NaNoWriMo Day 1
Picking up a wip that you haven't touched in a while is kind of like going to a party with very extended family members that you only see once a decade or so. Like, yeah, you know everyone and you have a vague idea of who they are and what they do and some of the major events in their lives... but also who the fuck are you I don't know you.
Rabbit holes I fell down:
What is a bitch name? What name evokes the feeling of just KNOWING ahead of time that a person would be a bitch? (I ended up choosing Tiffany)
Flower language and name meanings (of course)
How to kill a nymph
Can silver and iron form an alloy
How to walk quietly
Cute cat videos (aka ollie gets distracted for half an hour)
How long does it take to have heatstroke
Can you get burns through clothes if something is hot enough
"What happens if you heat up blood... no not in your body... yeah if you boil it like what texture would it be afterwards" (I am going to be on a watchlist for this)
Can you actually crack a safe by listening closely
Trying to understand the cochlea and by extension the entirety of the ear for a short scene just to see if the science would work out... in a story about magic
Word count: 3276
#me @ nathan: oi hurry up and rob these rich people i want u to have friends#nanowrimo#writing problems#i guess#wanted to finish chap 1 but i had homework#so sad#olliesupdates#nano2022#nano#the skittle kids#it's not the name of the story or anything#my best friend came up with it#and i was like#ur so right this is so based#it's so c u t e#those kids do be skittle colored

WC: 2.5k (long winded girl, I know)
Plot: They share stuff and it changes how they see things. Connection ensues.
CW: Mentions of death, illness, hospitals I guess, violence.
a/n: Hello y’all. This is part two of whatever the fuck is going on inside my pea brain. Hope you enjoy.
Part one, the meeting.
Two; It’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
She laughed at the awkwardness of the text and the perfect grammar Dr. Spencer Reid maintained while texting. Ollie made a mental note to care a little more about the phrasing of her own texts, especially considering the circumstances. To say she wanted to impress him was an understatement.
“Good, germs are yucky.” Sent at 7:45 am.
“Also, hi. Good morning” Sent at 7:45 am.
Good morning? Too much too soon? She fell victim to her overthinking for at least twenty minutes after sending her last text, realizing she had to slowly build up the courage to ask about the next time they would be seeing each other, which apparently would have to wait, since Spencer had an inconvenient schedule and could be out of the state in a matter of 20 minutes. Ollie exhaled and stood up from her awful office chair to go and make herself some coffee, hoping to stop her mind from reeling and sending her into her usual never-ending pit of despair and anxiety that came with stepping out of her comfort zone.
A ping echoed in the room and her screen lit up, displaying a text from the one person she had been thinking about. Ollies mother would be crying laughing if she saw the state she was in, positively losing hair over the fact that a cute, smart, witty man was texting her back. A man she had spoken to for the first time not even 24 hours prior.
“I’m a nice person, I’m funny sometimes, I offered him coffee.” She whispered to herself, rationalizing every aspect of their interaction. “That’s how friendships start” She laughed bitterly. “I’m here… freaking… wishful thinking, and maybe he has a significant other… maybe he doesn’t even like women… maybe he just thought I was nice and he thought ‘yay, a new friend’… fuck” she plopped herself back on the chair and threw her head back.
Lia would have known what the right thing to do is, she would come up with a cool thing to text back on the spot, and she resented her absence like she had a million times before. Ollie had gotten used to writing her letters like her best friend was living somewhere else in the world and she would eventually read her friend’s attempt at keeping her updated, which she knew was not healthy and definitely not helping her move on.
The thing is, Lia’s death was not a surprise at all. It was a possibility to the point of actually being expected. She had been diagnosed as a terminal patient for a little over a year before she passed and almost everyone around her had made peace with the fact that she could go any day and that life would have to go on without her, but no amount of grief counseling and encouraging talks with Lia’s family could have prepared her for the unimaginable pain Ollie felt when it happened. She had heard about experiences that made the world turn upside down and how some life events made you go numb and make your legs give weight, but had never come face to face with a happenstance that painful.
She figured she was going to have to carry the burden of her loss till the day she died, and even then, the words “I missed you, till the very end.” would be carved in her grave.
Coming back from her spiral, she remembered how she fell down the rabbit hole in the first place. She took her phone with the intention of texting Spencer back and smiled at how stupid she had been to worry about seeing him again.
“Hey, arrest made successfully. Are you busy right now?” Sent at 7:57 am.
Sighing with relief, Ollie smiled and tried to sound casual with her reply as to not sound like seeing him again was the only thing she had been thinking about.
“I’m the boss, I can un-busy myself. Why? Were you charmed by my Keurig?” Sent at 8:00 am.
Spencer was not the kind to send sassy texts, or any text for that matter. This was completely new to him and he was determined to get it right, so he channeled the Derek Morgan that lived within him and prayed to whatever deity was looking out for him to make him sound cooler than he was feeling.
“I’m a sucker for coffee so, yes.” Sent at 8:05
“I’m a sucker for you, apparently” Ollie nearly screamed at how quickly that came out of her mouth. “Fucking loser, dear God” She shook her head, scolding herself and whatever hamster was in charge of her brain and thought process.
