some notes:

aside from basil's parents' general design and the implication that they're busy and rich, everything else about his family outside of his grandmother is cat's headcanon!

the flowers assigned to each family member are olive blossom (oliver), dahlia (dahlia), sea aster (oliver's father), goldenrod (elijah), rosemary (rosemary), and azaleas (basil's grandmother)

the flowers in the last part represent the people (new and old) in basil's life!

dahlias are in the same family as daisies and sunflowers!

basil's dream of his family tree/garden is inspired by the meadow in headspace

spirit mari takes the form of her 15 year old self to basil, as he never wants to turn away from the truth again

thank you again for the patience and encouragement as we worked on this!! i honestly wouldn't have gotten through this much work over the months if i wasn't in love with what cat wrote, so i hope you enjoy it! 🫶

Some iromo au concept arts!!!! Here’s a nothing!!!! (Literally. That is their names. I’m so clever woah)

I don’t think that this is what it’ll end up looking like since I want the nothings to be kinda like headspace in this au in which they are really fun and bright looking but represent trauma and horrible memories and all that stuff (info dump under cut!!!)

OKAY SO this is rosemary’s nothing (I have one for dawn too but it is very complex so I’m putting off drawing it) which I have nicknamed the lurker for convenience’s sake to differentiate!!!

The lurker is just that, he lurks. In contrast to how basil’s something is constantly devouring him, the lurker is always as far from Rosemary as possible while still being in her peripheral vision. She can always see him out of the corner of her eye, or feel his presence behind her. Sometimes he’s closer than normal, sometimes farther. But he’s always there and he’s never gone, and he doesn’t move. He just watches.

Thissss is to represent how Rosemary reacted to the incident...! without giving much away her whole thing is inaction. While basil did a horrible thing out of impulse to protect his friend and regrets it immensely everyday, viewing himself almost as a monster alongside ‘something’, a thing he knows doesn’t exist deep down but has to believe in it to defend sunny, and puts himself on par with it, Rosemary does the exact opposite- she was frozen in terror and did nothing at the scene. She didn’t move. She just watched, shaking, panicked, unable to do anything like she usually does. Maybe if she had just stepped forward to help, or reached for a phone to call an ambulance just that bit sooner, all of this could have been prevented. Maybe she could have done something. Maybe she could have saved him.

But that didn’t happen. She did nothing, and without precious time, the results of the incident worsened and ended as they do in the au’s modern day. Rosemary tries not to blame herself. But she can’t hold the guilt off. No matter how plagued she is by nightmares in which the demons that stalk her silently mock her, telling her all these thoughts she’s buried down, she denies them, over and over again, claiming her own innocence. But she doesn’t believe herself, whether she knows that or not she doesn’t know. But no matter how firm she is about her lack of guilt, she feels it deep inside, and it HURTS.

Also, the lurker’s lower half is roots! I wanted to do that (a) to emphasise the fact he’s “rooted in place” (b) to bring plant imagery into it and (c) so that he’d have that classic tendril motif the somethings have in the og game!!

Sorry I've been on a hiatus of not posting anything but rants and reports. I have been busy with the fics I've been writing! You guys may have seen my posts about them and this post is about them. Writing takes a lot of time and I've been busy with friends, mental health and school so I am going to write a lot over the weekend and starting today after I get home from my boyfriends house! For this Shipweek that I'm doing on instagram I have been a bit behind and need time to write.

EVERYONE LIVES AU THATS WHAT

I'm calling this the 'roof au' because sunny. well. you can guess

-the premise of this au is that sunny, overwhelmed by mari, his parents, and his own expectations attempts suicide by jumping off the roof of his house, similar to the bad end

-he survives of course, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and blind in one eye

-mari is, expectedly, DISTRAUGHT. She hates herself at first for not noticing and for pressuring him, but eventually channels it into making sure sunny never gets hurt Ever Again

-sunny, similar to the canonverse where he forced himself to forget about the incident, forgets that the accident was a suicide attempt. If you ask him, there was an accident that left him paralyzed and that's it

-hes really pissed because everyone, ESPECIALLY mari, seems to be treating him like hes about to die or smth

-since he doesnt remember the whole suicide thing, he thinks its because hes disabled and that makes him really, really annoyed

-with mari home from college for summer and more overprotective than ever, sunny feels almost suffocated

-the story starts when sunny overhears a conversation between aubrey and mari that suggests his accident may not have been an accident, leaving sunny confused

