It's Aubrey's birthday :DD Made a small doodle page for it
Also I drew Aubrey's from my 3 Omori AUs
"Sunny After All" is a remake of an AU from 2023, basically just a take on an Omori sequel
"Hime" is a role swap AU I've posted about recently where Aubrey is in Sunny's role
"The Lady from Room 143" is a weird take on the Omari AU I've been developing for a while but never posted about

So here’s what I’ve been doing these past few weeks :D
(please read the text below)
Howdy ho there! I’ve been working on personal references for the OMORI cast since the start of December, and there all finally done! Granted most of what’s listed on these are personal headcanons, some of which are inspired by the headcanons of others, so don’t take them too seriously. If you want to use these designs in your own art, knock yourself out, I’d love to see it! But please be sure to credit me if you can. Also these designs aren’t part of any AU, unless you consider “so I added a few headcanons” AU material.
CW on a few of these for depictions of self-harm, eating disorders, and neck injury. This isn’t to say anyone who has experienced with these things needs to be censored, but if these are topics that could squick you out or trigger you, just keep scrolling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll throw in the silhouette line-up too, since strong silhouettes are something I’m trying to work on.

I think the biggest faux-pas people are making with Whit is that there is only two states people give him
"He secretly cares SO MUCH and he's just repressing all of it !"
"He's actually secretely evil and his good deeds are a lie"
Which I feel doesn't really incapsulate the impression i've had of him.
I genuinely do think his reaction to the murders aren't normal like at all, they aren't just emotional repression they're something deeper. Especially with how it seems Whit wants to give out an emotional response to the things that happen to him but he simply doesn't seem to be able to (him saying "jeez" to Min's execution and trying to comfort Eden)
But I also don't think he's faking all of his emotions, he clearly cares for Charles and...Teruko (sometimes) (idk why he's so close to her for specific reason but urifh another analysis for another day). He does give out negative emotional reactions to Teruko's past and Charles being angry at him.
HOWEVER, he's definitely not normal like at all. His fucked up expression is not at all depicted in a normal way and it's not really in an appropriate settings. There's a lot of things hinted to be wrong with him that I don't think we can just hide between the pre-conceived notion that he's just meaning well.
This is like DRDT, I think the answer will very much lie somewhere in the middle with him and I don't think a generic "he's evil" or "he's just sad but hiding it" are gonna cut it here.
After all Whit's secret quote isn't really about him witholding his feelings about the killing game but whatever his relationship with his mother is. Same with the Mai related quote, it's about friends. The main issue for Whit is Loneliness (ahahah Whit yander-*gets shot*)
This is kind of giving the same feeling as people did when they immediatly made Ace out to be a survivor purely because they had expectations for his arc to end on a redemption arc. I don't think we should expect tropes to really be a crutch here, he's not just Kel from Omori is what I'm saying.

Some concept art for a discarted comic idea.
But I ended up adapting the script to a fanfic! (It's a little rough and I'm new to writing, so any feedback is welcome) Omori spoilers ahead.
The events of this story happens sometime after Mari's funeral.
///
It's sunset time with blue and soft pink tints all over the urban scenery. Basil is finishing tying up the velcro of his sandals to go out. Grabbing the door knob, he turns his head back to leave one final message before leaving.
"I'll be back soon, grandma!"
There's a chilling breeze outside and the streets are eerily empty. But Basil prefer this way. His head is full of thoughts, he needs the space. Approaching his destination, he stops looking at the sidewalk and lifts his head. He finally spot a living soul a bit ahead of him.
It's Kel. He's in front of Sunny's house. Kel seems to hesitate for a while, but gathers courage and knocks on the door. He vigorously give three consecutive knocks.
"That's a bit too much." Basil observes. Good old Kel.
It doesn't take too long for the door to open, and Sunny's mom appears. She has a dull look in her eyes. She's tired.
"Oh, it's you, Kelsey…" She looks over his shoulder. "and Basil."
Kel also looks back. Basil is suddenly there, a few steps of distance.
"What can I do for you two?"
"Uh." Kel is a little surprised with Basil's presence, but figured out he came for the same reason as him. "Can I- Can we talk to Sunny?"
"Hm…" She looks away before answering. "He's a little more unresponsive than usual..."
Basil feels a pinch of pain in his stomach.
"I wasn't able to talk to him since… the funeral." Kel fidgets a little. "I want to let him know he can count on us!"
Sunny's mom mouth corner's change to a soft, yet warm smile.
"Well, I'm sure he would appreciate to hear from you two, at least."
She steps back, opening the door welcoming the boys in. Kel perks up and calls Basil with a hand gesture. They enter the house.
"He's at their- at his room."
At the living room, the boys can see the glass door that leads to the backyard, highlighted with a menacing reddish orange light of the last sunrays. Kel immediatelly changes his attention to Sunny's mom back, while Basil has a hard time moving away his focus from it. They arrive at the staircase. Kel doesn't think twice and steps halfway through it. Basil freezes.
"Basil?" Kel calls out for him.
Basil tries to hide his anxiety and replies "C-coming!"
They are at front of Sunny's room, Sunny's mother a little further, to give the boys some space. Kel knocks the door, but this time, more gently.
"Sunny? It's Kel and Basil!" No reply.
Basil gives a quick look back at the staircase and Something starts crawling around him.
"Sunny." Kel starts again, leaning his hand on the door. "Sorry for not talking to you until now. But you know that we're here for you, right?" Kel sends a signal to Basil by raising his eyebrows and tilting his head towards the door, asking him to join.
Basil desperately tries to find the words. But the truth is, he wasn't expecting Sunny's mom, much less Kel's presence. It's not that he didn't have anything to say. He couldn't say anything he wanted to.
The creeping silence started to bother Kel, so he continued instead.
"Oh, I know! If you want, we can have a sleepover!" No reply. "Uh, it doesn't need to be anything fancy! We don't need to play games or eat snacks… We don't even need to talk. Just have each other's company, y'know?"
Kel smiled as he placed his other hand and ear to the door, waiting for the answer. He believed his idea was too good to be turned down. No reply.
"Sunny?" More silence.
Sunny's mom sighs, ready to call Kel and Basil back. Kel moves away from the door. He starts playing with his hoodie strings, looking a little less bright than before.
"Don't worry about it, it's okay." He did his best to hold a smile "I totally understand if you just need time alone."
"…like Hero." He completes under his breath, almost a whisper.
Another wave of silence. Is Sunny ignoring them? Is he even listening? Basil's mind go blank as he stares at the door.
"We'll come back tomorrow!" Kel bursts. The "we" took Basil by surprise.
"R-right! We'll be back tomorrow, Sunny." Basil faintly addes to the farewell.
Kel gives one last knock on the door, and starts walking away. Basil follows him.
"Oh, kids…"
"Can we really come back tomorrow?" Basil asks.
"Oh, yes, you may come… I'll let you know if he's available or not." It wasn't very reassuring.
After one last goodbye, the two boys leave the house. A few steps later, they stop in front of Kel's house. Before Basil could say anything, Kel apologizes.
"I'm sorry you couldn't say much. I hogged all the time for myself."
"N-not really. I wasn't sure what to say, anyway…"
"Isn't it strange, though? Sunny… He doesn't like to be alone, why would he…?" Kel stops and shakes his head. "We just have to try again tomorrow!" Kel smiles seems forced, Basil notices.
"W-well… See you tomorrow, then?"
"No, wait- let me walk you home!"
"O-okay." Basil let him be.
In the middle of the walk, Kel turns to Basil.
"I still didn't talk to Aubrey either. Did you?" Basil shakes his head. "I thought about visiting her too, but- I think I'm the last person she would want to see." Basil thought the same of himself, but kept silent about it.
Kel is a open book, he has no reason to hide his emotions and usually can be very blunt with his honesty. But something feels off today. Or since then. That day. Looking better, Basil notices Kel was using a navy colored hoodie at least two sizes larger than it should be. A small letter "H" was embroidered on it. Kel would use passed down clothes from Hero, but this one was clearly borrowed before its time.
He was lonely too.
Soon, Basil's home is right around the corner.
"Hm, actually." Basil starts. "I promised grandma I was going to buy a few things at the convenience store. Do you want to tag along…?" Kel snorts in reply. Was Basil trying to cheer him up?
"Sure, let's go! But let's be quick, mom won't like if I come home too late." He skips ahead.
"Wait! The store is on the opposite direction!"
"Oh!!"
///
It's night. Between the interval of a lightpost to another, Kel can't stand the silence anymore.
"Aah, I should have brought some pocket money!" He comes closer to Basil, using his hand to shield the conversation like he was about to confide a secret. "But I already spent all my allowance."
Basil wasn't expecting chit-chat, but wasn't too surprised either. It kind of gave him a sense of normality.
"…Hero always scolds me for spending it too quickly.
Like everything that happened was just a bad dream…
"But Mari would always treat me instead!"
A shiver passes through Basil's spine.
"Are you cold?" Kel opens his arms as invinting for a hug.
"No, I'm okay!"
Kel stops and rewinds what he just said.
"Sorry."
"N-no, don't be." Basil almost regrets calling Kel over. The uncomfortable silence is back, until Kel broke it again.
"I'll be more careful with my money from now on."
"?"
"So I can be the one who treat everyone out! How is that?"
"Are you sure you'll be able to do that?"
"What? You understimate me!!"
Basil slips a weak smile. Kel smiles back, like he planned it from the beggining. They continue their walk.
///
At the convenience store, Basil goes straight to what he went for. To kill time, Kel explores around until something take his attention at the candy area. Basil approaches too see what was so interesting. Kel only notices his presence after a while.
"Eek!" Kel was startled.
"…Are you going to ask for borrowed money?" Basil teases.
"No!! I was just looking… See, there's everyone's favorite flavor today…"
Basil identifies each flavor and silently pick them up.
They leave the store and Kel lifts his lollipop over his head.
"Basil, you're the best!" The compliment take Basil aback.
"It's just candy…"
"Yeah, it's just candy." Basil didn't expect him to agree so fast.
"It's the thought that counts!"
Basil just nods.
///
They arrive at Basil's house again.
"We're here!" Kel announces the obvious.
"Y-yeah."
Basil moves ahead to the door.
"See you tomorrow!!"
Basil stops.
"S-sure."
///
Basil is welcomed by his grandma with tea and cookies. Putting the groceries aside and with a cup in hands, he stares at the lollipops over the kitchen's table. Strawberry, watermelon and grape. He thinks back when Kel pointed that everyones flavors were available. All six of them. He shrugs the thought away.
Kel is on his way back, already appreciating his orange lollipop, while waving the cola flavored one in the air. He wonders when he'll be able to deliver the little gift. He wonders when he'll be able to talk to Hero again. Or to any of his friends for that matter. He shrugs the thought away.
THE END