“Mi oficina es tu oficina, then. I’ll be waiting.” Sent at 8:07
Twenty minutes later, he was there, coffee cup in his hands. After what felt like no time at all, they were four coffee cups deep into their conversation and had learned a lot more about each other. Turns out Spencer had a day off after they landed from an away case, he had a thing with germs, his favorite color was purple and his co-workers were more his family than just the people he happened to work with. He liked a bunch of sugar with his coffee and had an eidetic memory that was as much of a blessing as it was a curse.
He was impressed at how this girl was not what you would expect her to be, every aspect of her seemed to make no sense and at the same time, it made perfect sense. This purple haired girl had ADHD and a PhD in history, she was the oldest daughter of two of the most stubborn Mexican immigrants and had a sister that made even the most patient of humans go mad. She loved music, and was not ashamed to admit that her taste in music was far from sophisticated. “I am Taylor Swift’s bitch; I know the words to every single one of her songs! Same goes for One Direction too” She argued when Spencer said that it couldn’t be that bad.
A blaring ring halted their conversation to an unexpected stop. Ollie picked up the office phone with an annoyed grimace and exchanged a few words with whoever was calling.
“Hold that thought, I have to go sign a thingy at the front desk” She dashed out of her office and left Spencer there.
For the first time, he felt compelled to look around and fixate on the details. There were a few old looking pictures and some newer ones with people who looked a lot like her. There was one picture that caught his attention, isolated from the rest like it deserved a spot of its own. In it, there was a red-haired girl that looked around Ollie’s age, one of her arms around her waist and the other one cradling her head that was laying on her shoulder. Ollie’s eyes were closed and the red head looked like she was caught mid-sentence. Stuck to the frame was a little post it note that read “I love you, head ass. -Lia” It looked intimate, they were clearly comfortable with that kind of physical affection, and if Lia hadn’t called Ollie a head ass in the post it, he would have assumed they were together romantically.
Ollie came back in a hurry, apologizing for having to run out like that and sitting back down to resume their conversation.
“It’s okay, don’t worry” Spencer assured her. “I was looking at your pictures, I hope you don’t mind” He said, suddenly very aware of how invasive that could be.
“Not at all, those are there to be looked at” She shrugged, bracing herself for the question she knew was coming. Somehow, talking about Lia with him did not feel as dreadful as it had all those times she was asked about it before, perhaps it’s just him and his calming presence.
Sure enough, he pointed at the picture Lia had framed for valentine’s day and asked, “Who’s that?”.
“That’s Lia, she was my best friend. She is my best friend.” She smiled fondly, something that had never happened before when talking about this specific topic. Maybe sharing Lia’s memory with someone who didn’t know her was different. “She passed away almost a year and a half ago. 468 days ago, to be exact. She was really sick, it was inevitable” Ollie let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding, reaching for the post it and tracing the words over with her finger.
“I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine how hard that must have been”
“It was… heartbreaking. Even with all that time we had to process the news, it still took me off guard.” She shook her head trying to ground herself. “Anyways, that’s a sad topic. I don’t want to bum you out with it.”
He knew the feeling all too well, he had apologized to several people when he rambled about Maeve, feeling like he had said too much and gotten too personal. He was not about to let this beautiful, vibrant soul feel the way he had for so long. Like he still did, truly.
“Don’t apologize, I get it. You’re not making me sad” He felt like he needed to elaborate to actually convey the message. “I went through the same thing with someone I loved too” he said, looking down at his hands, the very familiar feeling of oversharing creeping in. As he looked up, he noticed the sad look Ollie was giving him, but if the profiler in him was right, she was inviting him to share, not to stop.
“Her name was Maeve. She… she was a geneticist. She helped me through a rough time and she became my friend. It’s a long story…” he looked away.
“I want to hear it, long or not. But only if you want me to.” She gave him the warmest smile she could muster, which convinced him to keep going.
“Um, I started getting some headaches a while ago. I went to a few doctors but none of them gave me an answer. I reached out to Maeve for help and… We bonded, I guess.” He took a shaky breath.
“You don’t have to continue if you feel uncomfortable” she whispered in the most delicate tone.
“No, it’s not that. It’s just… I’ve never told this story before. Everyone in my life that I care about was there to see it.” He said, meeting her eyes so she could see how honest he was being. The man got a hold of himself for a minute, and continued.
“Maeve had to go into hiding. She was being stalked by some woman she met at work. Beyond talking on the phone, we hadn’t even met. I had no idea what she looked like and vice versa. This girl, the stalker… She wrote a paper, and Maeve dismissed it because it didn’t have a good enough foundation. When she started stalking her, she scared her into hiding and eventually started dating her ex-fiancé to try and get closer to Maeve, assuming he knew where she was. They ended up finding her and confronting her. She shot herself and the first person I ever loved. Right in front of me and my friends. The first five minutes I got with Maeve face to face, were the last.”
Baring his soul to a person he had known for a whooping 18 hours was the weirdest thing Spencer had ever done, so unlike himself it was almost funny. But at the same time, he felt like it had to happen. By no means did he believe in fate or destiny, but this one moment made him feel like maybe whoever does believe in that stuff, is not completely wrong.
She was not a therapist. She listened because she was going through a similar thing herself and her interest in Spencer’s loss was not rooted in psychoanalyzing him and helping him cope. She was just a mundane human that did not look at him with condescension and pity, she looked at him like she, too, had found a person who wouldn’t ask her “And, how does that make you feel?” in a monotonous voice. They both knew better than to assume they had all the answers.
