was she crazy? you couldnt just move in with her.

“im sorry?”

ellie laughed, you looked at her like she was crazy. “move in with me! ive got an apartment like 10 minutes from here.”

“ellie, respectfully, i haven’t seen you for a decade, and you think im just gonna move in with you to an apartment ive never seen? that you don’t even live in?” you stood up, arms crossed over your chest and paced. “and, even if i wanted to, im still 17, i dont turn 18 until september. i cant just move out. my mom would, like, i don’t know… she’d probably call the police.”

ellie smiled was you through out every possibility under the sun. “she’d disown me. take back my car. she pays for it, not me. and i don’t know if my job even pays enough for me to pay rent.” your threw your hands in the air and finally saw ellie’s small laugh. “what are you laughing at?”

she shrugged, pulling you back down to her bed. “i don’t even move in until the end of september. and only someone who was considering it would come up with all that in two minutes.” she sighed when you rolled your eyes at her. “you keep rolling those eyes and they’re gonna get stuck.”

“oh my god, shut up.” she watched you try to hide a smile.

ellie couldn’t help but wonder about you even as you sat in front of her. what did you love and what did you hate? what made you tick? did you remember everything she taught you in her old room? on the mattress you sat on now. how to kiss, and how to get cole or justin or whatever guy had a crush on you.

she wondered what you wanted to do in life. who you were friends with at school. if you wanted to kiss her as much as she wanted to kiss you. like old times.

your heads both turned as the street lights flicked on.

“i better get going.”

“stay for dinner.”

your voices overlapped before silence.

“okay.”

ellie smiled, getting up and holding a hand out to you. you took and she pulled you up but didn’t let go as she led you back downstairs.

god it was gonna be hard to be just friends.

“so,” joel sat down his fork and looked at you. “have you thought about college? where you wanna go? what you’d like to study.”

you nodded, copying joel and putting down your own fork. “yeah, i was planning to stay here actually. instate tuition and all that.” you took a sip of water before continuing. “i think i’d like to be a teacher? maybe. i just know i want to work with kids.”

“wouldn’t even have to learn about them, considering you are one,” ellie teased. you kicked her shin under the table. “ow, fuck.”

“ellie no cursing at the dinner table.” joel winked at you as ellie scoffed. “what’s happened since we’ve been gone?”

you sat back in your chair, thinking about everything of sustenance. “honestly nothing. it’s incredibly boring.” you gasped as you remembered. “mel got pregnant last year.”

ellie nearly spit out her food. “no way.” you nodded, picking up your fork again. “with who? what’d her parents do?”

“owen.” ellie gasped as you nodded. “who, mind you, at the time was dating abby.”

“good god.” joel stood up, taking his plate with him. “thats enough for me.” you and ellie laughed as he left.

ellie cleared her throat as you took a bite. “20 questions?” you nodded and set down your fork before getting comfortable. “favorite song?”

you hummed, “kyoto, phoebe bridgers.” ellie nodded approvingly. “favorite movie?”

“the outsiders.” you groaned and ellies jaw dropped. “excuse me? whats your favorite then?”

“practical magic, duh.” you smirked as she rolled her eyes. “you keep rolling those eyes and they’re gonna get stuck.” you echoed her comment from earlier.

“you’re so annoying.” ellie flicked a pea at you.

you threw one back, hitting her forehead. “favorite book?”

she thought for a moment before she answered. “catcher in the rye.”

“good one.” she nodded. “wanna get slushies?”

ellie bolted up with a smile, “god i thought you’d never ask.”

“i can’t believe you dont get cherry and blue raspberry.” you shouldered ellie as you walked back to your car.

ellie scoffed. “i can’t believe you do.” she pulled at the passenger door. “unlock the car.” you got in, closing your door and locking it. “angel.”

you smiled at her and turned on music, singing along between sips. ellie walked around to your window and knocked. your pretended to be shocked, turning down the radio and rolling down the window. “what can i do for you this fine evening?”

ellie leaned her arms on the car door with an innocent smile. “can i kiss you?”

“what?” your face and mind blanked long enough for ellie to unlock the door and pull it open. you barely realized before she was clambering over you to the passenger seat. “oh fuck you.”

ellie gasped, “how unladylike. you just sip your slushy and get me home safely,” she teased as she buckled her seat belt.

you fought the urge to roll your eyes as you shut your door and put the car in reverse.

