li xiangyi slumps onto the sofa burying his nose in di feisheng's shoulder with a tiny sigh. "i think he's finally asleep," he says, sotto voce, and di feisheng lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

neither of them had known what they were getting into when they agreed to take in the recently departed shan gudao's hitherto unknown child, but the rambunctious six year old had rapidly disabused them of any notion of quiet or easy. he's a cheerful child, despite his circumstances, and while li xiangyi wasn't prepared for the level of care he requires, he's determined to raise him properly. di feisheng has never seen himself as a parent, but he couldn't let the child just be shuffled into the system after a lifetime of escaping it himself.

"hopefully he stays down for a while," di feisheng says, curling his fingers into the short hairs at the nape of li xiangyi's neck, but he's not too optimistic. nine times out of ten xiaobao wakes up in the middle of the night and demands to be let into their bed. the effect on the previously vigorous sex life of two healthy young men goes without saying but di feisheng finds himself worrying about xiaobao's nightmares more than anything. he doesn't talk about them to either li xiangyi or himself, but they're working on getting him into therapy.

li xiangyi makes a soft noise and then then shifts to tilt his face up. "kiss me," he says, as imperious and endearing as the day they met, and di feisheng snorts but bends to comply. they kiss lazily, indulging in this little pocket of time they have to themselves, li xiangyi practically melting into it. it'll be bedtime for adults sooner rather than later, but neither of them are under the illusion that they'll have time for much more than this.

there's a cry from xiaobao's room just as li xiangyi slides his tongue between di feisheng's teeth and they both freeze. di feisheng withdraws with a sigh, pressing his forehead to li xiangyi's for a moment. "i'll get him," he says, and li xiangyi gives him another quick kiss before moving away.

di feisheng levers himself off the sofa, traveling to xiaobao's room with quick steps. li xiangyi hears him murmuring quietly to their nephew and sinks back into the cushions with a sigh. his family is complicated, but di feisheng is with him and li xiangyi has never met a more tenacious man. they'll be okay.

Once he was off the country roads and could get a signal again, Xichen called Sizhui to let him know, "I'm bringing a guest back with me." He could very nearly hear Sizhui blinking. "From Carp Manor? Is Ms. Jiang visiting? I can make up the guest room on the ground floor so she doesn't need to manage the stairs, if that'd help." "Not Ms. Jiang, no, although that's a very thoughtful offer. I, ah." Xichen paused, trying to figure out how to phrase his request, while in the passenger's seat next to him Meng Yao's eyes watched with some interest. The rest of him was mostly a vaguely humanoid cloud, which he'd said was the easiest visible state for him. "I need you and Jingyi to take down the spirit exclusion wards. We'll put them back up when I arrive, but I'll need to add in some exceptions." More audible blinking before Sizhui replied. "You're…bringing home a ghost, aren't you." "Very perceptive of you, Sizhui." "Thank you, bobo, but I wouldn't really say so? It's just sort of the fashionable thing now, all of the best exorcists are friends with ghosts. Or. Whatever Mr. Wei is." "I think he's currently insisting on 'eldritch horror.' In any case, please take down the wards, I'll introduce you when we arrive."

Would you ever write self-insert?

I mean, isn't all fiction ultimately self-insert?

But if you mean would I write a story where a middle-aged nerdy Danish librarian starts hanging out with our more ferocious iron age ancestors or random superheroes & villains or ancient fantasy!Chinese sorcerers? Probably not. I don't even do much in the way of OCs.

Of course, this is writing we're talking about. Let's not talk about the stuff that doesn't ever make it out of my brain and onto paper.

@omgpurplefattie suggested: How about NMJ hauling both Nice Huaisang and Meng Yao around over his shoulders?

Huasing was supposed to be tucked into Mingjue's side but it messed up the composition. I imagine that would upset him, so I left him out. Also tried to go for a more sketchy style, not obsessing about details too much. I think it turned out quite nice!

Anyways -as I was drawing I imagined some unrestrained summer fun for these two in Yunmeng's lakes. I am not saying it would fix them but I am sure it wouldn't make anything worse at least!

I remember thousand autumns also had an actual event. I know mlc has the ranking but yeah it seemed more like an assessment of martial artists in the wild rather than an actual competition. poor di feisheng, the man needs a proper event to prove he's the best but hey if you can't make your own, fighting your rival on a romantic boat cruise store bought will do

I haven't made it through the whole show yet but I'm just so curious how di feisheng ended up as the leader of the bad guy alliance. like yeah, he doesn't give a crap about other people and he's certainly not a nice man. but also. this is not a dude who wants to take over the world, this is a guy with a burning desire to place first at the national martial arts competition that (unfortunately for him, and tbh everyone else) doesn't exist.

This was born of watching episode 38 a few too many times. Something about the way that Shan Gudao threatens to drive Li Lianhua to his knees... 😏 Thus this fic. XD Enjoy? ^_^

Detailed warnings: As I noted in the tags, this is a YMMV dubcon situation. Li Lianhua has been fantasizing about Shan Gudao since he was very young and it's his idea to drop to his knees and offer the blowjob, and it's Shan Gudao who initially hesitates. Li Lianhua is most enthusiastically into it. But he's also chained up in Jiao Liqiuao's dungeon and Shan Gudao has life-or-death kind of power over him in this instance.