“Spencer, that’s horrible. I am so sorry you had to see that. Jesus, fuck. I- “She thought about her next words very carefully. “That’s enough to crush anyone’s spirit” She looked at him like he was turning green. The reason being, he did not look like he was crushed. He had a beautiful smile that shook Ollie to her core, he was easygoing and conversation with him was carefree and it flowed easily. If he had not told her about Maeve, she would not have guessed the man sitting right in front of her was as affected as her.
“How did you manage to get through that?” Ollie questioned, fully intending to take notes.
“I don’t really think I have yet…” Well, time to come clean. Spencer thought. “The whole reason I was here yesterday, and a lot more times before that one, is because she and I talked about this museum. She told me about some conferences she had attended here and we made plans to visit together. Doesn’t quite sound like someone who’s over the whole thing.” He fiddled with his fingers, suddenly too aware of how cold it was. “How did you get through Lia’s death?”
“Yeah, well. I don’t really think I’m quite there either. Not like I’m trying, anyways. I can’t seem to get away from the Grey Roots either” Mental images of two little kids running around with dusty books in their hands came to her and she couldn’t help the small smile she broke into.
“I’m a hopeless romantic at heart, I have always thought that the way Lia and I found each other was pure magic. We met when we were in the second grade, right in this museum, we were on a field trip and we clicked. It was crazy to me that I actually met my best friend at such a young age, and the kind that lasts forever too. It sounds like when people meet the love of their lives on their first try. It sounds dorky, I know”
“It doesn’t. If anything, it sounds like you consider yourself lucky to have loved her like you did. We need more people like that, people that believe in magic.” Spencer reassured her with a shrug. He wished he could believe in cute stuff like that, but he was happy Ollie led a life that made her believe.
“Yeah, but us crazy people, we get our hopes up too easily. Sometimes it hurts.”
“Tell me about it.”
And just like that, in the not so well-lit office of the head Conservator of the Grey Roots Museum and Archive, something in the world had shifted.

The day had been a whirlwind of emotions and Olivia was glad to have some quiet time to herself to think. She couldn’t deny that the urge to try and fix things with Ollie was strong. But she knew Aiden was right, she would only make it worse. And besides, she trusted him to sort it all out.
Trust. There was that word again. And Olivia smiled as she remembered Aiden telling her that he trusted her. That she had earned it. And that he was on her side even despite everything that had happened between them.
It had felt good to hear him say those things. Almost as good as the way he looked at her as he said them. She knew he meant it. But there had been something else in his eyes, too. Something still unspoken. Almost as if....
No. No! That was crazy. And she wouldn’t let herself go down that rabbit hole. There was only pain and regret there. She may have earned some trust back from him, but to think that he would ever want to be with her again was madness. She may still love him, but too much had happened to ever dare hope that he would ever feel the same.
They had formed a good friendship and were rock stars at the co parenting thing. That would have to be enough. She didn’t deserve more and someday she would make peace with that.
Wanting to get her mind off the regrets of her past, Olivia turned on the television and watched some news. But soon, the events and stress of the day overwhelmed her. And she curled up on the couch and fell asleep.

Chapter 26: Point of No Return, Pt 2
When they arrived home, they found their kids and Emma watching a movie together, though it seemed like Emma wasn't able to pay attention to it. So once they dished out the ice cream for the kids, they joined Emma in the kitchen for hers.
"What's going on?" Margaret asked.
"It's a lot…" Emma replied.
"Which is why we brought all the ice cream. Come on...let's have it," David said. She sighed.
"Killian and I got a call this morning. They specifically wanted me on the case, because a passenger was on the roof of a building, threatening to jump," she revealed. Margaret gasped.
"Oh Emma…" she said, as she reached out to squeeze the blonde's hand.
"His name was Felix," she said, as David pulled him up on his tablet.
"He kept saying that people around him were dying and that it was his fault," she explained.
"You think he was having Callings?" David asked. She nodded.
"But he wasn't dealing with it well...and so when we talked to the bartender at the bar he frequented, we found out that a couple people that also frequented the bar recently died," she replied.
"That seems like more than a coincidence," Margaret mentioned.
"That's what I said. One was a heart attack and the other got hit with a stray, fallen power line. But it turns out that...Felix may have told both of these people about the Callings," she said, with trepidation.
"You're sure?" David asked. She nodded.
"Were you able to talk him down?" Margaret asked, but the raven haired beauty frowned when the blonde shook her head.
"No...he was convinced that he was the reason they were dead, so he ended it so no more people would die because of him," she said, as a fear tears fell from her eyes. They both got up and put their arms around her.
"I couldn't stop him…" she cried.
"Emma...that's not your fault," David stressed. She sniffed.
"I know...the bartender says that even before the plane, he wasn't a well adjusted person," she admitted.
"So getting Callings probably pushed him over the edge," David reasoned.
"That's not why I'm so upset…" she said.
"Then why are you?" Margaret asked, as her blue eyes met her green ones.
"Don't you see, MM? People around him that knew about the Callings died!" she exclaimed and then tried to lower her voice so as not to freak the kids out.
"You know about them...Killian knows and Olive knows!" she fretted and David got a very worried look on his face at that.
"That doesn't mean something bad is going to happen to us," Margaret reasoned, as she looked at her husband.