A/N: this originally was a collab with a dear friend i am no longer friends with. ive been wanting to write sero more often and thought this would be the perfect work to finish and do so. if you so happen to be on my blog, ily. the first para to the fourth ("lectures -> day.") were written by her with very light editing whilst the rest is mine. wish we couldve finished this together years ago. anyways, hope yall enjoy this as much as i did finishing it. i'll make this post look prettier when my pc starts working again. 🥺🫶🏽

Lectures droned on and for you, it was a total bore. What you would give to be in the hero studies track and not stuck in the general studies degree... Hell, you were starting to consider your quirk turning anything you touch into rubber as a consideration for a strong quirk. As the blood hero, Vlad King, continued on, your eyes wandered to the clock above the board, counting down the seconds before the bell could finally ring. And sure enough, in ten seconds you were already bolting through the door.

You made quick steps to the end of the hall in hopes you could hurry and get these papers settled for the up-and-coming agency visit. As you shuffled through the papers you didn’t notice one of the windows that opened, the air from outside blowing the papers out of your hand before you could even think about what happened. Your eyes watched in defeat as the papers left your grasp, your brain not processing what had just occurred before one so happened to hit you in the face.

You rushed to the window and looked around in absolute worry, eyes wildly searching for them before sighing deeply in despair. How were you supposed to get them now? That was your only chance to get them done finally and they were due by the end of the day.

“Shit, shit, shit…” You mutter under your breath angrily as your eyes quickly scan the area helplessly. You crouch down body finally out of shock to collect your things. Of course when you finally finish this assignment after being so busy lately something out of your control happens again. While collecting your things in defeat a male's voice calls out to you from the open window.

"Did 'ya drop these?"

You whip your head around and look at the source of the sound, a gush of relief washing over you as you look over at your hero. "Oh my god," You stand up and lean against the ledge, hands reaching out for the remaining papers of the stack. The black-haired male pulls his hand back as you reach out to him, his actions making your arms recoil in confusion. A wave of annoyance promptly follows.

"Sero, give me the papers."

"Nuh-uh," Your boyfriend does his signature grin and moves to hang upside down from his tape. "You gotta give me a kiss first."

You scoff and tilt your head with a deadpan look, staring at him as you try to gauge if he is being deadass or not. You look away from his smug and handsome face, glancing left and right to make sure no one else occupies the hallway at this time. You chuckle as you wordlessly lean forward to give him a kiss, his soft lips eagerly meeting yours.

You and Sero had decided to binge old Marvel movies over the weekend and it may have been your worst and best mistake yet. Right into the first entry of the night, your excited boyfriend, Sero, insists that you start with Spiderman. You two bickered for a while as you wanted to go in chronological order, but later you chose to comply with his request only because he seemed excited to see it. In your memory, the movie was pretty good so there wasn't much complaining, but it wasn't the overall movie that got him obsessed. It was the most iconic bit of the movie for fanatics that set a cultural reset in cinema and fandom:

The upside-down kiss.

At that moment as your head laid on his chest, your cheek could feel the thumping in his chest speed up as the scene progressed. Instinctually you peer up at your boyfriend and lean away to see his face better, a playful smirk on your face as you squeeze him.

"No way you're blushing!" You sit up and get a better look at him with the dim and cozy lighting accentuating his cute face.

Sero rolls his eyes and gives you a look that begs for understanding, his hand grabbing your forearm as a plea. "Of course I am! That kiss was totally unnecessary."

"Mm, you think so?" You tease, body leaning into his and your face only centimeters away from his this time. "So you'd never want to try that with me?" Prying, your free hand that rested on his chest slid its way up to the side of your boyfriend's neck. Your thumb presses lightly against his pulse enjoying the way he shifts at the pressure on his neck.

"That's not what I mean and I didn't say that." Sero responds lowly. You two look into each other's eyes before leaning in to press your lips against his in a heavy kiss.

That night you two certainly did upside-down kiss, not exactly portrayed from the movie but you can already guess what went down. Either way, he was totally enraptured by that scene and used almost every chance he could to have you two recreate it.

You thought his infatuation was cute (which you made the mistake of telling him). In some instances, they were certainly out of place and even managed to gain a bit of a crowd when he'd give you a peck. You were a shy person when it came to showing affection, the fact that you were relaxed enough to do it so easily in private was a milestone. What really took the cake was his public displays of affection, the ongoing lookers enjoying a little too much of your abashed reaction to his advances. The perfect thing about your boyfriend is that he knows when and where to tease you, though. Every kiss he gave you caused you to feel embarrassment mixed with overwhelming love. Even in the more public settings, it was done with so much rizz you couldn't help but feel like a blushing schoolgirl or better yet, MJ. You couldn't lie, the whole appeal was that in many ways Sero always acted and felt like your own superhero—never mind the fact he was training to actually be one. As much as you were a tsundere at heart, his cheesy gestures always seemed to win you over.

But you know what the best part about this is?

You two were on the same page for your couple's costume this Halloween.