[Omori PMD AU]
Team Sunrise ☀️
Sunny and Mari - an Absol and an Espurr, respectively. Siblings who woke up in the Vast Forest with no memories from before waking up there. The only thing the two are sure about is that they were both originally human. Team Sunrise was formed in order to find out what happened to them and to try and get them back home. Sunny is quiet and doesn’t speak up much, content with going along with everyone else. Mari, in contrast, is outgoing and talkative, but has some perfectionist tendencies that can lead to her becoming stressed easily
Kel - a Growlithe and Hero’s younger brother. Very hyperactive and excitable, he’s wanted to be a part of an exploration team for some time, and is ecstatic that Sunny and Mari’s situation has given him an opportunity to be a part of one. He tries his best to remain happy and positive no matter the situation, but deep down, is hiding a huge inferiority complex in relation to his older brother
Aubrey - a Buneary who moved to Faraway Town by herself some time ago. She puts on a tough personality to hide her deep insecurities, stemming from her mother’s upbringing. However, the forming of Team Sunrise allows her to start dropping some of those walls, and she grows especially close to Mari, viewing her as an older sister figure
Hero - a Kirlia and Kel’s older brother. Being the oldest of the group, he finds himself responsible for making sure his younger friends don’t get into any trouble. Despite his mother’s pressure to evolve into a Gardevoir and become a doctor, Hero is much more content staying in Faraway and improving his skill in cooking. He wears an Everstone around his neck, but no one else on the team knows that’s what it is
Basil - a Shaymin who once lived in the hidden and elusive Shaymin Village, but ran away after being ostracized by his peers for refusing to transform into sky form. After being found by Polly, he moved to Faraway Town with her and has lived under her care since. He is very timid and scared of fighting, and so focuses more on providing healing and support during missions rather than getting directly involved in battle

Hey SUNNY, it's MOMMY. How are you feeling?
I hope this is the landline for your hospital room, don't want to accidentally talk to a stranger, haha!
... I'm sorry, honey, I had to drive back to the city for work, otherwise I'd get fired. I'll try to visit you next weekend, okay?
Also, big surprise! KEL and I talked just earlier, and well... You'll still get to see some of your old friends occasionally, maybe on some saturdays or holidays.
At first I tried to say otherwise. Since the distance from Faraway Town and our place is a three-hour drive, yet they still insisted on it...
But how could I say no to them? I owe them a lot for making your last days at our hometown worthwhile.
But...
I don't want to see you talking to BASIL, okay? It's for your own good.
I'm sorry, SUNNY.
... I should of been a better mother SUNNY, I'm so sorry.