"David...that's not what this means," she insisted.
"And I want to believe that...but if you're in danger, because of the Callings…" he said, as he trailed off. The thought of that made him want to scream at the sky and plead to whatever force this was that it could not take her from him. It could not.
"David...you are not going to lose me," she insisted.
"But you lost me…" he said. A tear slipped down her cheek.
"I know...and it was the worst five years of mine and Ollie's lives. But now I know that we had to endure that...we had to in order to save our son from cancer," she replied.
"What if we're wrong? What if these Callings aren't doing the good we think they are?" he asked.
"But they are...we can't deny the good things that have come from them. We have to take the bad with the good," she insisted.
"I don't know, MM. There will be no good if we lose someone we love," Emma said.
"I know...but I also know that I'm supposed to know about the Callings. I can feel it," Margaret said. David sighed.
"She's right...and I would have never been able to keep secrets from her. It's just not how we're wired," David assured his sister.
"Maybe for you guys...but Killian and I are not together. If he's not supposed to know...and he dies, because of me, I can't live with that!" Emma said in exasperation.
"Lily died because of me...and now Killian might as well!" she exclaimed.
"Lily's death was an accident and you know that if you had let her drive that night that you would both probably be dead," David reasoned.
"He's right...and cutting Killian out now could be more dangerous. If you tell him that you suspect he might be in danger, at least he'll be aware and then he can make his own decisions," Margaret insisted.
"I don't know…" Emma fretted.
"Honey…" Margaret soothed.
"I know that you still love him...and I can't imagine what it's like to not be able to be with him," she said. Emma looked at her and hugged her gently.
"I love you, but you're right...you don't know what it's like. I'm glad you don't though," Emma said, as she went down to her room. Margaret put a hand to her heart, as she watched her go. It wasn't often that she wasn't able to comfort her best friend and she felt terrible about it.
"I wish we could help her with this," Margaret murmured, as she felt her husband put his arms around her from behind and kiss her hair.
"I know...but I don't think we can. Killian is married and you and I don't really have advice for this kind of situation," he said.
"God...if you were married to someone else, I think I'd lose my mind," Margaret lamented.
"I don't even want to think about being married to anyone else. That sounds like a nightmare…" he said, as she turned her head and he kissed her tenderly. She turned in his arms and slipped hers around his neck, as he kissed her deeply and passionately.
"Kids...it's time for bed. You have school in the morning," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. They joined hands and tucked their children in, with goodnight kisses. Then with purposeful strides, Margaret led him to their bedroom and their lips crashed together again once the door closed. They gasped for air, as their lips parted and they purposefully started undressing each other.
"What you went through...I'm still in awe that you did it. I'd never be strong enough," he rasped, before their lips met again.
"You are...you're my hero. You were still in my heart...I could still feel you, even though my brain told me it wasn't possible. But it was…" she said, as their lips met again.
"It was...and I'm in awe of you. But then I always have been," he confessed. She sniffed.
"And you've always been my Prince Charming...my hero," she gushed, as he swept her into his arms and deposited her on their bed. She pulled him down onto her and their insatiable, endless passion consumed them.
~*~
Emma found herself unable to sleep that night, so when she got the call from Killian, she was almost relieved. Until she arrived at the Rabbit Hole, only to find the bartender on duty that night...dead. It wasn't Will Scarlett that they had talked to earlier, but the night shift bartender.
"How did it happen?" she asked, as she arrived at the bar and observed the sheet that had been placed over the body, inside the storage room.
"Bartender came back to do inventory and the shelves collapsed. A large crate full of heavy glass bottles fell on him," Killian replied.
"Any chance he'd been talking to Felix before he died?" Emma asked.
"Uh...yeah, apparently they were friends," Killian replied and Emma sighed.
"That's it...I can't let you in on this stuff with the Callings anymore," she said.
"Emma...I already know, so cutting me out doesn't make sense," Killian reasoned.
"It does...because if you don't know anymore, maybe whatever this is won't see you as a threat," she said, as she walked away to start working on the report. He sighed and waited for the Coroner to arrive. He knew that he shouldn't care about being close to Emma. He was a married man, after all. But ever since Emma had been back, he found that his feelings for her had never truly gone away and he wasn't sure what he was going to do about it.
~*~
The next morning
"Did you have enough to eat, sweetie?" Margaret asked, as she was extra fussy over their son that morning.
"Yeah Mom...I'm stuffed, really," Henry replied, as he went to get his shoes on.
"Okay...if you're sure. Oh, I packed your lunches," she said, as she retrieved them from the refrigerator. David and Olive shared a smile.
"Mom...he'll be fine. I'll make sure he gets to his class okay and then we have the same lunch, so he can eat with me," Olive said. Margaret sighed.
"Thanks honey...I'm just so worried about him adjusting or people bugging him about being on the plane," she replied.
"I'll be fine, Mom. I know lots of kids are going to stare...but I really want to go back to school," Henry said bravely. Margaret hugged him again.
"Okay...and I guess Ollie will be near too so that makes me feel a bit better," she said. David smiled.
"Grab your stuff and I'll drop you both off," he said, as they got their lunches and headed out to the car, while he took her in his arms and they shared a passionate kiss.
"Have a good day," she said.
"You too...and if that reporter dares to show his face again…" he started to say and she kissed his cheek.
