and when you would grab food breaks and things.

The middle chunk of the day was given over to the Q&A sessions in the main hall that everyone could attend or the fan-meets, which were small twenty minute one-on-one sessions with one of the cast that aren’t included in the ticket price.

The first panel of the day was Con O’Neill and Nathan Foad. I’m still sad to have missed most of that one, but then I was at the Vico fan-meet and it was absolutely worth every second :D

For anyone who doesn’t know, Vico used to be a professional fencer, so the initial question was about how it feels watching sword fights and duels in media when you know the rules of sword-work in a professional capacity. Generally, they said it’s… not good. Mostly just aesthetic.

They gave very enthusiastic physical demonstrations, showing the difference between proper fencing and sword-fighting, including the different ways one leads over the other. Fencing is sword, then leg, then body, but sword-fighting is the other way around with a lot more close contact.

It was very cool to hear about their past career though a bit alarming to hear about the accident in their last match, where the foil curved the wrong way and slid up under the neck-guard and cut them up the throat. Obviously not fatally, but a whole lot of blood and mess.

I can’t remember what the question was but they told this fantastic story about filming a military film in Mexico (and told us not to look it up because it’s not great). For an element of safety, they decided to go out in more feminine clothing and appearance and went to a bar, forgetting they had a military buzzcut for the film, and the folks in the bar were like “…very masc hair but dress and titties???” and they all got themselves so puzzled about whether to use he or she pronouns that they settled on the local general term for ‘young person’. So instead of Sir or Ma’am, Vico was being addressed as Youth XD Assigned Youth at Bar.

Things swung back to OFMD – when they were cast as Jim it was only 2 weeks before filming started, so they had to speed run everything: the 3D imaging, the costume fittings, the measurements and things for wigs and noses and outfits.

They also rocked up to the initial training without anyone being aware of their past fencing history with the stunt guy who asked if anyone had stage combat training and they said they sheepishly raised their hand and said what they could do and were told they could go and do whatever while everyone else got trained :D

They talked about the juxtaposition of their appearance as Jim in episodes 1-4 with their personality because people saw them in Jim gear at the snack tables but the body language was all cheerful chaotic fae, and the way they had to try and keep their face still so they wouldn’t dislodge the beard. And then the second the beard came off, everyone being like “OMG you don’t stop smiling!” and they were like “I KNOW! I’M FREE!” and said it did kind of feel like Jim felt the same way.

There was also an incident filming in the Republic when their nose-glue started melting and dribbling out of their nose which freaked everyone out (none more than Vico themself), so being free of the nose and the beard was a joint blessing.

I also asked if there were any costumes they would have liked compared to Jim’s and while they did like Stede’s cursed suit with that kind of matador vibe, it was still cursed, so no thank you :D I’m pretty sure there was another costume mentioned as well, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was.

Next up I'll do the rest of the Saturday panels :) Possibly tomorrow. Now is sleeby time.

Personal review of

The Day the Earth Blew Up

A Looney Tunes movie

Overall: An absolute gem

It’s Looney Tunes - the story is nothing revolutionary (except it’s the first ever original plot for a fully animated Looney Tunes film), but oh golly the animation! Fluid, vibrant, and unique 1940’s animation supported by early 2000’s techniques.

Animation

Everything you heard about the animation is true. Fantastic and lively hand drawn animation pays respect to 1940’s reign of cartoons. Particularly focused on the Looney Tunes era of Phil Monroe and Bob Clampett.

It’s crazy to think, until now, the generations after Millennials can experience a film like THIS in theaters. No over-sanitization of Disney, and realism not being the focus.

It’s honest 2D animation flexing how boundless the medium can go off - and you can tell when the animators were given full control.

However, do keep in mind technology has advanced since WWII. Do not go into this movie expecting a “raw and pure-bred” relapse of animation, and then be disappointed when “newer” techniques taint the nostalgic image. These are far from dominating the art direction, but are noticeable to a time-traveller.

I do mean “newer” as these techniques are still dated. The highlight being facial expressions taken from Chuck Jones’ era, which I enjoyed greatly.

Another “newer” method was using 3D models for complex moving objects (eg. an entire rotating spaceship). Although, I feel this was a callback to the tv show “Duck Dodgers” (2003) which used the same technique for the exact same purpose. Also to boot, a handful of “panic/pain” expressions were taken from this show as well.

Comedy

The humor used is a salad bowl of multi-generational jokes, with the cornerstones being visual gags expected in the cartoon media. These are used sparingly and don’t overextend into “Ren & Stimpy” level absurdity.

