This whole thing about scanning your face to prove tour age is making me remember, in 2018 while out in paris we got our wallet stolen during a particularly busy night at a lesbian bar. It was very late and with no money to buy metro tickets we were effectively stranded, but some people helped us and we ended up staying the night at a really sweet older man's place. His face was deeply scarred and he was missing an eye. We chatted on our way and he told me about his life, probably to help calm me down. He explained he had been stuck in a house fire 20 years ago and had had multiple rounds of facial reconstruction and a skin graft, but there's only so much surgery can do so he just learned to live with it. I remember he said he liked the queer bars because they're the only place people don't really stare at him.

At some point I took out my phone, and at the time I was using face unlock. This prompted him to tell me all the ways this technology doesn't work on him. How his phone selfie camera doesn't focus right because it's not detecting a face. How he had to update his ID the old fashioned way, because the website kept rejecting his photos. And how it was becoming more and more common, and how it was making his life way harder.

This was 7 years ago, and now whenever I see this sort of technology I think of how that guy can't use it. And how house fires are pretty common, and how anything from being born this way to a skin condition to heavy tattooing can probably cause the same issue. Can these people get age verified ? Will they just lose access to all social media, which are increasingly necessary in society, if this becomes the norm ? These are people who are already driven out of public spaces due to how they look, and they're getting pushed out online too all in the interest of companies wanting more money.

Things I have learned from my wife getting into doll collecting:

I was reading something about Whitestown, Indiana and my eyes nearly popped out of my head thinking it was one of THOSE comically racist towns. Nice to know, at least the name, wasn’t that.

i post in a few communities focused on helping people identify ai-generated images and something i'm noticing a lot is how many people are paying for a "business logo" and receiving an ai generated image.

y'all, even before generative ai, if a business logo is commissioned, you are owed at the very least a raw .psd file. standard practice is to provide a vector image, because a logo needs to look good at several sizes, but a raw editable .psd is the bare minimum. receiving a .jpg or .png is not accomplishing the directive of providing a logo, at best you are receiving a logo concept.

maybe tumblr isn't the right audience for this but i have to vent my frustrations here because this is a scam that could be avoided just by people understanding what it is they require. you don't even have to be good at telling if something is ai or not to avoid this problem, because ai cannot vectorize or provide layers! aaaaghh!

I need to know what writer decided on the scene where when llh is imprisoned and jlq brings him an outfit to wear from sgd and it's just his old iconic lxy fit. And he wants him to wear it during the culmination of his grand plan and when he executes llh. Like actually insane HELLO??? I have a lot of issues w how 2 dimensional some of sgd's characterization is but damn...ok...

Idk it's also a rlly good bit of symbolism w how ppl in mlc r obsessed w ghosts. Sgd never moves on as much as wants to make it seem like he did. He's equally haunted by the specter of lxy. Insane. INSANE

okay okay here is the THING about shan gudao that was driving me feral today. the first half of the series we see shan gudao through li xiangyi's memory, and he's the noble kind righteous shixiong. he was his saviour. li xiangyi had everything in life and he threw it away without a second thought just to avenge shan gudao. he only lived through the next decade to find his body. he was very clearly intending on going and lying down in a grave after finding that body, if di feisheng hadn't stopped him. can you imagine loving someone that much? but it's a love based on li xiangyi's memories of being 20.

and then we meet shan gudao again and he's a fucking toxic jealous loser and we have to re-evaluate everything. and it's also 30 yr old li xiangyi re-evaluating all his teenage memories. and that's very All Too Well 10 minute version bc what older woman doesn't think back to the cool older man they dated as a teenager and realise that he was shitty the whole time?

and shan gudao dressing li xiangyi up in his red robes and wanting him to kneel at his feet (yes he canonically said that, it is burned into my mind forever, please send help) - it's controlling and awful, but it's also shan gudao taking the happiest memory of li xiangyi's life (establishing sigu sect) and directly ruining it. it's him saying that ruining your life wasn't enough, i have to ruin your memories too. i need you to understand that i have always considered you beneath me, and i need you afraid and kicked down and useless. real older man dating a younger woman and being angry when they cannot be easily controlled and manipulated vibes. it reminds me of people i know who got knocked up at 20 and dropped out of school and ended up being stay at home wives with 5 kids and no financial freedom. that's what shan gudao wants for li xiangyi. his potential ruined, his body beaten, his freedom removed. so many people are just angry at li xiangyi for succeeding, for just being himself, and they destroy him for it. and that's part of the tragedy.

shan gudao and jiao liqiao have very similar abusive dynamics - that's what jiao liqiao wants for DFS as well. they both want to forcibly malewife the protags. (it now occurs to me that princess qianqian is an inversion of this bc she... lets fang duobing go. but that's a discussion for another day)

but the point is: shan gudao (and xiao zijin) cannot let go of the memory of li xiangyi bc they are controlling losers who have no talent and know they will never be as great as him, so all they can do is ruin his life and legacy. li xiangyi has the most rabid haters of all time