"You'll be my first call, my love and then Emma," she promised, as they shared another kiss and parted ways for the day.
~*~
David finished entering the newest stack for his boss and looked around, before accessing the UDS file again. He likely knew his time was now very limited. They would soon find out that the leak they had was coming from this accounting department, but he was determined to do whatever he had to in order to find the right building where he knew they were holding the missing passengers against their will. He noticed though that only five of the six possible locations they were looking at were in the system.
"That's it…" he realized, as he identified the one that had not been uploaded. Either they were slow in getting it into the system or this one was purposefully being kept off the books. He logged out and then stood up. He knew he likely had to get out now and even then, there was no guarantee they wouldn't come after him. But for now, he'd give them the slip.
"Hey…I finished those files for you, but I'm not feeling so well," David said, as he placed the folders on his boss' desk. Doc put his hand up.
"Say no more...whatever you have, no one wants it. Take a sick day," Doc said. David nodded and then slipped into the elevator, knowing he would likely never be back here.
"Vance...I think I know which building they're hiding the passengers in," he said into his phone, as he got into the car.
"I warned you not to go back in," Vance said in exasperation.
"I know...but I noticed that only five of the six newly purchased properties had been uploaded into the system. Either they're late or one of them is being purposefully delayed," David replied. There was silence on the other end, but he heard Gold in the background.
"That's good work...probably saves us days of searching," he mentioned.
"Stay out of this," Vance said.
"Send me the location," he said.
"I'll text it to you and I'll meet you there," David replied, as he hung up and smirked slightly, knowing that Vance was probably cussing him out right now.
~*~
Henry looked around nervously, as he held his lunch in one hand and milk in the other. So far, despite a few stares, his day had been good so far. His teacher was nice so far and hadn't made any fuss about the plane. Some of the other kids whispered and none seemed to want to talk to him yet, but he knew that would probably change. At least, he hoped it would. He saw Olive waving him over and he walked quickly to her table and sat down there. He recognized a few people, Nicholas included, that he and Olive had been friends with in Elementary school. They had grown though, while he was still ten. It was awkward at best.
"At least some things don't change. Still peanut butter and strawberry jelly," Nicholas mentioned fondly.
"And you're still eating bologna and cheese," Henry noticed.
"Uh bologna," Olive complained.
"She still hates bologna," Nicholas teased.
"PB and J will always be superior," Olive said.
"Agree to disagree, but you two always had the greatest snacks. I mean, my chips are good, but your Mom makes homemade stuff all the time," he said.
"And she knows you like brownies too, so she packed me an extra one," Henry replied, as he offered it to him. He smiled.
"Thanks…Olive never parts with any of her sweets," he said.
"Damn straight," she agreed, as she bit into her brownie and they laughed and continued to talk. Despite their friends all being older now, he found himself getting on well with them.
~*~
Margaret sat at her desk, grading papers during her free period and once she got through the stack, she checked her phone and smiled at the text from David. It was a quick one, telling her that he had found something and he was meeting Vance and that he would call her soon. As she was about to text back, she looked up and noticed Sidney Glass in her doorway.
"Oh my God...you don't know how to take a hint!" she hissed, as she pressed a button.
"Please Mrs. Nolan...I mean no harm and I truly believe you deserve to have your story heard," Sidney said.
"And I told you that my story is one of a love and intimacy with my husband that is unlike any other...but it's for us. We don't want or need the scrutiny of others. We had plenty of that growing up," Margaret replied.
"That is why this is such a unique story and one that should be told. Childhood sweethearts, real life true love that defied even death to reunite!" he said grandly.
"But true love doesn't sell newspapers. Scandal does and that's what you're truly interested in, so what is this really all about?" she asked, as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Is it so hard to believe that I find your story fascinating?" he asked.
"I know our story is unique, but most people want to focus on how young David and I were and how irresponsible they think it was," she replied.
"True...but I find your family history fascinating too. I mean, you have to admit that it is very intriguing that your mother's once rival ended up marrying your father years after her death. And then add all your strife to be in a serious relationship so young, coupled with the plane and you have the stuff that daytime soaps only wish they had," Sidney pointed out. She looked at him with scrutiny.
"Wait...my mother and Cora weren't rivals. They knew each of each other, but not well. My mother never mentioned Cora and Cora said that they were aware of each other, but not much more than that," Margaret said. He raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Because that is not what my research has turned up," Sidney replied, as she cautiously came closer to him.
"What research?" she asked.
"I can't just show you my research," he replied.
"I have a detective cop sister-in-law on speed dial and a husband that would love to punch your lights out," she reminded him.
"A very good point…" he said, as he showed her an old article on his tablet. It was a picture of her parents with Cora and a man that she assumed was Regina's father.
"They ran in the same social circle...and your father chose to marry your mother over her," Sidney revealed, as she scanned the article.
"Can...can you send this to me?" Margaret asked.
"Certainly…I am sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but it seems that Cora was not fond of your mother and always felt slighted by her. Now, I hope you and your husband will reconsider an interview for my article," Sidney replied, as he sent it to her with the email provided and quietly left with a smirk on his face. He now knew that Margaret would likely lash out at her father and new step-mother again. Either way, he would definitely get a story on her and Cora would be very pleased.

David and Emma arrived on the scene and spotted an unmarked utility van in the vicinity. The side door opened and they slipped in.