"You're my hero, seriously. I think I would've had a breakdown if you didn't catch those." You look up at him as he switches around to be upright again and step back as you collect the papers, giving him room to enter the hallway. He understands your thought process and effortlessly enters the building, gracefully landing on his feet. He makes sure to close the window behind him to avoid another mishap from occurring.

Sero doesn't say anything as he watches you fix the papers in order at a small table, eyes soft in their observations. There was a never-leaving tension on your delicate features, shoulders hunched while your back was impossibly straight. He had known you for a while now and it was clear to him that you were too stressed.

He stares at you for a bit longer making you look up at him with light confusion written all over your face at his silence. "Baby, let me take you out. You look stressed as fuck."

Your furrowed brows, slight frown, and irritation immediately lessen at him calling it out. You sigh softly and shake your head as you go back to rearranging your papers. You didn't want to outright say no, but there's no way you could easily agree. You felt bad either way with how much he does for you.

"C'mon, I can tell with my Spidey senses that you totally need me to take you out."

"'Ro, you have that training all the way into the evening tonight. I can't ask that of you!"

"Oh but you can," He genuinely smiles as he pulls you in by your waist. What you didn't know about him was that when he's around you, he always feels energized. Even if he had a super jam-packed schedule for a whole week, an hour with you always brightens his mood. He was more than willing to spend the rest of his night with you if it meant making you feel better. It wasn't like he secretly felt like he was sacrificing on his part either, he would willingly drop everything just to be with you. He pulls you closer as he places both of his hands on your waist and pulls you close to his chest. "Relax."

He mutters against your lips as you wrap your hands around his shoulders, a full-on kiss finally happening for the day. You softly hum as he applies more passion to the kiss, his hands sliding up a bit to hold your back and you arch into him. Your lips move so easily against his that you totally forget where you even are. The only thing you can focus on is that his lips and hands felt so good on you.

Your body melts against his natural fluidity, your muscles and joints already so accustomed to the black-haired male. You could feel something start to poke against your tummy, the pressure already sending a jolt of arousal straight to your core. You softly whimper when he slips his tongue into your mouth, wanting nothing more but to be engulfed completely in his presence.

As you slip further into the kiss, an irritating thought runs across your mind for the second time during this encounter: your papers. You groan in annoyance as you force yourself to pull yourself away from your lover, a string of saliva connecting you two. You bring up your wrist to wipe it away although not fully committing to pulling away from him just yet.

"Ah shit," You try to collect yourself and lightly pant as you look up at him. It was a mixture of not wanting to go, a silent plea for more later. "I have to meet with my professor-"

"Tonight though right, babe?" He leans against the wall as he asks. You sigh and nod your head in acceptance.

"Tonight, I promise." You lean in and give his cheek a kiss before taking your papers and sending him a small wave. You step back and swivel on your heels, hastily returning on your journey to the aforementioned lecture room. You’re able to hide the giddy smile that reaches your lips as you already start to fantasize about your boyfriend, but he already knew you would start cheesing the moment you turned around.

You felt so incredibly lucky to have your very own hero grace your life like this.

brian is like. You know he's being brian about this. you know he's got his schedule printed out and all the tickets pointed out and they're in some little binder and he's making sure he specifically is carrying it the whole time. and the one time lisa casually reminds him to make sure he has xyz necessary item he's like I Have It, Don't Be Neurotic, because his coping mechanism for being nervous and feeling like a woman is questioning his Authority (<- assumed as the main and eternal coping mechanism) is misogyny. love him.

obviously taylor is bringing bugs with her wherever they go and i like to imagine if theyre sitting down in an airport waiting for a really long time and they were in one of the areas where the birds have gotten inside and are nesting + looking for food (that's a universal airport feature right? the birds that got indoors and just live there now?) she might entertain alec and aisha and also herself by flying bugs around 4 the birds and leading them on little hunting excursions and into loops and shit.

aisha takes selfies in the cockpit or engine room (shes posing next to the pilot and making bunny ears behind their head with her fingers) whenever she gets bored and then comes back to show them to alec and brian realizes theres Muffled Laughter happening in their row after aishas been Not There for a while and is like. hmm. that cant be good. and is doing a really bad job of trying to twist himself out of his seat casual-style to find out whats all that then. i can also imagine him insisting on seating himself next to aisha

broight to you by the fact i havent slept at all since 6-10 pm yestersay pls end my life

like poor guy is just, unable to settle down for the life of him. tried music, meditation, weighted blankets, everything, and he still just can't fall asleep so he gets up and starts wandering around. maybe he starts watching tv or a movie, maybe he makes a snack and reads, maybe he decides that now is the perfect time to do some time consuming task or clean every single inch of the house.