There’s also good satire on evolving society and minimum wage job experience. There’s another setup where the audience knows the truth and played for the suffering of a character. Another fine note was the jokes hitting without need of racism, minority targeting, or generational discourse.

Actually, the funniest hit for me was an animator joke that happens in the first few scenes (if you saw the movie, you know EXACTLY the scene I am referring).

References

This film is filled with references, but many will go right over your head for how well they fuse to the story. And that is good!

For once a film pays nods to its forefathers without making it terribly obvious. I’ve seen this movie twice with two different groups: my friend group and my grandma. We all caught different homages paying respect to the alien invasion/ B-rate movies, pop culture, and older Looney Tune shorts.

I will only list the non-Looney Tunes references.

Ones that I caught: “The Day the Earth Stood Still”(1951), “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”(1978), The Simpson: Season 5(1993)

What others caught: “Jurassic Park”(1993), “The Thing”(1982), Scooby Doo (we think)

Other references I heard are incorporated but I didn’t notice or know them: “The Blob”(1958), “Night of the Creeps”(1986), “Armageddon”(1998).

It would not surprise me if there was a “Shaun of the Dead” or “Twilight Zone” nod somewhere too.

I heard one scene broke the immersion for some people. It involves a smartphone. The film takes place in modern-day and this is blatant. But Daffy and Porky never update the house, so many assumed it was the 1950s.

Maybe two? No farts happen, but the sound effects tend to sound like it (eg. A balloon losing air). There’s also an egging scene and then thats it

10.1 in review series for Dragon Age Veilguard

70 hours in, 68 actual gameplay

Obligatory I'm not an asshole disclaimer, feel free to skip to the cut.

Something came to my attention. I need to make it crystal clear that I utterly love the diversity in DAV. It's fantastic. I'm also a heavily left leaning, non-binary, queer as fuck reviewer, editor, and author.

I'm on media blackout while I play this, so I'm only getting second-hand info on how awful it is right now in the DA Fandom. Please be safe and take care of yourselves. Arguing with incels and white supremacists is completely pointless. They sea lion worse than an actual sea lion. Your mental health is important.

Though, every single time the anti-queer brigade comes out for a new DA game, I sit there thinking 'have you bozos ever played any DA game, like, ever?' My guess is nope.

Spoilers for Dragon Age Veilguard

I haven't played yet today. I have to take my immunocompromised ass into a world that doesn't give a shit about my life to get groceries. How do I know they don't care? They don't mask. It's as simple as that. If you care about immunocompromised people, people like me recovering from almost dying, pregnant people, old people, many children, people with immune affecting issues like long covid, depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia... goddess, the list goes on, if you cared? You'd mask. It's the number one way to help us survive. And no, us masking by ourselves doesn't work very well. Everyone has to.

Anyway. Yeah. Gotta risk my life for groceries because I can't afford delivery.

I was just sitting here, and I think I figured out some of the many issues that are bothering me about this game. The great big missing I've been trying to figure out.

They didn't make Veilguard for the adult gamers who have desperately wanted it for so long. They made it for children and teens.

Epler even outright said they'd changed things hoping to draw in a younger section of gamers. (In one of the first q&a sessions after the gameplay reveals.) I wonder if he bothered to do any market studies to see if that demographic would actually be interested?

I can only judge by my two gaming kids because I'm on media blackout while I finish this game. But no matter how much they simplified it for kids, they still have absolutely no interest in Dragon age. They're far more interested in indie games than anything a triple A studio puts out. Their opinions on Triple A studios are so low it's honestly ridiculous. They don't even understand why I love games put out by them.

So, the devs chose to remove things so that parents would be more likely to let their kid play what is still listed as a M level game (ESRB M for mature).

Ooooh, no. We can't have rogues picking locks and doing all the stuff rogues are supposed to be able to do. Why? Because that means kids will be delinquents doing the same! (The trust in the ability of older kids to understand the difference between a fantasy video game and real life is astounding, I tell you. /s) This is such a boomer thought process I'm shocked to see it, to be completely honest.)

Everyone is just so... nice. Not kind, that's different. But that sugary, false nice. None of the romanceables have anything tooooo controversial about them.