"Is this the place?" Emma asked.
"We weren't sure, until Dr. Jenkin himself stepped out five minutes ago. I think it's safe to say that we have the right facility," Gold said.
"Then what are we waiting for?" David asked, as he was anxious to go in.
"Not yet...if we don't do this right, the whole thing could easily blow up in our faces," Vance replied. David wanted to protest, but knew he was right.
"Well, I can go back to the station and dig up dirt on this Jenkins guy, unless you've done that already?" Emma asked.
"We haven't," Vance replied, as he looked at Gold.
"Why not?" David asked.
"Because I don't trust the NSA or rather everyone in it. If a search on Dr. Jenkins is registered, someone may tip him off," Gold replied.
"You think you have a leak inside?" Emma asked.
"As much as I hate to think about it...yes. A search by the NYPD would most likely go unnoticed," Vance replied.
"I'll get on it," Emma confirmed.
"So what now?" David asked.
"We wait for the right moment. For now, you go home and be with your family," Vance replied. David nodded and didn't protest at that, as he followed Emma back to her car.
Dr. Jenkins pressed the end button on his smartphone and observed the newly set up operation from the floor above. He had just informed his contact that they were set up in their new facility and were almost ready to begin again. Marko winced in pain, as they began to get him ready for more experiments and across the city, inside a house, Henry Nolan winced in pain as well...

[purple heart] how did you first hear about vtubing? [brown heart] who do you most want to collab with?
My FIRST exposure was Kizuna Ai way back in the day, for about two minutes I thought she was an actual AI lol. I kinda forgot about the concept for a while and then I fell down the Hololive rabbit hole at the start of the pandemic. Two of the pins on my hoodie are for Korone and Miko, you can blame them. Collabing is a tough question! I'm not really there with anybody yet, and a lot of people I really like are probably just too big for me to catch up to, so I will go with the ridiculous longshot approach and pick a corpo instead of my real answer. In which case....I feel like I could vibe with Kureiji Ollie OK!

I’ve wanted to go straight down the Harringrove rabbit hole of shipping, ...
... but I tend to prefer to be all-in-or-nothing-at-all when it comes to blogging in fandoms for things I really love, hence my never blogging about “Stranger Things” before, even though I binge-watched the first season soon after its release and fell hard like the rest of the world, with ‘all-in’ meaning checking certain tags daily, making, and reblogging, GIFSets, and just spreading memes and musings. I knew to be kind of intimaded by this fandom, but, now that I’m seeing there is a consensus that Harringrove isn’t just a crack!ship, ...
Fuck it ...
Hi, I’m Kaile, and I’m a Harringrove shipper!
The fact that I ship them will not shock my followers. Literally every other non-already-established M/M that I have gone down with have beaten the hell out of each other/been violent towards each other/one canonically had violent urges towards the other at some point save for a select few. Examples of the norm in my shipping habits being:
Toby and Chris - “Oz” being the first, and undoubtably, most severe example
Brian and Justin - “Queer As Folk (US)”
Luke and Reid - “As The World Turns”
Olli and Christian - “Verbotene Liebe”
Roman and Deniz - “Alles was zählt”
Craig and John Paul - “Hollyoaks”
David and George - The War Boys
Lenny and Carsten - “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten”
Christian and Syed - “Eastenders”
Ian and Mickey - “Shameless (US)”
Agron and Nasir - “Spartacus”
Marc and Kay - Freier Fall and soon Freier Fall 2
Robert and Aaron - “Emmerdale”
Deran and Adrian - “Animal Kingdom (US)”
Pree and Gared - “Killjoys”
Chiron and Kevin - Moonlight
Philip and Lukas - “Eyewitness (US)”
... And still feel like I’m leaving a considerable few examples out (all of my stronghold M/M ships are canon, and, thus far, endgame, so you should check the above out if you’re hungry for ships that can take a beating so to speak).
This will my first pre-canon-for-now (do not toy with me, Duffer Brothers, too many others have led me astray with false foreshadowing and suggestive subtext that wasn’t even at all subtextual) ship in a long time, so it’ll be interesting to experience the prolonged wonder, anticipated, and instant excitement if they do deliver on this not-yet-gauranteed hypothetical.
Please, Duffers, I beg, bring on Billy being responsible for Max, or his might-be-telling clear obsession with Steve, get him wrapped up in the war with The Upsidedown, and have them be babysitting secret (being real about what time period the show covers and in what state it’s placed) boyfriends together!

Did I finish my paper abstract with no sleep? Yes, yes I did. Are there word errors? Most definitely. But here it is.
From April 5th to April 23rd, 1815, Mount Tambora in present day Indonesia erupted, bringing about unseen erratic weather patterns across America that is remembered as “The Year Without A Summer.” However, it was only one of many influences that exacerbated a fragile economic system. This paper analyzes the series of environmental and economic crises faced in the early 19th century and the political response made. Additionally, I use primary source documents from the Benjamin Tallmadge collection, to synthesize a first hand account of the economic, social, religious, and political environment. While this is a very narrowed perspective, his expertise as a businessman, Western Land speculator, bank president, and his time in office as a Connecticut representative to congress provide a unique understanding of impacts of the economic and environmental disasters. Furthermore, the use of a first hand narrative and a historical narrative show how the combination of these factors set the stage for a societal shift and change that brought upon Jacksonian America.