keeper wakes up to the sound of the pet accidentally knocking something to the ground, sees pet is gone, and freaks out. goes to living room and its just them staring at each other while the pet eats shredded cheese over the sink (straight from the bag).

on the other hand, the daytime eepiness.

it's barely twelve and poor thing can't keep his eyes open, falling asleep mid conversation, yawning with every word, seeming really distracted. he falls asleep mid - bath which is dangerous but he was just so warm and comfy! ): he can't help taking like fourteen million 10 minute naps per day. he's wandering around still in his jam jams and looks like he literally is asleep on his feet. eepy boy (:

This fits feral incredibly well. If it’s not canon that Simon is an insomniac for various reasons, it should be. So those two would be up doing chaotic shit together. Like, yes, feral is eating cheese straight from the bag, but Simon is brewing the strongest coffee in this hemisphere and they’re both chatting like it’s a weekend morning. I can see them getting lots of nap times together throughout the day. Ive said before (or at least agreed) that feral is cat-coded so this daytime napping business fits perfectly for him.

Johnny would be a menace, cooing over Shy Thing and trying to get him back into bed. Shy thing would go, wait until he’s snoring, and then creep out again to continue what he was doing. He’s less midnight cheese coded and more starting a lengthy project coded. Like, his whole bedroom needs rearranging, or the bookshelf needs to be reorganized - at 2am. But oh, Johnny would coo over his eepy boy. Dress him up in Johnny’s clothes and watch him shuffle around in too long sleeves, yawning if he sits down for too long, slumping into his shoulder in a nice patch of sunlight.

Good Boy spends all day napping on or against Price. His lap is his favorite spot, but he’ll settle for tucking up against his back too. Price tuts that he needs to stay awake, but poor baby boy just can’t. Price would also try to ~tire~ him out before bed. And while that may put him down for a three hour snooze, Good Boy will be creeping out of bed to watch old cartoons and sew/knit/crochet. Price usually wakes, scoops him up, and sets him in bed with headphones and a tablet.

Sword of the day (1/21/2025): Glamdring

The original prop by WETA Workshop, used in the Peter Jackson LOTR movies. There are no words in my mind for this sword. Or rather, there are too many words, and they're not the right ones. I'm not sure how to talk about Glamdring. I can tell you lots of things about it, of course. It's the sword Gandalf uses in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It is of elven make, once borne by Turgon king of Gondolin. It glows blue in the presence of orcs, who so fear it that they still remember its nickname ("Beater") many centuries after Turgon's death. Gandalf finds it in a troll cave, recognizing its great age and power despite its squalid surroundings. He learns from Elrond the sword's name ("Foehammer" in the common tongue), and carries it with him in all his travels thereafter - even into the depths of Moria. But that's not what I want to talk about. Not exactly, anyway. I read Tolkien's books religiously growing up. They were the loom on which my imagination took shape; they were the standard on which I based my conceptions of beauty and noble conduct. The Peter Jackson movies provided a natural extension for my mind's eye, giving concrete images and voices (God, the music!) to things once held only in half-pictured thought. (Not only in thought, I suppose. The copy of Lord of the Rings I had was illustrated by the late Alan Lee - his ethereal watercolors will forever be Middle-Earth to me. Even now I think of a foggy November morning, pale and grey over half-submerged reeds and grasping poplar branches, as "Tolkien weather".)

If you've watched them at any point, you know the drill: Gandalf faces up against the balrog on Durin's Bridge, a narrow strip of stone suspended above a chasm that looks like it goes down forever. He looks tiny against the demon he's facing, and terribly human. Sword and staff in hand, he strikes the bridge and shatters it with with one last blaze of light. The balrog catches his leg. Glamdring clatters into the abyss, and he falls.

It's at this point that the first movie leaves Gandalf behind, and we have to wait until the opening sequence of The Two Towers for more. The scene plays out as before, this time with sweeping shots of the mountain above. Again Gandalf shatters the bridge; again he falls into the abyss with his enemy - but this time, we follow him. (If you haven't seen this sequence, it's well worth a watch. Or a rewatch. It's a good scene.) The plunge into the abyss is dizzying, claustrophobic. Gandalf tumbles, plucking Glamdring out of the air as it falls with a metallic scream - he drives it into his opponent, wizard and demon writhing in a violent freefall - ...and suddenly the void opens to receive them.

How do you describe something beautiful to someone who hasn't experienced it - or worse, to someone who experienced the same thing you did, and didn't realize the beauty of it? How do you express in conversation a joy which to you is unspoken and self-evident, precious simply by nature? Looking back with a decade of extra vocabulary and life experience behind me, I might describe the moment as a star falling to earth, sacred and profane light joined in deadly union. I might point out that Gandalf and the Balrog are both Maiar, the in-world equivalent of an angel and a demon doing battle - or that Glamdring's last known place of service before Gandalf was in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, a battle in which balrogs marched in numbers against the free peoples of Middle-Earth. I might even draw from my religious studies, comparing Gandalf's fall to the Incarnation or Christ's descent into Hades! I didn't have words for any of that when I first watched the movie. So I just cried.