PUTER MASTERPOST AT LAST!!!
If you’re one of the people that asked me for this, the wait is over!!
To my pleasant surprise since I started it puter has become probably the most popular thing I’ve made which I’m SO grateful for… so, I thought it only fair to give the people what they ask for and make a full master post compiling all the content I’ve made for the au thus far!! This will be updated as I post, hopefully.
Keep in mind that puter is still a work in progress, so there will be a lot that doesn’t work or make sense yet, but trust me, I’m working on it! Remember, patience is key!!
So, without further ado, here it is!!!
Quick Summary
For anyone wondering what puter actually is, here’s the gist:
Following the events of OMORI’s neutral ending (specifically the one in which basil dies… specific variation of THAT isn’t too key at the moment but that might change for plot reasons…), five years after the move, with some help from his mother, sunny is improving… very slightly. In fact, he’s had enough motivation to pull together a shitty little flash game, fuelled by his past passion for them. He’s still not fully all there, and he still spends most of his time in headspace asleep, but now he has SOMETHING to work on outside of it, and it’s giving him the slightest reason and encouragement to wake up each morning. The slightest.
And, notably, one of the characters in said shitty flash game is actually based on Mari… Even when he isn’t really trying to, he ends up putting her in the game anyway, because he wants mari to be safe, and he’s so consumed by guilt and regret that he feels obliged to make her in worlds where she can be okay. Another sort of subconscious way of both immortalising her and apologising to her in another fun, perfect world of his design, where no harm can befall her, and everything is perfect. He didn’t kill her. They never argued. Mari is okay. Mari is fine, again. He’s sorry. He’s so, so sorry.
However… this stand in mari character actually gains sentience and becomes self aware, convincing itself that it truly is mari… leading to a LOT of stuff. We call her “mariware” over here, by the way!
The au’s actual storyline takes place years after this, following kel after he visits sunny’s mother five years after his mysterious suicide, and possessing a flash drive containing her son’s game… and, as we know, something else.
As stated like thirty times at this point… VERY work in progress!!! But I do have most of it figured out… though I’m not sure how to convey it as an actual story yet… but that will come with time, I’m sure!!!