Must Reads Part 4
Sorry for the late posting. This week has been fairly crazy for me. And I’ve been addicted to Horizon Zero Dawn lately. This week contains the everyday life of a super girl, music that can summon monsters, cloning, toys that come alive, and much more.
--A Song for Quiet (Persons No Grata #2) by Cassandra Khaw (8/29/17) Deacon James, a rambling bluesman with a saxophone that now refuses to call up his audiences. It summons monstrosities from across different dimensions. According to a stranger named John Persons, Deacon has a seed in his head that could destroy the world if it grows. The music in Deacon’s head is growing stronger and he won’t be able to hold it back for much longer. This is actually the second book in this series but as far as I can tell you do not need to read the first book before reading this one. The first book; Hammers on Bone, follows John Persons which we’ll get into more a bit further down the list. He will make an appearance in this book but I am not sure how much of a role he’ll play. What made this one a must read for me was the description makes it sound really good and I like reading books where music is some form of magic.
--The Adventures of Super Girl by Faith Erin Hicks (6/27/17) “What if you can leap tall buildings and defeat alien monsters with your bare hands, but you buy your capes at secondhand stores and have a weakness for kittens?” The everyday tales of a super girl as she saves people, as she updates her family on how she is doing, and as she tries to keep a part-time job but forgets to remove her mask before work. With an arch-nemesis who’s only superpower is letting our hero know she is doing the superhero thing wrong. This particular version of this graphic novel is a expanded edition. It was originally printed in 2013 but has been reprinted a few times since. This edition will include two new stories and new art. I have never read it before but I really wanna give it a try.
--The Alchemist of Loom (Loom Saga #1) by Elise Kova A society oppressed by the Dragon King when the Five Guild’s resistance fell. Ari lost everything when the Dragon King took over. Now she uses her gift for clockwork machinery to oppose the Dragon oppressors to the highest bidders of the underground organ market. Dragon Cvareh would prefer to see his sister take the throne from the Dragon King. To overthrow the King he seeks aid from the Alchemist Guild and Ari will be the one to take him there. For a price. A wish of her greatest desire. Particularly drawn to this title because dragons. Not sure yet if they are people just called dragons or if they can turn into them. And it sounds a little steampunk. I’m curious as to what kind of clockwork machinery Ari can do.
--Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire Children always disappear. They slip through shadows under the bed, fall down rabbit holes, and into old wells into magical lands. At least until the magical land no longer needs you. Nancy disappeared once. And now she is back at Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children. Every child there longs to find a way back into their fantasy world. But with Nancy’s return things start to change. There’s more darkness than before and it is up to Nancy and her friends to find out is going on and to stop it. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of what happens to the hero after the battle is over. When the world no longer needs saving. It has become a trend lately among anime, manga, graphic novels, and books lately. But it remains an interesting idea to pursue. I haven’t read very many books that follow this idea but I have found that it feels a little lacking in some areas. I get the feeling that I’ve missed something along the way. Like jumping into the middle of a long running series. But this children’s (?) novel sounds like it will do a better job since there is a new problem to handle after the fact.
--The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin “This is the way the worlds ends...for the last time. A season of endings has begun. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world’s sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no return.” It was the description. Pure and simple. I’m really intrigued and would like to see what happens.
--Hammers on Bone (Persons Non Grata #1) by Cassandra Khaw Private investigator John Persons is a being ancient and magical being. He has been hired by a ten-year-old boy to murder the boys stepdad. The stepdad in question is an abusive and abominable monster. No problem for a monster killer like Persons. Except it isn’t just social evils the stepdad is carrying. He hosts an alien presence and is spreading it everywhere he goes. Persons has to stop him without releasing his own horrifying potential. I heard about the sequel (A Song for Quiet) before I heard about this one. I do like the sound of this one but I think I am more excited for the second book.
--The Management Style of the Supreme Being by Tom Holt (6/20/17) The Supreme Being and his son decide that they no longer wish to be supreme. So they decide to sell. Our new owners; the Venturi Brothers, have a few ideas how the world should really run. They don’t care for Good and Evil and decide to rid the world of right and wrong. But one of the old gods didn’t want to move out and he needs to know if you’ve been naughty or nice. I was first drawn to the title and I like the idea behind it. That our universe is more or less run like a company and can be sold. Not really sure how Santa will play into or why. Especially considering that this comes out in June. Unless this is for the paperback edition. Which I forgot to check when I looked this book up. But it still sounds good.
--Mechanica (Mechanica #1) by Betsy Cornwell Nicolette’s stepsisters have nicknamed her ‘Mechanica’. But a name chosen to insult her, fits Nicolette quite well. Her mother was an inventor until she passed away. One day Nicolette finds a secret workshop in her house and starts to imagine that she might be able to build herself a better life with the help of a mechanical menagerie and a tiny metal horse. The upcoming royal ball may just be the place to make her escape. She may even find her prince there but what if she doesn’t want a fairy tale happy ending after all? A retelling of Cinderella. What sold me here was that Nicolette might not have a traditional fairy tale ending. That you don’t always need a prince to make it happen. Whether or not that will be the case, we’ll just have to wait and see.