One little thing I love about the Benoit Blanc films is that they're not afraid to incorporate modern conveniences in a way that just wouldn't be possible in a pre-smartphone or pre-modern era. There really is no replacement for the role of the Google Alerts (or just Google in general) in Glass Onion, for instance.

But that also makes me think about how many incomprehensible elements of modern culture I can efficiently work into a murder mystery. Which led me to write this absolutely ridiculous passage about a scene from a hypothetical Benoit Blanc movie...

The group of suspects huddled about each other in the hospital's cafeteria. Some were wearing white coats while others wore blue scrubs.

Two nurses in scrubs sat close to each other, silently watching the chaos.

"I believe you."

Morgan turned her head at the sudden words. Her friend and coworker Ellie Woods, sitting next to her, emotion barely registering on her face, had uttered them.

"You believe me?" Morgan asked, her voice tinged with hope.

"I know you didn't slip poison into his IV bag." Ellie continued to stare straight ahead, saying nothing. "I don't want to believe it."

Morgan's face fell. "That's... not the same as believing me."

"Sorry." Ellie's face wrinkled. "But the truth is-"

The two fell to silence once more as the great detective walked into the room. The rest of the room hushed immediately, including the three police officers who were guarding the group.

"I have gathered you all here," Benoit Blanc began, wrapping his arms behind his back, "to fully expound upon the truth of the murder of Edward Riverton."

"We already know who did it." The lead police detective stepped up. "The murder occurred between 7:00 and 7:15 PM based on the time the victim's watch stopped, and there was only one member of the hospital staff who doesn't have a confirmed alibi for that time." He motioned to Morgan, who dejectedly looked down at her lap. Ellie protectively put an arm around Morgan's shoulder.

"Then let's clear that up first." Blanc shook his head. "Morgan does indeed have an alibi for the period of time between 7:00 and 7:15 PM."

"I do?" Morgan asked. Her eyes widened with the realization of what was to come out of his mouth next. "No. No no no no no. Please don't say it."

"Morgan, they're accusing you of murder!" Ellie exclaimed.

Morgan's voice was panicked. "If I lose my job-"

"Just say it!" Ellie shouted.

"Ms. Woods, of course, knows what I'm talking about-" - Ellie jumped at the mention of her name - "but she would never elaborate out of respect for her friend. Now, Ms. Morgan Fitzgerald, would you please open up your Genshin Impact account and navigate to the pulls?"

Morgan gave a sad huff and opened the app on her phone. She showed it to the group with a dejected look on her face. There were 0 primogems left.

"Morgan!" Dr. Anderson's furious voice shocked her. "I told you, no feeding your gambling addiction when you're on the clock!"

"As you can see," Benoit continued, "Morgan, having been called in on the day the new patch of her favorite gacha game was coming out, ran down to her locker in the basement, pulled out her phone, and ran to the women's bathroom at precisely 7:00 PM. There, she immediately spent all of her gacha currency on the banner that had just come out, which took her approximately 10 minutes. I can only imagine it didn't go well, but of course she couldn't explain that in view of her boss Doctor Anderson, who had threatened to fire her if he caught her 'feeding her gambling addiction' again."

[Morgan walked back to the cafeteria at 7:15, with a sullen and dejected look on her face. Ellie and Dr. Anderson were eating dinner at separate tables.

"Hey," Ellie whispered, "how'd it go?"

Morgan shook her head, saying nothing.]

Morgan gave a sheepish grin at Dr. Anderson's glare.

"Oh my god, I thought you were lying," Ellie said. "You should have just shown me your damn account."

"We were both with Dr. Anderson all day. I didn't have a chance." She pressed her lips into a thin line, before whispering, "Constellation 3."

Ellie's mouth dropped open. "You lost all four 50/50s?" she whispered in disbelief.

"Yeah." She lowered her voice to a grumble. "Pulled Diluc twice."

"Oh, I'm so sorry." Ellie's voice carried the casual sympathy that only a fellow fan would have.

"Needless to say," Benoit continued, "now that everyone has an alibi, it only follows that the murder was not committed between 7:00 and 7:15 as previously assumed. So," he said, walking back towards the center of the circle, "what actually happened? And how did the killer manage to falsify the time of death?"