BASIL (OMORI) — A complete (for now) analysis
spoilers under the cut !! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
Tumblr media
BASIL is actually more nuanced than the game makes him out to be, and has hid his emotions far before KEL has, and is as tragic, if not more tragic, as AUBREY is.
HIS CHILDHOOD (^_^)
Let’s start off before he met the friend group. As POLLY says in-game, his parents left him when he was a toddler, with his grandmother being the only one there for him. She also does note that she’s only ever seen them once.
Tumblr media
…This is obviously something that affected BASIL’s life a lot. Being left with only one person—an old one at that. She cares, yes, but the thing is, we don’t know how she was like. All we get is old art, old concepts, but even then, it’s how SUNNY sees her. Maybe she was pretty strict, maybe she was someone that was lax but when upset, her punishments would be severe, traumatizing, even. Even then, despite the fact that he’s left with someone that cares for him, it’s still pretty bad. Why? Because he would realize that she isn’t his parent. That his grandmother isn’t his parent. And that realization hurts. He’s left to wonder why his parents left him. Why his parents abandoned, and neglected him. Why he seemed unwanted compared to others. Was it because they found him to be weak? Was it because they hated him? Was it because they had no time for him? We never know, and he really never did, either. It does not help that canon implies that there was no communication from him to his parents either.
This can actually cause children to feel like an alien. To feel like they are abnormal in comparison to others. To feel like they aren’t human. To feel that they can’t “connect” with society. They don’t know how to interact “properly” with people, because they can’t relate to other’s experiences. Because they have not experienced interacting much with people. Because they don’t know how to relate, they don’t interact much easily. Because they don’t know how to relate, their speech and manner of expression may not be up to standard. They don't know what a “parent’s love” is, a “mother’s love”, or what “love” is in general, because they weren’t exposed to that. This is, most probably, the case with BASIL. Even though he has a grandmother, it’s not really enough. It’s not enough, because it’s not his parents, it’s not the ones who gave birth to him. It’s not the ones who others would say “would love you unconditionally”. It’s not the ones who others would say “would love you the most”.
Considering that it’s his grandmother, BASIL might’ve actually had to tend to himself and mature faster than anyone did. His grandmother is old, and old people do have quite a lot of complications to deal with. Even if they’re healthy, they’re a bit fragile. He might’ve had to run errands for her, do house chores for her, and stuff like that. A grandmother isn’t the most reliable parental figure, because they could fall ill at any moment, they could die at any moment. He probably knows this, actually. If you take the hunter thing as canon, this does kind of add to the… y’know since he does have to see carcasses. We also don’t know if she’s actually nice. We don’t know if she was a good grandmother, we don’t know if she was a bad one either.
… Anyways. All that combined probably makes you think that BASIL would turn out to be a really sad and depressed kid. As in, something like post-incident SUNNY. But… surprisingly, he’s not. He’s happy, smiling, and if you look at the pre-incident art, more than SUNNY (although, SUNNY states that he doesn’t really like to smile in the traditional sense. BASIL sees right through him though, and knows if he’s smiling or not.). He’s smiling more than SUNNY, which admittedly, makes no sense if you take it as something that indicates “Oh!!! BASIL is happier than SUNNY and SUNNY pre-incident is traumatized!!!!” when you consider both of their childhoods. Which brings us to the next point…
THE INSIDE (PRE-INCIDENT) ( T_T)\(^-^ )
While not specifically expressed in canon (SUNNY and OMORI aren’t reliable narrators and their views won’t always be accurate), it is pretty implied that he hides feelings. Probably the most obvious indicators of that would be the fact that he vents to SUNNY, and the existence of STRANGER (who is implied to be the parts of BASIL that Sunny finds “unpleasant” while also being a positive figure and guide to him. Not to say that he dislikes BASIL, but he pretty much has this black and white view when it comes to the world because yeah, he’s young and has experienced a lot less pre-incident) and some parts of BLACKSPACE.
He probably has hid more feelings than the game lets on. Maybe he thinks of himself as “inhuman” and feels “strange” compared to everyone because he can’t relate that well to their experiences with their parents and peers, and uses smiling and laughing as a way to cope and/or cover that. Maybe he thinks of himself as “less”, that sometimes, he feels empty, sad, and even angry, and that’s why he acts the way he does. He involves himself in the activities of the friend group, because he’s so scared of being left alone again. To avoid being forgotten and abandoned, he helps everyone and tries to be the reliable friend everyone needs. Maybe because he’s never been able to make a lot of human interaction, he is the way he is. Maybe, he even exaggerated some of his emotions, for a lack of a better word. He wants to get “in” to the moment, truly feel it for what it is, which leads to his emotions being a mix of genuine and a mix of a slight exaggeration. He feels joy and does feel genuinely happy, but he exaggerates it at times. To him, it will all be but a fleeting moment, and when time comes, the friend group will collapse. He values his relationships with the friend group more than anyone, because to him, they are his true family. He takes photos of them, because he’s afraid to lose them.
Tumblr media
They say, “opposites attract”, correct? Then perhaps the reason why BASIL hangs out more with SUNNY, is because he is the very opposite to him, by technicality. SUNNY isn’t physically expressive with his emotions. SUNNY doesn’t smile, neither does he laugh a lot, but unlike him, But at the same time, SUNNY isn’t empty. SUNNY is so full of life. He is full of dreams, imagination, often good and fantastical. SUNNY has been around people who love and trust him his entire childhood, while BASIL hasn’t. SUNNY has been loved and cherished by everyone his entire childhood, but BASIL hasn’t. BASIL wasn’t as loved and cherished by everyone as SUNNY was. SUNNY had many people care for him before the friend group, while BASIL didn’t. SUNNY experienced parental love, but BASIL didn’t, and will never experience it. In his eyes, SUNNY is perfect, because he experienced what he cannot. Because he is loved by everyone. Because he is cherished, and treasured. He is what BASIL cannot be, and will not ever be. He is the “good person” he wishes to be, yet cannot be.
With that being said, BASIL probably does have trust and abandonment issues that he hid as well. His photo album can be a sign of that. Abandonment issues, caused by his parents leaving and the fact that his grandmother can fall ill / die at any moment, and trust issues caused by the abandonment issues. The photo album is also described as a collection of “things he is afraid to lose”.
He is also implied to be depressed and/or suicidal in a certain incident which will be addressed in the next section
“THE INCIDENT” ∑(゚Д゚)
The incident is a major part of the OMORI story. It is the very thing that serves as the catalyst for all the events ingame. As for this section of the analysis, it will attempt to give a reason—but not excuse—as to why BASIL did what, and what it may imply when it comes to his character. As well as clearing common misconceptions on why a character did certain things and why the misconception is incorrect.
The question “Why did BASIL hang MARI?” is a question asked by a lot of people. The answer to that is… quite simple, and that is because he didn’t want SUNNY to get in trouble, and hated by everyone. “But he could’ve called the ambulance!!! Or even his parents!!!” That is true, but consider, he was in a stressful situation, and he didn’t even know what to do, as witnessing a death of a friend caused by another friend is a hard thing to take. This and the fact that the police and medical services in OMORI FARAWAY seem quite incompetent and/or lacking, considering how AUBREY was able to get away scot-free while having a bat with nails on it. Also, him hanging MARI does also implies that he knows how to tie a noose. While that can be excused as something that comes from gardening, the thing is that. he knows that it’s for suicide, which also in turn, implies that he knows how to commit it. Which is concerning, especially when you take into consideration that he’s a 12 year old, and that it’s pretty rare for a 12 year old to know that back in the time OMORI is implied to have taken place in. The internet also didn’t exist back then, which makes it pretty impossible for Basil to know what suicide is and how to do it unless he planned to do it himself.
A common yet popular misconception in the fandom is that he is the one who scribbled up the photo album, and to that I say, “No, he wasn’t.” It was SUNNY. SUNNY was the one who scribbled up the photos, and BASIL just took the blame so that he wouldn’t get in trouble and be hated by everyone. BASIL actually says that it was SUNNY in an earlier version of the dialogue before the BASIL fight. (SUNNY even takes a step back when the rest of the gang (minus BASIL) hugs AUBREY! Which is an indicator of at least something.
Tumblr media
Another common yet popular misconception is that this is the only reason why BASIL is depressed/sad and that after the game, he’ll go back to being happy again, and to that I say, nope. Absolutely not. It’s not the only reason why BASIL is like that. Even if he healed from the trauma the incident has caused, a lot of his issues are still left unaddressed. The feelings from his grandmother dying, the worsened abandonment and trust issues, the strong yet not acknowledged and repressed feelings from AUBREY bullying him, the feelings from SUNNY leaving him, the feelings from… pretty much everyone leaving him are still there. Him also being suicidal and scared yet again to reunite, because he feels like it will dissolve even faster than before. He’s also still scared that they hate him, and even if they say they don’t, he feels like they’re lying and inside, they hate him and want him to die.
…Also, the incident is not completely BASIL’s fault. He wasn’t the reason why SUNNY shut himself in his room and became a shut-in / hikikomori. And while yes, his SOMETHING is in the shape of hanged MARI, SUNNY became a shut-in / hikikomori due to the guilt of killing Mari, and not because of BASIL hanging her. It’s not BASIL’s fault that SUNNY became a shut-in and that the group fell apart, because the group would’ve fallen apart anyway. It’s just that it’s no longer only SUNNY’s fault that the group did. And even if the hanging didn’t happen, the majority of the group wouldn’t be mature enough to understand the situation fully. We, as the players/readers understand it, because we have almost all of the pieces of the puzzle, but they won’t.
POST-INCIDENT, FARAWAY SECTION (¬_¬)
Before I’d like to start off this segment, what the fandom fails to acknowledge most of the time is that BASIL is 16. He’s not a crybaby. He’s not scared of everything. He’s not a scaredy-cat. Most of those assumptions come from the fandom’s inability to recognize that BASIL has suffered as much as SUNNY and AUBREY have. He is as pained and hurt as them. He was hurt and in pain because of them, too.
The first time we see BASIL, we see him asking for his photo album, but getting bullied and getting told “no” instead. This makes a pretty bad first impression to younger fans and illiterate fans, and because of that, he is often watered down into this “uwu coward soft boy who cries a lot”, which he isn’t. He may seem like it, but he isn’t. The second time we see BASIL, he is at the old hangout spot, and calling for help. This… actually does imply a lot of things, one of them being suicide. He might’ve came there to die in a place where he missed, to look at the place one last time before he would commit suicide, but he was stopped by the hooligans. which most likely bullied him (even though they say they didn’t). And the last time, the sleepover, he either kills himself, or stabs SUNNY in the eye due to hallucinations and stress.
The BASIL we see here, in Faraway, is a more broken version of BASIL. He still acts and hides feelings—or at least tries. It’s not as effective as before. One thing I’d like to point out is the fact that we never really actually see BASIL do anything connected to his past interests. While yes, his photo album being missing may be a part of it, he doesn’t really take photos anymore. We don’t see him taking care of his flowers, either. Maybe he could’ve lost interest in it, as a result of the incident. One POLLY line actually does say that he stopped taking care of his flowers completely at some point before the game.
Tumblr media
BASIL probably doesn’t eat much. We don’t see BASIL eat the food in the time SUNNY and KEL were in his house. POLLY does state that he’s been going to the bathroom a lot, too.
Tumblr media
That aside, let’s get deeper into it. BASIL, in faraway, is most likely at the lowest point of his life. He had to see his friends leave him one by one (even KEL! even HERO!), and have one bullying him. He no longer has an outlet for his extremely bottled up emotions. He doesn’t have anyone, and his grandmother fell ill as well. POLLY is also paid to be there for him too, which means she doesn’t really count as someone he has. She isn’t close to him, either. She isn’t as close to him as the fandom makes her out to be. She cares, yes. But she isn’t close to BASIL at all. She does say it as well
Tumblr media
The reason behind why BASIL stabbed SUNNY’s eye was because he was hallucinating, and not because he actually wanted to stab SUNNY. He stabbed SUNNY’s eye because he thought his eye was a part of SOMETHING (that… he is implied to hallucinate heavier for whatever reason), and not SUNNY. Although, it’s not completely all because of that, it’s a key part of it. His repressed anger and hatred, him being genuinely upset, as well as his desire to protect SUNNY from SOMETHING—a thing that he genuinely and wholeheartedly believes is real and something that exists in reality—is also a part of it too. This part does not mean that BASIL put his selfish desires first, this does not mean that BASIL puts his desire to keep his best friend above SUNNY’s safety. This doesn’t mean that he’s only concerned with what SUNNY can do for him and not concerned with what is best for him. BASIL was going through a breakdown, so a lot of the things he says are in this confused state where he doesn’t know what he’s feeling, what is really happening, and isn’t thinking clearly. BASIL is not doing all this with a clear head and mind. Both the safety of SUNNY and not wanting SUNNY to leave are both on the forefront of his mind, it’s just that, because of the overwhelming stress and the fact that his thoughts aren’t that clear, his method and way of protecting SUNNY is a bit “confusing”. He cares, he cares for SUNNY’s safety, but in this context, the “normal” way of caring doesn’t apply, because the situation isn’t really normal to begin with. The part where he states that he’ll end both of their pains (by murder-suicide) is most likely out of stress, because his situation is extremely stressful, and it’s sad that nobody recognizes it.
He also does use toxic positivity, saying “Everything will be okay…” even if it won’t. It’s just… less recognized.
POST-INCIDENT RELATIONSHIPS & WHAT LIES BEYOND (・・?)
BASIL, post-incident, probably also does have a lot of hidden feelings as well. This time, feelings like anger and even hatred towards his friends, an intense and deeper emptiness, and a lot more worsened negative feelings are added to it.
BASIL still thinks of himself as “weird” compared to everyone else in the friend group, especially after the incident. He feels inhuman, even worse now because if people knew what he did, he knows that they would think of him as a monster and someone unforgivable. He knows now that what he did could be considered inhuman, and feels regret for it. His problems have been intensified, his mental health took a nosedive, and so much more.
With that being said, deep down, maybe he did resent SUNNY. For leaving him when they promised that they would be there for each other. For leaving for 4 years and making him bear the brunt of the judgment. For leaving him when he needed help the most. For leaving him and letting him take fault for something he did (blacking out the photos). But he can’t help but still love him through all of that, whether you take it platonically or romantically. They are tied by a string of fate, they will find each other no matter what, and will try to forgive themselves and each other. The path to recovery is laid with hardships, and complicated feelings. BASIL and SUNNY are each other’s weakness, but each other’s reasons for going on. SUNNY’s desire to save HEADSPACE BASIL that carried on to the FARAWAY BASIL, and BASIL’s desire to see SUNNY again, if only for a while. It is not only KEL who helped SUNNY stay alive, but BASIL as well. Even if BASIL thinks that he’s too far gone to be found, if he’s someone who cannot be helped anymore, SUNNY still tries to help him. SUNNY wants to help him. It is not BASIL that forces him to, but SUNNY’s own desire. BASIL doesn’t force him to, he asks him to, but not force him. SUNNY is doing it on his own accord, because he wants to help BASIL. BASIL understands SUNNY, and SUNNY understands BASIL, both on a much deeper level than anyone else. They have hurt each other, yes, but everyone in the group has hurt each other at some point. They are each other’s triggers, but they are also each other’s sources of comfort. They are why they were able to face and accept the truth of the accident and incident. It is because of each other that SUNNY was able to accept that MARI died, and that SUNNY was the one who was at fault when it comes to MARI’s death and the accident. Even if SUNNY lost his eye because of BASIL, it is also because of BASIL that he was able to remember and face the truth of the accident and incident.
Now, to AUBREY, deep down, he probably resents her too, possibly much more than SUNNY. One thing that I’d like to mention is that bullying is, in fact, a form of abuse. I’m not calling AUBREY an abuser, but she did do fucked up things. She was a horrible person, but she wasn’t evil. He’s not calm because he understands, he’s calm because he thinks the one at fault. He thinks he deserves it. He understands, yes, but that’s not why he’s calm. He’s calm because he genuinely thinks there’s something wrong with him, and that he’s the one who needs to adjust. People who get bullied tend to think that there’s something wrong with them, that they have to be the one to adjust, especially if said person was close to you before it. Some don’t realize it’s bullying either until they reflect and think more about it, especially if they were once a friend, or a family member. Technically, what she did Is abuse, since bullying is considered abuse. It doesn’t matter if it was verbal abuse at first, it still counts as it. Verbal bullying is STILL bullying, and it is also still abuse. It’s a pretty gray area when it comes to AUBREY, because I don’t want to be too harsh and call her an abuser, but yeah. In terms of forgiveness, words and feelings don’t matter without actions, much like how actions don’t matter much without the words, which is why AUBREY does need to be treated a bit harsher by the fandom, since the bullying isn’t something you should brush off when it comes to analyzing BASIL’s character. Forgiveness from BASIL will take a long time, it’s going to be a rocky road for them to be even comfortable with each other, for BASIL to not flinch every time AUBREY tries to get close. To not feel uncomfortable whenever she even gets close. Which is not a thing that is acknowledged when it comes to BASIL.
Onto KEL. I think it’s pretty clear that KEL and BASIL haven’t interacted much before the 3 days left. KEL even acts surprised about BASIL being there, with this line.
Tumblr media
While there isn’t much to say about them, BASIL might’ve resented him too, just not as much as SUNNY and especially AUBREY. KEL left him too, even if KEL mentioned that they wouldn’t really respond, it doesn’t stop BASIL from feeling that way. Maybe he would’ve resented the fact that he seemed to prioritize SUNNY over him, maybe he would’ve felt like he was less important to the eyes of KEL. And while yes, this may not make sense to us players/viewers because we know why KEL is knocking, BASIL doesn’t know. The mind is both rational and irrational, after all. Even if another person feels something, it does not stop someone from feeling, well, another thing. BASIL most likely doesn’t know if he should resent him or not, he knows that it might be because SUNNY’s house is marked “for sale”, but he wishes the same effort was spent for him, as well. He might’ve felt like KEL prioritized him the least, he might of thought that KEL sees him as “less”. Keep in mind, his feelings and thoughts are not necessarily true, so these aren’t facts. KEL does care, but it doesn’t stop BASIL from feeling like that. (Just thought I had to make that clear because some people might take this wrongly)
BASIL and HERO… There isn’t much to say about this segment. While it’s understandable that HERO left because of college, sometimes he does resent him for leaving like everyone else. He resents all of them for leaving, some even more because of certain factors or actions. But…
BASIL still loves all his friends. He does. He cherishes them all, but he can’t help but feel that way towards all of them. He can’t help it. He feels disgusted for feeling that way towards all of them, he feels disgusted for feeling negatively, but he can’t help but still feel it. No matter how much he tries to tell himself he doesn’t deserve to feel like that towards his friends, to think negatively of them, he will always feel these things deep down.
POST-TRUTH REVEAL FEELINGS AND POST-GAME SPECULATIONS (´ー`)
Post game, a lot of BASIL’s problems go unsolved. He isn’t exactly portrayed to have reconciled with the rest. While yes, you can take the “Let’s make new memories together, okay?” line as BASIL wanting to make new memories with his friends, it’s DREAM BASIL that says that, and he, despite looking like FARAWAY BASIL, isn’t BASIL himself, so that isn’t reliable. His grandmother, his only source of comfort for those 4 years also dies, leaving him with someone who he isn’t sure he can trust due to her being there because of a job, and obligation. All that combined does just feel like instead of getting better, his problems will just fester into something worse. He’s basically alone as well. Even more so due to the reactions to the truth. SUNNY left yet again, he took the brunt of the reactions, he isn’t close to the friend group, he is still suicidal. POLLY isn’t someone who is a mother figure to BASIL. She isn’t even close to him. He doesn’t even feel comfortable with her.
… That’s not saying that the friend group won’t try to get closer to him again, because yeah, they do have a chance to try to get closer to him, it’s just that BASIL’s issues and problems go unresolved because he probably wont open up to them for a while, or even open up to them at all. His problems still aren’t solved, either. Yeah, sure, he might admit some things, but they won’t be the closest anymore. It’ll probably take a very long time for BASIL to even warm up to them again. Might even take 2 years. Maybe he even tries to be more like himself pre-incident because he perceives it as a way for him to be redeemed in their eyes, but because of that, he hurts himself even more. He wants to be himself around everyone, but maybe he feels that “himself” isn’t who they want.
This part is mostly just speculation, although it is something that should be acknowledged more. His problems are still there, and even if you give him therapy, his problems will still be there, therapy is not something that solves your problems, it helps you until you can deal with it. It is not something that will magically make you emotionally intelligent, but more of something that helps you identify emotions better.
CONCLUSION ☆彡
Overall, I think BASIL is the character least talked about in this much depth, and often mischaracterized along with HERO and MARI. Many people fail to recognize that he’s also as tragic as SUNNY AND AUBREY are. Many people fail to recognize that his issues go far beyond the incident as well. Not a lot of people recognize that SUNNY’s issues and trauma isn’t worse than BASIL