--More of Me by Kathryn Evans To the world Teva appears to be a normal teenage. But she holds a secret. Because of a genetic abnormality, Teva unwillingly clones herself every year on her birthday. The former Teva is then stuck at home, forced to give up her life. Forced to lose friends and boyfriends. And each year home becomes more and more like a battleground. Soon this Teva will be forced to give up her life as well. Desperate to hang on to her life, Teva starts to find out more about her past in order to set herself free. What really drew me to this book is each time I read the description I am reminded of Doctor Who. Of the line, “I can still die. If I’m killed before regeneration, then I’m dead. Even then, if I change, it feels like dying. Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away...and I’m dead.” Except for in More of Me, Teva gets to watch as a new; slightly older, version of herself takes over.
--Ollie’s Odyssey by William Joyce To become a child’s favorite is the highest honor a toy can achieve. Billy’s favorite is a bear with rabbit ears named Ollie who was made by Billy’s mother. But not all is happy within the world of toys. Zozo, a toy clown who was never chosen by a child seeks to capture all the favorite toys until they are forgotten by their children. Ollie is taken by Zozo when he was accidentally left under a table by Billy. It is up to Billy to sneak into Zozo’s lair to rescue Ollie and all the other favorites. I first picked this up because I thought it was a children’s graphic novel; it is not. But the story sounded really good so I bought it. I haven’t read it yet.
--The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente Six interconnected stories about female superheroes, wives of superhero’s, and girlfriends of superhero’s. How they have been abused, killed, brainwashed, and generally used to progress a male superheroes story.
--Renegades by Marissa Meyer (11/7/17) The Renegades are a group of super powered prodigies who helped establish peach and order to a crumbled society. They are a symbol of hope and justice. Except to those that they overthrew. Nova hates the Renegades and wants vengeance for what they’ve done. I really enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s Cinder Chronicles and am interested in trying out something new by her.
--The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. by Neal Stephenson A linguistic helps translate some mysterious documents for a shadowy government agent. The documents provide clues that magic once existed on Earth but the scientific revolution and Age of Enlightenment weakened it; if not wiped it out completely. Now they will try to bring it back into the modern world. When I first read the description I immediately thought of Arrival (which is a really good movie). I’m curious to read just how scientific advancement affect the flow of magic and how they might be able to be used in tandem together.
--Strange Attractors by Charles Soule and illustrated by Greg Scott (6/20/17) Dr. Spencer Drownfield claims to have saved New York City from itself in 1978. Ever since he has been tinkering with the people of New York to keep the city afloat. A young mathematician is chosen as his successor. Is there truth to Dr. Spencer’s claims about how the Butterfly Affect and his complexity math applies to the city’s patterns. Or is it simply the raving of a broken man as he tries to make sense of the world around him. I like the idea of a person secretly ‘tinkering’ with people in order to save his city. And at first I thought it would be done on a real power but now I am not so sure. It may end up being more on a reflection of how we interact with the world and try to understand our place in it. Either way, the story sounds good.
--Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein “Valentine Michael Smith is a human being raised on Mars, newly returned to Earth. Among his people for the first time, he struggles to understand the social morals and prejudices of human nature that are so alien to him, while teaching them his own fundamental beliefs in grokking, watersharing, and love. I’m not sure on the setup here. If it’s a human who grew up on a Mars inhabited by Martians or if he grew up on a Mars populated by humans. My guess is going to go more toward the first option. I really like the idea of this kind of culture crash.
--That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E.K. Johnston (10/3/17) Set in a world where the United States never existed. Victoria-Margaret is the crown princess and direct descendant of Victoria I. Margaret will soon be married due to an genetically arranged matchmaking due to imperial law. Before her marriage, she will have one summer to spend incognito in the far reaches of her empire. There she will meet Helena Marcus, daughter of the empire’s greatest placement geneticists. And August Callaghan, the heir of a powerful shipping firm currently being attacked by American pirates. Together they share an usually bond and will find a way to change the world and get what they want.
--The Waking Land by Callie Bates (6/27/17) Lady Elanna Valtai is fiercely devoted to her King who raised her like a daughter. But when he mysteriously dies, Elanna is accused of murdering him and must flee to her homeland full of magical legends. And to her birth father who was branded a traitor. Now she must confront the powers that have stirred within her and seem to grow as she connects to the natural world. Now Elanna must stop the threat that has chased her to her homeland and rebel against the kingdom she once called home. It reminds me of Uprooted by Naomi Novik and I really enjoyed that book.

Just going through one of my very long writing mood playlists.
The Promise of Living (or Zion's Walls. It's the same tune, different lyrics.) just screams Ben. The melody itself and the lyrics, though Zion's Walls lyrics reflect the religious aspect of Ben.
Anyway, enjoy it because it's been an earworm.
"The promise of living with hope and thanksgiving is born of our loving our friends and our labor."
"For many a year we’ve known these fields and known all the work that makes them yield. Are you ready to lend a hand? We’ll bring in the harvest, the blessings of harvest."

As we get closer to the final round of the Music of TURN, I just want to say thank you to everyone for tuning in and participating. This was a VERY long bracket but I learned a lot from it and I hope you took a few things away from it. New thematic concepts of our beloved show, or just a new appreciation of how the score and visual media work off of each other.
Once things calm down (We are playing Mahler 2 Resurrection Symphony this Thursday and I have so many extra rehearsals) I can finish up some longer posts. Tallmadge in 1812, some unknown facts about Caleb, a master post on Mary Floyd.
