What I've Been Dealing WithI formatted my C: drive, then I had password troubles, and during that, I migrated from Capacities back to Obsidian. It's been a crazy month! Here's my chats with #CoPilot about migrating. I wanted to connect a local AI to Obsidian and Capacities doesn't let you.🗂️ Can You Drag the Folders into Obsidian? ✅ What You Can Do - Drag and drop folders directly into your Obsidian vault (e.g., `C:\Obsidian`). - Obsidian will recognize `.md` (Markdown) files and folders immediately. - Folder structure will be preserved, and links between notes (if they’re in standard Markdown format) should still work. ⚠️ - Non-Markdown files (like `.json`, `.png`, `.pdf`) will be imported but not rendered as notes. You can still link to or embed them. - Internal links from Capacities might use a different format (e.g., `[[Note Title]]` vs. `[[note-title]]`). You may need to run a find-and-replace or use a plugin like Markdown Link Converter. - Tags and metadata might not carry over unless they were written in YAML frontmatter or inline (like `#tag`). 🛠️ Tips - Create a temporary vault to test the import first. - Use Obsidian’s Graph View to explore how your notes are connected after import. - Consider enabling plugins like:  - Dataview (for querying metadata)  - Tag Wrangler (for cleaning up tags)  - Templater (for standardizing note formats)Dragging Capadonkey Into Obsidian [bonus section] Me: I got halfway through typing this title and it struck me as hilarious! Let me know if you want to add speech bubbles, a desert backdrop, or maybe a cheering Obsidian mascot in the corner. 😄 Me: Make the logo a circle on the donkey and put the fake windows icon in the sky. Add a desert scene. CoPilot: I’ve added the Capacities logo as a circle on the donkey, placed a fake Windows icon in the sky, and set the whole scene in a desert. Let me know if you want to turn this into a comic strip or add a caption like “Wrangling My Workflow”! 🤠🪶 [He didn't put the Capacities logo, I had to get that on my own. Also, he misspelled things. I ended up replacing the background he gave me and all the text in Canva] As you can see, it's prompt and correct until you get what you want. I decided to go with my background I did in VUE 2024 and made some changes, adding some highlight on the cowgirl and facial features on my cartoon. Keep in mind that AI generated art is unusable on your book cover. It’s not copyrightable. So if you use AI to generate art, it’s great for a blog post, a YouTube video, or something that’s not going to directly make you money. But if you work with a publisher, there’s that checkbox that makes you legally certify that you have or have not used AI to generate your work, including the cover. I never use AI to generate artwork for a book cover unless I’m willing to spend hours in GIMP altering it to my art style.

However, the thrill it gives you to see that scene in your mind come to life is a great feeling! I recommend using AI art to visualize your scene while writing it, to help you describe it better. And, if you want to blog about it, there’s your visual to go along with your post! Just look carefully at your AI generated graphic to make sure your character doesn’t have 6 fingers or added details you didn’t want.

For example, the interior added an arch in the left wall and a square window to the back wall. I specified one square window and one rectangular door, and they showed with the door on the front, and the window on the left, which would not have shown in the interior pictures. The one that showed the blue obsidian tray added another tabletop on the floor, which wasn’t what I wanted, either. The countertop provided is too crowded to roll out dough or hold the obsidian tray. The adobe oven showed in the final outside picture, but is too small. I write about them being as tall as the trader (average height 5′5″ and stocky].

The adobe oven is in the right place, but tiny and without the obsidian door.

The trader is perfect. The only thing to add is the Tessite trim on his robe’s borders. Tessite looks like gold, but it makes a person strong while he’s near it. Unfortunately, once he waved his fine robes into his alt storage in his pocket coin terminal, he’s going to feel very weak. He better be lying on his straw when he does it!

In my description I tried to get the man-sized adobe oven, but the longer your convo with the AI goes on, the more it hallucinates and the quality degrades. I was tired, so I didn’t start a new convo and all the explanations again. But when you start a new convo you can provide the best render and tell it what you want changed.

I could have provided the AI with a graphic I created in VUE 2016, but I didn’t. It’s probably already scanned into everyone’s AI because I’ve posted my artwork online, but just in case, I really don’t want to feed my artwork into a public AI. I’m looking into adding art tools to my personal AI. All the ones so far have to use an online generator because my PC is not powerful enough.

Offline uses of AI I’m looking into that keep my work local on my machine are, tying AI to my Obsidian notes, connecting AI to LibreOffice, using an addon to connect yWriter’s character, item and location forms to LibreOffice, which I can suck into Obsidian, all sorts of ways to use my personal, local AI to search my notes for me and help me organize my writer mess into productive goals and record what works.

A troubled veteran attempts to forget the past by volunteering at Patriots' Point Naval and Maritime Museum, but it proves difficult when he's close to the plane that changed his life forever--the Corsair.

It is the well-written story of Bill and his struggle with his disabilities long after the war ended. I cried at many points in the book, which is a testimony of this talented author's way with words!

Both my parents served in WWII in the Navy, so this story had a lot of meaning for me, though Bill flew his Corsair during the Korean War.

I love history, but this family-friendly story is for anyone who loved a grandparent. The interaction between Bill, his grown #adopted #daughter, and the #dog they happened to find as a stray will probably remind you of someone. The emotional journey is intense and real.

I'll be thinking about this story for a long time, and look forward to the sequel!

I'm #Building and #Training My Own #AI

I'm building and training a personal hashtag#AI, using a hashtag#software called hashtag#AnythingLLM. With it, I can download any free, hashtag#opensource model I like, hashtag#nocoding required. I'm using hashtag#Chroma, a free database with good capacity. Now I can load my 650+ stories into Chroma, a process called embedding, and I can ask my AI questions about my characters, settings, and more. Since it's hosted on my PC, I don't have to worry about my data getting read by online AIs or chunks of my stories showing up in someone's AI answer.

I did this and I’m very happy! Right now, I’m putting all my 650+ stories in my private AI so I can ask it questions like, which documents have x character? Finally, a way to get info on my characters and settings!

There is a learning curve involved, but I am getting up to speed with AI at the same time, which will, hopefully, help my computer skills and make me more employable for our move overseas. It’s also great fun! Do read some articles on prompting. As you work with the AI, you will learn what it can and can’t do.

Remember, a chatbot can’t read your docs and answer questions about them. An agent can. An agent can surf the web and find sources for your research. This allows you to fact-check the answers you get because any model can hallucinate. You can minimize that by learning how to prompt. The best way to learn to prompt is, get in there and use your models! I suggest downloading many and see which ones are better for what purpose.

My characters are never recognizably real people I've known. They are always from an idea. Perhaps a line of dialogue that made me think of something else. Or a mannerism I liked. They spring forth anew with a bit of deep reflection. Some are people I'd really love to know and find it hard to let them go to write another book!

Original characters are really just a random assortment of personality traits and physical features taken from myself, from people I saw on the street, and from my favourite characters from other people.