(Note: I imagine that the viewer spends most of this hypothetical movie thinking that Morgan's supposed gambling problem involves her blowing away all of her money at casinos and slot machines or something. This is the first strict reveal that her gambling addiction is strictly an addiction to gacha games. And she's F2P.)

Lisa Frankenstien: it came out around valentine's day and I heard NO ONE talking about it. it is defo in my top 10 movies of all time and if you like Heathers the musical and/or horror comedies you should go watch it right now. also besides heathers, it has a lot of the comedy and themes similar to the barbie movie, give it a watch!

Electric Dreams: 1984 scifi rom-com that is entirely avalible on youtube. if you are a Freak about 80s scifi this is the movie for you. Its about a guy who falls in love with the girl who just moved into apartment next door and is too nervouts to aske her out. fortunately his desktop computer becomes sentient and helps him out. Its super silly and cute, also automatic top ten movie for me, i think ive watched it a dozen times.

The wild robot: I'm a sucker for a sympathetic robot enough said

Dr. Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb: Love me a cold war era dark comedy. its got an awesome vibe to it, and is kinda just nice for if you're working on a craft project. Everyone in that movie is freaking insane

Alphaville: niche 1965 scifi movie, kinda absurd to watch but i absolutely loved it. It is a french film noir, and it kinda has the vibe of an hour and a half long twilight zone episode, so it is DEFINITLEY not for everyone, but if ur into that stuff give it a chance

Raggedy ann and andy a musical adventure: perfect movie for a cozy night in, its just a fun 70s animated movie, i dont have much more to say than that!

Evil Dead: I finally got my hands on a dvd of the first movie (not evil dead 2, the first one). Besides Cabin in the Woods, probably my favorite version of the 'college students go to a cabin in the woods and get killed' trope. classic horror vibe and just overall fun to watch.

Rockula: can you tell i like horror comedies. Awesome comedy musical with a really fun cast of characters!

Books: (I pretty much just read sci-fi so if you loathe scifi, skip this lmao also i have no other outlet for this so this'll be a lot)

Full Novels

Space Odyssey series - Arthur C. Clarke: I re-read these books this summer because I hadn't been reading for a while! probably my favorite book series, and HAL 9000 is one of my favorite fictional characters ever. No one ever talks about the sequels, just the first one and usually the movie which is such a shame. Its a beautiful story about space travel and the whole peaceful yet scientific and observant vibe resonates with me a lot personally.

I, Robot - Issac Asimov: I've been meaning to get into Asimov's book series for years and I finally just sat down and read this collection. The book was enthralling and kinda felt like a series of thought experiments about robots and AI. plus the reoccurring characters are very fun!

Galapagos - Kurt Vonnegut: One of my mom's favorite authors, and ive been meaning to read some of his books for a while. As a zoology student the way that evolution is used as social theory in this book is very well done, and is a sucker punch for anyone expecting social Darwinism. the third quarter of this book is a bit of a slog, but the ending makes it entirely worth it in my book, and the pacing is super unique due to the narrator straight up spoiling most of the plot for you within the first few chapters.

1984 - George Orwell: I never read it for school but GOD DAMN. this is my favorite book I've read all year and possibly my favorite book of all time. Winston is such a unique yet deeply relatable character (for me, i know i got mental illness shit goin on tho so like whatever). All of the political theory in this book was eye opening and so so so well written, and the final section of the book ripped me into shreds. If you haven't read this book I would sincerely recommend, and it's a tragedy this got watered down to 'hehe literally 1984'

Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir: I'm only halfway through this one but this is such a chill and fun read! The sci-fi concepts are on point too, super fun ideas being brought up. Rocky my beloved. This may be up there with 2001: A Space Odyssey as a comfort book.

I have no mouth and I Must Scream - Harlan Ellison: my favorite short story of all time. Discovered it in Senior year hs when i was going through a lot and it changed me as a person. I revisited it this year (and also played some of the 90s point and click adventure game adaptation) and i holds up just as well if not better. You would be surprised just how much is slammed into an 11 page story, this is my roman empire.

EPICAC - Kurt Vonnegut: read this bc i found out electric dreams was loosely based off it and I wanted more movie. Im now seriously considering getting one of the quotes tattooed. absolutely beautiful

LOKI 7281 - Roger Zelanzy: Wonderful little short story, quite silly honestly.

The Ones who Walk Away from Omelas - Ursula K. Le Guin: My friend recommended this to me as thier favorite short story. Gives off the vibes of one of those short stories you annotate in High school that fucks you up for like a week, good story.

Adam Link - Eando Binder: Short story series about a robot from 1939-42, somehow still deeply relatable.