Omori observations 10
Artics
Tumblr media
Found a guy who knows Hero!!
Things hero is meant to be:
Caregiver (hot diggity dog)
Protector (mountain)
Saint (goosey)
Now i want to go to the pinwheel platform
And follow those red footprints for good
Ortès
Poems in the fog is a weird track. It feels like it is building up to something that never happens, constantly going back to the beginning (like headspace i guess), and it has an irregular, hesitant rhythm, sometimes going adding extra beats for no reason. It feels like it has some urgency to it, a weird urgency that slows down randomly.
The place had some urgency  the first time i saw it (in trevor’s treefort playthrough)
But it is a weird place. It has the most important letter in the hangman, the one that allows a player to guess the message as early as the prologue if found, but that isn’t obligatory in the plot and might be missed until the very end. And it has kind of nothing else?
Spaghetti which aren’t that important as an item, completely normal bunnies, a mari picnic and a boss i won’t fight today, and that’s about it. This isn’t a lot! It’s pretty small too, especially compared to orange oasis… it doesn’t even have different trees from the main forest!
Red footprints are gone.
Pujòu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is going on?
Got a daisy from daisy. Daisies are one of the eight flowers that are relevant in this story, and they’re the one whose fan interpretation diverge the most as no canon meaning is given. However it’s also a pretty good item and i will equip it on omori asap.
Or maybe Kel.
Tumblr media
Dude your sister is about to rope Aubrey into hitting you repeatedly with a baseball bat.
Tumblr media
Come on
Tumblr media
I like how that’s the moment they pick to play cards
Tumblr media
For as much as sunny probably doesn’t like to admit it, they are.
Time to go fight Space Boyfriend!
Well once i’ve switched trains of course. Seemingly i’ll have to wait over 20 minutes in Dacs
Dacs
Ok so first i find this interesting
Tumblr media
it’s a first hint that their relationship was more than rocky.
Also, not only Kel is not following the conversation, but no one is paying attention to what he is doing at all.
Tumblr media
Time to discuss my idea i guess
I think that although Headspace is avoiding touching on the elephant in the room, as a dream it will end up surfacing Sunny’s more palatable worries and anxieties. And this dream in particular seems to bring up a lot of elements of Sunny’s home life. A home life marked by divorce or breakup, moving (the cardboard boxes having the same text as the ones in Sunny’s actual home).
i’m not sure how much Spaceboy and Sweetheart are meant to be a 1:1 representation of Sunny’s parents (i don’t really think they are, if anything they might be switched gender-wise with Spaceboy being the one left behind). The space pirates staying behind doing chores has a parallel with Sunny doing the same for his mother.
And the junkyard is littered with objects that seem to come from Sunny’s memories. Just like the house may be.
i’ve drawin attention earlier to the fact that the scary stairs are not the real stairs, or at least not the modern ones. But because they’re also filled with boxes, they might have looked like that in real life as recently as a few months ago.
I admit it, Spaceboy being a representation of Sunny’s mom is something that i came up with right now in the train. Because i don’t believe she’s that well adjusted anymore. How could she be?
Of course that doesn’t excuse the leaving Sunny home with absolutely no food, but it could explain it.
Might be a galaxy brained idea but let me cook here.
Space Boyfriend’s Tape - I want Nothing More might not be sung by Sweetheart.
Tumblr media
He changed hair color. He had his little transformation scene under his bedsheets. And the space pirates just ran away really fast.
Tumblr media
He says, while clearly not in his NEUTRAL state
Morcencs
Trouble - NEVER/ALWAYS is probably the missing theme for what’s coming
Tumblr media
Aubrey has absolutely no reason to intervene here as always. She still does it because she likes starting boss fights.
You Were Wrong. Go Back - alright: we’ve got the 3BL ostinato (minor key) mixed with a motif from Trouble, and together they make most of the prologue, before we switch to the Stardust Diving melody. Surprisingly, nothing from Lost, then Found.
i’m afraid Spaceboy will be a little too easy to beat
he’s already furious there’s no way i’ll get to use the special attack this time
Tumblr media
Back to redhead.
Tumblr media
This would have been much funnier if i had stabbed him.
Such A Time We Had Together is a track i find kind of underwhelming. It sounds like a very modified, almost wrong version of 3BL, too major to sound good.
Spaceboy’s ambivalent attitude towards the mixtape is also something that feels relevant wrt the main plot, but i’m not sure how.
Tumblr media
Also the Earth is gone for good.
Tumblr media
Yeah put a pin in that description
Aubrey should cry more so Spaceboy would give her more free stuff.
Wet pillow time:
Tumblr media
Interesting
(also i know i’m being a completionist but i might have missed another letter hole earlier)
Tumblr media
She plays Lost at a Sleepover kinda hesitantly
Tumblr media
He plays GOLDENVENGEANCE without hesitation
Tumblr media
He plays his piece, which doesn’t really have a name.
i’m under the impression that all of them had music lessons earlier. Well Aubrey is the only one for which this might not be canon.
Space pirate Amigo just fell asleep.
Time to go save. I won’t follow the footprints right away but still
Also it’s pretty clear Hero is not seeing what we are seeing.
Biganòs
Tumblr media
Sunny’s oversleeping.
I plan to wake him up at some point!