Blackwall Inquisition was a child murderer and lying about being a Grey Warden. Dorian was a spoiled, enslaving Tevinter rich boy (he did actually have a growth arc in Inquisition). Sera was a thief and a Red Jenny (people who worked against the entitled, rich nobility as needed to protect people without power). Varric (even though you can't romance him) was a thief, liar, cheater, and someone you wanted at your back in a fight because he fights dirty. Cassandra was bigoted, hide bound, and intolerant of any faiths other than Andrastianism. The Iron Bull was a failed Ben-Hassrath double agent. The ben-hassrath are a combination of spies, saboteurs, and assassins, among other things. Whatever was needed to defend the Qun. Cullen was a drug addict and such a horrible person in the previous two games it actually made me physically ill to try to romance him. Solas was, well, Solas. Who we all know had a lot of bad in his background. They've certainly hammered that point home in Veilguard. With a jackhammer. The only romance option in Inquisition that wasn’t dirty was Josey. And if you do Romance her, you find some dirt on her too.

I could say the same for almost every Dragon Age Romanceable in the entire damned series. They've mostly been not the greatest of people and when the writers were doing their jobs right, there were growth arcs for them that made them better people during the game. That's part of the fun of games with Romanceable characters. Picking out which broken bird fits your type of broken to romance. (And we're mostly all broken in some way.)

But all the romance options in Veilguard are... well, boring. They're nice, safe, decent people. And since most people have some darkness in them, it's probably not working for others as epically as it's not working for me.

If they're already nice, safe, decent people (even the fucking assassin!) then there's no room for growth. No room to learn that character and feel like your presence in their lives might give them a light to help them strive to be better people. They've truncated any potential for growth arcs for all of them. I'm a Romance author. When you're designing characters for Romance, they have to have a balance of flaws to good points. Otherwise they're just poorly designed characters with little potential to get hearts throbbing and knickers in a twist.

No wonder the romanceables aren't working for me. None of them have flaws big enough to make them well-rounded characters.

Moving on.

Have you noticed there's no blood splatter? You'll get a slowly creeping puddle around enemies, but somehow it never gets on the characters. I'll check if I have the energy to play after risking my life to get food. But I don't recall seeing a toggle for blood splatter in Veilguard. Like it or hate it, the blood splatter is very much a thing in games like these. They usually have an option to turn it off, but it's usually there. Especially in Dragon Age, blood splatter was a thing. A big thing. Hells, their logo was a blood splatter dragon for at least two games FFS. Edit. Confirmed there is no option anywhere I can find that lets us have blood splatter.

And honestly, having my characters coming out of hard fights looking like they've been through a meat grinder is part of the reason I enjoy games like these.

The choices for dialogue are also usually pretty 'nice'. The 'sarcastic' option usually isn't. The angry/strong one isn't either. It's all just... boring. And I'm into Act three now, so I'm thinking my hope of 'maybe the dialogue will get better' is probably an impossibility at this point.

The simplified plot points, the puerile storylines, the lack of dirt on the romanceables, the lack of growth arcs, the completely ridiculous cutting of 90% of the dark horror elements that made these games so good... we've lost all of that because they made this game for kids. And I highly doubt kids will be interested. So they've fucked over, and at least in my case, utterly pissed off the older gamers who have loved Dragon Age for so long, and very likely failed to attract younger gamers, too.

The problem with trying that, which I really think should've been obvious to somebody. Is that Dragon Age has never been a game designed for kids. It's always been bloody, often harsh, horrific, dark fantasy made for adults.

Games for younger people need to be designed for younger people from the first moment of creation. Or it just doesn't work. You technically can transfer some concepts from adult games into things for kids, but the result is invariably something as awful as Veilguard. And something bound to satisfy few people. The condescension toward younger folks in Veilguard is pretty bloody obvious. Something I've noticed kids hate? Being condescended to.

Congratulations on learning the lesson of knowing who your fucking market is.

It's crucial in any kind of content creation to know who you're making the thing for, and to not deviate from those genre expectations toooo much. Otherwise, you just have a mess of a disaster like Veilguard. They shot for two wildly dissimilar markets and failed both. Even the cartoony look of the art style is much more like a game for kids than anything like a dark fantasy game for adults.

And like... it's still listed as a mature rated game. So what, exactly, was the point of ruining Dragon Age like this? Many parents won't let their kids play M rated games regardless.

It's just so depressing. If they'd actually made this game for the people who had been praying for it for so long? It probably would have been phenomenal. As it stands, I'll be shocked if it doesn't sink Bioware. And if it doesn't, I'd think it because of bribery more than game quality.

I do have to say that you can decorate more than I thought. But you have to buy almost everything. And they're themes, so there's no intermixing possible. Like you could have Elven windows with Alamarri rugs and a Ferelden throne in Skyhold? All gifts from either people or cultures you'd helped, which tied it all together and connected it to the world... you can just change themes for the Lighthouse. It changes everything, and again, you have to buy almost everything. That really removes a lot of depth from the game.