17776 - Jon Bois: Digital novella about satellites watching football. Started out as a comedy and had me near tears by the end, the sequel 20020 is wonderful too

All Tommorows - C. M. Koseman: kinda the opposite of 17776 vibeswise, starts out as a serious horror novel and ends with a surprisingly uplifting and beautiful message of community

RUR - Karel Capek: Weird and baller play about a robot uprising, named my pet crab after one of the characters

Albums:

White music - XTC: very goofy, upbeat, and synthy pop album. super fun to listen to

Hip to the Javabean - Lemon Demon: super strange, comforting, confusing, and cathartic album to listen too. Lemon Demon is my favorite artist and this is his album that meant the most to me this year. (also if you've never heard it, I'd recommend his album Spirit Phone to anyone)

Wild Planet - B-52s: Very fun album, B-52s are my favorite driving artist and this album is so fun to sing along to. super silly and goofy.

Monarch of Monsters - Vylet Pony: Very good album, only came out 2 weeks ago and ive listened to it 3 times. Super impactful and is cathartic for all of the ugliest emotions inside (yes I found this artist through mlp fansongs, they are peak and i am cringe and free what about it)

Girls Who Are Wizards - Vylet Pony: Super chill album to just vibe out, perfect to draw to.

Starlight Express Soundtrack: Insane musical, the og 1984 soundtrack is super groovy and just fun to listen to.

TV: (I dont watch a ton of tv so this'll be short)

Andromeda: 2000s star trek style show. fun for like 70% of the episode until you think about the implications and then it becomes absolutely insane, like one of the main characters tries to kill like a few hundred children in like episode 3 absolutely wild.

Dungeon Meshi: super comfy tv show, nice to just chill out with. It's like a combo of high fantasy and a cooking show. all the food looks amazing

Malcom in the middle: One of my comfort shows and probably my favorite live action sitcom. Just an absolutely insane family that loves each other.

Bojack Horseman: NEVER BINGE THIS SHOW IN 6 DAYS DEAR LORD. Super good show as long as you actually think about the themes.

Deciding to try a new thing! Gonna be posting a new 3x3 topster once a week on Wednesday . Whenever I get to it. Keep in mind that these aren’t definitive lists and not ordered. Each post will also come with a list of each album going left to right top down, and a little blurb about it and what I think of it. And till I get through them all the theme is gonna be colors!

•By The Time I Get To Phoenix- injury reserve

First off, RIP GROGGS. Second I’ve always loved this album but wow oh my god in relistening to it recently it has absolutely cemented itself as one of my all time favorites. Well and truly a “post rap” album, and he emergence of a new genre is always a fascinating thing to see happen. I believe in 10-15 years this albums influence will be heard, maybe not in the mainstream but certainly heard. This album sounds like chest pain. You wake up and you feel a hand on your chest pushing your ribs into your own body, it’s hot and you’re sweating but you can’t take the blankets off because it hurts too much. That’s what this album sounds like

•Watching movies with the sound off- Mac miller

I wasn’t quite around as a Mac fan when tbis album first came out but In relistening to his discography I can 100% see how this was a turning point for so many people and this album was what made so many people a fan. You could definitely hear hints of this sort of laid back/life is good style on some previous works (especially macadellic) but this is where you hear it come into full swing. I love this album so much and listening to it while driving around in the fall is an unforgettable feeling.

•I’m On To Me- Rav

Rav is one of my favorite rappers active right now and his recent run of projects absolutely cements him as such. This album and one he put out last year, leap serve as somewhat of a duology this album featuring the decent into depression and hopelessness and leap serving as the ascent. Fittingly then this album is so despondent in its delivery. So many of the songs are just so lethargic and almost wallowing in their displays of depression but never slowing quite enough to allow you to get comfortable with any of the feelings presented. The beats, which to my knowledge are mostly produced by Rav himself, feature beautiful samples of jazz rnb and some instrumental tracks have been warped and filtered to reflect such an altered worldview, drum patterns are slow and heavy, albums like this and earl sweatshirts some rap songs in my eyes have some of the greatest depictions of depression ive come across, not as a crushing sadness but as the lack of emotion at all.

•Stranger- yung lean

It’s a little hard to explain why I love yung lean so much, but I think it’s got a little to do with how he feels sort of like cloud rap in its final form. Obviously whitearmor being the production GOD that he is helps with that, but really I think it’s a collaborative effort. So much of his music is emotionally charged to a degree where I can’t help but wonder what kinda shit he’s been through. And obviously knowing some of that makes it all the stronger.

•When the pawn- Fiona apple

Angrier than most heavy metal albums. If you’re a woman or have any fem-adjacent identity it’s one you absolutely NEED to listen to . She’s a generational talent and this is her strongest effort. Though all of her projects are each some of the best that respective decade. This album leans away from some of the folk influences you can see across her discography, characterized by more piano ballad/chamber pop sounding songs. That’s not an indictment at all, they’re still incredible.