My biggest gripe with Omori, made all the more painful through replaying, has got to be the absolute *drudgery* that is the combat system in the Real World. The fun and interesting emotion system completely falls to the wayside, even though changes in emotion *are* technically present. It's just that they don't really influnce anything, so it's kind of pointless. No fun ability moves or anything, you're just spamming attack over and over again, whittling down enemies that have way too much health considering that they don't have any phases, special moves, or anything.
The only fights in the Real World in which this boring combat style works in the game's favor is with the first fight in the Real World with Aubrey in the park, and the second Aubrey fight in the church. Both cases are because of the thematic elements that are being subverted and explored, accordingly. In the first fight, it's wonderfully brilliant, because the player goes into the fight with the preconceived expectations of Sunny's imaginative dreamscape only to realize that, oh- Aubrey actually got cut from Sunny swinging his knife at her? Oh my god, this is an actual fight... with consequences. This is real. It walks you through Sunny's likely feelings of disorientation and dissociation. It doesn't overstay its welcome outside of the point it's trying to make- I quite like it.
And when it comes to the church fight, the atmosphere is great. The brutality of the normalcy, of Sunny and Kel just hitting and throwing shit at Aubrey while littered with nasty dialogue from the churchgoers- it stings, and it sucks how they're doing this boring, pointless fight-meets-public-humilation because why are we even fighting? We're supposed to be friends.
All of the other fights in the Real World, though? Ugh. There's no atmosphere, the repetition is a slog, and it's like. C'mon, guys. It feels unfinished. There were absolutely better ways to introduce, explore, and get aid from the Hooligans. I think doing mini side quests for each of the Hooligans in order to get information about Aubrey would have been WAY preferable than this. Then you could've had, you know, more meaningful environmental storytelling and dialogue to explore each of their personalities and stuff instead of just hitting them for a few minutes.
I'm also reminded of my other disatisfaction with the Hooligans in that, outside of Aubrey, they mainly feel *silly,* not really like any particular threat they are assumed to be. Like, we can assume they engage with and/or are complacent with Aubrey's bullying, and are otherwise the "bad news" that Kel considers them to be. However, with the way that most of them are OUTWARDLY PORTRAYED as just silly, quirky guys with the most heinous crimes involving shoplifting candy, I have a really hard time holding disdain for them at any point in the game- makes Kel just seem like the guy who hates the nerdy kids at school lmao.
In my fantasy universe, each of the Hooligans have their mini side quests that give little hints of their lives as troubled teens, make them a tad less cartoony, and maybe imply something about the atmosphere of Faraway as a whole.
Mikhael is from a strict, religious family where he's a black sheep that acts in outlandishly showy ways to express autonomy while also denying his authentic self. Kim and Vance are children of divorce, or at least have separated parents, with a father who doesn't seem to have his head screwed on all the way, while their mother is a super orderly neat-freak. Charlie is a super withdrawn youngest child of several siblings- her parents are aging and she aids her mother in some level of medical caretaking. I don't even know where Angel's parents are- he just lives with his older sister.
So like, see what I mean? There was groundwork laid- I can see stuff that might give these kids a chip on their shoulder that we could dive into more, but they just kind of act goofy and unbothered when they're not being dicks to Basil, and so it's difficult to fully subscribe to this idea that I ever saw them as an antagonistic force. Aubrey's really the only one wearing her 'misunderstood antagonist' hat loud and proud. Her back must hurt from carrying all that hardass energy for the rest of the Hooligans.
#I dunnoooo man#I just think a little bit of cleanup couldve been done to make aspects of the Real World segmemts feel more fleshed out#I've never understood people that say Headspace is filler and their favorite parts were the real world sections#yes the story is good and all but sir Aubrey's church scene and the Basil fight are not the only things in the Real World#in between that there is some uninspired padding unfortunately#whereas Headspace even with the stuff that may *seem* like padding at first glance- is packed with symbolism parallels and potential#implications about Sunny's outlooks about the world at large at every turn#I love every part of Headspace- top to bottom- yes even Humphrey and the endless dungeon of Sweetheart's castle#it's colorful-wonderful- often laden with tones of unease and jolts that catch you off guard- and is ultimately so stimulating#I can fully feel and understand that- aside from the obvious grief and guilt making it hard for Sunny to live is life-#it is so appealing to choose his illusions and imagination over the dreary real world of suburbia. it feels like a loss to reject Headspace#and so while I wouldn't want the Real World to be *sooo* cool as to draw away from the important element of sympathizing with#Sunny's loss of his fantasies- I think they could have leaned into the depressing dreary elements that could have been more prominent#in the real world- dreary/upsetting- but engaging. bring to light all of the more minor strains of reality and socialization#that makes people like Sunny want to run away from it all and live in a more friendly quirky world in their own minds#do you see#do you see my vision#the Real World is too *nice*#make it meaner!!!#omori