People call all the collectibles and gifts etc. from the previous games 'filler'. But, frankly, that's a very uneducated opinion of what that 'filler' is supposed to do in fiction. The 'filler' (which is an actual technical term in writing fiction, and those things aren't filler) collectibles and quests gave depth to the games. It tied the world of THEDAS into the world of the player character. It's called world building in writing circles. And what confuses me is that I don't recall anyone having to do any of that. If all you wanted out of the previous games (especially Inquisition) was a fighting game, you could do that. None of the world building collection parts locked you out of any quests that I can recall. If you did enjoy deeper world building and collecting things, you could collect to your heart's content. There's none of that delicately intertwined, beautiful worldbuilding in Veilguard. It's stripped down to the very bare bones of mediocrity.

At heart, Veilguard is not a role-playing game. It's a fighting game. And not even a very well designed one. My not-a-fucking-rogue should never have aggro. That's not how this is supposed to work.

Why they felt going from a successful history of role-playing games to a stripped-down, poorly world built fighting game a good idea is just beyond me? Whoever made that decision honestly needs to be fired. And you will almost never see me say that. Jobs are too hard to find. But I will say it about Veilguard. The decisions made have ruined Veilguard in my honest, incredibly disappointed viewpoint.

They marketed this as a role-playing game. The expectation was for a role-playing game set in a richly detailed, deeply world built environment. Like most of the Dragon Age games have been. Especially Inquisition.

And we got a fighting game so stripped of world building that it's sad and just... boring.

Oh, heads up if you're disabled with any sort of disability that affects your hand eye coordination or ability to move your fingers quickly on a keyboard or controller. Don't buy this game. Even on the lowest setting with no death clicked on, you need a great deal of manual dexterity to use this crappy new fighting set up they've come up with. They definitely didn't think of physically disabled gamers at all in developing this. I'm just lucky my particular physical disabilities don't affect me that way. Though my hands are in agony from keeping my not-a-rogue out of the dragon on one side, stone wall on the other situation the fucked up aggro set up always puts me in.

They did bring gifts for companions back, which would thrill me if I actually had any desire to romance any of them. Which I honestly don't. And in games like these? It's often hard for me to pick which one. I often have to install a polyam mod so I can see the other romances because I'm usually so hot and bothered and just captivated by a Romanceable character or three that I won't be able to not romance them. Meaning I need the mod if I'm going to see the other romances.

I'm physically and mentally incapable of not romancing Astarion BG3. (I've tried!) Halsin gets me every time, too. Those are markers of excellent character development.

There's none of that in Veilguard.

Emmerich, and (as much as I hated his intro story, The Wigmaker,) Lucanis are the only slightly interesting characters to me.

Bellara is sweet and awkward, but they reduced her neurodivergent qualities so much it feels... off, to my neurodivergent ass. In the autistic people on tv way of off. (To date, there hasn't been much, if any, good rep of us on TV. It's all inspiration porn.) I don't feel seen in her. And I have quite a few traits she expresses. Whoever wrote her has my version of ADHD. But the way she's written, where she's constantly telling herself she's stupid or foolish or shouldn't do things? Those are markers of traumatized neurodivergence, not the ADHD itself they're highlighting. What that says is that, in her world, people have come down on her so hard for her differences, so often, that now she's mean to herself. ADHD kids aren't born like that. People make us like that. It's a sad representation of ADHD, not a celebratory or accepting one. It makes me feel like she, and me by extension, is to be pitied. Like someone like me, or Bellara, aren't worthy of respect, love, and trust. It's not a good feeling.

Neve is so suspicious and bitchy that I have no desire to even try to romance her. I want to shove Harding off a cliff.

Davrin is really suspiciously similar to Halsin BG3. Big, more blocky than usual for an elf, wants to do good, carves wood... but where Halsin really works (because of his deep character development and darkness) Davrin, while definitely hot and with an amazing voice... just falls flat.

Emmerich is a doll of prince charming manners and adorable fussiness. He's probably the character next to Lucanis who actually has the most darkness to him.

I really wanted to love Taash. And I like them a lot, but their 'you must choose only one' thing showed up really fucking early in the game. I didn't feel like I knew them yet, so they're just never going to work for my demisexual ass unless I actually replay this (unlikely?) with a polyam mod and basically plug my nose and close my eyes and leap into a relationship with them far earlier than I'm really comfy with.

So, there's some clarity for me on what's missing and why.

Genshin Impact has more draw for me as an adult gamer than Veilguard does. And that is absolutely a game targeted at teens and early twenties folks. It's also an incredibly well designed game with good world building, balanced fighting, and devs who know who their market is.

It's an old saw in content creation. But Know Your Market is a saw for a reason.