•Burial- Burial

Burial is quite possibly one of the most interesting artists of all time to me. His style of music is genuinely so singular in a way that I dont see anywhere else. Usually in an artists style you can see hints of the people and movements that inspired him, but with burial, there’s nobody that sounds like him, and he sounds like nobody else. I saw a comment once that said “burials style is like a butterfly, you can hold it, you can look at it, but if you try to keep it in your hands, it won’t be beautiful anymore.” This isn’t quite at the level of his 2007 magnum opus untrue, but it’s still a damn good ambient record.

•Heaven or Las Vegas- Cocteau Twins

You know em, if you’re cool you love em- Cocteau twins. This album is someone’s teenage years. It’s not mine but it’s someone’s, and I’d love to sit down and talk with them one day. I have a feeling they’ll be able to help me.

•Lamp- Lamp Genso

Just a very sweet, gentle album. Super relaxing vocals, and some of the best jazz instrumentals I’ve heard in a while. Idk I don’t have too much to say on this album, the music just speaks for itself.

Favorite song:Yume Utsutsu

•Geogaddi- Boards of Canada

BOC fits in a weird place for me musically. They’re just as similar to other artist that I listen to that I often forget them. But every time I return to them I instantly remember how unique they are. This album is their best work to me. Though Music Has The Right To Children us undeniably equally as seminal, this album is in a league of its own. I’m constantly in love with it. Each track is so layered with unique elements and vocals and samples, the synths feel like ocean tides, it’s just addictive.

OMG THAT MOVIE WAS AMAZING, WHY DID I WAIT 5 YEARS TO START WATCHING THAT FRANCHISE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! WHAT WAS I THINKING!? THAT MOVIE WAS FANTASTIC, ITS SO WHOLESOME AND RELATABLE AND HEARTWARMING. OMGGGGGGG! THAT IS AN AWESOME FAMILY MOIVE. BRUH OMG. ok ok but seriously I do have some actual things to say.

1. I’m sad that we didn’t get to see future Donnie and raph or much of the future at all, that sorta felt like a really big chunk that was just kinda missing. Maybe that’ll be cleared up in the new season/s coming out soon.

2. I wanna see what happens to Casey, I want him to meet his mum or something like that, because that is awesome.

3. The power of family is such an amazing element to me because realistically, they can’t be family they are different spiecies of turtles and their dad is a rat and their…dad is a yokai BUT THAT MAKES IT FOUND FAMILY. And I fucking love that even more. I never understood the unrequited love of family but found family makes it so much more close to home for me. I love them

4. DONNIE IS FUCKING AWESOME. I KNEW HE WAS MY FAVOURITE FOR A REASON. HELL YEAH!

5. This whole thing was a blast and an emotional rollercoaster and I really recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it (but let’s face it I’m the one that’s late to the party here) but holy fuck yes, awesome movie, awesome part of the franchisee, turtles forever

i found this from a tweet and when i think aout it, it saddens me how real it is. hogshit why does it exist is making a new generation of hp fans. ive heard middle school students from my school talk about it, and in my class gc, i saw a picture of my classmate's younger sister play it. i hate that this is the world i, and so many others, have to live in.

In an better universe A Wizard of Earthsea would have gotten a not godawful adaptation right during the time Lotr and the shit wizard franchise got theirs cementing it as the cooler "magic school" book and the way more based fantasy series and maybe now Joanne wouldn't be fucking richer than god and using that wealth and cultural capital to champion for the inexistence of Trans People.

Or we don't even need to go that far, in another better universe the BBC Watch TV show wasn't the unmitigated shit disaster it ended up being and was a faithful depiction of the books and the Earthsea series would finally come out faithful to the original books and now we'd have a new generation of people discovering the actual based Anti Capitalist Fantasy Authors Le Guinn and Pratchett finally supplanting the Blairite Hack once more as she fades into obscurity one shit detective Novel after another.

Like, this fucking game revitalising the otherwise dying franchise after the disaster of the fantastic beasts movies is, indeed, fucking tragic.

They could have moved on, let the mid barely 6/10 game flop, played better games, games that don't fucking cost them 70 euros with a day 1 patch a day 1 DLC and playstation exclusive content.

Like even putting aside the controversy the antisemitism the Transphobia and Joanne and other Transphobic assholes using this as validation for their shit, this is still a fucking dangerous precedent, because it tells developers, the gaming industry, that it doesn't fucking matter how generic or bogstandard or problematic a game can be, as long as the IP invokes feeling for nostalgia and the hype is big enough no one will care and they will fucking shovel down their grey, amorphous slob.

The best move there was doing nothing. And they didn't even manage to do that.