Y'know I think part of the reason OMORI fans forgive Sunny for killing Mari and defiling her memory so easily has something to do with how Mari isn't fleshed out enough as a character for her death to be felt.
The game's narrative mostly defines her by her role in the story and in her friend group. She's the archetypal Team Mom, she's "the glue that holds everyone together", she's the best match for Hero since he's the Team Dad, she's a perfectionist - which is largely a perfunctory "flaw" that's present only because Sunny needed a reason to kill her and set the story in motion - and she's the bestest big sister to ever big sister, to the point most of her character revolves around her little brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's known that making a fridged woman too good for this sinful earth is a very common writing "shortcut" to make the fact she's dead more tragic. If you want an example, you wouldn't even need to look further than the game OMORI has apparently drawn direct inspiration from - Mother 3 shows Hinawa as a loving mother and wife before killing her off right in the first chapter. What marks Mari as different, however, is that most fridged women usually die due to an external circumstance the male protagonist had no control over - in OMORI, the protagonist is the one responsible for the woman's death, and the game's intent is to convince the player he should be forgiven for that. (It fails.)
A huge difference between how Mother 3 and OMORi handle Hinawa and Mari's deaths respectively is that the former shows the impact of Hinawa's death by showing the impact she made on the villagers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine if something of the sort was the case with Mari, too. Imagine if she had a personality and a life beyond being Sunny's big sister and the Team Mom. Imagine that instead of the group simply sighing that they miss her a lot, you could talk to, say, the owner of the town's dog shelter, who'd lament Mari's "suicide" and note she was a volunteer at the shelter, and that a dog that liked her stopped eating for a week or two after she passed away. Imagine Hero having to hurriedly walk out of a store because it is playing a song Mari loved. Imagine Kel making sure to always have the friendship bracelet Mari once gave him on his person and then freaking out when he accidentally loses it. Imagine if Mari's loss was a palpable, inescapable force, and we could feel it.
But it is not. The most the game shows in terms of that is the shallow platitude that serves as her gravestone's epitaph.
Tumblr media
Of course, I myself can't say whether Mari being so flat as a character was a deliberate ploy to keep Sunny palatable and sympathetic, but it sure is very convenient. After all, the game is all about Sunny and how you should forgive him. And that'd be way harder to do if people were given a solid idea of what everyone lost when she died, wouldn't it? :)