-he starts to realize that theres gaps in his memory and things that dont add up, so he tries to figure out through his friends and his own headspace what ACTUALLY happened

-headspace still exists, tho its more of a place for sunny to have fun adventures with his friends that he wouldnt be able to have in the real world

-in headspace, sunny can still walk, and instead of being confined to the picnic blanket, mari joins his party and is able to fight (though, like hero, her skills are less attack focused and theyre able to buff her friends stats, and theyre usually music focused), though basil still sits on the picnic blanket since he doesnt like to fight

-omori is a seperate entity from sunny, sort of like an imaginary friend. he protects basil at the picnic blanket (and sunny from the truth) sunny has had him as an imaginary friend since he was very little in this au, with omori often comforting him (even more so before his attempt, due to the stress he was under)

-its important to note that sunny is no longer suicidal, since he doesnt remember a reason to be. he woke up one day and completely forgot, so mari just went along with it, believing it was better for his mental health

-its equally important to note that like kel, basil does not think sunny attempted suicide. he believes that mari PUSHED him, and it was all her fault, so he refuses to talk to her

(edit cuz i forgot to add this) the ships in this fic are:

rosemari: very much an old married couple, more distant than they used to be because of mari spending so much time worrying about sunny

suntan: idiots in love. they both have a crush on the other but they're way too obvious to notice

cotton candy: 'just got into a relationship,' lots of awkward handholding and kisses. sunshine + sunshine protector. aubrey LOVES gushing about kim, mostly to Sunny cause Kel makes fun of her, Hero keeps telling her to be careful, and Mari's never home. Kim tried making a bracelet for Aubrey once and majorly fucked it up, but she kept it as a keychain

Immediately I think about my Basil headcanons because he’s my favorite

basil headcanons I have:

-Basil and Polly have a found family relationship and nobody can convince me otherwise (I HATE BASILS PARENTS <3 <3)

-Basil actually has some decent muscle on him from frequent physical activity out in the garden, I also headcanon that he and Aubrey do workouts together post good-end as a way to bond and rebuild thier relationship

-Basil is vaguely spiritual in a casual way..like, he believes in herbal remedies and many different luck or good-will superstitions, he’ll put out bushels of rosemary and light incense and hang a horseshoe over his door, stuff like that (it helps with the paranoia)

-Basil goes to coffee shops and orders the worst tasting most high caffeine drinks imaginable, like you’d expect him to go for something sweet but Basils not actually that into sweets since too much sugar gives him a headache, and he does get awful caffeine jitters of course but refuses to stop drinking coffee “it helps he focus” he says (it doesn’t)

-Basil can dance. If you can convince him to actually get out there he will TEAR UP that carpet like it’s nobody’s business, nobody knows where he learned that and the first time he and the gang all go to a party together Kel and Aubrey are just left flabbergasted watching him absolutely KILL IT to Rasputin on a Saturday night

That’s about all for Basil but I think I have some Sunny ones too let me think..

-I headcanon Sunny as trans FTM… am I projecting? Maybe a little…

-Sunny is a really sore looser when it comes to games, do not play monopoly with Sunny he won’t even look at you for days, and don’t even THINK about Mario kart with this guy

-Sunny has high tolerance for horror content and is constantly consuming some form of horror media, everyone hates when it’s Sunny’s turn to pick the movie on movie night because he will find the goriest stuff imaginable (he knows Basil and Kel are wimps, he thinks it’s funny)

-Sunny can be incredibly insightful out of the blue, like you’ll say something to him about a problem you have and he’ll drop the soundest advice you’ve ever heard (he and Mari got that from their mom)

-post good-end Sunny sleeps with a nightlight to prevent sleep paralysis

That’s all for sunny right now but I’ll probably have more later …

Here’s some miscellaneous headcanons for other characters:

-Hero plays table tennis

-Aubrey hosts a monthly “rage night” out behind the Othermart where all her friends get together and break stuff, they drag out wooden crates and old furniture and occasional a personal item they’d like destroyed and just smash it with bats and pipes and whathaveyou

-Aubrey was the one who shaved the side of Kim’s head, Kim’s mom was not happy

-Mikhael secretly loves baking, he just won’t admit it because he knows his siblings will tease him for how he’d been acting

-Kel goes to party’s, accepts drinks, then pours them out when nobody’s looking and pretends to be drunk when he isn’t

-Kels first car was an old station wagon, surprisingly he’s an incredibly responsible and good driver, he’s also everyone else’s chauffeur for several years until the rest of the teenagers in town get thier licenses