Omori-inspired undertale au where toriel takes a role similar to sunny/omori, the fallen children take on a role similar to headspace hero, aubrey, and kel, and chara + asriel take on a role similar to mari
Would be called: "a mother's dreams"

OMORI "Everyone Lives And Everything Is Okay" AU Idea
A fairly simple idea in the form of Mari never getting a leg injury. Mari's still portrayed as her loving and forgiving self (because what the fuck is wrong with some people in this fandom?) and everyone is much happier here in comparison to canon.
Because Mari never gets hurt and is happy with playing sports, she's not that burdened (if at all) by perfectionism. Her father and mother are happy that she's making her choices and having fun, so things are (atm) peachy.
However, because of Sunny nearly drowning, she is (understandably) a little overprotective of him and her friends. She feels bad, because she thinks she's possibly being overbearing, but she just can't lose her brother and friends.
Sunny still idolizes Mari a little, but it's more subdued and not nearly as bad as it was in Headspace. Unlike Mari, he does not take up sports, instead focusing on art, which Mari is thrilled by as she admires her brother's immense creativity.
The parents also believe that this will improve Sunny's mental health, which it does. He still has a fear of heights, spiders, and drowning. He does struggle with frustration regarding art-block (understandably).
Aubrey's family life is more or less similar to canon. Though Basil's family adopts her, which makes them closer. Not sure Aubrey would follow Mari's path of sports, but she WOULD be tempted.
Honestly, Aubrey's always the hardest to figure out a career path, imo (outside of starting with odd jobs to help Basil and Polly and find her place in the world). She and Sunny would likely get closer too, though maybe not to the romantic level just yet.
The Hero, Kel, and Sally fam is kinda obvious. I do think Hero would take up culinary, despite his parents' wishes, and would encourage Kel and Sally to follow their own dreams.
Kel would likely take up basketball in response to his brother's encouragement. Not sure what Sally would take up or a career path, as she was only a baby in game.
Basil would likely have similar struggles as he did in game, but not as bad…? He would have a bit of frustration towards his parents, who (if speculation is correct) have been away for most of his life.
He would still be a florist. I'm NOT sure if he should have a crush on anyone, as I'm not sure if there should be drama for this AU, though he would still have some form of his attachment struggles.

Shitty parents in omori - Aubrey
Character/story analysis
Throughout omori we meet the parents/guardians of Kel/Hero and Basil, but we barely know anything about Sunny or Aubrey’s parents. In this analysis I will be focusing mainly on Aubrey’s parents, and how they have effected her in the long term/the way she is in the real world after sunny reunites with Kel. I might make a follow up talking about Sunny’s parents in the future.
Many people headcanon that Aubrey grew up in a strict or abusive household, and it is even slightly implied. It is also implied that she grew up in poverty, based on the rugged state of Aubrey’s house as we see it in the game. One thing we DO know about Aubrey’s parents is that her father left after her death. At first I wasn’t sure if this was cannon or just a head cannon, but after some digging I found out that it was actually mentioned by one of the church goers in the church scene. The state of the house and the trash littering the sides of the house could be because her mother slipped into a depression after her husband left, causing her to be unable to take care of her daughter and her house. In the game, kel also states that he does not remember ever going to play at her house. This could be because of her family’s state/her parents fighting all the time, leading up to her father leaving. She probably did not invite her friends over because of this. Because if her parents constantly fighting they may have also neglected household chores, causing her house to be a bit of a mess. We also see a stop sign outside of her house, which could be a metaphor for how she never let anyone inside

In Basil’s photo album we see that Aubrey is close friends with everyone in the main 6. She was probably especially close to Mari, seeing her as some sort of older sister/motherly figure, especially because of her poor family life, Making her death even more impactful on her. Dealing with the death of a close friend AND her father suddenly leaving was probably very difficult for her, especially since her mother was dealing with the absence of her husband at the same time, and was likely unfit to take care of her daughter. Because Aubrey had no one to turn to, and no where to let out her feelings in a healthy way- she became violent. And this is why she acts the way that she does when we see her in the real world
these are 2 official arts of Aubrey and Mari. One was from Aubrey’s birthday animation, and I THINK the other one was from a birthday drawing of Mari. We see Aubrey wearing Mari’s old clothes. This is official art but technically it’s not cannon in the game I guess ?? But it still implies that she was very close to Mari and her family, close enough to be gifted Mari’s old clothes. We don’t know why they would gift them to her. Maybe in attempt for Mari’s parents to move on from her death either to forget about it, or just to move on in general and not to keep grieving the past. I am leaning more towards the first one based on what we’ve seen from Sunny and Mari’s parents throughout the game and how young she looks in the drawing/how soon it was after Mari’s death

This next part involves both Aubrey and Sunny: WHY DID NEITHER OF THIER PAREBTS PUT THEM IN THERAPY???? This is the main thing that sort of confirms that they both have neglectful parents. I understand that grief can change a person and it can be very hard to seek help and try to move on in a healthy way- but not getting help for your children ??? That’s crazy It’s completely understandable why Aubrey acts the way that she does when she quite literally had ZERO support, not even from her friends as they were all also grieving, and the friend group drifted apart because of this. It makes sense why she’s so angry at her friends, she felt as if she was left alone when she needed help the most. Grief/the loss of a loved one in general can change how someone may act, but it ESPECIALLY can effect someone’s personality if they do not get the proper help they need.
This last part is a bit off topic, but I thought it was an interesting parallel between Aubrey and Sunny. Sunny “accidentally” ousted Mari down the stairs in an argument and Aubrey pushed basil into the river when she was angry.
If you made it so far thanks for reading !! If you have anything to add or if you’d be interested in a sunny version lmk !!
